Make the best personal rewards in WvW come from killing enemy players, not capturing objectives.
perhaps you are new to WvW, but killing enemy player is not, nor has every been, the actual object of the game mode.
WvW is PvP, if you like WvE you can go EoTM.
Capturing objective should be the least rewarded thing in WvW, defending and killing other players should be far more rewarding.
Remind us again, How do you win a match up?
By having the most stacked server, everyone knows that, play a few MU and you will realise that.
Fail

The no.4 sucks as well. It’s pretty sad, considering I absolutely love both abilities, but only purely because of their animations.
Path of Scars doesn’t suck at all. You can pull off some great combos with the pull, the damage is good and it piercies.
Wouldn’t mind Whirling Defense getting some love, tho. Even the baseline radius of the skill is underwhelming.
You do realize you’re replying to a 2yo post right XD ?
I understand all of your concerns on whether or not im even qualified to be called a “specialist”. So here are some of my stats that may help with those concerns.
Total hours: 2,500 WvW rank: 300 Total AP: 8,500 Total Kills: 5,700The worrying thing is that you consider those stats to be sufficient to be defined as a ‘specialist.’ Your rank is disproportionately low compared with the number of hours you’re claiming you’ve put into the game. That means most of your in-game focus has likely been elsewhere and not in WvW.
I think the main reason is due to this:
In fact here is one of the requirements:
- must have a Guild Wars 2 forum account in good standing with a history that includes minimal, if any, warnings or infractions
That alone probably disqualifies most of the more active members of the WvW Forums.
So any active WvW players who post regularly here would not meet that requirement, as we’ve been infracted for our concerns.
You get an infraction because you violate the terms of conduct, not because anet doesn’t like you or your comment XD.
The effort it takes to keep 2 guards or warriors or mesmers or turret engineers in bay is minimalistic compared to 2 rangers. If almost impossible for the latter.
If thieves can keep any two opponents at bay, then thieves are OP. There should be at least one 2v1 matchup that is unfavorable for a solo thief.
It’s funny how you minimize my effort and compare it to a class that uses 2 abilities 90% of the time to win just about any other class at long range.
It’s not like I’m staying in 1 place spamming #3 as the guy above suggested. Guess you guys can’t wrap your mind around this concept.
The current situation is so pathetic, it reminds of Gw2’s launch where everyone ran zerker and warriors were wrecking everything in 2-3 hits before they ate the nerfbat.
You man deserve a medal, or more lube… maybe both XD ?
As a necro I despise pew pew rangers. I play a class that is least equipped to deal with an 1800 range pew pew, as read the wind artificially increases the range on an already traited longbow. It really depends on you class you play when facing the ranger on my mesmer or guard I’m fine, thief as well. That being said I think the only problem with pew pew ranger is it forces you to work as a team to get one guy down (this should be the norm however it is not sadly.), and the fact that read the wind increases range and velocity.
Also for those that say Power ranger is not the meta, the community disagrees with you:
http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Ranger_-_Read_the_Wind_Power_Ranger
Read the wind does not increase range, you should at least inform yourself a little bit.
http://metabattle.com/wiki/MetaBattle_Wiki – look carefully, where do you see ranger in the meta ? it is not there, its in great builds, and there are a lot of build in that section, some are not even good, like read the wind ranger.
Another fail I presume, will top PvP player come back for this ? not a chance.
No, but will 11+ new skills per class, reworked traits, and a brand new profession? Most likely. Whether they stay around for long is a question of how well ANet follows up on balancing, but for a while the game should be pretty active, it is a ton of changes and is sure to mess with the meta.
sPvP is designed for casual players, nothing more, this expansion will only bring back some of them but no good player will look at it, it’s just not the game and it never has been. I still enjoy it for a few matches when I have some free time but if I want a real PvP I go somewhere else like most people do
Another fail I presume, will top PvP player come back for this ? not a chance.
