they are actually quite powerful as long as you don’t stay within condition skills only, i use blood fiend and flesh golem while having 3 wells.
the problem is that ppl focus way to much on speed cleans, as if they rather rush trough it instead of enjoying the game.
are they in a hurry, are the rewards lessened after a period of time?

They have been patching on the same time for over a year. You may expect them to launch on that same time..

No they haven’t.

They have never been on the same time actually.
The same general area of time, yes, but the exact same time? Nope. I don’t even think two patches have ever been released at the exact same time.

And to be fair they did tell us back during the “usual” release-time that it would be delayed.

for almost 9 years they release the big patches on exactly 12:01 PM, it’s bin like that in GW1 and has always bin even in GW2.
even with a delay, they never pass the 2 hour delay.
ether they took a break or are losing the will to push this life, shows how much their quality has dropped.

Hey all, we are doing some additional preparations for the build, it will be live in the afternoon (Seattle Time). So get your LA screenshots in while you can and face off against the Marionette one more time!

It is 2:58 PM Feb 18th in Seattle as of the time of my post.

EST……..Seattle is way off that time
also, every single patch is 6 hours extra in CET, so that’s -5 EST.
keep up for ones…

There are numerous ways to get 25%-33% speed buff. There are numerous waypoints that are very cheap spread across all of the maps. Mounts are therefore useless and just screen clutter.

i find waypoints a cheap excuse to argue against mounts, they are the pin point to show why we should have mounts.
immerse your self in a world while using waypoints, thumbs up if you can even do that for a millisecond.

The OP has an excellent point. The open world is dead empty. Why? because there is nothing to be made from it and there is no reason to return it once you have done all the hearts. This is a problem. When the open world is empty, that is very strong evidence something was not done right.

simple, the moment they decided to completely ignore quests is the moment they alienate whole continents of the game, add quests and the world starts to become more active with players.
sadly most players see quests as a bad idea, all they see is the linear kind while never even thinking of the new and improved models.
why do you think most other active MMO’s are filled with players, because they have quests to do….

a proper dev team releases stuff like this on 12:01PM EST, it works perfectly and is a really good central time to work with.
saying “oh, just around 9AM and 5PM” is like saying “you only need to pay about $100 or $20.000”, be more specific.

would you like it if you made a guild hall and all of a sudden you see tons of ppl walking in your hall who are not even a member?
i seriously doubt it.

The Vigil is an order whose main purpose is to help the helpless, so it makes sense that it will be a temporary hub until things settle down.

true but the keep isn’t exactly easy to reach, if what is said is true then even more questions arise.
like, where do all the portals come from (from main cities to the keep), how can they set things up so fast, why is my bank still accessible when everything is destroyed in LA, how do they fit all that in a small keep (because let’s be frank, the keep is maybe just 1/8 of LA) and so forth….
i’m not trying to derail anything, i just try to make sense of something i see no sense in.
divinity’s reach is far superior to a new hub and already exist, not to mention what you already have available just as what LA has and is beginner/low level friendly.

By the way, did anyone notice skill system in ESO?
I mention it because a)It has more skill variety than GW2 and b)it is more similar to GW1 than GW2 is. I find it peculiar

in GW1 you can have about 20 skills within a few minutes, in ESO it takes hours before you finally get to 5 skills……..hardly similar….

1.) the human is the most created race of all 5 races (and i have a survey to prove it)
2.) everything is easy to reach
3.) there is a big enough place to gather around
4.) it’s reachable for every level
the vigil has a keep deep in a lvl 30 area so it’s unreachable for anyone lower, it’s also not much of a hub since it’s not in a city instance.

It doesn’t matter, what you want. It matters what Anet makes most money out of. Face it, they didn’t make GW2 to make you happy, they made to make money. It just doesn’t make sense to give you 5 sets for the price of 1, if they have enough people actually paying for 5 sets -shrugs-

then why is the exchange even in GW2 if all they want is get money from players?

ESO is far away from being able to compete to GW2. They are doing some things right but so many other things wrong, it is at best on par with gw2, but then there is something called monthly fee that makes it far far under par.

ESO is not even close to GW2. Have you played it? The combat is so bad.

I played two beta weekends and now that the NDA has been lifted I can honestly say….

I had more fun playing over this last beta weekend than I have over the MONTHS that I’ve played this game. Combat was fun to me, and way more action-packed than this game’s combat model.

I, for one, will happily be paying a sub again once this game comes out.

ESO gives you the freedom of skills of GW1 combined with a whole new world to explore.

It is probably more a successor to GW1 than gw2 is.

Wooaahh slow down.. Lets not get ahead of ourselves bud.

I understand you are fond of ESO and while that’s great I think you are getting a lil crazy with that last line. I’ve been in ESO beta since September and it is nothing like gw1.

