Either merged or just flat out increase the radius of marks. Shouldn’t have to expend a major to get one weapon in working order.
Edit: That goes for staff ele as well and any other class where these shenanigans are going on. These are AOE weapons, so why do I have to spend points to make them AOE?

Some of these notes are fairly contradictory with what we already know, I’m gonna assume its someone kicking us while we’re down. I’m sure the same guy that wrote this is embezzling money from a cancer charity right about now. Ha.
Grownups can be so stupid..
I believe it was Jon Peters that stated a while back that he wanted DS to be more friendly with condition specs (as necromancers were complaining that it was overly power friendly), so the addition of the new condition to DS makes sense. I hope that it’s powerful enough to justify its 40(+) second cooldown (remember, anet likes the skills to be ordered by cooldown).
Am I the only person that’s glad they’re actually taking their time with updates?
Yes and no. The “slow and steady wins the race” approach may prevent the vicious cycles of buffing and nerfing — but it also means we’re spending months waiting on class balance while watching low skill classes like thief chew through everything in their path.
I suppose it can’t be helped, either way you choose is less than optimal.
I also bought all the bank spaces and require even more. These events mixed with my predisposition for hoarding are killing me. I need more space to stash my goodies!
It’s the filter.
And yet, for most people, in most MMO challenging end game remains unplayed. So the most vocal percentage of the population that wants this represents actually a very small percentage of the playerbase. How do I know?
Well aside from various polls over the years, Ghostcrawler has gone on recording saying that only 5% of the population ever finish the hardest content in WoW. We know it’s a small percentage.
Those who want that stuff can’t imagine why people who play MMOs don’t, but most people who play MMOs could care less.
I bet if you took a poll of Guild Wars 2 players that have beaten ANY Arah story mode, it would be less than 25% of the population.
The casual base of any MMO is always much higher than the hard core base.
Although this really seems like conjecture, even if I gave you the benefit of the doubt and agreed with you that most MMO’s are propped up by its casual playerbase — what exactly does that mean? I call myself a “casual” gamer and I’m not to thrilled that there isn’t anything left to challenge me, to entertain me. Hell, the terms “casual” and “hardcore” are so subjective they may as well have no meaning.
All of the things everyone above has listed is WHY I play Guild Wars 2. Because in games where that’s the norm, I don’t end up staying.
Yep, the farmers and end game progression people are definitely unhappy, and they’re not shy to say so. Okay.
That doesn’t make Guild Wars 2 a bad game. That makes Guild Wars 2 a good game for some people. The very things you detest are the very things that I look forward too.
Take the complaints about bashing pinatas.
If you go and bash every single pinata to get an achievement all at once, it’s boring as hell. If you bash some pinatas every single time you go to LA within the time limit of the festival, you’ll probably get the achievment for it without grinding.
You could stand and farm projectors on day one when everyone was doing it, or just sort of roam around and get them WHILE playing. You don’t have to farm these things. Most of them you’ll get.
I get it. You want to sit in Orr and run the same event chains over and over. And I’m sad that you can’t do it. I’m not saying that in just either. I wish you could play that way…but that you can’t doesn’t make Guild Wars 2 a bad game. It makes it a game unsuited to your play style.
Where as Rift and WoW are totally unsuited to mine.
You’re contending that the current state of things is intentional design and not just bad priorities on the developers part? I think if the majority of players felt the same way, you would end up feeling a bit lonely. MMO players have certain expectations regarding online games. Meaningful and challenging content ranks pretty high I’d wager (honestly, games of all stripes need challenge or it isn’t really a game but a simulator), because without such content you don’t have any fun — the fun is derived from the challenge.
All the same, I literally can’t imagine any of the developers chiming in on this thread and saying: “We’re fully committed to focusing on more light-hearted and easily dispatched content in lieu of PvP and PvE content. We feel our playerbase prefers leveling and gearing their characters only to hit the F key on interactable objects”.
Oh well, I have cities to build and ore to mine until things get back on track. I just hope it’s sooner rather than later.
I agree. MMOs have a certain expectation…and MMOs have always been niche games. More people hate MMOs than like them. It’s always been the case. There was a pretty big study done and the worlds gamers was listed at about 200 million at a time when WoW had 12.4 million subscribers. MMOs are niche because they basically suck for most gamers.
