Kicked from Fractals for playing what I enjoy

People continually make these asinine posts about how they deserve to play whatever they want and have 4 other people do the work for them. Do what you want but at least tell other people you have no desire to complete content.

Pfft. What’s gonna happen? You’ll wipe and the dungeon will boot your party out? Nope, you get infinite lives, and mobs don’t respawn.

What happens is, 4 other ppl’s time and nerves will be wasted in a most stupid and unnecessary way because someone couldn’t be kitten d to contribute. This is, foremost, complete lack of respect for other ppl, for their time and effort they put in. When ppl join a team with an “i play what i enjoy” attitude, i consider it to be the utter rudeness and arrogance. There are 4 other ppl with you, you should mind their time and they also, big surprise there, want to have fun.

Just a side note. Legendary greatswords usually look best on guardians. Because of their skill animations, leap and then whirling, looks almost calligraphic, quiet beautiful. I’am not a big fan of their general design, but how it looks on guardians when performing skills makes me wanna have one (gsw).

These 2 are probably the best sword skins i’ve ever seen in MMOs. And the Long Sword design was used for Kymswarden, no wonder it’s one of the very few decent greatswords in GW2.

The only daggers I can ever use in this game are Komalie’s Sacrificial Blade… Why? Because they actually look like daggers, not 1-handed swords being held upside-down.

Mistforged/lovestruck daggers looked very good, the only problem is of course whoever is doing the scaling on the dev side for some reason has a thing for obnoxiously oversizing them. I might as well use a frying pan instead of a dagger.

Haha, exactly same story and thoughts.

100% with OP, on this one. At this point me and my friend even have sort of inside joke about it, like: ok, everything seems to be normal, greatsword and sword are fugly, as usual, those huge, oversized korean e-pen extenders, nothing to see here, move along.

PS. Then, the lovestruck ones were actually decent skins, but yeah, the heart, it had to be there… Right.

@Vayne.8563

Well, there’s no relatively balanced PvP in this game, so no worries there, GW2 in terms of PvP nowhere near where GW1, even after interfering expansions, was. So in this case, expansion could do some good for GW2, but of course, PvP could be redeemed without expansion as well.

Some people complained, some didn’t stick (who probably wouldn’t stick anyway, like your son), but at the same time new communities were formed (Deep/Urgoz, DoA) some old players came back, and for those who never left, there were lots of new impressions.

Community will always be divided in some way and part, if you’re so concerned about it, why making PvE, PvP, WvW and not only that, but make them so separated as they’re in Gw2? There’s no logic in that.

It’s not a sandbox game, the only way to go is to form strong playerbase in PvE/PvP/WvW. That’s how i see it. And expansion can help here. Obviously, only a good one xP, no need to continue bombarding me with “bad examples”.

People also chew through traditional expansions and then never return until a new one comes out.

This is just the way it is.

That’s not true. Expansion is not just a handful of new maps to explore and then move on. New PvP modes, farmable dungeons, areas, skins etc., many people will stay in those activities for various reasons, that’s how it was in GW1, that’s how it is in WoW, some will chew through and go, some will stay. And what kind of argument is that anyway. So let’s all stay in LA, play TP, play same old 2 WvW maps, play same old, the only one, half- kitten d PvP mode and farm Tequatl to death, and continue running CoF p1, again and again, because you know, no point in making expansion, ppl will just chew through it.

No one saw it coming is my point.

It had to go live for that to develop. That’s a whole lot of wasted development time.

I understand. But my point is that they had it coming, as soon as they made a map which was out of the usual WvW score system, the issue became glaring. Same would happen to any of the existing WvW maps, put EB in place of EotM, everyone will start running in circles (they often do it even as it is), with stronger side making raids on SM to farm some loot bags etc. And PTS didn’t help with that, but it helped with other things. Was it a wasted dev. time? That’s probably for them to answer.

@ Marcelinho.3190

You’re not helping. Some, if not most, of the OP’s points are quiet valid issues/concerns, it would be wise to devs to pay attention, nothing wrong with that. Your input, however, is equals to zero, and, actually, can only hurt, if anything.

Living Story Won't bring people back.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: wasted.6817

wasted.6817

No one suggested this was going to happen. That’s why I think PTS’s aren’t going to change much.

Karma trains existed long before EotM, but in EotM it became the alpha and omega because EotM is out of the WvW loop, no one cares about score in EotM. That’s why no one suggested it could happen. EotM just outlined the major flaw in general WvW rewards concept. That’s why PTS and EotM karma trains are 2 different issues. PTS did help, i’am sure it made EotM a better map and helped devs with design/fixing bugs etc. The karma/champ trains issue is a deeper core WvW problem, rather than a simple issue of some specific map’s design.

@Belenwyn.8674 For some people it’s not only about farming events, it’s also about sense of wander and exploring, thus size matters.

Also, it’s not ANet’s fault that the players turned EotM into a karma train.

