Great… the elitist attitude of a great number of “raiders” that drove me away from WoW has finally reared its ugly head in GW2. No, not all raiders are like that, but a lot of them are, and it is just so annoying. They can’t stand it that someone not socially comfortable with nine strangers, or people in a very small guild might get something awesome in some other facet of gameplay… y’know, ’cause raiding is so obviously the only part of any game that requires skill and they really need other people to pay attention to how skilled they are, because they have a psychedelic glowing chestpiece that shoots fireworks.

I realize that there are some things I will never acquire in the game- like a legendary weapon. I make an ascended one and deal with it. Not having something is not what makes me dubious about this change. It’s the fact that introducing raids into GW2 is just going to introduce toxicity, elitism and drama. Some of the replies to this thread already make that pretty obvious.

Yeah, it also pushes players into specific content that they might not otherwise be interested in simply because of better returns. I’d really like to see DE’s increase in reward (somehow) post-80. I love changing things up by visiting old maps and actually having a reason for being there.

I bought the expansion, I did not get a second account. Only new players get the core game. $50 is the price for an account upgrade to the new expansion. It seems like a steep price to pay for such conservative amounts of content and new players are certainly getting the better end of the deal.

But hey, I want reaper and gliders.

Seriously I get the disappointment, but this is getting out of hand.

I don’t think people are getting out of hand. They’ve chosen to create barriers for themselves to prevent the temptation of coming back and being miserable all over. I would have done the same if I didn’t have this little hang-nail of faith left in the company.

I was looking for a mmo where players would decide the fate and behavior of the server and ive found it, playing Archage was far better and rewarding than i was expecting, the possible options i can do in that game are excellent, and are not demanding on time like the traditional mmo’s.
It is like WvW being fused into pve map, where player/guilds have the possibility to make their own empire being outlaw, pirates, or being on the good side and role play with those thiefs that can be jailed by a player base court tribunal and pay for their crimes, also sandbox map and possible construction sites, being a guild castle or just a personal area, and all of this w/o the traditional time consuming farm.

Everyone thought GW 2 was the second coming before it launched too, even after playing the beta. Don’t kid yourself. That game is likely to end up both pay to win and very grindy.

And without PvE servers at all? I don’t see that being a huge game in the west. We already know it didn’t do all that well in the East.

The game is boat loads of fun, it has a very quick leveling pace and it offers sandbox content in a market that’s been deprived of it for years.

Sandbox MMOs have traditionally been underpopulated. The biggest had about half a million people at max. I don’t see most people spending time in a sandbox MMO, even though I personally would.

I don’t think we’ve had enough massive online sandbox games to properly gauge the genres success one way or another. What I do know is that offline and limited online sandbox(ish) games (minecraft, skyrim, etc..) have either become huge successes or have stirred up considerable interest purely through word of mouth. Archeage itself has seen over a million registered users during this beta period.

Anyway, I’m not here to proclaim the death of Guild Wars 2 and sing the praises of our new majesty, Archeage. I just think its really unfair to state the game is going to become a free to play grindfest without really knowing anything about it. I mean, isn’t that partly the point you were trying to make when you said, “Everyone thought GW 2 was the second coming before it launched too, even after playing the beta.”?

Support and control are both heavily used in the current meta. But those roles have nothing to do with gear. This is where people fail to understand the game.

Just to clarify, I had used the term “support/control” to be more inclusive of the (possible) variety of different builds instead of listing off all the specific gear prefixes that are made unnecessary by design in this dps meta.

Theres nothing bad design about everyone dps. Its a hell of a lot better than forcing people to wait for healers and tanks. Everyone does dps, different classes provide different utility. And builds are tweaked for individual expectations.

If full dps didnt work then it would be going against their play how you want philosophy. Full dps is the meta, there is always a meta. People seem to want clerics builds to clear content just as fast as full dps groups. Which just makes no sense. The only thing that needs to happen is to make it harder for full dps groups to work. So it discourages bad players from using it. This means coordinated groups can still reap the rewards but most pugs will no longer worry about gear checking as much.

There shouldn’t be a necessity for bringing a non-dps build, but I think PvE giving incentive to bringing support/control builds would make for much more interesting content.

Signet of the Locus is actually a bit to powerful. I say nerf it a bit and to compensate, decrease the cooldown on SoS by 60 seconds.

They weren’t talking specific balance solutions. That was an example of them not saying “Necros are perfect we’ll never change them again” and being open to adjusting things where need be to fulfill the balance ideals they’ve set up.

I hope my interpretation was just cynical and you’re actually right, but I feel like this is just another readyup where they quickly gloss over the necromancer just to throw us a bone.

