Actually, WoW Unique doesn’t mean the same thing than in GW2. In WoW, a Unique item is an item where it’s impossible for you to even own two copies. In GW2 you can own multiple copies but can only equip one at a time.

WoW system is much more user friendly here since the store will refuse to sell a second copy to you.

I’ve had a similar issue on Southstone with my thief. Against the Drake Broodmother. The huge poison duration she would apply, if I tried to cure it quickkly after it was applied with the signet, it wouldn’t get removed at all. It was very weird. There is something wrong going on with condition removal in PvE.

I guess that was why Epic changed Unreal Tournament UT99 domination game type with points ticking while you control an area to the double domination gametype in UT2k3 with points given when a team controls both areas for 10 seconds straight. Once the point was given, areas would return to neutral and players would respawn from start.

In most cases, this trap will be a non factor for roaming thieves because of the cost. But it doesn’t make it ok either. The random situations where it’ll proc will feel like that : random. Like the game decided to kill you for no good reason at all. Like if you stumbled onto a forgotten trap that wasn’t even put here by the player you were fighting.

And all that, I fail to see why the debuff has to be 30s long. I mean, if it was meant as an anti zerg stealth tool, why put such a huge revealed debuff on it? Wouldn’t 10s be more than enough?

The only situation where 30s revealed instead of 10s matters is when a Thief that had heavily invested in Shadow Arts gets hit by it.

in WvW

Posted by: stof.9341

stof.9341

I’m sorry but stealth isn’t thief’s core gameplay mechanic that shouldn’t be countered – it is having initiative counter instead of cooldowns on your spells.

And now about traps – do they cost badges AND karma or one of that two? Anybody tried it yet? Do you even see it when enemy triggers it?

Except that a Thief in stealth unlocks new skills to use, something no other class can do. Stealth IS for a Thief a profession mechanic.

Anti-stealth traps are underpowered.

in WvW

Posted by: stof.9341

stof.9341

Trap doesn’t prevent you from attacking / dodging / healing, just no stealth. So for 30 sec thieves have to l2p like the rest of us non-stealthers.

It prevents the thief from using some of his skills for 30s. It makes all stealth skills/utilities useless for that duration and make it impossible to land a Backstab, Tactical Strike and the like.

I don’t see that reduced dps on weapons/kits. I find my engineer to be rather strong on that point.

Of course, I’m taking into account the fact that practically all our weapons are ranged so I don’t compare my DPS to a GS warrior. Ranged weapons all have rather weak DPS. Except engineer grenade kit.

Our toolbelt skills are weaker than utilities yes. But we got 4 of them.

As I said already, if you compare an engineer with 1 kit to another standard class, you got :
- Engineer got 1s CD weapon swap instead of 5/10s
- Engineer got 1 less utility skill
- Engineer got 4 toolbelt skills which are tiny utilities

So, isn’t the loss of one utility skill worth getting 1s CD only on weapon swap and 4 toolbelt skills?

The OP post can be summed as :

Engineers are different, they need to be the same for balance.

A game where everyone plays the same class with same weapon and same skills would be balanced yes. But it’s not the only way to achieve it. Asking ANet to make all classes the same will not improve the game.

I disagree with that all about engineer. I do think we are expected to take one kit as part of our utilities yeah but what? Engineer is a class that :
- has no weapon swap by default
- can get one weapon swap per utility slot used. If you get two utilities for it, we got more swaps than all other classes except elem
- has no cooldown on weapon swap
- has a toolbelt profession mechanic that means we don’t really lose utility slots when we equip kits

All in all, I think it’s a rather nice trade off. You take a 1 kit build it gives us compared to other classes :
- 2 weapons, same as them
- 0.5s weapon swap CD compared to 10s (or 5s warriors with trait)
- 6 utilities + 1 heal. Yeah 4 of those utilities are a little weaker but it’s still more than 3 utilities + 1 heal. We trade 1 utility for 4 toolbelt utilities in the end.

Mesmer Downstate #2....

in PvP

Posted by: stof.9341

stof.9341

The fact remains: engineer downed skill #2, grappling line, is the worst joke in this game and mesmer #2, deception, is far better.

I won’t comment on the mesmer part but the engineer #2 is better than the warrior #2 at the minimum. The pull part isn’t that bad either. It does more damage, is instant cast compared to a 1s cast and the pull is more useful than a knockdown.

how can someone complain about this? almost all downed skills have a counter (except of ele and thief, lowest hp profs), its ok as it is…

Thief is counterable by teleporting to him in midstomp. Mesmer isn’t counterable since the stomp WILL fail if the mesmer is still in stealth at the end of the cast. With a 3s stealth duration on his skill #2, I fail to see how it can fail if you don’t attack.

