I had actually been thinking about writing up a page to do something similar for showing off dyes and different armors, but then lack of motivation and real work killed that idea. Pretty great to see something like this set up -- thank you for it!
You only waited fifteen minutes before deciding to be passive-aggressive and assume no one would help you?
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild_mission
You will need to use your guild’s influence to make sure you have appropriate ranks (Economy, Politics, etc.) in order to give the guild the ability to "build" access to guild missions. Then you’ll be able to go out and do them for the merits.
These are different than the projects that the merits themselves can be used for, though, and should only require time and influence points.
And here I appreciated that we had yet another daily for something I was already doing. Silly me.
Whoa, wait. The game engine cannot do something that a skill was designed to do? That seems like a case of the left hand having no idea what the right hand is doing. What happened there?
Sometimes when you hoover over one map, it shows the name, and points from some other map.
So you have to check the name t be sure ;-)
Yup, and I kind of both chuckle and frown at the same time. Usually just closing and re-opening the map will get it to stop being confused.
Ouch. Had this crop up again on me in dragon fights this morning a couple times. It was even followed by a client crash twice on Claw of Jormag (fortunately upon getting back in I was able to join the same fight on an Overflow and still loot a chest). I had previously been able to tap the sound setting down one notch and avoid this, but I guess not anymore.
Dear Anet, please also fix Hint Completed. Mine is stuck on 80/83 even though I have all the hints checked as completed.
Thanks
I am also stuck, though I am at 79/83. All I have yet to do is let may mailbox get full, as I apparently have not done that yet, but the achievement tracker indicates that it hasn’t counted at least three other hints that I have completed.
Additionally, after doing the Frozen Maw a couple times tonight, I still haven’t gotten the Svanir’s Bane achievement under the Bosses section. To my knowledge, that’s just a go-and-kill achievement, and I have gotten gold and looted the chest whenever I do this event (I’ve done it on different characters, as well). Worked today, with a smaller group. I am going to assume that previous attempts were downing the shaman too quickly (for example, quick enough he didn’t transform), similar to how groups often get Tequatl down before the Megalaser even fires.
(edited by synk.6907)
Personally I’ve never liked how "set this area on fire" was made into "well only a few arbitrarily-picked targets" instead. Game balance is a son of a kitten.
This may help -- I’ve noticed that folks who haven’t been online in a while are just shown as "Unknown" for their location. I am not 100% sure on the length of time that triggers this, though, but it seems to be more than a couple of weeks.
That said, sometimes after a patch everyone gets listed like this until they log in once.
In any case, it’s not what you’re asking for but keeping an eye on that may help in the interim.
Plus we all get great entertainment out of his RP-ing. He is an army veteran so he yells “MEDIC” when he needs a revive. That happens a lot.
This is amazing and adorable.
Someone get this man back in the game ASAP!
I am playing Sylvari, and I’m getting sick whenever I see those conversation loading and those british accents and stiff dialogues. I usually press Skip to End and do the quest.
I don’t even know what the story is about and making choices is completly random for me.
Should I care? Did I fail and ruin everything? The personal stories vary by playable race. If you’re not enjoying the one you’re currently playing you may want to roll a new character. Try asura or charr. You may find their tone more to your liking.
but only for the first ~20-30 levels
Once you join an order, it’s all the same, minus the voice actor for your race/gender combination. Yes, there are some forking paths that we can explore separately on different characters, but it’s more or less the same exact thing with little variation and tons of boring Trahearne pal-ing around. And virtually no ties to previous choices made.
The intro portion of the personal story, the parts associated with your race selection and character creation choices, are terrific for every race. I have enjoyed them all immensely.
