Ritualist would be nice to see, summoning spirits.

Mesmers handle the chaos magic system already.

I personally would love to see some sortof Bard, Monk, Runepriest, Artificer.

runepriests cast runes and do AOEs they do alot of healing and removal of conditions using runes and glyphs.

Artificer is an old DnD concept it’s a magic user that makes use of magic items more then anything else, they would be the magic version of an engineer, devices that are solely magic based kits that would revolve around infusing items with special abilities that are not elemental. They’d do alot of prep prior to going into battle or they could use the f1-f4 keys to switch between 4 aspects like Healing infusion which would change the skills to support/curing on the weapons they use, or Resistive Infusion that would give the weapons both a protection/CC capabilities, Boon Infusion would give the weapons a boon/condition skills, and Alteration infusion which is the most fun imo because it allows the weapons to make changes to the environment. Well really all the weapons would allow that.

For example the healing infusion could allow the artificer to drop a delayed potion field that would remove conditions and create a regen/water field when triggered by a friendly or party member. With the boon infusion a potion zone could cause the players in the zone to crit more often, fury stacking perhaps. Or with the alteration infusion summons could be weakened and or broken like those of the necromancer the turrets and the spirits the enemies summoned.

Thinking boon/condition type class with alot of meta controls.

I heard the new changes of priority to buffs within parties coming soon.

Can we have a stable Right-Click to JOIN/INVITE to party options on chats?

At the current moment, it’s a real pain to manually type names when we hit “P”.

And anyone can answer as to why it sometimes show and not ?

I would personally suggest that if it’s an open world event that they add a button to the UI that has the join event party. It was the single BEST aspect of events in Rift I’ve ever seen in any game. Made it so much easier.

These are fantastic ideas. I especially would love the ability to customize the pets with colors, leashes, skins, etc…

And I’m probably in the minority on this one, but I would like to see it where other professions could use pets too.

I have so many in-depth ideas about how this all would work, but am trying to keep it lite so I don’t have a wall of text that is tl;dr.

Thanks!

They have elites where summons occur they could expand upon that most definitely.

Be sure and add some ideas I haven’t already posted.

I just miss this aspect of all of these other titles that had such great pet ideas they brought to their games that made the pet ownership more viable. What we have in this title is similar to what they did with the ranger tree in Rift which was just as bad. You’d get an automatic pet for traits you’d place in the ranger tree and there was NO taming in that game. You can imagine my disappointment with that!

In AoC when you trained a pet it would soon become your mount after the dailies in WoW you could tame one and do dailies to raise it to a mount, in Black Desert they are talking about making them tamable raiseable and allow some to be mounts at the same time.

So much space for improvement here’s to hoping their new collaboration helps this situation.

Out of that whole article THIS is the thing they have to understand the most IMO:
“People who tell you you’re awesome are useless. No, dangerous.
They are worse than useless because you want to believe them. They will defend you against critiques that are valid. They will seduce you into believing you are done learning, or into thinking that your work is better than it actually is. Especially watch out for the ones who tell you that nobody understands your genius.
Honestly, this is going to sound horrible, but self-doubt is one of your most powerful tools for craftsmanship. None of the designers you admire feel self-confident about their work in that way. None of them think that they are awesome. They all suffer from impostor complexes the size of the Titanic.
I am not saying that you need to lack confidence in yourself. (Heck, you’ll never put anything out if that’s the case! You need to have the arrogance to assume anyone will care in the first place). I am saying that nobody is ever done learning, and people who tell you you have arrived will give you a sense of complacency. You should never be complacent about your art.”

Edit: I actually think I’m going to save that article and quote this every time some rabid fanboy freaks out on someone’s good ideas.

Or everytime someone posts a “You’re awesomesauce” thread with literally only those two words in them. smh. It is dangerous, because they don’t improve anything when they hear that, and the valid concerns of those of us who come here every time we see something and post in the game in the bugs ui and months go by and the same bugs are still there are glossed over when that happens.

For example, STILL can’t name my ranger pets. It’s been what an entire year now? I name them summon something else it resets the name or it names the new pet what I named the last one. I do not want a spider named corn or an entire juvenile farm! seriously.

My only comment is…that you’ll probably still get blues from mobs.

This is currently all theory, yes?

I am really trying not to get my hopes up until I reach those levels because I was so disappointed to the changes they made to the loot system in November after buying the game so I’m seriously trying to remain objective about this system.

I can only say this. There seems to be some things going on with chests and boss bags that are great. I’ve actually received Rares from chests and boss bags of late and I’ve not reached 70% yet on my base mf.

I still however see a slight problem, players that are max level seem to get penalized more for being level 80 whereas those who are 1-79 get way more drops which means, they are still operating under the notion that making new players feel like they are extremely lucky means they’ll like the game more, they need to fix this problem because more players become disgruntled when they reach level 80 only to find that their drops are nerfed somehow or they aren’t as lucky any longer.

