The Quarterly report from NcSoft, which is a publicly held company, shows that Guild Wars 2 is doing fine.
Your comments about an expansion don’t make much sense from a business perspective.
Right now, Anet is giving away content every 2 weeks. They’d sell an expansion. MMOs often come out with expansions when there’s less interest in their game to bring people back to the game and to get some more money to fund future development. The fact that Anet isn’t doing an expansion is evidence of the fact that they’re doing okay.
I suspect a good percentage of their profits are from the cash shop.
Thanks Vayne.
1. As Vayne points out, their public financial statements show that GW2 is meeting their financial targets (translation – it’s profitable for them).
2. Arenanet has hired people within its first year. Other recent MMOs have laid off people within the first year. No company is going to hire people to support an unprofitable product. So yes, GW2 is doing well financially.
BioWare was hiring right through the layoffs… it’s all about getting the type of staffing you need, not quantity.
GW2 is a small game… it’s fine, it has it’s niche, it is well-run, well-engineered. But it simply isn’t a great MMO nor is it ever going to have the impact on the genre or players or mainstream than WoW has had.
And there’s nothing wrong with that, unless you’re a player looking to invest the next 5-10 years in a game and would like alot more depth and content than is currently being provided.
Well engineered certainly well run is another matter entirely. So far all I’ve seen is one PR thing after another trying to catchup instead of actually performing the expectations that we all bought this game for originally but suddenly changed after as if their audience changed, it didn’t.
Anet has been jerking us around with half -/ assed temporary content for a year now and you are all complaining that something PERMANENT to work for is being added to the game. I don’t think this community has it’s priorities straight.
Gear treadmill isn’t content. LS and the treadmill are two separate concerns entirely but both were items of contention.
LS was never meant to be temporary, they did say they’d add new story content however it was never meant to last 1 month or be completed in 1 day per update, we were to see new permanent additions to DE’s and metas, not what LS has been thus far.
And gear whether it’s permanently added or not, shouldn’t be a new tier. It should be the same tier as Exotic if they were to stay true to their prelaunch interviews.
They said they wouldn’t add any statistically better gear that takes a long time to acquire. Ascended is what they were saying wouldn’t be added.
Yep, and we railed against it in November when they proposed it. Just because it took almost half a year to get it out doesn’t make it any less against their original proposed game nor does it change the fact that most people who bought their game did so under the pretense that it was to be unlike all of the other mmos out there in these aspects. (including having no gear progressions whatsoever).
That’s what I’m seeing OP.
Right but until the patch comes out, no one will know. People will know exactly as much as you do right now.
I’m pretty sure that those on the devs testing team will know and that’s who I’m directing this question to.
The devs hardly ever answer questions like this. You’re probably better off waiting until the patch is out and then finding out yourself.
As usual that’s too late, I’d like to know now so I don’t waste my time coming back to the game if it’s not going to be an improvement overall. That’s the purpose of any question I post, and I’m sure I’m not alone with wanting to know a little more detail about it because I know I’m not the only one to have loot problems in this title.
I’m willing to bet someday when people get really good at him, less than 80 people will be able to pull it off, that tends to be how anything works in an MMO. It’s balanced for 80 average players though though and scales up into the hundreds because we want to make epic, large scale encounters available to players out in the open world. We’ll have a mix of a lot of different types of encounters as we continue to update our boss and world encounters, but Tequatl specifically is intended to go for the epic scale.
The idea is we’re going to make him hard, and require a lot of players, he needs to have rewards that make that time worthwhile. In the next update the same philosophy will apply to the karka queen, who will get a bump to her rewards as well given her difficulty; her base line player number is much lower than 80.
Extra bonus info: The highest chance of having a rare chance ascended weapon for you is on Tequatl’s daily bonus chest if you defeat him: game on.
You are aware that with this change, Tequatl will go the way of the Karka Queen. People will attempt Tequatl a time or two, fail the event and will never go back to that encounter again. It doesn’t matter what quality of loot he drops. People don’t want to bang their heads against their desks. People want to succeed. WoW tried something very similar with ‘Oondasta’. It was a colossal failure.
So did Rift with one of their colossal enemies before the change to F2P. They wanted to change up the system and make it harder when they had problems with the combat system already in place that they never addressed, it turned into a massive failure if I recall.
I think the age old argument of “fix what’s there now before you bring in something new” can apply this title. Fix boss/champ immunity to CC, fix the condition damage inconsistent damage types, fix the maximum stacks of condition damage, fix healing and you’ll actually have the proposed Arenanet-trinity prior to this boss model being released so that more people will get involved. Most especially we’ll need to see a fix to the rewards system prior as well because when bosses, chests, etc are affected by the loot Wi Flag system or DR nobody wins.
T7 ore/cloth/leather is crafted using lower tier ore/cloth/leather.
