QoL List 3

in Ranger

Posted by: Wondrouswall.7169

Wondrouswall.7169

Another quality of life list, but a bit more straight-forward than previous entries with a fair amount of low-hanging fruit. Combined changes of most of these would have a noticeable impact for Ranger/Druid.

[Weapons]

  • Sword aftercasts reduced on the auto-attack chain.
  • Crippling Thrust (Sword 1b) to cleave up to 3 targets.
  • Hornet’s Sting (Sword 2a) to have a reduced cast-time.
  • Monarch’s Leap (Sword 2b) to have an extended duration to perform after Hornet’s Sting. Currently, the duration is 2s. Extend the duration to preferably 3s.
  • Path of Scars (Axe 4) radius increase as 90 is a bit small. 120 radius would be nice, as well as a tooltip including the attack radius.
  • Whirling Defense (Axe 5) uniformed radii for attack and reflect, preferably at 180. To keep a rant short, Ranger is the only profession to have double radii on their skill effects.
  • Solar Beam (Staff 1) to not require a target in order to cast. AF gates are in place.
  • Sublime Conversion (Staff 5) cast-time (½s) to be listed on the tooltip.
  • Stalker’s Strike (Dagger 4) still missing the extra range from Off-Hand Training during the specialization trait rework and merge.
  • Ricochet (Axe 1) to have its extra bounce restored.

[Utilities]

  • “Guard!” to work underwater.
  • “Sic ’Em!” to not require a target and provide a boon as per the shout rework. If a target selected, they are revealed. If no target is selected, the closest target in range is revealed. Like how Warrior’s “On My Mark!” functions but with vulnerability.
  • Glyphs to work underwater.
  • Glyph of Unity uniformed radii at 600 and remove or list the hidden 1-second ICD on the inverse version.
  • Spirit cooldowns to not reset twice when using their active/sacrifice. Cooldown currently resets on press and once again after the active has concluded.
  • Viper’s Nest number of targets increased from 3 to 5 to match our other Traps.

[Pets]

  • Lots of core Pets still require attention. Reduced cooldowns on skills and F2 commands, increased attack ranges, (implemented) reduced cast-times and after-casts, etc.
  • Porcine Forage (F2) to have the foraged item flip the F2 icon for use rather than appearing on the ground. Not low-hanging fruit, but Porcines need more love.
  • Pets to use Player Precision formula. Link in signature for those who are curious. Average 1524 Precision Pets have a critical hit chance around 10%. This essentially forces us to either take Beastmastery or Nature Magic for Fortifying Bond (Fury) in order for most Pets, besides Birds and Felines, to have a decent critical hit chance.
  • Attack My Target (F1) command altered to function as Skill Re-Targeting so Pet skills are no longer interrupted mid-cast when selecting a new target.
  • All Pets are unlocked in WvW so players can immediately get into it like PvP mode without the hassle of charming Pets in PvE maps.
  • Keybind for Activate/Stow Pet function.

[Traits]

  • Trapper’s Expertise to provide a bonus for Healing Spring. Preferably Vigor for allies on the initial trigger like how it used to function before with Vigorous Renewal.
  • Most Dangerous Game is still a niche and buffed, rejected Necromancer trait.
  • Light on Your Feet bonus to apply while moving as it was revealed during the specialization preview. Replace the 10% condition duration with condition damage to make it more competitive with Quick Draw and useful with Short Bow.
  • Predator’s Instinct is still under-powered and under-utilized.
  • Wilderness Knowledge to apply its effects upon activation for Survival utilities such as Lightning Reflexes.
  • Two-Handed Training to apply Fury when the Player dazes, stuns, knocks down, or knocks back an enemy with a weapon skill. This will make it work with Ranger’s core two-handed weapons while making the Fury gain more active and less RNG.
  • Clarion Bond to have a unique version of Call of the Wild with a lowered ICD from 30s to 20s and reduced Might, Fury, and Swiftness duration from 15s to 10s. This makes it more friendly with the default Pet-Swap cooldown and evens out the boon durations on Pet-Swap support traits that grant nearby allies boons (Vigorous Training & Windborne Notes).

Fix Black Lion Chests / BL Tickets

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wondrouswall.7169

Wondrouswall.7169

Looking at the loot available from Black Lion Chests I would like to see some of the more less-rewarding items be removed, others merged, and an increase of quantity of other drops to make it at the very least a bit less disheartening when receiving these.

