I fly around hopelessly looking for the right combination of updrafts. There is one inside the water that is painfully hard to see. It helps get you to another that gets you up there. All updrafts appear/disappear. It’s all about hitting the right ones at the right time.
If you want a more organized approach try to find DULFY guide to the vista on top of waterfall. I have no memory of where I found it or what it’s called but if you search for that vista on top of waterfall you might find her video.
If you don’t have Heart of Thorns , try guardian. I loved playing a Paladin in Burning Crusade/Wrath and I love playing guardian here. I find they have a weapon/build or skill for just about any situation and they are a huge help to allies in WvW and some fractals. They were not doing great in raids, but an August 8th patch improved their damage and they are good for dps spots in raids.
At present, there are more things to do “end game” and for some people there is no “end” as they continue to do the metas and go for event clears, boss clears, map clears, jumping puzzles and a large array of achievements in order to build legendary armor, accessories and weapons and complete class specific collections that use currency from all the Heart of Thorns and Season 3 maps and reward ascended weapons. There are mastery points to obtain that open up gliding and other specialties used in Heart of Thorns. There will be a new set coming out for Path of Fire and you don’t need Heart of Thorns, or it’s masteries to play Path of Fire.
In addition to the chaotic dungeons you didn’t like there are:
World bosses: May appear chaotic to a newcomer, but some of these have been around a long time, were taught and organized for a long time, and now players just know what to do to succeed. Others still require communication and there are guilds who organize them and put them in the Looking for Group for you join.
Fractals: These are like quick dungeons with only the end bosses. They are fights/mechanics you will learn in early levels and master at the higher levels. You level up in them— 1-100, need ascended items to play in— and in the higher tiers they add debuffs and other hurdles that frequently change to add variety and challenge. The highest tier gives nice rewards including ascended weapons/armors.
Raids: These are 10-man, can be played in exotic gear, and require team organization and communication. Like WOW there are unique mechanics to learn, special assignments and class specific roles.
Map Meta events: Not rigidly organized but some require leaders and a basic knowledge of what needs to be done. These will include large groups, full maps, up to 150 players.
Farm maps and map currencies that give ascended accessories, home instance nodes and other rewards. This is all ongoing whether you play the base/free game, or the new expansions.
Adventure games— little mini games you can do by yourself for mastery points, chests or just for fun.
Amalgamated Gemstones are what I am asking for help with. ***Update: Someone was kind enough to donate 10 to me. They wanted to remain anonymous. I’m still working on the rest, could still use help.
I started this game in Beta 1 and have always wanted a legendary weapon. Unfortunately I was taken out of the game for long periods, twice; when I lost my home/belongings in Superstorm Sandy and then due to lengthy health issues.
I am doing the HoT metas but would have to be in there months beyond PoF and it would eat up much of my game time. I tried the mystic forge but have to buy the mats which costs just as much as buying the amalgamated outright. All the other steps wiped out my gold/mats and I am not in the position to keep buying gems. I only have 26 out of the 250. If anyone has any to spare to get me closer that would mean so much to me.

I agree. I had no idea it was a mini making that horrible sound. To me it sounds like someone gasping for air and is very disturbing when you’ve heard the real thing. It is louder than any other sound effect in Lion’s arch. Please give us a way to shut off sounds from mini pets.