Also, DR still exists in the open world and needs some serious drop off so that it doesn’t affect players when fighting temporary event only mobs, these mobs should never ever drop greys! Ever!

Soooo the stream was completely underwhelming as expected, I understand their time is limited so I’m still looking forward to the patch notes, not getting excited though.

Watched it as well and what I found most disturbing was all of the time spent on Ele and Warriors like the other classes A: didn’t have more pressing problems that have needed to be fixed since launch and B: don’t deserve the same amount of care that these two favored classes have had since beta.

Seriously I would hope that in the interest of fairness that next patch they focus mainly on Engineer and Ranger the most. Then the next patch they focus on Thief and Mesmer the most etc so that it’s a balanced approach to them all.

Edit: To point another thing out: Completely remove the Autododge form Pistolwhip.

No.
S/P is the only completely balanced yet effective setup we have and very few players use it.
This change would nerf it to the ground. Pistol Whip has a really telegrapbed animation. If you miss the first hit, you are going to be rooted in place, ready to be burst down. It’s high initiative cost (5!) is already a high price for not landing the first hit.

no indeed, autododge on my thief and ranger are just fine, you just have to time your abilities better in pvp wvw. PVE shouldn’t suffer because you guys don’t want to learn every class to be more effective against them.

Niceties:

  1. Pet food: New recipes for chefs or enhance the old ones to have guides in their tooltips on what exactly it does for your pet if you feed your pet this food. It was nice for buffs and was found in many games. LOTRO had some special food for their bears for Loremasters to make them more resistant and more threatening with some added bonuses to vitality.
  2. Raising pets from babies. Loved this in both WoW and AoC. You could start off with a tiny level 1 critter and do some daily activities usually noncombat at first and raise them to be adults. Added some fun to the game.
  3. Give us more skins for every kind so that we can customize which pets we get. Either we should be able to change their skins to make them more personalized or there should be rare ones out there in the forest for us to go hunt down. Cannot tell you how big this was in WoW people would pay monthly to just go around hunting rare skins on pets all day on their hunter. Huge.
  4. Emotes: It’s been a nice system of having emotes from plugins on various games where in the RP channels pets and players could interact with each other thru storyline style text emotes. I would also love to see the ability to emote some graphical interaction between pet and master.
  5. Toys and Leashes: One of the great things about being a hunter in WoW was that you could go to a pet store buy some special wash, a leash, and some toys to play with the pet. They’d interact with the toy and you could make it seem like you weren’t just some character model with another mob character model standing around in the city. It added some immersion.
  6. Holiday Event only Pets: It would be awesome if pets could be added to the holidays so that Rangers could go hunting for that special skin to tame during the holiday events that way they could have a little extra specific to their class and it would be something more useful running around with you than a level 1 mini.

TL;DR: I know that I mention WoW alot in this however WoW wasn’t the first game to have these options and it shouldn’t be the last. Even games like Godswar Online added tameable combat pets in 2011 and the community exploded with joy at chatter about how great their pets were and the functions of their own personal set of skills they trained them to do made them unique. I just think if they changed the way this class worked it would make it more exciting a class and would change the dynamic of the game tremendously because customization is always preferable to cookie cutter.

The many ways in which you could seriously improve the ranger profession:

Pets:

  1. Change how they are tamed. Add some imagery, some quick movements, something to make it take about 3-4 seconds before they trust the ranger instead of it being the immersionless click “do you want this now” menu system.
  2. Make it so that maxing out the traits in the pets trait line allows for the taming of special pets, creatures that the standard ranger without these traits would never get. Like Plants, Bats, Marmox, Dolyaks, Minotaur, Skale, Worms, Skelk , Wind Riders and Raptors.
  3. Give pets their own trait trees so rangers have more options on customizing them complete with their own skill choices that they’ll perform automatically as well as their own CC choices or threat management choices.
  4. Allow pets that would normally be the tanky types the ability to AOE swing. It’s been necessary and added to every game out there where pets needed to AOE swing gain aggro from their controller. WoW had it for their hunters on tenacity pets, LOTRO had it for the bears on the LM trait line specific to pets. It’s just a necessary evil that most games need when they have a class like this because what happens and I’ve seen it multiple times is a bear will be paying attention to one enemy and the other one right behind him will be attacking the ranger and the bear won’t immediately change targets to grab them both.
  5. Collars: items that you place on the pet to enhance their stats or performance. It’s something common to games like TorchLight II but it’s very nice to have. You can add spells to the pets to enhance certain functionalities by allowing the purchase of these collars so they can do special maneuvers and there wouldn’t be the boring same old ranger running around looking and acting like a cookie cutter of everyone else.

