I think it’s premature to make that statement, for one thing. We haven’t seen the in-game effects of Ascended gear in game yet because nobody has it in vast quantities yet. You know, the whole intermediary tier of gear? Not a ‘you must have this to win’ tier of gear. I might be on the Going against the manifesto boat, if/when we see a severe negative impact.

If you mean the no-grinding part, I’d have to concede that point. To acquire wealth, you have to grind. Whether its hunting nodes, farming events, etc.

You dont need to see it at all. The fact that its happening is proof enough.

They have said from day 1. No power creep in GW2. Its happening right now. People bought this game on the promise from the devs that it would be different from other MMO’s.

Both of those things are in the game. As ive said before, its a blatant bait and switch tactic. One other MMO tried this same thing 7 years ago, and died.

And thats one of the main reasons for the complaints. They advertised NO grind. Especially one that takes months to get a piece of armor or weapon that will be outdated in the next “power creep”.

In case you hadnt noticed, they LIED to us and pulled a HUGE bait and switch tactic. They deliberately waited until 2 months after release as well, so nobody could start chargeback proceedings with their bank so they could keep the money.

The sad thing is, they dont even have the decency to even comment on the very serious issues with the game.

One other MMO tried this 7 years ago, and look what happened to it.

I give up trying to respond or even reason with you. It’s become obvious you are completely oblivious to the history of this games development and its marketing right through to a week or so ago.

I hope you have fun in the game. Personally, if my bank allows me to, chargeback proceedings are being started on monday. As its a visa card, and im in the UK, im pretty much guaranteed by law to get it back.

They said they have 2 people doing balance. On 500+ skills 200/300+ traits. Thats just a very very very VERY bad idea.

If they can only dedicate 2 people to this, think about the other aspects of the game that is getting neglected. COupled with no Test server, so every single patch has been very buggy. Major chains in the game broken, dungeons broken etc….

I couldnt say. But what we do know is that they were developing another engine for 3 years, then suddenly decided to scrap it in its entirety and make the one we have now. Then they released it early while it was still buggy to beat MOP.

I would go into detail about what happened in beta, but it will just earn me another suspension.

Its not in trouble yet, as they have plenty of time to rectify the problems.

The reason people say the games in trouble is because of the glaring issues with the game, the lies the devs have told us, the bait and switch that was pulled, and NOBODY at all has even responded to the concerns. The threads simply get deleted and the posters suspended.

I have no trouble believing that its NCsofts fault at all. But Arenanet arent children. They should be able to stand up and stick to their values like they did very successfully in GW1.

By and large I agree with the OP. This is a great game overall. It has its problems and it will have its growing pains but I’ve yet to encounter anything that will make me want to quit this game forever. I might revisit that statement if we’re seeing some of the issues we’re seeing now, by this time next year. For now, I’m content to play through while kinks are being worked out of the system.

On the point of the devs turning this into a gear grind, I think this is one part people failing to read, one part people falling into the herd panic mentality and three parts overreaction. Ascended gear is meant, as stated as an intermediary step between exotics and legendaries. You will not need Ascended gear to be competitive in PvP and you will only need it for certain foes. I do think they should give us the ability to upgrade current armor sets, so long as they’re of rare quality or better, to accept infusions, but that’s just my personal take on the matter.

People just need to wait and see. This game is still in its infancy and expecting everything to be perfect/beautiful/great is a lot to ask, especially for a game of this size. Just have to wait and see how all the new stuff being implemented effects the game.

EDIT: I do think that getting Karma in the end game is more than a little grindy, but I don’t know if that’s avoidable. There’s also only so many interesting things you can get with Karma anyway.

MMORPGs are NOT meant to be played in days, weeks or even months. They are meant to be played for YEARS.

This game is still new and is growing very well. In fact I would say it has been the best in the industry in a LONG time.

If you want to whine or turn this into another WoW clone. Please go find a game that CAN be played in 100 hours. Cause this is not your game

Hit level cap. The ENTIRE endgame is a pure, unadulterated grind. They are doing exactly what happened to SOE/SWG years ago in one patch. Of course, it wont be as bad as that, but this patch as proved that their manifesto/marketing etc was a full on blatant lie.

I hate to say this, but its a very obvious Bait and Switch. If we dont get a dev response to our concerns in the next week or so, i’m going to start chargeback proceedings, and if i am unable to, i will just chalk it up as a lost and vow never to be associated with Anet again.

The language filter is not there so you can throw abuse around. GOing fromt he contents of your post, Anet were justified in actioning the account.

HOWEVER, if you want to contest it, you will have to submit a ticket. Remember, its not Anets fault you got suspended. You broke the rules you explicitly agreed to. They actioned the account as they said they would if you broke these rules.

It is meant to ‘uprate’ a comment to make it stand out. However, due to the very simplistic and bland nature of the forum and its design, it doesnt really work.

Your account needed to be fully active before Nov 6th to gain the free trial keys.

I would post a full list of valid complaints, but last time i did i received a 5 day suspension from the forums, with no reason listed, and no response at all.

Note that the complaints were listed constructively and with full breakdown on how to rectify it. The thread i made received 4-5 pages of constructive replies, yet it got locked, then deleted.

Edit: I should add that ive given up trying to communicate with ArenaNet. They seem to simply not listen to any queries, or constructive criticism. Either here, on reddit, mmo champ or even on their own Facebook page.

If they relaxed their forum moderation, and actually allowed people to DISCUSS the game ( remember arenanet, discussion works both ways. Not just the way you decide), we could air out the problems with the game, and the developers can come into the thread and comment on things.

As it stands now, things are just getting deleted, and posters banned so no replies can be made.

OP, when did you buy the game from the website? Was it recentley? Is the transaction pending?

There has been a major issue with ArenaNets billing system lately which they havent commented about.

