(edited by Kingfisher.7213)
I listen to the in game music.
Don’t remember hearing any in WvWvW or sPvP, but that’s probably just the adrenaline blocking it out.
In PvE, the music seems relaxing most of the time.
But what I really like to do is launch the game, and leave it at the character screen, then come to the forums.
The music give the Guild Wars 2 forums a more epic feel.
Also, don’t forget the conversion to their metric system gives them an unfair advantage:
e.g. 1 of our inches equals 2.54 of their centimeters
How is that fair?
It’s neither from the books nor GW1, it was created for this content update. I highly doubt we will get an in-universe explanation on why it suddenly appeared, you are supposed to acknowledge it like it was always there. That’s called suspension of disbelief.
Thanks for the lore check, it was appreciated.
The location of Cragstead threw me, as it was a strange place to suddenly add this giant settlement, given how much we trafficked the area for this event.
Then saying it had always been there had me wondering if I had suffered from snow blindness all this time.
I can suspend disbelief.
After all, I play an Engineer, where I can throw a grenade with my arm (range = 1200) further than I can shoot a bullet from a pistol (range = 900).
Thanks again :)
Based on lore it was always supposed to be there yes.
Interesting, thanks for the information.
Is this previously established lore from a book, or the original Guild Wars?
I tried googling this place, and checking the GW2 Wiki. The Wiki has no background on it besides saying it is an instance for this event.
Hope it’s not a situation like it is lore because this new guy Braham said he is from there, and since he said it, it is now lore.
The veil of the spirits been lifted, perhaps?
It seemed to show up alongside the invasion portals attacking the nearby homestead, so around the second part of the story arc.
I like the veil of the spirits idea.
But that’s just us trying to reconcile a mini-city showing up out of nowhere.
Is there anything in the game or lore which explains where this place comes from?
Because, from a story/immersion point of view, it was really jarring to see this giant settlement pop out of nowhere.
Something that massive would take a lot of time to build (more than the amount of time we’ve been doing this event). And Braham said he was born there.
You’d need something like magical veil to help explain why the Norn refugees set up ragged camps on the road, rather than seek the safety among their brethren in fortified Cragstead (just a few steps up a hill).
Because when Braham says he was born there, like it’s been there forever, I remember giving him a weary look which comes about from thinking:
“Son, I’m the Savior of Tyria. I’ve travelled these lands many a time.
I’ve protected your people time and again from the Claw of Jormag.
I’ve tended to your injured as they fled the Molten Alliance, in camps a stone’s throw from here, and never saw this place.
I know these parts. Don’t go telling me it was always here."
I picked up a new piece of Living Story and went to Wayfarer Foothills to help the Norn Braham.
When I went there, I was amazed to see a brand new mini-city called Cragstead near the Dolyak Pass Waypoint.
Where did this place come from?
Braham mentioned he grew up there, so I take it to mean it has been there a long time (he said he lived there since an infant).
The problem is that I’ve spent time in Wayfarer Foothills, and know the area near Dolyak Pass Waypoint pretty well.
When I was a young adventerous Asura, I passed through there exploring the lands of the Norn.
Later, in their times of trouble, I helped Norn refugees streaming into that area, and fought off Molten Alliance invaders there as well… but never saw Cragstead.
I could understand if this was some nomadic settlement, and they set up a temporary camp there, but Cragstead looks pretty big and permanent.
So was Cragstead always supposed to have been there?
I did Rox’s instance twice yesterday and both times the instance worked as intended. I got credit and the major reward the first time and the second time got the lesser reward for redoing the instance.
The door to leave the instance appeared above the map as well. So no WP costs.
Must have been a glitch.
Good to hear, thanks for the update.
I got credit for both instances the other day, but saw no exit points (nor the exit door icon near the map).
Log out, save yourself the WP cost.
Glad I read your post before I entered these instances, it prevented confusion and frustration.
(edited by Kingfisher.7213)
I went there a couple of days ago.
The Consortium mentioned they were building this swell housing for the Flame and Frost refugees in Southsun Cove.