Guild Wars 2 has done a pretty good job of getting non-MMOers to try an MMO. Remember, before this game I’d yet to find an MMO I like.
So MAYBE (not definitely) the majority of MMO players do have expectations. But how many MMO players are tired of the tried and and true MMO too. My son played Guild Wars 2 for six months after years of WoW. He said he’d never go back to a WoW type MMO.
Sure, some people LIKE MMOs the way they were, but they’re definitely NOT the majority of gamers. Which means that Guild Wars 2, by disappointed a large number of MMO players might just be going in the right direction.
I should have been a bit more specific it would seem. I didn’t mean to imply that MMO gamers want all their online games to be identical. I know a good chunk of us are here fleeing from the blight known only as “gear grinds”. I only meant that some things are constant. Politicians will always lie, your Xbox 360 will eventually redlight, and online games present you with a challenging endgame after having invested time and planning into your character.

actually the game play is already very face paced.
if u think the cool down of 90s is too long, try gathering more support from people who think the same.
make enough noise in the forum.
they might just lower it.
might
probably will ignore though.
The gameplay is slow. A spike build in gw1 could be done every 15-20 seconds. For a warrior to use quickness on 100 blades they have to let the skill recharge for 60 seconds
Thief burst is on a similar CD. Also, in gw1 you could easily die in 4 or less seconds. In gw2 it takes much longer to take hp down. In short. It is slower paced.
Why would anyone want that? Personally I prefer my instajibs to happen in fps games and more strategic fights to take place in MMO’s.
You need to slow down and get world completion blah blah blah..
Yea, I haven’t really played the game in several months. I log in to see what the fuss is all about with the events, then I go back to playing other games while waiting for patches that fix necromancer. But I have to wonder, even if my class is ever fixed — what will I do with it? Twiddle my thumbs until the next event? Meh.
If you really want a drop improvement, STOP BUYING RNG CHESTS!!! When it becomes more profitable for anet to put the skins in the gem store instead of in those stupid !@#$%^&* chests, you will get what you want!
+1
The only way we as a community can resolve the gambling system is to stop participating in it. I’m all for supporting the game and company through the gemstore — but when I spend money I expect to get exactly what I pay for, and I’m not willing to spend so much money on a minuscule chance for a weapon skin.
My biggest fear is that this might be such a success that we never see new skins that are obtainable by just playing the game. To much time is spent making gemstore RNG goodies and not enough on skins that can be gotten by playing the game. After all, I’m spending money in the gem store thinking that it’s funding future content, not even more gemstore RNG.
If the cost was lower, people would complain about the gem store selling advantages. As it stands now the pick is just a cosmetic item.
We’re divided between people that want them and people that are annoyed by duel requests. K, so implement them in a way where people aren’t aggravated with requests?
Put me on the team coach, I’m ready!
I understand religion is a sensitive subject for many and being an atheist i don’t care much for it at all. Throughout the game I have noticed dialogue that catered for or against religion within the game realm and i was wondering why it is needed in video games? for example the tournament master would say “I pray to the spirits of the wild…but they hardly answer” there would be other dialogue similar to this throughout the game but i was just curious as to why this is necessary in games .
Culture and religion are intertwined, the depth and character needed to create this fictional world almost necessitated religion. It’s like wondering why the developers decided to add environmental diversity, different races, or unique architecture — it makes the world feel more rich and fleshed out.
This is what the forums are for. Gratz on gaining enough experience points to reach the maximum allowed level, dude!
The animosity comes more strongly from the wow community saying they play the best game of all time and it will always be gold. I just wanted some clear heads on the subject. My friend not being one of them lol. Wows dungeons are more boring and afk in my opinion. They didnt create paths and each dungeon got boring after 3 runs. Gw offers alot more replayability. And they hold difficulty. I tanked all wow dungeons half asleep.
My issue with WoW has very little to do with WoW itself.
It has to do with WoW’s staggering success, which everyone went out and copied. For a long time, no matter what game you were playing, it was a variation on WoW…and I didn’t enjoy WoW.
So MMO after MMO was a disaster, not because of WoW, but because everyone copied it to get a piece of the pie. That’s probably why I like Guild Wars 2 so much. It’s the first MMO I’ve played that doesn’t feel like WoW.
Well said and I agree completely. At this point there are two different types of mmorpgs; GW2 and WoW clones.
