Nice opinion piece…which is pretty much just that. A very long opinion piece, but you blow it at the end.
You say this could be avoided,. but you don’t really know that. It’s pure conjecture. I’m not sure you’d said anything here that hasn’t been said in countless threads.
It’s just his opinion? Is it somehow worth less than any other post? I was pretty sure he made it clear this was his opinion, what with the heavily personalized introduction.
Your post comes across as solely attempting to devalue the worth of the OP.
@OP, thanks for the achievement; 20 pts closer to my new shiny helmet! But seriously, great post. As Vayne so eloquently pointed out, a lot of people echo this opinion but it’s nice to see someone who’s clearly passionate about how they feel and felt for the game over its lifetime elaborate on that in a post such as yours.
But that’s what the bots do, they devalue people’s opinions on how the game should be (based on what we were told prelaunch when Anet didn’t cut itself off from it’s players and actually worked with us).
OP I completely agree with you. If they wanted to add fractals they should have done it from the start, if they wanted to have ascended they should have kept the points the same but added something essential for running fractals/dungeons. But they didn’t do either of those things.
The open world has been made worse. The only time anyone shows up in a zone outside of Queensdale or SFen is due to a daily requirement or the single zone invasions. The problems this game has aren’t going to be solved overnight but they actually do have to try to start on them and what would show us they were serious about making the game better would be two things. Changing the stats on ascended to be no better than exotic, and removing DR. Those two things right there would be a show of solidarity to their playerbase in moving forward.

There is a thing called trinity lite. Most gamers ignore the fact that it’s there and since Neverwinter has come out people have been reminded of why it’s so great.
It’s where the trinity isn’t absolutely necessary but it still exists in a game for those who choose to use it’s benefits. For those who have access to it it makes for a much more balanced game experience in combat.
Adding aggro tables and a viable healing scaling system would be childs play for these people, but I think they actually believe having everyone be Zerker builds in a game with such diversity in gear is somehow better?? shrug
I’m pretty sure anet said they were going to make ascended weapons a really long while ago, and a lot of people kept asking for ascended weapons, a really lot of people, why the sudden change of mind?
There are also a lot of people that didn’t ever want it, they never changed their minds, they just hoped Anet would make the game they enjoyed 6 years or so ago.
Just like there were alot of people who didn’t want dungeons or fractals and were happy the first two months before everything that was valuable was shoved into those things despite the devs interviews claiming that we’d never have to set foot in a dungeon again.
It means that if it means more profitability they’ll do anything but we’re not talking directly about it at this time.
Oh, here’s something important.
Here’s a link to a tech-savvy guy/gal from another thread discussing how GW2 might use a faulty RNG algorithm altogether. That’d be fun, wouldn’kitten
I’m with him and the OP on these issues. WoW was like this in the vanilla days. I was there prior to hunters ever having pets added to the game and there was talk about this happening in dungeons from the players. People were angry and this wasn’t happening to them in games like SWG or EQ so they were talking of leaving WoW. Imagine if the people playing this game didn’t settle for less and demanded en masse that they fixed the issue? I don’t think that’ll happen because mmo gamers today simply throw their money at anything anymore giving the devs a false sense of players being happy about what they are doing.
What makes it worse is DR. So not only is their main system never going to reach the law of averages and pan out, but it artificially cut players off from better loot at the point to which these drops would normally start falling off mobs for many a player, so it worsened the issue for many of us. Thus the severe shortage of T6 materials before the introduction of the laurel system, and the continuing shortage of certain items still to this day like silver doubloons. They really don’t care so long as people keep sending them money, I personally haven’t seen them give a care about the issues unless it’s happening to certain types of players like dungeoneers or WvW. Anything open world is pretty much ignored entirely.
What I don’t like is not only are there hardly any stealth options for underwater combat but we also have to switch out our traits manually to even begin to function normally with the weapons we have to use underwater. Why don’t we have a separate trait spec for underwater combat like we do for our weapons that autoswitch when we are in swim mode.
My fav class is engineering despite all of the things they have done keep doing to break the class in PVE and continue their favoritism with the Warrior class over everything else. It’s still one of the most unique classes in the genre just with they’d give it the respect it deserves.
Thief is my second fav I can truly steal from the enemies guarding the chests like a real thief and run from enemies even while in combat with the 50% run speed boost trait!
