I main warrior. ArenaNet has been massively incompetent over the years in so many areas/classes, and for long periods of time, warrior has been very strong/too strong. Ori doesn’t need to make an argument because the overwhelming inaccuracy of “nobody is treated as poorly as warrior” is hilarious.

Warrior is certainly in a horrid spot, but come on, ArenaNet treats most classes with complete ineptitude at random. I think the real hilarious bit is how awful warrior was already before that berserker nerf.

If we come across a guardian, they have a stability upkeep of 100%, occassionally with blocks, we dead.

Last time I checked, the guardian had access to 4 seconds of stability every 55 seconds. or 8 seconds every 87 seconds with renewed focus.
If we come across a warrior and he hits bulls charge, we dead.

Outplayed by weakness

Necromancers and Druids are the biggest offenders when it comes to weakness application. Reapers get it on shroud and druids when they are attacked (in a 240 radius). So you can just bait these out as they are both meele. So long as you are not in meele range these will not be applied.

Of course there are more applications of this, especially in teamfights. But then again, theres an abundance of random condi clears there too so it evens out.
Just comes down to learning what applies weakness and what doesnt.

Every build that is capable of bursting between the blocks while sustaining the DHs pressure.

… or simply unblockable bursts.

Constant mediocre damage won’t kill a DH. Its damage/block/heal rotation is too strong.

This makes the class hard to play against for newbies as they lack any sense for counterpressure timing (or even worse, they just stand still in traps).

There is no hard counter for a class that can at the same time:
- do both ranged and melee pressure
- chain cc and pull targets
- close the gap with teleport Ciri-style skills
- ignore the first cc and get stability boon
- block attacks and get aegis procs
- easly out-burst most classes
- access an unblockable ranged cc skill
- delay the fight with elite and its reset
- kite most classes with its mobility
- out sustain most other dps builds
- remove conditions multiple times
- proc both offensive and defensive boons
- something else? Yeah, also group utility.

DH is one of the remains of the HoT elites mess…

Druids and Scrappers hard counters DH’s. Tempests greatly restricts the amount of teamfight damage they can put out. Heralds have a favorable match-up against DH’s.
They cant survive thief +1s. The only instant cast stunbreak is also their only (not counting sword 2 or f2) mobility.

So, outrotating. Scrappers, Druids, Tempests and Heralds. Even Daredevil +1s.

Note: S/D condi thief will win 1v1 given enough time.

Apparently placements doesnt count leavers. Had a fantastic 3v5 game from start to finish that still counted towards a loss.

The game still shows as a loss in the UI but your rating is unaffected.

I did get an extra loss on the placement UI and it did count towards the 10 games.

In the 4 games that I’ve played;

Necro running straight from spawn (at the start of the game) wait 2.5 minute for beast and fail to solo it. (Yes 2.5 minutes.)
People triple capping the home-node at the start of the game.
Thief running Signet of Shadows + Shadow Refuge.
Thief asking how to change his weapons.
Elementalist asking Scrapper to reroll to a “meta class”.

I ended last season on legendary rating.

I can usually kill a DH, (on a vanilla PU Mesmer.) It just takes an annoyingly long time and I’ll probably get +1’d before I can finish him.

DH are annoying rather than OP.

It’s roughly the same against a bunker ele. Though, the bunker Ele does very little damage in exchange for all the tanking power.

Oh how the tides have turned. I will always cherrish the patch when PU got buffed to 100% invis duration and 95% of everyone in pvp played Mantra PU shatter.

I had this issue about a month ago, as soon as I entered a pvp game my ping jumped to anywhere between 400 and 2000.

Im sitting on a 1Gbit dual way fibre line so that shouldn’t have been an issue.
I looked around for solutions and I actually came up with one that worked for me. Go into “Run” Services.msc and disable the automatic windows updater. This is what consumed about 80% of my CPU and RAM whenever I entered the pvp ips. For whatever reason.

Why do elite spec icons not show in sPvP games, sometimes i approach a fight completely wrong because i think a guardian is a dragonhunter or a ranger a druid, it would be helpful to instantly know what i was up against.

Some tips for quickly spotting is;

Guardian Virtues
Warrior Signet of Rage / Swift Might Fury boons
Thief dodges
Revenant facets
Engi gyro by his side
Necro Shroud symbol

Aswell as the obvious weapons they are using aswell as traits (Ancient Seeds) and whatnot.

Considering you’re only talking about support classes, that’s what I’ll go in to.

Ele is still by far the strongest teamfight support. Through reflects, auras, protection and heals they outshine Engis and Druids.