Many of the missions with teams like Tegwen and Carys and the Gear Warband and those two asura (with the one who was a fight announcer or whatever) and others like them who are parts of the Orders have great writing and lines, but they don’t overshadow the larger aspects of the personal story at this point. Dealing with petty inter-Order bickering, tagging along with a guy who’s miles short of inspiring, and having no meaningful connection to earlier story (e.g. your surviving warband member as a charr never appears again, your efforts as a hero among your people or a genius/mad scientist among your college or as a great hunter, etc.), leave the GW2 personal story wanting, in my opinion. Perhaps that’s more a side-effect of it implying a lot of potential to me but failing to deliver on it than of it truly being "worse" than GW1 or whatever, but it’s fair to say that when leveling characters I resign myself to knowing that heading to LA to watch Destiny’s Edge argue before I meet my mentor is the beginning of the decline in the story.
edit: But the mentors are amazing. Each of them. Truly a pleasure. Which makes it all the more sad when you are forced to leave them and buddy up with Trahearne.
edit2: Man I never disliked Kormir. The gods gave us a choice, and she sussed it out and took a chance. Worked for me; at least the NPCs still proclaimed my characters as the hero at the end of everything. Gameplay-wise, it would also be dull if we all were gods after playing through Nightfall!
(edited by synk.6907)
Not wanting a last name had me trying to create a sylvari character for what felt like a couple hours one morning several months back. As it is, I ended up giving up on a serious name, a first for me. But at least she doesn’t have a surname!
The Mursaat keep to themselves, drinking away their sadness in a seedy bar downtown, frustrated at how they failed to take over the world but their tactics are being used in the current end-game grind.
I would imagine there’s a similar RNG to the JP chests as with any mob kill.
I do them at least once for the achievement, but my repeat trips aren’t ever for the loot (though sometimes what I get does get tossed at a leveling alt).
(edited by synk.6907)
Most of the more interesting characters in the personal story, especially once you start messing around with the Orders and are out of your character creation/race selection section of the story, are the ones that get killed off.
Well, that’s not fair; many of the ones I like live, and I guess it’s mostly Trahearne that annoys me. But, still, so many cool NPCs die in the various paths my characters have taken, and some as needlessly as Saidra.
Tegwen’s really bugged me, for example. That didn’t need to happen at all, and to such a fun character!
(edited by synk.6907)
Trahearne is like JD Drew.
That’s an insult to one of my most hated players to ever put on a Sox uniform. At least Drew could manage in right field.
If Treehorn was out there, he’d just wait for Ellsbury or Pedroia to make the catch, then take all the credit.
This insult only works if Trahearne takes personal credit for things he didn’t do. Which he hasn’t. At all.
But he has…
for example, the name “Fort Trinity”, or things you’ve done with NPCs in some of the various forks in the story missions
Yeah, I’ve described him as a text-to-speech program to most of my friends.
Now that I’ve finally gotten around to playing my sylvari past the intro stuff, it bugs me even more, and not just due to his poor line delivery compared to, say, the Pale Tree and Caithe or, really, any of the sylvari NPCs.
Yeah, it’s totally based on the amount of adrenaline and not the direction of growth. Seems like someone should be able to simply add a "if decreasing" clause to check for this, but eh. Going since launch, at least, so I don’t expect this will change.
It’s also odd that other players can hear this (and do, all the bloody time) when they can’t hear cool things like a necromancer saying "I summon you, minion! Rise!"
agreed
I, for one, would love to hear all those little things. If we hear all the comments on might and speed boons being applied, necros should be audible to more than their minions as well!
But it’s stealth, not phasewalking.
"Oh no I got attacked by other players in a PvP area!"
Join the fight with your world-mates to secure the territory, giving your server time to complete the map(s) and jumping puzzles! I’m certainly not very good at PvP, but I sure like that I am encouraged to do it, just as the PvP folks are encouraged to try out PvE content.
Ha, man, I sure am glad I am not the only one who finds it a bit... dumb to allow people to keep purchasing unlocks beyond the limit set in the game.
proper hexes and shutdowns
Back in GW1, there was no trinity really, any class could heal, some were just better at it than others, you could have Necro healers, Ritualist healers, Paragon healers, Ranger healers, every class COULD heal. So the whole “getting rid of trinity” thing just seems kinda redundant since GW1 never really did have a set trinity system.