The other T7 materials are obtained by completing dragon events, temples and defeating champions. Since you need 500 of each of these per ascended item, I’m assuming each event/bag drops a set amount, which is hopefully adjusted based on difficulty (something they are now starting to do, beginning with Tequatl). How many is dropped is unknown. Obtaining these items will probably take you longer than the time gates required to fully craft an ascended item, which is 9 days or 5 if you trade.
T7 blood/fangs/etc and lodestones do not exist. T6 blood/fangs/etc is needed to create T6 inscriptions which is used to make T7 inscriptions.
Here’s to hoping they drop with a set amount because I’m sure even those without the loot problems some of us have experienced are tired of RNG.
I’d hoped they’d make it so that the amount dropped is universal so long as you participate.
Right but until the patch comes out, no one will know. People will know exactly as much as you do right now.
I’m pretty sure that those on the devs testing team will know and that’s who I’m directing this question to.
I have to stop playing grenadier regularly to preserve the tendons in my wrists.
That should tell you something.
This, I’ve been playing my engi 80 for a month now and my arms hurts a bit more everyday, something needs to be done about this.
People tried to tell them about it months ago, don’t see a change coming anytime soon. They say it would be too much of an advantage but they already have a 1 shot wonder when it comes to rifles on warriors so really who’s fooling who about what’s an advantage here?
How can anyone answer this?
Easy they can post to this thread with an answer and I think it’s a very valid one. Some of us are STILL being affected by this Wi Flag problem while some of us left there are still people playing holding on to the hope that someone will address it. It’s not an invalid question at all. These items can’t be sold so why cut people off from them?

I wouldn’t say they’re giving away content considering it always has an attachment of either tools cosmetics or boxes that all cost real money to obtain. If we went by what you said just now they’d have 0 money coming in and wouldn’t be doing good at all. So don’t fool yourself they are charging.
I’d like to know if the figures were A: as high as they projected or B: anywhere near what NCsoft expects.
Q: Will the new resources for crafting be affected by the loot algorithm problem that some of our accounts were experiencing where we’d get almost nothing every time we tried to farm anything even at the very beginning or even when we were just doing regular events in the open world? Will it be affected by DR?
Because I’d hate to come back to the game and find that not only is this still happening preventing me from getting to 500 as a crafter but that it’s now happening with account bound items from events across the world!
I skimmed over the messages in this thread and didn’t see anyone talk about this..
If the ascended weapons were not time gated, the economic impact of the mad rush of people trying to make them on the first day would be overwhelming.
I suggest that this is likely the most important rationale for it.
Is that not the fault of the developers making it so that there will only be one avenue to getting these weapons? They even said several times with all of the other Ascended item discussions that they want players to be able to obtain the gear in several ways, and yet they keep releasing them with one way to get them.
The game is now on single path.
In the end, introducing one “true way” and one “crap way” is not really good.
They just removed “crap way” out of the picture.
Oh, btw, some things will “drop full ascended weapons”. Guess “crap way” is not out of the picture lol, but you better have been winning lottery/gambling a lot if you hope to actually get one (…cough…precursors…cough…)
Totally agree there. We’ll see some people get like multiple ascended weapons off bosses because they still haven’t addressed the lopsided loot algorithm that these same people were using to get all of the big loot from dungeon runs or exploiting the chest from the karka queen original event. Mark my words. Meanwhile the people who are still suffering from this bug/design flaw will continue to be stuck with nothing from mobs. I think the only way we’ll see a change is if someone slips up and it starts to affect everyone.
I’m hoping someone over there had the good sense to tell the game to keep these resources that are account bound to not be affected by loot role algorithms or by DR so that people can actually get these crafting materials! here’s to hoping.
I actually think it’s great for the classes with pets because it makes people think twice before using continuous stuns.
Anet has this thing for making pet AIs as dumb as a box of rocks so all classes with pets seem to have the same issues, they run into enemies when they shouldn’t, stand there when they should be fighting, or generally don’t do enough damage to actually have a concern to use them. All pets in my experience in this game have been like that, Turrets, Ranger pets, Summons, guess which classes this affects the most in everything important including esports, dungeons, and group world events? yeah.
That’s why when they posted the aniversary % numbers of which class was played the most, some of us were asking to post which ones per which category, WvW, PVP, or PVE to show that in PVE it hurts the most.
completely agree, whatever happened to “we don’t like to make it a grind” ? well getting to yet another max of crafting is not only an insult to the people who already spent time getting to max it’s and insult to the rest of the community that believed in you.
400 is the cap atm the are pushing it to 500 and now there a reason to be a craftier other then to level up alts.
you mean besides the fact of already being at max and making your own gear?
let’s clarify so now you think that crafting was not necessary to make the exotic gear, previously the max gear anyone could get, or be able to make all of the enchantments that go with it because they added a new tier which was completely unnecessary and instead of actually making the appropriate changes to the T6 mats to make them account bound and available from nodes and activities already in game like other games have done, they’ve made a whole new tier of T7 mats to make people have to grind even more (because there wasn’t enough grind in the game already) to get to a new max?