Engineer is probably the best of the three as a 1v1 class. You can still support in teamfights through blasting fields aswell as peeling for them with either invis or superspeed.

I would consider druids the best support for small scale fights. They drop off drastically in 4v4s and 5v5s but truly shines in 2v2s. They can hold their own in most 1v1s but lack killing potential.

Other honorable mentions might be Symbolic Mender guardian. Through heal ticks and counterpressure coupled with aegis, they actually grant more sustain to the team than most people think.

So here it is:

In my little world roles are like this when it comes to spvp: roamers (thief, mesmer, rev), supporters (ele, druid, engie, ventari rev), and team fighters – who can deal great dmg but only work well with support classes (necro, war and maybe guard).

So I am looking for classes/builds for the 3rd category.

Okay, Ill give it another shot.

Dragonhunter, being my main class has alot of glaring weaknesses but also alot of strengths. Currently playing a Shattered Aegis symbol builds. It has alot of 1v1 potential and an absurd amount of damage in teamfights. (Usually hits ^mil dmg in most games.) Lacks kill potential though.
The Longbow “Meditrap” build is still viable and probably the stronger of the two builds. It has a few very weak 1v1 match-ups though.

Warriors are probably the best “noobstomper” class in low tiers as it’s very unforgiving to fight. It’s alot harder to play than last season due to how easy you’re being kited without pulsing stability.

Necromancer; I would not pick up Necromancer if you are only solo queing. Seasoned Necro players can obviously pull it off to some extent but I would advice against it.

Obviously you should play whatever you feel like but heres my take on the matter.

one thing I would love to see is some footage of this ranked season , can’t find any streams/vods of people playing DH . hell it’s even a rare commodity when I’m playing .
on the topic tho ,I played meditrapper till 1400 rating EU ,then it just feels like I’m getting outhealed/sustained and dying to +1’s , can’t really outdps engis or even good eles to some extent . warriors/rev/necro , I can deal with in moderate timing .
gonna try the burn build though and any tips are appreciated (videos hopefully from peeps here )

In most of my games this season (~15/20) Ive been running with Sayians Shattered Aegis build. I would really recommend you trying it out if you feel you’re getting outsustained. There is absolutly no way you’ll ever lose to Scrappers / Druids or basicly anything thats not a warrior in 1v1.

You will maintain perma Retaliation which will be your main source of sustain in low-scale fights due to preassuring your opponent out. I’m duoing with a Druid this season and been winning 2v3s vs “high rated people” (top 30 EU).

You’ll also sustain quite well in 1v2’s and should be able to kite off point fairly easy depening on maps.

I will probably be sticking with the old Sword / Shield – Longbow build from last season. Even though the 6 sec cd trueshot feels clunky I feel like it still achieves what it is supposed to.
Ive been trying Saiyans Aegis symbolic build and I’ve been enjoying it, but it’s the same issue as with all symbol builds. It just doesn’t do anything. You’ll never get a kill using it do to having no chase potential and for just a point contester, there are better classes out there. Even for teamfighting, I’d take LB for the burst potential.

I have to say though, a well-timed shield 4 is one of the most satisfying moments Ive had since the old mediguard one shot moments.

[PvP] Symbolic Zealer Burst build

Ive tried the build ~20 games now and I actually like it.
Some backstory; I never really liked the playstyle of symbol Guard. I’ve always found it super stale and un-interactive. This build however puts a spin on it with Shattered Aegis.

The 1v1 capabilities of the build is actually not bad at all due to the ridiculous retal uptime. (Perma) Along with covering your boons with CoF. This build completly destroyes the Sword/Dagger druid meta build. Which is a nice change of pace considering they like to push us in 1v1s. So far, the weakest 1v1 seem to be vs high shroud condi nec and Scrapper.

The teamfight of this build is not bad either, people tend to underestimate the dmg of the symbols. Especially on marauder gear. It’s not at all unusual that I end the game 1mil dmg+.

What this build lacks compared to medibow is the kill potential. No one should ever die to this build. You have little to no gap close, little to no burst and very little crowd controll. Most classes can just reset or straight up leave if they feel they are getting pressured out.
This build is also abyssmal to thief +1s.

As for runes, Ive settled on Surging. The extra CC after Renewed helps us cycle the cooldowns a bit smoother. I also went with the trap heal, for the most part. I just dont feel like Littany grants enough outside of teamfights.

I just listed the static nodes, excluding Bitterfrost Frontier.
Also, Coral spawns only in deep water areas, meaning only a handful of maps can spawn them and even fewer have static spawns. Couple this with the abyssmal droprate of them, well. Im gonna need that luck.