That was more a side-effect of the dual profession system, not truly a characteristic of every profession. Additionally, only a few profession set-ups, mostly warriors but a couple others, could tank. It certainly was still a trinity, albeit a fun one due to the attribute re-allocation and vast list of skills.
I do number 7 in that video all the time whenever I pass by that area. I love those buggy pirates.
That’s a refreshing take on it, Pasha, but I would think that would come out better in what he says or awkwardly does more than in dialogue that just sounds like it’s being read flatly.
I just went here to look at this after reading your post.
The same thing happens for me. Depending on how close you are to the area of ground, the camera angles that cause it alter a bit, but it will consistently color brown as your angle stays mostly east/southeast of it (i.e. more or less if your camera is pointed toward that area from the direction of the two huntsman stations or the charr NPC between them).
Darn. Visions still has two hilts?
Killeen in Ghosts of Ascalon is, in my opinion, a great example of one of the ways sylvari and necromancy make sense. She was certainly not evil, nor is necromancy itself evil [a theme explored often in GW1 already].
The race is still so young, the individuals often new to everything in the world, that an almost innocent curiosity permeates through a lot of what they do. How better to study aspects of death and disease than through its very manipulation and relevant magics?
**edit: And yeah as noted above death and sickness and all that overall is something sylvari don’t really get, since their race differs quite a bit from the others in areas like this, emphasizing the opportunities afforded by the profession.

Another thing to note for groups is that as long as one player reaches Sieran the wind will stop.
For solo folks, watch the flags. The wind effect is more or less visible all of the time, so you really just have to keep an eye on the flags. As soon as you see them flap, you’ve got a slight pause before you should book it to the first wall and wait. Repeat again towards Sieran. If you wait for the flags to be still, it is possible that you will have waited too long and get blasted off halfway.
I just did this recently with two friends newer to the game, and they kept falling off the first part of the wall. I think they were trying to take it slow to ensure proper footing, leaving them in the open when the wind came back, but there was also a lot of bad timing on when they chose to step out from the first part (I ended up just heading to Sieran ahead of them to shut off the wind). Really just run straight as soon as those flags start to return vertical and you’ll be fine.
(edited by synk.6907)
It’s Mira.
She gets burned badly by Blightgast when it lands and wrecks the wall. Trahearne also mentions that she’s hurt as he carries her, giving a reason for you to lead the charge to the docks (to clear a path so he can carry her and lead the others to safety).
Yesterday and into today, while playing on an asura and a sylvari (both female), I noticed that the audio for when you close a window at a vendor or bank wasn’t correct.
You know how you’ll approach the NPC, interact with him or her, and the NPC will give you a line of dialogue; then when you leave after vendoring or whatever, your character says something back? That is triggering fine, but for both of these characters I have been getting human female audio. One time I thought it might have been norn female, but I cannot confirm that at the moment.
I was not around other players (for example, being alone in a mostly dead Grove) a few times that I noticed this happening, though I am pretty confident you don’t hear other players’ audio callouts for closing vendor windows anyway.
I have just now tried it again on my sylvari a couple of times here in The Grove and gotten human female audio. However I have also gotten sylvari audio correctly.
*shrug* Not sure what’s up, though the above suggests it may be that one or two of the potential responses that could trigger are pointing to the wrong race’s audio file.
additional note:
So far, now that I am actively paying attention to this, the human line my sylvari keeps saying is the, "I’ll be seeing you." one. I have gotten that twice in about four attempts, the other two being proper sylvari female lines. I will try to see if this is the same for the asura.
(edited by synk.6907)
Your audio is far too low. You are barely making a whisper, even if I turn off music, game audio, whatever and only listen to the video.