Skills:

  1. Kill Shot: There is no kill shot in this class and there should be. It was a snipe of sorts in many other games where the class had the option of attempting to end the life of the target quickly. You have it for the underwater weapons but not for land weapons like the Long Bow. This skill is absolutely necessary it’s as necessary as the warrior’s snipe shot and It could easily replace the Useless #1 skill on the Long Bow with a sensable cooldown.
  2. Return the damage ratios to traps in PVE. The reason being is that Traps add a whole new dimension of tactics to the game. You lead the enemy into the trap to devastate them. It’s so much nicer than just #1 spamming everything or doing the single #5 AOE on the longbow, it adds character to the gameplay.
  3. Go for the Throat Shout: Another missing skill that would be very useful for animals that do bleeds. It could be like a mini kill shot for the beastmaster style ranger that allows the pet to do an enormous damage attack to try to end the life of the enemy quickly and would certainly help with the burst damage in PVE.
  4. Add a skill for camoflauge. It was the single most useful tool especially in PVE against enemies. I could sneak around like a rogue for a minute so long as I didn’t get too close to the enemies and when I came to a complete stop I had stealth instead of camo so I could remain safe for 60 seconds of stillness. It was nice. It had a hefty cooldown but that was okay because it’s usefulness was worthit.
  5. Make stealth for pets a toggle. It’s not going to break anything to make them move 30% slower and give them a permastealth, they’ve already been nerfed in PVP so making the cat families have this is a no brainer they do this in the wild anyways why not have it as a choice to make it more realistic. Also it would be nice to see this stealth permanent on the guard shout because it makes no sense to give them 6-7 seconds of stealth while waiting for an attack, it’s useless entirely.
  6. If you do plan on expanding pets by allowing for pet specialization builds please allow for skills specific to the special pets to be available, they tend to be AOEs and add functionality to the pets that their regular attacks lack.
  7. Trait to increase the damage of all pets would be nice as part of the passive to tame specialized pets. It would be nice to get this as an automatic so this combined with the passive to tame specialized pets should definitely be within the same trait on the ranger pet trait line.
  8. Also I would suggest combining the skill bonuses for each type of pets into one trait so that you can add some of these other ideas into that ranger pet trait line, like Rending attacks and Vigorous training could be combines while Stability training and Intimidation training could be combined.
  9. Give the option for F2 to be autocast by the pet. If we’re to believe that these things were trained by the ranger they should instinctively know to cast that skill.

As a last question: Could the ppl on anet watch their “manifesto” again and tell the ppl on forums: How is this game’s pve not about “swinging your sword” over and over again?

Seriously, try anything other than a warrior and you’ll notice that there’s more to life than just auto attacking.

LOL actually everything other then the ele has a #1 spam weapon. It’s not just the warrior dude it’s the entire setup of how they handle the combat. It’s borked and it’s time for a change.

As far as OP is concerned I’d like to know the answer to the PVE question as well. We’ve been asking it for a year now and no answer. Hopefully now that they’ve extended the arm of collaboration we’ll get some kind of answer as to why it was never done that way.

Is Guild Wars 2 Alt Friendly or Not?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

tigirius.9014

Alt friendly? no. If ANET wants to make the game alt friendly, they need to eliminate the entire concept of soul bound.

Not to mention merge the dyes per account instead of per character, achievements per account like once you explore the world once that should be it, every character should have the same map, separate the dailies between toons so there’s one per toon, things like this should be a no brainer honestly for any mmo gamer, oh and if we were to be really really honest about ascended gear they’d make it so that it’s only useable in fractals because that’s the reason why they made the consumable upgrades on that gear the way they did originally because agony was coming to the fractals. We don’t need ascended in anything else really and they shouldn’t balance the open world or WvW around ascended either because ascended has no place there.

For all the FPS hungry people out there, I would suggest going out and mowing a few lawns on weekends, save up your money and buy a decent graphics card—Nvidia GTX580 or higher.

That’s not the issue. Did you even read the thread ?

Yeah my system is no slouch and it has FPS drops right in the middle of the most senseless things that should never be an issue like coming to the surface after swimming, turning when a player is running the opposite direction, and random stops while the system is trying to figure out where the mobs are. Not to mention the extreme load times.

It doesn’t happen every play session but it definitely happens just after a patch which usually requires a second patch to remove most of it and then it returns to the buggyness it has in general.

Also, there is a memory leak in the kernel of the game, this the is the only game that I play right now that just suddenly crashes because it just becomes a memory hog and builds and builds and builds until the system can’t handle it and shuts the game down. I play all kinds of mmos and 3D games both modern and old and this is the only title this happens with. There’s something definitely wrong with this game, not people’s computers.

Not enough skills!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: tigirius.9014

tigirius.9014

They need more skills.

They need to make the traits that increase damage a standard for the five point traits so that we can pick and choose from the traits that make a difference in the skills and how they function rather than wasting some choices just to get that extra 5%.

They need to make condition damage a non-automatic thing that is only added to the skills for damage when a character chooses a trait line that’s heavy into condition damage. For example, remove all bleeds until that character is traited into grandmaster condition duration/damage trait line.

They need to make all damage equalized for the purpose of keeping the game honest. For example, engineer #1 rifle shot shouldn’t do less damage in an equal burst zerker damage build with the same gear as a warrior #1 shot.