I agree on those two being the most frustrating. I remember finally getting to the end of Not so Secret x2 and flying off the final cog the wrong way x2. After that, I made a mesmer and leveled it to 80. LOL
You will need Chalice of Tears, again, if you are going for the Legendary Trinket. I suggest bringing a Mesmer, and if you know anyone, a mesmer friend. With two mesmers it becomes fun and you get to help a lot of people along the way.
Thank you! Went back today and got everything done.
I went back to the story in Caudicus Manor to collect all the pages. After all fights I was ported back to the room with the fireplace. The NPC’s disappeared into a port that I could not use. Now, all the doors dowstairs, that I need, are locked. All it says is “Enter Caudicus’s chamber,”and there is a green oval but I’ve searched every room/hallway in that oval and can’t find it. I have no clue how to get there.
Please help, thanks!
Having the same exact issues. I can’t see how the patches would be releated but it definitely gets worse after every one. Had to drop from raid last night and exit game because it was unplayable between 8pm-10pm EST
-I am having the same issue. Had to drop from raid yesterday, 8-10 eastern, because I couldn’t see/catch up with what was happening. Every patch seems to make it worse, but I can’t see how they are related.
1. Exotics are definitely inside the unidentified gear. I got some that way. If ascended are, I’ll be very upset.
2. Does * NOT*save space as id’ing make all items spread out into slots the same exact way. PLUS the clover looking salvage items are still dropping, karma tokens, trade contracts, collection items, random junk and and random white crap, green gear dropping anyway. NOT space saving.
3. Gold sink
4. Time consuming and repetitious hearts to get.
5. Devalues purchased coin-fed salavage kits as they can’t be used until everything is id’d- destroying their time savings and now you are paying for for both ID & salvage— wrecking their gold savings.
Thought the ones were great. Not crazy about the new ones.
Mounts – didn’t need, don’t like that map/mastery is all about them. Don’t like the frequent dismounts. Camera zooms out when mounting and in when dismounting, hate that.
Bounty – don’t like go-fetch. Why can’t they all just spawn randomly and whoever is there gets credit?
ID items- hate/despise this. Does not save space as all items expand into slots when id’d. Gold sink. Forces repetition of hearts. Devalues the copper fed machine since you can’t use without destroying everything.
Artwork, music, design – love!
Hearts/Mastery points/Hero points – didn’t see/do a lot of them, but seemed good.

The events are probably empty right now because it is a demo weekend this weekend and next. Try those during the week or look in the Looking for Group tab, open world for the HoT zones. The meta events are still being done that can grant a lot of experience.
There are some mastery points you can get yourself, without a group. Look in your achievements tab, under HoT and story to find anything with green symbols. Some you just need to find locations and interact with them. Some are strong boxes. Others you get from doing an entire chain of events or from story achievements and the Mini games marked on maps with white icons.
I could only find 2 accessories. Bitterfrost zone for unbound magic and winter berries and Ember Bay zone for unbound magic and petrified wood.
My advice is to hang in there. The longer you play in the HoT maps, the more you get to know your enemies and how to deal with them.
Also, when you are running around alone don’t be afraid to change some to some survival utilities or gear if you have it. You can still kill everything in there without the build/gear you would take to a raid.
I was in Path of Fire for a few minutes.
I ended up with some white gear, blue gear, contracts, karma tokens, yellow salvage items, keys, crafting materials, junk, collection item and unidentified.
If I right click my copper fed salvage kit to salvage all green and below, it will salvage the unidentified. This is wrong. This is also not space/time saving because ID STILL splits out into your bags. You also have to sort through everything before salvaging to make sure you don’t salvage unidentified.
To get to ID, you have to clear a heart (which resets daily) and pay 1 silver 63 copper PER item. I opened 7 and got greens, crafting materials and one exotic mace with a skin & a nice stat set I’ve never seen before. If I just salvage everything, I might salvage rare/exotics/collection items and never get any of the new skins. I have to hope that fractals will not start dropping unidentified ascended.
It made dealing with loot more complicated/costly and reduced the value of the copper fed kit.
In addition, import things (pet items, id function, recipes) are locked behind hearts that RESET daily, behind collections and behind bounties. With that and dailies for every zone and new resource gathering to get gear stats you can’t get with laurels, guild missions, fractals, pvp or wvw, it’s all BUSY work.
I much preferred the game when it was a living story with frequent new and big events/happenings and less busy work. Even in HoT everyone seems so busy and separate outside of raids/guild missions.
I know this is only a demo, and I have yet to see the full game, but with game set to release 9/22, I don’t see how any of this will change.

