With the upcoming Season escorting dolyaks will be more important than ever, maybe anet will put some achievements for defence like :
- Dolyakboy : escort 50 dolyaks succesfully
- Pointholder : Defend succesfully 50 objectives
- Master of refresh : Refresh 50 sieges ( sieges must have less than 30 mins left imo )
- Architect of the univers : upgrade 20 times
- Guild honor : cap and provide buffs to your server for N hours ( guild shared achievement )
Those are just ideas, also numbers are placed randomly, but hopefully anet has already took into consideration the feedback we gave during and after 1 season and prepared new achievements based on those feedbacks.
Also, Anet could make new achievements for dailys and monthlys for supporting your server.
I think you are onto something very interesting with your pure lockdown build.
To get rid of the cons:
Bring a thief and moa morph and all your thief problems are gone, your build will synergize insanely with thieves (you will cut through bunkers like they were made of paper) and to stop the enemy thief it takes a thief anyway.
Put a condi necro on top and things will get really nasty, people will not be able to do anything.
I just started experiencing with this lockdown concept and It really is amazing
Yesterday I did some tests with my mesmer 30/10/30 against a thief ( d/p at first and then d/d )
To beat the d/p build I had to use moa morph cause he kept stealthing when he was low Hp, he had full condi cleans, so my immobilizes where always cleansed before I could finish my burst, it also had lots of blinds so it wasn’t easy to interrupt/burst.
The d/d was fairly easy to beat, he didn’t had enough utilities/skills to prevent my bursts.
After all I was pleased with this build, a lot of potential, I belive this build after the balance patch will be awesome for skirmishes
p.s. do you belive it’s better a balance set of armor/trinket or a full zerker set ? I was playing with a balanced set and the damage wasn’t bad considering the fact that I could easily put 15+ staks of vuln on the thief
Dueling should be a very low priority for few reasons :
1. This game is not balanced around 1vs1, can you immagine how many threads will open just to expres frustration and a call for balance XD ?
2. You can already duel in sPvP, but there are some cheesy builds.
3. Obsidian Sanctum is perfect for those who want to use super cheesy builds and win easily.
What do you need more ? you want to fight in PvE ? well this game is not designed for it, go play L2/DF/Ecc..

Aye the match for AG / FSP / VS is abit of a joke playing wvw this week ( im from FSP )
my hopes are when VS find them selves with a suitable lead like i dunno 100k+ they would step back abit and atleast let FSP and AG try and duke it out abit ( i know its not gonna happen since humiliating lower tiered servers seems more important than actually have good fights ) but im also wierd that way :’( ( i need a hug )
They are not playing to humuliate us, they just play like we do, the proble is they can have big numbers in every bls, like it was yesterday afternoon, we FSP were like 3 ppl on VS bl and they where just waiting for us to flip something.

Survival of the fittest is a pretty good trait imo, paired with ampathic bond and signet of renewal we will be countering condi classes pretty hard
Read the Wind suks a little bit yeah, but if anet gives us the chance to use active signet on ourselfs without trait it will be a good GM trait for 1vs1/small skirmishes.
Right now LB is only good if the enemy doesn’t see you, if hes aware of you he can just zig zag to you position and burst you down very easly.

