Players need to learn what "DPS" means

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Grover.8753

It’s a very clear thing to understand in GW2 as there’s such a thing called “skill rotation”.
Simply put when someone says “DPS” it means to use your most efficient damage dealing rotation. This typically entails not using your CC or evasive rotations which tend to do minimal damage. For example, a Ranger using CC’s instead of more efficient damage skills. The damage from Point Blank is far weaker than the basic Long Range Shot or Warrior Pin Down compared to Dual Shot. Unless you’re one of those idiots who faceroll their KB just because the skill is not on cooldown.

It’s also much quicker and easier to say “DPS that” instead of " primarily focus on using your damage on that instead of crowd controls and other less damaging abilities "

On top of that I’d rather hear “DPS” than “give it the D, give it the D”

We don’t need a free play. We need “World is full” fixed. If its intended to allow players to get into maps and get ready it would make sense but its not working this way. As it is free play is pointless when u can buy an Unbreakable Choir Bell for less than 1 silver. Then you can play till the cows come home and your fingers are bleeding. And with friends at that.

I understand since it’s not expansion content, E-sports or gem store related that you don’t care but maybe you should take the time to polish it a bit for the community. Just because it works doesn’t mean you should ignore it. Most, if not all, of these problems have existed since its release and because it’s seasonal they’ve not been touched yet. Before the “I don’t know what you’re talking about” or “Just git gud” start, I have no problems playing around these issues but it doesn’t change the fact they are still there. I’m always see these happen and there is always others who experience these.

  • Getting stuck inside gifts/snowflakes.
Just kill the player immediately when this happens or you’ll be stuck inside it until someone else comes along and breaks it up.
  • Player skills still active sometimes at start.
Looks like you attempted to fix this but failed.
  • Missing Area of Effect from mortar shots.
This affects mainly the very last shot at the end heading up to the exit.
  • Stutter jumping.
What is this? You jump holding forward and it seems something pulls on you make your jump short.
  • Failing to read “jump” command input.
I hear this often and experience it myself. You’re running, press jump then nothing. You run right off the edges. This is not player side lag because I sit between 50-60 ping and still get it.
  • Completely wrong hit-boxes for the Giant Snowballs.
How it feels they are versus how they should be:

I haven’t noticed any effect from anything resembling what you speak of. I’ve already spent 60+ hours in here easily with 30 hours in one sitting. Just recently I had one Charr doing it to everybody screaming “SNIPED!” when people would fall. If you see people consistently doing it to others and you want to make an attempt at some kind of retribution screenshot the chat and file a complaint. Webster define harass as to annoy or bother (someone) in a constant or repeated way so this falls under the guise of a legitimate reason to report them.

Is that why I’ve seen people getting randomly targeted? Because I have not noticed any effect from it

No, players are being targeted if someone thinks they’re hopping.
If you see someone at the start, and then suddenly at the end in a few seconds, target them. Then you can keep an eye on them to see if they’re really hopping, and then you can report them for cheating/botting/etc

No. Them targeting is their attempt to troll. They’re trying to make you fall by providing a distraction.

why would a red crosshair distract you, though? If you fail because of that, maybe jumping puzzles weren’t your thing in the first place.
Just look at the course and your own character, ignore everyone else, crosshair or not

irrelevant nonsense

You may find it hard to comprehend, but A LOT of players aren’t as good as I am at JP’s. They need their undivided attention to focus on what they’re doing to complete Winter Wonderland. When a big red cross-hair pops up over the head it blocks the view of their landing and where to progress too next. It also draws their eyes to the bright red coloring and that’s proven science….. The more casual players should not have to deal with immature children impeding the enjoyment of the Wintersday activities by trolling and harassing them as they attempt to complete their seasonal achievements.

