Changes to ecto salvage from rares

I hope you find what’s wrong John. For me it’s not just a matter of the ectos I’ve had no exotics drop since January, only the guaranteed rares drop, other rares are 1 every 3 months and usually from some off the wall creature in a pre level 30 zone (never ever from champions or world bosses).

All of the bags I’ve opened from karma in Orr and from Laurels haven produces nothing but greys and karma bottles and not even the good bottles at that.

There’s definitely something wrong with the drop rate overall. I also salvaged and when I did I noticed almost all of the salvages came up with nothing but resources (no globs).

Loot nerfs

tigirius.9014

There’s currently a large debate on the issue, specifically with regard to Ectos salvaged from rares. Overwhelming data points to a nerf, and Anet responses seem to indicate that it was accidental. One Anet person is looking into it.

Details here:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Changes-to-ecto-salvage-from-rares/first

Frankly would be the third if not fourth “accidental” nerf discovered by players….

I start to suspect is not so “accidental”

It’s not accidental at all, the first time was very very noticeable by all even before the killcredit because everyone’s drop rates were reduced by 50% from what was happening the day before. But as usual people were saying it was statistics while they failed to take into account the NCsoft is not simply a partner in this case (like they are with Wildstar) and that management definitely has the reigns when it comes to loot to directly control how much gold someone gets since they still use a single currency system for much of everything that a toon needs both for first time progression as well as the acquisition of runes/sigils in the process of trying out what’s best for your build some of which are inflated over 400% since November. It’s also interesting to see just how many people actually think that this wouldn’t be the business plan for the RMT especially after that being the case directly with games like D3.

Yep never saw these in the actual game myself. Tried discovering them to no avail because at the time guildhead said they existed even tho they didn’t and now it says they are pvp only even tho those are different. Go to dulfy’s site and find out that the image maps are there but the actual items are not.

In the beta and just after beta days, I used to get a few exotics a week. I haven’t had a single exotic drop for me since January.

If it’s any consolation, I haven’t had a single exotic drop ever and been playing since the headstart weekend (7-800 hours roughly I think I’m at, uninstalled again for a while so can’t check my /age.)

I’m in the same boat. I haven’t had a single exotic drop since before january from anything.

I sent them a support ticket about it, got nothing back. I love seeing these threads talking about the salvage rate of rares….What rares? I’ve not seen those hardly (beyond the daily guaranteed rare) for months now. I occasionally get 1 from an odd source like a yellow non aggressive creature but that’s once every three weeks.

Been something terribly wrong for a while now and no one’s talking about it unless it affects the legendary seekers dungeoneers or pvpers.

I sent support tickets put in bug reports never got any indication that they’d help me, they gave me some automated line about it and then left it at that.

This guy has the GW2 Trinity problem down.

Dontain was great when he took the time out to talk about some major issues, he stopped the posting of the “everything is rainbows and candy” type videos and made some hard objective notes about just what is annoying about the title and how it can be fixed.

In that spirit there’s another I’ve recently discovered that talks not only about the way combat has become nothing but all Zerker combat in dungeons so players kill bosses as fast as possible and the death of the Arenanet Trinity not to be confused with the holy trinity.

He’s worth a watch, he makes quite a few points that are similar to what some of us have already said that we see in the game, and I love how he makes these arguments using mmo development history. (when other game developers have tried the same things and why those same things failed for those developers years ago as well, much like Totalbiscuit does in his videos)

Here’s his post, enjoy

He talks about how drops from more elite dungeons could bring in more money, but one of the things he doesn’t mention is the drop rates. For some reason only one person has talked about the loot problems in GW2 and I believe it’s due to a problem that Totalbiscuit brought to light some time ago. Publishers want only positive ratings and posts about games, never negative, and will indirectly threaten the media with the prospect of not having access to their content, thus cutting off the media that post anything negative from getting any future reviews. I hope that’s not the case but one has to wonder sometimes.

I have to add to your post here bud. As an engineer who once again saw a bug that was claimed to be fixed in a previous patch that still is not fixed but they claimed it was fixed a second time in their last patch to balance, that we’re told things are done in their patch notes only to find when we login that they haven’t done what they said they did AND they broke something else by making an unnecessary change to something that was working before they touched it (mines)

So not only do we need more clear communication directly from the devs it absolutely needs to be professional, ie their bugs really do need to be fixed when they claim they are.