Did I cover everything?
You do not need crafting to get the “max” gear even after the update it just a chose that a player can make. But up to this point craftier had no reason to level up crafting other then for the free exp to level up.
Since the current update is weapons let’s talk about that. You can get one by crafting — or as a rare drop. Given that:
- The chance to get onto the rare table is small
- Once you’re on the rare table, you’ve got a better chance to get an event item you don’t want than a rare, a rare than an exotic — and maybe an exotic than an Ascended
- If the perfect storm happens and you get an Ascended weapon box drop, what are the odds you’ll get the stats you want?
are drops a realistic means to get an Ascended weapon?
Well you do not know nor do i.
Its pointless to even stress over the fact with out the update being there.
As things stand you can play the game with out Ascended items so all of this seems a lot of nothing but means of coming back to a game that some ppl more then likely have not played and try to say bad things about it. tigirius is an example of this type of player not to say he not been playing the game or has but they have not been on these forums for some time but NOW that there is something to complainer about they are back so i would take most of this argument with a very very big gran of salt.
My absence neither invalidates my concerns nor makes you correct in the slightest and straw man arguments aren’t going to improve your credibility. Since the update is being talked about I assumed that the devs wanted to hear from the people who paid them money for the original content of this game (as well as the original promises made about it’s future which is where they’re sales came from btw) so that they can hear everyone’s voice in the process of fine tuning the update in question.
you’ve got a great point there OP.
If we were to believe that this game wasn’t end game oriented, or that you don’t have to rush to the end or the fallacy that Anet did it differently in saying but not actually making the game require max level to enjoy it or completely forgetting that they wanted to include the entire world originally by adding permanent new content and having downscaling to zones in the first place, then they’d make these types of things happen in zones that are not level 80 and don’t require exotic gear to participate in.
By making it harder they might just be reinforcing that problem.
now this I agree with simply because of the lack of action taken against all those people who exploited the queens treasure during the island event, one of the biggest contributors to the ever increasing prices in the TP since headstart.
It would eliminate the need for them and take them right out of the market for any real gold and it would make those who did that exploit pay for breaking the economy the way they have for months now.
snip
I didn’t completely answer your question when you asked me the same thing so I thought about it a bit more.
The biggest difference I see between the EotN skills and Ascended gear is that the skills did not replace something that players previously did or earned. They did not make anything else purchased obsolete. While some people may feel Exotics are cheap and easy to obtain, not everyone feels that way and is one of the reasons they may complain about the added vertical progression.
Another thing is that the PvE skills were named that because they were not allowed in any form of PvP. That is also not the case for Ascended gear and is why some of the WvW crowd is upset. Especially as that gear was not available at the same time in that game mode.
The last thing that came to mind is that GW1 was very dependent on specific builds. Some builds took advantage of PvE skills, others did not. Gear is not optional. Everyone has to wear it. It will affect every event, challenge, build decision, etc. Many outcomes and decisions are impacted by a gear change.
I’ll see if I can stir up any additional thoughts.
Anet seperated PvP into WvW and SPvP and said, from the very beginning, WvW was never meant to be balanced. That’s why gear is allowed in WvW.
I don’t think exotics are so expensive that it’s such an issue that we have to replace them…particularly because the content doesn’t require it to be replaced.
As for the skills in Guild Wars 1…they were still more neccesary (or at least they’ll make a bigger difference in the long term, than ascended weapons will.
Thats why youll see “transended” weapons next year. Its a gear tremill, no point in denying it.
Sorry but without the content requiring the upgrade it’s not a treadmill. If I don’t need that gear to play the game…then it’s not a treadmill.
I played Rift. I needed a specific amount of focus to queue for a dungeon. Not to beat it…to queue for it.
That’s why I say it’s not a treadmill. In games with gear treadmills there’s a new tier of gear every 3-4 months. If Anet introduced a tier of gear every year and a half, slowly in stages, I wouldn’t call it a treadmill.
I would. Because one treadmill is set at a shallower incline than the other one does not make it “not a treadmill.” People get on real treadmills not because they want to go somewhere, but because they want a result — usually, cardio. A lot of them dislike the process (reading or listening to music to distract themselves), but they want the result.
It’s not about needing the gear, either. It’s about keeping the players who can go to other games to feed their playstyle, while hoping that the ones who don’t want this crap will stay anyway, because there’s nowhere else to go. Don’t you defend so many aspects of GW2 so vehemently because this game gives you enjoyment you cannot find in other games? So, you don’t value having BiS gear. There are people who do.