They need to stop adding more and more hitpoints to pets and finally just buckle down and give them a 90% AOE immunity and the ability to rez their owners even if they are in the non-combat stage, and allow summons and turrets an immunity those few seconds of summoning (2s would do).

There’s just alot that needs fixing to make the diversity in combat a real feature in this game.

Warriors are fine – for the first time they’re competitive in PVP and I’m pretty tired of all the people QQing that they don’t get their free kill anymore. Honestly sad.
Instead of shifting the meta they QQ about warriors being OP.

well i kill warr on daily basis in pvp so they are still a free kill

Maybe you’re just good. Now can you please teach all the other people constantly complaining how you do it? Maybe then we’d have some peace.

Well in every mmo i v played i am used to playing an thief/assassin character. The thing that is bothering me with warriors is that they are a class for beginners a class that in pve is a armor wearing crit damage killing machine which IMHO is just asinine. But on the other hand in pvp berserk warriors are just hunks of meat compared to berserk thief’s which is also asinine. In www and in dungeons when i roll with warriors for example the thing i don’t get at all is that as a berserk thief i outlive those warriors… It is the strangest mostly unbalanced class in gw2..

Warriors are not unbalanced.
I agree – warriors are good in PVE BUT all the classes are good in PVE.
Other classes ( Thief, ele – and according to some guardian ) outdamage it easily in PVE so I don’t see that being much of an issue.

Dunno which game you’re playing but there are still demands from the speed run dungeon crowd for only specific classes, it’s just not as visible as it used to be because now they have a LFG tool!

There’s also big in your face evidence that the classes with pets and with hybrid designs (forcing the need for conditions onto the classes that should be able to use burst as easily as other classes) generally don’t do as much DPS in PVE as their counterparts. It’s not necessary or wanted that these classes be forced to pick gear that both enhances condi damage and burst similtaneously because it cuts down on diversity and causes extra problems in PVE open world boss fights where everyone is stacking condi damage and almost none of it is being counted due to stack limits.

Add to that the lack of equality in both the condition damage scaling AND the burst dps scaling for the same gear on equally specced character of various classes and no you don’t have an egalitarian system of DPS, engineer rifle for example doesn’t come anywhere near the range or damage output WITHOUT the use of condition damage additions that the warrior has.

So no PVE is not equal and all classes don’t do fine in the DPS department. That’s just wrong on so many levels.

as a wvw ranger (i can count on one hand how many are we) i say the pets are useless in wvw. and if the not die they are still useless. cant siege or defend towers, cant keep us and deal aoe or cleave damage. they are bad single target damage dealers. and they suck down our dmg.
and traps should be a kit + we need some serious trait change, move, merge
remove short sword self root and we need some real cc
axe main should be melee

All pets are useless in WvW, turrets, summons, ranger pets are all extremely vulnerable and adding more hitpoints won’t be enough to make them viable. They need resistance to AOEs.

They can keep adding all the hitpoints they want but this fact will remain until they fixit.

Gift of exploration and legendaries

So, I am required to explore all 4 maps in WvW to obtain a “gift of exploration” if I want to craft a legendary weapon. I play PVE not WvW! Why do we not have a choice to just explore the PVE world? I am not going to spend time struggling in ‘pvp’ mode to get a weapon I want to use in PVE. Note : I am not bashing WvW or the people who enjoy it.

you also need 500 badges of honor so whats your point?
follow a karma train and eventually you will reach all the maps.

this just reinforced his argument and mine, this was a huge flop imo. It’s a PVE weapon, this isn’t Aion and even Aion dropped a ton of people throughout it’s lifespan when they discovered they were being forced into PVP, I was one of the thousands that left that game because of it!

It is a huge problem we’ve posted about it at length in the class forums and as posted in the Collaboration thread we’ve talked about the need for more communication in class forums about these issues. the last three classes are the worst for boons of any significance, have way too much RNG for their boons, and conditions are nominal at best but they are forced to use conditions because they are hybrid classes. Also, let me correct 1 thing. Ele has AOE healing and can create items that give boons when they are used, that makes them better then the engineer by far so you were right to place them at the bottom. Also the stealing functions of thieves as well as a couple of well placed stealthbombs can make a difference in extra condi removal and some regen. Id say that the last three should read Ranger, Necro, Engi.

Handling of Ascended Weapons was Atrocious

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: tigirius.9014

tigirius.9014

So the time-gating really just got in the way of the casual players while the rich/hardcore players just bought their way around it or marathon farmed it.

Timegating always gets more in the way of casuals than hardcores. Even if they cannot be sidestepped (like in this case), only hardcores can be expected to “clear” a timegate everytime it comes up. Casuals will ocasionally (and sometimes not even so occasionally) fail to clear the gate in time (due to not having enough mats, not having enough time, or doing something else, because it seemed more fun then).
Diminishing return is a way better method of slowing down hardcores.