I read the wiki. That was not the problem.
I was trying to explain that one instructor was there, next was not, the third was NOT, 4th, 5th were there, 7th was not, etc… That’s what I was confused about. Two stands right near each other and one is working and the other is not. Broken/Disabled stands mixed in with working stands.
Underwhelming demo. Hope the finished product is more engaging.
I only played demo a short time, and never even found where they sold an ID kit… that said, I’m missing something here. People say it saves space, but what happens when you identify everything? Doesn’t it spread out into individual slots?
If it does, then it is not space saver, it is a gold sink and another kit you have to worry about buying/dealing with.
Everything was fine the way it was. I didn’t have full bank slots opened or even 20 slot bags. I did fine. The only time I didn’t was when I had a ton of things from a collection. THAT could have been fixed, not this.
I don’t know… I want the bounties to just be great bosses that show up suddenly and have people jump in and everyone gets credit. That’s fundamental GW2. Go fetch is not.
Part of the problem is probably that the camera ZOOMS OUT when you mount and ZOOMS IN when you dismount. I don’t have motion sickness but I HATE the zooming in and out. I have to keep zooming back out after dismounting.
Played yesterday past where you get your mount and can dye it. Today no MOUNT, not attached to character, no X side box, not shown in dye panel. It’s just gone. I am standing at the Askim heart. Tried to complete that again, on foot, and it won’t let me interact with the food.
Curious if anyone else having this problem changed the mount key bindings, and if that has anything to do with missing mount? I remapped mine.
(edited by Zoria.1392)
I was only in the PoF demo about an hour today and was not having a lot of fun. Nothing really grabbed me after the initial cutscene/fight. The mount is ok, but, in some cases, all the mount/dismount/look for the next leap was just a nuisance to me. If ALL the maps/exploration/mastery/expansion is built just around the leaping/hopping/planing of the mounts, it just won’t be my thing.
I’ll try again tonight when there are more people around and see how it goes the rest of the weekend. I’m especially interested in next weekend, with the new specializations.
Look at every single achievment tab. There are going to be things in there that you find fun. Also look at event timers for world bosses and the achievements that go with them.
There are also jumping puzzles, dungeons, activities (mini games), collections and random stuff to go after. There is PvP and WvW, crafting, Exploration with Vistas, hidden places. A lot of the achievements took me to cool places I never would have seen without doing them.
I also would have missed half the activities, and lots of mastery points in HOT without looking at those.
Basically, don’t GRIND, just do a little bit of everything and you won’t get bored.

Every video I’ve seen people go to all 20 instructors and answer questions. When I get to the some of the stations they are empty, no instructor/no color, just an empty stand. Is there something I need to do to make them reappear? Or is this bugged?
I can confirm both of the things, above.
You can get it on any character, BUT, if you have other collections open it may go to one of those first. If you 100% want it on a particular specialization FIRST, kill the mushroom on that class.
This issue has been brought up all on reddit/forums and when I sent a ticket they told me to post it here.
I know everyone is going to say to stop holding jump but I am NOT holding it. I can do the same exact jump down 5 little tiles and on the 6th it will randomly deploy and put me over the edge. It should NEVER deploy when you are doing quick/tiny/bunny hops across a bunch of stones. My ping is high and my computer is old. There is nothing I can do about either one at the moment.
I completed every jumping puzzle in original GW2 without a mesmer. I LOVED Mad King Tower puzzle and got up there the first year without incident— even with the giant Norn/Charr blocking my Asuara.
It’s just the glider randomly deploying, that is ruining— making impossible— the HOT/S3 jumping puzzles/collections.
I am having a ton of lag since after the announcement today. I don’t know what the patch/update did… maybe it’s not related, but seems odd timing.
I think the impression came from two things. Little about them in the preview, and the follow up with WP saying they just do a little of everything, when specifically asked.
That’s where we are right now, a little of everything but not really good at anything. I loved my guardian before they changed the original skill trees. I played Guardian, exclusively. The PVE HOT meta made me not want to play it anymore— especially when guild leaders and raid leaders told me they would never bring a Dragonhunter to a raid unless there was absolutely no one else.
I am waiting to see for myself, and hoping for the best.
Real life problems and responsibilities took me out of the game for quite some time. Before that I did every story achievement and tried to keep up gearing to the highest level.
I’ve been back a month and am completely overwhelmed because everything is locked behind prerequisites. I’ve been working on mastery unlocks and experience grinding but then there are a million story achievements, hero points to get for all characters, raiding, multiple dailies of every map and category and collections galore.
I don’t know if it’s better to just ignore all the dailies/collections/story achievements and wait for new expansion or try to catch up with everything?
Catching up seems impossible at this point.
What are the things I should be focusing on so that I’ll, at least, be ready for new expansion? Thanks!
I had trouble even seeing what was on the second boss’s platform. So many effects and crazy lighting made me not want to be there at all.
I have used LFG all the way up to lvl 70 and have been able to adapt to any group or fractal. I didn’t get far in this and it very much turned me off.
I have to play with all my settings at lowest and still I could barely see the platform & what was going on on the second boss in Tier 3. I haven’t had much practice with the special skill button and it required a lot of use on the second boss— which is fine, but sudden.
Overall, I agree with the person who said it was too much and that some of the clutter could be eliminated and make it a fun fractal. I can’t speak to the length as my group did not complete.
I am in North America and have a flexible schedule. I can be on in the hours between 4pm & 4am server time.
Looking for someone to help me with this achievement. Lvl 80 Season 2, chapter 8
Hi Eyelogix, I just got to those too. I have all but Rock Dodger done. We could complete them together. I’ll try to find you in game, or you can message me.
I am looking for the merchants that sell gear from dungeon tokens. I haven’t played in a few years. Last time I did Lion’s arch was gone.
Based on community, lack of grind and walls of text, and freedom to roam/join/do/skip whatever you like— I’d say GW2.
Based on only the four I’ve played a good amount of time (Guardian, Elementalist, Mesmer and Engineer) and your question for a good “starting class to learn basics” and is also good in a group: Guardian
They are great survivalists. They seem to have a set of skills/counters/weapons for almost everything in PVE. Groups like guardians as they can provide a wide array of buffs and counters.
Learning how those buffs and counters work as you level is a great way to learn the game.
That said, they are NOT just a support class. They can do crazy burst damage where needed, farm easily and can solo things others can’t. When I can’t get something done on one of my other classes , I usually just swap to my guardian and finish it.