I liked the ideas of refugees sunning themselves on that nice beachfront location after all they’ve been through.
I thought I’d check it out, and saw no such construction.
Instead, I saw a beast ridden deathtrap… viscious barracudas in the waters, ravenous skelks patrolling the shores, and hellish karka waiting to claw/pinch you to shreds.
Beware the Consortium, they are a bunch of liars.
As kitanas mentioned, you can still find the belt and compass.
The order they are found doesn’t matter, but you can only find each item once.
So if you go to a dirt/snow covered object, and it has an item you’ve already found, it won’t let you dig it up again. You’ll have to go look for another dirt/snow covered object.
As to finding them, go to Diessa Plateau and Wayfarer foothills. ArenaNet releases the items in pairs (one in each zone).
People should be asking in /m where they are every few minutes, or you can ask.
You can also use external websites, like dulfy.net. Here is what they have for the 6 Lost and Found achievement items:
http://dulfy.net/2013/02/26/gw2-lost-and-found-living-story-event-and-achievement-guide/
Good luck, hope you find your last 2 items.
Was there a title to be gained at the end of your hunt? Like at the end of the first part we got a new title “Volunteer” to display.
No extra title.
I just finished “Lost and Found” (6 Refugee Possessions) and “Gathering Storm” (150 invaders) achievements.
I changed zones and re-logged just to see if it made a difference, like when we got the Refugee Child’s Drawing.
I just have the “Volunteer” title from before.
Thanks for the heads up, I’ve been checking dulfy.net for updates and was going to check later tonight.
Did you also get the achievement for killing 150 dredge and flame legion enemies?
I’m curious because maybe there is a reward for doing both, like when we got the Refugee Child’s Drawing.
If you did both, I wouldn’t expect to get some credit/recognition for finding these items (beyond the achievement).
The reason is ArenaNet already put recognition for our work before, i.e. that Refugee Child’s Drawing.
Their manpower might have been light to support this event, but they made one reward. I can’t see them forgetting to add another.
A couple of months ago, ArenaNet mentioned they know about the bug in viewing the Personal Story chapters, and would fix it later:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/story/Can-t-read-my-personal-story/first#post1512922
It’s a known bug—the personal journal will cut off at a certain point. No ETA on a fix (it’s a code issue, not something I can fix myself.)
I don’t know if they tried to fix it since.
The reason is that about a month ago, whenever I looked at the entries to my Personal Story, it now defaulted to showing the last chapter.
I could never see the last chapter before, so I wonder if they tried to fix it but didn’t quite get it right.
Your mother’s IQ is so low, when a friend asked her how much Ascended gear she had, she replied she had a Stairmaster.
(hint for non-Asura: think about what two words “Ascended” sounds like)
Your mother’s IQ is so low, when a friend invited her to do Fractals, she asked for a calculator.
It is trivial to establish which college is superior.
Statics is simply Dynamics taking a rest, therefore:
- College of Statics < College of Dynamics
Synergetics reveals the Eternal Alchemy (the dynamics of the cosmos… not small scale dynamics like the other college studies, but of all existence) therefore:
- College of Dynamics < College of Synergetics
Since we previously established that the College of Statics < College of Dynamics, we can make use of the Transitive Property to establish that:
- College of Statics < College of Dynamics < College of Synergetics
So, to sum up… rest, cosmos, SYNERGETICS.

How nice of them. How does someone find out about this in game? Just by stumbling into them on Southsun?
There is a camp near Lion’s Arch where the important refugees collect themselves.
You have to interact with the consortium agent there. No reason to, gamewise, but you can interact and get flavor text explaining what they’re doing.
Oh ok, I misunderstood.
Your title mentioned gw2 in the media, so I was looking there, and at reviews and interviews in gaming websites.
I’ve seen people complaining about Guild Wars 2 in gaming forums since the beginning.
Can’t say I’ve seen it get worse lately.
However, I have seen it spike a few times, for various triggers such as the introduction of Ascended gear, diminishing returns, etc.
I have faith that this game will find its footing.
