Hello,

I’m looking for a friendly raiding guild, my experience is limited in that I’ve only done W1 due to leaving GW2 as W2 was released and having come back in the last month, unfortunately it’s a bit of a struggle pugging with my 17LI, I did manage to get the Eternal title (without buying runs …)

I’m wanting to expand into all raids and increase my LI gain to achieve legendary armour

yeah but then we’re reliant on having boons to strip, and we don’t know if it’s based on stacks, ie 5 stacks of torment from sc3 = 5 burn stacks or 1 burn stack for the single application of torment, guess we’ll have to wait for the skills, not sure if what we’ve been given makes us raid viable?

Cool vid but I couldn’t watch more than half of it…

As a necro roamer and duelist I can’t stand the fact that at the start of every duel you are close to 100% deathshroud, I would never go above 20% when starting a duel vs someone, other than that its cool, don’t see many axe necros

?? Another thread they doesn’t say anything different? Every condi thread already compares gear dire v soldier. Why make another one that says nothing different? You could have posted this in another thread and get the same counter arguments from the same people.

If I make a warrior is op thread you know who will reply? The same people that posted in the other warrior thread both sides pro and anti nerf crowds.

Hi, yes it’s another thread stating the same crap, maybe if we do it enough Anet might actually DO something about it?

The reason I mention Dire is because I consider it the counter part to Soldier, I know full well that carrion/rabid and other such armour allows a condy build to dominate more but for comparisons sake I used Dire.

No one can deny this – currently condition builds are all bunkers that can deal decent damage, the counter part to this for direct damage builds NEED to sacrifice the defensive stats for offensive stats to get as much outcome that a condition build can achieve.

Add on top of that boons such as protection that lower direct damage even more. blocks and evades that ignore direct damage whereas conditions still tick no matter how many times you spam that dodge.

Yes there is condy removal and I know that counters it but conditions are easily applied.

This thread is no about conditions being OP, I don’t care about that. I just want to get across the sacrifice that power builds need to make in comparison to condition builds and I want to know how that is justified.

I have posted examples to you, I consider dire to be the counter part to soldier, toughness and vitality, power NEEDS crit and crit dmg along with those defensive stats or you WILL hit like a wet noodle.

Condition builds DO NOT NEED condy duration or precision to deal good DPS.

go run full dire on a necro/thief/mesmer or whatever condition build you wish to play, your conditions will hurt.

then go run full soldier on the same classes and look at the dmg difference.

yes you need precision and crit dmg, you most probably will get it from traits, but because crit dmg is being nerfed you will need more than you do now to keep up with the pressure a condition build can achieve.

Yes i can use berserker jewellery and get the crit dmg and precision that i will need, but the condition build counter part doesn’t need to sacrifice what i have to, he can continue using dire jewellery and be just fine, whereas me with the zerk jewellery just lost a lot of defensive stats for the much needed offensive stats.

I don’t understand how this isn’t making sense

I can’t because the post was edited, but let’s say minimal crit dmg and precision, what do you plan to do in pvp, run soldier ammy with zerk jewel for the little crit and precision you think is enough? You will still hit like a wet noodle with every class other than thief and warrior

you state that power builds can be fine without any precision or crit dmg, please try every class with a power build in pvp and I think you’ll find the only classes that are fine and will not hit like a wet noodle is warriors and possibly thiefs. This is even more so in wvw where food makes a huge difference for some builds (crit dmg food/ – condy duration etc)

If i go full soldier on my necro I will not kill anything, precision and crit dmg are a must for any presence of pressure whereas if i went a condition build with full dire (no offensive stats other than condy dmg) I will pressure and kill with ease.

Out of all the stat combinations we have in gw2 at the moment, there’s a reason why most people that want to do some kind of dps use berserker, it’s because it’s so necessary, but to use that you give up defense, condition builds don’t have that problem, all condition builds in game at the moment are bunkers that can deal decent damage.

Yes i did not mention condy duration but i did mention precision, the reason i did not mention precision as a main stat for condy is because not all classes rely on it or need alot of it to do anything, 20% crit chance is more than enough to proc any on crit condies, and just as an example I main a necro, I can run full dire having minimal crit % and still proc dhuumfire just fine.

As said in pvp condy duration is available from sigils/runes and passively from trait allocation for most classes so it’s not as necessary.

Not only that but i’m talking about armour stats and correct me if i’m wrong but isn’t there only 1 set that gives condy duration? and no one runs it because it’s so easily obtained from other means.

Hi all,

Most of the threads on forums talk about how OP conditions are compared to power and the sole reason for this is the stats that your gear possesses, yes some classes can be toned down in how much damage conditions deal etc but hear me out.

