New player leaving because of HoT. The irony.

loud minority
playing since beta, and i’m happy
Who is the minority??
What is this supposed to prove? I’ve seen the video and haven’t up- or downvoted it. I never do.
Besides, this community’s loud minority is prone to hypes (negative and positive). This just happens to be the negative kind of mass hysteria.
This is bad satire. The point of the complaints is that vets deserve more for being vets. An inversion doesn’t work because there’s no reasoning at all for noobs deserving more for being noobs.
1/10 trollin aint as easy as you think.
So it’s not what people claimed that veterans want the same as newcomers? We actually think we deserve more? Wow… Actually i don’t think that way. Don’t generalize.
Hahaha. Pretty well written.
You’re not buying the core game twice.
Who wouldn’t want to have BOB?
I was going to link my build idea that i had when i read the balance change notes, then i realized frifoxy posted the same as “reflect”.
Welcome! Be sure to explore all those starter areas, especially Queensdale. They’re all worth exploring carefully and not just rushing through.
Have fun in game.
You just met the people who are so up in arms at the moment that if an ant headed towards them, they’d nuke it from orbit.
Best comment in ages. Made me laugh out loud in office, luckily nobody was around.
That expansion also didn’t come with new professions.
People are talking about Factions (released 2 slots for Ritualist and Assassin) and Nightfall (2 slots for Paragon and Dervish).
Whilst this is an expansion, it’s releasing a new profession, the basic $50 version should come with at least 1 new slot as part of the package. It would fall in line with their previous way of releasing slots with the introduction of new profession/s. Regardless of if it’s a expansion or standalone.
But those were not expansions, those were Stand Alone campaigns, they came with character slots for people with both. Eye of the North the only expansion didn’t come with slots.
- In hindsight, they are called stand alone games because Anet later released EotN. They were very much billed as expansions at launch, and EotN required extra explanation in it’s marketing to go on about how it wasn’t stand alone like the other expansions. It was also cheaper than those games. We have to pay essentially the same price as base game at launch to now get 3 zones and no character slots. Which leads to my next point.
- technically we are buying the base game again in addition to the expansion, which makes the comparison to the original class adding GW1 exspansions even more relevant since you still got some character slots for adding the stand alone expansions to your account. As it stands now, we are buying a 2nd account, and then having anet just throw it in the garbage for us. Giving us a measly 1 charecter slot from am entire account’s worth seems the least they could do.
- If Anet even briefly glanced at their forums, which we know they do from the red posts, then they know the general assumption was 1 expansion slot for the expansion. The fact they did this without explanation is proof they know they are being kittens. I mean, how much does a new character slot even cost them to provide? They could have just included it in the price and not said anything and we would have been happy, but they had to rub in our faces that they are not giving us even a single free character slot.
- None of this changes the fact that they lost out on 3 ultimate edition sales just in this short topic, and who knows how many more from the vast majority of players who silently logged off to not return, all because they insist on nickel and dimeing us. I can’t believe I’m they only one who is going to avoid buying gems with money until Anet makes this right.
So go ahead and nitpick about semantics to justify this terrible move on Anet’s part, but if this is the path they will be taking in the future…It has been a good 10 years, but I just don’t know…
I don’t care what people say or think factions and the others were, they are stand alone games which didn’t require you to have the original. There for are not expansions. Simple. You are trying to murky the waters to prove your point.
Objectively wrong. They expanded on the guild wars title as a whole, and are there for expansions. Regardless if they are stand alone or not, they expanded the world of tyria and are GENUINELY expansions.
How is that objectively wrong? When someone says “expansion”, people dont automatically assume it’s a seperate game on it’s own that you can choose to join to another game. that is why we are clearing up the details. Call them an expansion but that doesn’t make you right. You are still wrong. If you are going to throw two very different things under the same name and get angry that Anet doesn’t treat them the same you are an idiot.
You aren’t clearing up ANY details. You’re arguing semantics over campaign or expansion. I’m actually very much so, NOT wrong, because the titles: Guild Wars: Factions and Guild Wars: Nightfall, AND Guild Wars: Eye of the North, all REALLY DID expand the title, which one would assume, labels them as, you guessed it, expansions.
So every item in the GW1 store (costumes, etc) was also an expansion because they expanded the title.
You should not be disappointed with the community. This is exactly the reaction that this community would give to anything. (Based on previous reactions and many of the “veterans” being entitled like there’s no tomorrow)
It’s been 5%.
Also, you don’t need to craft ascended armor for all your characters at all. Ascended is account bound after all. Now, if you really want to have different sets, that’s another story, but the way the game throws ascended chests at you, that cannot be a problem.

