I guess layout is an open topic, i understand why some ppl might hate it, personally i don’t mind it, i find it interesting. But artistically this map is absolutely unbelievable, there are some unreal places in there, it’s brilliant.
No, we don’t. Personally i don’t want any new playable race, it’s a waste of dev’s time and resources, there’s next to no gameplay in there, but kitten tons of initial work and even more continued work, to make armor for them etc. etc. etc. kittening nightmare and for what? So you could look at omagad feathers for a sec. and then scratch your head, so what to do now? kitten that.
I agree with OP. Wait, what?
I like the evade idea. But what i would really want is that WoR would condi clear at the start of animation instead of the end, to make it reliable.
They would be pretty broken if they wouldn’t be clunky.
Yea and what’s wrong with it? There are things that are not broken nowadays?
Talking only from PvP perspective. Am i the only one who feels that dragonhunter’ s virtues are super clunky, especially WoR? WoR clunkiness kills me faster and more often than enemies really. What would be so OP about making them instacast like normal guardian ones? And the synergy with RF is so bad now, not to mention the bug when RF doesn’t even recharge virtues, gee thanks.
It’s nowhere near how revamped Teq used to be or TT. Yea, now it’s not an afk boss, at least for now, but it’s … it have slightly more fuss about it now, like say, Claw of Jormag, but there’s nothing hardcore or even hard about it. We killed it and i hnc why we needed launch pads even, there was an airborne phase? Don’t think so. Doesn’t require knowledge, organisation, preparation, the only thing it requires is to not be asleep and preferably be present.
This annoying kitten still going on.
It’s not just tempest, it’s current meta in general. Every match you have 1-2 tempest and bunker mesmers, both counters DH in a way that they provide reflects, block, invulns etc. If that wasn’t enough, every match used to have 1-2 condi revs and those just destroy DH’s. So it’s very DH unfriendly meta atm.
Yes, still bugged for me as well. Pretty annoying.
My thoughts exactly when i saw new effects. Shocking aura also used to have distinct sound effect and not it’s not there as well (same, i think, true about magnetic one). These 2 auras are pretty important and it’s way too hard to see them now, they’re almost invisible. Not good.
So you decide you need to tone down Phase Traversal, how you go about it? You could i.e. increase energy cost by 5 pts., make 1 attack unblockable instead of 2 and make unrelenting assault last 3-4 s. instead of 5. OR. You could i.e. make range 900 instead of 1200. Both of those seem reasonable enough. But 5 second cd? Oh my god. You managed to create something genuinely fun and now you kitten on it. Devs, you aware that ports in your game fail at times, right? Right? Before the nerf, if it failed, well, you go about it again. Now? You’re done. This is a such poorly thought through decision, such poor logic, just why you do things like that, you’re game devs for heavens sake.
And Crystal Hibernation. Do you guys have experience in being present in some team fights where dh’s, eles, reapers unload their stuff? You play your own game, right? Right? You know that cc now is AoE. It’s not targeted at you, it’s just there because those classes are there. Shocking auras, aoe fear, aoe daze again and again. And how do you come up with increased cd on shield block then? Where it comes from? Your concern was rev’s sustain in 1v1’s and small skirmishes? I.e. you could perhaps lower the healing from it then? No?
I’am so sad right now. Why you do things like that, why you don’t think things through? Rev is extremely fun class, please do not kill it with utterly misplaced and poorly designed nerfs.
(edited by wasted.6817)
Yea i agree. Part of rev’s fun just died. FeelsBadMan.
PS. My same exact thoughts on thief’s abilities. Like, put cd on thief’s ports etc. it’s gonna be like, wait what?
I feel upset about phase traversal change. Even if it’s fair, the problem here for me is, it takes away a little bit of fun. This mobility in certain situations was so fun, it gave the class a certain feel. Maybe putting a cd on it isn’t the best option to shave it down, maybe increase ene cost would make more sense? It’s an ene based ability after all, it’s like put a cd on thief’s ability along with the ini requirement.