A power based armour relies upon these stats to deal damage;
Power
Precision
Crit dmg

You then further need
Toughness
Vitality

if you want any hopes of surviving, at the moment people feel forced to spec some sort of berserker armour or amulet if in pvp otherwise they will hit like a wet noodle.

Condition builds need only one stat to be effective, and all condition armour has it;
Condition damage

You can argue precision for those that need to proc on crit but it’s not AS necessary as crit dmg is to a power build.

Condition builds then gets these stats as “secondary bonuses”
Vitality
Precision
Toughness

So as you can see Power based builds require more stats to be effective meaning some form of berserker (or valk/cava) is needed for that precision + crit dmg to be effective forcing power based builds to sacrifice their defense for offense whereas condition builds do not need to do this.

What i suggest before Anet introduces the new crit dmg stat;
add crit dmg to all armour types in the game as a secondary stat, obviously varying depending on which stat type it is (zerk will have far greater crit dmg than say soldier)

This way power builds could potentially use other stat types without having to sacrifice the defensive stats which might just help against condition counter parts.

I have nearly all classes at 80, I do not pvp often but i roam solo and duel alot in wvw, i consider myself a good player.

I main a necro but sometimes use my guard for roaming, In a meditation guard build, I have NEVER seen anyone even think about taking glacial heart for some form of soft cc and the fact that this guy uhtameit even considers it viable is beyond me. I suggest he actually try and play a guard.

Also just to note @ uhtameit who keeps spamming the same crap as to why guardians should gain mobility and not lose anything else;

Do warriors have that tradeoff? because from what i see they have the best health/damage/mobility/sustain for the past 6 months so maybe you can understand why guardians might be a bit peeved? especially when I see the argument of being a “heavy class” …. lolwars

don’t know if this has been said, but again as we already know with current life siphoning. It sucks because you cannot heal with it in deathshroud.

so what happens when, in a pvp situation, you are fighting 1v2 on point, you focus your opponent with condies to try and sustain yourself better but are then forced into deathshroud because of all the focus fire, all the health you would be getting from the condies is now useless.

This trait sounds good but since no one uses life siphoning in blood why would this be any better? especially when there’s alot of classes playing anti condy

have you tried aiming DS auto onto people to imitate how this trait will work? I can’t understand how you like the way it is right now, it’s too hard to land for the pitiful gain that you will get IF you manage to land it on an ally

You’re not trying to hit your ally, you position yourself so your ally is between you and your life blast target. It will be pretty easy to land, really.

which makes it extremely hard to land correctly? especially if everyone is constantly moving?

and what if you want to heal someone but they’re out of range because the target is in front of you and they’re behind the target? move through/around until you get lined up to get the 800 heal off? lol wow, a guardian can do 1 dodge roll and get the same result with minimal healing power.

I have heard rumors of necros being able to trait for piercing life blasts, and it might even be in the same traitline at the adept level…

Why are we accepting it? Because it’s bringing us something we lack, and it’s actually bringing it in a pretty potent way.

I will test this now in wvw zerging, I will tell you my results. I suggest you do the same since your so adamant that this will be decent, hf trying to land life blasts on people who need a heal.

This is way too situational to use effectively for the heal that it gives, why not make it easier and give us another viable tool so that we might actually see some support necros?

Hi all,

I’ve come up with a suggestion since hearing about this trait, it will be terribly hard to land this ever without aiming the camera and randomly auto attacking or targeting someone and hoping that your ally is standing between you and them to receive the heal???

So since deathshroud is our only defense mechanic, meaning that you, Anet, have again tied something else to our defense mechanic we now will have to choose between tanking, healing or dpsing if we choose to take this trait.

don’t get me wrong it’s skillful play which i’m all for but this skill will be way too hard to land on anyone.

What i propose?

You change this GM trait so that Lifeblast explodes on the target you hit.

You can add damage if you want or not, but anyone within the radius of the blast will be healed if they are an ally or damaged if they are an enemy (aoe/cleave please???)

meaning that we can actually provide some backline support with piercing lifeblasts rather than mindlessly spamming the skill (please have you actually tried to land this heal on anyone in the middle of a fight???)

let me know what you guys think, hope Anet reads too.

Hi all,

I want to get your opinions on which legendary I should aim for on my necro, the trouble i’m having is that it’s either dagger or axe since scepter and staff don’t really fit the necro theme plus I play a power build anyway.

