Hey everyone

We started seeing this yesterday, some people were fixed with the hotfix but not everyone. We are currently investigating the issue and trying to isolate what makes some accounts different from others. A bug has been opened and I"m linking this thread in there, so if people could post their OS and which client they are using and any other information you think might help we’d appreciate it!

A message from the PvP Team:

Leaderboard decay for the Guild Challenger League will be enabled beginning today. Leaderboard decay will help ensure that only active teams remain at the top of the leaderboard. Guild Teams will begin to lose rating if they go longer than seven days without playing a conquest match in Ranked Arena. After seven days have passed the team will begin losing rating at a set interval each day. The rating lost from decay is permanent. If the guild team plays one game of conquest in ranked arena the decay timer will reset.

There are a lot of comments and input about the Winter’s Presence rare collection achievement.

This thread has been created so that you can share your questions, concerns, and feedback. I’ll apologize in advance if the comments in the four or five merged threads that form the basis of this thread lose some level of cohesiveness. However, with one thread, the designers have a much easier way of reading your thoughts, and I think that outweighs any possible misordering of comments.

  • Echo of Memory: Block duration has been reduced from 2.25 seconds to 1.5 seconds.
  • Deja Vu: Block duration has been reduced from 2.25 seconds to 1.5 seconds.
  • Well of Precognition: This ability now applies distortion instead of blur and prevents capture-point contribution. Casting time has been increased from 0.25 seconds to 0.75 seconds, and aftercast delay has been reduced from 0.5 seconds to 0 seconds.

Revenant:

  • Demonic Defiance: This trait’s functionality now has a 5-second internal cooldown.
  • Radiant Revival: This trait’s functionality has been altered to provide Infused Light for the revenant instead of the downed target. This trait now grants the revenant 10% bonus revival speed.
  • Coalescence of Ruin: This ability will no longer hit more than the maximum number of targets (5). The cascade will additionally cease its progression if it hits the maximum number of targets.

General:

  • Runes of Durability: Fixed a bug that granted this rune set higher boon duration than indicated.
  • Spending resonance to finish assembling a guild consumable early now functions correctly.

An Update from our Balance Team:

As developers, we try to push certain aspects of gameplay that align with our vision for the game, but unfortunately things don’t always pan out the way that we hoped they would. A current example of this is the bunker meta that has formed in PvP over the past two weeks across all tiers of play, from Amber Division all the way up to our Pro Leagues. We’ll be honest: we’re not happy with the current meta, and it certainly doesn’t do a great job of showcasing the things that make Guild Wars 2 great, namely our action-based combat.

While our post-HoT balance strategy is to deliver a major balance update every quarter, we do want to emphasize that if glaring issues arise during seasons we won’t hesitate to address them. To this point, on Monday we announced that we’d be making a few mid-season balance changes. After lengthy internal conversation driven both by discussion on our own forums and on other platforms, we have decided to implement one more additional balance change with this week’s update.

Mesmer:

  • Well of Precognition: This ability now applies distortion instead of blur and prevents capture-point contribution. Casting time has been increased from 0.25 seconds to 0.75 seconds, and aftercast delay has been reduced from 0.5 seconds to 0 seconds.

A fair number of gameplay implications can arise from such a seemingly small change, so we want to be very clear with all of you regarding our intentions. First and foremost, we understand that this change may have impact on other areas of the game, and that is precisely why we’re viewing today’s change as a short-term solution. We’ll be revisiting all skills in our end-of-January balance update, and we’ll be sharing the specifics of the planned changes with you in early January. In the interim, because this skill will be classified as "no-cap”—meaning that it does not contribute to capture point progress—we’d suggest that you keep an eye out for mesmers using this skill in PvP matches, as they could potentially cause you to decap a point in a way similar to the stealth function. The change to this skill will now also prevent you from interacting with certain channels objectives, such as supply piles in Stronghold or the Meditation buffs in Temple of the Silent Storm.

This change will be included our in hotfix later today.