Let’s not forget that it’s difficult, if not impossible, to truly measure the value of any single change/addition without looking at the larger picture. Until we have more information (especially regarding changes to other professions, not just our own), speculating on the future state of eles is pointless.
I could see this being particularly useful in WvW (or GvG, if you’re into that), but reserve judgment until we know more.
If I’m not mistaken devs also said they will buff the blast on waterfields to make it more important to have healing power, as it is right now if you have 2k or 0 doesn’t change much ( 400hp).
Imo Anet is going in the right direction for WvW/PvP, we need more buffs to support roles.
For PvE I don’t know, it doesn’t look good as a trait but I don’t really care about it, the only thing I whish is that anet wil be focused on WvW/PvP and not PvE with everything balance related.
I disagree. A good condi PU Mesmer should be able to outlast even a Shadow Arts Thief. Debilitating Dissipation alone will majorly hurt any x/d Thief CnD’ing off of your clones, plus the perma-cripple from Crippling Dissipation will keep them from landing their burst and mess up their overall general fluidity in the fight.
The only exception is a P/D Perplexity Thief, which can condition burst you with more than you can cleanse and doesn’t need to be at close range to do so.
Those are great point to stay alive, but I still can’t figure out how can you kill a competent thief, you can only apply 2 major condition to him and he can cleanse them very easily.. I might miss something ^^
They key to kill thief with this build ( i run sometimes same build ) is the timing.
To mitigate the attack, u can use : 2 sceptre, F4, Stealth ( with PU you have one block free too ), 2 from sword and 4 from sword.
It’s a lot of utilities. The best one in your setup is 2 sceptre which apply a 7k torment if you are full Dire armour.
80% of thief just attack without thinking and timing. When thief stealth, you wait 1 or 2 second and use your sceptre. If he hadn’t attacked you when block is active, you stealth with torch or other skill. Try make some clones to brain him. If he kills them he gain some condition on him.
Try to heal in stealth and with 3 clones up if you use the active heal or just put almost every time 3 clone up if you use the signet.
2 sceptre is 10 second cool-down which is very short, use it a lot but with timing. with experience you will predict more easily when thief will attack and you can counter it.
Most of time with this simple tactic I kill them or they run off. I’m not a very good messmer but power thief are easy in this build. Condition thief is another problem …
A competent player will never eat your torment, it’s very telegraphed skill and easily avoidable, its also easy to clean it.
And the OP has 1.7k condi dmg, I doubt Sword/sword will help him a lot…
BTW, I’m not saying it’s impossible to kill thief(same or better skill than you), it’s just hard for me to belive someone will actually autoattack with 14 staks of confusion or run all over the place with 5 stacks of torment… thief has generally more stealths than mesmer and also better access to poison/conditions in general…
IF the thief is good and has remove condition on stealth/runes/ecc..( which a lot have) you can’t kill him with PU mesmer condition based, heres why :
You have only 2 major conditions which are confusion ( good against noobs) and torment which is applied by scepter 2 and only a noob will attack you, and even if you manage to block an attack the thief can 1) dodge 2) go stealth an clean torment, he will then come back and burst you down till he kills you.
I main a mesmer and I completely annihilate people. especially warriors they stand no chance lol

I’m no expert with mesmer so there will be better build/tips, but with this one I rarely have any problem 1vs1 :
This is a standard shatter build, as soon as you understand the concept of shattering it will rocks a lot, against power based specs or 1vs2 i usually prefer portal instead of arcane thievery to confuse my enemys even more.
You always need to pay attention on where are your illusions/you and your target is, there was a video on this forum explaining everything important for shatter mesmer, maybe someone will find it.
The mesmer as a great survivalability even in serker builds, the important thing is to dodge/daze/portal/stealth at the right time, and of course burst in the right way.
Or a dire armor + perplexity is alway good against noobs

I’m not a “noob” at World Rank 130 and a bit under 7000 ap. It sounds like you are liking being OP and scared it’ll change.
As to zergs. I refer to those players as “zerg dolls” when I use printable language and have little to no respect for the “train” play style.
130 WR means nothing, I know people rank 600+ that can’t kill nothing in 1vs1 lol, 7k ap only tells me you like pve achievements but dosn’t mean you are skilled.
Mesmer are strong in 1vs1 / 2vs2. It depends on your build. Copy a good mesmers build and copy his playstyle and you’re good to go.

Yet I keep hearing people saying to people frustrated by playing a class the way they want to play it that the solution to their problem is to copy the approved powerful build for their profession rather than playing the way they want to play. I’m not naive enough to believe that every build will or should work well, but there are plenty of styles of play that should make sense but don’t work because the traits and skills for other builds are just so much more powerful.
My other problem with this philosophy is that it produces cookie-cutter opponents. It doesn’t seem to make much of a difference who is playing most of the characters that I fight in WvW because most of the characters in a particular class all fight in exactly the same way using pretty much the same builds which gets pretty boring in my opinion.
Yet more than a year after nothing changed, there are still better builds/classes for every game mode, Colin might want it to change but that doesn’t mean it will ever change.
You canno’t build a berserker thief and pretend to be in the front line of a 60 man zerg clashing another 60 man zerg and survive like a PVT guardian would do, thats just ridicolus.
No dev responses stating they play mesmers in a frequent/constant capacity…

Devs do play mesmer, goo look at theyr twich page and you will see many streams with some devs playing mesmer.
If mesmers are loosing 1vs1 its a l2p problem, I do just fine with mine and rarely loose when roaming or dueling in OS.
In zerg fight a berserk/pvt spec is good enough, just play it smart and use your stealths… it’s sure better than ranger or thief lol.

