I feel bad for the original residents of Kaineng =/
I’m more afraid of Jean-Claude van Kitten, myself.
You have to be nice to join TC. :P
TC makes people nice when they come in. Srs.
I transferred off of JQ to SoR months ago because steam rolling everyone as the #1 server (at the time) got boring. Much like I would get bored quickly if the status quo in this tier stays the same.
No shame in going from the number one server to a T6 server imo.
Honestly, up until this week we have been the underdog server for a long time. Once we get to T1, we will be the underdog server there as well.
Of course there is no shame, I think it’s an amazing thing if you guys just picked a T6 server with a cool name to move to. Feels alot better than making some massive alliance into a tier 8 server to roll your way up cough
Sorry for derailing, my question has been answered.
It is not about SOR. (run that again in your head one more time).
Its about the game as enjoyment, Wvw as it is played and three server communities that make up a Tier and in this case Tier 2. What you argue is good for SOR is not good for the tier…… for the rest of us in this thread. There is no solid argument any of you have made to convince me of that. Now it may be that the Tier’s health, problems and fun quotient is not really your problem or concern.
At least be honest about it.
Like I said, when this shakes out, TC most likely won’t be in T2 anymore anyways to worry about this. I suspect you will be back in T3 due specifically to 2 other servers on the way up.
I suspect karma will catch up with SOR and you are actually better off hiding in T2. TC got here and made it here without a mass wagon train. I doubt we are going anywhere….. and whenever we end up we will be giving all we have and never opting to avoid a fight because it might be difficult somewhere else.
there is a word for that……just saying.
Your post is nonsense.
SoR got to T2 and was on the receiving end of two servers with vastly superior coverage for months, and never gave up. We also made it here with out the ‘mass wagon’ train and in fact actually lost people over that time frame.
So yeah you are right, Karma will catch up with SoR. It already has. We finally got the coverage we were lacking.
I have a question that is easily going to be construed as offensive or something by some sensitive people so let me EMPHASIZE that I am purely asking because I honestly don’t know and have always been curious:
Was SoR a transfer destination at some point? I remember SoR was a T5 or T6 server for a few weeks following release (I distinctly remember an SoR/NSP/Yaks match that was ridiculously close right up to the finish), and then suddenly you guys shot up. I do know CDS was ex-SBI and TW were from JQ, but was there ever some sort of organized move to SoR? What about the other major WvW guilds?
Honestly interested in some of the history here.
Honestly, TC is a good fit for anybody, unless you are specifically looking for a tier-1 level 24/7 WvW focused HARDCORE server, which we aren’t. The PvE is obviously huge and of great quality due to the size of the server population and the demographics (remarkably mature and good-natured in general, something that always stood out to me coming from many previous games and MMOs). WvW here is competitive, although tier 2 will be an uphill battle for the coming weeks.
I could go on forever but I think the general vibe and reputation of the server as well as its popularity speaks for itself. We’ve always been a hard server to get in though, but as I understand many of the bigger guilds on both WvW and RP sides have been trying to organize blackout events to get some of the interested guilds through this week. Maybe someone more directly involved in that can provide more information there.
In any case I’m sure everybody on TC will be thrilled to have you guys on board. The community here is something else.
It’s not always about us.
SoR wants time to prepare their server cohesion before going to T1. That’s the starting point, not “let’s stay in T2 to roll people forever”. It sucks for the rest of us, but as everyone knows if BG came down it’ll probably suck just as hard. So there’s really no point griefing over how SoR are taking this week’s matchup because ultimately it doesn’t affect anything other than their own server.
Time in this thread should be spent on productive things, like Dolyak parades. And eye candy score updates.
Everyone is mad.