Trident and axe are the only somewhat appealing items. The problem, as has been stated already, is that the legendaries are a trident and an axe.
These boss mechanics were in games 20 years ago, they’re very simple and straightforward. While fun for a mini-boss, it would get old fast if every dungeon boss started flashing neon-pink “Dodge now” signs. :P
Looted celestial and bought abyss a month in to the game. Haven’t ever seen a drop. I did loot black though.
I use the Naga. Honestly, the thing I like most about it is the feel. One year after use and it still amazing me how great it feels. As for the 12 side-buttons, I only make use of two (open/close map and push to talk). Keyboard skill execution feels more comfortable and for me there would be to much of a learning curve to learn any new mouse buttons.
Am wearing full Carrion Armor
Toughness
Vitality
Condition Damage
Isn’t carrion Power, Vitality, condition damage?
Yep, leave it to anet to be original. These developers seem to go out of their way to make the game fun, original and engaging. Really ticks me off sometimes. Oh and while we’re on the subject of frivolous and petty nitpicking, what the hell is up with all the stairs in divinities reach? I mean kitten did they really need to make all those stairs?
Could have been time better spent elsewhere.
Video games are an interactive medium that combine different artistic disciplines together to create an experience that can inspire a range of emotions in the end user; basically a film without the interactivity. I think it’s inherently apparent that video games are a form of art. I think Roger Ebert doesn’t know what he’s talking about, which doesn’t surprise me as he’s a film critic and not a gaming critic, gaming journalist, developer or what have you.
I hear Tarnished Coast has a rather large RP community.
Yep, this was really great to see. A lot of people have been asking for this. I also picked up my new donkey kong 8-bit friends.
These events never seem to disappoint. Seriously, you’d think they’d get one wrong.
They did get one wrong…the Karka event. At least a lot of people thought it was bad. But you know, one out of so many isn’t a bad track record…they learned from it.
Ah, right. Completely forgot about that one (guess there was a reason for that lol).
These events never seem to disappoint. Seriously, you’d think they’d get one wrong.
I stand with the majority on most of the issues, was surprised to see the split between the “is gw2 a revolutionary mmo?”. I couldn’t imagine ever playing a traditional wow-esque type game ever again.
Edit: And such support for the time-gated laurels, very interesting to see.
About ten posts for things to go south, probably why there is no easter event. :P
Loving the 2v1 personally, its been giving me a huge gold boost.
The guy that quits does more harm to himself than his enemy.
Do you feel that something of what he says can be applied to Gw2?
http://tinyurl.com/d6mdbf7What would you like to change of the current game?
(To know what I think of it you can look at my +1 :P)
I don’t think any of this is applicable. I’m not nagged by any gemstore pop-ups, and there isn’t any content in the game where I feel the need to rush home and get it done before it’s to late.
Well ok, there was that one time where I was pulled over while doing 90mph trying to get home to buy the new quangan backpacks.
Snakes? Snakes.. Snakes.. I don’t know no snakes.
With how strange and down-right dumb the enemy players have been acting in large zerg fights, it would surprise me if I was in the minority with skill lag. Right now it’s not game breaking for me as I’m still getting over the excitement of seeing the people I’m pouring AOE on. But if this lasts for much longer I may take a break from WvW till its resolved.
Boy is my post gonna be unpopular..
Arenanet needs to eat to. I agree that the holiday lotteries were terribly lame, but some sort of revenue stream needs to come from something like this (as opposed to guaranteed cosmetic items like backpacks and whatnot). Everyone takes a chance, most take a lot of chances and invests in their own future content and entertainment.
You may not get your loot drop.. But you could be buying bug fixes, new dungeons, WvW features, class balance, expansions, etc..
That skill would be Zombify. Raise 1 dead enemy player and have a simple AI cause it to run toward the nearest other enemy and spam #1 skill using the caster’s Life Force until that player becomes dead again
Don’t think that’ll ever happen, but kitten does that sound cool.
Really didn’t expect any significant changes this patch for necromancers, glad to see that DS UI made it in.
Yea, my skill lag is absolutely ridiculous. It can get as high as 5 seconds, but on average it takes about 2-3 seconds for a skill to execute. Oddly enough, everything else is perfectly fine. For the first time ever I’m able to participate in large scale battles without my game slowing to a crawl or magical legions of angry JQ people appearing out of nowhere. :P
Once they get this skill lag sorted out, WvW performance will probably be near perfect for my system.
