(edited by tigirius.9014)
From levels 1-30 all armor looks the same and all weapons look the same in their categories.
Generally everyone looks the same.
It happens at higher level brackets too until max level..
How come all the gear is the same and my character changes very little if at all in looks until he is level 50 besides the occasional recoloring of my gear?
Now I can understand you seeing this level 1-30 because that’s pretty much true for drops.
However there’s a ton of karma vendors all over the place post level 30 with different looking gear available once you have completed the hearts. I know that because I’ve taken on some pretty kool looking steampunk stuff for my engineer.
“GW 2 takes everything you love about GW 1.”
Where? Maybe I missed it.
/threadYeah I remember hearing that and thinking “Oh my God! insert fanboying here”
Then when I got the game, it was very apparent from the get-go that it was going to be nothing like GW1. Games change, they need to change, but all in all I still prefer GW1 to GW2. Refer to my last post though because I still love GW2 as well, it just could have been made so much better if it stuck to its GW1 roots (gameplay, build customization, cash shop, mob packs, etc etc).
Hi, My name is tigirius, and I was a fanboy.
Yep couldn’t tell from all my posts huh. If you look back at my earliest ones tho you’ll notice a completely different theme to most of them.
That was before November tho. When November came along I too hoped for the best and hoped that even tho they were focusing on dungeons now that it wouldn’t be exclusively because that’s what we were all told then too. “Don’t worry even tho we have this dungeon FotM we will continue to put out content in the open world” however many months later living story was born, with content one could finish in 1 day that only lasts a month before it’s gone. How is that anywhere near permanent DEs or permanent metas added every month?
Anyway, I have to apologize for my posts on other websites including mmorpg for leading you here if I did because at that time November hadn’t happened yet and they hadn’t added DR, or the lopsided loot code to the game either.
- that they would have suddenly decided that dungeons were their new focus instead of open world permanent DEs and permanent metas every month, and then try to make up for it with lousy temporary content
Dungeons have NEVER been the focus of the game…. They are just an afterthought that was never implemented properly. There is nothing in dungeons that’s worth more than doing open world events, if you “farm” the World Bosses you will end up with more gold/loot than dungeon farming, with the sole exception of CoF P1 maybe.
If anything dungeons have been neglected since release and never got what they should have. Dungeon loot is still horrible, especially at high level fractals where you actually have to try and play the game to win (unlike anything in the open world), there is still a huge difference in rewards between dungeon paths, effort isn’t rewarded AT ALL.
And see that’s what really irks me. The whole kitten system seems so broken at this point it’s going to be impossible to make everyone happy. There are no tanks, no healers, but they focus on dungeons, but they don’t really because not all paths have equal rewards, etc.
I mean seriously, it’s like dating someone with multiple personality disorder sometimes
Yep I’ve noticed too, and that bothers me. If you’re anything other then zerker then people tell you GTFO. There are no healers no toughness tanks and no other kinds of builds to even consider because everyone wants DPS and not just any DPS but burst.
So if you come up to anyone wearing condi damage gear spsssh forget it pal they’ll laugh you back to launch day.
Now I’m not saying the entire game is a bust but there does seem to be some issues with their managerial staff concerning end game content and what that should be. It’s like everything changes overnight when you reach level 80. Ding! dungeon only time, or WvW only time because you might as well forget the rest especially if you still have that loot thing that people have been plagued with since November.
Is this game more anti-social then your average MMO? (SWTOR, WoW, Rift, etc)
I’m apparently on a full world…Anvil Rock, but I never see many people..
Everyone I see never speaks, if they do I feel like I’m talking to a 10 year old with no personality because they’re afraid I’m a predator or something.
It’s really disheartening…
Would be a lot more fun to play with friends and this lack of a social atmosphere is one of the reasons I’ve been unable to get past level 25.
D:
EDIT: For example on World of Warcraft it will take you 2 seconds to make a friend. A normal friend who doesn’t think your trying to kitten them because you spoke. It wasn’t difficult on SWTOR either to make friends. How come everyone refuses to speak or form parties on GW2?
Is it because theirs a lack of competition which means you need less close friends to help you accomplish things? Now that random guy you see wants what you want and your both going to accomplish it together without the need to form a party or have a discussion because neither of you are competing for anything…idk thats my theory.
No you still need friends trust me.
It doesn’t take long usually but there does seem to be an unspoken clique thing going on.
Add guesting to that and you get emptier servers then normal. the unofficial RP server Tarnished Coast has some people on there but I’ll warn you we have some troll transfers coming over causing trouble.
I’m the same way man but in other areas of the game.