There’s also the aspect of the balance team not prioritizing their bug fixes (because there’s quite a few that haven’t been touched that would help eleviate the struggle to find a working build for engineers if they’d only look at those first. (scopes)

I would have preferred it would be larger more noticeable personally because it’s difficult to tell it apart from the good AOEs and as a support class I swear someone programmed these bosses to drop their AOEs right where the heal zones are 99% of the time.

Less precursors = more RNG box sales

Skins are not content.

At the end of the day, nothing in Guild Wars 2’s cash shop or business model is unreasonable. The RNG boxes offer SKINS. NOT CONTENT. NOT POWER. SKINS.

Actually you are both wrong.

SKINS = CONTENT in horizontal progression games. SKIN =/= CONTENT in vertical progression games.

I am not against skins in the cash shop, however I am against the abuse of it. Right now the financial money making department of GW2 are focusing too much in the wrong direction.

Also NCsoft isn’t EA.

Have to totally disagree with you there bud. NCsoft is definitely acting EA ish. I’m waiting for the day (that some of us predicted back when Ascended was announced) where content will be gated off to those who have to have agony resistance to see it. Something else they promised never to do before they launched the game.

The limitation of loot/gold in this game was directed for the soul purpose of getting more sales. Now that they are feeling the squeeze someone in upper management holding the reigns on the loot thinks that squeezing it more tightly will cause people to spend more. That’s not how it works in the mmo universe. You do enough squeezing you scare away your customers and we’re starting to see it. I’m not happy about it and I don’t want anyone to be hurt by it but I’m waiting for the day when we’ll see layoffs directly as a result of lower sales due to this practice it’s coming.

One of their better design decisions is to downscale. I hated that in WoW, having to bother with the low level mobs when they didn’t drop anything (mainly while fishing) and I’m as casual as casual gets.

yeah you always talk about yourself dude! what about others? its RNG! do you expect me to get the same amount and type of T6 that you got?

those bags are 50/50 from what I’ve seen. While it is still RNG the drop rate from them is decent.

1 out of 6 is not 50/50. 1 out of 2 is 50/50 and I do have to agree with some who have posted here.

The argument against there being something wrong is never “I got mine sorry for your bad luck” which seems to be a theme on these forums whenever someone mentions that there’s a problem with loot acquisition in this game.

Just a quick update, I want to be thorough, so it will be a couple more hours before I have anything to say.

There are 2 options to be taken from John’s response in my view:

1. The drop rate shouldn’t have changed so it’s a bug.
2. NCSoft wanted more gem sales by nerfing ecto drops, I better get PR advice on what to say.

I hope it’s number 1.

But more than likely number 2…

There are two people that I know don’t mince words or sugar coat things using marketing strategy. John is one, Gaile is another. I have full faith that his research will give us insight on the issue one way or another. They are like the Gordon Ramsays of GW2, minus the bad words. That would be a lot of kittens.

You mean like when Gaile said that the killcredit bug was our perception and not real?

A Casually Fading Game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: tigirius.9014

tigirius.9014

As a filthy casual I have to laugh at these threads because nowhere in the post level 80 process is this game at all easy. Mobs keep getting updated to make them non soloable…..

Non soloable? This game is the most soloable game I know, I don’t mind. I prefer it many times. Even veterans are soloable. Its not bad, other games definetly needed a party (because you needed healer, tank, buffer) and waiting around doing nothing is no fun.

They are right now, just wait. In case you haven’t noticed everything that I’ve warned people about has come true so far. Right now we’re seeing them put the pieces together about the newest in nerfs of the T6 drops and globs. We’ll see a time when the orr mobs become so resistant to attacks and so updated that they’ll require a group as well just like dungeon mobs. Mark my words, it’s obvious that’s in the works.

Oh and I also have to point out that doing that is exactly like what happened in yet another mmo title that tried the same thing to make their open world content more “challenging” LOTRO post their Mirkwood expansion. Made their mobs to challenging that no one wanted to play anymore.

There’s a pattern here to be true. They are literally going down the list of all of the subtle changes tried by other mmo developers years ago in which those developers too found them to be harmful to their playerbase and made the game not fun. From someone who’s documented these changes in other games so that I’d recognize them in future titles, it’s amazing that someone on their development team doesn’t recognize these as “already tried, failed back then” as I do.