If you’d like to obtain more k-boosters you should definitely do as suggested above. Obtain for yourself a character slot you can use to key farm for Black Lion keys once a week. Save your tomes (which you get TONS of) and use birthday scrolls. Complete your story up to level 60 for 3 keys and you will receive a booster at 38. It takes only 2 hours to complete. Once a week means 52 boosters for next Wintersday. Good luck and may Dwayna be with you.

Wish they had just made it like Mad King’s Clock Tower where everyone else is just a wisp-thing.

My thoughts exactly.

All I play is charr and I never have difficulty in a jp due to my size. It gets a little annoying to also hear people blame me for using a big character. I am not so rediculously huge that I take up the entire snowflake pad. Stop blaming us for your shortcomings.

But you can SEE your Charr; where and when he lands and where and when to jump. Imagine you had a big block covering your toon and you couldn’t tell either. I’m not saying I have problems with them but I do understand where OP is coming from.

When you play long enough you no longer have to actually see your character on the jumping puzzle. Hell you don’t even need to see where you’re jumping if you can memorize where to jump and what time to jump. Also if having a bigger character next to yours is such a huge issue for all of you then I have a solution that will solve everything for all of you perfectly. Wait, simply stand there for an extra second or two and wait for the person to go before you, and then go. This is such a simple solution to something that I don’t view as a problem, and we don’t need to do anything silly like changing character sizes or basically doing the same thing as what we did to the clock tower.

Like I said I don’t have problems with it maybe because I have over 9k hours and I’m used to it. Please read before you reply. but there aren’t many people who have the luxury to be able to spend so much time gaming on one race of character to have the cognizance of their footing. You want people to wait in a jumping puzzle which platforms dissipate within a few seconds? LoL. And what happens when ANOTHER Charr/Norn and full size comes up right behind you?? Give up? No, wait, they should just start over, right?

Some people have characters of every race. there are achievements for this. So because you only choose to play only one is irrelevant to existing problem. The fact that, as you said, you only play Charr means you have no experience or relevant association to OP’s complaint.

The ‘not being the true King’ aspect is one of the theories as to why the ritual wasn’t a complete success. It’s possible, for instance, that the portal Sohothin jumped through was a failsafe – if anyone who’s NOT the true heir gets their hand on the sword and tries to use it for the ritual, the sword gets pulled into a safe location where it can be retrieved and returned to worthy hands.

That said, something to note: Barradin’s crypt isn’t “The Foefire’s Heart” – that’s in the ruins of Ascalon City, towards the northeast of Plains of Ashford.

Ya. i looked at the dungeon since that’s where it was retrieved. It’s been so long since I’ve gone through those parts of the story. I was looking at the dungeon map and misidentified it as the same part of the story. In the center of the dungeon is the Waypoint I was wanting to talk about. That’s where it should’ve been performed.

Actually, we do know who the charr took the land we now call Ascalon from:

The grawl are native to Tyria, and Ascalon in particular. The earliest mention of them is found in early charr military tributes that predate the arrival of humans in the area. In these annals, the charr are always portrayed as victors with the defeated grawl pulling the charr commanders in great chariots. The charr dominated the grawl, forcing them into the Shiverpeak and Blazeridge Mountains and beyond, where they lived at a subsistence level.

With regards to the ‘rightful heir’ – the swords were granted by the human gods as a means of protecting the human kingdom of Ascalon. I highly doubt that when they gave them out, they were thinking that the Khan-Ur had a historical precedent over Doric’s line and thus that the charr should be able to undo anything that was done with the swords. If the gods were thinking of the charr at all, they were probably thinking of something to keep the charr out.

Particularly since there are indications, such as the charr fighting the Forgotten in the Blazeridge Mountains, that the charr were encroaching on sacred places and the human invasion of Ascalon may have been a response to that. The Foefire ritual may have been intended as a case of “use this, and it will destroy your kingdom but it will bog the charr down so they can’t press on to Arah, and when the charr are beaten back your heir can fix it”. However, with Adelbern caring more about Ascalon than the greater good, he didn’t care about Orr and waited until Ascalon was going to be destroyed either way.