If only I had known, __________ ,I would have never wasted my money:
- that they would have suddenly decided that dungeons were their new focus instead of open world permanent DEs and permanent metas every month, and then try to make up for it with lousy temporary content
- that instead of learning from every mmo that’s tried this and failed, they still used DR on loot and that’s only affected open world drops severely ( there’s some moderate stuff in dungeon but being cut off 99.999998% is not a good thing in open world after explaining that we would have any gameplay choice we want lead to the same rewards)
- that there will come a day when agony is expected in the new dungeon content despite re-assurances that they wouldn’t cut off content via a gear treadmill.
- that the only way they will ever fix all of the bugs and design flaws is to actually start work on an expansion with no official launch date
- that they’d only have two people (it’s gotta be) working on class balance in PVE, neither of which actually like playing an engineer (including most everyone at their company) as the main so it’s testing is very lacking
- that they’d never use the standards of successful unbiased testing every other AAA mmo out there has used successfully for years, a PTR
- that they’d cause class imbalance by not separating the behaviors between PVP PVE WVW in skills since day 1 instead of when it’s almost a year old and thus too late
- that they’d only have 85% of all new cosmetics available for RL money in the shop instead of in the game available from play not designed to require a very large guild that’s constantly online and grouped
If people go back and actually look at the videos with their interviews, they’d see what I’m talking about.
I’m mystified. How have they decided that dungeons are their new focus?
Well they did add Fractals and an entire tier of gear to the game just for dungeon players…meanwhile….WvW got a culling fix, broken ACs, and skill lag. It’s not hard to see the heavy dungeon focus in this game. Even the F&F event culminated in ANOTHER dungeon run.
It’s not hard to see, it’s the key reason they lost so many people in November it wasn’t really about the ascended armor and the promises they had made about no gear treadmill, it was really about their new dungeon focus. Watch at the end of this sequence of three living story patches, if we see a dungeon, you’ll see what I mean.
People are STILL en mass only hanging out in LA to this day for FotM.
Pretty much every major MMO on the market has SOME element of GW2 already in it. They didn’t do anything groundbreaking with this game really other than a non clunky dodge system, and possibly hearts. Everything else was borrowed from previous MMO’s. I could list examples if you want but it may have to wait until I get home from work.
I will be patiently waiting for your examples then.
DEs – Rifts zone events were much more enthralling and encompassing for me. A couple of waves of mobs from a DE is nothing to compare to an army invading from the elemental planes. They did these before GW2 ever came out. Warhammer did them before even Rift did.
WvW – Obvious, but DAoC, Shadowbane, etc.
Fractals/Dungeons – Once again, a staple of nearly every MMO since the beginning.
Personal Story – Yea, EQ and DAoC had these too, and they were better, and gave you unique items rather than some blue or green item.
sPvP – Thanks WoW for making any non siege PvP into an arena based nightmare.
Hearts – Really not groundbreaking, all they did was skip the part where you click accept at an NPC. But I’ll give them that this was a new feature for every MMO I have played personally.
Dodge System – Done by many other games before GW2, but I will say the GW2 system feels much more fluid than others. (TERA just off the top of my head, but it was so clunky!)
Weapon Skills based of Weapon Type – Yep, DAoC did this too, and not only that, you got 25 different skills to choose from. So nothing new here for GW2.
That pretty much wraps it up I think, apologies if I forgot anything anyone else considers a feature, this was a rather quick list at work as I said.
Rifts DEs, even their zone wide events are NOT what you have in Guild Wars 2. Do you know why Rift failed as a game for me.
Because they left in the traditional questing to level. People ignored Rifts and later zone events because the rewards for them were neglible. And people were kitten off because they couldn’t turn in quests to a quest guy because their zone was taken over and there weren’t enough people on their server to take it back, so they’d have to wait an hour for the zone to despawn.
I agree that when people did them they were exciting, but they were repeated every hour or so all night long, completely disrupting the entire zone. The problem is Rift did everything in half measure. They kept all the old stuff like traditional questing, raidiing and all that. Guild Wars 2 is the first game that went the whole way. Heart quests have multiple ways to fill them (something you couldn’t do in anything in Rift). Dynamic events chain, something that didn’t happen in Rift either. Some of them tell stories. They have have different conditions which can change the follow up event, none of which happened in Rift.
Please don’t try compare what this game offers with dynamic events compared to what Rift had. Sure some of the events are extremely repetitive, but some of the big event chains are far beyond anything Rift did with dynamic events.
You know we can say many things about how Rift wasn’t on par with DE’s but there are plenty of things that Rift did right that GW2 did wrong. They never limited loot or currency acquisition, they gave us mobile apps where we could hourly pick up a chance to win the end game gear currency and highest level rare materials for crafting, they had housing (I remember the home zone was supposed to change what happened to that), they have fishing and camping activities, they have cosmetics that doesn’t require a store purchase, the list of things right in Rift is not as long as the things done wrong in GW2 by any means but they actually tried to make a game for the players’ enjoyment whereas despite the claims made by the devs in this title about how they understand the problems the gamers faced with certain mmo’s they have done everything they can to the opposite of what they claimed they would do starting in the famous patch of Nov 2012 and going downhill from there. Rift added another kind of zone events other then Rifts in multiple locations and added solo dungeons as well as post max level advancement as well as other activities to help players spend more time there and enjoy their world, none of that has happened in GW2 and Rift did that just after their launch at about the same amount of time we are in GW2 lifespan right now.
