agree with you here OP. only problem i have with the map is the lack of waypoints since if you die at blue or amber you got to literally run across the entire map to get back.

other then that everything else is excellent, wish orr was like this.

I wonder if you’ll be able to build another WP somewhere if you reach higher defense tiers, like at 4th maybe. That’s, more or less, how it works in WvW. Overall, i haven’t found it to be big of an issue for me so far, i see people usually rez each other, ofcourse sometimes if it’s too hot you have to leave people to die. Also map is not big, so it won’t take you long to get back, except that considering how packed it with action, you’ll prolly get sucked into something along the way anyway.

I 100% agree, i wish Orr was like that, it really gives you the feeling of full scale war happening.

PS. I also really like the design of the new mobs. Those little beasts, menders, are funny and creepy as hell.

As for old Maguuma Wastes in GW1, yes it looked somewhat different, especially in terms of colors. But considering how well Dry Top and Silverwastes done, the quality of art work there, i really can’t complain, Maguuma never looked that good, that was one area in GW1 which i never really liked, with few exceptions. But here, those maps are gorgeous.

I was playing it for about 20 mins and tbh can’t hold it much longer. I think the map is just brilliant. The events, the whole idea to bring WvW mechanics there, the dynamics, the fights themselves (the one inside Indigo Cave is super fun), the Donate to our Cause thingy — such a neat idea. And in terms of visuals and audio the map is stunning. Landscape is beautiful and small, often hilarious, conversations all over the place at starting camp — top notch work, including voice acting. Man, i haven’t enjoyed this game so much since, probably, beta. I don’t know about story and all yet, but that map is just yeah baby!

PS. It also helps a great deal that i haven’t encountered zergs of 11323434 ppl yet, which is weird. Perhaps they lowered pop cap, or just people spread across the map so evenly now because of the mechanics.

@Yoroiookami.3485 Test it in the mists.

Just quick example. Cleansing Wave (#5 on dagger and on dodge if you have Evasive Arcana) does 1402 healing with bers amu, and 1841 with cele amu. It’s partially the reason why cele ele is so strong in PvP right now etc.

As to, is it worth it. As i said above, it depends. In WvW and PvP, depending on your spec and role, it is worth it. In PvE no, usually. Except that one case in high level FotM, i can’t think of anything else.

If healing power had an effect on outgoing healing it might be run more often.

But it does. Compared to how HP scales with dedicated healing skill, it scales well with regular skills, like empower, ele water skills etc., traited mesmer mantras probably as well, blasts on water fields etc.

Actually even in high level FotM people sometimes like to have one celestial guardian, or ele, or engi. Used to be that way, at least.

The whole event meta that goes down in Dry Top is a great design and one thing I would really like to see is the buried locked chests coming to every zone.

Yea. So far it’s the best map in GW2, just because of it’s mechanics, how everything works. I wish old maps were like this. It’s funny that, while the map technically is small, it doesn’t feel that way really, partially due to a lot of verticality in it’s design, but also because of how it filled with all kinds of stuff to do. The whole chest thingy, reminds me, a little bit, of chest runs in GW1.

Imo the problem here is not necessary in HP itself, but maybe in the way gear distributed across different areas of the game. HP not useless at all in WvW (org. raids) and PvP. However in PvE it’s a joke as many other stats and stat combos. Imo only viable stat combos should be obtainable through a certain areas of the game. I.e. in PvE you should be able to get only Bers, Assassins etc. stats, it makes no sense when a person gets to M. Leap, finishes Temple of M. event and at karma vendor he’s able to get what? Some useless crap like Magi’s gear or something like that. Potato probably wouldn’t even make this video if that was the case, because he wouldn’t be doing some silly researches like that, out of boredom, that would be a feature of GW2, intended design, while now, instead, it’s just yet another design flaw.

That wasn’t an excuse, that was just a thing i wanted to point out. In my mind a racist is a very different thing from a stupid kid only talking same stupid kitten, every other stupid kid he knows talks in his neighborhood or whatever. I think those are 2 different problems.

Reminds me. There’s a well known PvP streamer, who lives in NA, but until recently was playing on EU. After he went back to NA one of the first things he said: “there’s so much bm on NA compared to EU.”

Could be not necessary a racism, could be just low culture level, lack of education, some kid throwing around stuff he hears around in his natural habitat. Plus afaiu it’s ok to use that N word for black people, so how do you know etc. As for Taidha, never heard anything like that on Taidha, not like i do it often, but never heard anything like that about Scarlet either, this reminds about another similar topic where OP was upset about usage of the G word and homosexuals being mistreated or whatever. I also had no clue what he was talking about. I dunno, i play on EU and maybe on NA it’s a zoo like that, but i haven’t seen any or much of a crap like that. Maybe i just don’t really pay attention, who knows, but i remember i said that to some of my friends and they were just as surprised as me.