Remove the following:

  • Boost Enchantment Powder
  • Beast, Forest, and Furniture Mystery Tonics (the ones that come in quantities of 10)
  • Tome of Knowledge
  • Large Guild Discovery
  • Medium, Large, and Heavy Crafting Bags
  • Endless Monkey King Tonic
  • All Boosters except the Heroic Booster.

Merge the following:

Increase Quantity the following:

  • Unidentified Dye to 3-5 per stack (up from 1-2)
  • Transmutation Charge to 5 per stack (up from 1)

I’m sure more can be done to improve the BLC contents, and the removal of highly unwanted items and a possible merger of others would be a good start to make BLC more rewarding. Just a suggestion, feel free to criticize or bounce more ideas around.

Incorporating Opening Strike more

in Ranger

Posted by: Wondrouswall.7169

Wondrouswall.7169

Let’s take a different approach on Opening Strike within Marksmanship. Too many times, the suggestions involves just the minors and the GM, with not much else.

Instead of just altering minors and a single GM, a better approach to make Opening Strike more useful is to have interaction with it on every single Grandmaster trait.

Bear with me on the suggestions, as these are just ideas that outline what I mean.

Minor Traits:
Opening Strike: You and your Pet gain an Opening Strike when out of combat.
Precise Strike: Opening Strikes always critically strike.
Relentless: You and your Pet regain Opening Strike when you kill a foe or gain Fury.

Grandmaster Traits:
Predator’s Onslaught: You and your Pet deal +15% more damage to disabled and movement-impaired foes. Opening Strikes also inflict Cripple (2s).
Remorseless: Opening Strike deals +25% more damage. You and your Pet gain Might (5 stacks, 5s) when you deal damage with an Opening Strike.
Lead the Wind: Longbow skills pierce, recharge 20% faster, and attack 10% faster. You and your Pet regain Opening Strike when you gain Stealth.

[Suggestion] An Organized Pet Selection Panel

in Ranger

Posted by: Wondrouswall.7169

Wondrouswall.7169

It’s getting closer and closer to the release of Heart of Thorns and I would like to propose instead for an organized Pet Selection Panel in the Pet Management Menu.

The developers must be extremely busy with crunching and finalizing for the launch and upcoming beta event weekend, so my previous suggestion has been altered to shifting the placements of the pets in alphabetical order (according to species and name).

No overhauls or fancy additions, just a simpler proposal so players, both new and old, can have an easier time finding the pets they want in the selection panel.

Note: Most of the new pets found in the expansion and exclusive aquatic pets were placed in the same line so for ease and to avoid rows with only 1-2 pets of the same species.

Proposed Pet Management Menu & Pet Changes

in Ranger

Posted by: Wondrouswall.7169

Wondrouswall.7169

Playing Guild Wars 2 for over two years and a Ranger for fair amount in the first, after taking a hiatus from the game and returning, there were plenty of nice changes. However, I believe a few things can be altered to improve the QOL for Rangers, new and old, when it comes to the Pet Management window, as well as a few other changes to pets.

New Organization Menu:

  • Alphabetical order: Makes it easier to find your pet by species and/or type.
  • Each row contains identical species: Easier to find your pet by type.
  • Primary stat(s) of each species: Listing the top 2 or single stat of a species to find a match for your playing style and/or situation.
  • Buff, Condition, or Ability icons: Easier time to identify what a pet can offer with their F2 ability without having to select them.

Down below is the proposed change vs the current menu layout.

Adding Torment via Pets:
Torment is a pretty kitten condition. I love it, however, Rangers don’t have access to it without external means. To add it to the class and create diversity in pets, I suggest changing either the Hawk or Eagle to have Torment so both their F2 abilities are not identical.

Why the birds? They excel at connecting attacks on moving targets, so let’s have one of them inflict additional punishment if the target keeps moving.

Addition of the Arid Parasite Devourer:
Personally, I was disappointed to return to the game and seeing new lands to explore (Dry Top and the Silverwastes) but there was no new pet to tame like the Reef Drake when Southsun was introduced.

At the moment, the Devourer is the only -on land- species with 3 different variants while others have 4-5 (including exclusive HOM pets). Would be nice to have one of these guys to charm and have their F2 life-leech to keep them unique – a toned down life leech vs the actual enemy one which hits rather hard.