Let me clarify the only reason why I personally left Rift was because I contracted a lifelong disabling disease that prevented me from being able to afford a monthly sub on any game title. That’s the only reason.

Even targeting with skills now just targets stuff that’s nowhere near me somehow the game thinks that’s the best thing to do. “Oh yeah don’t worry about the ten things right on top of you target that guy Waaaaaaaaay over there and start shooting! or better yet start swinging your melee kit at it and miss every guy attacking you right now! you’ll be fine!”
We definitely need more permanent events, they need to take away the exceedingly long timers on dragons and improve those, they need to add permanent DE’s and permanent metas to the game every month and get rid of this temporary stuff that some people cannot finish due to real life constraints.
I’d love this actually because of the way they mishandled healing on some classes the bonuses from full sets come nowhere near close enough to handle the boss fights so this would help out alot if healing could be stacked.
the rebalance the condi damage for higher damage ratios thing has been a much needed process since the first month of launch. That was when they nerfed condi damage in PVE across the board and the first time people complained about nerfs in this game en mass because of this game not being balanced by separating the coded behaviors between PVE PVP skills.
Condi damage isn’t universal on all classes either even with the highest gear some classes can have totally higher condi DoTs without even being specced for condi damage or by being in berserker gear.
Like my thief for example, all in zerker gear. Her bleeds do 20-25 more damage per tick then my all condi built engineer.
So not only is there a stack issue, there’s also a problem with the amount of damage not being equal between specs/builds. If one is in Zerker gear for example with no condi damage bonuses on the gear they should not have better condi damage then an all condi built toon of another class period, in fact these armor sets should reduce condi damage when worn because they aren’t for that specific type of damage.
This system has been around on alot of games and it allows Devs to know the reasons why people are leaving the game and not playing anymore so they can make the appropriate changes. Right now many of us are not convinced they actually read the concerns players post on the forums and this is a much needed addition to the title.
You see, in the elephant in the room, they do this all the time because they want to know why players have left. They even make major changes to their philosophy and game design to attempt to get players to come back and in a large part they are successful when they do. On their most recent expansion, they’ve reduced the nerf/buff system of balancing by making major alterations to the stats of armor for pvp. This was their #1 complaint in their previous expansion and they didn’t get this information from the forums they got it from the survey.
Anet needs a button to press to start the survey process. This would reduce significantly the number of Iquit threads in the forums and provide a medium that players will know will go directly to the dev team with their concerns.
Problem solved.
Yeah, I’ve been feeling like this lately too. I rarely see anyone anymore unless I go directly to Lion’s Arch. Even the minor cities (Divinity’s Reach, The Grove, Rata Sum for example) are almost completely empty 100% of the time. My server says busy all the time, but again, I rarely see anyone ever. Gate of Madness is the server I’m on.
It’s pretty much the condition of the game, they can’t ALL be guesting because I’m sure there are load limits on that too.
I’d say that guesting has probably made it more apparent that there’s a serious population problem than people could see before. But we’ll still have those few who will tell me I’m wrong just because I’m sure.
While I agree that sub games are overpriced, they are so not doing something magical, let me tell you. In other games that are not sub based which I will call F2P those companies make more permanent content and they do it often. There are boxes in those games (with far less RNG mind you) which means they keep more of their players for longer.
There’s also one other thing those other titles have the Anet does not, and that is the non-manipulated means of getting loot/cosmetics/pets etc in the content with far less pain and struggle making the acquisition alot more fun. (you actually get what you want without the content disappearing or it taking months upon months to get to your goals or buying into the RNG game with RL money).
PWE has miles of better benefits to their gameplay even with the concerns over the prices of their store items in the beta NWO, and they have a better economic model then Anet’s highly manipulated and over iniflated TP.
LOL hardly, what’s lacking is an enormous amount of casual gameplay, that’s what’s really lacking.
Saying hardcore is missing from a newly adjusted to hardcore game is redundant.
As a Charr engineer I would love nothing more then a boss hogg! Even if it did go only 33% speed.
You’re right no new permanent content since November. Some people will come on here and tell you that’s not true because they added like 4 de’s or something months ago but since then we’ve not seen an improvement on the dragon timers or any new metas since then.
Living story is only an experiment according to Anet so I really don’t see this as the solution considering the tiny bit of content it is when they release the LS to us and how the rewards are all in the store pretty much via RNG boxes. That’s also a contraversial topic.