I agree with the risk vs reward part. Anet has no clue how to balance it. It was 100x more balanced in gw1, but like many great things gw1 had, Anet seemed to totally forget about them while making gw2.
It was GREAT at the beginning of the game. When I first logged in and got to 80 in that first two weeks. (took my time on purpose) I thought WOW here’s a company that cares about their playerbase listens to them makes a great game and allows people the chance to get loot in the open world. Then November came along and poof, the loot was being manipulated so no more rares or exotics for many of us even for doing events, the loot system broke with the introduction of heavy changes to the magic find system and the addition of DR and I thought, what in the world are these people thinking?! don’t they realize what they have done? So far since it’s been one disappointment after another regarding rewards, they still haven’t realized yet.
What happens with me? I go buy a game like Don’t Starve and wait for them to fix this stuff read the news about it and if it sounds good come back and test it like I did with the magic find change. I’m watching really to see if they actually are doing what they claim, listening to the playerbase.
Three years later, a statement of intent. I think if you’re going to be 100% accurate, you’d also have to include the clarification that was posted 3 days after this though….because word for word without the clarification seems a bit misleading to me…particularly since they corrected at least one potential misintepretation publicly and right away.
Manifesto, statement of intent, propaganda…I don’t care what you call it. The fact is the ideals expressed in that “statement of intent” were sold down the river within a year of release. Just because the reversal of design philosophy doesn’t bother you doesn’t mean we should all accept it with a “meh” and a shrug of our shoulders.
I’m with you on this. Just like when they claim we should all ignore that they told us this and login for simply the “fun” of logging in, that it doesn’t matter that gear exists with higher stats or that we should just ignore that this game has become the opposite of what they claimed it would be.
To the statement above, I didn’t expect more than I was told and the manifesto was hardly the end all be all of the statements made by multiple devs (interestingly, most of those interviews disappeared entirely off the web in December of last year after people started questioning what was going on from November’s completely different direction than before so of course I don’t have those interviews to post here.) I just find it amazing that people think it’s solely due to one statement they made, it’s not it’s multiple statements over a period of 1 year prior to launch.

wow you’re right about it being annoying and unnecessary I’ll give you that!
this is how I feel when playing my thief D/D LOL enjoy and feel free to share your experience. It’s a gif hope it animates here.

since stealth pretty much works in PVE and WVW the same way, I’d have to say yea it’s working well. I personally would also give the hint of stealing from level 1 critters for a bit longer stealth since it stacks while out there.
What makes it even worse is not all classes are created equal in the scaling. Some classes (cough guardian cough) allow scaling like crazy in every skill, while others like engineer hardly have any skills that scale healing properly. It makes for a really really poor system in which they don’t even have the Arenanet trinity. Right now they just have burst damage zerker builds that are the most effective in PVE.
Healing Power and Power are the only attributes that scales differently from skill to trait.
Making it very off putting to new players when they spec 100 points into healing power and only see a 25 healing boost from their healing skill. As for power, you will always see an modest increase, after all, every skill uses power.
There shouldn’t be a place for Healing Power in Guild Wars 2.
Actually there should but there should be ample means of it scaling properly to actually make support heal more than the tiny damage that the level 5 zone scaling provides. My heals should never be 198 at max healing while running around Orr, there’s seriously something wrong there. Secondly, increasing the scale of healing improves the overall team diversity, and third even if they fixed that if they actually made the trinity exist again in this game (their own trinity not the holy) they’d still have problems with people getting credit for events or for kills because people would be so busy keeping people alive there wouldn’t be enough kill credit under their all DPS credit system they have for events, so basically people would remain zerkers. Until they fix that major aspect of the game nothing will change. It’s the same for condition damage you can throw torment and a 2% damage increase per condition all you want but until you improve the overall condition system it’s going to be gimpt.
If you think a random casual that plays this game for 2 hours a week can still have fun and remain in the swing of things through these changes, you are wrong. (I’m not even in this category, I play about 12 hours a week, but a few of my RL gw buddies are.) They simply can’t keep up.
But your RL gw buddies have, like, 98% of the game if they want easily doable content. What’s wrong in having a few dungeon routes, a few dynamic events, and 1 world boss you cannot kill without playing as a team with other people? If they made this content easy, what challenge would the people that want one have?