To me, a gear treadmill is when they keep introducing statistically better gear to the game. If Ascended is the highest it gets to and we don’t see a new level cap with better gear 6 months down the line, its fine.
If in 6 months they go ‘Oh, we got Heroic gear now guys’, then its gonna be GW2, meet
the delete key.
That was the same argument we heard months ago when they introduced the concept of higher stats on legendary, it’s still not anymore true today then it was in 2012.
It’s a treadmill when :
A: you have to work for another set of gear that wasn’t there before
B: the gear you’re working towards improves your overall performance in ANY aspect of the game (ie WvW)
C: you have to work towards the next set of crafting/gathering materials to get there.
If it walks like a treadmill and talks like a treadmill, it’s a treadmill. The fact remains and the naysayers cannot stand to hear this I know, is that this wasn’t part of the game because originally they were against the treadmill entirely Exotic was IT. Then it wasn’t even two months later they decided to add another tier of gear and wait a few months (because they knew that even more people might leave while the community was up in arms about these changes) to reveal them and reveal what you had to do to get them.
This is history folks. It’s sad that some people can’t see what’s really happening here.
The real tragedy is that people are still playing with blinders on instead of actually speaking their mind to the devs to have them change it, no one ever made a difference by just sitting around going “oh well, they got us, hyuck hyuck I still enjoy the game, can i have more punishment for my faith in you please?!” smh
and require more than just mindlessly shooting at his foot
How?
I have missed the beginning of the stream, so I’m wondering if there’s any mechanic I haven’t seen yet. But from what I saw, the new mechanics are:
1. Turrets around the dragon. The (rather cute) QA girl mentioned they are not really needed to defeat Teq, and they don’t appear to make much of a difference. They remind me of the Shatterer and Jormag turrets, that no one care about.
2. Sometimes the dragons teleport players to underwater, where they take damage over time if they don’t swim up. Since people can just swim up and go back to the fight, doesn’t look like much to me.
3. There’s a new wave attack that people can jump over. It looks like it does damage, but nothing too complex.
…And that’s it? The other mechanics (bone walls, the fingers, the fear-inducing breath) were there already.
I have seen in the stream a couple groups trying and failing to kill Teq – which is a good thing, we want challenging content – but not because they weren’t coordinated enough or didn’t multitask important things while doing damage to the dragon or anything like that, no; rather because they didn’t do enough damage to what is basically a massive damage sponge.
Was there more to the fight, something I missed from the earlier comments? Or is this something like the HotW boss fights, just doing a lot of damage to a sponge?
If this is true than really they didn’t do anything cept add an annoying mechanic to it (teleporting people underwater when everyone is wearing masks? uhm anyone else see a problem with this?)
Ultimately doesn’t look like it will change much. The drops will still be based off of DPS which means no one is going to care about rezzing their fellow players because in lowering your DPS you’re cutting off your chance at the highest gear drops.
Group mechanics will most likely be ignored, like why should anyone lay down AOEs to help with the adds when they’ll likely miss the main boss which lowers ones DPS and lowers the chance for an ascended drop?
CC doesn’t work on anything because most likely the adds will have the defense against that so why bother CCing anything coming at you?
And I agree why even bother with the turrets?
So basically what we need to see is take out the teleport thing, it doesn’t even makes sense. Replace that with mobs that are affected by CC. Allow a counter for the number of times someone rezes someone in this encounter to account towards a temporary drop buff that is on until the end of the battle so that if someone is DCd during the fight and comes back when the boss is dead and checks the chest they won’t be missing anything.
This would fix the problems with the missing Anet trinity group mechanics in this fight, it will encourage coop and it would make the fight more than just about who has the most burst damage.
three things need to happen to the engineer to bring it back to the PVE balance it had at the beginning of the game:
1: trait redux entirely so that it’s actually an adventurer class with clear skills for dps and burst dps improvements across the board.
2: the restoration of the original condition damage figures that were changed prior to november and prior to their separating the changes between PVE and PVP when attempting to balance the game.
3: if the traits aren’t fixed the only alternative is to make engis a heavy armor soldier class like they were originally thought of before the game launched so that they have enough defense to be viable again without having to stack buffs.
Until they do that engis will continue to be second class in this game in PVE doesn’t matter how many bug fixes they come out with until they fix the PVE figures it’s useless and it doesn’t matter how many times leetists claim the L2P mantra it will still remain true for the class.
It’s literally so noticeable that new players have commented on having stopped playing the class when they’ve reached level 50 because something happens to the damage ratios at that point that makes the class take three times as long to kill anything so they move on to something else.

A lot of people are busy farming the new invasions and saving up for the new ascended items.
Things will be back to normal eventually.
I’ve heard that one before. and sadly since we don’t have concrete numbers outside of the full/not full pings on the server list there’s really no way to tell factually however some of us suspect it’s a SWTOR situation with the 1.3 million active subscribers thing.