This is how I feel, especially with the lopsided loot system. It’s not truly RNG when the same exact people do the same exact things and end up with wildly different if any loot at all. Like one person in a five man will have 9 items while another has 2 and the rest get junk. That’s not RNG that’s loot nerfing or loot manipulation and it’s only going to end when enough people become outraged about it.
Actually that sounds suspiciously similar to the definition of “random.” I’d be concerned if everyone got equal amounts of loot and the devs claimed it was random.
Actually no not when it happens the same exact way every single time these activities take place and with the same people involved and that’s why it’s lopsided not random.
As a pve engineer I tend to trap enemies, it’s just my play style so while solo I use a combo of caltrops, mines, big-ol-bombs and the bombs from the kit to finish them off. I have an all power condi precision set. My Runes on this set consist of +3% damage bonus and the chance for hit to cause fury and 20% fury duration. My traits include healing to cause might to nearbys, and I put a couple of points into the ability to use Elixir B when I reach 75% health so it rebuffs me.
For my healing set (when I had to deal with enormous numbers of mobs in Orr to get resources) I used a Healing Vitality Condi damage set and focused on condi damage and healing bonuses in traits.
If they had a dual spec this would be easier to do.
Spot on on the engineers list. There’s plenty there. Don’t forget that these traits don’t overlap either. The lightning effects from Static Discharge don’t actually function with tossed elixirs. The Coated Bullets actually don’t do anything to improve overall damage.
Not to mention all of the new problems with the nerfs to retaliate, confusion, and vulnerability being a joke at this point.
I agree completely. However I must point out that even if they took legendaries out of the TP they’d still have a serious problem with them not being special because of the lopsided loot rule in this title. It pretty much ensures that people have to buy the materials (T6) in the store in order to get them.
People will most likely argue that the RNG boxes they sell for laurels and for karma is the key solution for the T6 problem however, we’ve seen even with people who have the usual experience of actually receiving lots of high quality loot most of the time, still don’t receive anywhere near the amount of T6 mats necessary to prevent this from becoming a serious economic problem for players. So more RNG for an RNG problem does not an RNG solution make.
There’s plenty of real great reasons for people to be negative with all of the things missing from the game that were not only promised prelaunch, they were put on the backburner indefinitely or completely thrown out, add to that the list of problems created by ignoring bugs and game design flaws in every class, a highly manipulated economy, content is lacking in the open world, the only balance they cared about up until this last patch is PVP WvW, and the pigeonholing into only certain working builds in all classes and you’ve got really great reasons for people to complain.
In this case, it’s not naturally occurring negativity, these are well thought out and tangible problems that we’ve been expecting them to fix for almost a year now.
I like GW2, and how they tried something different, but for me, the one feature I sometimes miss, (especially for the harder content), is trinity. Some times I wish we just had a true tank + healer option. I played a healer before and it was always my favorite class. Oh how the old school days seem so bright
(Played MMOs for 14 years)
Healer for me. There are other mmo’s with the combat this one has, and they still manage to give us a more direct and highly valuable healing system that can directly repair the damage of most boss hits quickly. On here it’s like throwing level 1 dropplets of healing potions at everyone and everything is a fixed point AOE that everyone can jump out of when the bosses always (well 99% of the time) throw their DoT AOE right where the healing zone is so it’s useless too. Heck they still haven’t adapted the healing scores to actually improve healing on many of the abilities on my engineer, get a thousand healing bonus on my gear and boons, it only improves healing by 30 points per tick. Because that’s useful right? spssh. It’s no wonder everyone wants a Zerker in dungeons because the other builds are useless.
I like this post. They may make more money through RNG, but it is an incredibly disgusting way of cheating people out of their money and it ultimately drives people away. In the end, I don’t think getting more money now will help when you drive all of your customers away with dirty business.
I would be so much happier if they just sold their items at a flat rate.
Anet is starting to feel more and more like that guy in a trench coat standing in an alley that wants you to try your luck at finding the cup with a coin under it.
“It’s wonderful that they’ve got a small little army of people that are willing to actively suppress dissent. Actively lie about the game. Actively try to character assassinate people.”
I get this constantly and I agree when did it become fashionable to become the spokesperson completely lying about just how bad a business practice is. All of the subjects of loot manipulation, all items being in the store in an RNG fashion for a limited time or for a limited in game currency, and the problems of not delivering what they’ve promised…..ALL constantly attacked by a few people who might as well be PR associates for the game company.
There are two on this very thread right now rather early in the reply process that consistantly take away from these complaints and attack them from all sides telling people they are completing wrong when they know that’s not true. They Know the game is as bad as people say it is in these areas yet they consistantly deny it. I dunno what their deal is but they need to let us vent and leave the honest well thought out well experienced by many complaints alone and stop trying to convince people everything is rainbows and unicorn farts in this game. Seriously.
And people buy into what they are saying until they actually end up in the situations the rest of us have been complaining about the entire time.
I feel sorry for the new players I really do, because there is so much wrong nothing short of an expansion’s amount of funds is going to fix it satisfactorily at this point.
