I’m sure you’re making a reference to Star Wars or something but it went over my head. :-( ;-)

Great post! Thanks for sharing!
ThatShortGuy.com
use evades? stunbreaks? keep distance?
Pretty much this. I usually run a mes but recently been playing a thief and haven’t had too much trouble with knockbacks/knockdown. Hammer warriors tend to lead with a knockdown, so evade it. Engis tend to want to push you off the point, so it’s not that dangerous to get hit by it; keep a stunbreak free.
Maybe you can give us the profession you’re playing and we can come up with some ideas for you? Unfortunately you have to adapt, if you don’t maybe another game is better for you.
ThatShortGuy.com
Next time instead of protecting one point, get the other two since the whole opposing team is zerging (at least that’s what it sounds like).
It’s not all about the orb, it helps, but having more points is better in the long run. :-)

@Corpus Christi
I’m in the same boat as you. I find the dialogue in GW2 lacking compared to GW1 to an extent that, yeah, it feels dumbed down. Then agian I’m mainly a PvPer so it doesn’t matter to me as much.
I do find some hyperbole in your post though. Where are you getting the numbers to support your claim that GW1 out sells GW2? I just can’t believe that.
Also in GW1, the Ranger has an imaginary arrow before it shot, just like GW2.

The kitten that body blocked you the whole way through the realm of torment before stealing all the credit.
LOL. Good post!

Yup I agree. I admit I’m more in Hot Join then in SoloQ (since I’m impatient), but when I loose a fight I take it as a challenge to win the next fight. It makes me a better player.
Once we get (if we get?) a better system to forfeit ranked matches and a more aggressive punishment to leaving a match I think we’ll see better behaved players.
ThatShortGuy.com
We’re seriously still responding to this guy? Let’s let this thread die.
ThatShortGuy.com
….
And coming from Guild Wars which had a great deal of content to this poultry amount is jarring to say the least, I don’t even recognize them as the same company at this point.
…
I get the same feeling coming from GW1.
It is what it is, however, and I’m willing to go with the flow. The only complaint I have is lack of communication between players and Anet. I think that will help stop (or at least slow because you can’t please everybody) these types of threads.
Checking out the Dev Tracker forum and it’s all about gems or account related issues. No one responding to fans of GW2 trying to offer ideas or even a tease of what’s next. I know Anet has a Community Management team, where is it?
ThatShortGuy.com
Honestly now you’re just trolling.
I hope everyone is with me and starts ignoring this guy’s threads. All he wants is attention.
ThatShortGuy.com
- More acknowledgement on the forums. Since Ally left, do we have a CM for the PvP boards?

@kurtdg
I get where you’re coming from; add more revenue and we will get more content but it won’t work that way unfortunately.
Anet’s business model has always been a one time purchase. You can leave for a month, a year or even 10 (ok, exaggeration) and still come back and enjoy GW2. Adding a subscription fee will scare consumers (and even investers).
Using your McDonald’s metaphor (which I think is a little off), it’s like adding a fee to put cheese on a cheeseburger to get better quality cheese. I can make a safe bet that most people will just skip the cheese.

Firstly, don’t go afk during a match, that’s not fair to your team.
Are you in a Hot Join server or is this SoloQ/TeamQ?
If you’re in Hot Join, you can easily find another server that doesn’t have someone playing a bunker build.
If you’re doing a ranked match, it’s a matter of rotation. If the bunker is sitting at his/her home node, your team can outnumber the opposing team 4v5 at the mid node and most likely take it giving your team two nodes to one.
Sometimes its about out-thinking your opponent then outright beating them in a fight.
ThatShortGuy.com
If I remember correctly it took Anet some time to implement the “/resign” command in GW1, so I guess I’m on the patient side for a surrender option. Although I do really want it.
i do think we need a surrender button, the only problem is that it’d have to have some way of preventing exploits.
I.E 2 premades take it in turns to trade surrenders, or a premade sinc with 1-2 trolls to force the other team into surrendering for a quick cheap win….
Although possible, I don’t think two competitive teams (with compatible rankings) will risk a loss for another team. I suppose a smurf guild can do it but the ratings will hardly be impacted since the smurf guild will be really low.
As for trolls ending up on a team, that can already happen. I mean, they could just go afk or leave.
Either I’m misunderstanding you or you’re being paranoid about a feature that can help expediate lopsided matches :-P

