the SoS community as a whole cared little about what happened in WvW except for the big guilds that defended in WvW. SoS WvW started falling apart after 2 guilds left because they couldn’t handle JQ which was weeks ago. This destroyed the morale of the rest of the SoS community. Our militia was nonexistent since they all hopped on JQ.

There was only one solution to this; Consolidate WvW guilds onto another server that shows promising tier 1 attributes. Sea of Sorrows is just a name. The WvW guilds in that server are what gave the carebears the world buffs and now they won’t get them anymore once they sink to tier 5.

Transfering to another server was the best thing to do instead of sitting on SoS and looking at JQ full capping because of numbers.

Clearly the solution to this is to go to another server hoping to full cap because of numbers…?

Never mind the rating system designed to let your server fall to where it can compete if you lose some strength! Keep jumping servers, get angry at coverage, jump more servers, repeat. It’s a self-perpetuating problem. You guys have a good time hitting the transfer button and staring at the ppt board like it means something, we’ll be playing WvW down here in the minor leagues that are clearly not worth the time of superior hopping guilds.

They’ll likely be facing a depleted SoS rather than BG, though. How the tiers shape out after that will depend on how the current SoS is. T2 could look like KN/SoS/FA for awhile while SoS loses some rating, and then possibly KN/FA/TC if SoS continues to fall.

I like Kaineng, you guys are classy and cohesive. But Kaineng is also the definition of a bandwagon – it’s not derogatory even though many people spin it that way. WM moved, NEO declared their project, and then many, many guilds moved over time seeing the opportunity. That is basically a bandwagon. Once again, it’s not derogatory! All the servers in the top 5 have been “bandwagon” destinations at one point or another, Kaineng is just the purest example of one because they came all the way from the bottom and probably picked up the most momentum along the way.

I don’t get why everyone needs to play follow the leader to the next hot server. Why not stop creating 1 or 2 stacked servers and instead balance out the top six servers and actually have fun? If, big if, SoS does go the way of the ET, HoD, SBI, etc we have an opportunity to flesh out TC and FA. It seems some people just like to log-in to win, but if we got 6 servers rotating that could be a lot more fun than becoming the next stacked server for a two months and then imploding.

Striving to reach JQ’s coverage will not be successful for this game with its current population. If anything, JQ should be de-stacking a bit as well to promote the game’s ecosystem.

You must understand, only tier 1 is fun. Every other tier is not worth playing in. We must get this server to tier 1! And the next! And then some more.

Always interesting to see the countless numbers of “hardcore” guilds that have hopped around going “we want to look for the best fights in T1”, and then complain about coverage issues when hopping guilds caused those issues in the first place. Oh, and casually destroy a bunch of lower tier matchups on their way up. Transfer, get to the top, unbalance matchups, complain about unbalanced matchup at the top, repeat.

It really does if you think about it, Glicko system with 3 servers per tier in a league of 24 servers with a 24/7 game is inherently flawed.

Human nature makes people to want to win, but in real life and most games, to have good competition to eventually win you just need the pre-requisite of drive, motivation, effort mixed in with some skill or talent. In this game to be competitive to win you need to stack your time zones.

I mean TC and beyond, it’s not ever going to be realistic any of the servers below have any chance whatsoever of ever moving up without transfers. That’s a flawed system.

That’s because you assume the point of the system is to get to the top of the bracket. There is a group of players who believe this and server-hop like bunnies, and there are people who realize the bracket system is to ensure fair matchups, and just play the game. One of those groups are having fun, the other is QQing on forums.

I don’t hold it against you quite frankly, I play on JQ and I think we over-recruited to beat SoS, you’ve done the same to beat us, but that doesn’t mean you didn’t over-recruit.

I really don’t blame the players at all, it’s the system that is flawed.

Nothing in “the system” forces players to jump from server to server because theirs isn’t winning anymore, though.

You are from SoR, you know best how the “top 6” servers stack up against each other. They don’t, at all. There’s no systemic way to compensate for guild-hopping, and no reason for intervention in the top tiers because any problems there are one hundred percent due to the action of players.

Tier 8, on the other hand, is a legitimate concern. But that’s not what this topic is about.

I’m a little sad at how outnumbered we (TC) are at the late night hours. Had a lot of fun a few months back with BG before they moved up tier and before we caught up. Now it feels like we can’t put up the kind of fight we use to be proud of. Maybe i’m just not seeing how things are during the day.