I don’t have to tell you things are bad. Everybody knows things are bad. It’s a depression. Everybody’s out of work or scared of losing their job. The dollar buys a nickel’s worth, banks are going bust, shopkeepers keep a gun under the counter. Punks are running wild in the street and there’s nobody anywhere who seems to know what to do, and there’s no end to it. We know the air is unfit to breathe and our food is unfit to eat, and we sit watching our TV’s while some local newscaster tells us that today we had fifteen homicides and sixty-three violent crimes, as if that’s the way it’s supposed to be. We know things are bad – worse than bad. They’re crazy. It’s like everything everywhere is going crazy, so we don’t go out anymore. We sit in the house, and slowly the world we are living in is getting smaller, and all we say is, ‘Please, at least leave us alone in our living rooms. Let me have my toaster and my TV and my steel-belted radials and I won’t say anything. Just leave us alone.’ Well, I’m not gonna leave you alone. I want you to get mad! I don’t want you to protest. I don’t want you to riot – I don’t want you to write to your congressman because I wouldn’t know what to tell you to write. I don’t know what to do about the depression and the inflation and the Russians and the crime in the street. All I know is that first you’ve got to get mad. You’ve got to say, ’I’m a HUMAN BEING, God kitten it! My life has VALUE!’ So I want you to get up now. I want all of you to get up out of your chairs. I want you to get up right now and go to the window. Open it, and stick your head out, and yell, ’I’M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I’M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!’ I want you to get up right now, sit up, go to your windows, open them and stick your head out and yell – ’I’m as mad as hell and I’m not going to take this anymore!’ Things have got to change. But first, you’ve gotta get mad!… You’ve got to say, ’I’m as mad as hell, and I’m not going to take this anymore!’ Then we’ll figure out what to do about the depression and the inflation and the oil crisis. But first get up out of your chairs, open the window, stick your head out, and yell, and say it: “I’M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I’M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!”
This should be copy-pasted in response to every kitten who goes “u mad”
Good stuff.
I’m from SoS and decided to log into SBI on my frnds char… loving watching 5 people go from fort to fort with 1 golem from SoR capping all of EB so cute, Tier 2
.
We have a blackout atm and SBI is depleted =( Sorry we aren’t part of huge servers with 24/7 coverage, I guess? What is the point of your post?
I’ll agree that SoR are being very gracious winners, though. Maybe because most of them aren’t even playing, but compared to the other tiers with lopsided matchups this thread is doing great.
If there’s just one or two icons it’s easy to coordinate with them (and often very helpful for them) and avoid where your own zerg is going, especially during prolonged sieges where the bulk of your forces might need to be at the siege site and you or your small group are free to roam.
If every single map is swarming with icons and every remote objective is being hit by zergs simultaneously then I have nothing to say, your server must be in the wrong tier xD I play in tier 2 and have never had trouble finding a quiet(er) map for small group action before. You should probably consider a lower tier server then. I think tiers 6-8 are all having a blast with balanced matchups atm.
You can always choose to ignore the main group. Not ignore completely, of course, but engage in your own havoc tactics that still help your server’s cause but put you away from the big groups. So for example for that massive SM fight, what you could be doing as an attacking server would be to make sure the server holding SM doesn’t get to keep their camps and/or doesn’t get any Dolyaks into SM. You could be ambushing reinforcements that respawned and are walking back to SM to fight. You could even be trying to ninja-cap a tower while all the servers have their attention on SM.
If you just want to avoid running WITH a zerg, it’s still possible to do so on a “higher-tier” server, even as high as tier 2. TC for example has a low oceanic presence, and as an oceanic player on TC it’s very easy to hop onto a nearly empty map painted enemy colors and start flipping objectives or generally running around with other like-minded people. I’ve ninja-captured a keep with 4 people before, that was something. And that started with me just hopping onto an empty BL to do dailies! Moments like those make me treasure WvW, but I digress.
If you want to avoid running INTO zergs altogether there’s not much choice I think but to move to a very lowly populated server. Even then I’m sure you’ll still run into big groups when you play on the other servers’ peak periods. It’s not as if low tier servers only have like 10 people playing WvW at any one time – from screenshots I’ve seen they’re still capable of fielding big zergs, just not on the same terms of coverage as the higher ranked server.
Kaineng and Maguuma for NA ladder.
Probably Ruins of Surmia for EU. At least for this week, these servers seem to have complete control of their tiers.
So necro only zerg it is, time/date/BL?
Let’s do tomorrow 8pm pacific and TC BL since they had the great idea about necro clones.
Did I just doom my server to being overrun by an undead horde?
;_;
To all those that are in such a hurry to get SoR out of T2. You do realize that just means you get to deal with BG instead right? It won’t be any better.
You realize that you’re larger than BG is now, right? I’m going to keep posting this whenever you guys bring up the BG thing because it’s the truth.
We want BG because BG is more comparable to our size. This makes for a more competitive and interesting match-up.
Wake up.