Hey all. Just wanted pop in give some insight on this change. First off, sorry for the undocumented change. It is always our goal to get everything in the release notes, in spite of what the last few updates may have led you to believe
Now, this reduction in refinement is one of a few different options we were looking at to bring the cost of wood back in line, but it wasn’t actually intended to ship yet. Since it is out there now, enjoy! But we will be keeping an eye on the economy of this and other common materials. If in the future things crash or explode (that’s economy talk for “crash” or “explode”) the refinement recipes are one area we can adjust to keep things stable.

Wintersday 2015
Come join us in celebrating Wintersday! Earn karma by participating in the following activities: save Wintersday for the orphans spread around Divinity’s Reach by giving them wrapped gifts; test your skills against other players in Snowball Mayhem; experience the joy of jumping in Winter Wonderland; defend against waves of toys in Toypocolypse; or help keep Tixx’s airship, the Infinirarium, in order!   • Parts of Divinity’s Reach and the Heart of the Mists have been decorated.

Fractals
Fractals of the Mist rewards have been adjusted. For context, please see https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Upcoming-Fractal-Changes.

  • From fractal scale 1 to 50, the toughness attribute of creatures will scale up with the fractal scale. Beyond fractal scale 50, the toughness stat of creatures will no longer increase with the scale of the fractal.
  • Chests awarded from Fractal Daily Achievements have had their chances to drop containers of ascended gear increased, with major improvements at higher tiers of difficulty.
  • Chests that spawn from completing Fractal Dungeons also reward experience based on their difficulty. This experience can train Central Tyrian masteries.
  • The average gold value of opening Cracked Fractal Encryptions has increased.
    • This increase came from changes to the Lost Homework sellable items dropped from these containers.
  • With the changes to scaling past level 50, higher tiers of fractals should be faster to complete, increasing their average reward per time played in each fractal.
  • Stabilizing Matrices can now be traded for Fractal Encryption Keys on a 1:1 basis.
  • Some Daily Fractal Achievements now drop an increased number of Fractal Encryption Keys.
  • Purchasing Fractal Encryption Keys works a bit differently now.
    • The first 30 keys a player purchases per day will be available at a cost of 20 silver and a Fractal Relic per key.
    • The next 30 keys can be purchased at a cost of 25 silver and a Fractal Relic per key.
    • After these 60 discounted keys have been purchased, players can buy an unlimited amount of keys at a cost of 30 silver and a Fractal Relic per key.
  • The achievements for completing sets of 3 fractals have also had their names updated to match the chests awarded.
  • Fixed a bug in the Underground Facility fractal that resulted the Rampaging Ice Elemental having the unshakable effect applied.

BALANCE, BUG-FIXING, POLISH
World Polish

  • Auric Basin
    • Fixed a bug with voiced line timing in the “Guard Scholar Keenwit as he translates druid markings” event.
    • Scholar Keenwit will now properly say the druid ritual lines at the start of the “Destroy the vinewraths and their Mordrem infestation so Scholar Keenwit can complete the druid ritual” event.
    • Fixed a bug in which an event would stall in New Skrittington when Dawkkurra’s event wouldn’t finish setting up correctly.
    • Fixed a bug that could cause an event in Arrowhead Vale to stall.
  • Iron Marches
    • Improved the reliability of the “Devouring the Brand” meta-event and other related events.
  • Tangled Depths
    • Fixed an issue that was causing the chak gerents to scale too aggressively when players joined their lanes.
    • Fixed a bug that occasionally prevented the Rata Novus golems from engaging the chak gerent in combat.
    • Fixed a bug that would cause the Scrap Rifle Field Test adventure to end if you were imprisoned in goop.
    • Fixed kill participation credit in a number of events in Tangled Depths.
    • Turning in ley energy now gives participation credit for the “Power [East/West] Sentry L.O.X. with energy from the ley-line energy collectors” and “Repel the invading chak. Power up the golem for added firepower!” events in Rata Novus.
    • Fixed a bug that prevented players from getting the Lane Defender achievements available during the King of the Jungle meta-event.