Ridiculous. DR never helped a thing, has been responsible for closing down whole gaming companies who stubbornly held onto this fail method of draconian control, and never helped any market. It’s been used to systematically break RNG based drop rates for years. It has no place in modern gaming, someone needs to teach all dev groups basic mmo development before making a game so they don’t make these mistakes and if these devs were actually gamers as they claim they’d know that DR is never a solution and would remember the history.

Also the 200g on the website is due to the inflated prices that will eventually drop. oh from 450 I just refined ascended mats I got from champ loot bags.

Cosmetic back items

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

tigirius.9014

So I know this won’t be a popular topic because it seems like people want the weird items right now but I’d like to know if there will ever be some serious time taken by the design crew into the back items. What I’m looking for is the kind that are typical for the medieval times for various jobs. I am only mentioning this as an example because I played this other game for years and they have a total of about 15 different kinds of backpacks and I’d hoped to see that kind of detail in this game when I learned of the backpieces. LOTRO has some of the best backpacks, mapmaker, cook, treasurehunter, sachels, a backpack with tools hanging off that looks like it’s for gathering. There’s just alot there.

I recently purchased the Magitech armor and I wanted something to match for my engineer but have yet to see anything. Also, I might pickup my ranger again (despite one of my threads saying I deleted mine, something told me to hang onto it at level 50) and there are plenty of bonelike armor sets for me to choose from I’d love something savage looking. So my question is this.

Will there be backpacks that one can buy from the store that match the racial armor sets or the store armor cosmetic sets in the near future?

I’m only linking this as examples please don’t take offense.

In other games (ahem cough) I missed the ability to get extra materials from the bodies of the enemies I’d defeat because I had a high enough score in that profession (more clothe because of tailoring, herbs from plant enemies because I’m a chef/artificer in this title etc) I’d love for these resources to A: not longer be affected by DR for example no longer killing animals like bucks or doe and getting no leather from them or meat B: I’d love to see them change the way DR affects the mobs that are only there for an event so that when we’re doing an event if we’ve killed say 20 undead to get to the boss before the event starts we’re not getting mostly grey dusty bones from the mobs attacking the base for example.

It would make for much better experience.

Turrents, Unique trait, totally useless?

Turret cooldowns are way too long.

I don’t think any should be over 30seconds tops.

Personally they shouldn’t be above 15 seconds if we pick them up because 1: they weren’t destroyed requiring longer period to put them back together 2: how hard is it for an engineer to plop one down and hit the on switch.

I’ve been asking for that for months now it’s ridiculous the sheer lack of sensibility put into the process of this class sure it’s fantasy but cmon even fantasy worlds have physics.

What we need for turrets to finally be viable:

  1. 90% AOE immunity
  2. a trait whether grandmaster or not, that allows them to be mobile
  3. faster CDs when we pick them up (mentioned above)
  4. smarter attacks (which is on the way according to their Oct 15th preview)
  5. the inability to tab target them (which means enemies must click target them directly to hit it)
  6. the Mortar Elite should have 100% immunity to AOEs because it’s an elite duh, and it should fire by itself when we’re not standing in it.

Then turrets will be viable, there’s a sheer lack of understanding of the needs of pet classes in the balance of this game that goes beyond the engineer I’m afraid! Oh and btw these things are well tested in other games have been using them for years (cept the 100% immunity thing for elite) and it’s worked out very well.

Great! I personally love the Sigil of Water on my off hand instead of doom for the condition build because of the AOE chill effect it gives if enemies get too close. They increased the initial damage it does as well recently which helps alot!

I also don’t use the backpack regen until they fix the scaling I use formula 409 to remove conditions while using Elixirs H S B for extended boons especially retaliation. My Runes are the travelers set for extended boons and condition times and faster out of combat speed so I’m not stuck switching kits constantly for that 5-9 seconds of swiftness. I use the protection injection for the #1 slot in alchemy for if something knocks me over, and I use the 20 in the explosives slot for 100% fire and wider bomb radius while placing the rest in faster cooldowns in pistols, piercing bullets and 2% damage per condition placed on the enemy. Works well for me.

I use duel pistols all the time unless theres a ton of enemies then i switch to bomb kit. I use a hybrid AOE elixir 409 build. Got conditions galore, 3 elixirs for condition removal, elixirs H S B for extended retaliation if there’s a particularly large group to deal with, protection when stunned, bigger bomb radius and 100% burn, piercing bullets, faster CD of pistol skills and 2% extra damage per condition I apply, not to mention the big ol bomb which is always fun!

I’ve not used a shield in a while It would prolly work well for the combo fields

Is this game fixable?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: tigirius.9014

tigirius.9014

Whats to fix?

The game is delivered as “promised” in the manifesto even though people seem to have read in a lot of stuff that wasnt covered by the manifesto in the first place.

The only real problem with this game is that there are to many individuals that expected something that wasnt promised and they seem to roam the forums posting “Is this game fixable” like threads.

