These giant “esports” tournaments have been huge failures. You’re paying these people who are “esports” in a game nobody cares about hilarious sums of money and call the entire event marketing. Meanwhile interest in the game hasn’t increased. Viewership is virtually nonexistent even in comparison to the lesser esports titles. There is literally an iPad game that gets more viewers on Twitch if you’re comparing tournament numbers. Where is the actual marketing? Has the PvP scene actually grown since the first tournaments began? Anet might think so given the amount of PvE players that have flooded and corrupted the scene trying to get achievement points and titles that Anet added to inflate their numbers, but those of us who have been there know better.
So when Helseth says he’d rather have a disastrous esports scene over terrible ads like the taxi ad, first the esports scene is already disastrous and when a business venture fails so extraordinarily hard, the wise decision is to just let it die. And forgive me if I don’t particularly care for his opinion on that subject with him being paid thousands of dollars and all. Meanwhile the rest of us who want the game to be good and who have invested major time over the years into this game have been shafted again and again and again by the woefully incompetent dev team. It’s clear the issues of GW2 are caused by their lack of understanding on how to manage a game, their stubbornness and refusal to admit mistakes, the balance team inadequacies, and so much more. After 4 years of nothing, the obvious solution is to slash this “marketing” budget and use it to fund the salaries of people who actually know what they’re doing because this current team…
When they fix the game, then an esports community can grow and flourish. Until then, RIP.

Also there’s no trait to take in tier 1 explosives if you decide to run a bomb build without Grenade Kit! And if you do decide to run Grenade Kit, your survivability will tank without the Tool Kit + Elixir S combo which is basically mandatory now if you want to survive for more than 3 seconds because, again, power creep!

You know how there’s a runeset that extends the duration of every condition? Well there’s no rune like that for immobilize! Immobilize is a condition isn’kitten I think we should have a runeset that extends immobilize duration by 45% and a random chance when struck to apply immobilize for 1 second on a 10 second cooldown!

I don’t think money is the issue here as Anet is so keen to hand out tens of thousands of dollars to its extremely tiny competitive scene that is comprised of like 3 teams in the entire world (lol)! Motar2k is awesome but he’s no dummy and will never (and should never) drop money on this game!

Sorry but everything is Arenanet’s fault! Even if NCSoft was extremely stingy with financing or whatever, content direction has all been Arenanet! Dumb sigil/trait proc mechanics, bad leaderboards, bad and slow balance, immob stacking (probably the worst addition to the game yet), only one game mode, bad matchmaking, buggy mechanics like air immob and movement desyncs.. how can you blame any of these things on NCSoft when Arenanet has had 3 years to make something out of PvP and hasn’t addressed any of these issues since launch!
I used to be like you! I supported this game through all the poop and crud and Dhuumfires; through all the Skyhammers, desyncs, 6 month patches, and immob stacking! But when you’ve been playing this game for as long as I have… good luck trying to stay frandly!

Vee Wee isn’t Courtyard DM? Why Arenas?
Good question my frand! Deathmatch and arenas are two different game modes! DM is what you see in courtyard and the way it’s set up just boils down to spamming AoE and whoever dies first usually costs their team the victory in a vicious spawn camping snowball effect! Arenas, on the other hand, should be played on a much smaller map than courtyard with less people! 3v3 on a tiny map with objects that you can hide behind for line of sight purposes! When you die, you are out! No respawns!
The LoS objects shouldn’t be too big, otherwise you can just kite forever around it until your cooldowns come back up! That’s not fun either!
but the thing you always seem to not consider is that a majority of the people that play this game competively actually really like the mechanics of conquest.
Of course I considered it! Anyone who likes conquest can still play conquest! I’m for adding new content, not replacing existing content with something else as Anet is so keen on doing! But what about the people who don’t like conquest or who would rather play something else! Should they be forced into playing conquest! I suppose the answer is yes because of the 3 years 1 game mode clause that we unwittingly signed when purchasing this game and that saddens me!

What part of this build is not bunker?
Probably the part where it gets nuked by conditions, has issues standing on the point, no permanent vigor like the actual bunkers, no defensive boons, etcetc!