The answer is simple : average party MF in dungeons.

Diablo III failed doing it correctly because even without MF sharing, it was much more profitable farming alone than in a group. In Diablo III, groups take longer to kill mobs because they get more health and more damage the more players there are. In fact, the “not sharing MF” part they did was more like one of the many incentives to group they created than some better system for handling MF.

In GW2, we don’t have such issues. If you want to farm a dungeon, you get a full group because going alone only means taking 5 times longer to kill stuff for the exact same reward.

I run with the Ancient Karka Shell which has a 3% inherent magic find. I also have Lunaria, Circle of the Moon with an inherent 4% magic find.

Celestial items serve a role that no other items in the game can provide even ignoring MF.

And all that doesn’t matter because we are talking about people that take stuff like Explorer’s sets when they could have chosen Berserker and just be objectively more useful to their group in every situations.

That guy with the MF gear might have been focused on solo PvE so far, and just now trying to join a CoF run to get some berserker gear, I’ll never know for sure, but I’m not going to judge.

Which is why the solution is just to average the MF stat for all players in a group. Simple and effective.

The game is balanced for blue/green gear. Any stats above that are a bonus.

No part of the game is balanced around everyone wearing full exotics and ascended gear. People can equip any bonus they want, and it doesn’t make them selfish. THEY ARE NOT SELFISH.

Once upon a time, a MF player was walking down a path and reached a fork. On the left, there was a sign written : “Berzerker gear : your party will kill stuff fast”. On the right it was written : “Explorer gear : your party will will kill stuff slower but you’ll get twice as much loot”. And the MF guy took the right path because he doesn’t care about the other players in his party but he gets more loot so that’s all that matters for him.

MF gear (Explorer specifically) loses 1/3 of the offensive stats compared to Berserk for 0 group benefits. Using MF gear is the same as a player that AFKs for 1/3 of the dungeon and still gets the same rights to loot than the rest of the team. IE, he’s a leech.

Wanna bet?
1 player has 50%. 1 has 40%, 1 has 30% and one have 5%. The last one have x%. If x=0 then sum is 50+40+30+5 = 125. So on average 125/5 = 25%. 1st player before share was 50%, after is 25%. – cut in half

So Einlanzer is perfectly right : there’s no way a single player in the group caused you to lose half your MF. It took the concerted effort of 4 players out of 5 to do it.

TBH, you can do it with 3 players only even.

They should just use one of the balances every other game with stealth employs, instead of using none of them.

Take a tip from TF2:

1. Stealthing and unstealthing is not instantaneous.
2. Getting hit while stealthed will show numbers.
3. You have to be fully uncloaked to attack someone. (This may already be the case, but dat rendering)

It’s OK to make the Stealth in GW2 similar to TF2. And let’s include those little facts that you forgot :
- everyone is stuck playing in first person mode
- a thief melee dagger attacks instantly kills anyone he hits on the back

Got an idea for a condition that shouldn’t be too hard to make, and would work rather well for a necro.

Decay. Stacks in intensity :
- each second, decay gets a new stack of duration equal to the shortest stack on the target
- decay does no damage over time
- decay does damage equal to one burning tick when it is removed either through condition removal, through timer ending or if condition cap pushes one out

It’d not be something that needs to remain specific to necro. Can change the name for that. The trick is, this condition works amazingly well with Epidemics.

Yes. You are right. The S/D skillcap is higher compared to other thief’s builds. BUT, BUT, this doesn’t mean that evades aren’t too much. They should be toned down a bit to the point that you can’t afford to spam them, but you can be extremely effective if you time them correctly. Right now, you can just spam you evades getting nice results.

Also, Infiltrator’s Strike should be looked into. No-cooldown stunbreaker is insane, seriously.

Technically, it’s a 5 init stun breaker that needs to be precast 15s in advance or it’s not available to use.

I don’t think a trait that doubles DPS in AoE situations is balanced either.

Consider that sword/shortbow attacks are more powerful, and triple DPS in AE situations without any traits at all.

Maybe we should add a trait that triples the damage Daggers do them. Since obviously the dagger that cannot cleave for around the same autoattack DPS than sword is inferior.

The pistol main autoattack might be very weak indeed. It’s still not a reason to add a trait that basically doubles the damage they do. ANet already got enough problems with the Engineer grenade trait that adds 50% more damage but at least it’s a grandmaster rank trait. What they need is to boost the base damage and keep ricochet at 20%

#3: 3 hits on various enemies for 223 each.
#4: 3 hits on various enemies (same fight as #3) for 194 each.

I’m not sure how to explain #3 and #4 being for exactly the same amounts for multiple people if it’s based on the amount of incoming damage. Maybe there’s something more complicated going on, which would explain why the patch notes are so vague.