Basically they cant change their expectations and seem to think that changing a wonderful game to suit their own agenda. I assume that people tend to do that rather than implicitly admit that they didn’t understand the concept in the first place.

Are there things to improve? definitely! Is the game in any need of a “fix” due to being broken? Absolutely not!

I’m not talking about what was promised and is the game following someones ideology. I’m asking if the broken structure/mechanics of the game can be fixed? I gave a lot of examples of content that is broken or dead.

Let me give you one more example of how AN tried to fix something and broke it even more. It’s about Tequatl. AN tried to create some really hard and epic battle into a game. Raid like content. But they’ve mixed their own sauce and created Raid like content but in the open world. And now this boss can be beaten by 2 or 3 servers(1-2% of players?). So they’ve broken that encounter instead of fixing it. And that’s why I’m asking is AN really able to fix the game.

I don’t consider Tequatl a broken encounter at all. What’s wrong with a single event that only 1-2% of the people can beat? It’s only one or two percent.

Where you see broken, I see fixed.

I considered it broken when it was meaningless.

Well it is meaningless by apparently 98% (if i follow your numbers of course), either way, making content only 1-2% can complete seems very silly and quite game breaking for most, and will kill a business if it continues this direction.

I personally believe yes its all fixable OP but its on the devs to do it, and from what i’ve seen this past year i’m not even sure they see a problem or even want to fix it, that herein is the main problem in my opinion.

For me i see fixes as a no for now.

Tell it to the leader in the MMO market who has content that only 5% have finished. It won’t ruin the game. You have to have something for everyone and this game had very little for people who wanted a large scale PvE group challenge. Now they’ve added it.

If people weren’t so stuck up on having to do everything in the game, they wouldn’t be so worried about this.

They’ve been adding more challenging content lately. They’ve added the Queen’s Gauntlet, and the new dungeon, both of which are relatively challenging. Why? Because people asked for it.

Some people won’t be able to beat Liadri….but since even the most successful MMO of all time has that sort of stuff in it, I’m not sure why you think it would kill the game.

Actually they have it already it’s called fractals there was no need to change the content in the open world.

Also, you like the devs are ignoring what happened in other markets in other games when they tried to make their game events only completeable by 5% of the population, exodus. It happened to WoW. They tried to make things extremely hard just after launch in WoW and after about 3months after the release of BC people were leaving that game like crazy. I know I was there. It got really bad until they made these things much more accessable to the rest of the population. They apologized to the community at Blizzcon for making heroics extremely difficult and made it possible to complete these dungeons.

So really it’s not popular to do this it’s like banging up against a brick wall over and over eventually everyone gives up. Try running the game with only 5% of their previous income because unlekittenanges that’s next. History repeats.

A type of gathering I miss

WoW gives you the option of gathering items yourself, (spiders silk/elemental essences) where as GW2 only gives you the option to buy them. Sure you can spend all day trying to get lodestones and you may end up with 1 or 2, thats why people find exploit farms(lyssa) because everything about this game is making gold to buy what you need. I would rather have the option to go out and kill monsters for their drops than burn my eyes out in a zerg train in frostgorge.

That’s exactly my point, we shouldn’t be so utterly dependant on gold for everything. The issue is being compounded by DR because these things are treated as regular drops. It’s the age old problem with games working only with RNG for everything. Since when do animals not drop meat or leather for example. I hope that they listen to this if they are truly interested in collaborating because I’d rather have the option of skinning one by one to get the true number of materials needed than go farm a dungeon path all day to get enough gold to buy the items in the TP.

I get plenty of crafting and salvage items from enemies so I’m not sure what the OP is talking about.

If you’re not sure what OP is talking about, then I’ll break it down for you. Say you need cloth or leather.
– You run around killing enemies.
– You hope RNG favors you enough to give you the appropriate salvage item.
– Or you hope RNG favors you enough to give you a loot bag.
– Then you hope RNG favors you enough to give you the desired items from said bag.

Meanwhile, I – someone who needs metal or lumber – simply run from node to node to node. I get a ton of ore in a fraction of the time it takes you to get cloth scraps.

Seriously don’t want to be mean, but I do NOT want aspects of WoW becoming parts of GW2. Sounds like some WoW vets chiming in to vote, “NO”, so that makes me relax a bit.

Just because it’s used in WoW doesn’t mean it’s not a good idea for Guild Wars 2. Or do you not want mining, harvesting, crafting, auction houses, etc, in GW2?

^^ this!

Many of the ui basics that are considered standard are because WoW adopted them making them more visible to a wider audience.

This isn’t a WoW thread per say but alot of people who come from WoW play GW2. It’s just natural that we’d expect to see certain things as a standard ui feature in the game because they were quality of life improvements.

yep about 50% is cutoff due to DR. I played headstart it wasn’t there prior to Nov 2012.

Not to mention that right now AOE loot is borked in this game.