Reduce Porcine Forage RNG:
As ‘entertaining’ as it can be to see what items you can get from your Porcine during Forage, reduce the amount of items possible down to 2 so it’s a 50/50 or remove RNG completely and allow each Porcine to give a certain item.

This is mostly due to some porcine offering identical items which strip them of their uniqueness (besides appearance) and others, such as the siamoth, offers 2 items that provide the same function (blind & stealth).

Give us a Dolphin.

Do these seem reasonable? Interested on what the community thinks, mostly about a revamped pet menu to be more organized to ease finding a pet, especially for new players.

TL:DR – Organize and revamp the pet menu, add an arid parasite devourer, change either the hawk or eagle’s F2 to inflict Torment, give us a Dolphin.

Stats and attributes to reflect the player’s own Hero Panel layout since Pets don’t actually receive expertise or concentration, and to reflect critical hit chance %. Maybe icons of the effects in the corner as visual aid to help new or returning players.

So Rampage as One is back to square one?

in Ranger

Posted by: Wondrouswall.7169

Wondrouswall.7169

I don’t get it either. Eternal Champion? Sure. That was a GM trait on a mechanic with a 15s cooldown that also gives stability when breaking stuns. On Infusing Terror? Maybe. That thing has been nerfed a couple of times that I’m not completely sure, but all right, let’s give it a pass since it’s not an elite.

On Ranger’s elite shout though? I know they said it’s to allow better counter play due to boon removal, but I call BS since it happened to only our elite. Not Dagger Storm, Rampage, Tornado, or Lich Form. They could have just done a test adjustment by lowering the stability stacks pulsed from 3 to 1 and go from there.

Synergy with Remorseless was also blown dead. I’m at the point I wish they would just do something better with the effect, even if it were completely extreme. Ditch the pulses, lose the one-time swiftness and fury, keep the blob of stability, but change the effect so you and your pet grant each other might and fury on attacks. Up the cooldown back to 90s or 120s to justify it even.

At least then, we can have that Remorseless synergy back and not be completely left out in the dust by a single Corrupt Boon. But seeing how weird they wanna be with balancing, they might place a pulsing fury on Most Dangerous Game come 3 months.

Maybe it’s an over-reaction, but this change is the most baffling. The shout might as well be renamed to, “Runt of the Litter…”

No need to be sorry. If that’s how you feel, that’s how you feel.

I can agree on the simplicity. Though it came with some benefits, it lost a lot of the quirks, customization, and amount of builds that could be had with the old trait system.

I wish they would at least go back to that format of being able to select Adept traits in the Master tier, and Adept and Master traits in the Grandmaster tier like before.

Granted, with a bit of tweaking to the traits again. Man, builds were a bit more unique and diverse back then. Ah, that was a good ’ole time before (at least for me).

[Suggestion] Selectable F2 Pet Skill

in Ranger

Posted by: Wondrouswall.7169

Wondrouswall.7169

Irenio and ArenaNet, could we PLEASE have our pets’ F2 ability be selectable? You all have heard the community. Our suggestions, ideas, and feedback on this class that we all love to play so much.

With recent events regarding a certain pet’s F2 ability (the Smokescale), is there any way you would consider having the F2 ability be selectable just like our other utilities, heals, and elites? A tab above the pet’s F2 to be selectable when out of combat to choose between its unique or one of two family-wide skills.

Yes, it will not be as great as having full control over all 3 pet skills, however, it would be a Monumental Quality of Life change for the class and allowing for more diversity and flexibility for more styles of play and situations.

At the very least, could you (ArenaNet and most importantly, Irenio) think about this? It’s a small, yet, drastic change that would be very healthy for the Ranger profession. Below is an image for reference. I posted this in another topic before but now I want to center a thread around it.

Cheers and +1 if you support this small, QoL change.

HoT Price Feedback + Base game included [merged]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Wondrouswall.7169

There just needs to be more options available. Having options won’t detract from this. The current 3 packages are fine and encourages new players into the game. However, all of these issues could have been avoided if there were options available for those that already own the core game and want only the expansion.

  • Heart of Thorns Expansion ONLY Standard. Price $29.99-39.99
  • Heart of Thorns Expansion ONLY Deluxe (same extras). Price $54.99-64.99
  • Heart of Thorns Expansion ONLY Ultimate (same extras). Price $79.99-89.99

The price has some flexibility, but overall, more options are better. For the consumers, the fans, and the people at ArenaNet, the extra time and effort to add these additional options would be well worth it.