So, I’m in the middle of crafting The Legend and I’m currently on Vol. 3. One of the materials I need are; Vials of Manganese Dioxide which are a RARE drop from corals.

I’ve been harvesting the garanteed 4 nodes in Mount Malestrom on 9 characters daily for 10 days + 3 in Cursed Shore 3 in Ember Bay and 3 in Straits of Devestation on 9 Characters. This is just over 100 corals harvested and I’m up to 3 Salts.
Can you please, for the love of all thats holy increase the droprate OR increase the number of corals that spawns on any given map.

Considering Im 3/10 in I’ll need to harvest another ~450 corals.

I will +1 this. As someone that does almost daily Dungeon Tours I can verify that this is indeed one of the most annoying “features” of gw2. I already have about 90/160 bag slots occupied due to: Undead slaying weapons, all weapon combinations (for mightstacking) Harpy Feathers, Spy kits, Rocks, x12 slaying potions and different kinds of food. Not to mention 4 different kinds of sigils for the different dungeons.

Last thing I need is to merch the sigils (which isn’t a big deal for me cause of the perma merchant) but still more annoying than anything else.

Killing off 3 classes is NOT okay. The fact that you people don’t see that is just sad, its literally like i’m talking to a wall. If Anet feels the meta is too stale and boring, they can shake it up in a manner that does not kill 1/3 of the classes in the game. That is poor balance.

I’m out, there’s no reasoning with people that just never understood the meta because they are too busy in bronze running full traps, or dps eles.

I never said that killing classes is a good thing.
This balance patch is a very good beginning. The past 2 seasons were the most cancerous gameplay we’ve ever had since old d/d ele and the meta desperately needed change. You can’t expect balance to work on the first day. Balance is a living thing that has to be adjusted in small steps to reach perfection….which is why ANet’s balance cycle is perhaps the worst choise they could have ever made. But that still doesn’t make this a horrible patch.
All it would need now are at least monthly balancce updated that are just small tweaks.

Also what classes are exactly “dead”? Warriors, because they have the loudest forum whiners?

Or perhaps it’s that I am not so ignorant to instantly assume a class is dead because it lost some of it’s comfort.
With all the changes you simply can’t instantly tell what will be viable and what will not. It will take at least a week to see what is working how after this change.
There is also still a big difference between being subpar meta and outright being dead which you can not tell by looking at some patchnotes.
If you claim that you have the ability I can and will not discuss this any further.

It was one of the few classes “clinging” to the meta as it were, 1 ele just shut it down completly. Now having your damage AND sustain getting absolutly dumpstered, is the very defitniton of a “Dead class”.

Going to discuss the DH changes as it’s my main and the class I have the most insight into.

Good: Hunter’s Determination, these traits are un-skillful and boring. I’d rather they get rid of all of them.

Test of Faith, this was an incredibly high damage skill that needed to be toned down. Will still see use in the “meta” meditrap build.

Meh: Renewed Focus, this has always been the must-go elite for Guardians in PvP. Much like Mass Invis for mesmers pre HoT. I guess I can see the nerf in CD since most classes had hits to their sustain. Its fair.

Wings of Resolve, it’s fine. As other classes had their healing toned down I can see this happening. I would love for the healing to be shaved even further and trade it for an evade frame.

Bad: True Shot, increasing the cooldown of an already bad skill is just laughable. Not only is it a 3/4 second cast time and about 1/2 travel time. Its also reflectable and hits about as hard as the third autoattack in Thief dagger aa chain. It’s our ONLY reliable source of damage on the longbow (outside of Deflecting Shot → Test of Faith combo).

Shield of Courage, a frontal 3 second block on a 60 second cooldown. Compare this to Mesmer shield 4 (1.5/3 second block) on a 30 second cooldown or Warrior shield 5 (3 second (all angle) block on a 25 second cooldown. I get that if you commit an entire traitline to it, you also make it a stunbreak(with a casttime) which gives Protection and Stability.

Spear of Judgement, did we really need more ways to kill Thieves?

Smite Condition, a 21% shave of damage on this? Just why?

Conclussion. I get that Dragonhunter is the bane of low-tier players. But you’re absolutly BUTCHERING a class that has seen ZERO successful competetive play since Heart of Thorns was released. They have not won a single tournament game. Ever. This is the only class that has NEVER won a single high-tier tournament game. EVER.

Also, these changes carrying over to WvW where the only DH’s that even use LB are us roamers is a joke. You nerfed an already garbage roaming class.

Idk what you mean by “Unblockable skills NEEDS to be toned down.” Yeah sometimes when I get ganked on necro I think that necro needs defensive buffs. Then I take a deep breath and realize that the class is in a good place right now.

