An idea for legendary armor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

steveway.3167

I was thinking why don’t we tie the Legendary Armor into the OoW, DP, and Vigil. We could do a scavenger hunt to collect the gifts needed, then bring them to an NPC in our repective order to buy a set of Legendary Order armor.

What does everyone think? To make it more difficult we could even introduce a rank system that requires us to reach a certain rank to be able to buy from the NPC.

PROBLEM

According to this article, players will only have 4 fixed PvE dailies, and they will have to do at least 3 of them to get the daily reward. However, the problem is not with the amount, but with the requirements of new dailies:

  • Daily Ascalon Forager
  • Daily Maguuma Wastes Vista Viewer
  • Daily Malchor’s Leap Event Completer
  • Daily Fire Elemental

So from what I read in the article these are not “Fixed” dailies. The daily activities will change day to day. For example they mention a fractal daily and a defeat the shatterer daily. It seems more like the dailies will change as they do now. I suggest that everyone wait to see what dailies are actually given before anyone gets too upset over this.

From what i understand they will mail the skin to you if you win. I think I read this in the dialog from the skritt. Hope this helps

Halloween sPvP track availability

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: steveway.3167

steveway.3167

Actually, I think it MIGHT stay. After all, we already know that the Maize Balms were intentionally introduced so that PvE players could continue to farm ToT bags all year round. It thus makes sense that the reward track would stay so that PvP players can do the same.

Furthermore, there’s no indication on the Halloween track that says it’s going away, like the temporary dungeon/regional tracks.

Don’t take this as a guarantee, of course, but I think there’s a good argument for the Halloween track possible staying.

This is why I was hoping for an official reply.

From the release notes:

•A new PvP reward track has been added for the duration of the festival.

This would indicate it is temporary. Sorry.

That’s the problem with the non-union labor in LA, they can’t figure out if they have a tool in their hand or not.

I have managed to buy 5 Candy Corn on the Cobs, including 3 today. I went to the merchant to buy a Hex Outfit and it showed that I had none. The last 3 disappeared within half an hour of buying them as I got 1 from the bank plus 2 I thought I had. I have checked all my chars but there is no sign. Can’t see how anyone else has got into my account as I am the sole user. But I will change my password just in case.

did you perhaps use “deposit materials” and place them in the materials tab on the bank? They do not show up at the vendor if they are deposited.

Speculation About Fractal Update 2014

Lets speculate how Arena Net will update FOTM this year.

Will drops be finally fixed?
Will we be finally able to salvage/exchange our unwanted Ascended rings?
Will they add new mini dungeons this year?
Will we be finally able to go beyond scale 50?
Will FOTM finally become hardcore PvE end game?

It’s all uncertain, however we can be sure about one thing, the 2014 FOTM update will somehow be tied to the Living Story.

What makes you think there will be a fractal update?

I completely agree with this, why not do both?

Trading Post

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: steveway.3167

steveway.3167

I’m really confused. I just returned to Guild Wars 2 after not playing for 2 months or so.. And this new player experience is really confusing me.
I decided to buy a whole bunch of armor since mine was getting a bit weak for my level. I’ve purchased every piece I want but it says that the trade has to be accepted from the seller? I think that’s terrible, what if that seller doesn’t come online for a month or a year? When I buy things from the trading post, I want them n.o.w. If something is put on the trading post, it is because the seller wants to sell it, they shouldn’t have to confirm people’s purchases, I think this is ridiculous.
Is there any way to disable that feature? I really don’t know if I can keep playing the game if all these previously well working features are going to be made so complicated. It’s ruining the fun of the game.

I think you may have inadvertantly made an offer instead of purchasing at a preset price. When you tried to make a purchase you may have not realized that the option was set to buy price instead of lowest sell price. Did you click a “buy instantly” button or a “make offer” button? Did you notice? This was the same feature in the old tp but it defaulted to buy instantly. In the new TP it has been defaulting to make offer instead. I believe its a bug though.

do away with the exclusionary repping system, allow people to actively take part in all of their guilds.

just theorycrafting here: wouldn’t this completely destroy the concept of guild itself? if you are part of all guilds, may as well remove guilds at all and simply have merits/influence/whatever rain upon all players as they login…

Thats a little over stating it. Being part of 5 groups isn’t going to destroy the system. How many groups do you belong to in real life? Church, work, friends…. The list could go on. Don’t say its not the same thing either bc yes it is. A guild is a group of like minded people with a purpose.

