Why can't you balance warrior

SpookyPoo.8135

Thank you OP these sort of rants are what Warriors don’t get enough of.

Look at any of the other professional subforums esp whenever they get smacked with the nerfbat – for example I recall last year sometime when Engies lost their perma+33% speed, all the crying! they got their ez-speed back and with interest in a matter of hours.

The problem with Warriors is that they have nothing for anyone to feel passionate about. It’s a very stodgy profession.

And yet, and yet .. even though Warrior is not my main (I play more of Thief/Ranger/Mesmer), it’s the profession I care about the most, if that makes any sense.

Whenever I pwn someone on Daredevil or Ranger or Mesmer I don’t get the same feeling of satisfaction, somewhere in the back of my mind I know I’ve out-cheesed them.
But whenever someone beats me on their Warrior, I know I’ve been outplayed.
It’s the most Honest-feeling profession.

I don’t feel any need to post my opinions re: the other professions since i) the other professions already have enough vocal/eloquent/frothing supporters on their respective subforums and ii) more importantly most other professions have a distinct identity – “This is what we do.”
But with Warriors it’s like, oh okay another nerf. And no-one really cares, at least not to the degree of other professions, not even the Warrior mains. Nor do Warrior players even have any consensus on what Warrior needs. Fasthands baseline? Berserker (and Rampage) don’t need it.
Warriors don’t cry. They just shrug and take it on the chin.

Warriors need to get some Sexy in their makeup. A reason to Want to play them.
They need to be SCARY – which yes OP, Anet does seem to be terrified of.
WHAT ARE THEY AFRAID OF???

I do get that boosting Warrior to the same level as the other professions would not only be more powercreep but also ruin the Honest nature of Warrior play.

It’s more important to wind back some of the ridiculous buffs on other professions.
Then give the Warrior a little something of their very own, something they can call their signature.

I’m referring to Adrenaline, the Warrior’s lifeblood.

Looking over the recent buffs, all are kind of welcome but at the same time rather meh. They did this little thing with Adrenaline that feels more like a slap in the face.
What would have been better would be to revert the years of Adrenaline nerf and then boost it a little by granting one-bar baseline.

TL,DR: all the other professions need a nerf, and Warrior needs a buff.

It won’t happen. All the crying here and on rettarddit. It would also amount to an admission of “We dun eft up.”

I’ve prettymuch given up on Warrior, having ceased competitive play with the June patch (save for a brief farewell to the old Borderlands). The only thing of significance my Warrior has achieved was unlocking the Berserker tree which doesn’t appeal to me.

Actually what worries me most of all is the direction Anet is taking Warrior.
I’m thinking back to last year when Warriors were turned into Rampage-bots and I was like “Really?? this is their vision?”
And now the Elite spec which just feels like an elaborate form of Rampage.

For the past month or so I haven’t even bothered to log in for dailies.
I’ve not so much given up as Fallen Out .. to a Battlefront far far away ..
and xcom is out in a couple of days!! X-COM-2 WOOHOO!!

Cya next patch ! (maybe)

They can start by making Rampage a transform, not a physical skill.

Then the rest of the skills can be adjusted without that 800lb gorilla, as well as adding new physicals (eg Mending).

an easy way to indirect buff war could be the add of Superior Sigil of Incapacitation in pvp… + leg specialist = immobilize on critical… yummy

I’ve experimented a bit with those sigils in WvW roaming – mostly GS/Ax+Sh – and found them underwhelming in most encounters. The problem is that the random sigil-proc is harder to capitalise on than a guaranteed skill-proc, plus the sigil proc puts the trait on CD.

Incapacitation sigils seem to be most effective vs kitey-classes specifically engies.
Against all others the main issue is staying and keeping in range. Smart ele’s will run away once they’ve blown their long CD’s. Thieves & Mesmers will kite for days.
It makes no difference vs Rangers since the main issue is getting/staying in their faces in the first place, if you can do that then you don’t need the Sigil. Warriors lol, I think once I hit a War with it and he had his finger on GS3 ..

I ended up replacing Incapacitation with more useful/reliable sigils, have kept one spare for “squirrel-catching” on a Nike build.

Darkaheart has some vids with him using Incapacitation on a LB in a condi build, so maybe it’s more effective at range.

awesome suggestions, +1

I’d also like to add a grandmaster burst trait for Tactics, since it’s the only line that doesn’t have one.

