Unfortunately, what WvW is, is PvD, PvW and sometimes PvS. EotM is essence of this, the map looks gorgeous, but it’s a braindead run-in-circles marathon.

A very welcome change indeed. One can only hope that, maybe, some day we will get to choose districts like it was in GW1 and that AN will manage to merge EU and NA one day…

Yes. Someone sent me 50g once, time ago when 50g were a lot of gold, i sent it back. Yesterday i dc’ed after the last boss fight in AC, one person in our party sent me 13 silver, because he/she thought i didn’t get the reward. But i did, so i sent it back with my thanks. Sometimes you meet surprisingly decent and nice people.

One thing AN really good at is announcing. One can just look to what original GW had after 1,5 year and make conclusions. There’s nothing to talk about here, everything is obvious at this point.

Why must people keep shouting expansion?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: wasted.6817

wasted.6817

Those expansion topics keep popping up because people want something substantial added to this game for a long time now, they’re tired and nearly burned out of the existing content in this game, and frankly living story just doesn’t cut it. LS can be an awesome addition to the regular expansion type add ons, but in it’s current form it can’t possibly replace an expansion. It’s a nice little bonus content, nothing more, and AN been feeding us it for 1,5 years now, and will continue to do so. Happened exactly what i was afraid will happen, when the news about AN focusing on LS and not planning expansion in near future had arrived. I would’ve been out of this game, at this point, long time ago if there was another decent MMO out there, unfortunately there isn’t, and it doesn’t look like one is coming in near future… so yeah.

You can always just post your own ad, without any specific requirements, you know. And enjoy that challenge “no matter how great it becomes” all you want. What’s the problem? This low AP thingy can become a problem in more challenging content, such as higher level FotM, but in most regular dungeons, such as AC or CoF, barely anyone will care as long as you’re not terribad.

Guild Wars 2 PVE Thoughts/Discussion

Good points all around, i think i can agree with all of them. There’s hope that situation with Fractals will be resolved somehow, considering the latest CDI topic about FotM, but i think regular dungeons will stay in their current f’ed up state, probably, forever. It is an interesting idea to make regular dungeons part of the FotM experience and if implemented right it probably would do good for the game, but, unfortunately, i don’t see this happening.

Can anyone really see through the clutter?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: wasted.6817

wasted.6817

There are a lot of “parts” in this problem.

1. The amount of particle effects on the screen is still too high even with Effect LOD on, players need more control over this, slider would be perfect.

2. Lots of bosses have small models, no distinct animations, effects on animations and graphic/sound effects on skills. Thus it’s often impossible to tell what is going on with all the clutter, the boss himself often is not visible at all, i.e. during priest of Melandru fight, all you can see is 123445657678 particles and sometimes a white silhouette of a priest appears for a second. How it should be done, one could see, for example, in Tera. Big mobs, distinct animations for skills plus graphic and sound effects for especially dangerous attacks.

3. And last, the particle effects scale with the mob’s model. The bigger the mob, the bigger the effects are. Like, instead of a normal fire blast on Sigil of Fire proc you will get a freaking napalm carpet bombing effect all over your screen, etc.

Game shallowness caused by lack of teamwork

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: wasted.6817

wasted.6817

I think OP just used the wrong word. It’s not like roles force anything on you, it’s just they promote teamwork, create favorable environment for socializing, makes it easier, gives you sort of a formal reasons to put people in friend list, invite them, talk to them, and in this process you can get to know them and eventually become friends. It’s just like in real life. OP most definitely have a point there.

Boss Mechanics: suggestions.

in The Origins of Madness

Posted by: wasted.6817

wasted.6817

1. Instead of just using timers as main and basic mechanic in your boss fights (Wurm, Teq), you could make it enrage timers. When time is up boss’s going into enrage mode and starts slaughtering ppl. Now, technically, the result, in most cases, will be the same, but this way it will feel and look more natural, than the simple, time’s up, you failed, pack your things and go home. And another, more important, thing, this will create opportunities for some amazing situations. Imagine, boss is at 5% hp left and he goes into enrage, starts slaughtering ppl, and remaining players manage to finish him, throwing hats and boots at him in last, desperate attempt to finish him, or fail in doing so and last one dies, leaving boss with 0,5% of hp. How cool is that? Imo, much more exciting than it is now.

