Dear Devs, as you can see lag spike /ping spike threads are a constant concern brought up over and over and over in this sub forum. There are a few helpful players that direct the player base down the right direction by explaining how the internet works, how Speedtest tells you almost nothing about your connection to gw2, or how other online games performance has little to do with your connection to severs in Texas. Then having players run tests to determine where the issue lies to try to solve their problem.
I used to do this quite frequently before being burnt out on the subject. I had suggested before about creating a sticky thread about basic internet concepts like how your connection to YouTube can be great while your connection to servers in Texas can be terrible, which results in lag. I am again suggesting such a sticky. Perhaps instructions on interpretation of ping plotter or tracery tests would also be helpful.
Anyway I don’t have as much time as I used to, to assist the community in this way. But I wish them all the best of luck in finding the answers to their lag problems. Hopefully Gator keeps at it. Good luck.
OP your ISP’s likely use the same nose farther down your connection. Your connection is like the highway taking different routes, then merging later, then maybe breaking off to different routes again before getting to servers in Texas. Likely it is Telianet in Texas giving you the issue. You can run ping plotter to see how your connection runs. You want to look where packet loss STARTS to determine which node has the issue. Packet loss will trickle down into Anet servers after it starts, but that does not mean it’s anet servers.
So the only solution for that is make a call to ISP hoping that he can do something about low quality nodes that we’re trying to connect to ncsoft servers? Maybe VPN stuff can help here?
Yes but you actually have Latency and packet loss from your modem. It’s relatively minor but that still in issue that you should be able to roll out with your ISP
I just experienced this twice: PVE Story mode – “Light in the Darkness” mission. I get to one of the last talks with the Pale Tree (just before the final fight) and -BOTH time, at the exact same spot – I get disconnected from my wifi.
Like others, I thought that it was just my wifi (which usually is pretty stable). However, for it to happen twice in the exact same spot in the mission story (and then finding this forum with everyone complaining), I suspect that it’s the game.
Lots of replies on the issue, but are any actually listing the resolution? Any word from Arenanet?
Now the ArenaNet representative is telling to use a VPN – and in the same sentence telling me doing so may result in a “false flag” ban from the game.
I have no idea how VPNs works – and am skeptical of any “solution” that costs me a monthly fee (and might result in an account ban).

Your ISP is wrong. They do have some control over the route your internet takes to Anet servers in Texas. If you played any other games in Texas you would have the same exact issue. Your ISP uses that node owner when going to Texas just like mine used mostly Comcast nodes. Anet has no control over how you get connected to their servers except for the last hop. Your ISP is very unlikely to change their route which is why Anet is telling you to use a VPN which will change your route.

Sometimes these providers are terrible such as level 3 and telia.net. Your ISP will say it is not on their end, but they have a contract with those providers when your internet takes a certain route across the nation. In this case it goes to Texas and is hitting a terrible provider. Your ISP will claim ignorance but they do have some power over the issue although it is very unlikely they will change anything.
I understand what you’re saying (even if I live in europe, but probably providers works the same ways). I still wonder why i can play at any other games without problems, and why i’ve played for 2 years without problems and the first 2 days after i bought HoT i’ve played without any problems. Also after 1:AM everything works fine in game.
Well your route goes to a town in Germany. Idk the name of the city or town but if you played another mmo that had servers in the same city, you would have the same problems that you experience with gw2. Actually I have the same problem at times when Comcast takes me through a certain node, during prime time I have lag problems, then after 10 or 11 PM the lag goes away. Fortunately it only takes me on that route 1 to 2 times a week and I’m honestly not sure why it changes.

hi thx for your answer, but as i said, there are 2 different problems. My connection issues (they are always there but never ever caused pinkspikes before july 2016), so i lag because of packet lost already before anet servers (i always do since gw2 release, more or less, i know this). But i never had pingspikes like this before july 2016 and also the pingplotter never looks like this when i dont have pinkspikes. So there are 2 problems: one packet-lost problem from my connection and the pingspikes from something else.
That my connection is bad makes it easy to say that everything is caused by my connection but im sure the pingspikes are not or at least not only from my provider. I lag since gw2 release, but never had pingspikes before. Also im not the only player having this pingspike problem and im sure at least some of them have different provider and routing than me…
It’s just your provider / hops getting worse. Everyone on the map would have to have a huge ping spike for it to be the server. Usually there’s lots of comment about it in map chat and a follow up from Anet. One person not having an issue means it’s not the server. Since it’s not possible for one person to have no issues on the same server if it is actually the server being the problem.
Kinda surprised there are not more ‘OMG my precursor!’ replies. As that’d really be something if someone finally got a pre drop and then rollback, lol.
Well, I couldn’t login on the forums after the server crashed, but yeah, I most probably lost a precursor as I definetely looted it after the patch. Anyway, it wasn’t anything I needed, but yeah, let’s say I lost a lot of gold. That and almost two hours worth of crafting mats farming… but hey, I’m probably not alone in that situation!
I’m kittened, I’m not gonna say otherwise, but there is nothing we can do, really.
Actually you can fill out a support ticket. It’s likely they will replace it as I’m sure they kept the logs
They did shut them down once before tho it was well announced and lasted an hour or two. The restart time for servers was also announced. That was much different tho than the current shut down as that was scheduled.