To be honest, ranger is just really unbalanced in 1v1’s. The quality of the ranger depends alot on the enemy build, for example gs warriors/thieves/dd ele can easily use gapcloser skills to get close, however there are also alot of builds/classes that do not have such ability, for example caster ele’s and powernecro’s, apart from the fact that the ranger often hits atleast 25% off the enemy his HP before he is able to react. Then when the ranger is still at 100% hp and 1900 range he is able to burn down the enemy before he can even attack incase he’s squishy builded.
I’m not claiming that ranger is OP in any way, i’m just saying that whenever a class gets an unfair advantage, in this case a very long range, it can be frustrating for enemy classes when they get beaten by some1 abusing this unfair advantage. It’s the same reason why we all hate thieves :P
You are wrong. At everything.
Make a ranger and be happy.Actually i do have a ranger, i’m not claiming in any way that your class is OP or whatsoever i’m just saying that the ranger has a very big advantage/disadvantage against specific classes. And for that 2nd part, any WvW player knows it that there’s nothing more frustrating then a ranger/thief taking you insta down because you didn’t pay attention for a second while you were running to an objective.
Always pay attention in PvP.
Condi engi hard counter spirit ranger, it has plenty of AoE damage to kill your spirit, good healing, nice CCs and blocks, your only chance is to out damage them with conditions but I’m not sure it’s possible unless the engi is bad.
Best thing you can do is to run the other way and let him cap the point.
It has flaws… But also very rewarding uses.
For example – if you pair it with Shared Anguish – and someone tried to interrupt your finisher > not only you’ll push the CC onto the pet – but you’ll also become invisible for the time you are finishing your target.
This mechanic won pretty serious teamfights for me countless times.
It also helped me survive, because even if it lasts for 1 second only if you were knocked or feared – it also detargets you – giving you some precious time and window for errors to your enemy.
Yes I also used to paired them but the investment is huge, too much for something this random.
The ONLY time ranger is overpowered is when people don’t understand how to play the game.
And here it comes, a typical ranger main telling us that Ranger is an L2P issue.
He forgets the fact that Ranger baits out dodges easy because attacks are easy to land and pet baits dodges too while you can’t count Ranger dodges.
He forgets the fact that Ranger has protection on dodge when they DO get hit by something.
And when the ranger is getting condi bursted or spiked? They pop signet of renewal and/or signet of stone.
They also have kittened mobility for an evade spam class.Keep defending your class. Ranger class takes no skill and will always be effective no matter how good other players are. I bet you enjoy bragging about your accomplishments as a ranger when truth is people who play ranger are probably one of the most illiterate people that you’ll see.
TL;DR People play ranger because it’s so easy to play and that they fail at classes which need actual thought process.
No good player use ranger sPvP, there are far better classes out there, you will realise it when you get better at the game.
The trait is simply bad, what about :
Swap position with pet, also applies camouflage 3s.
So what’s your opinion?
So far you’re only countering players who claim GvG isn’t a 25 vs 25 TDM.
What I think he ment was “we don’t care how it’s called as long as it’s fun and engage the comunity in a form of competition that cannot be found elsewhere”
It’s a Guild vs Guild. You don’t like it ? it offends you ? your problem, you can go back defending your shiny circle from a decapper and forget about all this.
I wouldn’t be so quick to call it an advanced version.
It have the whole standard thing (the match ends when the enemy lord is killed) and adds stuff on top of that.
Isn’t that the very definition of an advanced version?
If we can learn something from GW2 PvP history is that everything compared to GW1 is a downgrade, I bet GvG will be the same.
You can check this website :
In my opinion Anet doesn’t want to improve the GvG experience in WvW for 1 main reason, it would drive away some of the few people that still play PvP.
I know it keeps hitting, hence my observation.
My question was, aren’t you supposed to lose target and therefore miss""? What are you shooting at if the target is no longer there?
Yes it lose the target but if the enemy has already chaneled the skill it will still hit you, not only ranger has this kind of skills. It is ment to be this way otherwise stealth would be severly OP.