“Burst skills remove one boon per bar of adrenaline spent.”

This would work like the Mallyx ability, ie boon removal is applied before the actual damage effects.

Ideally it would replace Powerful Synergy, with of course a different name (I like “Riddle of Steel”).

.
.

.. aand I’d like to beat another dead horse about reverting adrenaline loss from way back!

Propose your weapon skill buffs here

in Warrior

Posted by: SpookyPoo.8135

SpookyPoo.8135

Remove all weapon-specificities from the Traits, and cut all weapon-CD’s by 20% give or take.

ie “Sundering Mace” becomes just “Sundering” – all weapons can inflict vulnerability under the given conditions
“Merciless Hammer” becomes “Merciless” – all weapons get a damage boost to stunned/dazed targets

etc.

Some of the specific weapon trait effects could be incorporated into weaker weapon skills or made baseline across all eg Piercing Rifles, Ferocious Axes, Burning Longbows.

That would leave several open spots in traitlines, for traits that actually offer utility rather than simply make a weapon set viable.

There you go – a Master of Weapons, and one who isn’t so pigeonholed into set traitlines.

Oh, and for the love of the Six Gods revert the adrenaline nerfs please!!!

The trait should just be renamed “Thin-Skinned” and be done with it.

rolled warrior, kinda reluctantly, way back when my WvW guild needed more (ya that was some time ago) .. and I really enjoyed it. First time I created a character specifically for teamplay.
Will still enjoy warrior a lot but the teamplay aspect has dropped off considerably with each passing nerf, particularly stab changes and the June patch.
HoT has prettymuch sealed it, now I warrior only to drp in solo PvE.
I don’t expect anything significant for warrior gameplay for several months; it would involve not only buffing warriors but also reconsidering all the melee hate available all round.

On the bright side, Fallout4 is released in a week!!! I’m pretty excited!

The biggest problem, the basic Warrior, did not get any love, just the elite spec got propped a bit.

I wouldn’t expect any change to the base profession for at least another major balance pass, ie sometime next year.

Trying to stay positive, I’m hoping that the adrenaline nerf on Always Angry is a sign that they’re planning on fixing adrenaline decay somewhere down the track, &/or add a little baseline adrenaline to vanilla warrior.

Impractical ideas to make warrior OP.

limited access to stealth (eg Smokefield on Torch 4) would open up some .. interesting options.
Would still have to work harder & sacrifice more than other professions to pull off a stealth burst.

GW1 vets will reminisce the Warrior’s role of KD-king. They could get +1 secs on KD’s.
Add that to Merciless Hammer.

In the same vein, add +50% launch distance to Physical Training.
That would actually not help melee warriors much, but such fun!

Also, more evade frames all around .. though that wouldn’t necessarily be OP, just bringing Warrior closer to what other professions already do.

61. several seconds grace before Adrenaline decay + slower degen, ie revert it to what it once was (so is that even counted as a buff?)

I’d propose one more step:

ie baseline one bar of Adrenaline.

This will mostly benefit sets with slow animations + utility, ie Mace & Hammer.
It’s time they had some love anyway; they’ve been hit hardest in this era of stability & blindspam.

No, I recall they ran more gracefully than they do now, ie more like Sylvari.
Now they run like Norn.

Which version is more “realistic” can be argued till the servers stop; I think it’s preferable if there were greater differences between Norn & Humans, than between Humans & Sylvari.

Crystal Guardian has celestial stats – greatsword is a power weapon on all professions that can use it, so no point looking at metabattle.

It’s a nice skin, I think most ppl just BLK-salvage it for the skin+dark materia, or throw it in MF with other exotic greatswords (only if they want to unlock the skin that way!), otherwise TP it.

You could also keep it to experiment with your own builds, especially post patch when new metas are developing – that to me would be quite fun.
I’m not sure which profession to reserve it for, but if you’ve already soulbound it to your Warrior then maybe some kind of hybrid build would work with Berserker (Chronomancer is looking like a better bet though).

Reverse Maize Balm Griefing

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SpookyPoo.8135

SpookyPoo.8135

i don’t understand WHY there is such uproar about maize balms. They are a legitimate item, being used in a legitimate way, with the devs blessing and support, to the benefit of all involved parties.
why does the community get so toxic over this one small item?