Rytlock’s attempt to do it himself seemed to be based on the idea that it was just a matter of getting the correct pieces of regalia together and performing the right ritual. It’s possible that this is actually accurate: who does it is not important, and the connection to Ascalonian royalty is simply that you need the crown and Sohothin to undo what was done with the crown and Magdaer… but that he performed it at the wrong spot. However, it’s also possible that Rytlock misunderstood something – one possibility, for instance, being that the scroll he found says something along the lines of “the wearer of the crown of Ascalon”… but he’s taken it literally when it was intended metaphorically.

Ah, very good stuff there! The grawl slipped through the cracks on that one. It’d be quite humorous to see Grawl take a claim on territory. They too are able to wield magical artifacts. Would a lesser race be allowed to claim the lands though??

Though the gods may not have intended the Charr to wield such power, the fact that Rytlock is able to wield Sohothins power says that it’s possible. Good point on the crown, too. Perhaps it is also required to fulfill requirements for completing the proper ceremony and in fact it won’t matter AT ALL which race completes it long as they have all the artifacts.I don’t think it was performed in the wrong place though as it is “The Foefire’s Heart”, but maybe it needs to be performed and the birthplace of the swords where the Gods and Humans originally arrived in Orr. I highly doubt the Gods wanted the humans to destroy themselves just to save some land. By doing so still led to their defeat which left the land to, once again, be claimed by the Charr.

Thanks everyone for taking part in the discussion. I don’t know why but I get excited when we start talking about possibilities, lore and what may come. I wish there were more books. I’ve read them all three times over.

The problem with this theory that the rightful heir is a charr is that the artifact that caused the Searing is human bound in nature, being made by the gods. It seems highly unlikely that a prophecy about a human used artifact would be about a charr. Not impossible, of course, just unlikely. Plus, you have to think about the fact that that the Charr took Ascalon. We don’t know who from, but their history speaks of spreading from North and West of the Blazeridge Mountains and moving into Ascalon, see Ecology of the Chart. So they weren’t the first rulers of Ascalon, and hold as much claim as humanity did.

Actually, the Searing was cause by magic from the Titans, which are created in the Realm of Torment and controlled by Abaddon (fallen god). I’m sure you meant the Foefire. Also, the Charr were in those territories long before humans arrived making any kind of claim by Humans irrelevant. If any the Forgotten would have laid claim but their history is too shrouded to say whether or not they were inhabiting the area at the time. They fought against the Charr at Blazeridge Mountain prior to humans arrival but other history says they arrived by the Gods before the humans. The Forgotten are originally from the mists so their place in Tyria is “out of place”. Giants and Jotuns… rock friend! They lack the intelligence and social structure.

We should also consider the Mursaat, dwarves, and the Seers. With Lazarus return to power though brings up other possibilities.

I like Grover’s theory about the “rightful King of Ascalon” being Charr… except (a) do the Charr have kings? and (b) only the humans speak of “the rightful kings” of anywhere, especially Ascalon (and of course, Kryta). Humans seem to get bent out of shape about rights of succession — the charr only care about who has the mightiest fist; the asura give precedence to smartest, sneakiest, or who can sit the longest through a meeting without using the toilet; the Norn … do they have traditional leaders?; and the Syvlari, bless their little heartless trunks, they don’t seem very bent out of shape about having been misled by the Pale Tree about being Dragon Minions, lied to by Caithe, i.e. they don’t seem to have traditional leaders or intrigues either.

Well the Charr have the very first Khan-Ur. Khan-Ur, or the primus imperator, is the title used by the supreme rulers of the charr; underneath the Khan-Ur lies the imperators. The Claw of the Khan-Ur is the weapon of the Khan-Ur and having it is one of the requirements for a charr to become a Khan-Ur, another being performing a great act to show the individual’s power.