There is a wide selection of games available that limit your playstyle if that’s what you’re looking for. GW2 doesn’t need the trinity, it was designed not to need it and did a pretty good job at it. I’m sorry you don’t agree.
Has there been any official comment on Necromancers and potential changes? All over the forums are complaints, and just from reading this thread it seems a lot of people agree on many issues with the main disagreements being on play style .. I’ve read that their abilities don’t really synergize well on multiple websites, not just the forums here and with what Monoman said, it seems to be a consensus
The official comment on Necromancers is that Anet wants to move the rest of the classes to where we are in terms of build variety, but that we could use a few more ways to lock down or work over a defender.
The main issue that a majority of people have are simply perception issues. The problem with a lot of forum posters is they feel disrespected or angry because they feel the Necromancer should play a specific way and when it doesn’t they lose it.
Examples:
People complain about DS that it’s really weak, but never put points into Soul Reaping, and either never use it defensively or never use it offensively. It’s an incredible skill when used correctly. Are there issues with it? Sure, but only UI issues and DS 2 getting random misses for no reason.
People complain about Minion AI and Lifetime. However, if you do any sort of moderate testing you will find out how simple Minion AI is, and they aren’t pets so expecting them to live forever is stupid. Only valid complaints currently about Minions is in regards to Agony and Flesh Golem’s random stand arounds the rest are simply unfounded accusations by players who expected them to be pets and not utilities.
This is terribly presumptuous.
I certainly didn’t come into the class with any particular expectations of how it would work. I played with it until I got a feel for the class (and overall, I’m kitten happy with how it plays). If anything you’re working against the strengths of your class when using minions in their current state. I’ve actually recently started using minions out of impatience (can’t wait forever for a fix) lately. I’ve grinded up nearly all of my arah armor pieces using a minion build. Those two problems that you shrug off as a ‘learn to play’ issues are actually fairly serious and not as trivial as you’d like us to believe.
Stop thinking we’re all inexperienced players stamping our feet because we think the class should work our way. That isn’t the case and never was, it’s a red herring and simply untrue. Let’s make the necromancers forums a place for discussing the class honestly, with all the pimples and warts. I mean, you do agree that the minion AI doesn’t work correctly, right? I know you think the problem is trivial, but you do agree that it needs attention?
Anyway, I don’t want to derail this thread any further and I apologize to the OP. Do some testing with the different abilities and see what works for you. When you find a certain setup that you find enjoyable, let your fellow necromancers know and perhaps we can give you some advice.
Thanks for taking the time to reply guys!
I was thinking of going minion master with an emphasis on survival. Does that sound viable? I’ve always been a fan of having a pet, I guess because my first MMO character was a Warlock in WoW =p
I’m most recently coming from SWTOR which I really really enjoy, but the emphasis on buying things is turning me off so I purchased this instead (Because they wanted me to buy things, I bought something else .. go figure)
While a bit off topic, I just wanted to reinforce your decision to make the exodus. GW2 has done a really good job at implementing it’s F2P system. You’re not asked to pay for such ridculous crap like UI functions and basic game content. The gem shop is entirely focused on cosmetic gear and some buff items. I’ve been watching SWTOR’s implementation of its cash shop and it’s pretty offensive.
Anyway, while minions have AI troubles and their survivability is poor in content like dungeons (where bosses send out tons of AOE and do it alot), they’re fairly decent open world skills. The necromancer itself is a very stalwart tanker, usually the last man standing if you know what you’re doing.
nope, the article was taken down. finding another source.
Your article is still up, in fact. Google the url you linked minus the last filing bit of it (i.e. post-game-mods-get-hit-with-dmca-notice-from-six-strikes-policy-).
Anyway, this is pretty disturbing. Of course, NBC won’t encounter any consequences for filing false copyright claims.
Doesn’t this system even further segregate the game between WvWers, Spvpers and PvEers? And yea, character bound is unfriendly to alts.
Player housing would be awesome if it allowed customization. I need more frivolous activities that give me a break from the core content!
Running while casting… How did I manage without it all those years?
I’ve been hoping for one since I learned there was underwater combat. If it’s a visually impressive map and not just seaweed everywhere.
Staff is a great weapon if you need some flexibility, it is our quintessential utility weapon.