This is ArenaNet’s first MMO, so they are going through growing pains as they transition from a game maker to a game maintainer.
I haven’t seen waves of negative articles. I have seen a couple of tough questions asked though, and not always recently.
Near game launch, back in September, Massively basically asked Regina Buenaobra, whether they didn’t launch the forums with the game in order to hide negative feedback (choosing to use Reddit instead):
(Question) ArenaNet has been using Reddit to communicate important information to the community and create a dialogue between players while the official forums are offline, but more than one of our commenters and writers have expressed distaste for the medium, and the Reddit crowd is particularly friendly to GW2. The truth is, the vast majority of players would never think to visit Reddit for an explanation on why they were banned from GW2 or what the ETA for the trading post is. So why does ArenaNet continue to disseminate information over Reddit instead of its own website or a long-established fan gathering spot like Guild Wars Guru?
(Question) Presumably, the forums are down in relation to other outages across the Guild Wars 2 website and game. While the outage makes sense, it’s caused many of our readers to assume that ArenaNet is simply trying to prevent a mob of angry players from descending upon the forums. Has the staff made it a priority to get those forums back up so they can be used rather than third-party communication tools?
There was a more recent interview at the end of February, where DigitalSpy asked Colin Johanson about ArenaNet’s game launch having “addled servers” (but they prefaced that by mentioning most MMOs do):
(Question) Like most MMOs, Guild Wars 2 was addled by server problems at launch. Is this something you were fully prepared for?
I haven’t seen anything particularly negative. Those were 3 of the toughest questions I’ve seen in Guild Wars 2 interviews so far.
Not really a wave of bad press.
Yeah, Arah still breaks down occasionally in this spot.
Not sure what they can do, ArenaNet’s Content Designer Robert Hrouda has asked us for information before, but can’t seem to fix it.
Since it happens in the same spot so often, maybe they can make a giant cutscene after the fight which breaks the dungeon.
Right now, I think it is:
fight —> cutscene --> player loots chest —> cutscene (or dungeon breaks)
Maybe they can do:
fight —> autoloot --> giant cutscene —> port player to next part
Unfortunately, it looks like you have to try again and hope the dungeon gets reset.
Try the next day. I tried resetting the dungeon the same day, but the dungeon broke in the same spot.
Or you might have better luck trying this on another server, as their version of the dungeon might be functional.
http://www.gw2lfg.com/ would be a good place to look for an Arah group.
Good luck, hope you get it finished.
(edited by Kingfisher.7213)
I found a big ol’ Norn named a variation of ‘The Incredible Hulk’.
Not my pic, but I think it’s him.
That’s pretty cool!
I finished whole stage 2 with dulfy.ney help in less than an hour today. Do not get OP point at all.
The OP is mentioning that this event isn’t fun or epic.
Honestly I don’t find it very fun either, because of the very odd pacing, and lack of meaningful actions we have in this story.
Without dulfy’s website, I wouldn’t have bothered finding any of the items.
There are refugees fleeing for their lives, and the best we can do is find a drunk dude’s drinking cup, or someone’s belt? Not a very epic story I’m participating in.
I’m not interested in randomly running around a zone in the hopes of finding stuff like that. Thank the Gods for that website.
I would have liked the ability to use our crafting abilities to help the refugees.
Chefs could help feed, Tailors/Leatherworkers could help clothe, Weaponsmiths could help re-arm them, etc. It could have even been tied into our dailies.
Also, the pacing is way too slow.
I think ArenaNet didn’t have the manpower to properly support this event, so they tried to justify this meagerness, by calling these 2 months of stories/events “teasers”.
So not really story… so much as… getting… (let me tell you next month)… our attention.
It doesn’t make for great storytelling. They should have the proper manpower in place to support something, rather than stall by saying they are giving teasers.
To back up my belief, here is ArenaNet’s Angel McCoy mentioning how the story will speed up as they get more manpower:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/living-story-evolution/
“These first couple months of teaser content have allowed us to ramp up to make the long-term Living Story an even fuller and more satisfying experience for you all. As designers have come off other projects and joined us, we’ve increased the amount of content we’ll be delivering, starting at the end of March.”