Sollution:
1.) Buy a tag
2.) Tag upIf you already own a tag go straight for step #2
This, tag up and from nowhere little mouses will dress you like a princess and give you a big army of brutal assassins, but remember to get back to spawn before midnight.
Hey guys, i am playing some SPVP matchs and im enjoying the condi ranger. I just have a doubt about WvW roamming.
Whats the better stats to use? Dire, Rabid or Settler? (In Overall condi builds)
It all depends on your build and playstyle, you want to be more tankier ? use Dire. Rabid if you want more crit shance. Settler if you intend to build for regeneration
You give ANet far too much credit. They’ve even said it’s not working as intended in the CDI thread I believe?
I wonder which side of the debate has more supporters.
If it wasn’t working as intended they would have changed it, but please feel free to quote me the dev reply, otherwise your statement has no purpose other than instigate a false believing.
If you are unable to use a skill as simple as AA you have some serious L2P issues.
At what point do we acknowledge that we shouldn’t have to work around a problem?
So what you’re saying is that you just want easymode. Too lazy to work around a unique class mechanic, with the argument, that some other classes have it easier… Nice…
Again, why should I have to work around something? Working around it implies it has a negative, unintended effect.
The only problem with Sword AA is when you start the chain against an invisible opponent, the rest is just L2P issues.
A lot of people have been hoping for hammers because of GW1. Thematically I think that’s a bit weird since we’re supposed to be these dexterous scout type fighters, but then again we also have a 12 foot long 2-handed sword option.
My guess is the staff will be AoE. I’m not sure why people don’t think rangers have support, it just needs to be traited for. Full spirits was the PvP meta for a very long time, and we also have pet boons, “Guard!”, spotter, MT, etc.
After the nerfing within the spirits they become completely useless. Shouts with the right traits could be nice in paper (there is Master trait that gives regeneration + swiftness with every single shout). Unfortunately the healing is too low and the shouts CD is too high for the effect they give. Also most of them are broken.
It’s proven that right now the only playable builds for ranger are signets and survival. Any other is just people talking while they don’t play anymore with the ranger or they play only static world bosses.
Man what are you talking about ? I can’t even tell if you are trolling here. Spirit ranger is not useless, it might be less effective than DD ele right now but it is still a valid option, as it is condi survival, trapper ranger and BM ranger.
What!? Trappers are out now?
I’m honestly asking, I’ve been in and out the game, I remembered it being pretty strong on PVP and WVW, on PVE… the cap on conditions…
Sorry, AND TRAPPERS. Traps are awesome, although there are a lot of problems with Trapper’s Expertise trait that fires before touching ground messing up the stealth but traps is also a way to go for the melee ranger.
You see, this class is completely broken, all the skills has bugs and issues that break their usability.
You have me lost here, traps don’t trigger mid air, once the trap touches the ground it has a small delay before stealth kicks in (this way you can place a spike trap right under your target and still get the stealth), those runes are not available in PvP for the moment.
What is broken with this class ? name me 1 skill that has a bug that breaks its usability.
Sic’em works, you just need to apply it before the target goes in stealth, it also has 2000 ranger. LB3 apply stealth only when the arrow stuck the target, much like C&D.
Thank you saving me to suffer that skill. So Sic’em DOES NOT work.
Having to use it BEFORE the target uses stealth when the skill is for REVEAL stealthed targets is just the definition of broken.Your mistake, the skill is not ment to reveal, always read the skills carefully guys, it say REVEALED, which is an effect:
Revealed “ You cannot stealth." — In-game description.
Ok, so this shout is less than useless. Could be a waste of a precious skill slot as well.
6 secs of “ You cannot stealth." it is just a joke for the perm-stealth thieves (the only class that actually uses stealth).
6s of revealed is not useless, if used at the right time it’s a death sentence for most heavy stealthers, but it is not an “I win” button. It’s very good against thiefs; PU mesmers; engis and other rangers.