If the transaction happened recentley and they are adamant that its fraudulant, and the money was taken from your account, perhaps see about a refund, or as an absolute last resort you could issue a chargeback.

They can easily do what wow does and use a background downloader, instead of forcing people to download it all at once.

Op yes, you can do exactly what you described. The only difference between the accounts is the cdkey. The client itself is exactly the same.

@Gaile, thats not what they said., They intends to purchase a new game online through this site, and copy his current client over to the fiance’s computer.

It seems their obsession with becoming an ‘e-sport’ is dominating over them actually making a solid and fun game. Hence all the nonsensical nerfs to pve that come directly from pvp.

Prime example? Greatsword guardian spec. They pretty much gutted it down to an auto attack spec.

There is no challenging content at all in this game. As someone quite rightly said earlier in the thread, the game is devolving into a generic run of the mill MMO. If we wanted to play that, we’d go to another mmo who can actually develop the game right.

We came here because of how it was marketed, because they said it would be guild wars 1 in a full on mmo universe. That again was a lie. The lores there, characters are there, places are there, but the gameplay is terrible and absolutely nothing like we expected or how it was told to us.

Most likely your email was compromised. If the “hacker” had access to your email, they would have been able to authorise the login and then delete the email so it would leave no trace.

Also, virus scanners very rarely pick up malware.

They are either lying and they did somethign else, or they caught caught up in a ban sweep when a GM was there banning bots.

There seems to be an issue with the system right now where people are being banned when they are in the same area as bots.

Your friends ( not you) need to make a post in the stickied thread. Arenanet wont discuss account actions with people that arent the owners of the account.

If you want the account deleted, you need to send in a ticket. However, im not sure if they do a specific account deletion, or if they delete EVERYTHING related to you.

Nobody except Arenanet know. However, going by our own observations, it seems it refers to how many total characters are on that server. Not how many actual players are on there.

If i an wrong, and it is indeed the latter, then they have a low pop cap for whatever reason. Possibly for server stability.

I just wish they would remove the cap, add a queue or fix the overflow servers.

Put in a ticket and wait to see what support says. If youve also been compromised multiple times, it sounds like you have malware that is on your computer, and your email is compromised.

Tickets are normally replied to in 24-48 hours. If it has been longer than 3 days without a response, then post in the stickied thread.

From what we’ve been told so far, currently, once an account is banned in this way, there is no way of giving it back to you.

Gaile however, is posting in the main thread to get more info so they can find out why the system is doing this.

Which retailer did you buy the game from? It looks like a lot of people got caught up in an account verification sweep. If a large number of people have indeed been caught in this sweep, it may take a while to sort out. Especially as the support team isnt very large.

Actually there is a clause in every single online game that states that the developer can ban/restrict or delete your account for any reason they wish. Including no reason at all.

However, you need to submit a ticket and ask why you were banned first. Then if you dont like their reply, ask for a refund. Be warned though, that you are not guaranteed one .

At the risk of sounding trollish… do people still read gamespy? Especially when they are worse than IGN for taking money for good/bad reviews.

The game was bought from a third party site. Usually an RMT site, or one that is linked to them. These sites are notorious for scams and using fraudulent details.

In this instance a game was bought seemingly legitimately. However, the merchant had in effect stolen the game and commited fraud in order to obtain the game/key.

This was then sold to an unsuspecting player, and shortly after, the person who owned the details that the merchant used to buy the game originally reported a fraud to their bank. This has a domino effect and ends with the account being banned.

Moral of the story here? Only use this website to purchase the game online, or buy it from a brick and mortar store. Don’t go to RMT sites to buy the game because it says its $5 cheaper or whatever, because you will only be worse off in a months time.

As for refunds etc due to the banning of the account, the player needs to take it up with the merchant the game was purchased from. ArenaNet has nothing to do with this at all.

Sad thing is, there is no official reply except the one that Gaile posted earlier in the thread. All we are told to do is contact support, and support in this game is little to non existent. When you do finally get a response, the majority of the time the reply is automatic, or has nothing to do with your issue at all, forcing you to wait another 1-2 days for another rep.

There was a post made by a german rep a few weeks ago, that says he strongly advises against it as it breaks the terms of the game.

However, as Blackwolfe pointed out, it doesnt actually hook into the game. It hooks into directx and pretty much redirects the shaders etc through sweetfx’s files. It works with almost any directx game that has a 32 bit executable.

The only reason i can think of for the rep to say this, is either he misunderstands what the files do, or Arenanet misunderstand it and are simply blanket covering it.

Oh i know the ticket queue is astronomically huge. This is due to hundreds of thousands of players filing tickets for any manner of things, and the fact that Arenanet hasnt communicated what is allowed in a ticket very clearly, so you have people asking for item restorations etc, when the GM’s simply dont have the ability to do so.

Then you have the people that still harass the GM’s with multiple tickets thinking the GM’s are lying.

Not to mention they only have a small support staff, which admittedly they have said that they are increasing.

Atually, if we want to get techical here, Customer support is a luxury after purchase. They don’t have to do it, especially since by all accounts it is free.

Your original purchase of the game covers all costs incurred by Arenanet in developing the game to release, and adds a small profit on top, just as any other business would have.

Again, in an non subscription game, you cant expect the same level of customer service as you would in a pay to play game, such as WoW.

Screenshots in this case probably wont be taken as evidence as they can very easily be doctored. I wouldnt be surprised if they had you mail in something.

Well, you’re not paying for it, so its going to be minimal.

If you want them to hear your problem, and have someone do something about it, you need to follow their procedures. If you dont, the only thing you can do is kick and scream. Neither of them doing anything at all to help your situation.

Send in a ticket. Make sure you have the full receipt to prove that it was legally purchased.