There has been only one true Khan-Ur, whose name is never mentioned and is only referred to as “the Khan-Ur.” The Khan-Ur unified the charr before the arrival of humans on the Tyrian continent, and was assassinated by humans around the time of the Exodus of the Gods. The four children of the Khan-Ur formed the four High Legions. Thus, the blood relatives of the “first Khan-Ur” would retain power over Ascalon. I believe this would be their ruler.

I think what Ashantara meant was that “Uncle Beemish’s magic sword” will have no relevance, not that Magdaer is irrelevant. It is far from proven that the two are one and the same.

I suspect, though, that Magdaer is going to make it’s appearance with respect to the Ascalon ghost issue rather than elder dragons. Someday I’m sure ANet will return to that plot thread.

I’m waiting for Rytlock to admit that he ignored the part of the prophecy that spoke of the “rightful king of Ascalon” since the charr obviously do not wish to acknowledge that any human ever had a right to rule Ascalon. That would certainly explain why the cleansing ritual was only partly successful. There is still one known Ascalonian descendant of Doric living, and perhaps putting the crown and either Sohothin or Magdaer in his hands would solve the charr’s problem with the ghosts.

Since this is about theory and speculation it’s true they’ve yet to correlate the two but I don’t know of any other magical swords already existing in the Lore. I do know the land known as Ascalon was originally claimed by the Charr, not humans, sometime before 100 BE. With this information the “rightful king of Ascalon” would be Charr (but Rytlock not being blood-related) until a race is announced to have preceded them in which the Charr conquered. When the sword was broken it created the Ghosts so it’s a possibility that once repaired it could contain their magic to once again form a powerful useful weapon. The swords were created as a pair with, possibly, a “circuit” of magic so with one being destroyed the broken “circuit” of magic was ineffective against the ghosts. Maybe the intended power was far too great to be contained in just one blade. Revenant can wield two swords so maybe the story will unlock a new stance once Magdaer reaches its original form. Anything formed by magic is related to the Dragons as history and lore shows. They are themselves there to control the balance of magic.

Since the swords were created in Arah during the time of the gods (whom we still don’t fully know their connection to the dragons though share similarities) and recent story tells of a “spectrum” of magic, the Gods would have had a way to convert energy (magic) in a similar sense as the current dragons do. Taimi’s research is similar. The ghosts magic could be converted back into the sword. It’d be a proper tool for current threats by re-engineering a certain effect from Chak organs.

Hmmm. I don’t know about that. If it wasn’t for Sohothin Rytlock Trombone would’ve never became a Revenant. Perhaps we could see something of similar consequence. Primordus’ champion was defeated with aid of a freezing technology developed by the Asuran but it might not be enough for the new juiced up dragon minions.

I’ll just say this: Tarir is not the best place. It’s simply one of the easiest because all you do, like SW, is grab the chests, but then you have a ton of down time between breaches. There are other….. places ….. you can farm where the drops alone sell for 10-20 silver each and can get about 70-100 in 10 minutes of farming with the right event rotation.

You should do your own research in different maps and you too will find a hidden jewel.

By the sound of things its already been repaired so I’d assume we’ll be hearing from Beemish pretty soon (If he’s not already dead). If she has the sword where is Beemish?! We’ve heard nothing of him. For a blacksmith to be able to repair a sword of such magic from a time when the Gods walked Tyria means he has some serious talent.

Maybe we’ll learn to harvest and duplicate the magic to use in other weapons. Seems like a pretty good idea!

With the increased activity of Primordus it would fit the billet for a magical weapon to be used against the dragon and it’s minions. Is it possible that another race (Norn, Dwarf, Tengu, Largos) could have been protecting this sword for just such a time?

Idea for a new Map Completion Reward

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Grover.8753

Grover.8753

This already does that. You can already access areas that your character has never been by simply clicking. Is waiting 60 seconds for someone holding “W” to run to you really SO bad it warrants a consumable to rectify? Should content be accessed first before you can enjoy it? If you don’t know it exist, how can your character visit it?!