sadly it is too late.
They started down this track in november 2012.
A track of completely throwing out all of the things that they said not only they wouldn’t do but also the things they said would be in the game.
the power creep is here people, people kept denying it would come but it’s here. Will they still be in denial when ascended becomes the old gear and they add yet another tier because they want people to farm longer for the materials to make that with a crafting skill of 600?
@poster above last I’d say it really depends. I remember sometime at the start of the invasions, around midnight one day we at UW had an army rampaging around the Gandara (I think) home world taking every keep as if they’re champs because everyone was playing the invasions.
Was good cos that’s how I got my WvW map comp
And it’s a good solution for PvE I think, because simply that there isn’t a better one as people always respond to rewards.
As for WvW, it’s a good response but personally I think anything PvP-related should be always focused purely on the fun factor rather than rewards, because the moment you put rewards in it, exploits arise and out goes the fun factor.
basically what’s going to happen is people will only be killing the easy champs and bosses in Orr now just to get the ore. Nothings changing, it’s just more of the same. whereas before people were only killing certain bosses in Orr to farm karma.
The design flaws that made me leave the game:
~ rewards are on a DPS point only (there goes the support part of the Anet trinity right there)
~ rewards are distributed solely in groups if you try to solo rewards drop to almost nothing (even in large guilds people aren’t doing the exact same things constantly in mmo’s people do solo and should never ever be penalized for it)
~ poor spec choices due to inconsistant damage (condition damage was nerfed globally just after launch, they never fixed that and it was long before they did the separation between PVE PVP code, so classes with heavy reliance on condition damage types have suffered ever since)
~ Boss immunity to CC. (another part of the Anet trinity gone)
~ need for an extreme magic find number to get ANYTHING to drop (300+)
~ a system of RNG as the sole means for crafting end game items (yes i saw their post about coming changes here’s to hoping)
~ lack of permanent new DEs and permanent new metas world wide, no more focusing people in one area 100% of the time.
~ waiting on a boss to show 1hr10 min post the time for an event to start
~ the lack of investigation into the ongoing Wi Flag loot bug that coupled with the DR system cuts some people off from ever getting any meaningful loot
~ the removal of great items like rares and exotics from open world chests of any kind much less the jump puzzle chests or those guarded by champions.
So here’s to hoping with their renewed discussion with the players that they’ll actually make the proper changes and help bring this game back around to their original vision.
I agree OP and I’m now watching because of their proposed changes.
I agree with most here, it’s not a solution to the problem and will mostly likely cause more. Making only certain bosses be farmed to death even more due to there being a certain item needed for crafting isn’t a solution. It’s akin to the problems of the power creep in other games where they had to create some place that was “dangerous” for people to go get the items (like fishing in Open pvp area in WoW) where it turned into a system of exploiting to farm the item needed. It’s not different in this time.
You can find the article here:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/guild-wars-2-the-first-year/
So, yeah. He’s again talking about “world-changing events” and how the Living story changes the world constantly. Where are these world-changing events? I wouldn’t categorize LS updates as “major releases” either.
I find this bit ironic:
We had railed against traditional MMO mechanics like quest chains that force the world to be static and unchanging, and instead had built a world full of dynamic events where players working together can actually change the state of the world.
Where are these events that actually change the state of the world? Centaurs capturing a camp which then gets captured back 20 minutes later?
And before you say “they’re coming”, remember that this was a retrospective post about the 1st year of Guild Wars 2. Not a look into the future.
Also lol @ the “more votes cast than in the 2012 Czech presidential election”. Could they vote as many times as they wanted?
I too thought this was a bit overboard for a PR post but hey that’s part of the industry today, gotta make people believe in your product yeah know.
If all of that energy and creativity were taken from the marketing/PR department and actually put into the design flaws of the current state of the game and fixing the mistakes made over the past year imagine what the game would be like now.
the world is too temporary for me. the LS content didn’t come anywhere close to what was said before the game was launched about how the open world would be the central focus of the updates or how they’d be permanent and span the whole world not just centralized places or fractals.
There were multiple reasons for me to stop playing and the LS content being as it is was one of them. I’m now watching to see if they fix all of the current problems that caused me to leave to see if/when it’s safe to come back.
So I’ve been looking for the post by Linsey and John posted about making T7 materials while crafting and making the items available outside of dungeons can someone clarify because I can’t see to find the link to that but I’m seeing vague reports about it on game sites?
I’m curious because I haven’t seen enough details about this.
There is talk about fine and masterwork being improved to make items for T7 manufacturing to both improve crafting and improve the problems associated with the economy.