Only solution I can see is to make OS arena an instanse everyone can rent, why I think it is better than allowing duels in PVE ?
1) PvE is a non competitive game mode, that’s way you can only brawl fight in PvE.
2) People can set rules and allow in only certain players.
3) People can duel with PVE gear in a PvP zone.
4) Guilds can do GvGs.
5) Anet gets some money from it.
6) It’s the easiest way to prevent trolls from ruining the fun.
It all depends, but GW2 WvW is too casual and MUs are meaningless for servers to be bothered doing 2vs1, it can also be very dangerous since every week or so servers will change.
Only time I saw a real 2vs1 was in first league, the second and third server focused the first server making it lose 2 MU.

This is how you set up a ranger for max LB damage. Rune of Pack give 2% less crit chance then Rune of the Ranger, but offers 175 more power, this power in turn bumps up your damage more then the added ferocity from ranger runes.
Correct DPS rotation is: RAO, Signet of the Wild, Quickening Zephyr then use Rapid Fire. End result should be around 13-15k max on the heavy golem, upwards of 17k on light golem, depending on how lucky you are with critical hits.
PRO-ranger here, all go away!
Ranger runes gives you 7% of raw damage output! You, ranger-hater.
Also “RAO, Signet of the Wild, Quickening Zephyr” sure, you can use it every time just on demand. And only noobs will use QZ, because you need 2 dodges to avoid RF completely, but with QZ it’s enough only 1. Genius, just genius.
Also, do I need to say, that QZ do not increases your damage – what point in placing it to rotation?hey, there PRO ranger.
The reason to take quickening zephyr, IS TO KILL EM BEFORE THEY REALIZE THEY SHOULDA DODGED IN THE FIRST PLACE.
It is also a handy thing to have, WHEN YOU WANNA MAUL PEOPLE BEFORE THEY KNOW THAT THEY SHOULD DODGE.
It is a stunbreak, so unless you expect massive hammer stun spam, it can more often then not prove more potent then LR, because you can use it both offensively and defensively.
The more you know.
That can only work against a very noob player, or one of those people that have some serious reflex problems.
= Just wanted to leave a sidenote: Pets should follow (& maybe reveal somehow) stealth enemies… they have senses what we don’t (why we can’t get it?!)… =
not to mention stealth should interrupted on taking damage anyway…
We already have thaat. It’s called Sic ’em. On the right power build a ranger has no problem with stealthers anymore. On condi.. well on condi a ranger never had problems vs any class anyways…
@Yelloweyedemon.2860:
Sick’em never works – at least at me. It just supposed to block the stealth but doesn’t reveals. #DontAskMeToUseCondiBuildForAFairFight:)@Viking Jorun.5413: IMHO it won’t be a problem unless user knows what stealth is for.
But they can make a rule like stealth only falls off when taking x% damage of base health after its applied.
Don’t get me wrong, but this mechanic is the most overly exploited – there are builds where the thieves do serious damage while evading all time and just disappearing.Y’know, when I apply LB stealth, its terribly delayed, and gives a LOT of time to my enemies to start an autolocking skill/spell on me. But when I encounter these thieves, their stealth falls off a second+ later before game allows me to target them at all.
Something is really wrong with the current stealth mech.
Sic’em works, you just need to apply it before the target goes in stealth, it also has 2000 ranger. LB3 apply stealth only when the arrow stuck the target, much like C&D.
It is a very good strategy and can roll the dices on your favor, is it easy now ? no it is not since Anet decided to follow the suggestion of karma trains and noobs to remove the commander buff, or atleast make it invisible to enemy forces.
With my Mesmer I used to moa the enemy commanders a lot, but that alone wont win a fight, it just gives you an upper hand.
REALLY? WOW… 10 minutes between posting!??!? W___TF is this!??? It’s like they don’t want posting on their on forum or something. And no, time between post doesn’t equate to quality either.