Honestly…by far not everyone in game wants a legendary. I know PLENTY of guildies who find them as ugly as me And the same goes for all the added new weapon skins so far. Not a fan. There is by far more people out there, who DON’T want a legendary. than there is people, who do. I am absolutely certain of that So yeah…they are rare for a reason, but it’s not, that anet wants to get rich. If legendaries and precursors weren’t hard to get, there wouldn’t be any reason to want them anymore.

LOL I have to laugh people actually think that business models = conspiracy theories.

There is nothing gained solo in this title. He’s absolutely right. All of the focus is on those who group constantly. And if you try to do something solo in this game you have to be rich to do it. That’s how it works here.

Let’s just put that aside for a moment and talk about how this game was built on things that any real mmo gamer (which is what the devs call themselves, gamers that understand us gamers who built this game for us gamers) would never have used in a million years simply due to mmo development history.

  1. DR
  2. dungeon focus
  3. higher tier gear
  4. precursors for legendaries
  5. the grind to acquire drops
  6. excessive RNG in everything including acquiring gear
  7. a crafting system that doesn’t require a crafting rating (mystic forge)
  8. more RNG as the solution for RNG

So while I agree that precursors aren’t the only problem, there’s ALOT of problems here that any self respecting mmo gamer would never put into their own game. Honestly folks, cmon now, be honest with yourselves, if you were to make your own game right now would you seriously put your players thru this?

There is also the question of dust. The last time I transmuted it was totally different and looks as tho it was in the same ballpark.

I saw a corrolation the last time they made an adjustment (stealth) to the transmutation of the items using the dust. I was using the 250 T5 + two other mats and + 1 dust to create the T6 materials. It was huge compared to any other time I’ve done the transmute. I got 56 of one material and 37 of another. So basically they’ve adjusted the number of dusts that drop to offset the increase in mystic forge transmutations. I tried it twice to make sure it wasn’t a fluke. In the past, when I did it before the change, transmutation only gave me 17 of the item 18 max. Back then, two months ago, I could get a T6 item from every single box/craft bag I purchased with my laurels/karma and I could get these things without magic find armor or buffs of any kind.

Basically transmutes and RNG boxes work completely different now than they did a couple of months ago. The increase in the items gathered from transmutes would definitely explain the sudden loss in dust used to transmute 250 T5 items in to T6.

The problems with the RNG boxes also seem to have increased. More then two months ago I opened those bags from laurels and those boxes from the Karma vendors in Orr. I got all kinds of drops (altho none of them were the most rare lodestones, etc). This month I tried it again and got absolutely nothing after opening 35 boxes/bags.

I’m waiting to hear the explanation as well. If they’d just give us a limited number of karma purchases per day from vendors in town it would solve the problem.

Farm gold and buy the mats…

Except, this is the entire reason for inflation? It would only make the problem worse. Anet needs to fix some of the droprates on certain items before prices spin even more out of control.

Exactly. Nice to see some others are starting to catch on to just what the problem is. I’m still tracking the prices on things, they’ve got two more months and the most expensive items I’ve been tracking will hit close to 500% inflation since November of last year. It’s only going up folks not down. Soon no one will have these items even in the TP because the cutoff point will start getting worse as more people leave and fewer drops are allowed, there is a cutoff and it’s only going to get uglier not better.

I saw a corrolation the last time they made an adjustment (stealth) to the transmutation of the items using the dust. I was using the 250 T5 + two other mats and + 1 dust to create the T6 materials. Also as a marker keep in mind my account is constantly hit with DR or whatever they’d like to call it where I kill 6-8 things and get nothing but skulls constantly after that.

Mortar has yet to get any changes and if it ever will, no one knows. So how about we make a game about it? Guess what month and year will we ever see a change for it and if you are correct, you win 1g! yay!! (So sue me I’m poor)

Just choose a month and year like.. January 2012. The first person to post that month gets that month and you can only have one guess. Any edited posts are disqualified. Also any posts made a day near when patch notes are up and it happens don’t count.

So go ahead pick a month! You got nothing to lose!

Meanwhile warriors get yet another bonus this time to their racial elite skills. Whens the Charrzooka going to get the benefits from all of the sundry explosive/fire bonuses? Or the shrapnel mine? Seriously go over and look at their forum.

  • Restorative Strength trait: Now functions with the sylvari Healing Seed skill and the human Prayer to Dwayna skill.