Does this mean that anyone who can farm materials for fine and masterwork tiers would be able to make rare tier 7 materials of all kinds? Or does this mean that the new T7 materials needed to make the higher end items will not come from resource nodes? (the equivalent of the T6 materials some people were cutoff from finding in the open world like lodestones for example)
Just for some perspective. Three things made me leave this game in disgust. The Wi-Flag-algorithm-of-loot/DR-being-on-all-the-time on all of my toons preventing me from gaining any of the high end materials for crafting or gaining gold. The lack of balance on PVE for engineers including the condition damage problems leading to lack of diversity in builds and skills that don’t reflect an adventurer style class (rather a soldier even tho it still wears leather). And temporary content that one has to feel rushed to complete before the next tier of content makes the previous tier obsolete never to be seen again save for a dungeon in which one must wear the newest next tier armor to see if you’ve missed even 1 month.
Go to any other games forums right now, and you’ll not see a single post about this issue in those other mmo’s, not a single post.
So you’re saying if we take away legendary weapons completely that the game will be better? Otherwise there’s very little difference between GW loot and loot in other games like WoW.
No I’m saying that if you actually look at the problem, even a small portion of the population getting nothing each and every time they login and do the exact same activities as anyone else in the game is unacceptable and is not randomness even in a mathematical sense.
No other game has this trouble right now because even in the games that are roughly five years old, they’ve looked at both their algorithms and their loot tables and found and fixed these problems.
Further in games that use a drop improvement code like magic find, you’ll find that not only does it dramatically improve what you get but it also doesn’t do what happens in this game which is suddenly make most items go white or grey or nothing at all, like the DR is intermingling with it. It’s also a fact that almost no one in the mmo industry uses DR anymore even for bots, so that adds to the problems when the game is calculating what you get.
So basically because they are using an unconventional system in their loot system, and because their magic find has yet to work properly it tends to cause more issues than it fixes and they’ve yet to adequately fix the problem that doesn’t exist in other titles.
It’s just pseudo random.
You will never convince ANet or anyone else that your aren’t just unlucky.
I expect that sometime in the distant future ANet will uncover a bug with the loot table that causes some people to get multiple precursors and other people to get nothing.
That’s been my experience as well OP. Unfortunately they are unwilling to look at the problem.
I’m not sure if this is a PR stunt but it really REALLY looks like it. Two articles came out recently saying that players were complaining that gold was too easy to farm, so I decided to come here and check that out. It’s obvious these articles were PR stunts imo because it looks like the same problem that made me leave the game is still here! I call it the lopsided loot algorithm, where two people doing the same things will get the same type of loot over and over, 1 will get nothing, and one will get everything and it will happen each time the same. But you have some people on here (which I suspect are really working for Anet, or they are just blind) that continue to put forth the fail argument that this is how RNG works. It’s not and they know it. Then they compound the issue with DR.
Go to any other games forums right now, and you’ll not see a single post about this issue in those other mmo’s, not a single post.
This problem is unique to this game right now which further proves there’s something wrong that they aren’t taking care of in their bug department for whatever the reason is.
So I just read something that was awesome about another game title and wondered why with the tech they are using in this game was it not possible to make this happen.
The bosses on this other game just randomly show up in the world. All over the world in various locations.
There’s no waiting time, no timers for them appear, they just poof fly in and bam attack whatever is around until players come together to destroy it.
Wouldn’t this have been a better model then having a designation location for a boss to show and then have people standing around waiting for him to show up 1 hour after the time he’s supposed to show?
I do hope they add fishing to the game sometime before the war is over. Cheers!
spsssh I doubt it, It would be nice tho, haven’t had a good fishing system in any mmo since WoW.
They lied to us saying they loved legit farmers and then absolutely nothing to fix DR or to fix the problems with the loot system that gives 1 guy everything while giving another guy nothing doing the same events weekly. (a kind of Wi Flag situation). They still haven’t fixed either one, nor have they fixed the retro they still haven’t given people for their achievements they loaded into the game (I for one made thousands of salvages since the time they promised to revamp the system up till now, does the new achievement system show that? no) They still haven’t fixed that the mobs temporarily created for defend events actually ADD to your DR rating and cut you off from loot even from events!
It’s basic psychology. People like to feel rewarded when they do something and this game is so lacking in that regard it’s not funny anymore.
They bought the game when it was hyped. They have access and these Bi-weekly updates are starting to look rather attractive.
The fatal flaw?
The combat is still doesn’t make sense. The gear treadmill exists only in the late game. Silly spells that say things like “Puts random debuffs on the target every second”. Who even knows or cares about things like that.
These bi-weeklies have potential to make this game great. However they do need to swallow their pride and fix what drove away the masses in the first place.
There’s so much to fix but before they can they have to admit these problems exist. Not really sure that’s going to happen at this point.
I guess the one thing we can take away from this is that some people don’t know the difference between marketing and promises
Something can’t be both?
and some people think that a company that makes an MMO will not try different things or change things around if things aren’t working.