Thermite got in the top 10 this season playing DH. I believe Saiyan was around top 50, he was definitely inside top 30 during the season. The only “unblockable skill” that should be giving you any trouble is signet of might warrior. Just F2 away, kite, and once it’s over you can face the warrior. Learn to play the game instead of whining about how there are some counters to your class.

Yes and I got as high as 13 on the EU leaderboards as DH. Its not my point. I even listed DH abilities in my OP. The class is in a good place indeed, but it’s getting surpressed mainly because of eles. I do realise however that every class needs a counter.

But seeing as Blocks is Dragonhunters main form of damage mitigation compared to say, Druid Scrappers and Eles being healing. Revenant + Thief being Dodging and Warrior a good mix of everything I really hope its getting looked into. Having this huge amount of unblockables forces Dragonhunters into using the “Virtues” traitline with a traited F3 for the stab and stunbreak. DH’s are also forced into Valor (Both power and Condi) because thats where the offense is coming from. This leaves 1 “Free” traitline which is forced into Dragonhunter because core builds are a joke.

So all in all, since DH’s can’t rely on blocks. They’re pidgeonholed into picking the same three traitlines no matter the builds. Kinda like Eles and Warriors.

So, this has nothing to do about me not knowing my class nor me not being “high enough” on the leaderboard to merit responding too. This has everything to do with build variation.

You can have all your opinions, never did i state otherwise. However you want to change balance of certain things that are not applied on the “decent players” and the good players. If we want to balance the game around bronze player material lets go.

The only thing i imply in my first post is that a player (who thinks he decent) wants balance X which in theory is wrong in the semi decent tier/high tier of pvp.

So, let me get this straight. Do you consider DH’s to be in a good spot right now?
Also, you’re telling me that Season 5 was a dead season? Not only are you delusional you’re straight up ignorant. Ill send you a VoD of me beating Sindrener + Helseth duo queue if you want. (If they’re good enough players compared to you)

“Dh become competitive” plays dh himself mid tier plat player in dead season. GGs

I didn’t state I was a proleague player, niether am I a “low tier player”. I was top 250 the previous season, which was competetive and the last season I didnt have enough games played to even get settled.

Either way, you’re delusional if you think DH is anywhere near top-tier or competetive atm. DH can easily stomp its way up the ladder until you hit ~plat. After that when people actually roll Ele, if the team is lacking and people actually rotate around the map. Dragonhunters just can’t keep up.

What I'd like to see in patch

I’m composing a list of changes I’d like to see in the patch, both Balance and Reward-wise.

Most importantly, Unblockable skills NEEDS to be toned down. Everything from Basilisk Venom, to Signet of Might, Deflecting Shot, Marks and Takedown. Tone down blocks aswell if it’s needed. But the fact that literally 30% of all attacks are unblockable right now is astounding.
Warriors, tone down the passive defense as well as tuning its offense down slightly. Right now, warriors are way too strong. Everything from Adrenal Health to Arc Divider and Skull Cracker.
What I’d do to tone this down is; Reduce the radius of Arc Divider to 300.
Remove the Blind and Cripple off of Skull Cracker.
Made Primal Burst skills count as Tier 1 Adrenaline skills.
This forces warriors to actually think when they enter Berserk Mode and try and hit the skills in order to proc Adrenal Health.

Thieves, I would implement a 5 second ICD on Impacting Distraction.

Skyhammer; when going up the platforms, make it so that its not counted as an “action”. The fact that thieves can headshot twice while you’re in the air stunned = ~6k dmg.

General. Way less projectile hate. This would actually allow Dragon Hunters to become competetive, aswell as a few other ranged weapons on other classes (hopefully).
This is everything from Magnetic Auras to Swirls to Engineer hammer 2 + Defense Field.

Reward wise. Most pvp players don’t need ascended gear. There’s just no use for it inside of PvP. What we (I) do want however is the ability to unlock skins. This means, either Gold as reward or have a reward track award a garanteed wardrobe unlock at the end of it.

That’s not how pvp in this game works. That’s the same idiotic problem we had some seasons ago with real bunker builds. “Just don’t go there” doesn’t help in a game where a point that constantly generates points for a team isn’t a viable option.
It could be in a real 5v5 with 5 people on both sides in an organised team with voice chat.
But GW2 never had this kind of pvp, so a build like this favors stupid behaviour like “sitting on a point and bunkering”. If a team has more than one DH which happened this season on a regular basis you may have two bases like this.