My 2 cents. Cheers.

The QoL List 2.0

in Ranger

Posted by: Wondrouswall.7169

Wondrouswall.7169

Since the last patch, there were a fair amount of Quality of Life updates on the Ranger done. We had some reductions (Search & Rescue), but overall, job well done, Irenio & gang!

Now, comes the 2nd entry of the QoL list. Much shorter than the 1st one I made since a lot of those were implemented! Not completely altering the purpose of a skill or trait, but (more or less) improving it within its current form.

If you have one to add, post it below! Irenio and crew seem to be reading up and taking notes. Let’s begin:

Tail Wind, Furious Grip, and Quick Draw cooldown reduced from 9s to 8s.

To be friendly with Rune of the Warrior. There is probably that one Ranger out there that uses Rune of the Warrior, and that’s fine. This is just to make the weapon swap cooldowns, on a whole, uniformed. Even Primal Echoes has an 8s cooldown.

This request also goes beyond the Ranger’s weapon swap traits and should also be applied to weapon swap sigils that currently have a 9s cooldown on them.

“Search & Rescue!” changed to have ground-target casting. (Land version only)

Since the reduction to make this shout equal to the usual 600 range, it’s been a bit more difficult to use. You (Anet) can keep it at 600 range if you like, but let the skill be a ground-target cast from the Player’s position.

Any ally within the target-zone will be teleported to you and the pet will shadow-step to your position and start reviving a downed ally. This will also make it much friendlier with ranged pets, as all of them are 900 range and above.

Hornet’s Sting (Sword 2) reduced cast time and Crippling Thrust (Sword 1b) to cleave.

A long-time request to have the cast time reduced so the evade can be accessed earlier and be more reactive and less clunky. Currently, the cast time is ½s. A small reduction down to a ¼s would be the sweet-spot. This would allow an opponent some time to react to the attack, as well as the player to use the evade.

As for Crippling Thrust, after the update it has since not been updated itself to cleave multiple targets. Yes, the cripple could be an issue, however, since the update, the sword chain has a bit more after-casts on it than before. Allow the entire chain to cleave so it can match all of the existing professions that use a main-hand sword (which cleave on all strikes).

Sharing is Caring: More Traits Pets Can Use.
-Hunter’s Tactics: Allow the critical hit chance increase when attacking from behind or the side to affect the pet when it strikes targets from the flank.
-Poison Master: Allow the increased poison damage to affect poison applied by the pet.
-Hidden Barbs: Allow the increased bleeding damage to affect bleeding applied by the pet.
-Oakheart Salve: Allow the damage reduction when the pet has regeneration.

Pets are the Ranger’s core mechanics. As with the update to Sharpened Edges trait, our pets should be able to benefit from more of our traits. In fact, if there is ever another trait revamp done in the future, more traits should incorporate a bond shared between the pet and its master.

Allowing the listed above traits (Steady Focus was omitted but could be considered) can give that small edge that players’ feel pets currently lack. It would not completely address many of the issues with pets, but it would be a small step in the right direction.

Note: Before anyone calls foul, I tested Poison Master and Hidden Barbs before placing these on the list. Currently, they do not affect their respective conditions when applied by the pet.

Astral Wisp & Vine Surge velocity increase.

Both these moves suffer in various ways. Not only do these skills have a decent cast time, but they are often slow to reach their target or destination. There have been many great suggestions to reworking these two skills, but for the sake of simplicity, a small start would be increasing the velocity of these Staff skills to be able to hit targets more reliably.

Astral Wisp to pulse its effect instead of passing through allies.

Currently, having the Wisp pass through allies can be awkward. Rather than increase the velocity of the orbiting speed or duration of its boon, have it be more straight-forward and pulse its heal to allies with in the radius.

As of right now, for allies to benefit the most from it is to have them move opposite of the Wisp’s orbiting direction while staying within melee range of the target. The reward is lacking to the risk and the manner to obtain maximum benefits are clunky. It also behaves oddly when attached to enemies with very large hit-boxes.

Altering the way it delivers its heals for allies into a pulsing area of effect that follows the target it is attached to will allow this skill to be more functional and less of a hassle, for both the user and allies.

Glyph of Rejuvenation’s player heal to also heal the pet.

This is a consistency issue. I’m tossing thematics out the window as this is the only heal that does not initially heal the pet. Say what you want, the initial heal should affect the pet so our core mechanic is not left out in the dust when 4 other players are within the radius.