ESO is bad IMO but Gw2 is boring these days too.

true, GW1 never had a successor and (till now) never will, it’s a unique game that can only be succeeded by it’s own expansions. (if only they continued on with GW1, love to pay for more DLC’s and love to see improvements made to equalize things)

if you have 3 skills per weapon skill slot to choose from it makes building a build allot more fun and interesting, one of the reasons why i pretty much left GW2 is because playing 1 or 2 the same builds is getting boring.
what i love about the original GW is that in GW you can experiment with builds, make weird combinations and at times it even works. (like a N/A that uses dagger skills, it’s actually fun to do that )
if Anet does make us choose skills on a weapon it would be a really good reason to return to the game and try new builds for a change.

Stop rewarding so much gold just for playing the game. There are a billion currencies; pick another one (how about laurels?). Bound items (you know, actual physical rewards?) are also things.

If selling gems earned a lot more gold and rewards were reworked away from injecting sacks of gold into everyone’s wallets we would have a more rational gem market, balanced economy and rewarding ecosystem.

I generally disagree with this sentiment. Even for obtaining 6g per 100 gems right now from selling gems, that’s 48g for 10 bucks, which for many people in this day and age is one hour of work or far less than that for people with higher paying jobs. Compare this to the number of hours of focused grinding you’d need to get 48g in-game, which is about 6 assuming a maximized 8g/hr rate from champ trains. 1 hour of real work or 6 hours of in-game work. For a lot of people, the appropriate course of action for them is crystal clear.

I think the values are in a good place right now given the amount of time it takes to earn the equivalent value of gold for those gems.

Sure if you don’t have to consider food, paying your house mortgage/rent, paying up your car, paying for your children’s education, paying your ISP, taxes, etc. That $10/hour becomes much lower now, so not too crystal clear to me.

i tried to make that clear many times, way to many ppl are to young to realize all that….or are in debt to prove their irresponsibility.

The line of assumptions are long here. I make good money (computer programmer), I have a family to support and a finite amount of TIME to play. Discretionary income is strong enough to buy gems from time to time and as I have posted on other threads, I have spent somewhere around $700 in the last year on the game.

For myself, who is not a kid and is not irresponsible with my finances, it makes a whole lot of sense to use my game time as efficiently as possible so I have more time with my family and other responsibilities. For those that are cash poor and time rich, maybe it makes more sense to farm but for me and many others like me, it simply doesn’t make sense.

The thing that kind of irks me is that people take an attitude towards those that can afford to buy gems (or choose to should that be the delimiter in deciding to buy or grind), no one HAS to buy gems. ANet has a vested interest in making money so the exchange rate favors the conversion FROM gems, not to gems. This is a simple thing, it’s about profit and nothing to do with game play.

you know, the problem is that you make the exact same mistake as allot of other ppl, you assume there are only 2 kinds of player.

  • players who are poor but have plenty of time
  • players who don’t have much time but have plenty of cash to burn

what you (and many others) fail to realize is that there is a 3rd kind, the kind that is poor and barely has time to play games.
answer me this since you’re sooo smart, how do you solve that problem huh?

First of all this mmo is made for the casual gamer, lets be honest now. How hard is it to level up to 80? easy as taking a kitten. Quests on the fly(hearts), events every minute, crafting experience, WvW karma trains, brainless AI. These all lead to quick leveling.

using trains as an excuse is a poor one, calling this game filled with grind and gear discrimination a casual game is a huge mistake.
i call this more a hardcore gear job rather then a casual game, i want to have fun not work to have a chance on a dungeon group without someone whining about what my character wears….

People forget that GW2 is 250 years after GW1…………… I do not see how old lore could make it back into GW2 from GW1…..

If you want Guild Wars 1 lore, you are playing the wrong game. Guild Wars 2 is 250 years in the future, so things are forgotten.

sure, tell that to the humans and the charr, let’s see how much they “forgot” about the hundreds of years of war between them….

Lets look at real life…. do you really care what happened 250 years ago?

without your 250 years ago stuff, you would not know america as it is now…there was only europe, asia and everything in between.

anyway, destroying LA completely would destroy everything that still makes this game guild wars, it’s like cutting a life line……you cut it and you’ll kill it…

staying nice and having an insight of strategy is better then shouting commands and belittling the ones who don’t listen, you don’t have to hold hands but a nice attitude is half the success.

Where does Scarlet get her resources?

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: sorudo.9054

sorudo.9054

I think 4chan’s own Guild Wars 2 general put it: the most kitten ingly frustrating thing about Scarlet is not even her infinite resources, it’s how she brings everyone together.

In the personal story, our characters struggle to get all of the good guys, who do share a single goal, to work together. We beg, we plead, we threaten, we outright beat some sense into some, and at last, they finally and reluctantly agree.

Meanwhile, Scarlet goes up to this nebulous collection of badguys, each with their own vastly differing goals and ideologies and says “join my club, all the cool kids are doing it” and BAM! she has an army with hundreds of different groups lining up to join her.

Thinking about it, Trahearne ended up sort of bringing all those people together too. So maybe sylvari produce a powerful, narcotic pollen that’s highly addictive and makes everyone throw themselves at sylvari to avoid getting the shakes.

Edit: Wait, so "kitten " is now censored too? Don’t they say harsher things in the game itself?

Makes me think of those Stargate Atlantis episodes with the guy who uses a “love potion” so everyone thinks he’s the coolest dude around. Maybe Scarlet just wants to be friends?

but what if you have a cold?