What happens later — who knows, maybe you’ll still like it, maybe you’ll get bored, but there’s no sub fee, so you shouldn’t be worried about that.

That only happened if the MM happened to DIE during the cutscene. Back in GW1, if the controlling MM died, any surviving minions did not instantly die; instead they became hostile to anyone and everything around them. This script did not go away even if the entire party was locked in a cutscene, so if the script killed the player as part of a scripted event, it would cause the minions to go postal.

Are you sure? I remember this very vividly, i doubt there were many, if any, cutscenes where our character dies. oO I think during cutscenes minions were just loosing association with their master and thus becoming just common mobs and thus starting attacking everyone.

Unfortunately, I don’t see ANet redesigning GW2 stats especially because a return to the GW system would kitten off people who spent all that time and/or gold making Ascended crud.

Maybe not go back to the old system (besides, i don’t think that’s needed), but just work on current one. I.e., Blizzard changes things in every expansion.

No. In PvE we have 2323454656 stat combos while only one is viable. In PvP plenty of combos/amulets are used and completely viable. Same goes to runes btw.

Yes, i completely agree, came to same conclusions some time ago. GW2’s stat system works better in PvP and there it allows to achieve some variety and flexibility, but in PvE it’s just all over the place, way too many junk stats and stat combos and the only thing they can do is to mislead inexperienced players and hinder their performance. Used to be even worse back when magic find used to be on gear as well. AN doesn’t stop here, however, recently introduced nomad stat combo, again in PvE where it have zero use. That stat combo theoretically could be useful for someone in WvW, but why it’s obtainable in and through PvE is just escapes me completely. The only answer i can come up with is bad design. They could clean it up in some update, in theory. That’s not unheard of.

GW2 and Rare Treasures

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: wasted.6817

wasted.6817

On a more personal note, do you, O forumite, like/dislike having extremely rare items in the MMOs you play? If you do like them, do you prefer extremely rare items to be earned, won, obtained by chance — or something else?

Is GW2 good, bad, or average in regard to extremely rare items and the ways in which they may be obtained?

What is the most extremely rare (but still obtainable) item in GW2?

Which is better — a common easily-obtained item that looks great or an extremely rare item that looks awful (and can’t be sold)?

Bonus Round:

The most rare (and profitable) items I’ve received so far were the jetpack thing and a second Celestial dye. I’m guessing that puts me on the low end of the ‘luck’ scale.

How about YOU? What are your most hard-earned treasures and/or lucky acquisitions? If the items were hard-earned, did you have fun earning them? If they were lucky drops, did you do the Snoopy dance (or something similarly jubilant) when they dropped for you?

Imo extremely rare items should be earned or won, if by chance, then from some certain and very limited area of a game. Adds identity and incentive to explore and play different areas of a game.

GW2 is definitely bad in that regard. Everything is all over the place through rng or just generic grind, or lately more often cash . No identity, no incentive, some twisted and kittened up mix of capitalism and communism.

Prolly those first Halloween items.

The better looking item always… better in my book.

The most profitable item for me was the permanent bank contract from black lion chest, went for ~600g.

Publicly announced, March 2014. I saw the announcement too. Just because you didn’t see it doesn’t meant that they aren’t communicating. Or do you expect the devs to show up at your house, log onto the website, and read the announcement out loud to you?

What’s good in communication if it fails to do exactly this, to communicate. What if person doesn’t even read forums. Do i have to manually keep track of every red post at all times. Regardless, i’am glad i was wrong about this one, even in retrospective.

wasted.6817

1)What’s currently being done about it?
2)Has it been scrapped? If so, why?
3)If not, when can we expect it?

It’s much simpler for me. Some time during the 2013 AN said they’re gonna make a scavenger hunt for precursor. Since then i sorta waited. Closer to the end of 2013 they said it’s probably won’t make it this year, i naturally assumed that then it’s prolly coming some time ~early in 2014. But it didn’t and there were no news about it. Anyway. Some time during second half of 2014 i decided to finally go for it, precursor was double the price of 2013 at this point etc. Then all that crap about AN not communicating happened, shortly after the China release.

Only thing i have to say about this is. Whats’s wrong with telling your plans to community and then if something’s not coming and not working, to just come forward and say, look, it’s not coming in near future, there’re multiple complications, we can’t make it for now, it will be done some time later etc. and etc. or not done at all for whatever reason. Instead they treat community with silence and ignoring it completely (the issue i described here is just a single case, there were multiple, there’s a pattern), then they say it’s the company policy to not say anything at all ever. Because community is so bad. Community gets all angry when you don’t do things you said you will. How much more hypocrite things can get really.