I do think the general idea is nice, as it does seem like there are folks who have trouble with jump mechanics. Hopefully after watching a video like this someone who isn’t keen on the jumping puzzles will give them a better try.
edit: For the "Getting Past Characters" section, I would also note that it might help to practice getting a feel for where your character is in relation to the center of the screen at all times. I recall the tons of complaints about charr and norn during the Clock Tower puzzle. However, when I ran that puzzle on an asura and sylvari and human to see how they compared (I had first done it as a norn, if I recall, or maybe a charr), I had no problem. That’s because I was confident about where my character was and would be thanks to knowing how the camera works even if she was covered by some other character. That said, your point about doing something to make your character stand out in the crowd to you probably is the best one to heed.

While I prefer to kite with some manner of strafing and turning to avoid the slow speed of backpedaling, I like that it’s an option for movement in general.
There are times where I like to use it when wandering around or to slowly keep out of range of an enemy.
I also like being able to use it to quickly aim a dodge backwards.
It also lets you stay on target longer, such as for ranger as mentioned above or while casting most spells. Oh, sure, you are still on target when strafing and kiting, but sometimes you might turn enough to interrupt yourself or lose sight on target.
That said I do not think you are really hurting yourself by unbinding it. As long as you are comfortable with how you move and are capable of avoiding damage and getting attacks on target, more power to you if that leaves you free to ignore it. I just wouldn’t, personally.

Charr footprints on snow are rotated backwards when moving forward (the arrow on screenshot indicates the direction my character is moving).
Race: Charr
Profession: Warrior
Sex: Male
I’d like to support this post. On my female guardian, I had thought I saw my footprints being placed backwards, but I had not taken screenshots to post about it. If more would be helpful, I would be happy to gather some.
I have an armor disconnect/model seam issue on the character model.
Race: asura
Sex: female [though I suspect it might not matter for this race]
Armor type: light
My asura elementalist is wearing a Slayer’s Coat for the chest and a Magician Legs (modifiers/stats not included, as that shouldn’t influence the model). These are level 39 and level 41 required pieces, respectively.
There is a visible line across the character model that is see-through. A screenshot of this is attached.
Upon testing with a different top / bottom, it appears that the Magician Legs piece fails to connect; the top seems to play nice.
edit: added other attachment (no chestpiece, to highlight the legging being at fault)

Legendary items will take time. Not meant to be had in a matter of weeks.
While I am inclined to agree, the number I’ve seen on my server seems to suggest otherwise.
Let me clarify a few things, as there is some confusion arising from these threads:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Armor-preview-change-is-NOT-permanent
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/No-more-preview-for-all-armor-types/
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Option-to-Preview-Armors-Outside-Our-Profession/As part of an overall improvement to armor previewing we have had to *temporarily* disable the ability to see armors outside your class. We are working towards updating the system as whole.
We did intend to remove the armor preview *temporarily* in order to fix issues and improve functionality. So currently, yes, you cannot preview armors outside your own profession--this is only a temporary situation while we work on updates to this system.
We’re sorry about all the confusion in the previous threads.
We sincerely appreciate and thank you for your patience while the team works on this feature.
Given that, why wasn’t a note about it included in the patch notes? That would have been quite useful in deterring the creation of multiple threads and been a handy reference to point to if players asked the question anyway.
I do truly thank you for the heads up, as that is fantastic news, but if it was intended as a temporary change to accommodate superior implementation and fixing, I am at a loss as to why a significant UI change wasn’t mentioned.
I mean this as an honest question, though I understand that text on a forum may imply an emotional motive that is not present.
edited to remove a sentence clause that may have been seen as inflammatory

I thought they had patched the mission to remove drops.
edit for below: Fair enough, clearly I am recalling the wrong thread or it was about a different mission.
(edited by synk.6907)
I don’t recall having more than a handful of Risen peeling off from the nearby NPCs to stop me from reviving Mira on any of my playthroughs. As far as I recall, I could kill them, begin the res, and roll away and fight newcomers before going back to the res without too much fear of death.