It’s to counter spammers like you :P
I swear, there seems to be a thread for each class that says they are overpowered.
Even classes that arent playable yet :

[Prediction Suggestion]Stealth in Stronghold
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: sminkiottone.6972
Stealth will be fine, you do know that ranger and engi can reveal stealthers right ?
“You will have teams running around invisible. Bye bye spectator e-sports.” lol.
Drop your detailed model display count to low or lowest and you’ll see huge improvements in your FPS.
However that increases your framerate, I would never do that because I would hate to see everyone wear the same armour.
Well here we come to the problem. People expect to be able to run a hundred super-detailed, unique character models on the screen with silky smooth 60+ FPS. Again, show me ONE game that can do it today.
So far I’ve only gotten some non-comparable examples of single-player games. Those comparisons just don’t apply, so try again.
ESO, with better graphic, more people and more effects on screen runs better than GW2.
I don’t like to say it before we see it, but i wont like it..
I’m just more then sad that we have no true archer class in GW2 like we used to know Ranger in GW1Well, Rangers weren’t archers in GW1. They were rangers. With traps, spirits, preparations, stances, pets. And a bow. A weapon you could easily swap out depending on your secondary profession (the ranger was probably the most versatile class in that regard). Expertise was their profession attribute, marksmanship wasn’t.
The ranger in GW1 was a true archer, the bow was the primary weapon of rangers, with most skills influencing the bow.
Id like to see few skills/utilities :
Vines wall – creates a wall of vines that prevents enemies from cross it, 5000 HP once the viens are destroyed the wall vanishes.
Spring of life – Healing skill with water field, little initial heal, cure conditions, low cd (10s?)
Osmosi – Takes conditions from allies and redirect them to the closest enemy.
Same can be said about other classes. Engi got same or greater range using grenades, bit trocky to land but that direct damage plus condition spam is really devastating. It also have more stealth, more boons, destealth, blind immune, 20 times the AOE and party buffs. It can do most if not all of this with ONE BUILD, ranger would need 3 builds for it.
Warrior has 1500 range on KS, use frenzy + endure pain and you can oneshot a ranger without ever being in danger. Warrior can run mace + shield with arrow reflect and justwalk up to the ranger and bash its face in. And even then, mace shield is effective against many other builds.
Mesmer GS got second highest single target damage, it barely loses out to ranger before you reach insane range, it also have mad burst, stealth, reflects blocks and evades. In addition to teleports, boon removal and boon uptime.
Mediguard has instant teleport and more defenses in addition to more damage then any LB ranger.
LB ranger is nothing special, it has one trick, ranged nuke, everything else, everything, it plain sucks at.
No group support, no real sustain beyond its one block and one direct damage invuln.Only trolls and baddies claim LB ranger is a major issue. Everyone else know how to deal with them.
How dare you talking some sense in this forum ?
New weapons could add new playstiles, something that could actually improve the game, better than a new class if you ask me.
Polearm : the best weapon for massive battles giving the upper hand against GS/Hammer, less powerfull in small group fights.
Crossbow : long range spike ability, poor close range utility.
Whip : CC weapon with little damage, perfect for small group fights.
Boomerang : Why not ?
There are a lot of possibilities, just use the immagination
On the other hand, it amazes me that players are willing to spend 1800 gems or so to get 2 extra chests with blue/greens for a couple of weeks. Are people actually doing that ?
The problem is that Anet has given free transfers to certain server just before the start of a league, I only remember PS, Gandara, RoF but Im sure there where others. That pretty much made people bandowagoning to them in order to get better rewards.
Seems like we simply have very different views on crippled computer then.
In my eyes something is crippled when it makes it impossible to do certain tasks. Having a bit lower FPS doesn’t really do that.
Matter of perspective I suppose.I don’t really see all much difference on picture two.
And while I see some difference on picture one, it is not even close to that much difference in this game. It is all a matter of perspective.
Isn’t 30 FPS basically standard on console-games? And yet people don’t have any real issues with that.
