Put Lore in Game, Not in Stories

I like the lore of this game. But the way Anet presents it is weird. Instead of putting the lore in missions in game, they put most of it in stories on their website. It makes it feel like i am playing a game based on the stories, rather than the stories being about the game. Their most recent one is about the zephyrites. Instead of releasing a bunch of journal entries on your website, why not put that same information somehow in game. Whether that means you talking to a zephyrite, or even putting it in a book in game. I would much rather read a journal on the ship than read an article on your website. I can never finish those stories. I would much rather listen to a cutscene or talk to an npc.

you make those stories written by a character from the universe. Put the character that wrote it in game so he/she can tell us. OR let us talk to the people since the stories are all about the present. In flame and frost, you gave us a character, rox, and instead of telling us what happened to her warband, you gave us a story on your website. Why can’t we ask her what happened? why cant we talk to her which will give us a cutscene similar to the one when you make your character or the one involving logan and margerie.

Keep Major LS Stuff,Rewards/achieves are Temp

Right now, you guys are sticking to your “keep it temporary” thing. You want to make people tune in for new content every couple of weeks. You make all these nice dungeons and zones, and then you just take them away. its just gone. If you would keep all the content available, you would have a whole bunch more missions to add to the tyria story and lore, and 2 or 3 more dungeons depending on how you look at it.

But keep the rewards, skins, boxes, and achieves all temporary. once the story is concluded, take all that away. this way, people are encouraged to come on and play while it is new for the rewards (thats why most people play it anyways), but people can still see what happened. I love being able to have things that nobody will ever be able to get again.

Keeping all the missions and dungeons would make it so your efforts in making it isn’t wasted. you literally throw away all the stuff you make after a couple weeks. Keeping the stuff will make your game grow constantly. currently, your game grows for 2 weeks, then goes back to its normal size, then grows again, then retracts again. Unless you keep the new zones and dungeons, it will never get bigger.

New players will have all of this living story stuff to do after their personal story. People complain about not having enough to do once they hit level cap. If you keep the missions and dungeons around, they will have plenty to do.

the zones. if you guys take away labrynthine cliffs, i will be so mad lol. I love the place. You dont have to keep the sanctum around. Just keep some vendors and people around. Keep the quartz nodes there so it isn’t barren. Which brings me to my next point. Southsun has had two periods of glory. It was all the rage when it was released, then after that weekend, it was barren. then you said “hey, lets make southsun have a point again” and released secret of southsun. It worked. Everyone went there, you added towns, buildings, people, and TEMPORARY content such as events and missions. Once they went away, nobody is there anymore. keep the missions and dungeon at the end, and people will go there more often and you wont have a useless zone in the middle of the ocean

so. what does everyone else think? Temporary rewards, but the major content stays. right now they keep little things like crab toss that nobody will ever play, but we need to be able to go back to the dungeons. why cant we continue to find molten alliance weapons facilities and break those?

Make Living Story Cohesive

Right now, each living story doesn’t have anything to do with the previous ones. For the most part anyways. dragon bash and sky pirates did a good job of connecting to each other, but dragon bash and southsun had nothing to connect them, flame and frost and secret of southsun had nothing to do with each other. I didn’t know there was a story with kiel and the zephyr sanctum because i had no idea there was a cutscene. I know the next update will be the election, and she is going to the sanctum to secure trade with the zephyrites, but Anet might not even mention the zephyr sanctum, aetherblades, or southsun during the election and it will make it so none of it ties together.

You are probably doing it this way so people don’t have to be there for one living story to understand the next one, but it would be better for those of us who are there for them to see the story develop rather than move on to something completely different. To catch the absent ones up on what they missed, have an NPC who recaps what happened.

Also, having each living story not really connect to the past one makes me not care about any of the characters. Margerie Delequa. I loved her personality, and i thought she was awesome, but she came into the story and then just disappeared without a word. We learn that kasmeer has something to do with margerie, but neither of them are in the new story. They will probably return and then disappear again, and so i won’t care about them anymore. They need to be in the story longer for me to care if something happens to them.