Lower cooldowns of the core (Pre Heart of Thorns) Pets

The new pets that came with Heart of Thorns left the old, core Tyria pets in the dust. Only a small handful of them serve a purpose (relative to their game mode) while a majority of them are either used as a niche, or not used at all.

Rather than going through a complete Pet revamp or rework (search through the forums, there are many fantastic suggestions from the community), I will simply ask for all of the core pets’ F2 command cooldowns to be looked at and reduced.

I believe Irenio did a stellar job doing this with the Engineer Toolbelt skills – another class he is in charge of – by reducing and adjusting a lot of the cooldowns for quality of life purposes. No direct suggestions here, man. However, I will mention that a 45-second cooldown on the Polar Bear’s F2 is a bit of an extreme for what it does.

As a minor note/request: The old, core Tyria pets AND Tiger need love on their tooltip descriptions in regards to updating Condition Duration when traited with Expertise Training (Wilderness Survival – Adept). Boon durations work nicely on all pets, but Condition Duration only updates with the new breeds (Bristleback, Smokescale, and Wyverns).

Porcine Forage item to appear as the F2 rather than on the ground.

This would be a huge quality of life improvement for using a Porcine for the Forage item. Much like the Steal ability of the Thief, using Forage should play out the animation of the Porcine searching the ground as usual, then have the F2 icon flip to said item.

When the item is ready to use, the player can then press F2 for it to appear in the player’s hands to be used. This would be how the Ranger would deal with discarding unwanted items, if it comes to that.

With this approach, the item would not be lying on the ground for other players to use, other enemy players to use, or have the player be forced to use it if it were to automatically appear in the player’s hands.

Foraged items can then be used more effectively and strategically without being hindered or accidentally benefiting the opposition. This cannot be stressed enough. Equipping a Porcine and having an enemy retrieve the Foraged item makes Ranger the only profession that can provide an opportunity to aid an enemy while losing out on part of our profession’s mechanic!

Underwater stuff
-Evasive Strike (Spear 1c) to move while casting.
-“Guard!” recent functionality to work underwater.
-Druid Glyphs to work underwater.

Underwater doesn’t see much love these days, however, there are a few things to address since other professions had their elite specs fleshed out to be friendly when swimming.

It’s an odd design choice to have the Druid’s Celestial Avatar form work underwater but not any of the Glyphs. Glyphs are personal-based area of effect skills (PBAoE), so it would seem natural to work underwater. Even Seeds of Life functions underwater so Verdant Etchings shouldn’t be an issue when using Glyphs.

“Guard!” also needs to be looked at since its functionality was recently changed. It makes sense to have this skill work underwater since it no longer requires a ground-target cast or positions the pet.

Last, but not least. A minor change to the final Spear attack in the auto-chain, Evasive Strike, to be used whilst moving. This quality of life suggestion extends also the Mesmer Spear which suffers from the same issue of rooting the player in place on the final strike.

Seems odd to have an auto attack on a melee weapon root a player in place. (cough)

More accessible Opening Strikes
-Alpha Training minor merged into Opening Strike minor.
-Precise Strike moved down from Grandmaster minor to Master minor.
-Remorseless’ Gain an Opening Strike when you gain Fury as a Grandmaster minor.
-Remorseless makes Opening Strikes deal more damage and unblockable.

For the longest time, the Opening Strike minors had a major flaw of not being effective in continuous engagements as it used to only refresh when out of combat or relying on a Grandmaster trait, Remorseless.

These suggestions aim to make these minor traits accessible to various builds and play styles. By merging Alpha Training together with Opening Strike, and taking half of the current Remorseless trait and using it as a Grandmaster minor trait, the Opening Strike minors can finally be used without solely relying on the Remorseless trait.

As an added suggestion that was brought up in [this thread], Remorseless can gain a new feature in which it makes Opening Strikes unblockable. Since Opening Strikes only apply to the next attack, this can introduce an alternative for the Ranger profession to bypass blocks and aegis besides using traps.

Being held as a Grandmaster in Marksmanship will also limit its access and create a definitive choice for players when selecting a build and trait lines. It will not only create diversity within the competitive aspects of the game, but for all game modes, as well as with various gear and builds using low precision and different sources of fury; be it with pets, weapons, traits, runes, or group compositions.