Just few numbers in WvW with cleric set ( to party members) :
Water arrow : 1335hp
Cleansing wawe : 3940hp
Attunement switch water : Healing ripple 3940hp + shooting mist 215hp/s +regen 451hp/s + sigil of renewal 700hp = 5.3k hp istant + the restant regen

I ask because perhaps if they gave it a go they would realise how messed up this class actually is at the moment.
Sure you are going to get a load of upscales complaining about mesmers being op because they can’t beat them but the reality is… if you are losing to a mesmer then either the mesmer player is very skilled or you are just a poor player.

To me this look more helpfull in pvp, +500 healing power on a cleric build is a lot, a normal regen would tick for 440 hp/s with 2500 healing power.. quite powerfull.
Seems cool, hope the price to unlock the traits isn’t much, more than 10s at trait would be too much.

Oh great, someone finally got their head out of the gutters and realize Rangers are a decent skirmish class.
Too bad that doesn’t redeem the fact that we lack group utility, viable power options, and have the most handicapped profession mechanic in large encounters.

Ranger is a great skirmisher/bunker in pvp, but thats it, in WvW in the open field there are better/easier classes for roaming, like thief/mesmer/engi.
In big fights ranger provide nothing more than other classes can do better:
Might : Guardian and Ele (ranger is good only with non zerg weapons)
Swiftness : Guardian and Ele
Stability : Guardian and Ele
Retaliation : Guardian and Mesmer
Water fields : Ele (ranger has a good water field but its on a 30 sec cooldown)
Portals : Mesmer
CC : Warrior and Guardian
AoE : Necro and Ele (ranger has only barrage on 24s if traited)
the only good thing ranger has is the immobilize.
Then there’s the ability to deal damage and stay alive, ranger deals very low damage compared to warrior/guardian/necro, it’s way squishier than warrior/guardian/necro.
Almost forgot, ranger can be used as stomping/ressing machine
3) Anet will have more gem purchases from people buying extra character slots

What I find Super Super Super funny is that after I started this post about a Ranger who was beating person after person 1v1 and winning almost ever 1v2 he was in, people still write their posts like it is an impossibility.
This is how it works.
I spent over an hour watching this lady or fellow WIN against my server and the other enemy server. I know some of the people he beat and they are highly considered good wvw’ers.So if I have to examine what I witnessed against known good wvw’ers and what an unknown writes on a forum. I think I will go with what I have seen as true.
And that is…… the ranger class can be built to dominate fights.
Man, I personally won a lot of fights 1vsX with my ranger, my best fight was 1vs3 and still won stomping them all.
The thing most people here are tring to say is that he probably beat unskilled people and he was a good ranger, a bunker regen ranger in melee ( lost of evades, leaps, crazy regen, good damage with condis )will probably destroy most people 1vsX while roaming just because most people are noobs/with zerg builds.
Try it out in OS against thiefs/condi burst necros/ PU mesmers /hambow warriors and you will see that you need twice as much skill to beat them.

mesmer, thief and engi are better roamers, guardian and warrior are better in zerging, ele/necro are better at support.