And i agree with OP on Crystal H., it’s basically a melee oh kitten ability, there’s sooo much cluster kitten in melee nowadays, cc after cc after cc, it’s crazy rly and this ability is a block anyway, not invuln and there’re tons of unblockable stuff flying around everywhere today. So i’am not sure it was necessary.
Same issue as krumhur.3207, didn’t get a staff when unlocked daredevil while in PvP lobby.

Comes as no surprise.
I agree on charr and male norn dilemma, but asura i think would look pretty cool.
I like it. OP’s examples are something like what i had in mind when i dreamed thief spec to have staff and i thought that there’s no way they’re gonna do it, that they’re gonna go with boring obvious choice of rifle, but then, they did it! Cool, right? But then i saw the animations….
Don’t think about thief as killing everyone in sight. Thats the job of bruiser based classes that are tanky and can stack to 25 might in under 20 seconds.
Your job is primarily to use your unparalleled shortbow mobility to force decaps on side nodes first, and to use SR/SA traits to rez downed allies, since stealth prevents stomps, so unless they have very heavy cleave and see it coming they won’t be able to stop you.
As for actual fighting, have your team call targets for you so you can enter a fight after getting a decap and take down a target thats low and blew all of its cooldowns, while doing the same job of +1ing a 1v1 on a side node. Don’t 1v1 yourself unless its another thief, but you should be able to take on other zerker classes depending on their build, such as zerk staff ele, power engi/war, etc. Especially don’t 1v1 builds with high sustain or tons of active defense.
^ This.
Playing Thief in conquest require you a very different mentality.
You’re here to make your team win, never forget about that. You mean getting carried by the team? Because thief with bad/average team has 0 influence on outcome of the match.
Whole decapping works only if your team can actually win/hold outnumbered fights.
Whole +1 only works if your teammates is really good at 1v1 and almost killed enemy anyway.
Want to know a scoop ?
By decapping and +1 correctly, YOU are the one carrying the team, not the other way aroundYou really think your team mate who is holding close is thinking he’s carrying you when you come get rid of that D/D ele harassing him ? Then come back mid faster than any other class and get a game changing stealth rez ? Then use your unparalleled chasing power to finish any runners to help secure your lead ?
This is what Thief excels at. You did your job as a thief, to be useful to the team in ways Thief is incontestably the best at. And maybe it’s harder in pug because you can’t help clueless teams, but we don’t balance kitten for those people.
If this isn’t the role you like in conquest mode, don’t play Thief. If you want to kill people, play signet Necro or D/D Ele.
Yea, you only think you’re carrying. Because if all those “game changing and turning” things you do achieve anything, then it simply means that your team is competent enough and they probably “carry” as much as you do. Otherwise you can break your kitten with your +1es, stealth rezzes, kills and what not and loose miserably because conquest in not the mode where one person can carry anything at all. You either get a good team and complement it in a good way thinking you’re such a carrier or you get a bad one and literally nothing you do will help. Max you can achieve is prolong your struggle.
I may be looking at the glass like it’s half full, but you’re looking at it thinking its completely empty.
I have 72% winrate in solo queue ranked PvP, I think I can feel when I help winning those games or not. If you think all the things I quickly described are not helpful to your team in ways thief is uniquely good at, then I can’t help you. You should learn Conquest more before trying to play Thief. One thing I will never disagree, playing Thief isn’t easy. But that will never mean its a bad class. And yes, the class itself has issues that need developer’s attention. But until they do something, the meta build is good enough to be a top PvP class.
To be clear my comment wasn’t about thief being weak or not, it was about the concept of carrying in conquest, in general. And i should rephrase, obviously those things will help, but how much they help totally depends on how competent your team is, which kinda undermines the whole “carry” concept. If team is bad those things won’t change the outcome, they will “help”, match will last longer, but will end with your loss and sometimes quiet annoyingly so, exactly because you tried. As for 72% win rate, that’s impressive, but the only important thing here is to figure out how much of this rate is earned by solo que and how much by que with friends. Which we can’t do, no pun intended, it’s just how it is.

