So, I stopped playing at the beginning of June. I bought the expansion before I go, because I didn’t quit for good, just took a break, to play a MOBA game, because I was very disappointed with the state of PvP in this game.

Yesterday I tried to come back to GW2 and I got lost. Since when is this game so complicated? I never had problems to understand anything in the game before. Now started to think that playing MOBA has made me more stupid.

Anyway, here is my main problem:
There are specializations. Okay. I tried to master 2 of my characters, and turned out I don’t have enough Hero Points to do this. Both my characters – Guardian and Elementalist, are level 80 and have full map completion, so I have no idea how to get more Hero Points.

If I understand right, these Hero Points are the old Skill Points. Then I don’t wonder why I don’t have enough, I spent a lot of them for Philosopher Stones or something like this, to make full Ascended gear and weapons for my characters.

But also I remember before, when you level up even above 80, you got 1 skill point for every level. As a PvP player I have some stacks of Tomes of Knowledge, so I tried to use them to get more Hero points. It’s not working. I don’t level up at all, there is some yellow zero where my level should be.

I’m really confused what to do to get specialization, any help will be appreciated.

3 weeks ago I moved with my friends to another game. A real PvP game. Then 2-3 days ago I logged in here, queued for PvP match, waited 7+ mins and thought “wtf I’m doing here and why?” Then logged out. I haven’t quit, I still love this game but right now I have no reason to play.

The Abjured and these 3-4 EU teams was created some time ago, when the hope was still alive. Now not a sane person who is serious about PvP won’t start to create a team and to train seriously for e-sport in a game with less Twitch viewers than Sims 4 or Pokemon.

It’s been an issue for me since day one, but recently when trying to play more bursty classes and to duel, it’s a real pain. I can’t kill anyone if I keep losing the target any time I rotate the camera. I know, I know, press “tab”. But when the combat is so fast, constantly pressing a key is not the best way.

For what idiotic reason this game counts a click when the mouse button is pressed, not when it is released like it’s in the other games? So as soon as you click the mouse, it counts as a click and you either lose your target or end up shooting an ally. This should be changed, this makes targeting a nightmare.

What you guys doing not to lose the target? Any advice?

Yes, it’s Catch 22. Small player base leads to bad matchmaking. Bad matchmaking leads to decreasing of the playerbase, which leads to even worse matchmaking, which reduces the playerbase further…

The good news are, if they focus on improving any of both indicators, this will cause a snowball effect, where the good matchmaking will increase the player base and this will lead to better matchmaking. All of this is obvious for everyone, I’m sure. Then why nothing happens?

Better matchmaking will increase the player base, so will more carrots for the PvPers, like more titles, achievements and rewards. But the first step should be working skill based leaderboards. This is something that will have an immediate effect. That’s why I keep repeating it’s urgent. We need this, asap.

True, before people were stating things like “top 100 on the old leaderboards”. But now, 7 months later, even this is already pointless.

Yes, yesterday was a disaster for me too. I queued with 2 friends, both with pretty high MMR and we were teamed up with 2 beginners against teams of 5 competent players. This happened 3 times in a row before we give up and go for some dungeons. It’s hard to carry 1 beginner, it’s impossible to carry 2.

Maybe the worst was the second match, when we had 1 ele who rushed far, died fast and went afk till the end of the match, + 1 theif who started with asking me in MAP CHAT “guardian, come help me with Svanir”.

I ignored this, run to middle and hold it uncontested against 2 of the opposite team for a while, until their home capper joined them middle. My guys were 2v2 home. In the meantime he died to Svanir…

I was still 3v1 when my favourite thief started to spam my pm “why didn’t you help me, you little piece of kitten?” I was so shocked, that I died while staring the chat box, and then whispered him “I’m a bunker…” His answer: “Like a care”.

This was the moment I realized it’s pointles and just blocked and reproted. I shouldn’t be supposed to educate beginners in the middle of a match.

But in the discussion here I can see who has a clue (programmers maybe?) and who is able to help you. So why don’t you gather together online with your PvP group and these guys here, like Sunshine, timmyf, Rekou, Ensign, and figure out something really quickly? It’s urgent Evan, it’s urgent.

You guess wrong. And nobody is talking about the stats within the game.

PvP community is competitive by default. And we need objective and visual evidence of our improvement. We need to know where we are and where are we going.

Right now, we are like runners in a big marathon. We took part, because we like to run and like to compete, but after the start we realize we have no idea where is the final and if there is a final at all, or you just run until you give up.

So we run and run, we got tired but keep running, it’s a mess around us and we don’t know if we’re in the avangard or in the tail, we just run for the sake of running.

We see the same faces around, looks like these people run with the same temp like us, so we start talking to them, it’s always better to run in good company. We become friends and running is even more fun now, but we also hope at some point someone will tell us if we perform good or bad in this marathon.

But the staff of the marathon are just sitting around the road, with big grins on their faces, giving us bottles of water and blocks of chocolate and shouting “go guys, you’re doing great, keep running and don’t worry EVERYONE ARE WINNERS!”

You’re getting it right. They are proud to develop the game with the friendliest community, they want to spread love and harmony in the game and for some reason they think promoting competitiveness with things like visual MMR, skill base leaderboards etc will destroy this ideal. They are not right, of course.

The pvp part of this game is at an all time low. All that is left is a bunch of grinders that are pvping to finish their daily quests. Twitch viewers are lower than pretty much every big MMO including TESO, FF , TERA etc

I’m afraid they can’t understand the emergency of the situation. I thought they’ll understand when their best shoutcaster left because of this. They didn’t.

Working on the expansion is not an excuse. It will happen somewhere in the vague future, and the players are already tired of getting their daily dose of frustration. And they leave. Why you’d try to attract new players, if you can’t keep your old ones?