This is precisely why I asked the question, “what would you want to gain from your primary guild?” It is an exercise in collaborative creativity to see if someone can come up with something that is actually compelling but at the same time doesn’t make you feel like you made the wrong choice. If the answer was easy, everyone would be doing it already, but most things worth doing are hard.

For me, the entire concept of having a ‘primary guild’ in a multi-guild system is the root of the problem, closely followed by the concept of ‘influence’.

Every part of the game has been designed in order to avoid the negative sides of general MMO’s; you don’t steal kills, you don’t steal harvesting nodes etc. But the influence system is the opposite and promotes the idea of “100% rep or boot”.

Any player that’s a member of a guild, but not representing it is ‘stealing’ influence from the guild and taking up a limited space that could be given to a member that is representing the guild. At all times, a player is wasting a spot in up to 4 other guilds, because they are representing the 5th.

I tend to represent a smaller guild that is mostly filled with members that don’t ever represent the guild and tend to play at different times. I can see that they are usually a few ‘members’ online, but I can’t communicate with them, and because all the interesting guild activities are gated behind representational influence. We can’t draw them back because we can’t unlock the interesting content that would draw them back because we need them to be representing in order to generate influence to unlock the content.

It’s not as simple as saying, "if they wanted to be in your guild they’d represent’, because they clearly ‘do’ want to be in the guild because they’ve used up one of thier limited spots to be there. They don’t represent because their influence pays them back better by being given to a larger guild that can do more.

It’s also not as simple as just making more content that smaller guilds can do, because that content is still going to be locked behind influence, and larger guilds will still be able to do more of the smaller guild content than smaller guilds could.

Essentially we’d have a very similar system by removing the ability to join multiple guilds, and instead letting players create groups in the friends list.

I agree somewhat. My guild has the same problem but if the “rep” feature is removed and all influence is split evenly between guilds then the problem would be resolved. Each person should have full access to all guilds they are in and the “rep” option could be kept as a title. That way a person could advertise any guild they are in while contributing and interacting with them all. Of course a guild chat would need to be available for each guild they were in too

I’m more upset about the fact there is no LS until November 4th. I hope there isn’t a break for Wintersday too. Why are we stopping our all important war with Mordy to fight a separate war in the mists then eat some Halloween candy? And how is SAB taking away from the story if we can do huge breaks like this?

Since the first part of the LS was 4 episodes, I would imagine this last part is also 4 episodes. That would put the finale on 12/16. I would think they would possibly start the wintersday activities either the next week (12/23) or the following week (12/30). Although starting on the 30th would be a late start. Regardless they shouldn’t need another break.

Mid-season break doesn’t mean it was necessarily in the middle of the season.

Granted it may not be exactly 4 more eps, but it would not be logical to have so many more you would need another break. Then it would just be a break not a mid season break. The term afterall denotes a point in the middle of the season (approximatly). I think at most there would be 5 more and at minimum 3. I guess we’ll just have to see in the next part.

So, this was the announcement from last year’s Halloween in 2013 Blood and Madness:

“The Blood and Madness content will be available from October 15 to November 11, including rewards and achievements.”

This was almost a solid month of good Halloween Content (My fav time of year, and I really enjoy the GW2 Halloween stuff. Some don’t, that’s ok too). Here’s the post about this year, however:

“Later in October, we’ll be bringing back our famous Halloween festivities! Blood and Madness will be returning to Guild Wars 2 on October 21 and remain active until the return of Season 2.
Last but certainly not least, Season 2 is returning on November 4! Make sure to log in and participate in the continuation of Living World Season 2.”

So, 2 weeks? If the Halloween Crafting is anything like last year, I would have to play GW2 as a 2nd job for those 2 weeks. That fact aside, I just think 2 weeks for Halloween content is kind of underwhelming. I enjoy the Living World Season 2 stuff (some don’t, and again, that’s ok too) but I am ok with pushing it back a couple more weeks for some fun, once-a-year content.

They’re probably shortening the Halloween event to fit LS pt 2 before wintersday.

If these issues were resolved by opening up a seperate channel for all guilds you are a member of, dividing all influence earned between each guild you are a member of and displaying the MOD and online members of each guild you are a member of, then it would not be a problem. In essance you would need full access to each guild you are in at all times to truly be in multiple guilds.

Quick comment – if you could switch between repping guilds without losing guild chat, dividing influence wouldn’t matter so much. If you wanted to go 50/50 you could switch over at will. I’m not sure how complex divvying up the influence would be to implement, but until then there’d be a workaround if we could have all /g channels displayed.