Your mother’s IQ is so low, she refuses to take an IQ test, because she really hates getting grossed out.
(hint for non-Asura – sound out “IQ”)
(edited by Kingfisher.7213)
Thanks for the updated information dulfy (and for your website as well).
Lots of useful information there, it really helped me keep track of all the information taking place in this Frost and Flame event.
Why this event is so secret I can’t figure out. The heralds in LA send me to Wayfarer and Diessa and those people have nothing to say about ‘missing’ items like a compass or a belt.
Maybe the refugees are in shock.
I remember speaking to dozens of them on the roads, as I fixed signs and returned momentos… not a single one could tell me what they were running from.
If they couldn’t tell me what was killing them, I can see how they wouldn’t tell us about useless items like a drunk dude’s drinking cup, belt, etc.
Very nice website, thanks for making that Argos!
Also, about a month ago, ArenaNet’s Game Director Colin Johanson mentioned they would try to roll out this solution to other parts of the game:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Culling-affects-PvE-too
We’ll be evaluating the culling system fixes we do for WvW, and applying as many of them as make sense as possible to all parts of the game absolutely.
ArenaNet’s Gameplay Programmer Habib Loew has communicated a lot on culling. However, it is on the World vs World subforum, so many people probably aren’t seeing it.
Below is an example from a couple of months ago.
Reading that post and others by Habib, I have faith they can address culling to give us an improved gameplay experience.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/wuvwuv/Update-on-Culling/first
Thank you, Grit, for posting that link. It points to a post in which I describe the culling issue in some detail and discuss a few of the issues involved with changing culling. An even more in depth explanation of what culling is can be found here https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/wuvwuv/The-real-problem-here-is-invisible-enemies-Give-their-algorithms-time-to-match-servers-properly/page/4#post356817 (be sure to read both that post and the next – my description exceeded the post size limit).
As you know we’ve been working on this problem for a while but what I think we haven’t ever said before is that our goal is to remove culling completely from WvW. In order to remove culling completely we have to address three issues:
1) Bandwidth out of our servers/datacenter (traffic would increase without culling)
2) Bandwidth in to each client (traffic to each client would also increase without culling)
3) Client performance issues related to rendering (potentially) all the players on a map at once. (Note that we base our performance requirements in this case on min-spec clients. We don’t want to stop anybody being able to play the game after all.)Until all three of those issues have been dealt with we can’t turn culling off because doing so would cause something to break or perform poorly.
Ok, now let’s talk about what progress we’ve made!
Issue #1 was the easiest to deal with because we can basically just throw money at the problem. When we first started down the road toward removing culling from WvW I took a bunch of bandwidth measurements and then went to the executives and said, essentially, “Hey, if we disable culling our network traffic will increase by X%. Are we ok with that?”. The answer I got was a clear and unambiguous “yes!” So issue #1 isn’t a problem after all.
Issue #2 is a little harder. We need to ensure that folks with a min-spec network connection won’t be overwhelmed by the data we send them and we obviously can’t just buy a better connection for all of our players. So we put our heads together and came up with a plan to reduce the bandwidth required for WvW (and Gw2 in general) as much as possible. Those changes are in testing now and will be rolled out as soon as we’re convinced that they’re solid. Assuming we’re able to get everything working the way we’d like (and I’m fairly confident that we will) then this will address issue #2.
So that leaves us with issue #3: client performance. Some time ago the WvW team acquired an engine programmer who is focused 100% on this issue (and he is being assisted by another engine programmer who isn’t officially on the WvW team). They’re working on some really fantastic optimizations and engine modifications which we hope will allow even min-spec clients to render all the players on a WvW map. We’ll be talking in more detail about the specific changes they’re making when things get just a little more nailed down, but I can say right now that I’m very impressed with the work they’ve done already.
So that’s where we are. Engine programmers are working their magic even now and we’re testing the networking changes that will be required. I believe that our goal of removing culling from WvW is achievable and I’m looking forward to the day that I can announce to you all that we’ve pulled it off!