General

  • Fixed a bug with the “Escort Rustbucket to the repair station” event in Dry Top which was causing some of the German VO to be cut off.
  • Fixed a bug that caused players to receive the Leader of the Pact effect from party members before they had accepted their party invitation.
  • Players affected by multiple sources of Leader of the Pact will now only show the most powerful version affecting them in their effect display.
  • Fixed a bug in which effects applied by player-controlled minions were not correctly prioritizing players over other minions.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause vendors who were selling goods with an item cost to not update their count of the player’s available items correctly.
  • Scribing costs for WvW claiming and guild siege equipment have been adjusted to be less expensive.
  • Fixed a bug in which knockback distance could be reduced by a change in the target’s movement speed.
  • Party members will now display WvW rank instead of Mastery points when in WvW.
  • Fixed a bug in which inviting a squad from within the Guild Teams panel would only invite one person from the squad.
  • Guild Storage has been updated to now show helpful tooltips.
  • Changed guild hall decoration placement to be more permissive.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented players from joining parties.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented players from joining parties.

Personal Story

  • Updated the required level messaging for “Against the Corruption,” “Cathedral of Silence,” “Romke’s Final Voyage,” and “Source of Orr” from 70 to 80.
  • Updated “Against the Corruption,” “Cathedral of Silence,” and “Romke’s Final Voyage” to give out level-appropriate rewards.

Items

  • Fixed a bug that prevented older versions of some Infused rings from being Attuned in the Mystic Forge. These rings can now correctly be upgraded to Attuned Infused Rings.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented Indigo Mushrooms from dropping for players working on the Minstrel.
  • Friend of the Owl Spirit can now be earned be completing the event “Protect the owl spirits from Jormag’s minions” again after collecting Friend of the Owls.
  • The engineer’s Grenade Barrage will once again use legendry weapon effects.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented Bags of Mortar from being sold by the scribe vendors in guild halls.

Engineer

  • Tool Kit—Magnet: Fixed a bug that was causing this skill to fail when first pulling an enemy into combat.

Necromancer

  • Signets of Suffering: Fixed an issue that caused this trait to convert boons at infinite range when used with Signet of Vampirism.

Revenant

  • Coalescence of Ruin: Updated visual effects to accurately match the combat range.
  • Renewing Wave: Fixed an issue that caused this ability to remove conditions around an enemy’s position rather than the revenant’s.
  • Embrace the Darkness: Fixed a bug that allowed this ability to be active while not in legendary demon stance.
  • Equilibrium: This trait now has a 10-second internal cooldown and will trigger only when in combat.

Structured PvP

  • Fixed a bug in which party members of a disconnected player would receive a defeat even after winning the match.
  • Fixed a bug in which the Vial of Salt had exotic attributes instead of the intended ascended attributes.
  • Fixed a bug in which Mini Turai Ossa was using the incorrect model.
  • Changed “Bye” results in the game history to read as “Victory” instead.
  • Changed “Forfeit” results in the game history to read as “Defeat” instead.
  • Fixed a bug in which the Mystic Forge Conduit and Mystic Forge Node items were unusable in the PvP lobby.

New Items and Promotions

  • A new set of Timekeeper weapon skins is available from Black Lion Weapons Specialists for 1 ticket for a limited time.
  • New winter Mist Champion skins are available as rare drops in Black Lion Chests.
  • A new Mini Snow Flurry Dragon is available in the Toys category for 500 gems.
  • A new Winter Solstice Outfit is available in the Style category for 700 gems.
  • Three new hair styles for every race and gender are available in Total Makeover Kits and Hair Style Kits in the Services category of the Gem Store.
  • A new Winter Solstice Appearance Package is available in the Style category for 2,000 gems and includes the outfit, a Mini Snow Flurry Dragon, a choice of Immortal weapon, 5 Glint’s Winter Dye Kits, and a Total Makeover Kit.

Bug Fixes

Just wanted to call out that we turned on some new endpoints today (and some new endpoints last week) to start exposing guild stuff.

Note that authenticated guild endpoints are only available to API keys from guild leaders, for now.

Anyway, new endpoints (mostly documented on github because forum formatting is really hard):

Pretty straightforward.

Working on unbitrotting the rest of the guild endpoints for dumping the event log (which contains info to track treasury donations) and stash contents, as well as adding stuff to track the current treasury status.