So, it’s nothing big really, it wasn’t on that list in 2013, it’s not on that list in 2014 (kinda makes sense, 2013 seems to be a stronger year for GW2 compared to 2014). Unless, maybe it’s because GW2’s revenue data (cash shop part of it) might not be available for whatever reason to the source of that list, and that’s why it never was on that list.

Why do you think long gaps of time doing nothing will be better appreciated then short gaps?

It’s just my experience from other MMO games, including GW1 and it’s common sense for me. When you look back and see what’s actually in the game, it’s crystal clear how little LS managed to deliver so far compared to what a traditional expansion usually delivers. And i believe it’s the same experience for a lot of other people. Expansion supposed to bring substantial, meaningful, replayable content. LS, so far, mostly failed on every account, with few partial exceptions, like Tequatl and Wurm, and Marionette, but that’s gone now.

Personally I’d rather have content every 2 weeks and an expansion every 3 years then long stretches of no content and an expansion every 2 years (assuming living story will push content back by a whole year which probably isnt the case considering the LS team is just 20 people out of over 350!)

2014 wasn’t about bi-weekly updates, was it? 2014 was about very moderate amount of content stretched very thin, unless episode 2 proves me wrong. Overall it’s not a bad option of course, what you described, but have we heard any kind of announcement or even some sort of comments from devs? Right now, it’s a general assumption at this point, that it’s probably coming, but for all you know it might as well not be coming at all, like ever xP.

Another thing, let’s just say, that GW1 used to have expansions released in 6 months, others in 1 year. It’s not always 2 years.

I dont think anyone is saying lets not have a no expansion ever. Its more along the lines of an expansion alone wouldnt solve content problems because it would most likely result in a huge gaps of time with nothing to do but waiting for the expansion to drop.

Now an Expansion and living story together… ahhhh thats beautiful.

I think some people are saying exactly this and some saying that it’s no rush, let’s take it slooow, which i would mind that much if it wouldn’t be for that long after release now. Huge gaps of time with nothing to do? Well, people, those who actually play GW2 all this time, they do something , right? You’re still catering to that myth that expansion won’t fix or add anything in the long run, but that’s not true. Expansion will make it so, that for some period of time there will be lots of new things to experience for every kind of player and there will be much more content in the game overall, in the long run.

Google trends or not, the simple fact right now is that game never felt that empty. Day after start of Halloween, 10 ppl doing Mad King says, dead chat and ~2 not full maps farming Lab at evening. This is new and imo, no matter how you look at it, it’s not a good sign.

You were probably in a new or older Map thread. At any given time there are TONS of maps open for major hubs like LA. Just saying what you experience is not necessarily the experience of others.

Map threads? I thought that maybe they lowered cap for LA or i just end up in newer instances, but that wasn’t the case before, i started to notice the difference only during last month or so.

We had five guildies on five maps all farming it, none two together…and the reason they were on those maps is because when we tried to get in together they were full.

Good, if it’s like that, however my experience was that i was able to join only couple of maps through LFG and then my party were constantly taxing people in for the whole duration of my run (30-40 mins). Probably it was a little too late in the evening or something.

About definition of a fact. Lab maps aside (that was an assumption and i’am glad it seems to be wrong), it’s merely what i’am seeing in LA. This experience is drastically different for me from previous Halloweens, or are you in LA full of chatter and tons of people doing Mad King says? If you say that’s because people farming Lab etc., but they always were farming Lab etc. What changed then, if it’s not just less players around?

PS. And there’s a thread about Lab where people describing experience similar to mine. Perhaps that assumption wasn’t wrong after all.

2 weeks is perhaps a little exaggerated although true for some hardcore players. For most people a couple of months is more likely.

This might be true about some people, but it’s a ridiculous overexaggerating when arguments like this are used as a justification for no expansion philosophy. This “expansion, lack of content” topic was around for how long now? A year and a half? Those are not your mythical players who burn through content and go on complaining, those are tired veteran players mostly. The image you’re tying to create, those people, would rush through and just move on, if that’s their thing, they do not post on forums for years.

People pay $40 for a console game, then consider it descent if they get 40 hours of gameplay out of it.

People pay $40 for Guild Wars 2, and after spending thousands of hours in the game, they complain about lack of content.

I don’t even.

Yes, more content would be nice. Yes, not removing content would be nice. Yes, other MMOs love to recolor older content, change some numbers and pretend it’s new content. No, Guild Wars 2 doesn’t need any of that.

Players ask for a new continent, players get a new continent, players complain about having to explore a new continent. Let’s take this moderately, shall we?

Eh? It probably was 60$, but whatever. Wtf you’re bragging about anyway? Your point is, let’s play 40 hours and leave GW2 for good? Or what? Yes, more content would be nice. No, GW2 doesn’t need any of that. Where’s logic in this? People complain about exploring new continent. What? Let’s take it moderately, shall we? They could ofcourse bring old dungeon and RR back, i dunno what’s the deal there.