I dunno, had around 7-8 loss streak yesterday. The people i played with is just… weirdest builds, getting farmed in every team fight or 2v2 even when having initial strong advantage, even playing something like d/d ele, farming creatures 24/7 on forest, leaving thief to cap/defend a point etc., it’s just mind boggling. Not a single match where i felt competent people were fighting each other, every match is basically a struggle to work around kittens, around none stop idiocy, obviously no use. Rage inducing experience at it’s best, so i don’t know what they fixed there. I have no desire to play pvp after that at all, i value my nerves and time too much. Perhaps it’s a weekend staff, all the bright ones came out to play, but still, no thank you, one of the worst ways to spend your free time.
Can’t say anything about balance, but animations on staff and dodges need A LOT of work. Clunky, not smooth, weird, out of place, unfitting, something’s off and even stupid — that’s what comes to mind when you look at them.
???
I didn’t say anything about upgrading to raids. The rest of your post is… i don’t even know what’s that about, i think you misunderstood me. Doesn’t matter anyway.
I’am not a “raid people”, i just like when things once started are properly done. I’am glad they’re making a raid etc. and i think i like their FotM re-design and i’am not asking for new dungeons or whatever, i just don’t like half kitten d jobs.
Engi? Good luck landing cc combos with that kind of ping. Bunker guardian, shout bow warrior, staff ele, perhaps condi ranger. About it i think.
I wish they would just give existing dungeons some kind of closure. Include them in FotM, or make some kind of a heroic mode in there. Right now they are just completely abandoned with many problems still remaining. What is this? Is this area of the game is completely dead, they’re not planning to going back to it, they’re going to focus on raids and FotM now? Or what? Some kind of statement would do, some kind of closure.
Lol, this gets even better. There are only 2 armor sets and 5 weapon sets. So there are 4 new same themed maps, that in terms of art created and used are probably more of a 2 maps equivalent, 3 legendaries, 1 raid, 2 (!!!!!!!!) new armor sets and 5 weapon sets. AND they charge 50 bucks for that. How was it… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZmqJUkdyRz0
4 maps and all of them are jungle, jungle, jungle. Yea, it’s hard to be hyped or stay positive about HoT.
And this means absolutely nothing, zilch, bupkis. With the expansion still in development and being beta tested, we have no idea if more maps are coming, or if the maps datamined will even be kept. Until an announcement is made we have nothing but speculation, and badly interpreted speculation at that.
This means, there’s a chance, not exactly a small one either, that 4 is gonna be it. And thus it would be wiser to prepare for that, so you won’t go gaga when it’s confirmed. All i’am saying.
Just start preparing yourselves for the worst. 4 maps data mined, this can be it. Exactly why i didn’t pre-purchase, you can’t trust nowadays AN.
Totally agreed, looks horrible, goofy. Should be either how caster’s currently hold staves or maybe some fancy kungkittenstance, partially behind or something like that.
Don’t hold your breath, AN doesn’t have good record with their “fixes”, look at multiple human animation threads, some of those issues are a year long or so, Howler animation issue etc. Unless community uproar is huge AN won’t move it’s kitten . On the topic, i dislike the “fix” as well, i liked this outfit so much that i even made a female norn ele just for this outfit, but hey, good things don’t last, do they. RIP.
Mesmers are true one shot class now, blow up things left and right. And when you get on em: invuln>another invuln>stealth>another stealth>port>another port…. jesus kittening christ. And as a topping, armies of clones running around. This kitten needs to be toned down.
To people concerned about context etc. How about this kind of context: GW1 had 3 xpacs in ~2+ years after release. For GW2 it’s gonna be 3 years in August and the main achievement we have here is all this effing drama all over the place. Nice kittening context.
Yeah, i’am gonna wait for AJ’s review as well, he usually pretty relentless about things like that.
PS. Found the video that’ve been moderated out of this thread, it’s brilliant, i’am was crying.