So in summary, i think the living story would be more interesting and engaging if each story had more to do with the last story. There are aetherblades attacking the sanctum. that doesn’t count. Also, do we ever find out how the trade negotiations work out? if you put that in the next story and kick it off like that, then that will be a good transition. living story is improving. keep going in a good direction.

Collectable Bestiary for Lore

I think for those people who want to know more about lore and such would like to have a sort of bestiary that they can look at and get a background of the different creatures around tyria. You could also make the different pages of it unlockable by say, killing a certain amount or even better, killing them for a chance at the page dropping (maybe each creature has multiple pages that drop and each one unlocks more information, and some pages being rarer than others)The unlockable aspect would make players have another thing to work for and show off while also learning more of the lore about the universe.

I would love to know what oakhearts are all about, or maybe some extra info on skritt and harpies, etc. And it will make people stick around longer. A lot of people spend most of their time unlocking titles and filling out achieves, this would give them one more thing to work on.

RnG Boxes were Done Well This Time

it really comes down to luck, guys. In other games, dungeon loot is based off of RNG and sometimes a person would get that item they want from a boss the first time, and others wouldnt get it for 5 runs. At least the RNG only applies to skins and not items with stats. Maybe next time you will be luckier than this time. At least you can still get shattered dragon wings

Living Story Takes Place of Expansions?

Personally I’d love to have living stories about the story packs in GW1 (where you could play as main characters in key events of GW1 story) but I don’t think they’ll do it

they have mentioned expansions before, and as for the second part of that, I have heard of an update called the bonus mission pack. It is a free update that does just what you said. You play as important characters going through main events such as you playing as the canthan (forget his name for some reason) that makes a treaty with the tengu.

RnG Boxes were Done Well This Time

People have been hating on the RNG boxes for the last few living stories, and rightfully so. Boxes were impossible to get without spending money in FF and in SoS, there was a rare chance for a box to drop which had a rare chance at a good item as well as the option to buy with money, which was an improvement. This time, it has improved again. Now you get these boxes from ALL creatures and very often, but you can also buy a better version with real money (the problem before was that there was still a very low chance for the boxes bought with gems to drop anything good).

So far, I have killed about 350 holographic minions ( 50 more than needed for achieve), and with all the boxes gotten from them and some from other creatures, I had 2 weapons tickets, a pair of wings, and 3 holographic risen knights drop. That is really good compared to the previous events where I got nothing. I understand that not all people were as lucky as me, but the fact that the boxes are much much easier to obtain from in game, and that you can buy improved boxes with real money if you don’t want to farm means that people have a greater chance at getting good things.

If you aren’t lucky and you don’t want to put the work into farming chests and you don’t wish to spend any real money (or gold for that matter by buying them off TP), then you won’t get those rewards. You can always get the shattered wings (which look cooler imo) for free from achieves. If you don’t want to do any of those things to get rewards and you still want to get these things, than you probably expect Anet to give you the items just for logging in which is crazy. But great job Anet. Your ability to produce living stories is improving each time a new one releases. Storytelling improved, the missions improved, RnG improved, and the rate at which content is put out improved. Again, good job.

First Person for Occulus Rift

A lot of people might not know of a new thing called occulus rift. It is a virtual reality headset that you strap onto your head and it allows your whole field of vision to become nothing but the game. When you turn your head to the left, your camera will move to the left as if you were looking in that direction. Looking at your ceiling would show you the sky in the game.

The only problem with this for GW2 is that there is no first person. You cannot be fully immersed with the occulus rift when you are looking at your character’s back. It doesnt seem like you are really there. There is now another reason to put first person in the game.

Obviously, if there are going to be expansions for this game, they will focus on the other dragons. But the living story seems to deal with other things about the lore that have nothing to do with the dragons at all. I am wondering if anyone knows if Anet plans on having expansions, or if they are just gonna do living story and eventually, they will release a big living story where other dragons are involved, or are they going to have an expansion and extend the personal story as well as having living story deal with other lore.

