I’ve always had trouble with skill icons. They’re small and I usually can’t even tell what the picture is supposed to be. A lot of skills have similar icons (in every game) so that’s confusing as well.
The roman numerals are easy to remember and instantly recognizable. It’s way easier for my brain to process and assign meaning to “IV” than to “some weird icon that looks like it might a severed hand glowing white and trailing gold dust sparkles”.
I think it’s nice they brought back the costumes for people who weren’t able to buy them last year. I bought them both and I’ve enjoyed an entire year with them, so that was my reward for buying them last year instead of this year.
And if I want to feel exclusive, I have those two titles and the clock tower achievement from last year to show off. You should read the flood of complaints that those didn’t return. :P
I use the mad king’s outfit on my warrior and my thief just fine, that’s super weird that you’re having trouble with it. You might want to open a ticket about it.
I agree, from the first time I saw the bloody prince I was immediately impressed by the look of his armor. I always secretly hoped we’d be able to get it in game.
But with my luck it would probably end up being light armor only and then I wouldn’t be able to use it since I don’t have any light armor classes. At least with town clothes, all of my characters can wear it.
I think they both look great. I was very tempted to buy the Bloody Prince outfit but since I just bought a pirate one I am going to pass this year.. but still.. yeah I will probably buy it before it goes lol!
Haha, I know what you mean. I allowed myself to buy the executioner one, but I bet I’ll probably end up buying the bloody prince one too before it goes. It looks fantastic in game.
My compliments to whatever artists are hard at work making such great costumes.
I love the executioner outfit. As an actual female player I think it’s nice that my character doesn’t have to run around dressed like a stripper. I honestly can’t believe you would be so over critical of a costume design just because it’s not yet another kittenty female outfit. Don’t you think a little diversity is good? Why berate something for looking stylish and awesome instead of sexy?
I love this game for allowing us female players the option to dress our characters however we want. Nothing really compares with that bitter disappointment when your hardened warrior finally finds that all powerful enchanted breastplate, only to find out it’s a freaking metal bikini for some reason.
I just wish my character could look this awesome even in combat. <3
Well I just got one of the new costumes, and I thought I’d share how amazing it looks on a female charr. I’m always really impressed by all the holiday themed costumes.
It’s funny that last year the forums just had so many complaints about the clock tower achievement and the pumpkin carving, so this year they left those out, and still the complaints pile in.
Last year, the only cool stuff I got were the two costumes I bought off of the cash shop. I tried to get one of the weapon skins, but 45 black lion boxes later, I had nothing to show for it.
This year at least I can get a sweet mini pet and trade those black lion claim tickets I’ve been hoarding in for an awesome skin.
Honestly, I enjoy the event for the experience of it. The experience is it’s own reward. If I didn’t feel that way, I probably would not play video games at all.
There’s always a lot of negativity on the forums, and there are always people who disagree, but as an avid reader and a fan of books and stories within video games, this sort of thing is right up my alley.
You misunderstand us completely, the community has never said they hate the short stories; this bit of lore is always enjoyable to read. The problem is the means in which it is delivered. Parts of a story, must always be in the book, otherwise, there is no connective tissue, it doesn’t feel real or factual, even in a fictional sense. In that same respect, parts of a video game’s story, must always be told in the video game. Cut scenes, dialogue, mail, a book you read, or even just a tab at the top of your screen that opens into an index of short stories; any of these would be great ways to implement the short stories in game. Yet they chose not to, and this is where we find fault.
Actually, now that you mention it, Everquest had an awesome mail-type system where you could read these kinds of stories. They were released at regular intervals and viewable through an option in the HUD (similar to mail). I always loved getting new ones to read, and they written the same way, sort of an out of character “this is what is going on in the world” type of story, rather than an interaction or a dialogue that your character might have with certain NPCs.
I don’t mind reading the stories they way they are now, since it’s just a simple click from the launcher, but setting it up to be accessible through the HUD might make it more enjoyable for other people.
I understand the cost involved with adding art / NPCs / voice acting to stories, so just having them to read is nice, it’s like a little something extra.
Yeah man, why didn’t you think to stand in one of his aoe attacks to get a protective buff? Its like you just assume that Viscount plays by the same rules as every other boss in this game. Viscount doesn’t care about your rules. He also heals you with his punches.