Yeah they are. And one promotes brainless zerging while the other you have to think a little bit when you’re fighting. Basically get some fresh air in sPvP, then come back to WvW and see how that thief fairs then.
Fighting a thief in sPvP is way easier than WvW, and it’s not hard to be good in sPvP lol… also there are as many bad players as WvW.
In WvW theres the problem with runes/food/equipe which can create a lot of cheesy builds.
In sPvP a perma stealth thief cannot help its party, in WvW a perma stealth thief can engage and disengage at will, a good thief will always survive a fight.
Try out OS 1vs1 with a class which is not thief and fight a good thief with cheesy build, the outcome will be :
1. No one wins and after 10 mins you are both bored.
2. He kills you after N attempts.
Devs are truly unwilling to deal with the problem that is stealth in pvp.
If you are trying to stay “stealthed”, you should say, have, 50% movement speed decrease, no health regen, some penalties for it. It is FAR too op in a game that depends on quickly locating a target.
Stealth is actually a mechanic, not a problem.
A problematic mechanic.
The stat boosts while in Tornado form are intended. What’s unintended, is that it’s the only viable use of Tornado.
I find tornado pretty good in zerg fight it grants stability + double vit + kbs + whirl finisher + triple power + double precision, everything in a pretty short cd.
Is not the best elite in the world but it does its job in certain situations…
For example, my Mesmer’s only run skill is her focus #4 skill, and even then I fail to keep up with zergs in WvW and EOTM many times, often missing out on captures, badges and loot. Sure, I could buy 6 superior runes of speed for the 25% increase in movement, but why should I have to? I shouldn’t have to sacrifice my other runes just to keep up – especially when it seems most other classes get this passive 25% movement skill for free.
Furthermore, I would have to fork out 12 gold just to keep up with the zerg. That’s 12 gold that other classes don’t have to pay – it almost seems like GW2 WANT the Mesmer to be as slow as a turtle. This isn’t asking for some uber-ultra-overpowered elite skill or something, this is simply asking for a passive run signet for ALL professions so that we can all keep up.
Who in his right mind equipe the utility +25% speed for zerging ? or trought traits ?
I’m not sure in which server you play, but in every zerg I play I always have perma swiftness (1m +).
Tips :
- Ask for party, guardians/ele and sometimes warriors will provide you with perma swiftness(+33% speed)
- Stay beside commander/guardians/eles
- Don’t be one of those with slow reaction time, when the leader move you should move with him and not wait for the swiftness fairy
- Don’t stand on sentrys/go after solo enemys if the commander is not doing so
Dolyaks are a nice mechanic, cute and fluffy… why would you get rid of them ?
1) Increase supply capacity
2) Give them few defensive skills like aegis/swiftness/blind/weakness
3) Make them bite ! and kick !
Try playing shatter Mesmer and say that again. You really have to time the burst, but if you land it you pretty much win the fight.
Thief easy mode? Yes I have access to stealth, but if I mess up once I’m dead due to my low health and armor. And yeah, don’t run d/p, I find it inferior to d/d ;p
I do play shatter mesmer and yes while its hard to manage the burst its also quite powerfull and can kill light/medium armor in few seconds, but you can agree with me that a PU mesmer with perplexity is easy god mode.
Thief as a lot of cheesy builds, every time I go to obsidian sanctum I see most people running thief with cheesy build, like a guy running d/p + sb with bowl of orrian truffle… stealth spam/dodge spam/teleport, he kept stealthing/running away when low healt just to come back over and over again till I made a mistake… he made quite a lot of mistakes but that didn’t kept him from stealth/teleport away.
Since my thief is built for dueling and sustained fights I rarely run away from anyone. But the one I’ll always charge is Ranger. Their pet is so easy to hit with Cloak and Dagger that it’s almost a free kill… Fighting a good ranger can be a pain, but I find good rangers almost as rare as good thieves. Might be because the profession need some love, but I usually walk away victorious after fighting one ;p
I take it that you created this thread to find a main to use in WvW? If so then you should think about wether you want to zerg, do small skirmishes with organized groups or roam solo. Those factors are important as some professions are better for certain roles.

As you stated the main builds in OS are :
1. D/P Thiefs and other variants
2. Pu Mesmers
3. Nuke necros
4 .Condi warriors
I usually thend to change some utilities/triats before duelling, here are some builds :
Build against thiefs or any class who uses burst damage
Against condition based builds
Those are not perfect builds, I think there are better ones, but I can have fun in os with them… I would love an armor with stats Vit/Condi/Healing to have more chances to beat necros/ perplexity engi/mes/thiefs
Anyway it’s all about managing your evades/combo/pets, if you do it right you have a good chance of winning against almost every build ( there are some cheesy build i cannot manage do beat )
The thing cool about bringing my ranger in OS is that everybody wants to fight me, like a bunny in a field full of foxes ( doesnt happen with my mesmer XD )

with the wvw account bounded, lets say i’am lvl 200 but
- I have 200 to use PER character, so if i have 5 character, for all 5 i’am going to be able to use 200 points ?
- Or i have 200 point in total to use across my 5 characters ? so i can only do like 40 points per characters ?
My main wvw char is level 685; wxp across all other chars equates to 123. These totals will be combined raising my level to 808 across all chars. This is my understanding of how the system will work.
Nope, Immagine it like a pool, all the wxp you made on your chars will be merged togheter, but don’t forget that the first 5 ranks are easier than the rest.
practically you will be between rank 770/790

Apparently alot of unskilled players are playing thief as well because players are starting to realize that Stealth > baddies.
also good player with spammable stealth vs good player without stealth always wins the one with stealth.
Made a mistake ? no problem, go stealth and try again untill you get it right.
Only skilled players play thief because is the most difficult and underpowered class… yes yes XD
sPvP and WvW roaming are very different, the one is completly imbalanced, leaves no room to react to your opponents build (rock, scissors, paper), is a condition spamfast and revolves around keeping your enemies out of a circular area. The other one is WvW.
Both are imbalanced, but I think WvW is even more imbalanced than sPvP, and both are condition spam fest exept for few burst damage build.