On a slightly different note, does anybody else think they should make living stories about things that happened in guild wars? like to wrap things up? There were a couple mentions of things from GW1 in the personal story, but they never really explained how that all ended up. The living story being announced tomorrow has a cool looking concept art picture, it might have something to do with a necromancer or something.

I’m not annoyed that they can attack back really cause it doesnt do nearly enough damage to kill you unless you sit there and let it happen for a minute. but the teleports keep you from getting the kill if you are fighting two people as you have to focus on the one still alive.

I knew that the developers didnt want to add cantha because of fear of people getting mad at stereotypes. But i just heard that they dont want to add cantha to the game at all now? Why? If there was going to be an expansion pack, i would want elona/crystal desert or cantha. I think a developer stated that they would put cantha in if the play ers really wanted it. I don’t really have a whole lot to say about this, but what do you all think? If you want to have cantha in the game in the future, make yourself heard!

Also, I believe that the dragon bash festival is based off the dragon festival which is a canthan tradition (both festivals take place at the beggining of summer and are about dragons) if there is gonna be no cantha then why put that in there?

First off, im not sure if you meant that this was YOUR video (as in you made it) or you just knew of a video. Im gonna assume thakittens not your own for the sake of this comment. I was also gonna refer you to zybaktv because he had good points that backed up my own thoughts.

In Firefall online, there is a downed state, but you cannot do any teleports or attacks at all, making the only reason to have the downed state is to possibly be revived. If the downed state wasn’t removed completely, I think it would be a good compromise to remove the teleports of mesmers and thiefs as those are the only two classes that get them.

Everyone (except for ranger for some reason) gets something that stops the enemy from stomping you. In a thief’s case, he gets two, smoke screen and teleport. But the teleport is far more useful than, say, a guardians pushback. Im pretty certain that if you have stability, then the pushback is useless, however, a thief’s teleport cant be stopped and the thief can teleport to a hiding spot. The thief will be hidden and be able to heal up until somebody finds them. And if he teleports out of a large fight, there is a chance nobody will find him. But the Guardian only gets about 5 seconds before the enemies go back to stomping him, which makes it a minor annoyance for the other team rather than a life saver for the guardian. My point of this is that the teleports are unfair not only for the other team, but in that mesmers and thief have a far better downed escape skill than everything else

Or just remove all of the classes downed stuns and knockbacks and teleports so there is no outrage from mesmers and thiefs

Conclusion: If we remove the teleports and knockbacks and such from the PvP downed state, then the downed state will allow you to recuperate yourself if there is no enemies around or if you are lucky and nobody is paying attention, but if there are enemies, they will finish you if nobody saves you. It gives you a fair second chance, but you can’t escape the battlefield.

Remove Downed State in PvP

PvP in this game would be perfect if it had no downed state. You cannot win against 2 opponents on your own regardless of skill (unless the 2 players are god awful). If one of the enemies goes to down state, he can heal while you attempt to kill the other. Or the other can heal the downed one while the downed one uses a stun or pushback skill while downed. Downed works great as a second chance in PvE, but in PvP it seems to make your skill not matter.

Also, another reason to remove it is the annoying teleport skills of some classes. They use it right before you finish them or they teleport away while you deal with another enemy and they heal themselves then join their allies, making it impossible for you to win when you are alone. On my thief I can manage to smoke screen and teleport at just the right times that I can be downed for at least a minute while they struggle to finish me when I should be dead since they managed to get my health to 0 before I was downed. Please remove downed state from PvP so those who really know their class and build can do very well against 2+ enemies who are just average

So I am gonna assume what happened is that when Anet fixed the problem where people in overflow could get the achieve early before everyone else, they fixed it by making the achieve not obtainable in overflow. The question is how did they not remember to fix that?