I noticed it didn’t have a red circle, so I gave it a try, and it gave me a buff, just like all other non red circles that other players throw down. Sometimes you have to think outside of your preconceptions and try new stuff.
Also, if you do the story, Tassi tells you to stand in the candy goo to get a buff so you can hurt the Bloody Prince, it’s the same candy goo that the Viscount throws down.
The stories are usually really “out of character”, so it would be hard to place them in an in game book or have NPCs talk about it without breaking immersion.
I guess as someone who visits forums and reads stuff on the website, I don’t have a problem with reading the short stories on the site.
I really liked it too. Last year it was really, really hard for me, but this year I did it on the third try. Maybe some left over muscle memory from all the hours I spent attempting it last year.
Nothing beats that feeling of accomplishment when you reach that little room for the very first time.
I just wanted to say how much I love reading the stories. Every time I see a new one in the launcher, I get really excited. You guys have some talented writers at Arenanet and I’d like to say thanks for adding that little bit extra.
There’s always a lot of negativity on the forums, and there are always people who disagree, but as an avid reader and a fan of books and stories within video games, this sort of thing is right up my alley.
The Halloween event is definitely my favorite of all the living stories, so I’m really glad that you guys added a little extra background on the history of the Bloody Prince. He’s a very interesting character, I hope we get to see more of him in the future!
Race: Charr
Gender: Female
Issue: Charr Tail clips through Chiroptophobia Greatsword Skin
The tail clips through the center of the sword, it is much worse for this sword than any others I have seen, most just clip around the edge. It is also really noticeable when running on all fours.
I have attached a screenshot of both the problem and the Jade weapon skin for reference. As a recommendation, maybe the Chiroptophobia sword could just be worn at more of an angle so that the tail doesn’t clip through as much?
I was really excited to finally get this sword, and then really disappointed by the amount of clipping.
The last screenshot shown is my Jade Sword, which does not clip nearly as much. You can see that the position of the sword from the tail is much further away.
They store, you have to click to “use” them to make them go in the tab. Then you can select which ones to use from there.
The food and potion recipes from last year are back. You can buy them near the crafters in Lion’s Arch.
edit: I mean for the candy corn node, not sure about the other ingredients
Well I completed it twice today on two different characters with the method above and it worked for me, so maybe watch the video and give it a try. Unfortunately, you only get the gloves once per account it looks like.
It took me a couple tries too. There’s a certain spot that you want to hit when you fly at it. Since it’s turning, it’s easy to miscalculate. You basically want to hit the left side of the opening with your character.
Sometimes visually seeing it helps. Last year I had to watch a video of someone doing it before I could understand exactly.

So after trying to do the daily for completing the 5 door events I’m honestly a bit baffled at the design choices here.
First of all, what’s with the despawn timers? I had more doors disappear as I was running up to them than I actually opened.
Secondly, why does the daily have to be for completing five events that only have about a 1 in 5 chance of actually spawning? I opened a good 15 doors and only got 3 events before giving up on this one.
Finally could you give the “enter labyrinth” option an extra prompt or something, because I had to waste a lot of time and waypoint costs because of accidentally entering doors while I was trying to pick up the trick or treat bags.
Seriously, was just hoping for a bit of Halloween fun with my dailies this ended up not being worth my time and was not enjoyable in the least.
The doors begin their despawn timer once someone else trick or treats them. If you’re looking to do the 50 door living story achievement I would recommend doing it in the Man King’s Labyrinth.
I finished this achievement in a couple of hours by just doing the events inside the labyrinth. They spawn pretty quickly, all doors in there are events and not other stuff, it’s a smaller area, and there’s a huge zerg to follow around. So I’d really recommend the Mad King’s Labyrinth for anyone trying to do the door achievements.
Hehe, the “s” is silent in viscount. It’s pronounced “vye – count” (rhymes with die + count).
It will probably get easier once it’s less zergy, right now it’s just impossible to see any red circles on the ground with 900 other people standing around. He drops some candy goo on the ground that makes you do more damage to him if you stand in it, but that is also impossible to see.
Make sure your mailbox has space in it. If you already have 10/10 mail then you can’t receive the item that you bought from the gem store.
I doubt the omelette expires, so why not buy one and hold into it until you reach level 75? If you care that much I mean.
