They are under no obligation at all to restore accounts or items due to a compromise. However, they have said they are going to do this, and are designing a system that will roll back an entire account to a specific save point.

The moral of the story is that people really need to keep their email and computers secure. Reading the details of peopleon this forum that have been compromised, almost every single one of them has an obvious security flaw, yet even when its pointed out, then refuse to listen.

That means that someone has your username and password and is trying to access your account.

You need to use a clean computer and change your password, then before y ou login on your current computer , even to the forums, you need to find out how they got your details.

Right now, the only thing stopping them getting into your account is the securoty feature on your account. However, if you have a keylogger on your account and you log into your email, then they will have full access to your account.

SO what you are essentially saying is he got hacked. AArenanet dragged their heels but got the accounbt back for him. But since he never bothered to find the point of compromise they got right back in again.

As for changing the email, Anet has already disabled that option on the forums due to an exploit that let you bypass a security feature.

Your friend can get help, but he needs to create his own ticket. The forums cannot be used as a way to bypass it. If he has submitted a ticket but it has been longer than 5 days without an answer, then you need to post in the sticky thread.

Also realise that they are under no obligation to restore the account at all. Especially if the account has been compromised multiple times.

Get your friend to find the point of compromise while you update his issue in the sticky thread for him.

Sam, most people who say that are lying to try and get out of a ban. It’s why ArenaNet always say to put in a support ticket and the case will be investigated.

Theres no reason to post on the forums about it, as all that happens is people start arguing, and others get suspensions for what they say. Regardless if its right or wrong.

WvW from 100% Map comletion should be removed.

It’s meant to be a challenge, not a right.

Typicly pvper response to a reasonable pve player request. Its because of people like you that most of us pve players don’t want anything to do with you pvpers

I could’nt agree more with the OP. Why totaly speperate pve, wvw and pvp, and then force people to do something that don’t want to. This also applies to the monthly achivements. Why should people who just want to pve or wvw have to go do something that don’t like or want to.

I would be fine with seperate achivements for all three types of play in GW2

I’m not a pvper at all. But thanks for the condescending attitude.

Also, that date might not have been the date that the account was found to be using third party programs. Unless it specifically says the date you used the alleged programs, it could have been days, or weeks before. You may have been compromised and a gold farmer has been using your account.

You are to blame for breaching the naming policy. If you feel your name could get your account actioned again, send ArenaNet a support ticket saying that the name is against the rules, and you would like it changed.

If you report it yourself, they will not action the account. If someone else reports it, you could be looking at a temp ban due to it being a 2nd offence.

Maybe he was simply better geared and skilled?

Theres a thief on my server (blackgate) who is nigh on invincible in pve and pvp, and can do obscene dmg, yet he’s 100% legit. He just knows the class inside and out.

But if you think the player you came across is exploiting, then the best thing to do would be to make a support ticket and let the support reps investigate.

If you cant remember the account name, email or a character on the account, then you will need to give GW1 support a nudge, and have them help you out.

Once they have given you the login details, its very easy to link the accounts together.

I hate to say it, but why haven’t you taken the security measures ArenaNet continue to bang on about?

I authenticated my account and only last week had someone attempt to gain access to it having received an email confirming someone in China was behind it. I simply denied the link and changed my GW2 Account Password: account safe.

This is going to sound incredibly callous, but if you haven’t protected yourself with an original, unique password for both Guild Wars 2 and your email account, as well as authenticated your account, this inevitably isn’t the fault of ArenaNet but your own.

The authentication system in Guild Wars 2 works wonderfully and protected me straight away, why people aren’t using it or are still repeating poor password habits is beyond me.

I’d also recommend you run anti-spyware regularly.

As i mentioned already, it does not appear that the email notifications are working, i was able to change my email by simply filling out a captcha form, no verification was required from my current (verified) email. I have received a notification when i first attempted to login with my IP address but this security was implemented one day after my account was hacked.

And i also already mentioned that my anti-virus is reporting 0 threats and no phishing websites in my browser history. I do not know how the breach occurred and i have requested for logs information from AraneNet to help me determine this. I changed my email address and passwords for safe measure but i am not really comfortable playing the game anymore.

AVG isnt really that good and unless it specifically scans for the latest MALWARE ( not virii), then it will never find anything.

Plus if you scan your machine, you should do deep root scans with multiple virus and malware programs. Not just one. Especially if the ones you have now are the free versions.

You also might not have any malware at all on your machine. It could be that your email itself is compromised.

There is no such thing as an ‘in-game’ ticket, and nothing he has said has led me to think he is ‘raging’… however your comments are pretty negative.

In truth, no, he probably won’t get his name back, which sucks. But you don’t need to make things worse.

Ingame ticket =/= support ticket. Same thing.

My attitude doesnt really factor into it when i gave out correct info. It is against the TOC’s of this game. But if the OP wants to contest it, the only way forward is a support ticket. Not the forums.

Probably under the vulgarity clause of the EULA. Have you tried contesting it in a support ticket? It might have been misconstrued, especially as not all of support seem to speak english correctly. It might be a simple mix up.

Intellectual property law says different. The developers can easily be sued for allowing it in the game without permission.

Also, read the terms and conditions of the game. It is very very VERY unlikely you will ever get it back. If you want to check for yourself, you need to submit an ingame ticket politely and not rage in it like you have done in this thread at every turn.

No need to make such a big drama about every conceivable thing. Just report it then delete it and move on, that’s what the rest of us do.

I wouldn’t be making such a big deal of it if it wasn’t constant, I mean logging in to see that my mail box is flooded with gold seller spam almost every day is ridiculous.

It’s also disheartening to see that there are so many bots/gold sellers already, just one month into the game. tbh the in game economy is already bad enough atm without the botters messing it up even further.

The same thing happens with any MMO. More so when the game has RMT involved.

Most of the bots are ran by gold farmers using compromised accounts. If people stopped buying ingame currency through their sites, then you wouldnt see many bots at all, or any gold spam either.

Trying to stop botting is like watching the Tom and Jerry Cartoon. The botters will always adapt to stay one step ahead of the devs. You can never stop botting completely.

Outline your feedback constructively and keep it simple and to the point. Theres no need to write a thesis on the subject.
Dont use profanity or start namecalling/throwing around abuse.
Keep it all on topic and write it in a way that would attract more constructive replies and therefore turn it into a constructive discussion.

Sounds like he never found the point of compromise and they got in again.

He did the right thing about submitting a ticket, but he needs to wait. While he waits, he needs to find out how they got into his account, or its pointless getting the account back.

Also, posting on these forums wont help him get the account back any faster. There are many others in the queue with the same problem. None are more important than anyone else.

“I don’t play X any more” does not mean death. It means you choose to spend your money elsewhere. How many MMOs have actually shut down all their servers and closed up within six months of release? A year?

I’d say pretty much every MMO besides WoW is dead. I don’t know anyone that still plays AoC, Rift, Aion, Tera, SWTOR, etc. I’m guessing the same will be true for GW2 soon.

You need to know more people then. I know plenty that actively play all those you named.

Just because the games arent as popular as WoW doesnt mean that none of them are a success.

Sure theyll do that, if you want to give them the money each month to provide for developing the system, keeping it running, as well as hiring additional CS staff.

Remember, the MMO’s that have this feature have a subscription which fiances it. This game doesnt, so it only has limited features… for now.