A total revision of their vision for the game less than 2 months into it? A vision that was a major selling point for the game. Thats a sign of panic. Not to mention that they refuse to own up to it.
Agreed. Just like when they made fun of the playerbase the for the first set of noticeable loot issues (which still haven’t been completely looked at or addressed because of the sizeable difference between the haves and havenots in this game due to the consistant 95% of the time system of either getting everything or getting nothing while playing the same exact events in the same groups every week as guildies often do) there has been no apology, no talk of going back to their roots and giving the people what they bought the game for in the first place, freedom to actually play how they want and a literal focus on the entire open world, a combat system that isn’t a repeat spam system that is balanced thruout, etc etc.
People can argue for them all they want and try to discredit those of us who noticed this is not what we signed on for, but they can’t change the facts that just 1 month into the game they completely cutoff loot, and just 2 months into the game they completely changed their focus. Just look at the voting system they have now, deciding which items go into fractals??? seriously that’s what they think we’d like to see? That alone proves they haven’t read anything in these forums for a whole year now.
Better than the third coming of Kormir. Kiel is working hard to replace Trahearne as our token credit stealing NPC ally.
Seriously?
Why can’t people understand that as players, we do not want what they’re getting!. If we were the ones that attained godhood, the game would be over. Nothing more to do. If we were the ones that led the Pact, the chara would be so busy leading we’d get to do nothing. If we were the ones that were being pushed for Captain’s Council, we’d be embroiled in internal politics and stuff and not get to have fun.
We don’t want that stuff. We want to play the game. Those charas are made to take those roles as, as a player, those rewards are not rewards at all.
Completely agree with your last statement, they aren’t rewards at all. Fractals? Yeah because the entire body of people who spent money on purchasing this game bought it because Fractals were introduced, riiiiight.
And one of the biggest insults I think is the limited time cost elimination to the teleporters. These npc’s aren’t real so keeping the money flowing to a necessary system of travel because you don’t allow mounts and you barely allow sustainable faster running speeds just doesn’t make sense in a game where even with a 40% food buff to coin you still manage to take home pennies in the only dungeon that actually offers some coin.
My friends and I all agree, if they actually put forth a real vote where:
- Side 1: being all for open world permanent DE’s monthly, elimination permanently of the teleport costs, with the elimination of RNG and the implementation of karma vendors for T6 mats.
- Side 2: being all for dungeon/fractal revamps to make them all the hardest they can be, RNG boxes galore, and all future cosmetics being store bought in sets or from RNG boxes forever more.
We’d definitely see the winner in 1 cold second. My friends and I both agree, this vote is rigged and we don’t think they could handle a real vote because it might take out things that they want to keep in there or have to due to some agreement with someone somewhere.
Be careful, someone might come on here and claim you don’t know what you’re saying, or that you are completely off topic, or some other such nonsensical attack on your personal ethical standards when it comes to business when you point out things like that OP.
Despite the naysayers again coming onto this thread and claiming what is not true about the design of this title and the methods they are still using for the acquisition of both wealth along with the problems they’ve allowed to continue with the loot system and the DR (bugs or not they are still in the game) I can say you are spot on about everything you’ve posted OP.
ie. we were told DR would be ajusted in the open world so that it wouldn’t have and impact on farmers because they love farmers, we were told greens and blue would be made viable for salvaging and that they’d change how salvaging works so that more T6 materials that were previously more rare than clean water in a desert would be collectable, I watched as they made items exclusive and only available in the store while not doing a single thing to help with the acquisition of gold, we were told many things and here it is the anniversary and these things haven’t happened.
It does count when promises are made prior and not just for 1 month before beta but years upon years of promises because that is advertising via word of mouth. So much disappointed came from this game that my friends and I won’t ever be buying anything supported by NCsoft again. When it’s okay to lose customers like that that’s when you know there’s a problem.
It’s coming up on the 1 year anniversary, how much more patient do you want people to be? It’s officially 8 years from the time they started making these claims about how this game would be if you purchased it you should expect to see those things.
the destruction of customer trust has become the business model imo. not having a PTR so people can help work out design flaws or bugs, not releasing information prior to launching a patch even by 1 day, teasing things like a design of a whole new armor set and then discovering it was meant for the store alone, and releasing an achievement patch without the retro to when they made the promise of improving the rewards system and including the retro back to the time of the promise, pretty much left a permanent bad taste in my mouth and others. My friends refuse to come back to this title. In fact, some of them are seriously considering boycotting all titles supported by NCsoft from here on out because of the way the economy and combat was done in this game.
People don’t how serious customer trust is these days.
I think you should read the OP. This is more off topic than I usually am.
The OP is complaining about a gift given to people who have bought gems. His complaint was answered, quite accurately by saying if Anet advertised the gift beforehand, it would be looked on as an advertising ploy rather than a gift.
Your list of “complaints” is not only off topic for this thread, but it’s gotten to the point where I can’t take anything you say seriously.