This is the only suggestion (so far) that oversteps the bounds for altering things in such a way that the impact goes far beyond quality of life. It is both strong but limited, so it does not become too powerful. Please, think about this one.

Steady Focus applies 5% damage per 50 endurance.
(suggested by Lazze)

Yes, Rangers have access to plenty of vigor and evasion. However, all-or-nothing traits such as this feel outdated and somewhat punishing for using a core game mechanic: dodging.

Rather than completely alter the trait, what about dividing up the damage bonus to apply per 50 endurance the player has? It retains the purpose of using other means of evasion, blocks, and strafing to keep up the damage bonus while being flexible and not completely punishing for using dodges.

There are plenty of traits on other professions that have various levels of effectiveness based on different conditions and thresholds. Traits like Steady Focus could benefit from this treatment as well. This also extends to the Engineer trait, Excessive Energy (Tools, Grandmaster minor), which is similar to Steady Focus.

Sharpening Stone is outdated.

I won’t state the ways Sharpening Stone can be improved, but the general Ranger community find this utility lackluster. 5 bleeds to apply on the next 5 strikes on a 45-second cooldown is straight-up mediocre.

It’s a cross between a badly implemented Preparation from the original Guild Wars and Thief venom. This utility requires attention in some way. There have been some good revamps on skills recently, both functional and creative; so we can only look forward to what changes could be in store if Sharpening Stone were to see some love.

Visible Boons, Buffs, and Conditions on our Pet

Our pet is the Ranger’s core mechanic. Unlike other professions that have temporary minions, ours is a permanent feature. Players could benefit greatly by having our UI to display the active boons, buffs, and conditions placed on our pet.

This would allow a more streamlined approach on checking the status without the clunkiness of locating and clicking on our pet. This would also help players make smarter and decisive choices when to tactically use commands and/or utilities depending on a pet’s status.

Keybind for Stow/Activate Button

Many Rangers stow their pets before entering combat to activate pet swap traits tactically. Let’s add a keybind for this Ranger function for less skill clicking and fumbling with the mouse cursor to click this relatively small icon (varies depending on individual UI size settings).

Profession Mechanic Transformation Skill Previews
(suggested by Droog)

This is for ease of access in terms of information. Providing a preview to Celestial Avatar Forms skills in the weapon tab in the Hero Panel can cut down on time when experimenting with different gear and builds and checking out the numbers.

This will also benefit new players and new players to the Druid elite specialization, being able to see what each skill does to better familiarize themselves without having to build up Astral Force repeatedly in order to view them.

An alternative way to include preview of these skills can be done by having the 1st minor trait in the elite specialization display skills one-by-one via right-clicking. This is currently present on the Warrior’s Berserker elite specialization 1st minor trait that lists the different functions of each Primal Rage burst with different weapons.

This suggestion also extends to Necromancer & Reaper Shroud skills. Quality of life for all.

Edit: Added a more suggestions.

Please. Just classify the sounds of Legendary Weapons as Musical Instruments (such as the Glint hymn – even though it’s not a Legendary weapon). There is already a sound FX adjustable slider for it.

If you don’t enjoy the sounds, you are going to have to make the decision to lower the volume or completely mute Legendary weapon sound FX with all musical instruments and vice-versa. Have it be an option that the Players can control rather than an update no one has control over.

What do we know of upcoming ranger changes

Big changes are coming to the Ranger class. I can see it now!

  • Tool-tip damage corrections
  • Tool-tip grammar corrections
  • Fixed a bug that allowed players to select and create the Ranger profession
  • Added a feature that now allows Rangers to be kicked from parties without a second vote – other professions will still require a second vote to be removed from the party

This is a good opportunity to look at sword

in Ranger

Posted by: Wondrouswall.7169

Wondrouswall.7169

They could make sword easier to use but I think that it would result in a loss of those little trick you can pull off with it.

Not really. I’ve posted it before that there is a way to appease both while working with the available coding to allow it to dodge while retaining most of its chase-down/movement.

It literally boils down to altering sword in such an odd way that I don’t think Anet would even think, let alone bother with it.

  • Reduce the range of Kick (1b) and Pounce (1c) to 130 range to allow free movement while executing the attack and dodging between casts of 1b & 1c.
  • Add ¼s of Super Speed to Kick (1b) and ½s Super Speed to Pounce (1c) (equal amount for each cast time).