Nothing is wrong with it so long as they provided what they promised. This was advertised as a casual game, it’s anything but and it’s getting worse not better. That’s the problem. Gear was never supposed to be a concern, dungeons were never supposed to be a concern, bosses that require 80 people to down were never supposed to be what the open world was about, grinding for loot that almost never drops shouldn’t be a problem, and even their own trinity doesn’t exist. Tell me how this game doesn’t have major issues again please.
How can I decrease my fun factor to a more appropriate level, more in-line with the forums’ viewpoints,
You can go play Anet’s previous game and realise what could have been.
Nope that doesnt work cause I did play Gw1 extensively but still feel like Draknar does exactly. It all boils down to priorities.
If you play Gw2 for the content you’re going to have tons of fun provided Gw2 is the game for you of course.
If you play Gw2 for the rewards rather then for the content then there is a good chance it will feel grindy and unfun.
I’ve played thru the content of this game. It gets to the point where that’s the only thing you login for anymore after you’ve experienced it all is for dailies or achievement completion.
If you like endless repetition fine, but don’t pretend people don’t login for horizontal progression we were promised, and don’t pretend that the game has become a grind and most especially don’t pretend that people don’t need ascended because that’s just dishonest. You know they are revamping all of the bosses and dungeons, you know they are planning on making things harder (yet another nail in the coffin of proof that this game is becoming less and less ‘casual friendly’ [because it’s not casual now sorry that’s the truth of the matter] and please please don’t pretend that their apology that was hidden in an interview that was unrelated to the whole ordeal of producing a game that turned out to be exactly opposite of what they advertised was enough to fix the problems and concerns actual casual players face in this title today).
It’s really that simple. The misdirection that people aren’t having fun isn’t the problem the problem is it’s not as advertised that’s the issue at hand and no amount of sunshine magical rainbows speech about the game is going to eliminate that fact from the table. You can certainly try tho.
I agree totally. It’s the key reason why I bought the thing and it’s been the basis for the complaints that they did a bait and switch on their customers. Games change especially mmo’s but they don’t change THAT much especially not 2 months after release.
There’s a ton of features and aspects of the game that have simply just been thrown out the window entirely that they talked about at length mind you (not one person but multiple members of the dev team) over the year before the betas began that many of the naysayers in these forums simply ignore when those of us who remember these interviews and videos bring it up.
It was never just the manifesto.
The game is beautiful. For the most part some of the combat ideas are fun (but need major work), the classes are unique, the open world content (if treated properly) could blow the whole genre away, the leveling system works very well, but this tendency to not test properly and to have a tiny fraction of the people working on the class problems while a large group of people work on a tiny update to the open world content every two weeks is just terrible.
(edited by tigirius.9014)
The game isn’t designed for casuals at all. It’s designed for hardcore players it has been since Nov 2012 and here’s how.
- Extreme Timegating.
- Dungeon focus.
- Temporary content
- Uneven rewards between activities.
- Rewards that are not equivalent to the difficulty of the objective.
- Lack of minigames with rewards
- Serious lack of new cosmetics every month (RPers mostly notice this)
- Lack of alternative activities that don’t involve killing (fishing, farming, housing)
- Balanced combat (they don’t even have their own trinity in this game in PVE, it’s all zerker or else, discrimination has occurred multiple times since the bosses were given immunity to CC and the healing scaled down and nothing’s being done about it!)
- Forcing casuals into PVP (WvW world completion)
- The need for new gear in 3 sections of the game: despite the claims otherwise, it’s a fact that everyone needs the most damage to compete, three sections of the game require this. WvW, casuals are forced to go there to complete world exploration! The tendency for new world bosses to be harder (you actually think people aren’t going to rage over the fact that someone is still using exotics eventually?) Dungeons (yes some casuals play dungeons and it’s extremely competative especially due to the poor combat design).
- No online or mobile access to in game features.
- No lotteries or minigames outside of the main game for rewards including currency and or crafting materials for high end gear.

Things I’d love to stop receiving are:
wigs
dresses
transmutation stone for 1-79
pile of putrid essence
black lion chests
pourous bones
chunk of crabmeat
hoof
spiral shell
fin
bent lockpick
How about we just get coin instead of these items so we don’t have to go thru and spend extra time separating the stuff every time we look in our bags, I feel like this is an episode of the hoarders where we simply pickup everything we see including Styrofoam cups and paper bags.
I think you give the devs too much credit.
There’s still no Mac support (meaning no OpenGL support, which is what Linux typically uses), and the game barely even supports its Windows build (horrid performance and no 64-bit client).