Also, if you had a skill like tailoring in WoW you could collect extra cloth. That’s what I found useful! I would so love them to do that based a bit off class as well. Engineers would be able to pickup parts from bots and salvage them. Those were the days.

Chris’s post on collaboration, combined with their report on working on the development of a better support role, combined with what they revealed with the recent changes coming to classes on Oct 15th, combined with the recent changes that have actually made my account drop rares and exotics on occasion without reaching 100% magic find leads me to believe yes yes it is fixable and it looks like someone or something put a fire in the office under some people’s chairs and now things seem to be rolling.

You all know I am the first person in here complaining about something that’s either unfair or not well tested but it does seem to me that there is hope for the future for this title. We just have to be patient long enough for them to do something about the glaring problems this title faces. Give it time.

Completely agree!

You shouldn’t need ascended gear for the following activities in this game: WvW, regular dungeon stories, dungeon paths, any of the open world boss or champion events including but not limited to the dragons or their lieutenants.

The Ascended gear should be limited to the following: Fractals.

The original post introducing ascended gear did so for the sole purpose of high fractals which were to contain a debuff called agony. None of the activities BUT fractals should have agony so unless they are changing the rest of the entire game to have agony no one should need Ascended for anything other than higher fractals and no one should be forced even indirectly (which is what would happen in WvW) to have this gear.

I would recommend them placing a limitation on the ascended armor gear to be wearable only when entering a fractal that way it wouldn’t be in the way of any of the other world activities. (this could exclude the weapons but armor is out of the question, it needs to be limited.)

I strongly suggest you put these ‘what do you want to see’ type of threads in appropriate forums. Part of the problem in the past has been class forums are completely ignored so players are forced to air class issues in the sPvP forum because that’s the only one you visit.

If you’re going to make threads, make class specific ones in each forum. WvW one in the WvW forum. sPvP in the sPvP. And so forth. Otherwise we’ll all just be fighting amongst ourselves in a single thread. ‘Im not overpowered, you are!’ stuff.

Now this makes extreme sense to me as well! I love the idea of addressing each concern in each separate forum because it allows people to complain about only that one combat situation, it keeps it organized and people who play primarily PVE don’t accidently stumble upon a thread about a sPVP concern and think it’s a PVE issue!

I’d totally love to see these forums separate as well the future patches concerning class balance are supposed to be separate as well.

Each class should have a subforum of PVE sPVP and WvW.

Please don't make us craft ascended armor

I agree that would be a horrendous grind fest even worse then the legendaries I’d imagine.

I’d also make it a point to make them not wearable in WvW that way WvW can stay an even keel situation (or as close to one as we have atm) so people won’t have an unfair advantage just because they had more precursor gold or enormous amounts of time to complete the grind before others. Ascended was supposed to be simply for Fractals how about making it stay that way as far as armor and accessories go.

That’s how I’d feel more at ease about the situation with ascended.

Maybe they’re not as well received as Colin’s posts typically are, but they’ve interacted, and MADE THEIR POINT. They are not budging on this issue. It does not matter one bit what our suggestions are.

Thank you, ilr – I hadn’t seen those discussions. Admittedly I don’t spend time in the PvP forums so that likely explains it.

But to the issue at hand in this thread, my example of the Pet mechanic was just one example where many exist. You made a great point though that at least for this particular example, the “discussion” has been very unidirectional. It hasn’t been the collaborative effort in direction-setting that the OP is hoping we can achieve.

The thing that bothers me the most is that the devs in dealing with the public haven’t used any of the viable solutions for PVE that have existed in other titles for a long long time, long before they started working on GW2. It’s like they are all ingenue I would have expected a few mistakes here and there that’s common however to ignore the entire history of mmo development for pride is unacceptable imo and that’s how I’ve perceived their lack of concern for some of the simpler items. Like improving damage for pets in PVE, making them immune to AOEs by 85% 90% so they don’t die instantly, making them smart so they don’t accidently run over some left over AOE zone and die, make them all mobile even if it’s solely via traits that this happens (IE engineer turrets).

The pet classes would improve immediately if these things were done. Every mmo has the same concepts but different numbers when it comes to combat, they have the same problems, they all have to adjust and I’m just not seeing them taking the pet classes seriously enough to make them viable in PVE and WvW.

A concern I have is the majority of “content” that has been added is temporary. I’m sure others would agree with me that I want to consume content at my own pace, not be forced to play the flavor of the week living story events…

The newest concern for this content is that it’s turned into a five man dungeon fest when the living story was supposed to bring people back to all of the open world, at beast all it’s done is bring people to one area at a time, only ascended weapon grinding has brought people back to the open world temporarily to gather materials for their newest gear.

LS isn’t up to the standards. Just this month almost ALL of the achievements are in a dungeon, if I wanted to play in dungeons I would have bought another game.

That’s one of the major concerns that I don’t think they are hearing us on, many of us bought to game for the promise of open world events in which we’d never have to use a LFG of any kind ever again for the content and that’s what we were originally promised, here it is a year later and it’s still not delivered not even with the LS content!