The RNG and these forums are awful
I don’t understand how a company can moderate their own forums in the way this company does… they have to realize that the people who volunteer to speak for Anet cost them serious money by driving people away…
I would buy lots of things from the cash shop…but not RNG items.
The quote from TotalBiscuit is great.
I looked forward to playing this game and have played since beta. Now, though i still have fun leveling alts and stuff I like to do, I’m looking and waiting for a different MMORP that is not so slimey.
Do you happen to have the link to his statement because I like listening to him on matters like this but I find his channel confusing when I search it.
Thanks in advance.
They won’t It’s not changed since launch so I wouldn’t hold my breath.
There’s just so many things wrong with the rewards system in this title there’s exactly 0 reward from just playing. Sad really. I was all excited about this title last year and now I’m too disgusted to login especially with this recent patch.
Your idea has merit tho.
Take note, What you suggested:
“Engineer
Experimental Jetpack: Dash forward, launching foes you come into contact with and granting you swiftness afterwards. Blowout 400 units. Swiftness duration 20 seconds. Dash distance 600 units. Cast time 1 second, 1.5 seconds to cover 600 units.Cooldown 150 seconds. +W”
What we’ll actually get:
“Engineer
Experimental Jetpack: Dash forward smacking foes in the head with an extremely soft and maleable fuzzy glove, land on your face for 5 second unable to move, dodge or use defensive skills, lasts 1.5 seconds + the 5 seconds of self CC”
Sorry but that’s been their design plan for engineers the whole time, lots of whimsy exactly 0 usefulness.
Well welcome to my world. Now the WVW people can feel the pain. We’ve been nerfed into the ground with many things that used to function especially on engineers which gave us protection from people burst damaging us, now that the shoe is on the other foot, people are complaining about it. Well tough luck buddy, everyone told us we were whining too much and that we needed to go play another game because this one wasn’t for us anymore, I could say the same to you guys but I have more respect for people.
All I’m saying now is that they prolly will make the change back because it’s been our observation that if it concerns the PVP people or if it concerns the dungeoneers then changes get made right away, but if anyone else points out problems boo hoo.
Raind or not, this game lacks end game.
I don’t consider level 80 zones an end game. This game does not lack end game. This game has end game that you don’t consider end game…which is significantly different.
It has end game for me. I’m sorry you can’t see it.
No it doesnt have End Game as far as most use the term for. If you literally break it down as Game you play at the end and yes everything in every mmo can be considered end game for the most part because you can do it all later.
However when most use the term end game they are referring to content that you do only at max level and traditionally challenging content(Ex Raids).
Currently in GW2 we have Fractals to an extent and Arah, otherwise nothing else. GW2 forums have this theme of getting hung up on improper words and instantly associating them with WoW in a heart beat. What really this topic is about is challenging content is needed, not exactly end game but it would at the least be something like fractals where you could get by on maybe the lowest difficulty but otherwise need max level because if its challenging then it means youl want the extra stats.
Challenging, lots of it, with rewards that no one ever buys from the shop, ever. That includes tickets for cosmetics only from boxes sold in the TP, those came from the shop too.
That’s what I mean when I say end game and I also mean them fulfilling their promise of “all roads lead to the same end” which is so not true right now with lopsided loot (not RNG), with currencies you can’t get alone (you know because even guildies have lives and aren’t always online), with temporary content, and with slow laurel acquisition (where’s the retro at?). And that’s beside the other multiple assundry things they decided to halt production on after telling us for 7 years they’d do them, like perma DE’s perma metas every month, mobile/web apps, more then 2 mini games etc.
REALLY hate to say this (no I don’t) but everyone’s had their time in this game but the casuals. It’s time for perma DE’s and perma metas monthly. We’ve had dungeons, we’ve had wvw updates, we’ve had sPVP updates, It’s definitely our turn, and please don’t insult our intelligence by saying that the living story is our turn because that’s so not why casuals bought this game trust me.
(edited by tigirius.9014)
To be honest all of the living stories were boring and the super adventure game box was just a silly experimentation. Can we please do some more work on the boring skills system?
I was actually thinking that they should do more permanent DE/meta content monthly.
And expand their team working on class balance so it’s not like 2-4 guys sitting around talking about pvp and only focusing on the most favored of classes in the game.
Well let’s see I’d add polearm for the engi/ranger still waiting on my steampunk stuff to arrive, the stuff they have in the game is close but not really there yeah know.
And for just the engi tho I’d add the bazooka (a real one not the nerfed racial) and chainsaw/drill to the toolkit.
I’m not the type to buy these chests in any game and I kinda find it an insult for them to be making this the only method of getting good cosmetics other then the guild mission thing, I mean really now? It’s bad enough that I’ve followed the TP for 9 months on the same items and found that they’ve tripled their inflation since January but now this. WOW just wow. And I just don’t get how people think that it’s perfectly fine that this is going on.