/v2/items returning Mastery Points

/v2/items is currently returning Mastery Points as consumables. While this may be intended, their names being prepended with a space may not.
Note: The space is always there, no matter the language.

So, mastery points are “Immediate” items which mean they’re consumed right before they’re inserted into your inventory. It’s kind of a weird system, but I hesitate to remove all Immediates from the API because they’ll likely be referenced by other endpoints (e.g., some of them are required by achievements).

Some item names have some context-sensitive parameters that go into them, e.g. the name is probably “{MasteryPointName} Mastery Point”. Since the API is (currently) just enumerating items, it doesn’t have the context to fill in those parameters (e.g., it would need the mastery point reference which points to that particular item; there’s no back-reference) so it just trims it out, which leaves the leading space.

It’s something that should probably be fixed in the long run, but there’s still quite a bit of lower-hanging fruit left :/

Also it looks like ids 6 and 46748 have been whitelisted prematurely since their names are currently like “((1234))”. (1234 being the string id?)

id 6, at least, predates the whitelist system. When we added the whitelist system, we talked internally about removing all of the broken-looking items from the API but the general feeling was that they were already indexed by third-party applications and we didn’t want to risk breaking anything.

46748 was probably a misclick >_>.

So… that data’s coming out of content, and in this particular case it looks like content has buggy data. I’ll poke someone that’s familiar with that content and have them take a look. Thanks for the heads up.

This will be changed for an upcoming update so that disconnecting will not cause a desertion for party members if they win. The player who abandoned the match will still get a desertion.

A message from the Balance Team:

As mentioned in our “Road Ahead for 2015” blog, our strategy for adjusting the meta-game in Guild Wars 2 after the release of Heart of Thorns focuses on releasing balance updates on a set cycle – each and every quarter. We began this cadence with the release of HoT in October which undoubtedly changed the way that the game is played across all game modes. In the weeks following the launch of HoT we made a number of tweaks to elite specializations as we began to notice trends that did not align with our design goals.

Today we stand about a month and a half since Heart of Thorns was released, and once again we feel it is necessary to make some adjustments for the overall health of the game. This week we will be making a few changes to address some emergent gameplay that has cropped up across multiple game modes:

General

  • Runes of Durability: Fixed a bug that granted this rune set more boon duration than indicated.
  • Temple of the Silent Storm: Players will no longer be able to interact with Meditations while under the effect of Blur.

Mesmer

  • Echo of Memory: Block duration reduced from 2.25 to 1.5

As a note, not all of the changes listed above will be in the first build on December 15, but instead in a hotfix that will happen shortly afterwards.

Balance itself is an iterative process and our work will be ongoing. We’re taking a hard look at the ways players are experiencing content across the game (raids, fractals, open world, PvP, and WvW) and we’ll be making adjustments accordingly.

Our next major balance update will be released at the end of January, and after the new year we plan on sharing the high-level details of those changes, giving you an opportunity to provide feedback to our design team.

The only thing that Colin said would be is Season 1. Which is not the same as the Personal Story. And even that is just the stated hope for.

Which honestly there is no reason not to.

He said both at different times.

Can you find a quote where he said that? To the best of my knowledge we’ve never had plans to make the Personal Story in the core game repeatable on a single character. The design was, as I understood it, to encourage replay of PS on alt characters.

why the new Holiday themed Snowflake Glider cannot be gifted?!
My best friends account had been suspended for buying their own Gem’s from the Trading Post. So instead of her risking another account suspension I figured I would simply gift them to her since I had a spare 800 Gems on my account.

Seriously not joking, their accounts were suspended for 72 hours for using the Trading Post to buy Gem too much. Can’t believe this is a thing but it is and now they rarely spend money for Gems anymore lol.

Hey Just: Did your friend submit a ticket about that suspension? It sounds really odd to me. However, I know that there are certain protections in place to protect us (and victims of identity theft) from the abuse of stolen credit cards. For example, if someone was “hacked” and his/her card numbers became known by a scammer, that person could purchase 100 upgrades and distribute them across 100 accounts before the credit card was officially flagged as stolen. So some delays are there to protect the card holder (and us) from invalid/bogus transactions.