How would you handle the UI design. Specifically clutter?

Chris

As far as clutter for general features, it could be just a matter of clicking on the guild in the guild menu and displaying all the information avail to a repping member to every member. you would select the guild and it would display mod, online members, influence, upgrades etc as it does now to repping members. If you wanted to change to another guild then just clicking on the guild would give you access to that guilds info without clicking rep each time.

As far as clutter in the chat, each guild would have their own color to signify each channel like map/say now. Players would have the option of turning off specific channels as they do now. It does present the porblem of channels with alot of discussion hiding comments of other channels. This is already an issue though when say/map chat gets really going in some areas. We would alwasys have the same option of hiding specific channels like we do now though.

Hey Steve,

Interesting points. If you had each guilds chat on your main chat panel you would likely get a huge amount of traffic and not be able to keep up with the volume. I get that people can hide channels but it needs to be designed in such a way that at its max functionality it doesn’t break immersion.

Chris

I definately see your point. Its currently an issue in some areas now too. There are days when map/say chat in Divinities Reach can get going and I miss comments from my guild chat. Adding more channels could make things worse, definately. Maybe a chat revamp is neccessary? I don’t know.

I would be personally very unhappy if the amount of Guilds a player could belong to was reduced to only two.

Ideas that add to the game are great…ideas that remove what we already enjoy? Not so great. As evidenced by the player-base reaction to the latest Feature Patch.

I agree with you, that we should not take away any existing features. As it stands now though, being a member in mulitple guilds is not really functional. If you are repping in guild X, you cannot contribute to guild Y, see the MOD of guild Y, or communicate with guild Y in guild chat. This functionally eliminates you from being a member of guild Y in all but name.

I see a variety of comments on feeling more attachment to a specific guild and a lot of talk of the # of guilds people are a part of and the fear that is causing a lack of attachment. This lack of attachment keeps players players from being compelled to belong to any of their guilds instead of being compelled to belong to all of them (which was the original intention of this design of guilds as more social groups rather than as exclusive cliques).

I’d love to see some discussion on how we could create greater attachment to a single guild without taking away the current value of membership in multiple guilds.

I think that involves some discussion of the following.

1) What is currently a part of being in a guild that can’t be taken away, and why would it be bad to take it away?
2) Is there anything that is currently part of being in a guild that could be taken away and given to a more focused guild association? What could we do to mitigate some of the negativity of taking away current functionality? For example replace it on all guilds or enhance it for the one guild that it is tied to?
3) What kind of features are there that don’t even exist yet that would really only make sense with a more fixed association with a single guild?

A lot of good design discussions come from answering these questions anyway which I would summarize as what can/can’t we take away? What can/can’t we change? What can/can’t we add? I ask them in that order because it’s generally the order that they are easiest to implement in.

Jon

Honestly, I feel that if you were to reduce the number of guilds a person can belong to (say 2 for instance) and introduce an alliance system where guilds can ally themselves with other guilds, then This would make the guilds more close knit and still allow people to interact with friends in other guilds. I feel this would be the best way to resolve the issue.

Each guild could have x max number of allies. This system would help smaller guilds to have more people to support their activities/missions. The alliance system should also allow a guild to earn guild merits/influence by interacting with the ally guilds missions and events.

I am extremely hesitant with this because it smacks of a reputation grind. In that regard, I would have to adamantly disagree. Now, if ANet was able to implement it without using a faction grind, then this could be good. I don’t want to have to grind faction in order to experience content.

This is the same thing that was in GW1 with the kurzik/luxons. It’s not much of a different mechanic. If its done correctly it wouldn’t be any more of a grind than getting geodes to buy from merchants in dry top (which ia also a reputation system of sorts by earning “favor”.)

Ressing people doesn't reward you

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: steveway.3167

steveway.3167

As the title says, ressing people doesn’t reward you if you already unlock that achievement or you did daily reviver (both pretty really easy).

Fact is:
1) In places like EotM, capping is more important to ress people died or downed out of the circle, creating a bad way to play the game “I don’t care if you don’t get in circle you helped me out to cap, because I will lost my reward”(karma, exp, wvw points etc). Even Commandera go cap instead of showing players that before capping would be nice to help others, especially if you’re far away from your Server waypoint.

2) World Bosses like Tequatl or Great Jungle Wurm and maybe Jormag too make lots of dead people and it’s almost impossible for players have time to ress them, but in Bosses like Shatterer, Behemoth, Fire Elemental etc, there’s no risk to fail the event because you helped ress some players. But people still don’t like to do it.