Trying to explore Malchors Leap but every single waypoint save the one at the start is always contested meaning a single death forces me to re-tread the entire zone, which is annoying. I am playing on Northern Shiverpeaks and every zone seems dead of people all the time but when I look at world selection they all say very high, so either the world selection doesnt help, or the zone just sucks.
Are there any servers with more people wandering around the zones? Getting tired of being completely alone on every map, it was a lot more fun when there was other people romping around too, and maybe a few waypoints wont be perma-deathed
People keep guesting to Tarnished Coast I guess for the type of people there. RPers tend to make for a better crowd usually and since guesting has begun I’ve noticed my server is booming with people from everywhere.
that stupid living story reminder sitting on my screen forever they’ve gone and replaced it with a Southsun one.
You sent me an email informing me of the southsun festivities, I know about it, thanks. You don’t need to plant a constant reminder in front of me every second I’m logged in that somethings going on in southsun.
The only reason I completed character story and living story on my main chars was to get rid of that stupid text.
Didn’t we ask them to do this the last time when this thing started? Make it toggle? Another example of them not reading the forums methinks.
I dont think any former sub based game that goes F2P will be much of a competition for a F2P based game. However, other F2P based games might give GW2 competition, like Neverwinter Online, which I personally enjoy alot at the moment.
One of the other games I like and play because PWE has been doing the F2P thing for a very long time and knows that people are more likely to spend money if you don’t completely cut off in game sources of income for players (DR).
The best economies in the current mmo’s out there are from CoH and STO, NWO will become the next one as soon as it’s in full launch (many people are holding off until beta is over).
I think GW2 could pull off the ‘Raid-like’ feel if they would make the big DE chains visible on the entire map. Half the time you don’t even know they’re happening because you aren’t in range, unless someone announces in /map.
Make it a toggle on/off in the UI to show all the map’s DE’s.I played Rift for the two week free trial or lvl14 whichever came first. Gear grind + drama = opposite of fun. I almost went back until I heard about the release of GW2. I haven’t looked back and don’t regret pre-ordering this game a year ago, April.
There is still a lot of room for improvement but I like the concepts and co-op feel.
I had the same issues on GW2 with the map notifications being out of range. If one makes a big map to run around on without mounts, then give people indicators about where stuff is happening because most of the time even with a permaswift on you don’t make it in time to do anything.
Not that it’s worth it considering the loot/currency issues in this game spssh.
So with Rift going f2p in June , how do you guys think it will affect the gw2 player base,if at all. The reason I ask this is, Ive heard hundreds of times where people say gw2 is fun/good but there is no good " end-game" content ie raids and such. To which I usually say, that the entire thing is like that with the world events and such. But I can understand what they mean and it’s true, there rly isn’t anything raid-like in gw2 that would scratch that itch. So with Rift going f2p will we lose a chunk of our player base that will only return when there is new content? Similar to WoW and it’s expansions?
I guess this is more of a concern rather than a question. It’s pretty epic seeing huge ZvZ in WvW and hundreds of ppl rushing the dragons.
I’m not even thinking anything raid like. I’m excited about this because it has all of the elements I thought would be in GW2 by now being that it’s almost a year later AND the adventurer (scout) class I was playing in Rift doesn’t suffer from ANY of the PVE nerfs and problems imposed on us Engineers who wish to be explosives focused because the Devs have priority/favoritism issues in fixing the class, specifically the PVE nerfs, the problems with explosives not doing anywhere near the damage they should, and the imposed problems of requiring a hand breaking mechanic to the #1 ability in the grenade kit.
When I played the Rogue Saboteur on Rift, they did initially make the mistake of nerfing the sab just like they did in this game with explosives engineers because people in PVP were too lazy to think up ways of defending themselves against this type of attack, but they quickly fixed it within a two month period and they NEVER hindered gameplay by forcing the sab to require a ground target attack for it’s main attacks that no other class has ever had to deal with.
They also didn’t limit currency. Remember all those plans in GW2 prelaunch to have mobile apps? Rift’s had one since the beginning. I used to spend hours while at work on that thing gathering currency for gear/cosmetics thru logging in and playing their mobile games.
I wonder how they’ll handle their already in game housing and fishing system on Rift. That’s another thing missing from GW2, they make this beautiful world in GW2 and there’s nothing to do but RP to enjoy it. Most of it is spent running around doing combat which really doesn’t give you time to appreciate it.
I think if there’s anyone left doing anything other then PVP on GW2 this might spell trouble considering the sheer number of problems many of us have faced with the lack of development in this title post launch to flesh out the world, and to fix design flaws in the classes.
Gambling is the wagering of money or something of material value on an event with an uncertain outcome with the primary intent of winning additional money and/or material goods. Gambling thus requires three elements be present: consideration, chance and prize.
i’d say it is safe to assume that 99.9% of the reason they are buying them is because they want the weapon skins…that does have a chance of not showing up, so for the weapon skin…it is gambling
Consideration: You have the choice of choosing to buy chests, or not to buy them.