I don’t think TC realizes that BG picked up 3+ guilds from SBI and that or more from IOJ. they have also been learning some nasty tricks from SOS/JQ in T-1. While some TC players are crying to get SOR out, I sincerely don’t think they want the new and improved BG back. On the flip I kind of want them to get their wish so I can see the new excuses and angry rants from them about how they need SOR back.
We’re screwed either way, both SoR and BG are bigger than us and one of them will always be in T2. I have seen no “crying, excuses and angry rants” from TC. We also haven’t left to join the winning server. I think that across the tiers, TC has been one of the most level-headed in terms of being the losing server in lopsided tiers. Our previous opponents BG and current opponent SoR (back when it was just SoR) can attest to that.
So please don’t make posts like this. It’s nice that you are informing us of BG’s strength and guild movements that we might not know about, but is there a real need for your last sentence?
it was a fun day today! everyone was running their level 1 alts and just doing skirmishes in borderlands. No one is allowed to take any towers haha!
May I propose that we pick a night very soon to make a zerg consisting only of one class such as engineers?
Do all Minion Necromancers! It’ll look like your zerg has 300 people in it, take a screenshot of that and suddenly every server is scared kittenless of SoR
OP was a month ago – CD was (and always has been, I think) an oceanic/SEA heavy server. I don’t think CD lost anyone other than KH yet, so the oceanic numbers are definitely there. Maybe in PvE for the week, but there.
Lol I do NOT mean this as a taunt or anything like that …. But wouldn’t it be terrible if SoR wagers on the rating game, only to have another server come in (from several possibilities currently working their way up) and take their spot in tier 1?
The more likely scenario is, we don’t make it into T1, but TC gets kicked down to T3 and FA and Maguuma moves into T2.
Or we move into T1 and Blackgate takes T2 with FA and Maguuma.
Neither alternative has TC in the picture tbh.
It’s actually in your best interest also for things to play out as they are so you also gain rating and move to #2 T2 and get close to #1 T2.
But yes, it would be amusing for both our servers.
But that’s the thing. There’s a small group of players on TC that would hate to see us drop a tier, but the bulk of us are happy just putting out the best fight we can every week, regardless of which tier we are in.
I would suspect there are certain expectations with all of your transfers to hit tier 1. And if those expectations aren’t met, you’ll have attrition.
Conversely TC will likely always stay with the same population because of other mitigating factors.
It’s your call really, but there is something to be said for momentum.
According to your own players, you guys have so much internal strife and conflict about remaining competitive. You’ve had 1 guild just up and leave with countless other original TC players. You have half your player base wanting an organized alliance, the other half wanting to keep TC true to its colors. Your biggest WvW guilds which are carrying your server are getting so much heat they are even thinking of transferring to other servers.
You seem to have a lot of opinions about the state of SoR and the mindset of its players peppered through all your posts in this thread. You should really worry about your own house before you try and help others.
Thank you for your kind consideration and sincere intentions in helping us though. It’s good to know there are opponents that are truly selfless and kind, really looking out for our community.
I really, really don’t think anything of this sort is happening to TC. Morale is high with some welcome new faces and any differences the community might have had seems to be settled.
I wouldn’t be so sure about TC wanting to keep SBI in tier 2, to be honest. A populated third server will make the tier much less lopsided and more competitive, which is probably exactly what TC wants. We’ll still lose in all likelihood, but it won’t be as bad as when SoR can sponge points off a depleted server unopposed.
SoR on the other hand will very much NOT want any third server into tier 2, because they will almost certainly tank in ratings if that happens especially after this week.
It’s possible but not probable. Maguuma is still 31 rating behind SBI and only 24 ahead of FA. And with SoR tanking and giving more points back to SBI and TC, it’ll probably stay that way give or take a few points.
Agreed, fairly unlikely that the tier will change at this point. SoR either needs to come out in force (to secure T1) or exclusively focus SBI and hope TC does the same (to get Maguuma into T2). Since SoR has stated their intention to take time before moving on and TC isn’t going to stop attacking SoR (:D), the tier will most likely remain the same next week but with TC as blue.
Well…the messages about ratings and the possibility of being trapped in the tier have already been posted and don’t bear repeating, so…
w00t for having more than 100ppt at this time slot! For the coast!
I believe we do have several black-out timings scheduled to facilitate a few guilds coming in as well as any other interested individuals. They don’t always work, but quite a few successes have been reported so I can only advise you to keep trying.