So, people don’t get used to ress people, or maybe they do after they capped or they killed the Boss, and it’s really useless for people get ressed after the big event happened.

So I would like to ask to Anet if there’s any chance to increase the “Combat Healer” achievement with more rewarding points to get and nice titles, or bag loots as in Sanctum Sprint (“Ress 50 times”, repetable +TOT Achievement Points) in order to get people used to help eachother and don’t think just for themselves.

When we started the game, lots of people ressed others, because obviously the Achievement Combat Healer. And it was great cause you were sure, once you were died, that someone would have come to ress you.
Now that we almost all already have that title, we tend to ignore deqd people around, we just think “it’s their problem if they die, they want to wear full zerker, they want to rush etc etc.” And maybe some other nice people lose their rewards too to help those you didn’t want to help.

Maybe it’s not the main problem right now, but it would help a lot the community and the feeling that you just don’t play for yourself and none is left behind.

Also, today maybe you didn’t die, but we all know the feeling when train/people/farmers/players, ignores us when we’re dead next to them.

Hope to receive an answer, I really hope for this

Thank you

I find it very sad people have to be rewarded to help others. It just speaks to the selfishness of people. Very sad.

Factions and Reputation

I would love to see more factions in Tyria. Currently there are the races and the Vigil/Priory/Whispers orders but none of them play a real part in the game Beyond the personal story.

Now that Zhaitan is defeated and the Mordrem have sprouted, why not introduce some factions in the game that players can find in various zones and help out for reputation and tiered rewards from faction quartermasters. The two most obvious factions would be one dedicated to thinning the risen from the world and one dedicated to thinning the mordrem.

I think this would add some life into Tyria as well as give players more to do in the form of reputation to earn and rewards to unlock for purchase.

I would also like to see this reputation idea added to the current Orders (Vigil/Whispers/Priory). They play such a small part. Why not add missions the player can do that offers side story about the orders and their campaigns and the parts they play in the world outside of the personal story. This would add more life in the game, more story and allow the player to really feel like they are a part of whatever order they joined. Not to mention give players more content to explore and things to achieve.

I love this idea. I think the orders were under used. We join and next thing you know we leave and forget about them. A faction/reputation system that would lead to special weps/armor/items would be great and give more to do in existing maps.
Also this could work toward a faction specific item that could be used to make legendary armor. Imagine legendary whispers/vigil/priory armor.

A question on behalf of veteran players

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: steveway.3167

steveway.3167

I wholeheartedly agree that any MMO needs to keep attracting new players. I just don’t think they need to have the mental capabilities of a chicken, that’s all.

I asked the question before, last QoL-update, if people were really struggling so much with traits. Apparently even back then new players couldn’t count to five anymore.

And now people are so confused about the downed state that they even removed it for the first five levels.

I’m sorry, what? How does this in any way make it more simple to understand?

What level of quality end game players are we raising with this, I wonder.

The weird thing with that approach is how inconsistent they are about it. At the same time as “we have to slowly ease you into the downed state mechanic”, they remove the thing where you have to unlock weapon skills one by one. Which I always thought was to let new players understand/get used to the individual skills of each weapon through use, rather than throwing them 5 new skills all at once.

I’m not saying that the weapon skill unlock system wasn’t also annoyingly slow, just that that change is completely against their prevailing approach to new players.

It’s almost like they are trying to address many of the complaints from launch. Like, leveling was too fast, not enough understanding of skills and mechanics and such. Maybe in two years they will address these new complaints?

This is all stuff they put into the chinese version to resolve our issues. We are just getting a port of that change.

Does this mean that it will affect level 80s?

Yes it will but the change will not be easily noticeable.

I’m sorry, but what you’re saying doesn’t add up. The change is supposed to make things easier for leveling characters, which means that they should be able to notice some difference. Level 80s tend to get several times more loot than leveling toons, especially when farming for it. The way RNG works… any change that can be noticed in a small sample size should be much more obvious in a large sample size.

Unless the Likelyhood of getting a certain type of loot is scaled by level. That is what they seem to be saying. The loot drops seem to be level dependent now allowing for greater chances of a specific type at lower levels. like a weighted system. I guess we’ll see on 9/9.

A question on behalf of veteran players

Tsssk, as a veteran I have to say fowl play Anet. At this point, do you give a cluck about us still? Because you’re really ruffling some feathers.

lol, nice.