I think ArenaNet is still learning how to tell an unfolding story in an MMO.
The Lost Shores event taught them the downsides of telling the story too quickly.
The Living Story will teach them the downsides of telling the story too slowly.
Do you know of anything that most people don’t know about?
Or how about anything that NObody knows about?
I’m dying for a mystery to solve. After the Final Rest fiasco, I have a hole that needs to be filled.
Your thread title asks if there are any secrets left in this game, like you’ve found them all.
It might be easier if you list out what secrets you know about. Then we can add any that are new.
Seems like the point of dailies is to get you logged in and give you a ‘seed’ of ideas of what you might want to do with your guild and friends, right?
…This actually discourages people because instead of doing WvW or a dungeon with their guild they say “Well, I have to finish my dailies instead…”
Dailies are designed so they could be completed solo.
However, you are free to group up with guild members at any time to complete the dailies.
If you want group activities that encourage guild play, ArenaNet added Guild Missions for that specific purpose. I don’t know if it will grow to include SPvP/WvWvW options, but right now it is PvE centric:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/leah-rivera-on-new-guild-missions/
“Our team’s primary goal was to create a solid foundation to support PvE guild play. We wanted to create a feature that provided guild members with fun things to do together now, and could be expanded to support new styles of content in the future. To do that, we’ve created a system with three key features: guild missions, guild merits and an expanded unlock system.”
Now if you mean the dailies don’t feel like they accomplish anything, because they are random activities, I would agree with you.
In other MMO’s, dailies are often tied to some faction, where you are performing activities which further their cause.
They benefit from your help, and you benefit from the reputation you gain from them (allowing you to buy gear, mounts, etc).
A player’s desire to help a faction makes them willing to play in a specific area doing specific things.
We might not have the same sense of accomplishment which comes from doing our dailies, but it is a tradeoff for having the ability to accomplish the dailies from our own chosen style of play.
hard to say, when guild wars 2 came out I heard that legendary weapons will always be scaled with new weapons added later to make sure they stay at the top. no idea if this is true or changed (anyone able to confirm?)
ArenaNet’s Lindsey Murdock mentioned they want Legendaries to be “on par” with the best gear.
Here is what Lindsey said in one of their news releases back in November:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/linsey-murdock-unveils-new-high-end-ascended-gear/
“You’ll also see more Legendary items in the future and an update to our existing Legendary weapons. Legendary items were always intended to be on par with other “best-in-slot” items. So fear not, all existing Legendary weapons, which are currently on par with Exotics, will be upgraded to be on par with Ascended weapons at the same time that we add Ascended weapons to the game. Thus Legendaries will remain “best-in-slot” items. All Legendary items going forward will be of Ascended power.”
Still the range makes no sense (even saw a throw from 1 side to the other pretty much now).
As an Engineer, I can throw a grenade with my arm (range =1200) further than I can shoot a bullet from my rifle (range = 900).
How in teh kitten does that make sense?
For that matter, in Arah, why do I need to board a chopper to fly to the next part of the dungeon, when I'm already flying in an airship?
After living with those realities, I’d be confused if we couldn’t toss kegs across a field.
Danikat beat me to it with the manual upload method.
I was looking around and found a post from near game launch where ArenaNet said they disabled image embedding feature.
ArenaNet said the image BBCode was disabled so they didn’t waste time monitoring their size and content.
Not sure why the BBCodes for subcripts and superscripts don’t work. Maybe they disabled more than they realized.
Here is the link, and what they had to say:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/forum/Textile-BB-Code
In-line image posting from external sources is disabled on this forum. You are able to attach an image or text file (for crash reports and dxdiags) to your post by clicking on “more posting and formatting options” and clicking “choose file” under “attachments”.
Oh ok, didn’t get you checked there from your post.
Kinda funny their FAQ says the Textile editor works well with BBCodes, but the 2 we tried don’t work.
I don’t know another way, hopefully someone else might jump in and share their knowledge.
The only other thing I can think of is to download the image to your desktop and then upload it from there.