But a legitimate buyer is always welcome to submit a ticket to ask for assistance and it’s usually given very promptly. We greatly appreciate the support that the player is wanting to give us, and we want that person to be able to get what he/she desires!

isn`t that why you can explore the whole thing freely after beating it?
on that note, can`t someone who has beaten it, other who hasn`t and thus allows them to get the hidden story snippets?
The things, we get after the whole fighting.

A player who has beaten the raid can bring along a player who hasn’t and they can explore the map together without worrying about fighting the bosses or other enemies. It’s actually a really good way to find all the notes, since you can take it at your own pace.

Related to this thread: WoodenPotatoes also posted a lore analysis video, so if you’re not worried about potential spoilers you may want to check it out.

Also, the wiki folks have been busy documenting all the dialog and achievements if people would rather read about it.

Bear in mind it’s a work in progress (a bunch of the dialog variants aren’t listed…because there are a lot of them that could play depending on who triggers something to happen and what race they are, etc.) but there’s a lot of great info there to dig into.

Not really, no. Due to technical constraints, the data received by the web API can be up to 5 minutes stale (e.g., it’s reading player data from the database rather than the map server which only writes back periodically, not in realtime). Eventually I’d like to have a system whereby you could get this data directly from the client (and we have some data available locally), but that’s a long ways out. Sorry :<

Hello i can’t complete my personal story mission Victory or death.
When I go to the airship npc don’t move so i must alone defeat this giants and when helicopter arive they don’t go with me so i can’t defeat this boss he one shoted me
How can i complete this mission ? please help me

The NPCs don’t leave the cabin, but they will defend you if any enemies follow you inside. They also won’t leave the airship to help you fight the enemies on the ground. This is all part of the design so it’s not a bug.

If you need help, I recommend forming a party. The last story step is soloable, but it can be difficult for some players. To put it into perspective, I brought some friends (and a few strangers) along with me during this story step because I found some of the encounters a bit too hard to solo. But I know others who breezed through it on their own.

Sabetha’s AI doesn’t include any toughness behaviours. Her Flak Shot should simply be looking for the furthest target as stated. If this is not the case, it sound like a bug may have been introduced unintentionally. I’m sending this over to QA to get some repro on this (if you guys had videos that would also be helpful).

I had copy/pasted Mystic’s list and replaced the ones I could find. Went a little too fast. Didn’t see the second ID either.

Edit: with all those immediate versions, I now have to correct most of those XD

I actually wasn’t following the conversation closely enough, it’s probably better to ignore that there are currency “items” and just use the currency ids.

EDIT: Looks like the former got converted to the latter, which is an “Immediate” type which means it gets consumed when you load into a map to grant you currency.

I’m currently trying to go through the achievement api and convert into achievement recipes… but it seems the reward for completing the achievements isn’t in that api. do I have to do that part by hand?

I think so, at least I didnt find any achievement rewards.

I made a pull request. There’s backend support for it, it just isn’t currently exposed. Presuming that looks fine I can probably have the endpoint amended by the end of the week.

While I am looking into this, I did have a few questions for you, if you don’t mind?

Have all your possible guild invitees accepted their invites? For example, if you have 39 members who have accepted their guild invites, and an additional 11 “invited” (pending), the npc will not grant the license. She will want at least 40 members in your guild.

The other question is: are you representing the guild you want to get the license for when you talk to the npc? I noticed in your screenshot that you seem to belong to more than one guild and wanted to double check.

Just an advisory that, due to a minor internal miscommunication, /v2/worlds might temporarily stop returning the “population” field correctly sometime this week. Going to try to make fixing this as un-bumpy as possible, but be advised it might switch over to returning “population”: “null” until the next patch.

Was this your first kill (or anyone’s first kill) of Sabetha?

Wow, really?! just remove stealth from the game then. Whats the point of stealth if you can’t use it….

Minions being able to be stealthed is intended. Minions that never come out of stealth even if stealth wears off is not intended.

We have temporarily disabled the Stronghold map “Battle of Champion’s Dusk” due to an unintended interaction between stealth and minions such as doorbreakers. We will provide an update on the situation next week.