The timings are in the first post here:
http://tcgw2.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=323
Why do we have 5 keeps at this timing.
Normally we have like 1 and all the walls are down or something.
As a member of FA I’m a little disappointed in our server right now. Reducing our opponents to 0 ppt because of some forum posts are the exact same bully tactics used by TC that earned them so much of our scorn.
In our defense, it was in response to a merciless killing of a peaceful Dolyak and her merry escorts. Please don’t hate us =(
Hey guys I’ll make this quick.
And yes, I have no shame. So I’m hearing words that TC and IOJ guilds (sorry yaks nothing about you and Maguuma is crammed with players already you can’t even get on a map) are leaving their servers and moving into other ones.
Now I’m nearly certain that this is true.
Nothing of this sort is happening to TC.
Wow. Just WoW. Arenanet, do a better job balancing next time. This is completely stupid. Logged in just to see WvW, 6:25 AM EST. Maguuma controlled, every single point there is to control, on all border lands. Everything. When I logged off last night around 11:30PM EST, IoJ controlled at least half of our borderland. This is just plain stupid.
Paid transfer announcement caused many to jump ship, which now causes us to fight with a fraction of the numbers. We cant even put anyone on any other maps except our own border lands.
Completely destroys motiviation to play WvW. Make sure your matchmaking system takes into account the number of WvW players that play for each server as well.
Ugh
My kittens now
Yes, it does suck. A few other servers are experiencing it too, and a few tiers are very lopsided this week. Some servers have to decline for others to rise, sadly.
Just have to hope the system doesn’t take too long to sort the tiers out. If it’s any encouragement, many of the old “dying” servers have either bounced back (Dragonbrand) or have found their place at a lower tier and are greatly enjoying their current balanced matchups (Darkhaven, HoD, ET). It just takes time, and thankfully a subscription-less game like GW2 doesn’t punish you for taking a break or simply doing other stuff for awhile.
Stay strong IoJ!
I think I said this before, but unless at least 2 out of FA/Mag/Kain have become massively stronger (we’re talking significantly stronger than TC, at least – so the old FA-ers might have a frame of comparison) T2 is not going to be a good place to be. BG and SoR are the real deal – and with T1 only having 3 slots one of them will be in T2 every week.
What do you get for being in Tier 2?
You get to lose to tier 1 servers taking a vacation in tier 2 for the week, as it turns out
I don’t think anyone is giving any doomsday talks :o Just pointing out the reality of the scoring system. There is a very real possibility that SoR will be stuck in T2 if they don’t take the chance they have (that is, this week with a relatively dead third server), and that will definitely have an impact on the SoR community because they will be facing steamroll matchups for a good few more weeks and that does get boring. Nobody “wants SoR out” so much so that we just want the best for all servers involved in this match and for the tier. BG took a little too long to get to tier 1 (not their fault, of course) and their forces were dulled because they had little real competition, and it probably showed in their first week there. They are doing really well in T1 now.
It’s much easier to get people to fight harder than it is to tell people to just give up for the week, after all. Especially not TC ^^
I would just say…remember how long BG took to get to tier 1 back when they so clearly dominated the tier. They took even longer because TC entered the picture and messed up the ratings gain. The same thing will happen to SoR when a third server inevitably replaces SBI in T2 – SoR will likely tank in ratings because they won’t be able to take as many points from them compared to SBI. BG is also doing well enough as T1’s red team to not lose a significant amount of points, if at all.
So don’t take T1 for granted! A week or two of “getting ready” and suddenly you are trapped in T2 for 2 months. And I’m sure nobody really wants that.
I don’t know about the current T3 server’s relative strengths to TC. We are fairly transfer-stable, so some of them could well have surpassed us. I do agree that I’ll be extremely skeptical of putting anything ahead of Blackgate other than SoS/JQ/SoR. Blackgate is no joke lol.
Nice castle we have there!
Your red.
Yes, but the castle isn’t green!
Check out Yak’s Bend, they have over 9000 variations of the guild “The Older Gamers” and I think the general age of players is higher there. I remember those over 9000 variations to be active in WvW.
It’s oceanic/asian time now, TC has always had a very low population for this time slot. Plus this week’s matchup is a wash, so I’m sure there are people who are simply taking a break.
If I learned anything from playing on TC since release, it’s that they always come out to play. Maybe not right this very moment, but they will.
What T2 guilds transferred to Maguuma?