And I had some thoughts; Since engineers get traits for turrets/explosives and what not, can we have a reasonable expectation for to enhance our racial abilities as well? Didn’t Anet say something about racial skills not being too overly advantageous outside of their intent? There are racial abilities that include turrets, shouts, trap-like AOE’s, and other assorted fun stuff. In the realm of possibility/plausibility, what do you think else should follow suit?

This doesn’t look like a mistake it looks more like the atypical problem we face as engineers. So does the mines change. The #1 problem is favoritism for other classes not for engineers. The other problem is that I seriously doubt anyones actually doing any testing over there on engineers before they release the patch, second I doubt any of these changes are approved by upper management before being released, and finally until they get a dev in there that actually likes and sees the potential for great fun in the engineer these types of things will happen every month, I lost all faith in their decision making with this class months ago. All my hope is gone now.

Minefield Broken.

in Engineer

Posted by: tigirius.9014

tigirius.9014

From the patch notes:

Throw Mine and Mine Field skills: Certain friendly NPCs no longer detonate mines.
Scatter Mines skill: Recharge is no longer impacted by the Rifled Barrels trait.

These present new issues with mines that are greater than the original issues.

Mine Field no longer explode when enemies cross them and can only be detonated manually. Furthermore, when the Rifled Barrels trait is active, the mines not only no longer explode, but they trigger a 20 second cooldown on Mine Field whenever any creature (ally, enemy or yourself) steps on them (regardless of Recharge Rate reduction from the Tools line). This cooldown resets whenever any creature crosses them (thus making them unable to be even manually detonated) in a perpetual loop.

Great. So once again they focus solely on PVP fixes, the put out a change to PVE that breaks even more PVE builds and devices forcing people to use kits even more then they were before instead of gadgets and we’re just supposed to wait patiently while they notice ( if ever judging about how scopes has gone since BWE2 )

I usually set the thing off when I drop them but I can see this being a problem. See this poses a secondary issue. They already dropped in weird places with no decernable pattern usually behind the player anyway. I also found them to be useless when mobs ran over them in PVE so now they are doubly so.

Gotta say I can’t imagine someone in upper management actually seeing the problems here and approving what they did in this patch much less the ones in the previous patch.

As a filthy casual I have to laugh at these threads because nowhere in the post level 80 process is this game at all easy. Mobs keep getting updated to make them non soloable, there’s a code in the system and the whole game is designed to absolutely be partied with someone at all times to get anything from mobs, the dungeons are so difficult and so few are rewarding that people generally ignore all of them save 1 path all the time, and don’t try to actually see the story mode because that will waste people’s time. Not to mention the need for certain classes due to the game challenge level of the dungeons so that people can speed run thru them to get resources since those resources are nowhere else to be found.

If this game isn’t difficult for you then do what you have told us legit farmers for a very long time now when we’ve complained about there not being enough casual activities in the game, leave. That’s what I’ve heard every time any of us have actually talked about their development.

What was in today's patch?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: tigirius.9014

Guys… a patch is never needed to modify loot drop percentages…

Loot drop percentages are done server side not client side. If it was client side, loot percentages would be hackable.

But still would need a download.

When server side changes are done, a new build is created, so the game executable needs to be updated with that new build even if nothing changes client side, which is why when they do routine maintenance we still have to do a 48 megs download.

Exactly, the last time they did that was when they were “fixing” the drop rates of unid’d dyes a few months ago so yeah they definitely have a client patch with each loot adjustment trust me.

I’m seeing that too.

And I’d like to add to all those who really seriously think that Arenanet doesn’t have money making on their brain, just look at their broken TP economy that continues to inflate. And look at their animation for the new unlimited tool in the shop.

And finally yes it’s important for a title to earn money for future developement but we’ve already seen that money go elsewhere setting this game on automatic, AND plenty of other mmo’s that are F2P are making buttloads of cash without sacrificing content development and without manipulation of loot farming.

Of course there’s already the explorer type and soldier obviously however it’s quite noticeable how the rest of the paths are missing in this game, and some of us were curious if GW2 would be doing what most mmo’s do, adapt to the market. The system is working as intended. RNG is RNG. I’m sorry you don’t get good item drops. Keep playing, and one day you’ll get good drops.