Yes, I get it. You’ve lost trust in Anet. Some of your friends have lost trust too. Well I ran a pretty reliable computer store for years and years, and I experienced some customers losing trust in me as well. Fortunately they were a vocal minority that never affected the bottom line of a business.
This sort of thing doesn’t benefit the game or the forums at all. If I were you, I’d find a game I liked, because clearly you’re not happy and your lack of happiness has you making off-topic posts that don’t further the conversation at all.
“I’m glad people are enjoying the kites! Though I’m displeased that Arenanet would once again release items with no prior knowledge given to the costumers. Also, that these items are presently exclusive. *To me, not being upfront with and limiting the customers opportunities, are not a healthy or honorable way to conduct business.
I’ve first noticed this with the mini’s, then the Starcake Recipes, and now the Kites. A good precedent this does not make. How can the costumer have trust in this environment?”
Does that clear it up for you now? It’s one thing to disagree it’s entirely another to make false statements about someone. My point is that it’s not limited to the kites it’s been happening for months now about alot of things. But since you didn’t read what I wrote obviously you didn’t notice that did you.
The only thing I hate worse than pirates ( the-go-to-bad-guy-when-you-can’t-think-up-anything-original )… are politics & religion.
Seriously, ArenaNet, who are writing these terrible plot/story lines? The constant ‘Threatwork News’ media bombardment is bad enough but now we have to deal with politics in a freakin’ video game?!?!
I want immersion but, more importantly, I need escapism.
I’m the same way.
What gets me the most is there’s no real voting here. If they were serious about changing the game they wouldn’t rely on rumor or speculation to influence changes in the game and a direct voting system even one that was put into the game to get the players consensus accurately would be the best option.
I think they are afraid of a real player vote because they’d know we’d reverse alot of the things they did to the game to “improve” it right off the bat.
If the effects of downed state were 100% balanced between classes there would be no issues because everyone would have the same chances to get back up or do the same damage in order to do s rescue rez.
There are tons of ways of improving the way they do this in every class. I’ve personally logged multiple suggestions on improving the engineers in their suggestion forums but nothings been done about the horrid skills engineers are stuck with while downed. So many device and attack options could be used to improve the overall setup of the 3 downed skills engineers can use but it’s like no one can come up with anything to improve the skills.
So why even have a downed state set of skills for engis if they aren’t going to improve them?

Doesn’t work for me either. When i learned that they didn’t retro the rewards for the achieves like the salvage ones that I’ve been doing every day since before launch, which would have added up to thousands of achievement points, I was highly disappointed. Yet again another promise not fulfilled.
The way this game was at launch for the first month was the only time everything was perfect. Even with the engineers problems we could actually do great damage, conditions weren’t nerfed in PVE, kit refinement made sense. I could go out into the world and get rewards for finding chests hidden at the top of some jump puzzle and the rewards were appropriate to my level and often were rares. I got the feeling of actually mattering when killing things for events. You could actually farm the materials you needed for anything relatively quickly just be being in the open world where the game was originally focused and those who wanted to run dungeons and who ran WvW were a separate castes and it was rightly done so people could actually play their way.
Just so much broken now it’s impossible to even begin to list it all.
Yep. Been a problem for a long long time now.
It was particularly noticeable when they reduced the AOE range of bombs to well below that of a dagger slash.
Now the same fuse times make it just unreliable for anything other then a toolbelt skill.
They also need to look at how many stacks of vulnerability these bombs stack because grenades stack minimum of 2 each and I noticed today that grenades when traited stack 2 stacks of bleed as well minimum. Also the bombs with special effects like concussion and smoke don’t do any damage unlike that of the grenade kit.
So until they fix these things bomb and toolkit will remain far far behind the grenade kit in damage.
I’ll post again.
For all pets including turrets, pets need a minimum of 80% AOE damage immunity, they need to all have mobility options like the spirits of the rangers, and they need to have options that dramatically increase their damage in the traits even if they are grandmaster traits (and 15% doesn’t cut it seriously).
Until these things happen all pets will be mediocre at best especially turrets.
This hasn’t been lately this has been going on since the patch where they claimed it’s been fixed. With Charr it’s highly noticeable has been all along. They point at the ground constantly and the range on this weapon is laughable but we’ll get some people replying to your post claiming everything’s fine and we aren’t seeing what we are really seeing all the time, just wait.
It’s weird to me too. For some odd reason they decided only certain things should be account wide. It would have been more revolutionary to have kept everything account wide instead. I personally have a longer list of things that should have been account wide imo.
~ currency like karma gold etc
~ achievements (only certain ones) like the world exploration one, meanwhile separating certain achievmeents like dailies so they could be accomplished on multiple toons per day.
just two more I can think of at the moment in my current Carb Coma I’m dealing with from lunch.