Chance: It is not 100% that you will get a weapon skin
Reward: Weapon Skinit is indeed gambling, only for the weapon skin however
I agree, add to that the insult of having nothing but group events for every other type of cosmetic thing and we indeed have the situation where it’s not longer a choice of play they claim this year would be all about. Seriously, if these were stated items and the only thing you could do was join in your own guild when everyone was online to do anything or buy them from the store people would be up in arms about it most definitely.
But since they are cosmetic people let it slide and spread the disingenuous argument that somehow it’s different and perfectly fine. Unfortunately it’s not illegal.
LOL what’s weird is I just heard some funky 1970’s bell bottoms music pop into my head when I saw your screenie.
Once again the naysayers have entered the fray saying “no the games fine” we’ll see.
It’s just another thing that’s problematic. Cosmetics only available with tickets are a money grab seriously. Entire sets this is just ridiculous, and anything new in game requires hours of work to get. (guild/laurels) so might as well play for over a year in some cases or pay gold that’s about as balanced an approach to this as the way they’ve balanced PVE classes. no surprise there.
yep. To quote Jayne from Firefly
“Ten percent of nothin’ is, let me do the math here… nothin’ and a nothin’, carry the nothin’… "
Pretty much what those boxes are imo. a complete waste of time and money.
I don’t play WvW but I can well imagine how these traps will affect other players if they added the ones that would hinder the players combat. (not talking stealth you can still kill without stealth).
They already have a massive issue with open world explorations and exploration completion because people abuse the jumping puzzles and the machinery they can use now to keep people from getting their goal. I can see why they changed that location if it was part of it, however it doesn’t fix the “exploration is neither a hardcore or a PVP activity” or the “people can still grief those trying to finish an achievement” problems that come with having exploration achievements required for completion of the game content or for acquisiton of legendary items.
That’s the issues I have with it. Make it a separate completion from world completion for the mists and make it only mandatory to finish the exploration of the pve world for legendaries, that would fix this whole thing.
Is it me, or is socialising in guilds all but dead? Everyone always says they are “busy”, I mean c’mon, am I the only one here who can bend my mind more than one way?
The entire POINT of guilds is to bring people closer together and form bonds so that you don’t have to play games alone, but let me tell you, if you consider yourself too busy with farming for that, really, useless legendary skin to even say HELLO, then you are doing it WRONG. Really, I don’t care how busy you are – It takes you like, 2 seconds to type “hi” if someone says hello – You ALWAYS have enough time for that, it works for me, and it can work for YOU too.
And don’t tell me I just have to find guilds using vent or mumble, some of us are not too comfortable using voices with people we’ve never seen and hardly know. I always show a bit of humanity towards my fellow guildes, and not only that, towards ANYONE who makes my game fun – Don’t forget the MULTIPLAYER part in “MMO”
All I ask for is to see some actual care, like I try to show others. Because at the end of the day, MMO’s is about having fun with others, if all you want is the best shinies then you might as well play single player games instead.
Sincercly, a person who cares.
Feel the same way. The other day someone was setting up a bounty run, I asked over and over and whispered people and they started without me no indication of where to go or anything. Yeah thanks for that.
What’s sad is this is the only way to get cosmetics from the game other then spending money.
Fun game thanks.
Try to do something solo spssh impossible, forget it. Because people have an overinflated sense of what an mmo actually is. News flash people have been making mmo’s for years now with solo content in them, one shouldn’t have to be in a group or guild to progress even with cosmetics or currency, these kinds of things result from experimentation instead of an actual knowledge of sociology in mmos. Just another experiment I guess. (Let’s see if people will actually work together towards a common goal) like that’s ever worked before in an mmo setting. The other thing that gets me about this is we’re told it’s the game of choices, that we can play any way we wish and get to the same end game rewards, nope, not when you’re forced into groups.
I play three other mmo’s and those never hinder me when my other guildies aren’t online, I can do stuff with a global LFG system in place that places me with people doing things that give me and them guild currency without a hitch, I’m never in a bind trying to find some guild that doesn’t die off suddenly or that stops functioning because GW2 hasn’t fixed the GM’s class after 8 months and so he leaves breaking up the coops.

I agree explorations is hardly rewarding. It was the first month, you could go out and find treasure chests in places and get a rare or exotic because they had a champion protecting it. (do you really think Champions would be defending a box full of copper, some blues and maybe a green item? spssh not!)
No it wasn’t during the first month, loot drops from Champions and world chests are exactly the same, despite Anet saying they buffed Champion loot. What actually changed is the addition of the guarandeed rare chest in World Boss events, nothing else.
The chests of which I speak aren’t from killing champions they were GUARDED by champions. Difference there.