I think the argument is that this ‘expansion’ is nowhere near worth 50 dollars and I will not be buying it.
Also, the ridiculous white-knighting by two users in this thread makes my day. Whole bullpen at the bank heard me laugh thanks to you, boys.
I think the argument here is actually not that because the thread is titled “49.99 to rebuy the core game?”.
I’m glad you had a good laugh because everybody needs one every now and again.

Because THIS IS THE EXPANSION PRICE. Live with it. You don’t pay more for the Core game. But reading is hard, I know.
This isn’t a matter of “this is the price” or not. It’s a matter of doing it in a way that doesn’t result in kittenstorms on the internet. ANet is notoriously bad at that.
It’s a matter of perception. I know that perception is very subjective but as I said, manipulating and predicting percetion is part of the job ANet should be doing.
In this case, the perception is that :
- I’m a veteran player, I paid I don’t know how much for the game and currently you can get it for as low as $20 if you do it smartly. I can let that slide since everything lowers in price over time
- The expansion comes out and costs me $50
- The expansion has one of the major features be a new class and it’ll cost me $10 more to play it cause … my char slots are maxed for some strange reasonSo, as a veteran, I feel like I’ll have after the HoT purchase spent $80 to get the game, while new players will have spent $50 for more or less the same value. Yes I know it’s not the same thing, those $80 gave me one extra char slot etc… But it’s perception. And the perception currently is that I’ll have to spend $30 more than new players to enjoy HoT.
This is too much plain and simple. Hence the complaints. What ANet should have done is throw us virtual bones that are more or less worthless but shift the value perception to a point where nobody complains. The easiest would be to give a free chat slot to players that already own the core game. It’s shift the value perception by a whole $20 back.
New players will also have to drop $20 for Season 2 pack if they want to play through it and won’t be able to relive the living content that most of us veterans were able to play through. Also the core game is F R E E with the expansion. If you already own the core game it doesn’t effect your just paying for the expansion while the core game is F R E E for those you don’t have it, but y’know a SMALL amount of people will complain when they don’t get something free.
You just don’t get it. To current players, they are paying $50 for the expansion; and new players are paying $50 for the expansion and the free core game. Why such disparity exists is beyond me.
It doesn’t matter the core is free or not; it certainly isn’t free for us and we’re paying the same price as the new players and getting half of the package.
No, you don’t get it. Everyone is still paying $50 dollars for the expansion.
No. You don’t. Current players are paying $50 for the expansion and new players are paying $50 for the expansion and the core game.
There is a difference.
You’re not paying for the core game and neither are new players. It is offered as freebie while everyone still needs to pay $50 for the expansion.
Where can I, as a current player, claim this said freebie?
You don’t need it to access the expansion, you already have access to the core game.
You spelled every dragon wrong except for Jormag. Just saying.

Europeans pay more because you have VAT.
No, that’s not the reason. Us europeans have different VAT in different countries, yet we pay the same.
Thats because what companies generally do is register a european hq and charge vat based on the location where the company reside. I do believe the EU is trying to change that.
That already changed from the 1st of January this year.
No, you’re paying twice for the core game if you own GW2 already. You won’t get an extra code.
No. You do not pay twice for the core game. The expansion would be priced at that either way. You can argue about how this is a bad idea but at least stop spreading nonsense.
You do not buy a core game… If you already have it, you get the expansion added to your account.

How do you put a price tag on it?
It’s not a loaf of bread after all. And i never really understood all the comparison posts either. The game had this many zones, races, classes upon launch so the expansion has to have this or that many so the price is warranted?
If you measure content based on such things, you should really stop playing video games and get another hobby.
You’re not forced to buy another game. The expansion code simply gives access to the core game as well as the expansion. So if you already have access to the core game, it will provide you with access to the expansion, if you don’t have the core game it will provide access to BOTH.
Seriously the lack of comprehension is rampant today.
I love it, the rage posts have driven everything else from the first page on the general discussion and HoT subforums.
Can’t wait until it gets merged into one behemoth thread.
The rage must flow! Keep it coming.
Oh, okay.
Good luck.