It’s also annoying that you can’t combine them in the mystic forge, at least not with other items.
I love these convenience / cosmetic type items. I really love that Arenanet has done a great job keeping the store items as just fun extras and not anything game changing. I bought one with real money. I hope they keep adding fun stuff.
hi,
so i know you can grind dungeons and get pretty decent amount of gold but since i havn’t got the time to stand 2 hours spammin LA to form a group – i wander if theres a
way to get nice amounts of cash in PVE.thanks in advance
Gw2lfg.com changed my life. It takes maybe 5 minutes to get a group, even faster for popular dungeons like AC and TA. I was reluctant to use it at first. I guess I was afraid of joining random people based on a post on an external website, but now that I’ve tried it, I can’t say anything bad about it, it’s amazing.
Comparing pictures like this really makes you release what a long journey it’s been.

I’ve been playing MMOs for over 12 years and I’ve just encountered way too many emote sex chats over the years to not be super creeped out whenever someone mentions roleplayers.
I’ll never forget thinking that a roleplay server might be fun and interesting in WoW, only to find it full of… well you know :\ A word of advice- never go into an Inn or any place with a bed on a roleplay server.
I completely agree. I love minis so much that I find myself carrying around an invisible bag full of them so they don’t accidentally get banked.
I actually came here to suggest this, I’m glad it’s already covered.
This happens to me so much since in other MMOs ctrl + click is usually the dressing room feature, so I end up linking stuff that I want to try on. :\
If anyone knows a way to disable it, please let us know!
You can only preview armor that you can wear now (which I hope is a bug). For example, my thief can only preview medium armor. The three sets are skins for light, medium, and heavy armor.
It’s really hard to answer a question like this since you are basically saying “I don’t enjoy pvp and I don’t see a point in pve, so what is there to do?” I enjoy trying to find an armor set that I like the look of and work towards that. Right now I am working towards the full Twilight Arbor set. If you are having a lot of trouble in dungeons at level 80, I would suggest buying a full set of the karma gear as having full exotics in a dungeon does help a lot as far as the difficulty goes.
The new fractal dungeons are a ton of fun, but harder than the regular dungeons, so you will have to coordinate more with your group. I’m not really sure if MMOs are for you if you don’t enjoy teamwork and coordination in dungeons, but if you are looking for solo things to do there are still plenty of those.
You could work on full map completion, do the world vs world pvp (just find a commander and stick with them to kind of learn about what is going on), do the monthly achievements, find all the jump puzzles around the world, join a guild and hang out with them… there are a lot of things to do in this game really, I’m sure other people will have more suggestions.
They made a post basically letting us know that the fractal changes are on the way. They should be implemented by the end of January is what it said.
I’ve opened about 60 and got a recipe, the staff skin, a couple snowflakes, and a bunch of ugly sweaters.
I love the picture in the store of the two humans wearing it. It’s so cute.
It makes my female charr look like the Big Bad Wolf wearing grandma’s clothes though.
You know how every MMO always has the “Flavor of the Month” class? In this game it is warrior. They can do anything any other class can do, but in some cases better (ranged attack better than the ranger for example). I made the mistake of leveling a warrior to 45 and after that all the other classes I played felt weak and underpowered.
If you want to play the “best” class, then pick a warrior, but if you are like me, then you’ll probably want to play a different class than everyone else. I honestly believe that every class is good in it’s own way, so if I were you, I’d pick something else just because everyone has a warrior. I don’t know why, but it always lessens my fun a little bit when I join a group and it consists of 3 people who are the same class as me and one other guy, I guess I just feel like I want to bring more to the group than that.
No one has mentioned it yet, but elementalists offer great group support and great damage. They are the basic “mage” class, which it seems like you’ve enjoyed playing in past games.
I have a thief main as well and I’ve never had trouble finding a group. I think thieves bring a lot to a group as well. We are pretty good at reviving our comrades with shadow refuge, we can single pull enemies with scorpion wire, we can ranged or melee effectively, single target or AE, and we’re pretty good at not dying, which is always a plus in a group.
The female human cultural medium armor is probably the skimpiest armor I’ve ever seen in a major MMO. I really think they’ve got something for everyone in each armor type. Personally, I like the Twilight Arbor Medium set.