That said, if they do round up the MacOS port, they can probably do Linux/SteamOS right after considering most of the hard work will be done by then.
That’s what I’m seeing. Mac OS is not that difficult to port games over to. Blizzard has done it consistantly for years, they practically GIVE you all the tools to do it right on Apple’s website and anything missing is free to the public on many other devs websites so the delay is just another example of the lack of concern for the game imo. People often talk about how successful WoW is well one of the reasons it is so successful is because they have native Mac support right from the beginning with no hiccups.
Adding this to steam would allow people to connect in ways they simply don’t offer in game right now. It would actually improve their title. Not sure what the issue is really.
I would just simply like to be able to click Yes/No when someone else tries to merge party with mine, rather than being forced to merge and having no say in it.
The system Rift uses is the best one I’ve ever seen!
According to some, it’s about getting that new weapon skin, backpack and mini to tide us over until they add some other major ui update or dungeon.
I don’t really get people being upset about ascended weapons, I mean seriously, those 20 extra points doesn’t really make any difference. If you have full ascended trinkets it makes you better than someone with ascended weapons, and it’s a lot cheaper….
10% is 10% it makes all the difference in PVE dungeons especially since they are supposedly going to make them harder, it will make a difference in fighting the dragons, it will make a difference in WvW.
This argument is very strawman, it’s a dead horse response, it’s been disproven time and time again and it occurs in other game titles so there’s definitely a precedent for this kind of behavior in games. The mathematical fact remains, the higher the score the better the damage no trivializing will make that fact go away.
if you really wanted to use a pistol build with rabid armor, i’d go
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQJAqalspSXnvSeF17ICoH5FfNiie8YU2k9pAbB-jQCBINBkyAgIAMHqIas1hBp6KslXRTdDTHjIqWKAYmGB-eyou won’t be speed clearing anytime soon but the game is about playing what you find fun.
ps rampager gear would yield better results. i actually ran the build with rampager armor in arah and i did fine.
This is a great build even in PVE. I personally went back to using this for farming since the change to the gear. I use runes of the traveler on my gear because It was a great option for improving overall crit damage even on the condition damage crits themselves, and the runspeed.
My gear for open world isn’t rampager it’s a mixture of Mortal and Whispering for Precision Toughness Condition Damage. So I guess you could say that I’m a bit of a hybrid in the damage department. If tons of people are there doing lots of condition damage then I don’t have to worry, my burst damage is pretty good simultaneously.
The elixirs I use are S U and B the reason I use B is I like to stack retal and I like to sometimes start off with Retal if enemies are going to be in a large group starting off. It beats waiting for them to get me down to 75% before the autoB activates.
hardly. buff elixirs and gadgets to actually do something when we use them and buff all toolbelt skills, they are weak and useless for the most part. If it weren’t for HGH and condi removal no one would bother with elixirs at all! And please fixit so that engis no longer have to stack enormous amounts of might just to keep up with everyone else on the damage meter! Seriously, it’s tiresome.
Considering I’ve salvaged 4 items and they’re all 0 I agree, something must be done about the chances of getting 0 they need to change it to 1 so that we can all progress. As it stands I pretty much make more money by selling the few rares and exotics I find instead of risking getting 0. That’s what I’ll be doing from now on since they don’t listen to their playerbase about this issue.
I hate dungeons and like other thousands I bought this game because it promised I’d never have to step into one ever again! That being said even the dungeons aren’t where they should be when they made the shift in Nov 2012. They should have immediately come out with a LFG tool, immediately revamped the combat system to allow for their own trinity and immediately made it possible for condition damage and support to function properly and have meaning inside these dungeons. We’ve told them how to fix it, we’ve given them examples, even history has given them valid examples on how to fix these basic problems every other mmo has had to go thru in it’s first year. They simply aren’t listening imo.
Great question! I don’t think you and I are what they are looking for. this game is not fun and they’ve gone back on everything they’ve said. the naysayers can come in here and spin until they are dizzy but they can’t deny the facts. It’s sad! They turned this game into exactly what they said it wouldn’t be. An instance focused 1 button pressing grind system for the next level of gear!
1. I will probably never have a legendary, now that you’ve nerfed karma. I toyed with the idea pre nerf, but imagine my surprise when I started getting karma vials from completing dailies a few days after I spent most of my karma on temple armor. I will not grind 2000+ events and/or dungeons. I left that other MMO precisely because of this type of treadmill/grind.