WoW always had long closed betas and A LOT of footage from participants, including streams and utube videos. General exploration, questing, dungeons etc. So you could get a pretty good picture about what you’re paying for. With HoT it’s all words. What challenging content? World bosses? Dungeons? Raids? How many new zones? No facts, just words and Anet have a terrible record over past 3 years with those. Probably everyone remembers “big changes coming to WvW”. If anything, the fact that they seem to be so secretive about numbers and facts probably telling us that most of our current concerns most likely, unfortunately, are true. So, no thank you to the pre-purchase, i suggest we wait and see.

For now it doesn’t look like HoT’s worth 50$. That’s why i will not be pre-ordering it while i did pre-order GW2. I will wait for the review from someone who can call things for what they actually are, i.e. Angry Joe etc., and then will decide if i want HoT or not. If it turns out to be a smallish semi-LS Season 3 expansion, and unfortunately that’s how it looks so far, then i will not be buying it.
Agreed. I don’t know what is it so hard to understand about the concept of less passive play for AN, but they seem to be fixated on all kinds of procs and thresholds. After going through preview it seems that what’s gonna matter the most is how you build your toon, not how you actually play it. Build Wars indeed.
I agree that they really need to clean up this game from aids and passives. As for power necros and rangers, i’am not sure there’s a problem there. I mean, there’s as much difference between good and bad power necro/ranger as there’s between good and bad cele ele, might be even more, plus they have counter plays, what kind of counter play does shoutbow or d/d cele ele have except overload them with cc and dps? If you complain about those specs then you surely should complain about shoutbows and d/d cele eles.
They could cut out Zhaitan fight from the story entirely. Then they could make it so that the story would only lead to that fight, but the fight itself could take place in, let’ s say, a raid? I’am guessing they’re working on raids, since there was a CDI etc. This way they would put effort into making an actual content, challenging and fun, the kind of content people will play again and again, instead of putting all the resources, time and effort into remaking some old, redundant piece. That would be neat.
I’am guessing most of the people who played long enough feel that way. Can’t be helped, game’s old, it’s been 3 years of same old, same old. Take a few months break or something. I hope AN learned their lesson this time and we won’t have to wait another 3 years for another expansion.
I find it hilarious, especially idiotic sounds your toon makes while running. “Off” option wouldn’t hurt though.
100% agreed OP. I just forget about it all the time. And every time i think, ah kitten , forgot to check it again. I wish it would just pop on screen after your death.
I’am amazed that someone can see EotM that way. It’s probably the most gorgeous place in GW2, partly why it’s so sad that it being wasted on such a boring activity, i wish they would remake EotM in some way and incorporate it into WvW (i.e. maybe replace EB etc.). Speaking of Dry Top, the art direction in general is a matter of taste no doubt, but the QUALITY if said art, of work being done in Dry Top is top notch, and while i personally never was a fan of all kinds of deserty-cannoynish landscapes, and maguuma was one of my least favorite areas in original GW, just how beautifully art team executed DP and SW left me completely satisfied aesthetically with them and with the fact that game moves into maguuma.
Except sand storm in DP. It is indeed ugly when you look at it from outside. That being said, i saw similar sand storm in new WvW map yesterday in Ready-UP, and it looked very good, i wish they would update it in DP as well.
Doesn’t sound fun so far. Collecting all kinds of crap. Is getting lumi armor fun? Not really, takes time though. I guess same is gonna be with precursors. Sure, it’s better than what is currently in place. But it have little to do with “epic journey” concept.
They need to widen his AoE’s, perhaps during both ground and air phases. Plus i saw there’s a mastery, i think Exalted one, which in future when maxed out will grant immunity to wyvern’s blow out attack. Why? Sooner or later everyone will max out masteries and giving players straight up immunity to this single coolest attack will just trivialize this fight, AN don’t do it. Wyvern should stay a threat, no matter how far you progressed on your account.
1. FPS was a major issue.
2. Nice new skins.
3. Obv. too early to judge, but Rev. traits seemed underwhelming.
4. Rev. seemed to be a bit slow and a bit clunky.
5. I liked skills on both available weapon sets, no filler skills.
Spec: Monk.
Weapon: Staff.
Time to learn some kungkitten