I’ve never fought this boss before so I was unaware of her mechanics. I quickly put together this build and got her on the third try. It probably would have been the first had I realized you were using axe3 to kill those orbs that pull you. I didn’t use the runes, but everything else was the same. Thanks for this, it helped me get my ill gotten gains. :P

Went tournament PVP with a condition build and that reminded me why i stopped playing GW2 and PvP. Warriors? Yes i can evade and stay way from the hammer combo, thats not the problem…the problem is the bow.

Almost every warrior that i have encountered in today’s tournaments had the stability on when changed to the bow. Immobilized me, fire and hammer combo return…i can endure a little of 1 warrior let alone endure the pain of 2 warriors tag team me…With luck i could get the stability off but it’s not enough.

Guess im done with PvP. Going go try out roaming WvW…

Lot less solo-roamers, many more PU mesmer/hambow roaming teams.

Agreed. From what I can tell only Well of Power offers 1 sec of stability and thats it.It doesn’t even last as long as the well either.

It’s not really meant to be a source of stability, it just makes sure the skill executes.

I wasn’t familiar with this stat distribution and had to look it up (VPT?). Personally, I think you end up gaining a bit more health to be much more irrelevant compared to soldiers.

My only nitpick is the model itself. I really love how the mesmer GS functions as a ranged weapon that uses magic. I wish necromancer had a similar type of weapon that was a melee model but used sorcery at range. I do like your shadow-fiend idea though.

Sigils of energy, stun break abilities, condition transfer and boon conversion skills, some chilling… Engineers have no a lot of condi removals, and use dodges, stun breaks and chilling against warriors. Its hard but not impossible. We have only one weakness what make us useless – we have no escape abilities. Only flesh wurm.

If the developers wish to maintain their attrition outlook on the class, we don’t really need more escapes but better tools to stay in a fight. It’s been almost two years of the developers tip-toeing around necromancer, terrified of us becoming some unstoppable force. It’s why we get garbage like SoV while warriors sprout wings and fly around PvP maps or thieves teleporting invisibly around you in all directions with near 100% uptime. I guess.

For now, its MM spvp and warrior PvE. This tournament was boring anyway.

SoV is garbage, Consume conditions is generally preferred by necros and blood fiend/Well have a place in very specific situations/builds. Antitoxin is basically a lesser consume conditions.

Since they’ve all but abandoned underwater combat, I’ve wondered why they haven’t enabled underwater weapons for land use? The art assets and variety are already there, and necromancer finally gets a legendary weapon befitting of their station.

I think the issue would be some of the underwater weapon effects are grossly out of proportion in power, which is why they had to disable them in the first place. The under water mechanics were something they couldn’t figure out in pvp so they scrapped them, unlikely they would bring them back as land weapons.

I just meant the art assets. Aside from designing new weapon abilities, I imagine adding a whole slew of new weapons to the game would be a major hurdle.

Btw, don’t expect AI fixes soon, if ever. The problem is that summon AI directly inherits its systems from mob AI. Meaning if they kitten it up, every single AI mob in the entire game gets screwed up.

Do ranger/mesmer pets inherit their AI the same way? I assume not for the ranger, their pets are pretty good at negotiating terrain relative to our minions.

Guild Wars 1 has a grind to get max titles and Guild Wars 2 has a grind to get the end vanity items. It’s set up as the core of both games. They want you to earn them. Granted they didn’t do a very good job with the Legendaries in this game, but the no grind only referred to leveling not going after one of the end game goals.

If they want me to grind for the legendary items — they need to add better looking legendary weapons.. I literally wouldn’t accept Birfrost if Anet gave it to me for free.

Bah, who am I kidding? I’d transmute it and keep it for the stats. :P

I’d think necromancer would do well with a long range power option when they start adding new weapons, axe should remain a 600 range weapon though. They just need to do something with its auto attack.

I’ve got 3 unlimited tools for two characters and working on getting more for the rest of my alts. I think they’re worth it, the animations are often interesting and I never have to worry about finding a merchant to sell me more tools. If you’re looking to buy something, anything off of the gemstore — the unlimited tools and the salvage bot are pretty worthwhile.

So.. I’ve done some more research… it seems that necro is quite repleceable in almost everything. Does necro has its place in dungeons or are people rather taking warriors/eles/guardians?

Also I read that neither of these professions are quite good in PvP, is that true? How is necro doing 1v1 and large groups?

Necro minion master and/or terrormancer builds do incredibly well in PvP, Well Necros are a vital part of WvW zergs. When it comes to dungeons, all classes and any build are completely fine, but most people will prefer you go zerker so you can complete a dungeon in 6 minutes instead of 7 minutes. Necro has some odd design quirks, but it is an extremely fun class to play.