If that tiny bit of difference is such a big thing I am starting to think that it is more a matter of complaining for the sake of complaining rather than having actual issues with it, seeing as it in no way or form makes the game even slightly unplayable.
Only 25% (estimation) of people perceive more than 60 FPS, some wont even perceive 24 fps, others like trained pilots can go up to 200 +, USAF also discovered that some pilots would get sick playing at 30 FPS on theyr flight simulators.
Thinking about it it makes me wonder if you can see small objects moving fast like a tennis ball or a hockey puck ?
i wonder what the people that are defending lb ranger are playing in wvw most of the time. Are you guys even roam? and if so do you roam with 5 men all in pvt to cap a camp? are you playing with dire perplexity gear?
Its a whole diffrent experience, if rapidfire hits u for lets say 4k or if it hits you for 10k, if the auto hits you for 4k or for 1k from a 1500 range.
I think if you really wanna know whats going on with ranger atm you have to play one and see for yourself… Maybe i should record a bit ranger lb gameplay.
I do mostly solo roaming, usually with my trapper ranger and s/d thief, sometimes I use LB ranger to scout.
LB ranger is good yes, but it’s far less powerfull than trapper ranger and other builds, if you can’t win against a LB ranger you have 0 chances to survive vs most roaming builds.
Lets hope they dont repeat the same mistake for the 4th time
Well when there is 50-80 enemies barrage works just fine.
So you’re tagging a zerg, hoping that your zerg wins, and that you don’t die to retal… and this is you being more effective than you are on your ele? I… I don’t know what’s left to say… every time you respond you are just making yourself look worse…
Lol, junkpile is just an amazing troll (no offense), you should never take him seriously
Why ? Anet forces a WXP reset before a league and that’s more than I like XD.
In all honesty the only things important to cap are applied strenght and applied fortitude, the rest is trivial, and for that you only need 230 WXP.
Maybe the plan is to force pvp players in to spvp (with all it’s build and food restrictions)…in which case the plan might be working.
Don’t forget to put on your tinfoil hat.
If it was for me I would also remove the waypoints from keeps and garry, so the big blobs would be punished even more
This is just ridiculous. This is one of those times I’m certainly glad you don’t work for Anet and the fact that I’m pretty sure they’re not even reading these threads anyway. You are seriously alone here in all of these threads and it’s a good thing that you are.
I don’t think Anet will ever listen to me and don’t want to, it would be cool if it was just a little bit less noob firendly
@Baldrick.8967 Let’s agree to disagree, obviously my view of WvW is very different than yours ^^. I always play in maps where Im outnumbered and I find these change helpfull for underdog server, you clearly experienced the exact oppsite
I would go with something like this :
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fNAQNAsXRjEq0yaDLGsQ0aADhq9J8ulAzAoddtDFsqB-TVDBABmqyAGHBgFMhskSOJOEABpODAPAAHMfli+AKUCuqyhMOBAzs/ApA0TZE-w
Traveler runes are not that good on ranger considering that the pet doesnt get benefit from the bonus, if you want perma regen dwayna runes are better and free you from 2 utility slots and 4 traits that you can invest in emphatic bond.
Also torch seems pretty usless in a power build, it’s better axe that has a pull and retaliation. And try using a pet like dog/spiders with immob abilities, will help you land maul better.
The discussion about white swords is, however, a distraction from the real problems that WvW faces – it would actually be a good change if server population was somwhat identical – and I don’t mean the people registred on that server but the active part of it that does WvW.
I partially agree on this point, the thing people still don’t understand is that WvW like daoc/war/eso always had a population problem and always will. Anet can try to find something to mitigate the advantage a more populated server has, like allowing 2vs1 for example, I belive the removal of white swords is a start in the right direction.
Before the removal of white swords the bigger zerg could carelessly Ktrain all over the maps and defend those objective that where tagged by swords, now against a smaller but more organized server it can loose more than it can conquer.