That is such nonsense. Really it is. First off RNG doesn’t give people the same exact drops not matter what time of the year doing the same events over and over on either side of the coin (good or bad) like it’s doing now. Second, saying that one day it will happen is just like saying under the killcredit bug one day someone will get credit for a kill. and finally OP if you’re not getting the drops you should I can’t tell you what to do but i’m sure not going to give you false hope.

Faulty reward system?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

tigirius.9014

I’d start by removing these RNG boxes for loot in the Laurel/karma vendors. They are a total joke. for T6 mats we need vendors for karma for these items even if their is a daily cap per person that would solve the legendary/crafting issues we have. (people would actually be able to craft a full set of superior runes of the eagle without spending 12-84 gold.)

Give us the ability to make a larger portion of T6 mats from a smaller portion of T5 in the mystic toilet so it’s no longer called the mystic toilet by the playerbase. (50 instead of 250 for 20-35 T6 mats).

Make the rewards from finishing the maps in each zone high level rewards we’re talkin level 80 rares or exotics.

Take out this nonsense DR mess that’s only there to harm the players because the bots stopped doing this a long long time ago (hunting mobs) and switched to gathering T5 T6 mats from gathering nodes.

Remove the restriction to always be in a group to get the guild currency or to get better drops and actually allow magic find scores to function properly (100% should’ve been plenty from the start).

All of these things that seem minor when they add up to be a negative against the players they are collectively the reasons why the rewards system is so broken in this game.

I like to farm. it makes me happy killing monsters and getting loots from them.

I do too. It’s very fun and relaxing when you get rewarded for your time. You enjoy the scenery help clear out enemies while farming, and get some great loot in the process unless something’s wrong and the rewards don’t drop.

I’ve played about 11 mmo’s in my time not including a beta I’m waiting on. In my time this has never been an issue in any other game title F2P or not.

People like to farm, but the whole aspect of farming people like to do is get rewarded. It’s grinding that people hate, grinding is forcing people to do the same activity over and over for currency or loot for progression. Grinding is what people seeking legendaries are doing because there is no other activity that rewards legendaries or the mats that are needed for legendaries especially with this system of limited loot acquisition. That’s the difference.

I would gladly take a survey that offers no rewards other than knowing I’d have a positive impact on a game I thoroughly enjoy.

You might get a better representation of us players and what we want.

I would too. The last one they gave us really didn’t do it justice. We need a more direct line because the liaisons aren’t really helping i don’t think either that or there’s way too much that needs to get to the devs and management that just isn’t getting there. Not sure why.

1: Grenades #1 attack an autoattack with tabbed targeting. Increase the size of the explosive radius to what Norn Warriors enjoy on their 2 h swords for both bombs and grenades. No more misses.

2: Traits system revamped to match the ranger/thief bonuses so engineers can burst dps in PVE.

3: Gadgets fixed so that they provide a boon while on just like signets do, and fixing of the broken Kit Refinement abilities on the three kits it matters the most on (restoration of the healing field to EG, a shield of some kind to the toolkit, and the AOE fire field on the FT) (the two were kinda related since they were trying to make us use gadgets but failed since gadgets don’t do anything special while wearing them) (add to gadgets the 25% ooc run speed buff for Rocket Boots and Rubber Boots)

Point of adds with no loot?

I don’t consider myself a hardcore farmer so I always wonder how those who do think of themselves as such view attempts by the company to slow them down. I often hear very vague descriptions by the player base about what is too little but never what is too much in terms of gold/item acquisition. Are there sort of “free market” farmers out there who believe that players, if they choose, should be unfettered in their wealth acquisition? Do they believe that there is no detriment to the game, economy or community if a certain threshold of wealth acquisition is breached by a segment of the population?

The devs do want to slow people down (in some areas) and not give them easy money, at least with regard to infinite mob spawns during some events. Still, you can do some creative financial magic with the TP and some comments from the devs seem to even encourage it. Also, I keep hearing people say that the game is designed to make you convert gems to gold out of necessity. I still think that is only going to be perceived as a truth by people who believe in the path of least resistance. I will admit it is hard to argue against that, at least on the surface. There are many reasons for allowing gem to gold conversions. Even so, the move to reduce mob loot in certain areas is not the primary motivation for it.

Actually no we’re complaining about the lack of loot in all things. There’s this lopsided thing happening where “when” two people from the same guild or friend grouping get together daily/weekly/monthly they should not expect the same loot every time for every event right? Well that’s what’s happening and those of us stuck with the crappy drops all the time are sick and tired of it.