When you are first writing a post, click on the “More posting and formatting options”. That lets you browse for a file location on your computer.
Just select the photobucket image you downloaded earlier.
It’s a lot of hoops, but should work.
Here is a link to the different things we can do to format and embed things into our posts:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/faq/
The link above mentions you can use the BBCode [img] [/img]to embed images.
See if it works. Just surround your photobucket URL with those tags.
I tried using the BBCode for subscripts and it didn’t seem to work.
For example, H[sub]2[/sub]O
Hopefully, the one for images will.
As long as it picks up later. These teeny tiny little unexciting/uninformative bits don’t qualify as story; more like tone-setting.
Hopefully the reason for the lack of story-meat is because they’re working on the main stuff now and just doing really small things to set us up in the meantime.
According to ArenaNet, it will pick up.
They are calling these past two months of storytelling “teasers”.
So not really story… so much as… getting… (let me tell you next month)… our attention.
They mention they aren’t really telling the story in full force yet, but will at the and of March:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/living-story-evolution/
“These first couple months of teaser content have allowed us to ramp up to make the long-term Living Story an even fuller and more satisfying experience for you all. As designers have come off other projects and joined us, we’ve increased the amount of content we’ll be delivering, starting at the end of March.”
I’m glad things will speed up, because I personally don’t like the pace of these teasers.
A month between story elements is odd pacing given how little we can meaningfully do in the story so far.
I’ve never seen an MMO tell a story this slowly, but am curious to see how they develop/implement their concept.
However, from their comments above, it looks like they needed time to accumulate the manpower to support this story going forward.
Just say something like:
Hey mouthbreather! Yeah you. Quit wasting all the oxygen here trying to talk.
At least make those sounds coming from your mouth useful. Go talk to that plant over there, it could use the CO2.
I don’t know what expansions they’ve played, but this is hype at best. This is not expansion worth of depth and systems.
From his response earlier, it sounded like a Marketing driven idea to say those things:
Saying something like “expansions worth of content” means different things to everyone, and is nearly an impossible goal to meet expectation wise since everything expects something different, which is a big part of why marketing stepped away from that plan very quickly after asking us to use it when speaking to the press/fans.
It doesn’t sound to me like he agreed with their idea.
I agree 100%.
I love their artwork, it really keeps me coming back to this game. Their artists should be really proud of what they accomplished here.
That last part luckily didn’t happen.
I don’t remember seeing Trahearne following me anywhere in Arah. I did see him for the last part of the Personal Story away from the celebration. And my character convinced him to come join the celebration.
The final fight with the game’s main antagonist was pretty mild, but I enjoyed the Personal Story.
I didn’t like certain things in it stylistically, and I didn’t like the continuity errors, but overall, found it to be a great addition to the game.
I think a lot of what you are experiencing comes from dealing with a company which lacks experience.
This is ArenaNet’s first MMO, and their lack of experience in running one shows.
Warcraft had similar problems as they grew their MMO and learned some lessons the hard way.
Unfortunately, ArenaNet doesn’t seem to have a deep grasp of MMO history and is recreating classic mistakes.
I think they can recover from them, but it will be bumpy ride for us as they figure things out.
Here is a video back from 2007 where Warcraft’s founder talks about their mistakes and lessons learned:
http://www.gdcvault.com/play/5/How-to-Rule-the-World
- 17:25 – Dangers of Releasing a Game too early
- 39:40 – Process to Communicate with Players about Problems
- 43:50 – Importance of Testing
- 44:45 – Importance of Public Test Realm
That happens every now and then.
Not sure what the fix is.
I’ve been in a group that glitched at that spot and we tried resetting the instance… it didn’t work. We started all over and it broke down in the same spot.
Maybe try on another server?
I think the instances are housed on your home server, so if it isn’t working there, you might have better luck elsewhere until your server’s dungeon gets fixed/naturally resets.
Good luck, hope you find a working one.
Curious to find out if the fix to culling is due to ArenaNet finding a breakthrough to optimizing their code and hardware, or if they are simply adding new tech/more capacity to handle more players and their interactions.