Custom Playlist- Zone Specific Music

When i make my custom playlist, i choose music from other games. (i think i wouldn’t make a custom playlist if each song of the default playlist was specific to each zone, because now it kinda blends together). Anyways, it would be great to make each zone have a specific song or playlist. this way each zone would have a more destinctive feel to it. you may not realize it, but music has a very big effect. if you played WoW and quit, and you go listen to the elwynn forest theme, or the barrents theme, you will want to go play that zone again. I think that if each zone could get its own song (custom playlist or not), i, and others, would want to stick around longer.

edit: I am assuming that adding this ability to the custom playlist would be just as easy as it was to add the ability to make custom “night” music have a different playlist than daytime.

New SPvP Joining System

When I am looking to join an SPvP game, i would like them to place me into a game where my opponents have similar experience to me. There is an option for that, but every time i do that, it puts me into a game that is empty or has 2 people dueling and i am forced to leave. If i try to manually join a game, i choose one that has 14 or 15/16 players, but by the time i try to join, it has filled. Wouldnt it make more sense for you to queue up, and have the game find 16 players before you are able to go into the instance? or at the very least, only make a new joinable instance when all the others are filled. that way you dont have 20 full games, and 200 empty ones

More SPvP Types

So far, every map in SPvP is basically the same with only a small new aspect added to each one. In every map you have to capture and hold the points. Why not make a capture the flag map, or a map where there is only one point and both teams fight for it?

Daily Hearts

I think that it would be a good idea to add hearts to Orr or Southsun Cove that can be completed once every day. Give people a few silver for doing them, and maybe add a few armor skins that you can buy with tokens from the hearts (skins, they don’t need to be exotic).

This will give people more cosmetic choices, another way to get money, and more of a reason to go the the lvl 80 zones besides events. I have not even thought about going to Southsun Cove since the event, and I find no reason to at all. Also, people would not have to do these to win at the game, because there are other ways to make money, and the gear skins wouldn’t give stats better than Exotics.
Also, it would be a good addition to Orr because it would give people more of a reason to go there other than just doing events, because on my server, it is much more empty now that there are other ways to get karma. Adding daily hearts in the lower level areas would also give level 80s a reason to go back to low level areas (right now there is no reason to go back). what do you all think?

LS Missions Both Good and Bad

The first two installments of Flame and Frost were kinda bad. They were teaser content used to test out the living story system, so it is forgiven by me. The third installment introduced missions that made the living story seem to have more of a point. It made you seem like you were actually doing something.

The Good: As stated before, the missions made you feel like you were doing something important, unlike how you felt fixing signs. These missions worked great alongside the other optional things you can do like the dead drops. The storytelling in the missions was so much better than the personal story. The cutscene method is much better than the dialogue screen used in the living story. Seeing people talk while doing actions worked a lot better than seeing people standing in one place doing nothing and talking. It made you care more

The Bad: There were a total of two missions where you could actually kill stuff. I liked the dialogue missions leading up to that because it got me to know the story. They are obviously needed or else the story would be lacking. The amount of missions is small, but each one was SO long. Both Rox’s and Braham’s missions had you doing the same thing (clearing an area, capturing a point, doing it again, killing boss), and the kind of mission i just described is kind of tedious to me. I think it is just because i hate the capturing of points. I think if that goal was taken out completely, it would be better. but that is just my opinion. anyways. Both missions had you do the exact same thing. The other bad thing is that i had a hard time finding where i should go next. I didn’t even know that I had completed the first dialogue mission because unlike the personal story, there was nothing telling you what to do next.

What do you all think of the missions?

Fantastic Story Content!

In five years of development they managed to create Personal Story, with modest branching, for five races. By my count, over 260 individual personal story elements. Even if they began working on the personal story right from the start, that’s about 6 personal story elements completed in a month. The game has been out for 7 months, so if they were working at full efficiency, they should have been able to create 42 personal story elements since launch. How many do we get in the entire Living Story to date? Two.

