How much AR do I need for level 50 fractals?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Agony_Resistance

This chart shows that at 70 AR you should have 1% damage per tick.
I believe its still 1% even at 90, if I am reading all the info correctly.
“It should be noted, however, that AR above 70 does not give any additional beneficial effect.”
Possibly you are taking damage from more than just Agony? Possibly check the combat log? Could you post us a screenshot?

Best Way Out Of The Following To Make Money?

in Players Helping Players

ArtemisJade.9068

Personally, I like to do the easy dungeons, (COF 1 2 SE 1 3 COE all paths TA up and forward AC all paths) and then go chest farm. Chest farming gets so monotonous and takes nearly no brain power so its something I usually save for the end of my night, but in terms of time to gold chest farming is usually the best. Unless you have a super duper fast dungeon group.

Close the equipment gap

ArtemisJade.9068

What equipment gap? Its only like 5% unless you’re in a lvl 50 fractal. Personally, I think ascended gear is great. It gives me something to work towards instead of just legendaries. Plus, ascended gear is farmable. Its not like people are cash shopping all their gear like in WoW and other MMOs. I mean I am sure a few here and there do, but the vast majority has farmed it if they have it from my in game experience. Plus, everyone has plenty of time before HoT drops to make some ascended gear. The playing field is leveled in pvp already (gear wise). It doesn’t need to be in pve. People need things to work towards, other wise what is the point of pve?

Why do players get multiple portal drops?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ArtemisJade.9068

ArtemisJade.9068

So all the guild wars playing take turns rolling a 10,000 sided dice. If they get a 1 then the player gets into beta. The number 1 is not removed from dice.

A very good point. But bear in mind the problem with you statement:

The number 1 is not removed from the dice, this is how it should be. But note that the guild wars players who roll a 1 on that 10,000 dice are not removed from the pool of players trying to roll a 1.

And so does this also mean that some guild wars players are getting more rolls of the dice than others?

I think it’s a fair question.

I mean no offense, but I don’t really think you thought this question through before asking it. “And so does this also mean that some guild wars players are getting more rolls of the dice than others?”

Let me try to explain this,
The “number of rolls” that players get is directly correlated to how much they grind SW/Drytop, depending mainly on how many events they complete and how many mobs they kill. A mob kill is a roll. An event chest is a roll. A bonus event chest is a roll. Players themselves actually have total control over how many rolls they get. So yes some players are getting more rolls of the dice than others, but that is because they are grinding more than others and hitting more events than other players.

RNG is RNG is RNG is RNG. Its random.

Technically the amount of events you hit, your magic find, and the mobs you kill all correlate to your chances of receiving a beta drop. However, people who grind less are still able to get portal drops than people who might grind more due to RNG. However, your chances are still technically higher if you grind more. This does not mean that that player got more rolls then you, it just means they rolled the “1” on the RNG and you didn’t.

I personally got mine off of a bonus event chest claiming Indigo in SW.

Also, I believe someone getting multiple portal drops, also has no effect on others getting it. Your roll is your roll.

Also, someone getting multiple portal drops, only claims 1 beta access spot.
There is no point in getting salty over this.
Just work for it if you really want one. If you don’t, then give up.
Simple as that.

I started on my ele….and I have tried every other class since then. Elementalist is my favorite by far still. If you want to start with an ele do not be discouraged. But, I do recommend playing with a friend. The beginning can be a little rough all on your lonesome. Personally, I have always played mage type classes in every MMO I have ever played, so being squish was always a given. Roaming with a friend makes things much easier as you learn.

ArtemisJade.9068

As an end game player I feel like the game is not completely dead. Yes I would be very happy with new content however, I feel that I do have at least a few things to choose from every night.

- Work on another legendary.
- Work on the rest of my ascended gear.
- Achievement hunt (Some of those achievements in past living stories are actually pretty difficult)
- World Boss Hunt
-PvP
-WvW
-Aether path in TA for the chance of a skin.
- Arah
- Help guildies
- High level fractals.
- Daily activity achievements.

There are tons of things for us to choose from….its just none of these are new so we don’t get excited over them, or at least the general player base doesn’t. There are a few fan boys/girls out there that really do still (props to you) but generally people like things that are shiny and new. Its just how we are.

Anet is working to get us HoT that will bring that shiny newness.
Until then you should either take a break….or farm up a pile gold so you can buy into the shiny newness when its comes.

What is "experienced"?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: ArtemisJade.9068

ArtemisJade.9068

Pugs always seem to be getting carried, but by who exactly?

Any real experienced player obviously doesn’t pug, because pugs are to be avoided like the plague. People asking on the lfg for “experience” or “meta builds”, are probably looking to be carried… by people who join them, who are also looking to be carried… I’m surprised I even get through any dungeon in this game in under an hour by pugging.

PS: I’m not saying I’m a good player. But for some reason the anti-pug sentiments kinda annoyed me for once ><

I sort of disagree with this, but I can see where you are coming from. I have about 3 years experience with GW2 and about 11 years experience with mmos in general and I pug all the time. If my guild does not immediately want to go I will PUG a dungeon run and it hasn’t often caused any serious problems. I’ve actually had some PUG groups that were faster than the guild ones, and I consider my guild pretty good when it comes to dungeon runs. Pugging has its advantages too….you don’t have to wait on all your “static” to find a time that works for everyone and you meet new people sometimes that become friends

If a group is super bad you can also always leave with no hard feelings. If you’re in a guild run and its really bad you might feel required to stay because hey….they are guildies right?