I’m not sure on which to go for, obviously axe is less common than dagger but also worse than dagger for necros, I will wait until the feature patch before i even make anything just in hope that axe might get a cleave (doubtful) but for now i’d like to get your opinions?

the only thing im having trouble understanding is why are they associating it with deathshroud, it’s like there was no other ways to change it except putting it on ds 1.

The reason i dont understand this is because unlike every other class that has vigor/evades/blocks/invulns w/e … we have nothing, our defense is deathshroud, they keep forcing us to choose between using it offensively or defensively and it’s complete bullkitten, It wouldn’t be so bad if we actually had some other form of defensive skills but we dont.

Now your left with the option, if you even take this trait, do you go into ds to condi burst or do you save it for when the thief opens up with backstab …. choose the wrong one and your kittened …

I read the first page of responses to this thread, mine probably wont be read but I will say this anyway.

Currently ascended armour is the worst form of progression I’ve ever seen on an MMORPG. I know many people don’t want progression but it really stumps as to why not, why would you NOT want to have goals to aim for.

What do you aim for if there’s no gear progression, living story? pve? wvw? all these could be a lot better with gear progression.

If there was no progression in this game then what would people aim for? weapons and armour skins? sorry but I got bored 10 months ago of trying to look like a special snowflake compared to everyone else. I want enticing content with rewards that matter, I want challenges and offer me decent rewards or rewards that are acceptable for the time/effort of said challenges. NOT pve story content which ends every month and poor balance updates… sigh, this game has so much but it’s just going no where

Hi,

so i met this guy in pvp dueling, I knew his name, seen his guide.

He was dueling with d/d, staff, running 30 0 0 20 20, using movement speed in blood with duel daggers and dhuumfire, with zerk ammy.

I asked the simple question, why dhuumfire vs close to death, (just to note the burn is 650 dmg … lol)

and got back a response that goes something like “suck fat kitten” which is when i realised that this guy who people probably know for his guide is a complete kitten in game.

further more his defence in reply to me, after i got it out of him ofc, is that his burn protects his chill and immob. just to confirm guys, this burn is 2-3 SECONDS LONG and does kitten poor dmg.

Now let me get your opinions, dhuumfire over close to death?
also, using quickening thirst in a duel? (lol)

I love it Ron,

I’ve been considering going back to WoW, my guild even offered to take me through the recent heroic raids to get gear. I love GW2, the game play is amazing, but everything else is just sooooooooo kitten that I just get annoyed more than anything. everything seems the same, no progression, nothing to aim for.

their selling slogan should be : Play GW2, grind for skins so you too can look like that special little snowflake you’ve always dreamed about ….

I’m so dam bored of you spamming new skins into the game, I WANT SOMETHING TO AIM FOR THAT ISNT SKINS

and not that crap ascended armour that they put out with barely a different in stats compared to exotic, I want tiers just like WoW or ya know what, im gonna stop buying diamonds and i’m gonna kitten off back to WoW because I’d rather pay the 10 quid a month sub compared to this.

I’m glad I don’t have to wait in town any more while shouting LFG Monks! But The combat is so bland. There just isn’t any depth to it. The dungeons are just a gimmicky grind, with enemies that take way too long to kill (so everyone skips them), and damage is way more important than defense or healing (so everyone goes zerker).

There’s no real inter-class dependency, however! There are still classes that are more effective at some things than other classes, thus making some classes inferior. For example, if you’re doing the Burrows in Ascalon Catacombs, a simple Icebow will instantly vaporize any burrow. But try DPS’ing them to death without Icebow, and you have a lot more difficulty. And Guardians clearly make all the difference in the world when survivability is concerned.

So what we have is no trinity, but horribly unbalanced classes in PVE. And apparently my necromancer is just there as a cheerleader for the guardians.

But oh wait, hold the press!

Then there are the large open world events, such as Tequatl and the new Wurm bosses, that require a level of cooperation that goes so far in the other direction, that after a few days no one bothers doing them any more. It’s just too much work to get everyone in the same overflow (without being able to choose districts), and to use Team Speak (which isn’t a game feature, which the devs seem to forget every now and then).

Isn’t there some middle ground?

Can’t we have smaller scale content that requires a higher level of cooperation than dungeons, but can be done with a modest group of people (or with your guild), and without Team Speak?

Absolutely spot on with your analysis of why this game feels so “meh” for me. As an ex WoW heroic raider the PvE content in this game is so poor sometimes I play runescape to get away from gw2.