Because the legitimate way is both open to trolling against farmers and open to ridicule against anybody trying to do anything but farm.

But… why? what is it about this that brings out the worst in people?

It’s because it’s obscenely profitable.
ie Envy (griefers) & Greed (farmers).

one of these creates up to nine of these .. for one person. A good enough return solo. Now imagine a coordinated group, all tagging each critter with starter weapons, it adds up ..

I have occasionally seen Maize Balm farmers whilst I’m working towards weapon master cheeves (usually Godlost Swamp before/after Behemoth); so far I always leave them alone if they got there first, and they usually wait till I’m done if I was there first.

If they start up before I go I will tag some elementals for free loot then leave them, I think that’s a fair tradeoff.

PS: I always am tagging ambients before/after Behemoth, so please farmers, time your maize balm parties well clear of that event!

Trait: Thick Skin

in Warrior

Posted by: SpookyPoo.8135

SpookyPoo.8135

My sentiments exactly on how backwards and useless this trait is. Thick skin is always mentioned whenever anyone suggests traits for removal.
I do feel that your suggestions would be a step forwards, however I think most Warriors would prefer the trait gone altogether, replaced with something that actually makes a difference. Even Rousing Resilience’s +1000 toughness still gives less damage reduction than Protection.

No passion for Warrior/Berserker?

SpookyPoo.8135

They were obviously going to make Revenant superior early on, as they want us all to make one and play it. Six months on they will nerf it when the new car smell fades.

After Thief, Warrior is the next class most hated by the other classes.

Makes you wonder if Anet falls victim to the in-game perceptions.

this isnt really true. Mesmer is more hated (in pvp and wvw) than warrior by other classes. Warrior is also the most played class in the other game mode, PVE.

Dresden’s probably referring to how Warrior is described in other media ie reddit/twitter, where ironically Anet gives more attention than its own forums. Look at any “new-to-GW-what-to-play” question, the most popular answer is “run Warrior it’s noob-friendly” .. especially from people who don’t even play Warrior.
So Warrior is looked down on, as a profession for noobs.

From feedback on other threads, Berserker seems poorly thought out, offering nothing more to gameplay than frustrations particularly regarding cooldowns and Adrenaline management.
Even if they were to make Berserker more “sexy” (eg adding smoke field to Torch 4), that wouldn’t save it.
The problems are rooted in the base profession; Warrior as a whole needs to get that RobertGee Mesmer Makeover treatment.

Discussion: Core Warrior Traits

in Warrior

Posted by: SpookyPoo.8135

SpookyPoo.8135

The other elephant-in-the-room is adrenaline loss.

Currently adrenaline seems designed as a “use-it-or-lose-it” resource.
In a way, the warrior gets punished for smart play, eg kiting.

If the adrenaline loss was reverted to what it used to be, it would allow more tactical play and make the warrior a bit less one-dimensional.

It would be nice if baseline adrenaline was 1 bar, and over time any loss or gain gravitates to that.
This way, a baseline one bar adrenaline, allows use of F1 off the bat – bringing the Warrior special ability in line with the other professions (even IP is baseline now).

"Balance" vs Skill Cap Between Classes

in WvW

Posted by: SpookyPoo.8135

SpookyPoo.8135

I don’t think skillcap (or skill floor) should have anything to do with Balance between the professions.

In competitive play, it’s not so much your own skills you need to master, as the other guy’s. So in some ways, however hard it might be to play the “complex” professions, it is far more difficult to keep track of an opponent playing one.

ie “ok he’s stealthed so dodge in 3-2-1 owait probly traited, run awayyy there he is now cleave clones dang stealthed again kitten does Moa 4 do again??”

Agree with Straegen, there needs to be more build diversity.
Historically though, some traits that were heavily relied on became Baseline.

The droprate would probably be in the order of several thousands to one against.
So don’t count on getting a skin, you’re better off saving up the gold for it.

Also – OP, if you have no desire to equip the Toxic/Scarlet set, do not get it.
When the free birthday dyes came along I picked an expensive colour I’d never use – instant “buyers remorse”, wish I got one that was worth 1/10 the cost instead.