Guilds and missions? There’s a portal in Guild Hall to teleport you to puzzle. If your guild isn’t waiting for you it seems you need a better community and communication. Like I said before, collect the ones you need. Be proactive and there are no problems.

You can’t buy the Teleport to Friends directly. You get them only from BLTC’s so some people may not have that many and may want to hold onto them for what if I need this one in the future for something more important than what I want to use it for now.

Sometimes it takes more than 1 minute to get to someone. Especially if it was a player on a new character that they tomed up to level 80 and were wanting to do the Arah dungeon with friends. Takes more than 1 minute to run from any of the racial cities or Lion’s Arch to Cursed Shore.

And I never said I was a player who would use such an item. I’m not. But other players having access to all of the other waypoints at the cost of the loss of map completion rewards does not impact me at all. Nor does a player getting access to 1 or 2 WP’s on a map for just the cost of the item, they can have the map completion rewards. I realize that other players do not care for immersion as much as I do.

Access to the Guild Hall requires HoT, I believe. Not all players have HoT. And my comment was that players should be able to play on the character they want not the one that has access to that area of the world. Including the one they made 5 minutes ago and would therefore not have access to all of the WP’s for Guild Missions yet. It’s not a sin for a player to want the ability to be able to decide if they want to buy access to the WP’s near the guild mission or if they want to huff it. Especially when they arrive or become free to join in with the guild missions past a reasonable wait time.

And again, you’re assuming that I’ve had that problem with guilds not waiting for me. I haven’t.

I was speaking indirectly to, inferring “you” or “your” as to player. It goes back to my original post. It’s just pure laziness. “You” ,“they”, “them” ,“it” or who ever it implies want to skip all content and story in order to gain access to otherwise locked events and reward systems without making any effort to do so. NB4JAFW.

Idea for a new Map Completion Reward

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Grover.8753

Grover.8753

Doesn’t sound good at all. You want your characters, each with their own separate world, stories and lives, to obtain access to places they’ve yet to discover. This throws immersion even further into the abyss. It takes 5-10 (max) minutes in each map to run around and grab waypoints, less if you only grab ones you need (i.e., Dungeons, World Bosses). It only saves time for lazy people. There’s no timer on map completion so you can do it as fast or slow as you want. Effort should equal reward.

If any kind of consumable was to be sold for unlocking you should receive ZERO reward, not even gift of exploration, because you did not explore. Then you can expect all those same people who purchase them to later want to make a legendary and be unable too because they were lazy. Also, if such item existed and if unlocked that way, imply a time gate to using them anywhere outside a city. Like I said, each character is unique.

Those that say, "I don’t have enough time to play for hours everyday to complete it. ", as before, there is no timer. Do it at your leisure or MAKE TIME. Take the hours you spend on twitter and FB and put it to your game. These ideas sound like nothing more than feelings of entitlement. “But I did it already. Why do I have to do it again?” YOU DON’T! There is no reason to complete map exploration! (except LEG’s which the player obviously will never make)

While were at it, I already completed the Personal Story and made Legendaries so I should be able to buy a complete story unlock and get a additional copies of my Legendaries for no effort what so ever.

Not all players care about immersion at all. Some players care about it for some characters they have and not for others.

So having one character complete world completion to unlock the ability to buy waypoints for their other characters would have no impact on the game’s fun level for them. It would actually probably increase their enjoyment.

I do think that if it unlocks more than say 1 or 2 WP’s per map that it should not grant any world completion rewards, including the Gift of Exploration.

1 or 2 waypoints isn’t going to reduce the effort needed as much as all waypoints would. And if the waypoints chosen are the ones near say world bosses, dungeons, and/or static guild mission areas, then many, if not most, players who want waypoints unlocked would likely be satisfied.