Also, the TP is a direct reflection of that. There are items so rare in the store they jump up by whole gold pieces per month. There’s an item right now necessary for zerker build that you have to buy 6 of if you want to stack it and it costs 12 gold do to how rare it is to get the mats to drop to make one. It’s going up as we speak but everyone thinks it’s perfectly fine tho.

There’s also the problem of magic find not really doing anything for these accounts that are hitting DR or whatever it really is that’s cutting off the loot for players.

See that’s the other thing. DR should never ever ever affect events. Those mobs appear temporarily and only for those events. Once you killed the 8th one you should get loot, people are reporting getting nothing or being insulted by getting skulls.

If this were minecraft I could have built an entire castle an armor set, a throne and a weapon out of all of the porous bones I’d accumulated and loot shouldn’t be like that, in fact it’s not on every other mmo out there. You can farm without restriction on those even in games where they have only 1 currency just like they do here in GW2 where that one currency is controlled/affected by the loot the players receive. So why the stingy nature of this game? Why is this game different in that regard and why is any business professional in the team over there content to restrict the awards for time spent system? Don’t they realize they are not gaining customers this way but scaring them off?

I don’t think botters care about armor or if their bots have anything on. They just need to tag mobs.

They don’t even do that anymore they switched to the one thing that Anet can’t modify like they did with loot, resource nodes. So they teleport from one node to the next so fast no one can report them while gathering, meanwhile Anet continues to harm the playerbase by strangling all open world loot until it turns purple in the face.

Anet, please conduct more surveys.

I believe you could get the information you need in order to target ‘problem’ areas, in a very precise and efficient manner.

Many people love doing surveys about something that interests them—they feel like they’re contributing and being useful.

Win/Win.

Thanks.

Big Time Yes!

See this is the trouble I reported earlier. On sub only titles there’s a survey system that goes directly to the devs to let them know “this is why I’m leaving” they don’t have one of those here to help them understand the problems players face and It’s obvious no one is reading these forums or there would be more focus in these areas people would like to have taken care of.

That kind of thing is needed here despirately.

Guild Wars 2 not doing well, True or False?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Given that GW2 is the only MMO that’s compatible with having a real life, literally the only one, and given that there’s a huge portion of the population that has both a job and kids, GW2 is here to stay. There’s just no other MMO currently on the market that caters to people with responsibilities on that scale.

It’s the kind of people who have half an hour to play if they’re lucky. In GW2 that’s enough to get a laurel and make meaningful progress. In other games you don’t even have a group yet.

Oh no trust me there are far far better ones designed just for that purpose with better economies and better rewards where it doesn’t take 16 months to gear the highest gear. I’m playing them right now as we speak. That’s the other thing, the economy is the absolute worst in this game compared to every other game I’ve ever played, Nowhere else have I ever seen a steady inflation in prices by hundreds of a percent continuously due to loot being terribly restricted to the point of craziness.

When you no longer have rewards for playing what’s the point if you’re not an RPer? That’s what games are for, to give the feeling that only a carrot on a stick can fulfill. Even with the insignificant rewards from the minigames in these types of mmos.

“Polish updates” don’t lead to gem store sales, though, so we’re not likely to see one anytime soon.

“Polish update now available in the gem store for 1800 gems.” (Available for a limited time only)

Honestly I wouldn’t be surprise if they did something like this

I wouldn’t be surprised either. It would be a backpack or something with a bottle of polish hanging out the top.

I think before they add skins and believe me I’m all for new skins for karma (and only karma) they need to go thru every single class forum and address/eliminate each and every bug/design flaw. They need to start in the three weakest classes for PVE and go thru and fix these classes first so they are easily on par with all of the other classes in PVE.

Engineer, Ranger, Necromancer.

Then they can work up from there but only if they are finished with these long lists of bugs in these classes.

Then they need to remove culling from PVE. Then improve drops across the board for events that way people aren’t farming the same ones or trying to exploit because the loot is so terrible in this game. And/or add them to the bags one gets from the trees. (lodestones etc)

Then they need to retro people the laurels they’ve already achieved.

Then they can continue to do more content.