2. I will never have ascended trinkets. I’m sitting on 62 laurels, but I am loath to spend them because I have multiple characters and I never know what wonderful changes you will implement next. I don’t want to be caught in a situation like I was with karma points, where I spend most of laurels and then you implement some change that makes them more difficult to get or they become necessary to obtain even better items. In addition to this, I only do dailies if they correspond to whatever I’m doing that day. I don’t log in to do chores, ANet.
3. I will never have ascended weapons. That is, unless the required mats build up in my bags through daily activity and leveling crafting isn’t cost prohibitive. As it stands now, leveling that one crafting discipline is cost prohibitive for me.
4. I will never have ascended armor, for reasons stated in point 3.
5. And because of 1-4, I will never participate in WvW because being at a constant disadvantage when playing against other people isn’t fun.
I log in to have fun, ANet. Not to do daily chores, not to grind, not to chase more powerful, and required gear…I log in to have fun. When I bought your game, you led me to the impression that the best gear would be easy to get at level 80, so I could spend my time doing whatever I wanted. Looks like I was wrong.
Has your philosophy regarding the type of player you’d like to retain, changed as well?
People are missing the point. Originally they stated they didn’t want gear to be a timegate issue and that their game would be different in that people weren’t thinking about gear all the time or grinding or going to the next piece they would be playing the game enjoying it. Well here we are now 1 year later exactly polar oposite of where they said they’d take this game. This has become end game no different than the run of the mill gear grind games out today aside from the leveling gathering and how people don’t have to compete for loot this game is no different than all the rest, not even in the ways they originally intended!
I have a long memory when it comes to these promises and I recall when they originally said that the gear would have no stats. Remember that? yeah…
Time gated or level gated content isn’t the slightest bit fun and I have no idea why game devs keep adding this sort of thing to the games they make. It’s a serious turn off and gives players really good reason to just move on when the next great thing comes out.
I don’t either they are simply making the posibility of the rest of the people they want to keep, leave. It really is getting that bad.
First they made ascended items from fractal vendors with the promise they’d only be for fractals and other dungeons requiring agony resist. with each new set they’ve released the scores have gotten higher. Then with the second release they made some of them available from laurels. When they realized people could easily replace their gear with ascended with laurels they then made them items you had to craft personally where the materials and the items made had to be a grind, use twice as many materials as legendaries, and could only be made by you for you.
What will they do next? The armor will most likely require the blood of a virgin, the holy grail, an unmarked one thousand dollar bill, the hat of Baron Samedi, and the Chachapoyan Fertility Idol from the first Indiana Jones movie.
so crazy… legendaries cost 4x or 5xmore than at start of the game
It’s the same for ascended gear. Originally they were going to make them items that were to be bought from fractals alone thru fractal currency alone. Then they made some of the trinkets laurels, then when they realized that wouldn’t take that long for someone to replace their entire gear set they made them a crafting item with twice as many mats as any legendary!
It’s getting really stupid now I agree. For a group of developers that claimed they don’t like people to have to grind, and that they don’t want to design a game full of grinding they sure have made it just that! I am a farmer and that’s all I choose to do in any game, and even the farmer community sees the writing on the wall! LOL
It’s far easier to farm these things by killing the enemies that drop heavy bags either in Orr or in WvW and in the frozen north. Because these items usually sell for really well you can use them to buy the ones you do need.
It’s also been stated that the only other method of receiving T6 mats is thru the crafting bags from the laurel vendor or if you have a high magic find rating, the boxes from Orr karma vendors.
Recently, there has been talk about how some characters created seem to have a higher chance of drops on the same account as other characters. If this is true you might want to use the character that has the higher percentage (only seen thru drop experience or lucky loot experiences) to farm these bags.
Keep in mind that DR is still a factor in this game so eventually you will be cutoff from drops in the area you’re farming in and if you’re unlucky enough to have been a victim of the ongoing DR bug you may incur DR for your entire account which has no visible cooldown.
Good luck getting them to see this. I’ve been complaining about this one for some time now. It’s just as bad as the ability for the PVE mobs that see me despite my being stealthed for an extended period of time and send spells and ranged attacks that hit me despite my being in stealth or using a cloak from a runeset. But they’d rather take stealth away by using ranger pets instead of fixing us outright.