I liked both story elements revealed this month, but they really should have been able to deliver at least a four part story for each storyline for this month’s update and at least that many for next month as well.

This argument can be applied to Dynamic Events as well. How many thousands of DEs in the game? Promises that new DEs would be added constantly over the first year, with estimates that by the end of year one there would be 2x to 3x as many DEs in the game as at launch. How many new DEs since launch? Is it even a dozen?

the next living story should be something different, not follow the same storyline. maybe if they brought the molten alliance back later, though. for instance, maybe when the far shiverpeaks is released, the molten alliance is trying to set up a foothold there to work their way south. just not immediatly after this living story ends

Does the ‘Flame and Frost’ event end at some point? Having it be there permanently would be rather annoying since I haven’t done any of the content on any of my characters.

yes. this upcoming update will be the final installment. I am assuming that the flame and frost stuff will go away when the update after the next releases

Locked Asura Gate in Whispers Base

In the Order of Whispers HQ, there is an asura gate that is blocked off. Does anyone have any knowledge of lore that would indicate where that asura gate would lead to? I was thinking it isnt the Crystal Desert, as there is already a locked gate to there near ebonhawke. Cantha maybe? since we know they are pretty much the only ones with contacts to Cantha?

My Human Competed in Great Hunt?

I was working on map completion on my HUMAN guardian, and i talked to an NPC who said something along the lines of “I bet on you for the great hunt”. That may not have been exactly what he said, but he obviously was saying that he wanted me to win the great hunt, and I did.

this was in the Norn lands, and it would make sense if I was a norn, but i am a human yet he said it anyways. It shouldnt be a hard fix for Anet to make it so non-norn get a different message than Norn do. I don’t role play, but i would imagine that kinda ruins things lol

why do people forget about dungeons?

I have noticed that a large number of people on the forums talk about why they find this game boring (most people who arent bored spend their time actually playing the game). When they are saying things like “there is nothing to do at end game other than world bosses” etc, they seem to forget that you can do dungeons. Dungeons are a big part of this game. If you dont like dungeons, do PvP. If you don’t like either, why are you playing an MMO?

I find that there is plenty to do at endgame. Dungeons, Dailies, Fractals, PvP, WvW, exploration, achievements, events, world bosses, crafting. Why can’t other people find these activities? Or is it that they just don’t want to find them?

P.S, If you are one of the people who just doesn’t like the fact that there is no raids or higher tier dungeon, you are not one of the people i am talking about above.

I play every day, the time each day varies. I want to play this game for the same reason you play other MMOs. I want to get gear, and level up my characters to max level, get all achievements, etc.

Why this game? Well, I was following it for a long time, and since I quit WoW, I was looking for a new game to play. Tried SWTOR, didnt like it as much as i hoped i would, and I am now playing this.

Most of the friends i play this with are from my guild who i have played with on other games for 8 years or so.

I wish that there was a more hardcore tier of dungeons, like a raid, but hey, i am fine with what they got.

Just seems like the actual GUILD mechanic in GUILD Wars is lacking imo.

Do you understand that its not called Guild Wars because there are player Guilds? The “Guild Wars” was a war between the human guilds before Guild Wars 1 came out. I belive it was Orr, Ascalon, and Kryta fighting.

Same Armor Skins 1-60

Light and Heavy armor get a new set skin for every zone (1-15, 15-25 etc) they go through. Each one looks different from the others. Then you have the crafted sets for light and heavy. There is good variety. When I was leveling my ranger, I noticed that throughout the leveling process, you have a single skin from the heart vendors. It looks like the rawhide armor. That skin doesnt look too bad on a ranger, but now I am leveling my thief, and having a thief with that armor seems odd. Luckily I am a leatherworker and can make different looking sets. Is there any reason Anet made the leveling armor sets so limited?

The rawhide set eventually replaced with the pirate set, but then you have pirate armor for pretty much the rest of the game until you get to Orr.