Guild Wars 2 not doing well, True or False?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: tigirius.9014

tigirius.9014

They mentioned an expansion but not because GW2 was doing well, but because they said it wasn’t doing well enough and wanted to spike the sales. The problem isn’t all the developers tho some of us have noticed that they took a massive amount of money from the first sales of GW2 and sent that money elsewhere instead of improving this title, and most of the content that’s come out is basically automatic mode considering the small amounts they have been and how quickly people have been able to complete them including the extremely casual players like myself who rush thru nothing quickly.

It’s one thing to try to control problems, it’s entirely another to mislead your players and keep people from being rewarded in game (which is basically what this boils down to) people play games to get rewards, that’s been a thing since the beginning. If you cut that off from happening people are just naturally not going to waste our time with it.

Also, there’s a misconception here. this game isn’t new at all, it’s been almost a year and the list of bugs keeps growing not shrinking which will also lead to smaller population. Smaller population = smaller profits.

Well my experience is complete opposite. But somehow I just cannot believe all you “lucky” people with no magic find getting exotics all day all night.

I completely agree, there’s lopsided loot system here that they’d all like us to believe is random. Random doesn’t make people get crappy drops 99% of the time while others get lots of perfect drops 99% of the time doing the same events with the same people month after month. That’s not chaos that’s a fixed ratio and it’s been manipulated since November another thing they won’t admit.

And it’s not because people don’t understand RNG either. It’s due to clear manipulation. If you have a percentage of the population that you wanted to squeeze to improve profits then you’d quietly manipulate that part of the population right? and use plausible denial to continue to the practice or an excuse for the elimination of exploiters that no longer pose a threat (bots). That’s what’s really happening.

I’ve played a large number of other titles that weren’t as well made as this one (altho they all had much better in game economies) and in all my years of playing mmo’s never had I had this so called “random bad luck” as much as I have had in this title since they adjusted the drops of everything from T6 mats to globs of ectoplasm. Never. Even in WoW when I was trying to get that 1 piece of hunter gear from the dungeons to drop because they didn’t sell any other kind in the vendors list for gear currency, I never ever had this much trouble.

So what does that tell you. I’ve played 15 mmos over about 22 years, never happened until GW2 even with Devs making adjustments to gear and rare items that dropped too often. (and no I didn’t just play WoW).

Oh how I wish they had a LOTRO farming system. That was the single best RNG system in the mmo world. I could farm mats for hours with that system. Their currency was REAL easy to get , you buy the seeds you separate the bad from good and you actually had a chance to get the rare materials alot!

It was real nice. sigh, those were the days when crafting and loot mattered.

solution to a broken market

There isn’t massive inflation like this in a balanced loot system I agree totally. I’ve been tracking certain items from the TP since November and since that time inflation has boosted about 430% so it’s continuing to rise. These items are needed and/or highly popular for the zerker burst crowd which seems to be the sole spec one needs in this game so until they fix that as well as drops this should be a great indicator of what’s happening. One item broke the 12 gold mark recently.

What needs to be done about items is T6 mats need to drop from champions and bosses like 5-10 at a time and they need to be the rare ones, like lodestones, gossamer, and even globs. That way people will have to participate in events to get these things. If more champs dropped these things then there wouldn’t be a need to bring back farming (traditional).

Right now the RNG boxes are a joke. Watched some guy with over a 100% magic find buy the ones from Orr and got 1 drop out of every 6 and these drops weren’t impressive in the slightest. I personally have tried these boxes and got nothing but the tiny droplet karma bottles and the crafting baglets from laurels aren’t any better. We need a non RNG / definite drop from boss/champion/events solution because it’s fine to hate farmers just let us know you know and people will take the hint, but play games with people specifically RNG games and you’ll lose players.

Currency is too rare when it comes to laurels to waste and karma while more abundant should be wasted either.

well if indeed new people joined they might have started making mf food which oddly works better then the armor for some. See the thing is this wasn’t a problem for other titles. The Saboteur on Rift was perfectly fine with not one but three AOE’s bursting with explosions. I never had to target the ground on that one. And no it’s not different because you can do it underwater which means they have the capacity they just don’t want the engineer to have the same fluidity and ease of use (for whatever the weird reason is) as all of the other classes including the mind numbing combat of the ranger. Seriously when will people learn from past mmo development history?

There’s just so much that fixed these problems that other devs have already tried in countless other mmo’s (and learned never to do like DR) that these people are just ignoring. It’s really not that difficult to implement, there’s already a historical precedent for most of the problems this game faces.