there are plenty of things based on severity. Someone that has a bad day once and awhile is not depressed. You need to meet certain criteria for depression and one bad day a month does not meet that. same here, all day having lagspikes (some times over 2k ping), I reside at Greece. I attach a pingplotter screenshot (I read about it here) in case someone knows what this means. My internet speed is at 17mbs and have downloaded numerous files (not while playing) without losing connection. I contact my ISP, told me my line is clear. Game is unplayable (PVP wise)
You are getting some packet loss from you ISP. You are getting a lot of packet loss from hop 5. You can google that IP address at hop 5 to see who owns it. Unfortunately it is hard to tell how much packet loss you are getting farther down since it has a snow ball effect on the way down. So packet loss near the end is not accurate. You should contact your ISP about the second hop since you have packet loss there. And whatever hop 5 turns out to be, you could tell your ISP about that. Your ISP has a contract with that provider at hop 5 so that when your internet takes its route through that physical location, they use that specific provider at hop 5 and they are most likely having issues. Again it’s hard to say how much of an issue hop 5 is having when your ISP is having an issue.
This game is not p2w. You must first play a p2w game to understand this and have a perspective on the issue. That’s mostly the problem here if I had to guess.
By definition this is not a p2w game. If you want to try and rationalize a way to make it seem that way in your head, then go for it. Lots of people on the forums do just that. You will be confronted about your logic but at the end of the day we all know it’s very hard to change a person’s thinking on the Internet. However this does not change that gw2 is not a p2w game.
I’ve been playing since day 1 and at the end of my first year I had *3 saved up* – and I only had that many because I never used them for fear of wasting them on the wrong thing. (Which I was worried about precisely because they’re rare.) They’re actually easier to get now than they were in the past, because you don’t have to complete daily achievements for a random chance at them, and they come from achievement chests too which weren’t in the game originally.
Ok first of all, thats a load of BS. My brother played since beta. He had so many BLSK’s saved up from doing dailies and w/e that he had 6 bank tabs full of BL Salvage kits in the first year or so, so you cant tell me that you only received 3 of them in 1 yr. He had so many BLSK’s that he used them on rares often. Anet had to change the acquisition % cuz people were getting too many. They used to be much easier to get than they are now.
Also, the “USE” of a endless BLSK wouldn’t cost 3 G per use just because you are taking into account the gold per gem cost to buy 1. I dought anet would make it that expensive and if they did, no 1 would use it. I can see a usage cost of 50 Silver though to be fair. But to buy a Endless BLSK I assume it would cost around 1000-2000 Gems, which would be understandable. I wouldn’t mind buying 1 even if it meant spending 1000 gems or more. Thats how much the endless harvest tools cost.
I already had a endless-copper-fed-omatic before I started this OP. Which is where I got the idea. They have copper, silver, but no gold. I would assume if they did make a gold it would be either exotic or ascended endless. The ascended salvage tools cost 1 g per use so if they made an exotic tool it should cost around 50 s.
But then factor in that your replacing every other kit so should be like a full gemstor tools right?