I know most wont agree with me because they don’t like to grind or time investment, but this game needs;

PROGRESSION: armour/levels/weapons/fresh content

THE TRINITY: LF1m healer, how about people learn to play a different play style rather than spamming lfhealer all the time, it’s not actually that hard.
it would add more depth to this game, tanks, dps, healer in WvW, you could actually coordinate instead of spaming skills and running in a group spamming auto attack (my god this game is a challenge)

CHALLENGES: ya know why a lot of people stopped playing WoW (not including me) they preferred the old content that catered towards actual skill, effort and coordination and they made the game easier to cater to the noobs that don’t know their left from their right.

REWARDS: when a group of 50 people come together which is a rare occurrence in this game and are successful in killing or doing whatever they’re doing they should be rewarded greatly for that achievement. Even boss fights/dungeons that are more challenging should reward better.


This game cannot go on if all Anet is gonna do is keep releasing more skins rather than progression items that people can aim for, because sooner or later people get bored if their only goal is to look like a special snowflake. I know I am already.

Yes it would be amazing if they were better, so ya know, people actually had something to aim for in this game instead of everyone trying to look like a special snowflake. this is why games like WoW are king.

even if they did up the stats to ascended they would have to add additional ways to get it rather than crafting, ie bosses.

w/e though, this game is sucking right now

I’ve played guildwars for 10 months or so now, I main a necro. I have played all aspects of the game and consider myself to be a good player. I roam solo in wvw most of the time, I spend most of my pvp time duelling.

I have played around with the dhuumfire build when it first came out and used it for a few weeks, I wrecked people, damage has never been a problem. I roam with my power build with full zerk and wreck people that aren’t used to power necro burst (not lich form … pls lol) I feel forced into taking certain traits and certain skills in order to perform as I do, stunbreaks are just so much needed for a class that has poor escape skills.

I do not have this problem on my thief or zerk guard when I roam/duel with them, they have the escape (guard only if there is something to target to teleport to) at the same time I have the exact same burst/dmg output that my necro has. I have the ability to reset the fight if needed or avoid the burst if I get more people attack me.

Please guys at Anet test this, build up your deathshroud bar to full, test how long it takes your. now do the same but have 1 or 2 people attack you and see how long it lasts, this is not attrition and this cannot be justified as our core defensive ability.

This suits gw2 needs as it could be a gold sink, your suggestion accomplishes nothing

Hello everyone, I’m not sure if this has been suggested before but this seems to be a very common issue.

Would it be possible for Anet to implement an NPC who has the ability to change an item that you have equipped which turned it soulbound and put it back to it’s original setting of account bound.

Of course this service would cost you and i’m not talking about the item shop (diamonds) I mean something similar to 5g for each piece.

Not only would this be good for the game in terms of a gold sink which I think we need but also would give people a way to “share” their ascended earrings/necklace/backpiece across their alts.

This service would only be available to items that were previously account bound.

what do you think?

I like the music for sure, gameplay wasn’t that bad but signet of the locust? wtb stun breaks also not once in the first 7 mins i watched did i see you locust swarm to transfer condys, could have saved you a few times.

The reason that race changes can’t work is because racial changes aren’t simply cosmetic. Unlike your name or appearance, the race of your character determines a lot about them—personal story, home instance, racial skills…even conversations with NPCs. As much as I like letting other people do their own harmless things, a race change would cheapen the PS and so forth even moreso than I feel it is right now. It wouldn’t be a race change in GW2, it would be more like a character overhaul.

I understand wanting a race change for cosmetic reasons, but if that’s the case really it’s better to just start over on a new character. Personally, I am happy with my characters. If I’m not, I remake them. I’ve done it lots of times. Arenanet doesn’t seem keen on racial changes at all, and I don’t think they will change their stance on that. I am sure that, if worst comes to worst, there are games out there that will facilitate your want for a new race, but really your race is absolutely not mere cosmetics. It doesn’t make any sense to switch races—it would break the core of your character.

I have 5 armor sets, full rabid/full dire/full berserker/full knights/ full soldiers, I have every weapon necro can use, I have sclerite dagger skin, dragon jade staff skin, ascended earings, t3 cultural skin, the 800 diamond skin and you want me to make a new character, get 100% map complete then spend 300 diamonds a piece on those new cash shop items to rip the skins off them for my new necro AFTER i’ve rebought all the armor sets + weapons? yeah sounds like FUN … >>

I do not care about personal story, mine is only level 30 or something because that’s how boring and crap it is to me, reset it by all means if it means i can change my race to something where i can actually see my weapons. In a game that advertises multiple skins for armor/weapons + introduces them frequently – This game is about cosmetic appearance and when i’m stuck playing a race that can’t show off as much as others (kitten i know) then surely something is wrong?