RNG and Grind in GW2 is not that bad

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Just because some games have even worse designers doesn’t make the rng and grind in gw2 acceptable…. It just means it’s not the worst contender. Also GW2 is aimed for a us/eu audience, the audiences who least enjoy long terrible grinds.

Name one MMORPG that has better RNG and grind?

hard to say “better grind” because i find grind in general bad, if you mean less grind then i might know a few.
SWToR is one, the reason being that you’ll enjoy the game while questing so it’s difficult to notice the grind, RNG always has some guaranteed stuff so that’s another.
the original GW has allot less grind, you can get max level within a day if you want to and getting materials is quite easy, it just takes a bit of time.

sorudo.9054

Just a quick note, at $15US you can convert for 6.40 gold per 100 gems, 1200 gems, about 77 gold. (76.8 to be exact) ($)15 (cost) into 77 gold is approximately 5.12 gold per dollar spent. About 19 cents of real currency per gold in game. This is incredibly cheap when you consider the time necessary to earn a gold by farming or doing champ/dungeons. If folks have gems, it seems like the ratio is at peak, I converted 3700 gems last night when the rate was just a touch higher but personally I don’t think it can sustain this level of exchange since gem prices haven’t increased. This is, of course, theoretical but I think it has maxxed out….

i bolded a part of this to show the flaw, try and think about regular play without any of that.
no dungeons, no champs and no farming, let’s see how far you get.

Not sure of your point….I just selected what the majority of people do to earn gold and compared it to the time cost, not potential earnings. If you aren’t doing any of what I outlined as common routines by players, what exactly are you doing? WvW? Just slaying monsters? What is the flaw?

hahaha, you don’t even realize it and you made another.
the term “majority of players” on a forum is as empty as space, what you think is majority doesn’t have to be the majority, it is just the part that screams the loudest.

in case you’re wondering, i do exploration, play the LS, do DE’s, RP at times.
i don’t need a 30+ group to enjoy a game or max gear to show how great i am, just my skill in playing a game and taking my sweet time is all i need as long as i don’t get trains ruining it.

Here is why Guild Wars 2 needs Mounts

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: sorudo.9054

sorudo.9054

there is no argument, are you blind?
i would like to travel in a more immersive way, quick travel is way to cheap a way and running everywhere makes the game all that more boring.

Could you please explain to me how having mounts would be more immersive? Norn, Charr, Sylari, Asura, Human. Of the five character Races only Human reasonably would use mounts and within storyline even they don’t.

You do remember that this is a sequel to Guild Wars right? Now I didn’t play all the way thru GW1 but I don’t remember anything even remotely like mounts in use even by NPC’s.

So explain how all of a sudden with no historical basis within storyline all five races would suddenly evolve mounts?

Edit: now if they did I could see stables where you buy a mount but mounted you lost most of the effects of armor, couldn’t fight/defend yourself until you dismounted, then had to keep your mount healthy or face the cost (high) of replacing it.

so the tanks in the Black Citadel are not part of the lore, not even remotely resembling a mount in the slightest?
or what about the asura golems, they are not mounts but robots you happen to be able to ride?
i agree that they are extreme example but it makes a point, mounts already are in GW, both in lore and in the world.

remove LA, remove the reason on calling this game GW2.

think of a few…..

Past lore isn’t/shouldn’t be removed by events. It isn’t like cause WWII happened WWI didn’t.

there are still plenty of traces of WW1 even now, GW2 is pretty much losing all traces of GW.
it’s as if Anet wants nothing to do with the original GW so they destroy every single piece of history GW has, even if it means to destroy the very last connection of GW to GW2.

so in the end, we even lose LA, the only single place that let’s this game call it self guild wars.
when LA is gone, so is the whole reason on calling this guild wars, let’s start thinking of a more fitting name for this game because this becomes ridicules.

Go to the southeast of Brisbane Wilderness, listen to lore.

oh, so we have quarrer falls and hedge of denravi there?
really, lore can only go so far, devs can simple make an event to change the lore in a heartbeat.
you need locations of old, known places with known names.
for now, the only place in GW2 that is still GW is LA, remove LA and there is no GW.

that’s the magic of bad writing, make up a story that only makes sense on it’s own and copy/paste them one after the other.

Zerg Fest?

I would definitely like to see some more strategy in this, though perhaps on a smaller so (so, say, groups of 10-20 maybe could do it). Eg, one group holds a barricade while another has to move canons into position or something.

How would this work when you can only form parties of 5? Interesting idea but I doubt this is what is going to happen.

zerging isn’t playing with other players, it’s chasing a big group just to farm loot.
also, playing in an open world can be done without a zerg fest, 20 ppl in the entire instance is plenty and can be scattered to take down the enemies.

While you are right about the open world and playing without a zerg, I have to ask if this is reasonable? What I mean by that is do you really think player won’t zerg if it’s a possibility?

Unless the city is somehow sectioned off into lanes or some other similar idea I don’t see how this won’t be a zerg, even if it’s not intended as such.

that’s not really why i quoted him, he pretty much said that when you don’t zerg you’re not playing an MMO right.