The whole in combat status thing has been happening since December for me.
So there have been times where the following has happened:
1) Game does not recognize that I am out of combat leaving me unable to waypoint, have standard movement speed, and normal jumping height.
2) It does not release from combat quick enough, or this happens from anywhere between 10-30 seconds, therefore I miss content in the world (aetherblade events, etc, in the invasions).
3) The “Out Of Combat” scripting mechanism bugs and refuses to release from combat mode resulting in me having to log out and log back in again.
I truly believe that this is a “world polish” thing that needs to change. ESPECIALLY the last time. Sure I can understand it happening a couple times here and there, but when it is happening on a daily basis, it needs to be looked by the team. I have tried reporting it as a bug in game, but there is no category to report it under. This has also been happening for a year now.
Has this been happening to anyone else? Does anyone know what I am talking about? Has there been comment on this subject in the past by Arenanet?
Completely agree with you there. If we are going to lose stealth where is the compensation of all of the things this class lacks?
doesn’t need stealth ? are u joke ? how u defeat a engi/necro/war without stealth ? if u can it just because they are nooooooooooooooooooooooooobs . what’s your pvp rank ? if not above 45 , u can’t talking about fighting , and the most important is , there is no 1 v 1 fighting in wvw , how can u escape without stealth?
as any other profession. i think put stealth in this game was a bug mistake. ranger sword is a playstyle what i can immagine to a thief. more agility and less stealth and blind to the thieves. (and mesmers)
As any other profession? so thieves should get access to multiple invulnerability mechanics, access to blocking skills, higher base hp, much much greater boon access, access to protection, access to stability? all the things thieves lack and give up for 3 seconds of stealth
Absolutely not! Some classes rely on this for tanky builds and since there is no block mechanic in this game like other games and protection is only 30% defense there’s really no other option. There are plenty of ways of taking retal off your enemies and or letting them use them up and be on CD before you all out attack them you just have to pay attention while fighting.
Alter retaliation
Retaliation can be kept at 100% quite easily (for some classes), and it’s not hard to give a zerg constant retaliation. Retaliation deals fixed damage per attack, so it’s extremely effective against multi hit attacks. Many classes/builds will have to avoid using most of their abilities, because they receive much more damage than they dish out. Casting a few grenades into a retaliation buffed zerg is suicide.
Fast attacks don’t have any massive advantage to make up for this. Critical hit effects all have long cooldowns, which most slow hitting weapons with some crit chance will close to maximize anyways.
Blindness and Aegis is another advantage where fast attacks are ideal. However, you can counter aegis by simply not opening with one of your best attacks. Blindess can be countered by using #1 attack a single time.
Retaliation have no real counters (boon stripping is very limited), and they give a too big buff to zerging.
Possible way to fix retaliation:
1. Retaliation should be based on damage dealt. It does not need to be proportional to damage, but the fast weak attacks should in no way get the kind of retaliation damage they currently get.
2. It should also be harder to stack retaliation for a large group. This could be achieved by distinguishing single target stacked retaliation from area stacked retaliation. Keep that retaliation can stack 5 times in duration, but that only 2/3 of those can come from area retaliation. Either that, or give area boons a limit to how many can be affected (this may introduce some unwanted rng factor).
Why Retaliation is not like Confusion
Just before people start arguing that confusion is not OP and basically the same as retaliation, so reta. It’s not. Before you cast an ability, you can check wether you have any confusions on you. It’s alot harder to check the enemy targets if they carry retaliation (AoE), and conditions are feasible to remove. It is very easy for a zerg to have perma retaliation. The “opposite”, which consists of applying confusion to enemy, is much less effective.
Welcome to mmo’s
Everyone uses this system. Basically what most of us have done for years on slower connections is set it to download the game or updates overnight, that way we’re not sitting there staring at a bar.
I haven’t seen it yet. I would agree major events shouldn’t be the soul purpose of the LFG we should be able to post for general PVE
And I agree with party vote kicking it worked well in other games without it tho there’s this tendency for people to get rid of incoming players by class I’m sure.
As far as mouseover zone information?! I’ve been asking for that ever since other titles new titles have come out with it. The ability to look at the map and see the events happening over the entire zone would have been much better than looking at the map and seeing nothing!
We shouldn’t be relying on map chat to know which events are up I agree!