Hello, so my question is in the title, I have an asura atm but i find it’s really lack luster with the tiny weapon size, problem is i have 100% map complete + multiple armor/weapon sets including t3 cultural, I want to know if race changes would be coming to GW2 as I’m sure alot of people feel as i do.

hello guys, sorry for not searching but the website or my internet is being kitten.

I want to know information on the torment runes if anyone has any, I’m currently using perplexity changed from undead since they was meh only to find that fear is not working as an interrupt so the 6 point bonus is useless.

I’ve been thinking of switching the the torment runes, not wanting to use my heal as a condition application ofc but it’s a nice perk vs melee classes when i do heal.

What i want to know is if the torment duration is even worth it when we have limited application and what the radius is of the torment from our heal.

Necro’s are OP as it is. Here, I have the perfect steps for you…

1. Pull out staff
2. Spam 1 through 5 around you
3. Stand in the middle of your circle of win
4. Go lych form and prema-fear every thing
5. Go on forums, cry about being under-powered
6. Win

Dodge over staff marks and you suffer no effects, lich form does not have access to fear.

As a necro who also has a thief, I feel the main way to beat them is to fear burst them, if they are good they will stunbreak it strait away. a good d/p thief with correct stunbreak timings will be very hard to beat.

though i agree that deathshroud didnt need a nerf im very curious to know what this bug of extra damage we were taking in deathshroud was, if you could tell us how much damage we was taking before im sure some people would be less angry about this patch.

I once watched a twitch tourny for gw2 where you said that you didnt want to pigeon hole people into certain skills, you guys have just made spectral armor mandatory and MAYBE 15 into soul reaping for last gasp, my new condy build is 30 20 0 0 20 running either soul marks or 50% fear duration not sure yet, im still unsure of how power compares with condy builds now since you nerfed power at the same time in a way when it really needed buffs if anything.

I also feel that no matter how much LF you give ghastly claws it will still be useless unless over buffed, you need to apply the LF generation to the auto attack, ghastly is just so easy to dodge when so many have 100% uptime on vigor.

Hi Nemesis, not watched your vid yet but going to when i have some time spare since its long, was wondering if this is for PvE or PvP/WvW and if so what’s the advantages to using this in say PvE over a full power burst build like the last one you made. Also wondering how would this fare in WvW/PvP.

Im currently running d/d staff with knights main gear/zerk jewellery, i mainly wvw solo/small groups. My current build is 0 10 10 20 30, weakening shroud, greater marks, 50% life siphon and w/e you want with 20 blood magic trait, i run siphon on crits atm and then run spectral skill CDR, DS 30% less CD and DS has 50% more crit but can swap to stability if i need it. I am running 3 spectrals atm, walk/armor/grasp or wall

This build i find it very good with decent weakness uptime, decent life siphon and good survivability, o and i also use life siphon food in wvw. If played right you can take many people on 1v1 and also with this build you can swap to zerg mode easily by just taking ground wells in curses and well 20% cdr in blood and swapping utils for WoS/WoC. hope this helps

i have all 3, they are all very situational but since theres so much condy and putrid mark is nerfed/bugged i like running d/d atm for the extra condy transfer plus the weakness isnt bad if you can land it xD

Had some good times dueling and even doing some small group fights vs [aTs]! That one necro is a tough nut haha. I had to cut my time short, sorry to anyone who wanted to fight! :< I /saluted and /waved at the end, so maybe people will know which FoW guy I was, hehe.

Edit: Not sure if I rolled off in my fight with the [TaG] Engineer or if I got knocked off but if it was me I didn’t mean too. Don’t shrug at me when you play a counter to my build. D; I’ll bring lemongrass soup next time and hopefully do better! :>

Hello, I don’t know if it was me you was fighting, if you was the guard, i tried 2 necro power builds on you and couldnt beat you, came close a few times, then was forced to use the op condy build, then i logged my engi with the super shield to see how i could do vs you, at the end i use flamethrower knockback but didnt expect you to fly so far xD, we defo should have a rematch xD (btw i didnt shrug :o)

hello so i run a 30 10 0 20 10 build with sometimes swapping 10 from firearms to alchemy for AR, I mostly run 3 kits and used this build mainly because of teldo and koroshi, I main a necro and have been having alot of fun on him ( op right ) and im thinking that maybe since the recent patch maybe there’s more viable builds to run for wvw/tpvp/spvp using a condy build (cbf to buy a new set of gear for power ;p )

ok so i guess my question is what are most viable builds now for condy users?

Hello, gonna keep it short and sweet. I was wondering if there was any plans to add icons to the damage we do above our targets, so if its bleeds there will be a bleed icon etc, that way it would be so much easier to tell which condys/attacks are being done.