The mission certainly drops more foes on you than most previous ones and can definitely pose a challenge, especially since your NPC allies are sometimes quite content to watch idly when a swam of Risen zerg you.
However, when playing with some friends doing this story mission on their characters, I couldn’t help but notice how laughably easy it felt with multiple player-characters running around. Perhaps snagging a friend or fellow Claw Island story player may make this a breeze for you.
It felt, to me at any rate, that the design of the game clearly assumes the player will be doing the dungeons as soon as they are available and at an "appropriate" time alongside their story. In reality, it’s quite common for the story modes of dungeons to be skipped until a later time, even until a character is at max level, which can certainly contribute to a further disconnect between the dungeon story modes and the personal story tie-in for Destiny’s Edge.
While I certainly do like that DE is given story and events and we can interact with them, I don’t really agree that the personal story "swerves off track" because of this disconnect. The personal story gets awkward for a slew of other reasons, imo, and not explicitly guiding the players into the dungeons as you suggest only makes it easier to "forget" all of the cool stuff you do up to level 30 with your racial hero as you focus on your Order/the Pact.
Underwater combat has been terrible.
Seeing all of the underwater-related updates in the latest patch was amazing, regardless of other issues. Mobs going invulnerable may still be A Thing(tm), but at least there was some love given to our aquatic adventures.
It helps that the little cretins can’t stack it on you if you stay at range. Kiting them and swapping to a ranged weapon helps you take them all out more easily as needed.
As to confusion itself, I love using it as a mesmer despite all of its potential to do nothing in fights. But I have never felt very threatened by it as a victim. Granted I do not sPvP, so I perhaps do not have a complete picture of how harshly it could be stacked on me.
it`s us WvWers that give the PvErs all those free buffs they`re making use of
But since wub-wub is basically PvE with enemy players in the dynamic events, I’d think there’s enough overlap that the PvErs are contributing to their own buffs.
People play healers because it’s relatively easy to do. Sorry, but I played a healer for a long time and it is easy to do.
lol
The amount of times I’ve been all but AFK as DPS in other games and still doing my job or topping meters is pretty amusing. You can’t do that as heals. APM can easily be much higher for a healer in most encounters, doing old content not withstanding.
DPS is always the easiest role**. The same scrub DPS that your group carries would wipe everyone as heals, probably as tank, too.
** This is not to say that good players won’t make it shine brightly, of course!
Anyway, I suppose this is all rather off-topic for this thread. You can still be an ace "healer" in the game -- just remove the idea that you’re on red bar support and maximize how often you can cover your enemies in boons, strip conditions, and mitigate damage. Likely you will be dodging and DPSing in the process. No stick in the mud healers here.
(edited by synk.6907)
Too many people have the GW1 mentality of elementalists where you specialized almost exclusively in one element all of the time. That just doesn’t provide all an ele can bring to the table [and should] in GW2.
You know, you run the risk of making the game a total pain for the non-cheaters if you are always gearing things towards the cheaters. That is a lot of experience to get in one sitting in one zone.
No, it’s not... Just complete a map zone and you’ll likely get it, especially on a higher-level character doing a lower-level zone. I hadn’t even realized I had completed this until I noticed it was marked as completed for me.
But I guess if you die a lot in exploration PvE it might pose a challenge.
edit: Well, maybe if your game time is in pretty small amounts here and there it could be out of reach temporarily. Wait for the weekend, I guess, then and just tackle a zone and own it like a boss.
(edited by synk.6907)
We had the ability to completely re-assign attributes and skillbars in GW1 as long as we weren’t in an instance.
That we can re-assign utilities and weapon skills on the fly out of combat but must go to a specific NPC for the trait builds feels like one step forward and two steps backward.
It would be nice, both for the convenience of tackling different content with different setups and for the ability to adjust to fit a group or challenge, to have the traits fluid, as well. If we absolutely *must* pay the fee to do it, fine.
I kind of miss the red engines.
experiencing the same/similar mess with the turret, tank controls spitting you out, and camera issues with this story at the tank section