That’s what I meant by chests, not the mini wooden ones they added later for killing champions but the ones they guarded. I used to go around Orr and get the chests all the time (not always easy) at launch and get the items from them, poof Nov came along and greens if you’re lucky blues most of the time.
That is part of the early outrage over the open world loot changes, they took that out too, it didn’t matter to Anet if you had to traverse a jump puzzles, fight a champion or a champion/veteran just to get to the chest, they changed them ALL to drop crap.
there’s alot that is taken for granted that players just simply know suddenly after every patch I totally agree. I spent hours the other night looking for new cosmetic items on google and guildhead trying to find out if they added new non-shop items to the cosmetic gear and couldn’t find anything so I had to post a forum post just to get that information from other players.
If they had a better guide for things that have been added since launch, with links like ranger pets, cosmetic items, minis, content starter locations, requirements for dungeons and new dungeon gear, etc they’d have an easier time getting people more informed it couldn’t hurt, it can only improve gameplay because people could easily see whats needed or where to start.
There were things about the last previous living story I didn’t know to do because I had no central location from which to find this info on the web.
Even Blizz has done this you can go to their webpage to this day and look this kind of stuff up for free (and not even as a player of their game) but one can see the additions they made and how to get them or what to do.
Never understood that about Anet they aren’t very good at keep in touch centrally with the public about anything. We had to complain to get patch notes, complain to get info in the main forums instead of reddit, complain to get someone to talk to us on the forums about major in game issues. Why.
agreed however they still haven’t fixed engineers we have the hobo backpack look, what would the CEO of Abercrombie say! GASP! LOL
We need more backpacks period and if they’re equipped they need a graphic that’s all there is to it.
LOL! Just like the trees always having sex year round! GAH!
You forget that the temples in Orr and in fact Orr itself has recently been made harder. And all you hear are the farmers complaining they can’t farm it anymore. Farmers aren’t necessarily casual players. They’re players with a particular play style. They don’t care about or particularly want challenge. They want faceroll content that they can farm. The new changes kitten them off.
It’s not casuals who are necessarily the ones insisting content be easier. There are many different demographics that contribute to this.
Farmers are just as much players as anyone else. We bought the game like everyone else. Now that that’s said….The people who farm events aren’t the same calibor as the type of farmer I am.
I farm mats so that I can craft or sell the mats so I can actually make some money, but with DR and the problems that it imposes it makes it impossible to farm even events not because they made them harder but because after only a few kills suddenly the event enemies put us into DR without any way of knowing how long it will last, how to get out of it, and in some cases it’s account wide.
I can see why now you are so against threads about loot, makes sense to me now, bigotry is not pretty.
As far as OP, it’s not casual man. It’s the most casual you’ve played I’m sure, but it’s far far far from casual and by not being so, by now delivering what they told us open world would be post launch, the game hasn’t become casual either. Living story doesn’t cutit. They need to put into the game the permanent DE’s and metas monthly like we were told they’d do before they changed direction completely in Nov 2012. Between that and adding the activities we were expecting in our home zone, and in cities across Tyria complete with non-store cosmetic and pet rewards would MAKE this game casual, it hasn’t reached that stage yet.
Not to mention the threat of an agony filled open world experience ( until they say otherwise ) for new future content.
I wrote a thread asking about new cosmetics. There’s only one new set since launch, apparently that one can achieve in game without spending a dime (keeping in mind loot issues many of us still have) and that’s guild events items. That says alot! That means they are churning out shop only cosmetics. That’s also not honest in my eyes considering other games who are F2P allow for the acquisition of the currency needed for these items easily. There is no DR and loot manipulation in these other titles, you do something easy and directly and bam you get your currency, you save your currency long enough and bam you get your item, and these other games have boxes too mind you they aren’t stupid they do the whole gambling thing and the items in the boxes are separate from the ones in the game but, there are fewer of them in boxes and they aren’t necessary for cosmetics for armor/weapons. The look of the character can totally be gained in these other titles without paying money. That’s not the case for GW2 I’m afraid.
So I guess I’m agreeing with part of your assessment there OP.

My husband and I have been dealing with the extremely and violently slanted laws regarding family legal requirements in this country and it’s wrong in almost all cases against men. The women in these cases can simply spout any lie they wish, take people to court for completely fabricated nonsense and if the man chokes while talking to the judge they’re instantly considered monsters. Not to mention everything that’s wrong with transversing state lines to kidnap your kid from his/her father while he’s out to sea serving his country. That’s pretty much what happened to him, he was serving, came home early, found her in bed with another man, found his child screaming in pain with a dirty diaper in the other room, and had to leave the next two days to go back out to sea only to find out that this woman took his child to her parents house while he was serving again and she waiting until he was in a war zone to issue divorce papers. Talk about a messed up legal system.
I feel for you man I really do. Let us know which server you’re on. You’re definitely not alone.