Taking into account movement speed while in combat with the cast time of the attack, assuming the player is moving forward during the entire chain, and including the attack range of each attack (130), Kick (1b) is reduced from 300 range down to 230 range while Pounce (1c) is reduced from 430 to 330.

Those 2 changes allows the current, unique animation to remain, while allowing free movement while executing the chain, max-melee range combat on sword, and the ability to dodge between casts of 1b & 1c, and retain about 80% (860 total current range vs 690 total new range) of the chain’s distance (chase-down ability/range).

Even tricks such as the double Pounce you mentioned will be mostly retained with this change, since Pounce (and Kick) would be non-leap, free movement action where the benefits of Super Speed would be able to apply to the player.

The solution is so simple that I’m not surprised Jon Peters never thought of it.

For example change Remorseless to be “All attacks are unblockable when you attack your target from behind”

I dont find it sluggish at all, albeit your damage is dependent on landing the #3 for the quickness.

And there lies the reason it’s sluggish – it’s dependent on quickness to perform smoothly rather than being smooth from the get-go.

At the very least, the auto attack chain should be as equally fluid and quick as the Thief/Necro dagger auto attacks.

AF Generation with Update

in Ranger

Posted by: Wondrouswall.7169

Wondrouswall.7169

Editing this entirely after further testing. So, it seems that Astral Force can now generate with the following:

  • Regeneration
  • Signet of the Wild
  • Natural Healing (trait)
  • Runes and Food that give health over time (such as Dolyak runes and Mango Pies)

I initially thought it was a passive generation added but it was actually generating from my pet healing from Natural Healing!

Heals that do NOT generate Astral Force:

  • Spirit of Nature (thanks to Vendetta for pointing this out)
  • Invigorating Bond (trait)
  • Self-applied Heals and Regeneration by the Pet (such as “Bite” from Bears)
  • Pet Heals (such as Harmonic Cry)

Thanks to everyone testing, confirming, and posting what does and does not contribute to astral force generation as of the 11/17 patch.

Mainhand axe...

in Ranger

Wondrouswall.7169

I still want a small bleed attached to the auto if the bounce strikes a second target and Winter’s Bite AOE baseline. If they want to keep the stupid ferocity on Honed Axes, fine, but alter it so it applies when we have an axe equipped in general – not just the main hand.

If they want to keep Winter’s Bite AOE as part of the trait, then give something to off-hand axe like the trait boosts Path of Scars to inflict daze on the outgoing strike. Buffing only 1 of 5 skills is pretty lackluster and lame.

Honed Axes

in Ranger

Posted by: Wondrouswall.7169

Wondrouswall.7169

Honed Axes should just ditch the ferocity and apply something else that both condition and power can benefit from. Make it active, too, rather than just having an axe in (either) hand. Maybe buff an off-hand axe skill. Something like:

Honed Axes: Gain Honed Axes (5s) each time you strike a foe with an axe skill. Axe skills recharge 20% faster. Winter’s Bite is an AOE and Path of Scars inflicts Daze (½s) on the outgoing strike. Honed Axes: +2% critical hit chance per stack. Stacks up to 10 times.

That would make it worthy of the GM slot in my book.

BWE 3 Dragonhunter Specialization Changes

in Guardian

Posted by: Wondrouswall.7169

Wondrouswall.7169

TRAPS

I am perfectly happy with the Dragonhunter getting traps as their additional utility skill-type, but the traps themselves still need a little more payout for the risks.

  • Purification. As it’s name suggests it needs to address conditions. Add “Placing this trap removes 1 condition from the Dragonhunter. When this trap is triggered convert 1 condition on the Dragonhunter to a boon.”
  • Fragments of Faith. Still the gem of the set.
  • Light’s Judgment. It’s right there in the name… Add “Triggering the trap creates a light field.”
  • Test of Faith. Add “Placing this trap is a stunbreak. Triggering the trap creates a light field.”
  • Procession of Blades. Spin to win! Add “First and final damage pulse are whirl finishers.”
  • Dragon’s Maw. Needs more cowbell! Add “Downed enemies in the attack radius are killed at the end of the duration.” (using tech seen in the Daredevil Elite)

Adding a cleanse convert to the healing trap, a stun break to what is arguably the weakest of the traps, and a little more indirect condition cleansing through light fields will go a long way towards making trap-heavy or even all traps builds have the survivability to actually use the traps line.

Was going to post the same thing until I saw this post. +1