HoD are in a happy place now, I think. Took 3 months, but they won their tier. And are doing well in it this week as well I think.
I also agree that it’s poor form to characterize the guilds that mass shifted to SoR. We don’t know what has been going on behind the scenes as Mishi said. They could be bandwagoners, they could have been engaged in serious discussion and genuinely like the community, they could like the server name, or they could have rolled a freaking dice. Nobody knows. It’s not really fair to anyone to generalize when we know so little.
Don’t underestimate tier 2 is all I can say. SoR and BG were on a different level even before the transfers happened. It looks like they might be trading spots in tier 2 (even JQ might, depending on how things go) and I see very little hope for any current tier 3 server, transfers or not, that can compete with them. Not that I know how much tier 3 has changed, of course.
If I were T3 right now, I’ll be hoping those suckers in TC hold up in T2 for as long as possible to take the beatings while I enjoy a balanced T3 xD
It’s great how the servers respect each other enough that there is really minimal inter-server ribbing even in the face of a lopsided matchup. So much so that most of the arguments are now between server-mates!
I think everyone should be free to express what they feel about the server. If it’s negative, putting it out in the open might help to resolve it. TC has a strong heart – we may go through tough times like now, but I still believe ultimately everyone on the server no matter “hardcore” or “casual” values the kind of community and spirit we’ve built up through the months and are all in for the long haul. Those that don’t have probably long fled to the big boy servers, after all!
This needs some visibility. If not a reset, reverting to 24/48 hour matches for a week or so will also help the tiers settle much faster. WvW post 28th is going to be a terrible grind for at least a month if nothing is done for the servers that have had drastic population shifts.
When SBI had a large portion of active guilds leave I was fulling expecting the server to roll over during this week’s matchup.
They didn’t. People continued to show up, fought hard and took as much as they could, just like TC. To continue fighting and making a stand knowing that most of your server left to join the enemy and that the week will be a painful week of being rolled by overwhelming numbers – that is spirit. Respect to SBI.
I still do not understand why there are so many bandwagon jumper guilds. If a guild wants to transfer, that is fine. Why would they transfer to a higher ranked server though? The only difference between higher ranked servers and lower ranked ones are coverage. Why go someplace where they will need to deal with longer queues?
Because TIER ONE TOP RANKING SERVER
Honestly though, I don’t get it either. You don’t even win anything for winning WvW. People should sensibly be moving to ensure that each tier (and the adjacent ones) are as competitive as possible, to ensure long-term enjoyment of WvW. That’s basically the exact opposite of what’s happening though, so whatever.
I think it’s a great idea. The tiers are in chaos, and the rating system ensures that some servers will be facing a months-long journey to the bottom.
Slow down, ladies.
30 minute intervals on the +650 screenshots, please.
1. Tarnished Coast (It rhymes with garnished toast)
2-24. Nobody cares!
Best of luck, but again, ANet is not to blame for the actions of their player base.
What Anet is to blame for is creating such a flawed game mechanic in WvW that only constant server transfers make playing the game acceptable to a large part of the player base.
I don’t blame anet tbh. I blame a huge contingent of players who are too stupid to understand the consequences of mass server migration and too stupid to comprehend that going up in rank doesn’t mean anything except going up in population/timezone coverage.
But…but…TIER ONE! That means everyone in there are l33t. Gotta be l33t. If I’m gonna be stuck in a queue or beating down doors, I’m gonna be doing it on the TOP ranked server amirite.
I m Singaporean n played in Dragonbrand. Come here lah, very fun one. Players here very nice, no horse run. Got huge Taiwanese base players, so definitely no outmanned buff at night after work.
TC SGer more hardcore, play at night everywhere outmanned but always fighting! Run in huge zerg where got fun xD
CD is indeed the SG server. I remember when we played CD every night all the EDMW/Kome/EsF/Val will all come out and play and crush all in their way! All SG guilds right?
TC is likely the most populated server, or at least up there with SoS.
I don’t think there’s a “bad” server to transfer to for WvW purposes in the top 3 tiers, other than MAYBE Stormbluff Isle but I have no idea how badly they were hit. What I will advise against is to move to any of the winning servers in their tier – such as SoS and SoR. Not because they aren’t great servers, but because it’s just bad for competition. IoJ moving to FA made tier 3 amazingly balanced – imagine if they went to CD instead.