It’s a good idea, but how does Anet give these definitions (in an easy to understand mannor) to new people to the game/pvp?
ThatShortGuy.com
Ah I get it now. Maybe ‘slopes’ was the wrong word as I took it as any ramp (other then the bug Tom mentions). Good inform though. Time to make AI work against thier owner ;-) (because I’m sure this will will work with BM rangers too)
ThatShortGuy.com
It’s much more fun to be hated during a competitive match. Gets your opponent off thier game. Use whatever you have to make you win (within ethical reason, i.e. bugs, gltiches) ;-)

+1 to this tread and answers. I’ve been having trouble with d/d eles with my d/p thief. Haven’t never really played an ele, I forgot about waiting out water attun.
Any more tips on d/d ele would be awesome!
Steal their boons right after their might combo from Fire -> Earth. Then you will get 25 stacks of might and crit them for 14k backstab.
Always use your teleport right after an Updraft knock back (and see that they switch to fire). If you dodge that big burst, the Ele will have to go to defensive mode while you burst them down.
Tbh, Ele is one of the easiest class to beat when you understand their mechanics and limitations. It’s pretty hard for them to workaround their limitations, and you will have the upperhand. The key thing is to steal their boons in Earth, and burst when they have just used their heal in water, or switched out of Water. Dodge the burst in Fire, and range it when they are in Air (so you can watch the RTL and dodge it). Most Ele has a set of rotation between attunement, and you can easily predict which attunement they are going next
Normally Air -> Fire -> Earth -> Water -> repeat.
Oh that sounds like fun ;-)
I should try a Trickery build. Although Acrobatics gives some super-awesome condi control and the Might on dodge is amazing too.
Good to know the common rotation of an ele! (I should really just bite the bullet and play the profession for a bit…)
… Some places they stop attacking completely. On Battle of Kyhlo you can jump out the window and the minnions will actually go downstairs and run all the way around to get you. Then you can go in and they will start walking back so in theory they can never hit you.
There are some slopes where minnions stop attacking as well….
Wait, what? OK, I get the Battle of Kyhlo trick, but can you explain the slopes thing a bit more?

4043885ad.4281:I get where you’re coming from. I miss the heyday of GW1 PvP but it’s gone now. Anet chose Conquest for GW2 PvP which, you’re right, requires a team effort to win.
Wouldn’t a death match area “fix” this? Forgive me if I’m assuming, but it sounds like you want Random Areas back.
RAs were awesome weren’t they? But don’t get me wrong. Most people seem to think that it’s one or the other. I see no reason why we can’t have both. So many times it seems that we’re presented with a false dichotomy. This or that. Have conquest or deathmatch.
Why not have both? Goodness for everyone around! And pop duels into the mix as well.
This is a video game – we can add stuff without taking away existing material!
We do have Courtyard for death match but I don’t think we see enough of it to judge how well the community likes it.
I do see a running theme with death match suggestions: balance. Anet cannot balance skills and traits to both Conquest and death match. Conquest is the game mode Anet wants to promote for professional matches. This means death match will have super-hard-to-kill builds meant to bunker Conquest nodes.
Maybe Courtyard should appear in Hot Join servers more so we can judge.

… as well as level stacking since high level players usually gravitate to the side with other players of their calibre. …
I think it’s more like newbies don’t want to be face-rolled by a more skilled player :-P
As for me I take it as a challenge to face a more skilled player. It makes me a better player for it and makes me feel good when I beat them.

That would be awesome!