I want to play this game again and I was waiting on a frand to join my CEVO pug!
I never said to remove conquest for arenas! Some people like conquest! Some people will like stronghold! But some people like arenas, a game mode that is so easy to implement, create maps for, maintain, and will bring so many people to this game that it’s just not logical for them not to be in this game! But when it comes to esports, I think arenas is the top choice for game mode! You may say that WoW arena failed at esports but you can’t deny that it had way more popularity and success than its conquest battlegrounds! And while gaming organizations may not treat it as esport, the in game community sure does and they have regular tournaments with so many different teams and many monies to hand out! Chalk it up to the overwhelming popularity of WoW in comparison to GW2 if you want, but I don’t see WoW’s conquest counterpart getting anywhere near the amount of support/popularity/prize money/success as its arenas!
I fail to see how permanent stealth is an issue! World of Wartcraft Thieves/Assassins or whatever they were called had permanent stealth built into their character! They didn’t have to build for it or anything! There wasn’t an issue there! Sure there could be a bunch of trolls but there will be trolls in anything you do! Are there not AFKers, leavers, and other griefers in conquest? Report and move on!
I also fail to see how arena is low skill cap! I’d say arenas have a much higher skill cap than conquest because the entire point of the game mode is to outplay your opponent! “But Vee Wee, you have to know how to rotate in conquest!” Oh please! If looking at the minimap and spamming AoE on point is the definition of high skill cap…
And of course no one can deny the overwhelming popularity of MOBAs in esports! But I feel the situation can be summed up in a conversation I had with a frand of mine who quit this game (who, by the way, stated he would come back to play if there were arenas). So I was describing stronghold to him and basically said it’s a MOBA-esque game mode, to which he replied, “But isn’t GW2 an MMO?” Hah! Yes it is!
I never said Power Necros are op! I simply used the Necromancer as an example for insane procs! Sigils and procs should enhance a build, not be the primary method of everything! Some people say balance is ok because every class has a viable build! How many of these viable builds would continue to be so without their precious Air/Fire combo! How many decent builds have turned into juggernauts with the combo! How do you counterplay a random crit or hit! The whole system is just anti-fun!

Sorry but the worst designed class is Engi! The class is balanced in a way that if you decide to use a build without kits, it will fail! Also all Engis are pigeonholed into the Explosives and Alchemy tree! When the standard trait setup is 30/x/x/20/10 with only 10 free trait points to choose from, that’s extremely bad!
The best designed class… Guardian? No other class has been in every single meta since launch!

Shoutbow is the embodiment of everything that is wrong with Guild Warts balance! Here we have a super tanky bunker that can deal extraordinary damage for its bulk, has absolutely insane mobility and is one of the only classes that has access to permanent vigor, and has single handedly rendered condi builds worthless! #balance

Once all the new changes are in I’d be curious to see the math as I’d think Celestials power and condi combination may actually perform better than Knights potentially. Though celestial is losing 10% on the stats if I read right.
As for knights being better in PVE… not really at all. Toughness will contribute to you pulling agro, meaning more focus on you. While it does make hits you take less painful, it’s still going to hurt because that’s what PVE is, big hard heavy damage. I’m a bit more of a “throw them in the deep end” kind of guy though, I just think you learn much quicker when you’re punished more harshly for mistakes. Zerk is factually better in PVE, it’s just a matter of whether you can handle it or not.
Well of course zerk is better in PvE! But if you were only going to make one set of armor for both PvE and WvW, I would advise building for WvW! This is because if you build poorly for WvW, you will have a hard time doing anything whereas if you build poorly for PvE, well it doesn’t matter because PvE is such a joke and you can do it with any gear! Also I said knights is better for PvE than celestial! Not the best overall!

For WvW crafting celestial armor is a waste of time and resources! Knights armor with celestial accessories is best and is better in PvE if you don’t care about nerdy elitists yelling at you to use zerk!

The amulets will be rebalanced to compensate for the loss of stats originally gained from trait lines.
This is probably as good of a place as any to mention that we’ll also be using this opportunity to rebalance PvP’s celestial amulet to be slightly less effective. We’re probably looking at a 10%~ decrease in overall stats, but this number can change as we draw closer to releasing the core specialization changes.

Didn’t watch the video but I skimmed through the notes and it appears that Engi will basically play the same way! Explosives top dog, everything else garbage tier! What a shame! Assuming runes and sigils don’t change (much) then maybe a 15/30/0/20/25 build for a condi Engi! P/P + Adventurer Runes with the new Incendiary Powder burn duration! Seems good!

For PvE, the stunbreak is good and Acid Bomb is a blast finisher that deals tens of thousands of damage to a target standing still! Acid Bomb is also an okay movement ability! Everything else is pretty meh!

Yeah but why do you agree, what are the argument for why it’s better with power instead of condition! You can’t just claim something is better without reasoning it! I’m personal not whatever I think one of them is better then the other, and when are you condition focused and when are you power focused? Is it when you use rifle your power and P/P or P/S you are condition?
Because a power focused celestial build deals comparable damage to someone with berserker stats! Meanwhile a condi focused celestial build deals terrible power damage and terrible condition damage!

Meh! Judging from Grouch’s comments, these changes are already live on the internal servers so these will probably be the final changes that they release! I guess a discussion on proposed changes was merely just informing us of changes already finalized!
To reiterate what I said before, these changes are awful! “Bringing turrets in line with other forms of AI” is just a flawed concept since in comparison to other forms of AI, turrets cannot crit, cannot move, and leave the Engineers pretty much defenseless without any forms of extra dodge, weapon swap, etc! Turrets needed a change but theses “fixes” are just awful! But oh well! What do I know!