“We do need to build out more time to be in dialog with you, specifically, following up on our own investigations of your suggestions and concerns.
We will work harder to achieves this.”

Might I suggest that in the spirit of collaboration that you take a look at the long list of long lists of suggestions in the suggestions forum that were posted just after launch as well as 4 months after launch by myself and many others who saw large holes missing in your UI for this game particularly in the areas of basic features every game should have by now as standard and in the guild interface.

I’d also like to mirror the concerns of the community when we say in this thread that we don’t believe collaboration will occur because many of us have for over a year posted well thought out descriptive and calm suggestions/fixes for the numerous challenges this title has faced prior the 1 year anniversary. So while it’s welcome, and we’d love to see it happen, at this point we really don’t have much faith that the most important issues talked about frequently will ever be addressed without some form of gesture from the development team.

One of the major items to look into I would suggest and not because it is mine, is here . Many people including people who I usually disagree with continously generally like this list as a comprehensive first step in making this game more accessible to the players.

There are other such lists in the suggestions forums as well as in the class forums on simple ways of correcting the problems with combat, pet AI, pet weakness on all three scales (turrets/ranger pets/summons) and the serious lack of diversity in builds in PVE.

We’ll be watching in earnest to see if this collaboration comes to pass, thanks for speaking with us.

Why is celestial armor time-gated?

in Crafting

Posted by: tigirius.9014

tigirius.9014

Just came back to the game after a 6 month hiatus, since I have about two days before I get too busy to play again.

Apparently, if I want to craft a set of full celestial armor, it will take me a minimum of 30 days, playing every day to mine and refine quartz. I don’t have that kind of time, and I wish I could play a lot during special events, but I simply don’t have that kind of freedom to play games anymore. One reason I always enjoyed GW2 was that it was at least possible as a casual player- I have a couple of fully geared 80s to play around with in WvW- but why is celestial suddenly so much harder to get than other exotic prefixes? It’s absurd. By the time I finish the armor set I won’t even be able to use it.

Why is this?

Well they could fixit by only allowing ascended weaponry in WvW and making the armors unequippable while in a WvW zone, because I recall (and I have a long memory with this game) when they claimed that the only reason why they made ascended was for the higher fractals, that it’s purpose was to give the dungeoneers something to do….so if they kept it completely honest they could just keep it from being used in WvW altogether and then only the people who do fractals would be breaking their legs to get the materials together for the armor I mean (not the weapons).

I do agree with you on celestial it’s entirely too difficult to make a set and someone mentioned it’s exotic so yeah that’s ridiculous.

It would be nice to get meat and leather from animals, herbs from plant enemies, parts/metals from mechanicals etc without fail because I had a skill in that particular development.

and if “all pets get immunity to AOE” they will be broken in half in any pvp wvw scenario.

If I recall correctly, every single MLG team in the sPvP tourney was running a spirit ranger. “Mediocre at best.”

Come up with a better solution.

Nope they won’t because they are already weak. The last pet to be weakened were the Rangers.

This is exactly beside the point however, because this kind of thing has been done countless times in other games as the fixall for the heavy pet class system and it works! They know it’s a problem and you guys blew up the forums when they talked about nerfing AOEs well something has to be done and giving pets a 90% immunity to AOE damage across the board has been tested before.

But I predict mind you that instead of actually looking at the development history of these systems they’ll continue to delay this mechanism and continue to have cookie cutter non-pet heavy builds for at least another year before someone actually looks at it and says “hey you know what? why don’t we do this? it’s been done before” and poof it will be finally done but it will most likely be too late because people will have moved on to something else most likely having been tired of waiting on something so simple.

WoW has one of the most reputable/successful hunter/pet systems in MMO history, and to my knowledge, has never nerfed AOE for it.

They made the pet ignore a large part of AE damage.
They also made the pet always attack from behind to help avoid cleaves.
The Hunter’s pet is only 15% of the class’s damage as opposed to 40% here.

I dunno, a BM hunter has a lot of damage from the pet, including some skills that require one being active including but not limited to their resource management.

That could even be baseline though, can’t remember.

If specced for beastmastery your pet did most of your damage (55-60%) and had even more defenses so they couldn’t just be snuffed aside by a warrior for example.

Which brings up yet another point. When speccing into a pet heavy build where is the extra defense and damage and why isn’t a non-pet spec making these pets only do 15% damage until someone specs into them heavily on rangers?

Hunters were my main in WoW that’s all I ever played the whole time I was there, but I also have a history of playing nothing but pet classes in every mmo I’ve ever played in until coming here and making my engineer first before the ranger.

Those people either (A) never played GW1, or (B) have forgotten that the vast majority of “rewards” for content completion in GW1 was cosmetic at best, if not outright garbage.

No we’ve just played other non-stingy game titles where you actually get rewarded for your time and then log into GW2 and wonder where it all went wrong in their design.