I do think that it is in the companies best interest to attract new players and this update is a good move towards that. I don’t feel the vets are being neglected though. Theres plenty more coming up, this is just one small piece.

Orr and the future of GW2

I think this would be a very cool idea to see Orr heal. The healing of Orr has to be balanced by not affecting the story for new players but at the same time giving the island a feel that it is being rebuilt. Would it be possible to add a new area in the island of Orr? Maybe a new temple can be built with a new city being built along side. An event of the temple could be a failed attempt to summon the gods and it goes terribly wrong and evil monsters get summoned instead! The new city trying to defend itself from this new evil. Maybe the new area will have more influence of the mysterious Largos since it is an island bordering the Unending Ocean. More brainstorming would have to be done but these are just a few ideas.

The Existing area only covers half the island, so there’s room for a new area. That is a good idea. I for one would like to see that. To keep it from interfereing with the existing story the area could be locked out until you complete the PS. For example a guard could be outside the gate and say, “keep back, by order of the pact. Its too dangerous.” or something…. then when you complete the dungeon you get an unlock to the area. The new map would logically follow the story.

Ideas for the next Feature Packs!

(8)Vigil/Whispers/Priory Order Reputation, missions, quartermaster with new armor and weapon sets available at different reputation tiers. (these guys need to play more of a part in the every day world!)

Great Idea, I think the individual orders are very under used. We join them and then run off. It doesn’t feel as though they were really developed. I would love a reputation system to come back, it was used in the first GW (lux/kurz) but got left behind.

(9)Gear sets craftable with unique world boss items

This could be the way to craft new legendary items. Tie them to the mega bosses then add in the scavenger hunt to level them up.

(10)Player Housing

Yes Please! I would love this, but it would need to be functional and not just cosmetic. It would need to give more storage, and maybe something like bonuses.

While we’re at it, hasn’t it been long enough now that we can release some of the HoM skins back and obtainable in another way?

They made it pretty clear that those would always remain exclusive to the HoM.

I was thinking with the China release, maybe they would reconsider.

Why Guild Wars needs an expansion

I don’t understand why everyone is hung up on it having to be a sold expansion. Like i said other MMOS (STO) are doing both expansions and LS like content and they are both free. They release 1 expansion and 1 living story per year. (If thats too often, they can alternate LS and expansion every other year.) They support themselves through a gem store too. When the free expansion came out they had additional items related to the expansion in the gemstore. They were not required to play the expansion either. They were for example costumes/armor etc useable by the new race.

With a free expansion, there is no dividing the player base. Everyone can play any content they choose. With the option of purchasing new prestige content from the gem store if they also choose.

I don’t see the problem with this announcement. It doesn’t negatively affect vets and will help new players who feel they have to get to level 80 quickly to experience the game. How is that a problem? The rewards for each level will probably not be significant to a long term player (vet) but will help lower level players feel like they achieved something.

This was already discussed in this thread:

An ANET rep said it would not be a noticable difference.

Why Guild Wars needs an expansion

Ok, Expansions are not a bad idea and they don’t have to be paid. Star Trek Online has gone the free expansion route. This gives all the perks of a full expansion (ie new race, guild halls, new areas, etc) and still kept the same free to play model with their version of the gem store to support them. In addition to this they also have a Living story model they call “seasons”. So the two do not have to be mutally exclusive.

If they’ll implement this to all levels, I sure hope to god they’ll also change the crafting recipes for everything. If you’re going to make me get only class specific items then you better make those items require only certain types of materials. If cloth isn’t going to drop for me then my items shouldn’t require cloth to be crafted.

The article only says it will increase the type of drops you can use. It does not say it will eliminate all nonusable drops. You will still get drops that can salvage for cloth. I doubt any recipes will be changed either.

“It’s still possible for a warrior to get a new staff to sell or for mesmers to find a rare rifle, but it’ll be a bit less common than it was before.”

Im sorry, but I don’t see how that is a negative feature. I for one look forward to it.

What are 3 features that you wish the most?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: steveway.3167

steveway.3167

1. A new Race (Tengu please….or Koda)
2. Player Home and Guild Halls
3. More uses for blade shards and sprockets.
4. Increase all remaining crafting to 500 please.

All of these could be done in a full expansion pack. If you need inspiration for what a good free expansion pack includes, please refer to the Star Trek Online Expansions. The first included a new race, new guild halls, etc.

Should I remake a class I have?

You could use a total makeover kit if you want to stay as a human. If you want to go norn, you will have to make a new character though. If your first human is a different class though you will have to remake it. There is no current way to change classes.