2. There’s a topic, where ppl ask AN to extend timer on second Wurm phase. There’s a bug where wurm’s head is invulnerable for some period of time and AN’s gonna fix it. However, i believe, the main reason for such request from players, is that second phase have strong RNG element in it. Like in which pattern boss will move: if you get lucky, then it won’t move to far corners of the area and you will have enough dps time on him, and, if all is good, you will kill him, but if not, if he does go too far, and then again, and again, then you will be pretty much screwed. And there are 3 fight like that, happening simultaneously on the map. Now, i think most ppl will agree that such strong RNG factor in a challenging encounter like the Wurm one is not cool. It’s not cool to spend 2-3+ hours on organizing and stuff only to get “unlucky” in the end, and then again, and again. Because, remember, there are 3 fights needs to get “lucky” all at the same time, after all. I believe extending the timer can somewhat trivialize the encounter, like if you get lucky you will burn it to the ground no matter what etc. Instead, AN could limit the maximum distance each head can travel in one go, so it won’t get away that easily from your zerg to the other, far, side of the area, and so on, effectively leaving you with little to no chances to do enough dps on boss, just because you didn’t have enough dps time on him.

3. Overall, the way timers are implemented in Teq and Wurm fights is ok. However, in general, i dislike such mechanic and i hope AN won’t abuse it in future fights, it’s sort of a lazy way to do one. Like, for example, Wurm fight uses 3(!) timers during it’s course. There are more creative ways to design an encounter, as an example you can look at how Mari fight designed.

My 2 cents.

wasted.6817

You must consider that EotN was PvE only expansion, no PvP features were added. Lot’s of art were simply re-used or recycled. Personally i consider EotN to be the worst expansion for GW and basically the death of original GW. However, it is true, that, so far, content released for GW2 can’t compare in quantity and quality to GW1 style expansions.

Difficulty of Marionette/ Jungle Worms

in The Origins of Madness

Posted by: wasted.6817

wasted.6817

Except the silly art direction, i really like the M. fight, me and my friend call it a Robot. It’s intuitive, it’s intense, it offers several roles for players to fill and those roles complement each other, and this creates some sort of player bond on the map, it have a window for skillful play and not just zerg bashing. I enjoy it.

I did couple of tries on Wurm with TxS alliance. It was fun. However, as i don’t fully understand all the nuances in tactic, i will reserve my judgement for now. So far it looks good, but time will tell.

Rework world bosses

I’d say rework dragon lieutenants in a fashion similar to Teq and Wurms. Rest should stay more or less casual, in ideal like Marionette, but at least something like fire ele or golem, not completely brain dead like modnir or frozen maw. This way, i think, we will have plenty of content for every kind of player in the game.

Marionette Phase 2 is Terrible, Here's Why

in The Origins of Madness

Posted by: wasted.6817

wasted.6817

Your suggestions will effectively trivialize the whole encounter and bring everything back to zerg-it-all mentality, while right now the beauty of phase 2 is in the personal input, impact of players in the battle, it encourages skillful play, for once skill really matters, or lack of :P, and not just mindless #1 bashing in a zerg. Big no from me. Imo, this event is sort of brilliant and certainly the best casual open world event in the game, so far.

3. Precision airstrikes

4. Permabanned from the internet

5. Banishment to the moon, life support included if any of the world’s governments will donate money

6. Perma-banishment from Guild Wars 2 with all the involved party’s collective wealth transferred to the victim(s)

7. A dinner date with Scarlet

8. Trahearne

9. Agents who follow them around and bring crying babies to every theater they visit

10. An arrow in the knee

Does anyone Do Teq (or any dragons) anymore?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: wasted.6817

wasted.6817

I don’t like the scaling idea, not one bit, it’s not easy to properly implement scaling on such a huge encounter, it can easily kill all the fun in it. I think what needs to be done here is introduction of larger groups, like raid groups, with proper ui and adding the whole thing into LFG Tool so players could see raids gathering for Teq. Overflow problem can be fixing by turning current overflow system into a GW1 type of districts system, where players could choose where to go from a drop down menu.

Yea, well, they fixed the bug with 2 handed weapons, but it looks like the new “tough guy running” animation is there to stay. Fractal Story is not repeatable?

in Fractured

Posted by: wasted.6817

wasted.6817

I wonder what was the reasoning behind this decision. Yesterday’s run was kinda clunky, we were trying to figure out what to do, fighting bugs and it was very late night for me. On top of that at some point when Scarlet appeared she started to talk at the same time with some other npc, Diesa, or whoever else, i don’t even know, it was a mess. I was hoping i will be able to do story instance again and get things right this time, but i can’t, i’am kinda disappointed. There’s a possibility that you still can do it if you enter with someone who haven’t done it yet, but that’s not the way to do things, it’s a work around.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The problem is not even a fee, it’s convenience and time. You need to go somewhere to do that, and gem store item, well… if it would be some one time item which would unlock the reset option for your account or at least one of your characters then it would be ok, but instead it’s yet another consumable in your inventory and limited at that, it’s meh. Add to that major cluster kitten in gear department and whole “test/try different builds” and “play the way you want” becomes a joke. Currently GW2 is one of the most inconvenient games to play out there in terms of how easy it is to try different playstyles. For GW1 vets it’s even more noticeable, since GW1 was super flexible and convenient in that matter.