It won’t be a expansion of the player base, it’ll be an attempt for resuscitation.

The part of the “Setting the Stage” PS, when you enter the instance and see 3 children talking – human, assura and charr. I always stop and listen to them with a big smile on my face. It sounds so real, it’s obviously written by someone who has watched children roleplaying. Here is a part of the dialog.

Since I always play bunker/ support, I’m almost always the person with the least points. And this is normal, this is right. If for some reason I’m the person with the most points in the end of the game, that means something has gone terribly wrong.

The team work and the final result is what matters, not the personal score. Of course if I solo queue, sometimes I get moaned for this. But come on, who cares what some random people think?

I made a discovery! I need to share it.

So, you all have met these bad players who never stop to complain in the map chat how bad their team is and how they lose because of this. I call them “omg people”, because they start every their sentence with “omg”: “omg thief what are you doing, go far”; “omg war why no res”; “omg noob team”.

Yesterday I met and blocked 3 of them. The last one chose me for a target (since there was no thief in our team): “omg this ele does nothing, look at the scoreboard”. Well of course I had the least points on the scoreboard (100 I think), playing a staff bunker. Some of my points were for ressing him…Then “omg this game is lost” when the opposite team was leading 100 points in the middle of the game. We won.

After the game I happily blocked him and then I saw he has 17K achievement points! 17! K!

Then I looked at the other players blocked by me and realized that 90% of them are between 16 and 17K AP. And it hit me. It’s not the pure PvPers that trashtalk during a match. It’s the achievement points hunters.

And if you think about this, it makes sense. If you only PvP, you should accept the lost as something normal. You can’t get mad for every lost game, this would ruin your nerves. You most likely will accept the loss as a lesson and a way to improve. It’s different for AP hunters, because every lost game rides them off the next achievement chest. That’s why they go that mad.

This means AP hunters give bad name to the PvP community.

The funny thing is I was about to create such a thread when I saw this one. The reason was I just read in another thread how warriors have to sacriface their mighty Battle Standard to be able to get Rampage. Poor warriors have to choose between 3 great elites. It’s hard! How not to pity them?

Something should be done, I agree. Tornado is useless. Fiery greatsword gives great mobility. But is there another class that uses their elites not to wipe, but to escape? Elementals are okay I guess, just explain me why necro can have their elite minion untill it gets killed, and we can have ours only for 1 minute? And their recharges for 60 secs and ours for 120?

Joining the crowd of disappointed. I want to be the savior in the rye, not some smelly hairy dragon hunter with wings. Also for over a year in PvP haven’t seen a single dragon. That means they are already an endangered specie. Leave them alone. Save the dragons!

Are you suggesting the only valuable build for guardians atm to be nerfed, because you can’t kill them? Have you thought to ask for help and advice instead of coming here to cry for nerf? It will be a refreshing variety, don’t you think? I know a thief who pretty successfully deals with DPS guardians, so there is a way if you are really keen to learn.

Just I’m afraid it’s not ’slight". When I queue with full party and meet full pug team I already know the news are not good for us. Last night we lost a game 500-50 or something like this against a full pug team. Tell me again how they have been “slightly” better than us. Waiting 5+ minutes for THIS is not how you going to keep players in PvP.

So yeah, even for completely different reasons I also don’t want to meet pugs when I queue with a team. The most entertaining matches are when we meet a full party at our skill level or slightly better. Slightly. Some days exactly this happens and then we have good fun with close and intense matches, so I know it’s possible. Then we have a day like yesterday when everything goes down and I can’t understand why. Probably you’d be so nice to tell me?

These are minor oversights that can happen to the greatest minds. I’m always right about the big things in life, universe and everything. Just admit it!

Well I’m surprised I was the only one who expected this. That’s why I rushed my team to sign up in the first 15 mins, to be sure we’ll have a spot. Actually I was thinking the list will be filled for 1-2 hours.

They started to complain later to everyone who was there to listen “She bossed us to sign up asap”. I’ll make them to come here and read now and to see that I was right. As always!

I think OP is right. PvPers shoudn’t be rewarded with unique skins and make the PvEers feel bad. It’s absolutely disrespectful for people who prefer to run peacefully around the lands of Tyria and kill only to gather food for their families.

I’d go farther, there shouldn’t be also PvP titles, what about all these PvEers who want to display Champion title and just can’t, because they hate PvP? They should be able to get Reaper title for gathering 1000 herbes, Mist Walker title for completing 100 jumping puzzles and Legendary Champion for killing 1500 skritts. Sounds fair to me.

About the virtues, that’s how I was using them: Virtue of Justice – every time when it’s off cooldown. Virtue of Resolve – for healing if me or someone else in my party is low health and have used his healing. Virtue of Courage – very carefully. You can use it to block any big burst incoming to you or (more important) to anyone of your allies.

After Virtue of Courage, I’d use Renewed Focus to recharge it, and in case some of the other Virtues is not used, I’d just use them while chenaling Renewed Focus.

I’ll bump this, sometimes it’s hard to fill the party out of prime time and it’ll be nice if we have more active PvPers on our contact lists.

Okay, forget about mesmer and thief for now, pick up the guardian. Go for the AH buid, this way you won’t the the first target in team fights and this will give you more time to think and react. Timing of the skills comes with practice.

As BlackBeard stated, you’ll be placed with players at your skill level at some point, it just takes some time till the system figures out where you belong. Don’t get frustrated and don’t call yourself bad. You’re not bad, just a beginner. I believe soon you’ll start to enjoy PvP experience.

Not a sane guardian uses Spirit weapons, but I don’t see anyone crying over this.
More of the rangers gave up on the spirits and necros on the minions and this made the games more enjoyable.