Considering the time i spent and intend to spend in this game, i think the standard package price is not too much. But of course feel free to flip out and take the pitchforks/torches and storm the Anet HQ.
That new people get the core game along with the expansion? It’s been priced at 10 euros several times before, we paid 60 at start, why should people who started 2 years later get it for a sixth of that? Right? No. Nobody complained then. Honestly, i don’t care if they include it here, offering packages like that is common practice with a lot things, not just software.
That they don’t give a char slot along with the standard pack? Yeah, i expected a char slot for free too. Quite honestly though, i’m aiming for the deluxe or the ultimate anyway.
The biggest issues seem to be these two, no free char slot and that new players get access to the core game (or they pay 10 euro/$ less for the expansion if you’d like to look at it that way).
I’m not really upset about that though. I got into GW1 relatively late due to some sales, if not for the sales, i might not have started playing… I paid a lot less than those who started back 2005, i also MISSED years and years of playing the game. Similarly here, i have spent a lot of time in GW2 since launch, i’ve met a lot of friendly people in the game, that was worth my originally spent money.
Pink Portal Fairy.
Guild name – Portals Are [PINK]
Second time I’ve been blessed to witness this miracle of a norn. Amazing character design.
And he still fails to accept that portals are purple. Also… “amazing” is not the first thing that comes to mind. Nightmare inducing more likely.
Eir is the last of her guild that i would like to see dead. Actually i would not like to see her dead. Whereas Caithe, Rytlock, Zojja, Logan can go (in that order).
There are three reasons why dungeon groups kick people before they can even say “hi”:
1) they stated which class they need, you joined on a class they did not need
2) they stated how many APs you should have, you did not have enough
3) they found someone – a friend or guildie – before they could take the lfg off
Other kicks include, but are not limited to:
1) not pinging the right gear when they ask you to
2) if they ask if you could run a specific build and you don’t want to or ask “what is that?”
3) they speak another language and don’t want the hassle of communication problems
It’s not a drawback… It’s bad design. I suspect the devs ran out of ideas where to put the Protected Phantasms trait and so they smacked it in the same tier as Warden’s Feedback.
The new mimic will be worth extensive testing. It reminds me of good old arcane echo from gw1.
I agree with the first point. The 1s distortion is (can be) a game changer for that phantasm. AoE will kill the warden before it can start to spin.
Maybe the developers can consider this.
I’m not sure why you are disappointed. The changes look solid, at least on paper (in the post).
While people bring up how Arah is a shining example why skipping is intended… Arah is a really bad design exactly because of the overabundant skipping.
Instead of implementing dumb skips, why can’t we have more encounters? I don’t want to kill every last monster in a dungeon, don’t get me wrong. Yet i find that it’s just another artificial and lazy mechanic. I would prefer two additional boss fights with great mechanics in any dungeon in place of the skipping.
ascended armor are purposely designed ugly so that ANET can sell armor skin and outfit in Black Lion TP.
same for ascended weapons.
I’ll have you know that ascended weapons look amazing. Like grandma’s kitchen equipment.
Oh and pvp reward tracks are a steady and reliable source of charges too.
That’s just how things are.
Outfits require no charge for equipping and there are no weight restrictions, can be used on any class. You cannot mix and match these (that is the disadvantage).
Armor sets on the other hand can be mixed and matched and since each skin is applied to a specific piece, you need to pay charges each time you want to change.
What a wonderful idea!
Good day. May i ask if we’ll ever get these animations back?
Thank You.
Because the heart of the mists is not destroyed, it’s not even a “place”, it’s in the mists of course. The ironic part is that we asked for a solution to people joining games in the last moment and this solves that problem perfectly. We should have thought that through better.
Whoever goes afk at 494 deserves to lose. All you had to do was to run to one point, cap it or score two kills. Could have been done easily. Sorry you had such a bad team but that’s just how it is.
Great idea, deserves to be implemented! +1
I prefer the Order of Whispers generally but while meant to be a funny character, Tybalt tends to almost reach Jar-Jar Binks in goofiness and forced “humor”. Based on that, i’d pick the Priory.
The mossman stealth insta-gouge happened yesterday with a party of five, making two pugs quit because we did not want to bug him underwater. We did get two new people and beat him on first try after that… But yeah the stealth instagib is a bit annoying but i guess mossman just acts like any thief in pvp.
in theory it works but in practice it doesn’t. especially not with the low amount of pvp players currently.
Which is ironic, because i know that me and a lot of people i know pvp’d regularly before this exact change. Not anymore.
The whole pvp change back in december looked really good in theory and then it went live and it was bad and is still bad.
As bad as it was sometimes, solo queue was still better than this what we have now.
Yes, GW1 dances should be brought back. Perhaps as some kind of “relic from the past”, a newly discovered tome containing dance moves of ages past. Could have been found during the restoration of LA.
You might want to check out your targeting and controls and builds and how to play and so on….
1. Legendary Imbued Shaman with people who know what to do there and how.
2. Molten Duo.
3. Mai Trin minus the cannon phase.
A snip at a mere 2,411g! Perfect for the 1%ers with all that gold lying around I’m sure.
I know, lol!
Over £200 for a few hairstyles.
That’s over a year and a half of WoW subs and that is assuming you don’t spend any more real life money, on anything else, in that timeframe.
Which most people, who would spend that on hairstyles, undoubtedly would do…
I’m not cheap – I think anything up to about £240 a year (on average), for a decent game, would be fair.
But, when you have a single item at virtually that price, it’s just too much.
It’s not just “a few hairstyles”, it’s more of a QoL thing and it qualifies perfectly as a long-term goal similar to legendaries. It’s also worth every single copper.