In a way, it is. There is a window for exploitation/certain playstyle, made by AN, since it’s AN who designed the EotM and WvW. It’s possible that the problem lies not in the specific map design, but in the reward distribution. The problem is where AN put the rewards at. Currently it’s in “running in circles like a rat collecting champ bags”. This can be changed, but this will require AN to re-think their concept of rewards in WvW, what ppl are getting rewarded for, whole system should be somehow changed/tweaked, one way or another. It might be not easy, but, imo, it should be interesting task.

GW2: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I’d say that combat seriously hindered by the horrible particle system, when you can’t make out what’s going on on the screen for the life of yours and thus you’re not reacting or anticipating, you act in a semi random way, just guessing what can be happening there right now, judging from your past experience. Plus the fact that too many classes use passive mechanics, such as mesmer clones, necro minions, engi turrets makes thing even worse.

And i don’t think optimisation can be called good. Audio engine is still quiet glitchy, long loading times plus things tend to appear (or not) right in front of you for quiet some time after map loaded, including the UI elements, some areas where you have unreasonable FPS drops (look Southsun Cove) and the main thing, this engine clearly wasn’t designed to handle massive number of players on the screen, the vision AN had for this game and the tech they used for it, they just don’t match. Imo it’s a long way to go before optimisation can be called “good”.

Engi is probably still the most underplayed class. PvE wise most popular classes for group play are guardians, mesmers, warriors, eles.

Unfortunately, no, they’re not. I’ve noticed this time ago. All of the new hairstyles are not animated. Why no GvG ANet?

wasted.6817

You can call it whatever you like, but that’s how it was called in original game and that’s what it was there. You’re playing Guild Wars 2, it’s a sequel to Guild Wars 1, i believe most of the ppl who bring up the GvG topic here mean GvG as in GW1’s GvG and not in LA2 clan wars. And giving the fact that you obviously disliked the clan wars in LA2 or whatever it was in “other MMOs”, i don’t really understand the point of yours, or more like, do you have one at all.

wasted.6817

And if it’s the game mode that bothers you, then answer this: What game mode would you think is appropriate for GvG? How would you implement said game mode in sPvP in a way that it might be taken seriously as an eSport?

Tbh i think the e-sport train is long gone, so i don’t really care about the e-sport perspective, i was talking mainly from the point of having more fun game modes which would include a tighter team work in it, require more synergy. I’am not convinced it’s at all possible however, due to the nature of GW2’s “one man army”/“jack of all trades” class mechanic.

GvG was a game mode. My comment was about your remark that 15v15 can’t be e-sport, where, i thought, willingly or not, you implied that GvG can’t have smaller numbers of players participating. It can and number of players in teams is a discussable thing, it doesn’t have to be 20, or 15, or 8, or 5. 8v8 doesn’t make it GvG if it’s still the same conquest kitten.

Why no GvG ANet?

in PvP

Posted by: wasted.6817

wasted.6817

Even a fairly conservative amount of 15v15 would be completely and utterly unfeasible for an eSport. It’s too many people, spectating would be a confusing mess..

It’s conservative only for GW2, due to where this GvG iteration originated from — WvW. In GW1 it was 8v8. It could be 5v5, or same old 8v8, for GW2’s real GvG.

And yeah maybe adding some dungeons that could be completed with 8-12 players (Gw1 like) it could add a breath of fresh air.

It won’t be a breath of fresh air. Because of the GW2’s core class mechanics, when everyone is “one man army”. It will be just a little more messy and zergy than your usual 5m dungeon. In GW1 in such groups there was a structure and there were roles for classes to play. There’s no such thing in GW2. You might be in a wrong game for that. Just as an example: FF14 — it have 8m challenging and rewarding end game dungeons. However, it’s a gear treadmill game.

The 5 best and worst things about GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: wasted.6817

wasted.6817

Worst.
1. WvW being a complete zerg/stack fest with next to no strategy and progress in there.
2. Conquest being the only available PvP mode.
3. Lack of substantial new content (stand alone add on) for over a year.
4. Lack of sensible team-play in every area of the game, classes, in most cases, are too independent, lack of active meaningful roles for classes in group play.
5. Lack of tools for community to organise. (alliances, guild instances, guild halls, ability to choose districts etc.)
5.1 Complete stagnation in dungeons aspect of the game. xP

Best.
1. Sub free.
2. Entertaining for new players.
3. Quality of some of the art work.
4. Music.
5. Whatever.

Yea. After over a year of talks about mythical “big things they’re working on in background” (don’t tell me it was wardrobe and megaserver) it’s safe to say the game is in stagnation. And that was the main concern back then, when they’ve announced the “no expansion plans” and focus on LS. Even scavenger hunt is nowhere on the horizon and it’s been a year. Priorities, priorities — they’ve been kittened up since day one. But, HEY! We have now a portfolio of festivals, like upcoming dragon bash! Isn’t it YAY?! Ppl can’t wait, right? Right?!

I used to be an advocate for no holy trinity formula of GW2, but it’s not working, at least not in AN’s interpretation, or you can put it another way, that it’s actually working, just without classic roles and dps is, in the end, the most important factor, after general skill. If they want a variety they will have to introduce healer and tank roles, which they will not, for various reasons. Game will be 2 y.o. soon.