Exactly. Here is the math another way. The silver fed o matic needs 350,000 uses to break even. So 350000/25 equals 14,000 kits. 14,000 kits x 300 gems is 4,200,000 gems. You can play with that gem number between gold and gems but that is what you are looking at for a total price to break even. That is a crazy number. This is because otherwise you will be looking at breaking he economy. I am sorry Op you are unable to see this.
I hope you understand how expensive one of these endless BL kits would be. You are looking at probably. 800 gems then 3-5 gold per use. The problem here is Anet would get flak from how expensive it was. You must see you are very much the minority here. That and they already have a way to obtain BL kits from the BL so it’s rather pointless.
You can’t complain you don’t have enough BL kits, refuse to buy them from the BL, then request a endless BL kits from the BL. There are endless kits from the BL for gems. If you don’t want to spend the gems then you can use gold to convert. I don’t understand why this logic is so hard to follow. This is a very solid argument.
I gave alt toons that I never use full ascended just because of this. I still have full two sets in chests and lots of shoulders and feet chests. I really like the cultural armor so I can’t swap it between toons of the same armor weight too. You could npc them but I have on to them on an alt toon. I wouldn’t recommend putting them in the bank if you can avoid it. It’s not like they are used at all on a regular basis.
The solution to your problem is: don’t waste BL kits, because what you have done is just that: wasting them. Just a few items should be salvaged with them because the rune/sigil is really expensive and you want a 100%. In other case you should use other kits like Mystic: 250 uses, 80%, really cheap. Use your gems to buy gold and the gold to make thousands of Mystic kits. BL kits are not designed to be your main salvaging kit, that’s why they are really expensive and that’s why veterans have a lot: because veterans don’t waste them and use them when it’s really needed.
You are actually trying to justify Anets actions by hurting yourself and other players with the reductionistic approach to a item that shouldn’t be so restricted and available when all people really want is convenience and enjoy the game.
Its easy for people like you" who can sit back from another perspective and not care about my perspective and chant or give advice. I didn’t waste my 1 and only BL salvage kit. In the 3 months Ive played, you would atleast think I would have gotten atleast 2-3 by now with the way some people claim they get so many. I used my BL salvage kit extracting runes and sigils as well but ONLY from exotic armor. I’m defending my actions from people who know nothing of the situation but claim they do, and scold me even tho I’m new.
I think the advice here is valid. No offense but there’s no way you went through a whole kit in three months using it only on expensive runes on exotics unless you are changing your gear constantly. I only use these kits on expensive runes and sigils from dropped items as I don’t Change builds dramatically where the runes need changed. There’s only about 8-10 expensive runes and sigils that warrant using a black lion salvage kit like strength, scholar, berserker, force etc. I would use the BL kits very sparingly on just those exotics with those runes attached. You can also just sell them on the TP and lose less gold than it would cost you to buy the BL kits with gold. I understand you thought you would get more kits but it is very RNG. My advice is to use the kits very sparingly until you get 2-3 kits. Then you can use them more frequently. Otherwise use them sparingly and I’m sure you won’t run out with only using them on rare and expensive runes attached to exotics.
Now if you were to tell me you have changed your builds frequently and were saving or moving runes/sigils then I could understand your dilemma.

But there’s no reason why a 2 second SS should override another source of longer SS. If you have 5 seconds of SS the skill giving you 2 seconds should not override that 5 seconds you already have.
PS War is pretty easy though it’s generally not hard to find. Rev is also pretty easy if you get the CC rotation down which you can easily practice, and figuring out when to CC during a raid boss is easily figured out if you watch a video or read a guide like dulfy. Rev and war also share the same armor weight for ascended which is nice. Dragon hunter is also good at damage and providing protection and very easy to master, just again making sure you know when to CC. And again heavy armor.
Condi necro is not that difficult but that armor is only good for necro and won’t translate to Mesmer or ele. Ele is also good but very squishy so the damage mechanics are less forgiving with this class when learning which could prove to be difficult. Theif is also a bit squishy but the rotation is easy, tho it offers little utility. Engi is very niche for VG boss. Ranger is always needed but I would steer away from that as well if you are new.
Basically heavy armor classes are relatively easy, in demands, and you can transfer armor between them. I would recommend one of them. I also agree with above post regarding Chrono. I would not play that starting out. I don’t play it and mine is fully geared with ascended but the rotation is demanding compared to most. So I don’t bother cause I’m lazy like that lol.
Similarly….. Last night I was playing in a large PvE event squad for something different. You can see the commander by a symbol when you are in their shard/sub squad (can’t remember which) but otherwise it’s very hard to find who te commander is in a 50 person squad when you are all on different shards and trying to join the same shard. This can be worked around by having the commander move to a new subs quad like 4 or something far down so they are easy to pick out. But would be nice to see that commander icon in the panel regardless of map share or subsquad.

No he wasn’t inferring that. Of course others could have this problem, and it’s brought up frequently enough, but when it’s several people we usually see a Dev response and they quickly fix it. This seems more individual if I had to guess.
Dear team, GW2 is the best and only game I play since release, and also I have bought the expansion that I really like. Since release the game worked really well, but since 9.8. after the patch update I have experiencing these problems:
1) Long waiting time period after logging in
2) Extreme loading to get in to the game
3) After that I am experiencing lagging and the textures are slowly loading. I have installed the latest drivers of my graphical card and also undergo the defragmentation of my HDD to ensure this problem is not on my side. Reinstall the game did not help. Please look into to this problem and release some hotfix in order to be this game playable for me once again. Thank you. Your loyal player and fan.
You need to run ping plotter or a tracert and post your results here. If the lag is truly on Anets end you will then have proof which you can submit a support ticket with.

Nope. You can submit a support ticket and they can look into it. Although there reallly aren’t cases where missing gold was on Anets end, it’s always been user error or someone bought or acquired gold illegally.
If you are in the EU there’s several threads now about telia being a issue with packet loss. You can also run ping plotter or a tracert and post your results here to determine where lag is coming from.