Make Getting a Legendary Feel Legendary

I know that legendary weapons are supposed to be a thing that takes you a long time to get. You SHOULD have to spend a lot of money to get the legendary, but getting a legendary seems not legendary.

Let me give you an example. For the shield “Flameseeker Prophesies”, you have to do basically the same thing you need to do to get all of the other legendaries with a few things unique to that item. Instead of sitting at the mystic forge to try and get all of your clovers (which should be taken out completely or made so it is no longer on a dice roll), sitting at a crafting table trying to get all of your ingots, or sitting at the TP buying everything you need instead, and then finally getting an item, you should have a sort of storyline mixed in. This storyline should take you to the edges of the continent (much like the paladin mount quests for WoW. dont make the comments an argument about WoW).

For the Flameseeker Prophecies, which has heavy relevance to Guild Wars 1, you should have to do a storyline that involves you visiting areas that have to do with the “Flameseeker Prophecies” from GW1. This story would involve you learning about what happened in that time period, visiting iconic locations, etc.

I understand that just having that storyline would be way to easy, so they should still add in the crafting elements, needing to buy 100 icy runestones for 100 gold, getting 250 of all the ingots, etc. Also, you should still need world completion, but also you should have to get an item from every dungeon, every path (which would also fix the issue of people not doing the more difficult paths), killing all the dragons to, i dont know, get a magical scale from each one which you then have to combine with a lost dwarven artifact from the storyline into the mystic forge to get one of the components to make the legendary.

So… just stuff like that. It would make more people think about getting a legendary, rather than now where they look at the list of items needed and instantly give up. What do you think?

I want to keep it small. I want it to be so people can be more familiar with each other and work together and complete dungeons faster. I always wanted 15, but I never got around to recruiting the rest

Hi, A while ago I put this group together to eliminate the need for pugs, but also not need an entire guild for getting good dungeons. It was working good, but not people are starting to not be able to play for a while because of exams coming up, making people not available to do runs.

I need to recruit 6 more people for a total of 15. I chose just 15 people because I wanted us to get to know each other, making it easier to run dungeons because we have worked together before, but large enough so we dont have to rely on each person to be online.

How this works: We have a Facebook group called “Balthazars Circle” (which is also the name of the guild I will be inviting you to. You do not need to represent the guild ever). You need to make a FB profile under your in game name and join the group. I post updates and dungeon run times each day. Every sunday I will post that weeks dungeon runs. All times are GMT, and you must live in NA.

Just leave a reply if you are interested in joining. I try to focus on the original dungeons rather than fractals because fractals is a really easy dungeon to get a PUG for now. You must be online most nights, unless of course you just cant get on for a vacation or you have something to do that night. There is a dungeon run on most nights, and I try to vary the times so everyone can get into a run at a time that is reasonable to them.

Daily Hearts

I think that it would be a good idea to add hearts to Orr or Southsun Cove that can be completed once every day. Give people a few silver for doing them, and maybe add a few armor skins that you can buy with tokens from the hearts (skins, they don’t need to be exotic).

This will give people more cosmetic choices, another way to get money, and more of a reason to go the the lvl 80 zones besides events. I have not even thought about going to Southsun Cove since the event, and I find no reason to at all. Also, people would not have to do these to win at the game, because there are other ways to make money, and the gear skins wouldn’t give stats better than Exotics.

Also, it would be a good addition to Orr because it would give people more of a reason to go there other than just doing events, because on my server, it is much more empty now that there are other ways to get karma. Adding daily hearts in the lower level areas would also give level 80s a reason to go back to low level areas (right now there is no reason to go back). what do you all think?

If you play GUILD Wars without a guild, you really are missing well over half the game. If I were playing this alone, I’d have put a maybe 200 hours into it and found a better single player game, but when playing with real friends, there is a near endless amount you can do. Guild Wars is a great community game. Don’t play alone.

That isnt why its called Guild Wars by the way.