I’m working on getting the full set.
I’ve always hated the word “toon”, I’m glad to see that other people do too. I used to play Everquest for years (starting around ’97) and we all referred to our characters as, well, “characters” or the class name, like “let me log on my warrior”. I never saw “toon” until around 2005 when I started playing World of Warcraft.
I feel like the general playerbase of Guild Wars is made of older MMO’ers like myself who remember a time before WoW. I like seeing some of these posts from these people.
Honestly, I hope you’re joking. You hate an MMO that forces you to group? I LOVE an MMO that offers an incentive to group, the best gear in the game should not be attainable solo. If it is, then there is no point in grouping with other players and no point in the game even being “massively multiplayer” or even “online” for that matter. The world feels dead and stagnant if I never enjoy it with other players.
Many people actually really enjoy fractals, I’m sorry that you do not, but there really is no way to please everyone. No one is forcing you to do them.
Do you guys remember all the posts complaining about how crowded Orr was all the time and how everyone hated it? Guess Arenanet listened and got people out of Orr.
(edited by Rekia.1480)
Nope, soulbound, sorry. This post made me curious so I checked.
I doubt a the ones who want a matchmaker realize what that does to the game.
That will knock out a huge part of socializing from a mmo, wich i built around socializing. Why else would you want to play it. If you want to do the obscure dungeons, you will have a much better time if you find friends, get a large guild, or severall, you can do that now.
That lfg spam might be annoying but you have the option to turn it off if your not interested in it. But it still brings people together.
What else would get people to talk ingame? With a dungeon finder, all people would do would be log in, run a few dungeon finder games with random people each time, possibly not even talking during it, then going for some instanced pvp that they can join with 2 clicks, again no talking, then run with the zerg in WvW. Mmos are supposed to be social games, so go out and be social, the more friends and guildies you have the higher chances you can make a party.
100% agree with you on this. I love the socialization and I love the community of this game. I find it to be a lot of fun to find a random group and realize one of the other random people who joined is a guy I played with last night. The LFG tool that WoW had made it so that we were all grouped and playing together, but it was more like Xbox live than an MMO. The good groups were the ones where no one talked and we just played through the dungeon like the other guys in the party were just NPCs. The bad groups were downright hostile to each other. The community is what actually drove me from that game.
This just happened to me today, I was on the final fractal (out of 3) and then disconnected Even if my party completes it without me, they’d all be a rank higher than me now…
I’m super disappointed that I had to leave my party because of a disconnect. Now I’m too afraid to join another fractal group, what if it happens again?
Well the temple of Melandru one won’t progress past the event where you save Gavbeorn’s Landing. After completing that event, the status says something about the pact preparing to assault Melandru’s temple, but none of the NPCs are interactable to begin the next event, eventually the Gavbeorn’s Landing event will just start again.
As for the Gates of Arah meta event, we can’t progress past the one where you must keep the landing clear. The orange bar will never complete even though there are no more Risen to kill and it will eventually time out, starting the whole chain again.
There is already a thread about it in the bug forum, so it looks like this is happening on other severs too.
Hello all,
I just got 80 last week and I finally got enough karma to buy a full set of karma gear. I saved up 2 months worth of karma pots and used a karma booster to drink them all, so I was ready to go shopping. It is my understanding that I need to take over one of the temples in Orr in order to buy it. I finally motivated enough people to do this very thing, but it looks like the events are all bugged on my server (Darkhaven).
So with no one really doing the events anymore, and with them being bugged, is there any way for a new level 80 to acquire the exotic karma gear? Or are we just out of luck?
You can click “Show / Hide Bags” in the options, in your inventory to make all your bags into one giant bag.
I just wanted to add that this is happening on Darkhaven as well. I finally got enough karma to buy my armor only to find that it is impossible right now.
The reason people think it’s dumb to take time off work is that the people who do it try to use it as an entitlement. For example: “this better work for me, and be great because I’m sacrificing work time to do this”, which is just plain dumb. I’ve scheduled trips to Disneyland only to find that my favorite ride is shut down for repairs, I get disappointed for a second and then I enjoy the fact that I’m at Disneyland.
It’s really discouraging to see how people react when things aren’t going 100% their way.
Ah haha, it’s so funny because of your signature.
Same for me, but Cursed Shore.