A build that focuses on Bomb Kit works better with pistol/shield! Shield synergizes very well with all the fields from the Bomb Kit and there’s so much burning from Fire Bomb and Incendiary Powder already that there’s absolutely no need for offhand pistol!
In my experience, a Bomb Kit build absolutely needs Elixir Gun! Unlike grenades where the auto attack can be decent from all the vulnerability and Sharpshooter/Shrapnel bleed stacks you can get, the Bomb Kit auto is absolutely worthless on a condi build! There will be a point where your condi bombs and pistol skills are on cooldown and you’ll obviously want to keep up the pressure! This is where spamming Tranquilizer Dart comes into play! It’s incredibly powerful and provides a stunbreak whereas Rocket Boots does not! With the meta heavily saturated with Fear Me Warriors and Rifle Engis, you’ll be glad you have a stunbreak, especially since you need to be in melee range to make good use of Bomb Kit! Elixir Gun is also good for attacking people at range! Most of the time it’s wiser to stay on the outskirts of a team fight and spam ranged attacks rather than going into the fray and eating cleave! Tranquilizer Dart is a much better option than Fragmentation Shot!
You’ll definitely want to drop Infused Precision and take Short Fuse! Bomb Kit cooldown reduction is really powerful and you also get 10% more condi duration! Your bombs will also apply vulnerability which is an excellent cover condition! You’ll also definitely want Forceful Explosives! That is a key trait in any build that runs Bomb Kit!
Overall, I’d recommend this version!

But honestly with the huge amount of AoE condi clear from shoutbows, Healing Turrets, Virtues of Resolve, etc., I find the usefulness of Balthazar Runes to be questionable! If your burns are constantly being removed before they benefit from the extra burn duration, doesn’t that lessen or even negate the value of extra burn duration? I think so! Therefore I always use Vee Wee patented Adventurer Rune builds! With this version you can keep the 20 point investment in Alchemy but are able to take Protection Injection which is a huge boon vs the insanely common celestial Engineers, turret Engineers, and power Necromancers and still have enough dodges with Energy Sigil! Like so!

Bad idea! Modified Ammo benefits power builds more than condition builds since the damage increase doesn’t affect conditions! That and celestial builds are better as power oriented builds! If you want to run Perplexity with condi sigils, it’s better to run full condi armor/weapons! You’ll deal more damage and be more durable!

This change is silly! Unlike other AI builds, turret builds make the user completely worthless! Hip Shot! Hip Shot! Hip Shot! So mighty! Plus turret Engineers can’t swap weapons and are absolutely worthless off point! It only makes sense that turrets are beefier and stronger than other forms of AI!
I would’ve thought the obvious change would be to have turrets scale with your stats! An Engineer that values damage while sacrificing defense will in turn provide frail, high-powered turrets and vice versa! That way someone that builds to be a bunker can’t deal much damage and someone that builds to be a damage dealer can’t take many hits! But oh well! That logic is wasted on the cele meta which some classes build to be a bunker AND deal decent damage! #Anet!

What’s your role as a settler Engi! Not sturdy enough to stand on point! Not enough damage to… deal damage! Doesn’t seem like a very effective PvP build!
Anyways shield stopped being a thing because Engis stopped running Grenade Kit/Bomb Kit/stunbreak in favor of Grenade Kit/Tool Kit/stunbreak! Losing Bomb Kit is losing a lot of burn uptime that needed to be remedied through offhand pistol! Burning is how a condi Engi deals damage! With the introduction of Balthazar Runes, shield is kinda ok with the Grenade/Tool Kit/stunbreak loadout because of the long Incendiary Powder burn time but it’s super defensive and not something that I’m personally a fan of!

The objective in stronghold turned from defending a point from someone or capturing a point from someone, to defending NPCs from someone, or Killing NPCs someone is trying to escort. The player Engangement is still there, and giving the reliance on these NPCs and the increased movement, I say its even more engaging than conquest.
I would like the objective for PvP to be PvP and not PvE or standing on point but maybe it’s just me!

Condi Necromancer is a burst build and their burst is already absolutely insane even without burning! It’s like you guys didn’t play Guild Warts 2 when Dhuumfire was a thing and Necromancers were 100-0’ing literally everybody! 700 damage burn ticks is a lot different when in a 1000 damage/tick fear chain post nerf + 1000 damage/tick bleeds as opposed to 600 damage burn ticks with a few bleeds and confusion from a condi Engi or (lol) 2000 damage/10 seconds from a cele Engi! I didn’t think that needed explaining but I guess I was wrong!

Condi Nec never had Blunderbuss/Jump Shot/Prybar on top of condi pressure. Just a combo of two of those skills assuming crits from Int sigil with some additional bleeds and some burning will do more damage than a fear chain of old ever did.

Engineers are also totally capable of taking someone 100-0, I would know after Oeggs did it to me and inspired me to change my build and playstyle entirely. That was the first time I ran into slick shoes.
Seems like a Slick Shoes problem and not an Incendiary Powder problem!