My recommendation: get the Selfless Potion
(not the Thoughtless one, since iirc that isn’t as noticeable, and did not always display well depending on race/hairstyle)
You’ll probably have at least one character it will suit, and it may never appear again, or at least if it does it will be behind some terrible grind.

it’s cos ElectroBlue is the actual hue of a special snowflake ..

Nah the real reason has nothing to do with rarity, the Taimi set was no less available than any other.

It’s because those fluoro colours best match all the glowy particly effects in this game, and ElectroBlue remains the top-buyprice because to date, most of the glowy is blue – Lumi armours, Spirit weapons, Holowings, Zodiacs (might be wrong on some of those).

hell yes FH needs to be baseline for this profession.

Either that or give individual weapon sets more utility to stand alone, which isn’t gonna happen.

Discipline would still be taken for most builds, but at least it won’t be mandatory.

In the old system there were a few traits that could be specced just two- or three-deep for (eg leg specialist, crack shot), but FastHands is the one that pretty much all nonPvE Warrior builds required.
I miss the versatility.

(**would really like if WarriorSprint moved into the Adept slot in its stead, that way it won’t clash with CrackShot, even though I’ve already respecced into Traveller Runes .. /sigh)

in Warrior

imo Rifle is too reliant on CrackShot, else any random minion/clone/ambient will eat the bullet instead of your intended.

I also find that CrackShot clashing with WarriorSprint restricts choices even further; the swap will need to be either GS or Sw/- to have any mobility, or slot Traveller Runes, thus diluting damage or other utility.

Such a shame, since Rifle (imho) is far more fun than Longbow.

All that hp/ap is really only of value to avoid being 2-3 shot whilst checking the map or sorting through inventory; once in combat, a single application of Prot/Aegis/Blind/Invis would be worth far far more.

datamine: elite spec - the berserk(new)

in Warrior

from the wiki:
“His (Odin’s) men rushed forwards without armour, were as mad as dogs or wolves, bit their shields, and were strong as bears or wild oxen, and killed people at a blow, but neither fire nor iron told upon them. This was called Berserkergang.”

a contemporaneous depiction of a berserker?

also
“In 1015, Jarl Eiríkr Hákonarson of Norway outlawed berserkers. Grágás, the medieval Icelandic law code, sentenced berserker warriors to outlawry. By the 12th century, organised berserker war-bands had disappeared.
so they did exist, at least.

The berserk of legend differs from the flesh&blood one, of course – possessing supernatural powers such as shapeshifting.
To “go berserk” was to “hamask”, which translates as “change form”, in this case, as with the sense “enter a state of wild fury”. One who could transform as a berserker was typically thought of as “hamrammr” or “shapestrong”.

I just hope we don’t get another freaking transform.

Please change Axe Mastery?

in Warrior

Posted by: SpookyPoo.8135

SpookyPoo.8135

The problem with Axe Mastery, and warrior axe (actually, warrior skills/traits in general), is that it’s just numbers. Pretty awesome numbers, but then whatever gives the biggest dps (ie BerserkerPower in this case) makes every other numbers-based option redundant.

What warrior Axe lacks is utility (this could be said of Warriors in general).
So maybe adding something like “Boon-rip on Crit” (or even more Vuln though that’s just numbers too, I’m sure others will have ideas) will give Axe Mastery (& warrior axe) its own distinct flavour.

The professions who fight best at range whilst moving (Engineer & Mesmer most notably, postpatch) have a very high uptime on +33% speed (not to mention other escape skills), whereas Warriors who need to close to melee only get a conditional +25%.
In other words, Warriors get to be kited all day.

Since most of use won’t be rich / stupid / daring enough to play this roulette, the feature could have been made a whole lot more interesting if there was a big wheel that the skritt would throw your ecto onto, so onlookers could watch them go round & round until they fall into mystery boxes.
Then the skritt would announce the winnings in /say.

Missed a fabulous opportunity for highroller casino events there!

Wait, you just basically said that the mechanics of mesmer don’t fit your playstyle, but other professions’ mechanics do. Then why are you playing mesmer? I suppose you’ll argue that you like the mesmer more than other classes for other reasons other than class mechanics and playstyle, from a PvP/competitive stand point that argument doesn’t really hold water.

I mean, to be fair, we are the only class with pink butterflies.

That’s true. I concede. Phantasms should not be destroyed by shatter skills. Had the OP just said this, I would have agreed. :P

This is actually gonna be a thing!
Am so excite!!