Having a gaping coverage hole is nothing to be ashamed of. It just means we can’t compete on the scoreboard, but it doesn’t mean we can’t compete on the field when we have people. Personally, not having to worry about placement is kind of liberating

I thought Thai,Urge and ND were strong Blackgate oceanics guild? So I’m quite confused to see people saying regarding Blackgate oceanic coverage gap.

I think they are more of SEA timing guilds? I always thought oceanic was interchangeable with SEA (probably since TC is lacking the whole lot) but a couple weeks with Kain and BG makes the distinction really clear. Oceanic prime time kicks in a few hours earlier and Kain dominates this period. T2 tends to make coverage gaps really obvious, even for strong servers like BG and KN who have been exposing each other’s weaknesses for awhile now.

Theres no benefit to winning or crushing an opponent in points in WvWvW. As stated in a thread in the last match up, servers push for Tier 1 so hard, put so much emphasis on it, thinking its the Holy Grail. Go read some SoR comments in the Tier 1 thread now. I cant say im surprised to see them say they hate it. I could care less about the score and care more about being camped to the point I cant leave the spawn with 10 people only to see 50-60 Yaks starving for a kill. Keep the points, get me some good fights. Less emphasis or care on points, more on good fights. Most of the people benefitting from WvW buffs dont do any WvW, so other then chest thumping to someone you outnumber, its really a wash.

Enough with the night capping worry posts. Let them do it. Say CD comes back and wins, if you know it was mostly from night capping, who cares? IF YB wins from having superior numbers, who cares? Fight to fight, for no other reason.

From the way Anet set up the tiers, it would appear that Tier 1 is the ultimate goal to “win” WvW. But it really isn’t. The tiers are merely a matchmaking system to try and achieve quality WvW for all servers.

Honestly, if all those bunny hopping “elite guilds” actually understood this we’ll already have fun tiers and a fun WvW by now.

As for nightcap whiners, TC has been “nightcapped” by every server forever and battered every single night by true 24/7 servers since moving up to T2 2 months back, but I think we’ve kept our threads fairly clean and our spirits fairly high. Fight hard when you are on, and if that isn’t enough then it just means the other server has more numbers at the right timings and are rightly getting more points because that’s how the system works. I dunno about the other guys, but the YB I remember playing 2 months ago came out every day and fought their darndest even though they were the underdogs and clearly outnumbered in T3. There’s a lot of respect around TC for that spirit – please keep it until our servers can meet again some day!

AoE splashes through gates (same way you can hit people on the other side of gates with a catapult), and the pull was probably from a mesmer wall which doesn’t need sight of you.

I think dropping incendiary rounds on FA & TC running around in bay last night for about an hour had to be one of the funniest things I’ve done in a while. Every now and then a group or of BG would go over to the shore and troll the vast, angry hordes on the plateau into coming down for easy bags and the next thing they know ‘oh god, oh god I’m on fire, it burns!’ and running around screaming.

Fire makes everything good.

The only reason you see the score on FA so low a lot of the time is because Terrible Coast never attacks anyone else other than FA. So BG being the opportunists they are take full advantage of this and attack us as well.

I am not complaining however, I love it, keep it coming guys, the more zergs come at us the more loot bags. O soooo many loot bags tonight and spent more than half the night on Yak escorting. Only time I died was against a few awesome TC thieves whilst guiding the yak and at SMC with the entire ICOA and TC server coming down on us at the same time and still held it for 2 wipes of BG and 1 wipe of TC.

I think most of us on TC are amazed as well – BG put out some unbelievable oceanic/SEA numbers when it was BG/SoR/TC. At the start of the week I kind of imagined BG and FA’s oceanics waging battle while TC hides in a corner and tries to hold on to stuff during oceanic hours, but what do you know FA goes ahead and beats everyone up. Great showing from FA.

It’s really too bad that this will definitely be our last week in the same tier for possibly quite some time. After the previous 3 weeks of SoR/SBI/TC I think many of us will be happy playing this matchup for the next few months or so >_>

Actually it means a lot in terms of 24/7 “competition”. I am on SOR and saw first hand what the matches were like in the lower tiers as some matches for weeks on end became one sided facerolls due to lack of coverage/numbers. The latter becomes very boring for either side…

Those matches were not a function of them being in a “lower tier”. They were a result of people who move to winning servers within tiers and upset the balance that was originally there. For many weeks the bottom 3 tiers were incredibly balanced while the top few tiers were not.