Revs beats guards. Condi wars beats guards. High-Deathshroud necro beats guard (or atleast forces a decap). Druid beats guards. Scrapper beats guard. Any form of +1 beats guard.
Literally everything but Mesmer, power warrior and thief beats guard.

So, currently most of the community agrees that the warrior is on .. well the stronger side of the spectrum.
So at the ending days of season 6 I’m gonna post a few interesting notes about warriors.

Every 20 seconds, the warrior has access to 8.66 seconds of reflects.

Every tick, they regenerate 780 hp from Adrenal Health + Healing Signet. This translates into a triggered Purification (DH heal trap) every 9.08 seconds.

Say you hit 4 Primal Burst skills every Berserk Mode and you swap weapons twice and once outside of Berserk Mode. You cleanse 1 condition every second, every 15 seconds. Without taking Warriors Sprint into account.
To put this into perspective; This is the same amount of condition removal as Diamond Skin has. Without the >75%hp drawback.

In my view traps cause frustration to novice/average players because they

- can be concentrated around the same area (serious issue for an area domination objective based game),
- are automatically activated and
- have serious adverse effects if not avoided.

The problem was a bit similar to engineer turrets in the past and the approach there was to make them utterly useless, essentially deleting them (and their accompanying elite skill) from the engineer toolset. Apparently the main thing that has saved DH traps so far from the nerf bat is that they belong to an elite spec, and therefore must remain “untouched” for the time being.

Sadly Turret Engineer was also a l2p issue. The Engineer was completely defenseless. As a power build, you were supposed to destroy the paper turrets and then proceed to wreck the defenseless Engi. As a condi build, you were supposed to condi bomb the completely helpless Engi directly. Sadly, condi users were trying to take out turrets and power glass cannons were running right into the fight without thinking and dying. The result, turrets became completely gutted.

Not sure what the hell people are doing in silver, bronze, and platinum, but I’m working my way up gold as a solo Necro and have no issues with Dragonhunters at all. I’ve played through many DH builds to understand how they work and what to look for, and had no easier of a time on DH than I do with most other classes. This is all whining for the sake of whining. Soon as DH gets nerfed to oblivion, all this whining will just shift to the next target.

Yeah, seems to be enough to take out any clueless noob. However, we shouldn’t balance around clueless noobs.

Dh’s a “bunkering spec”? I lold. This is probably the one class in this meta that is the squishiest outside of thief / necro.

Kinda like the old pre-wardrobe system for those that remember that. Unlocking Rabbit – Dragon chests containing Less Prestigeous -> Very Prestigeous items.
Having a way of mystic forging the skins you already had unlocked / didnt like to gamble for new and better skins.

I’m not saying they’re perfect but that’s a large part of why they’re there.
My only beef is you only get one unique skin per completion of the legacy and glorious tracks. Makes collecting those a drag.

No, not like the reward tracks. I’m not talking about gear with actual stat combinations.
Way back when, before the days of reward tracks and wardrobe. You got a currency for playing pvp (which I cant remember the name of). With this currency you could buy different pvp chests, Chest of Rabbit pvp gear etc.
In these boxes there were skins, Rabbit contained early lvl gear with higher boxes containing Arah gear which at the time was very prestigeous, especially in pvp.

We could do this and have the higher ranked boxes (Something like pvp lvl 200 and up) containing the expensive exotics such as; Volcanus, Mjölnir the Dwayna bows, you name it. Without containing the ACTUAL item. Just as a wardrobe unlock works.

This doesnt let pver’s farm them in pvp and it lets veteran pvp players unlock the skins without the need for gold. Meaning, PvE players can farm the gold to get the item, stats included. Pvp players just get the skin with a free to apply charge on the item.

So basicly, you’re playing Staff Elementalist. Of course you’re gonna die to every single damage build out there.

It’s pretty surprising you have a problem vs DH’s more so than vs necros though, considering you have Earth 3 on staff.

Okay seriously, DH is fine. Probably way better balanced than some other classes. If you can’t handle a sudden burst, how do you deal with a decent DP thief coming from stealth?

I want to propose a challenge to you. Go into a game, as a DH and film yourself wiping even 1 player with 1 button. Hell, you can even use three buttons.

i refuse to play this obnoxious class even if the whole vanilla gw2 guardian was my main

This is actually hillarious. The only trap that could see a nerf is the Healing one. There is no trap in the game that is a “one shot kill skill”. Nerfing Dragon’s Maw is the most stupid thing I’ve ever heard, considering the skill is utter garbage above Bronze league.

If the guardian doesnt run Renewed Focus you can kill him in a matter of seconds anyway.

To be a bit constructive aswell. Protection, Blocks and projectile destruction / reflects works wonders again a dragonhunter.