Death Icon means he killed himself while falling.
I’ve been using “Death icons” as all icons together. Do you mean the skull icon?
the blue dagger and key icon is the class icon for thief
I’m sorry, I don’t understand. Why is the game showing me a death by profession instead of the skill that delivered the final blow?
ThatShortGuy.com
Ah, thanks for the responses! Every little bit of info about the battle helps. The icons give a nice quick summary of kills. Are we scoring stomp? Failing at ressing? Who’s scoring the most kills? Those kind of things are right there… as long as I can understand the icons.
I’m guessing I’m in the minority when it comes to using these icons lol. Maybe they’d be more useful if they had tool tips or a wiki page.
ThatShortGuy.com
No one knows?
I’m talking about these icons. There is another one (the blue dagger) in this pic that I’m not sure what it means.
ThatShortGuy.com
Something that I’ve always been confused by are the icons that represent how a player died. Most of the time it is the skill icon/condition that delivered the final blow (even then I don’t know every skill), but sometimes is something else like a skull or a silhouette of an axe. I’m not sure what they mean.
Does anyone know where I can see all the misc. icons and their meanings?
P.S. ANet, can we have the death icons deliver a tool tip description when I hover over them with my mouse?
ThatShortGuy.com
Anet would also have to worry about gambling laws. But a deposit can work.
ThatShortGuy.com
Call me crazy, but I do believe some info about the next update, even if it’s just “hey, we’ll give you a potato in 4 weeks” would calm down the people impatience… such is the gw2 community hunger.
While we’d love to give you a time and date of when we’re sending out the potato, remember that during the development process we may discover that a baked potato would be even better. So instead of getting the potato of your dreams you end up with something completely unexpected.
It often happens that a mashed potato with gravy is even better still, unfortunately gravy requires more dev time. So we end up shipping a mashed potato without gravy to meet our promise of ship time or we push back the time and date of when we are shipping again and again. You get your mashed potato with gravy but it is delivered much later than it was expected.
Worst of all that is when we realize that potatoes are way too mainstream and that yams are where it’s at now. And I think we all know how reactions seem to go when we ship yams instead of potatoes.
So in a lot of cases the best we can do is tell you that we are still in the kitchen cooking things up, we’re reading your feedback, and that we’re excited to get the meal out to you soon™.
Totally get it, but maybe some more trust in your community is warranted. What about saying “Hey, we’re cooking up a potato, how do you like it?”
Then as time goes by, “Hey! We realized potatoes suck now, do you still like them? How about a yam instead?”
All we’re asking is to be kept in the loop and to be acknowledged for ideas. Sure those that don’t like the way the potato or yam turned out will complain, but your faithful will help you explain or quiet them.
Trust in your community to help you guys out Everyone wants to know what’s for dinner before it’s served!

Ah, totally forgot I can solo queue up for TeamQ. How do I check if a premade team that I’ve recently faced is already in another match?
What I do is I add one team member as a friend. You can then see their location and as soon as they’ve entered another PvP map, I queue up. Maybe there’s another way to do it. If so, I’d like to know!
Awesome! Thanks!

That’s what I do and I thought I was sitting pretty at 55% LOL

What is your MF?
ThatShortGuy.com
I’d like to know this too.
ThatShortGuy.com
Yup, this has been brought up before. I haven’t noticed anything on NA servers.
ThatShortGuy.com
Yup, if you want a MOBA game, go play LoL. Sorry, but this is a massive overhaul that I’m sure the devs don’t want to do.
Add gvg like in gw1. Matches took 30mins and more to end.
This is something I’m sure ANet is looking into. They highly reduced damage and added a deathmatch map (the name slips my mind). Slowly but surely we’re getting there.
ThatShortGuy.com
Just to further clarify what Locuz said, all armor and normalized in PvP. In other words, weapons and armor don’t have any inherit stats (as they would in PvE). All stats come from your traits, amulet, runes and sigils which is all accessed via the PvP Build button.

In a competitive scene you will always get hurt egos or elitists. Only thing we can do is get a thicker skin and keep on truckin’!

Love the trademark! LOL! Branden has a sense of humor

LMAO! Good one!
ThatShortGuy.com
You’re absolutely right and this is a common complaint.
Rank has gotten out of hand as a measurement of skill. It’s now just an indication of how much time you’ve put into PvP. In other words it should show some level of compentacy (a rank 40 should know more than a rank 20), but we have rank farming servers so even that’s not as true as it should be.
Anet has admitted there is a hidden MMR but why it’s hidden is beyond me. Then again it’s obviously broken.
ThatShortGuy.com
Interesting. I’ll have to watch out for this!
ThatShortGuy.com
Haven’t noticed any disconnects that are not on my end. Are you sure it’s not you?
ThatShortGuy.com
This is news to me. The majority of the time I play mesmer and when a they go stealth, I cannot target him/her anymore.
Are you saying the clone can still attack the thief or the actual mesmer can?
ThatShortGuy.com
I have to agree with the OP. I truly enjoy being competitive but when in SoloQ I tend to see my team fight off points or chase. I try to help by kindly pointing out not to do this at the beginning at the match (I even add a nice little smiley to show I’m not trying to be bossy!). The odd time it gets my teammates to talk and get organized but most of the time I’m ignored and we get rick-rolled (it’s funny how matches are rarely close).
It’s really frustrating. It feels like I’m climbing a mountain to break the top 1000 and I have to rely on players that have no intention of reaching the top.
After a few matches in SoloQ I’ll give up and go back to Hot Join, which sucks since, as I mentioned above, I like be competitive, but at least I can shrug off a bad loss or just leave.