What is "experienced"?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: ArtemisJade.9068

ArtemisJade.9068

To me experienced means that you have ran the dungeon successfully at least one time and have a general idea of what to do and how you should build your class for that dungeon.

Some parties have no problem with new people however the issue is that most new people are afraid to tell you that they are new. Don’t be thaaaaat guy/girl. Personally I have no issue taking new people as long as they are honest about it. If you let a party know that you are new or inexperienced or you have only done the dungeon a couple times and may not know what to do, some times a more experienced player will speak up and lead you in the right direction. When I was a noob, I once had a group drag me into a voice chat simply so we could all communicate better. It is annoying to experienced players if you do not let them know in the beginning. If they are not okay with teaching, then get out of that party. They can find someone experienced and you will save yourself a toxic dungeon run. No one likes to carry someone who has no clue what they are doing and wasn’t honest about knowing the dungeon. That being said, I am experienced with all the dungeons at this point but there are days where I will have a blonde moment and not know what I was supposed to do on certain path. Its okay to ask your group questions. Honesty is the best policy.

Subnote: Dungeon guide videos are your friend as well.

ArtemisJade.9068

No matter what Anet does some people are always just going to look for the fastest way to make a buck. This is the mindset of chest farmers. I’m not saying there is anything wrong with that mindset I’m just stating Anet did not invent chest farming. Players did.

If you look in the looking for group tabs you’ll find many SW maps that are not recruiting for chest farms but for actual events (40% SW, 80% SW, Breach SW, 4/4 SW, VW, ect.) Join one of those maps to get the true SW experience. Silverwastes is actually pretty fun (especially vine wraith and the whole undermap maze thing is pretty cool too.) Yes chest farming is brain numbing. Yes its totally boring. However it will make you money pretty quickly with any luck. Just don’t join a chest farm map if you don’t like it. Simple.

Precursor. How do you do it?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: ArtemisJade.9068

ArtemisJade.9068

Hi there Hope!

The only way to ever get a precursor with a 100% chance is to just grit your teeth, save the gold, and buy it off the TP. People with multiple precursors are just very lucky with the mystic toilet or they buy them off the market or they are just uncannily lucky with drops. Its all random except the buying part. The best way to get a precursor in my opinion is to find the best gold farming methods that work for you and just farm, farm, farm, farm, farm and maybe one will drop along the way.

If you get rares while you are farming you can always give the mystic toliet a flush if you’re feeling lucky otherwise I would salvage the cheap ones and sell the more expensive ones.

In my own experience, I have gotten 3 precursors playing for 3 years or so. 1 was a random lucky drop from an underwater mob in Southsun. 1 was me dumping about 300 gold into the TP with rare great swords and mystic forge stones (highly unrecommended because its not a guarantee)The last was a Valentine’s day gift.

Subnote: Also, in the expansion, there will be different ways to make precursors as well. So I would also read up on that.

Functionally speaking you do not need to be on the same server as your guild to join, however, if that guild is a WvW guild they may require that you join their server so you can WvW with them. (You can only enter your own server’s WvW for obvious competitive reasons.)

It costs a lot of money to transfer servers to keep WvW stable and also to discourage server hopping simply so you can be on the winning team when tourney times roll around.

Yes you would have to delete all characters on your account and their items to transfer for free.

1800 gems is approximately $22.50 however, keep in mind that if you wanted to stay on your current server for a while and level up, you can trade gold for gems. If you farm enough gold you can farm 1800 but it will take a while.

Otherwise if you wanted to join a PvE guild you don’t really need to transfer servers as the PvE portion of the game is on mega servers and you can always catch a taxi if you get placed on a different server than your party of guildmates.

Hope this helps.

You don’t even have to guest anymore. All the servers are merged for pve. Just party up. If happen to get on a different instance just click there portrat and choose joins map.

The original poster wants to wvw with his friends.

And @OP – I also returned recently. I can’t tell you how many times I have scrounged up the gold to transfer servers simply to play with friends in wvw. While yes it is annoying, I do believe its a good system. It encourages server wvw loyalty and makes it more expensive for spies. I don’t believe anyone should be given a free ride to transfer servers….especially to the top tier ones. If a player wants to be on a particular server bad enough he or she will be willing to work for it.

I would probably go with what I have for my main: a charr engineer.

The sheer physical strength of the charr would go a long way to ensuring survival in the brutal world of Tyria, although I would likely spend most of my time building things and showing the Charr and Asura what can be done with the technology they have (i.e. ranged weapons that can shoot more than 50 feet, vehicles, etc).

Then I would work to get all the warriors of the various races to coordinate (seriously, if an epic final world boss can be defeated by 100 or so players with the pitifully short ranged weapons currently in the game, imagine what could be accomplished by several thousand soldiers with modern weaponry, possibly imbued with magic for those foes that are supposedly immune to physical damage).

Once the various issues with the world are sorted out (wiped out undead, dredge, centaurs, branded, etc), I would try to coordinate with others to rebuild Tyria and upgrade the infrastructure to be more in line with modern standards and try to usher in a golden age for Tyria.

Or the races could get bored and decide to start fighting each other since there aren’t external threats to unify them anymore, in which case I would build my own airship and head for parts unknown and explore the rest of the world.

Oh kitten….I was about to shout Lord Aurelius for president until I read the last part and changed my mind. A captain always goes down with his ship.