Either way, it will be good to see it go away. It was starting to feel like a low budget MMO. Actually, I haven’t seen culling this bad in even f2p MMOs.
After finding out that our conditions are being capped partly because of how expensive it was to keep track of, I wonder if culling was because they were too cheap in their bandwidth allocations.
For reference, here’s the comment on conditions being too expensive for them:
(Question) "There’s a cap on condition stacks of 25. In a scenario where you have two thieves attacking a boss and one of them can achieve a stack of 25 by themselves, the other one essentially becomes useless because they’ve got nothing to stack on. Is anything being done to address that to make them less redundant?
Colin: Currently no. Interesting statistic for you: every condition in the game costs server bandwidth. ‘Cause we have to track how often the condition is running, what the duration of that condition is and what the stack is. So the more stacks we allow them more expensive it gets because we’re tracking every additional stack on there. And so we could, say, you can have infinite stacks. Number one: that becomes really unbalanced. But number two: it’s actually extremely expensive for us, on a performance basis. That’s one of those weird, kind of back-end server issues that can help make game designer decisions regardless of what you want to do with it.
It’s a bug. They happen.
Why does every unfortunate event in this game translate to ArenaNet being a group of devils whose only love in life is making people’s lives miserable?
Because they do
I don’t think so. This is their first MMO and their inexperience is showing.
They’ll figure things out, it will just take them some time.
There was a similar thread in the Bug Forums. ArenaNet mentioned they were currently looking into it:
ArenaNet mentioned they are working on a dungeon finder about 3 weeks ago:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/It-s-time-for-a-group-finder/first#post1384841
“We are working on it, and hope to have it out as soon as we can.”
To follow up, here is what ArenaNet said about those lost items (initially, there are 2). I highlighted the relevant part below:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/New-Living-Story-Achievements
You should have received an in-game mail directing you to the areas which you need to explore: Wayfarer Foothills and Diessa Plateau.
You should see a refugee camp in Lion’s Arch, near the Farshore Waypoint. By speaking to the refugees, you will discover that they’ve lost some items on their journey to Lion’s Arch. You can help them out by finding these lost items. Initially, you will see two refugees. When further phases of the event unlock, and the refugee area in Lion’s Arch grows in size, you will find new people to talk to who may also be missing items.
You will find the lost items in areas where the new Living Story events are spawning in the world, usually near the invader portals or invader vehicles. Note: in the event of a new build or server restart, the locations for the lost items may change.
So you shouldn’t be turning in the same 2 items repeatedly to get the achivement. You should only be able to turn in each unique lost item once.
I think there are just two items we can find right now.
The others should become available to find as the story progresses.
I disagree. We need about 16 more currencies before I can take this game seriously. I’ve always wanted to know what Bourne felt like with a backpack full of random foreign currency. Don’t take my dream away from me.
Man, I never thought of it like this before.
Such positive thinking…way to turn those lemons into lemonade!
In the Suggestion Forum, someone asked ArenaNet if they could do something to manage all the currencies we have.
ArenaNet acknowledged they have a problem with having too many types:

You’re right that we do have a lot of currencies. We certainly know we could improve the experience here
Unfortunately, I don’t know if that will translate into a currency tab or a streamlining of how many currencies we need to manage.
I had to have been on the same event as Egon, just downed Shatterer on Tarnished Coast about an hour ago.
Worst game choppiness I’ve seen at one of these dragon events (in the game so far actually). These events have always run smoothly for me.
I normally run on higher settings, and keep at 50-60fps, but was getting about 20fps this time.
Very choppy movements and I spent about 10 seconds simply trying to target Shatterer so I could try dealing damage.
I only went because a guild member was playing on a laptop and got stuck zoning in to Tequatl. He was frozen at the waypoint a long time as the map tried rendering. He finally got to dragon, place looked empty, then suddenly saw everything already dead.
I wanted to see if I could notice performance issues, at a similarly sized event, on my more powerful desktop. It was definitely noticeable.