When the brackets are allowed to work properly without transfers the only meaning to a higher “tier” will be greater overall participation and coverage. “24/7 competition” means nothing to any individual player unless you play 24/7.

That’s the same problem we had on our BL last night. But no one will obviously believe that we could field no more than 60 compared to two opponents who could field entire teams. But whatevs, we’ll deal with it.

Oh and you know…they wouldn’t try and take each other’s stuff, just our last towers. It was pretty cool.

Hi all,

Queues are per map, per team – so there is a queue for TC players on the Eternal Battlegrounds and a different queue for TC players on each Borderlands, and a different queue for each of the other teams on each of the maps.

During the time it takes for players to change maps it is possible for there to be a queue even if there are less players in a map than the maximum capacity because the players taking up those empty slots are still “in flight” between maps. It’s also possible for a slot to take a while to fill if e.g. people see the queue pop, wait until the progress bar for the automatic transfer is almost empty, and then choose to renter the queue. At that point the system will move on and look for other players to fill that slot but all of that takes a bit of time. We’ve watched the queue numbers a lot and generally it’s only a few slots that are in this reserved state at any time.

Just to be sure I ran a quick database query for the last few days and all the queue numbers look quite reasonable.

So I don’t know where in the map those players are when you’re looking for them, but they’re definitely in there somewhere!

I bet the JP’s are full because there is no siege allowed in there anymore. Please remove the JP’s from WvW.

One of my fondest memories of WvW was when we were still in T3 and dominating, we wiped FA off their borderlands completely (I think it was during the whole Dolyak parade business) and camped at their north supply camp exit (north camp was the last point we capped). Then, without anybody really coordinating anything or saying what we should or shouldn’t do, a couple people started building a bunch of flame rams at the camp while others started to costume brawl. We then had a dance off for awhile before leaving the area to let FA take it back.

That really summed up the whole spirit of TC for me, at least back then.

That being said, I don’t think there’s anything inherently wrong with spawn camping. The more pressure you put at the enemy spawn the less room they have to go out and take your stuff, so it is the logical thing to do if you have a bunch of people in an already conquered map and you want the maximum points possible. There’s multiple exists anyway. Well, that’s that. Back to arguing or whatever!

I think when Indo said that about us being in T3 or below he was simply stating that TC as it is might not be able to compete with all the stacked super servers above and those coming up. Agree or disagree, I don’t think he was bad mouthing TC at all.

Nobody is faulting (or should be) for wanting to play together, but IF you are going to do that then you should have a realistic view of how it’s going to pan out and not act all disappointed when you can’t have fun because of the numbers you bring to the fight. Mass transfer to a server all you want, just don’t act surprised when you have… mass numbers lol.

From what I can see from the scores we’re doing fine. It’s what the pie should look like with one stronger server and one dead server. As with basically every week in T2, it’s a great match as long as we ignore the ppt/score.

I don’t know about us being ahead if we had a third server though, I couldn’t get into any map for a few hours after reset and we were still behind. For at least the few hours after reset, numbers were not the reason why SoR dominated.

I am surprised by the zerg/aoe sizes from Kaineng WM. I have seen plenty of zergs but they have some disciplined zergs that seem built to drop massive amounts of aoe. I imagine it is not much fun to run in them but they sure are effective.

They are indeed very disciplined. Though I have noticed their main strength is abusing the culling system in place. I don’t know if that is indicative if what T1/2 servers are all about, but it’s kinda lame and makes me lose some respect for them. I mean, it works, clearly, but still, meh.

It is, sadly, the most effective way to play. You could just be running from place to place in tier 2 and suddenly people start appearing on top of you >_>

Don’t look now but Maguuma is very close to jumping tier 3 altogether. According to the score update site, projected ratings are as follows:
Stormbluff Isle – Tier 2, slot 3 – 1838.9 (3 hours ago)
Maguuma – Tier 3, slot 1 – 1834.6 (36 minutes ago)
You want a beatdown on Maguuma next round, go out there and capture everything possible to make up those four points. We will be sure to lose those fairweather transfers if we manage to accomplish that.

Many of us in TC might be quite excited to see that happen, it’s very difficult to face a superpowered server when the third server is almost empty. The entry of another strong server into T2 will make the matchup extremely interesting.