(edited by tigirius.9014)
basically what you’re reading is they have a long long way to go to fix all of the classes other than warrior and guardian because they all have had glaring design flaws that the two favorites don’t have to contend with on a daily basis, flaws that for the most part the devs have ignored.
Oh and don’t mistake complaining for not liking, the people who complain love the game and love their characters. People who hate the game actually aren’t here nor do they bother posting to the forums. That’s a typical misconception.
What I find funny is I’m still getting those useless sub level 80 transmute stones!!!? Tell me how that helps my character in any way? LOL
Elixir kit
Mine kit
Sniper Kit – wouldn’t be so much a kit using skills from other weapons but a new one all it’s own.
Toolkit : The Purple Nurple (see image below)
Anyone else have some funny ones they’ve thought of?
They seriously just need to buff gadgets and elixirs and then they could give each kit spell effect their own cooldown and revert some of them back to what they were before. (because a tiny snot ball is not what EG should be honestly!)
I personally think they’ve been a bit stingy on the boons with us it would be nice if there were traits to allow for the creation of boons from more than just two elixirs direct uses (not toolbelts). Also the minitrait that supposedly converts incoming conditions into boons I’ve never seen work once not once in this whole year + of playing maybe they need to fix that 8% so it finally is useful.
Gadgets could use some serious work in the boons department too! We shouldn’t have to rely on might building to do the damage other classes do without blinking. There is no symetry in this class like there is in my thief traits for example.
But you know I’ve given them multiple ideas on how to fix these things as well as examples on how these things are handled on other classes (like the serious lack of burst damage on this class we’re still a hybrid at best) and a long long list of enhancements to the entire game including the ui, they didn’t listen to those things can’t imagine them listening now.

It’s true and to further add to your argument the design flaws were enhanced when they weakened kit spell effects instead of buffing the elixirs and the gadgets as well as the toolbelt versions of these skills.
If they did that it would improve the engineer all around so that all choices would be equally valuable instead of us being forced into an all elixir all kit build especially for PVE.
One of the worst offenders for me, since performance is so erratic anyway, is actually the frame limiter. Anyone know what I’m talking about?..
Okay, here, try to spot what’s wrong with this picture:
1. Random Map A.
Frame limiter disabled = 65 FPS
Frame limiter at 60 = 40 FPS
Frame limiter at 30 = 20 FPS2. Random Map B.
Frame limiter disabled = 40 FPS
Frame limiter at 60 = 59 FPS
Frame limiter at 30 = 12 FPSSpot the problem there?..
They further have a memory leak. It’s cropped back up again on my machine. I’m using a 32bit windows and they are blaming that. But guess what this never happens on much more memory hungry games like STO or NWO I never get memory error crashes on those titles and I have their graphics turned all the way up. My frame rates are much much better than those on GW2! The worlds do look better but the space phenom and the special effects of the weapons and the shininess and patterns on the hulls of the ships both in and out of battle make for a much more difficult memory hungry experience in these games than in GW2. So, gotta ask the question, why is this not been fixed? why is this bug back? The only other time I experienced random memory error crashes were just after launch of this 1 game.
“Ive sort of come to the conclusion that, like Blizzard, Arenanet is conditioning us.
Warning: a bit of a wall.
TLDR; We are conditioned by Arenanet to play only for rewards, and not for the sake of playing. This is because they pump the game full of rewards, checklists, achievements, minis, and shinies. They use this word “reward” often in order to trigger this type of behavior.”
And yet today many of us on the overflow of TC were talking about how even with the changes to the difficulty of 1 open world boss, they still haven’t learned how to balance the level of content with the level of the reward everyone should receive when fighting such things. It’s STILL to this day even with all of the positive changes coming down the bend, a game where the rewards do NOT match the activities!
they’ve been useless for a year now. LOL who are you kidding? they’ve been made so that there’s a maximum stack so of course people are going to be cutoff from actually doing a well preserved DPS.
What we need is to remove the stack maximum, or make it so that each individual players condition damage output is taken into account. Also, they need to remove the tendency for condition damage from every class and make it occur only on two of the types of trait lines when started at grandmaster. Activate these conditions at the grandmaster level of the trait lines in every class that chooses either the condition damage bonus line or the condition duration bonus line that way burst damage builds will never use the condition damage types and rely solely on burst like they’ve focused their gear on, meanwhile those who use condition builds would be fewer and their conditions would actually be the primary conditions on enemies like bosses and the like from then on.