You’re missing the reason many players ask for the waypoints unlocked. It’s not to make more legendaries. It’s to be be able to play with their friends on whatever character they want without having to make the friend wait for them to run to the location – not the character that happens to have that area unlocked. This is especially true for guilds and guild missions that are on a timer.

Idea for a new Map Completion Reward

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Title says it all.

I completed Daily for Crab Toss and got a Daily chest but did not receive the reward for Crab Toss. I should have received a chest with a bag of gold, Karma consumable and a piece of gear but I did not. Fix bug please.
195 points and was there from very start.

How about it spits out salvagables that can be salvaged into t2-t6 mats with a rare chance it spits out mystic coins, spirit shards, Transmutation charges, karma consumables, unbound magic, add a small MF bonus, bloodstone dust, dragonite, empyreal fragments, charged quartz crystals. I’m sure there’s plenty of other things it could spit add that dont reward luck.

The only problem is you would still accumulate more than can be consumed..

During the Defend the Griffon Chicks from Svanir there’s a place right by where I’m standing that allows the griffon chicks to clip through the wall and run below the ground.

This allows for the event to complete without worrying about the griffons dying.

I located the problem. it’s not just about completing the story line. You need to complete on a character with the order you chose to join earlier on. Vigil for vigil belt, priory for priory belt, whispers for whispers belt. This needs more clarification or put the items on separate story instances.

They needed some way to keep people coming back. The game couldn’t people playing so the best way to do it is by giving away freebies and improving rewards to entice us.

I’ve posted about this recently and having collections gated behind failures. They offer you map rewards for event completion now which makes it even MORE difficult to get what you need. Promoting failure is fail backwards counter-productive mechanic. Anet nerfs event chains people fail purposely to farm so how is this any different? First they say “it’s bad. don’t do it. it’s exploiting the system” and now they expect you to do it then reward you for it.
ALSO, if there are numerous players around wanting the event to failure but one person who wants to be “that guy” and complete it just to kitten everyone off, that clearly violates Rule 1 of Guild Wars 2 Rules of Conduct causing grief and distress among the players. really dropped the ball on this expansion. If this is really the way they want the game to progress then their future is bleak.

Stop Gating Collections Behind Event Fails

yeah. I started trying 4 days ago for Wraith at Union. I’ve been through 3 different IP’s and leave 2 alts sitting in 2 different IP’s I’d say about 12 hours each day. Plus, the hours spent trying to get other events to fail. This mechanic is awful and just plain stupid.

Why is everyone so mad about the precursor?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Grover.8753

You’re right OP. There are too many over privileged whiny brats. That is just the way things are now. They all feel they shouldn’t have to earn anything and it should be available to them immediately. There’s also the “I could sell all the mats and just buy it cheaper off the TP.” argument about opportunity cost. I don’t understand why people are complaining about that. Just do it. Sell your mats everyday and move on I’m sure you’ll eventually have you coin needed to buy it. Nobody is forcing them to do the collection but they still want to complain about it. Another complaint is " ANET said they were making it easier and cheaper to obtain precursor." Anet says a lot of things they go back on.

Stop Gating Collections Behind Event Fails

@ ANET – You need to stop putting collections items behind events that need failure to receive them. It’s even worse now since map rewards are received for doing events. You want to reward people for completing events but screw over people needing collection items? How the KITTEN am I suppose to do a collection gated by event failure if people are constantly completing events? Why do I have to constantly yell out “I need collection item. Let it fail. Let it fail. STOOOOOOOP PLEEEEASE!” just to be completely ignored and after waiting 45 minutes for something to spawn just to be screwed over and over and over by randoms.

Stop gating events behind events that need to be failed.

- Mistward armor is now account bound when earned and will soulbind when equipped to a character.

It’s great that you FINALLY fixed it Anet but are you not going to apply this to the already obtained armors? It’s still sitting in my bank waiting for a chance to be used. Am I going to have to Salvage/Junk it like some many of your other “rewards” or will it actually be usable at some point? Thanks for the skin but as gear its worthless.