June 8, between 7pm-8pm UTC, Guild Bounty 3 originated on Yak’s Bend.
IP 192 No Barrells. Scallywag was near Provern Shore Way Point, stuck Invlunerable/Bubble and belching, no one could attack/interact. Bounty 3 failed.
Started new Bounty 3, got Scallywag again. Members tried porting in/out to get a different megaserver. Got IP 194 (near different WP) Scallywag spawns but no one can interact with him. Bounty 3 failed.
Started 3rd Bounty 3, got Scallywag for third time. Most members get IP 192/194. One finally got a new megaserver (originating from Blackgate) and Scallywag could be completed. Bounty 3 success.
This bug is not new and continues to cause bounty failures:

These are ways I’ve geared all my characters:
“Heart”/Karma Vendors – check the vendors that appear after you finish a heart.
Champion/World Boss Farming – Tequatl, Triple Wurm and many of the Champions around the world drop a ton of green armor/weapons and some Rares/Exotics/Ascended.
Dungeons, especially fractals.
Special Events/Living Story Events: Often they have events with bosses or lots of mobs that will drop a lot of green gear and some rares/exotics.
The vendors at the end game cathedrals have fulls sets of exotic gear, backpieces and accessories for just Karma.
1. Skills stop working. I press the key but nothing happens. It is nto the normal lag where they will flash. Just nothing happens. On an engineer I can equip a kit but not use any of the skills. Regular wepaon skills do not work either. I also can not revive a player but I can way point.
2. Yak’s Bend in World vs World
3. I don’t know
4. I don’t know
5. For me it isn’t at the peak of battle when most players are alive. It is usually toward the end when the revives start. BUT— it continues long after the battle and no matter where I go on the map. Even if I waypoint and go somewhere alone, nothing will work.
6. Approximately 50
I would also try antique gold.
Colors vary depending on armor piece, not just type (light/heavy/med.) Your best bet is to spend some time trading post previewing colors on the exact armor.
Some may be silly but here goes:
Race a friend through Pirate Jumping Puzzle, or any other puzzle, for some gold or ore
Organize a group to capture a temple
Use PVP lockeroom to come up with a new look, look up where to find PVE equivalents and obtain
Try to get to your next Achievement chest
Try to complete achievements that are almost complete
Try to progress a specific achievement within a mini game (Crab Toss, Keg Brawl, Sanctum Sprint, etc)
Level Cooking to top level
Explore a map zone you are not familiar with for exploring sake, not even to clear it, enjoy the silly npc’s or side conversations or interesting finds, gather at leisure
Try a jumping puzzle you haven’t completed without looking at a video first
Finish the current Living Story
Design a new character even if you don’t want to play it now
Find timers and go after World Bosses (guest on a busy server if yours is empty)
Kill Tequatl, chance at nice stuff 1x per day (fun fight)
Run Fractals, go after achievements while doing so, nice reward 1xper day
Try to Solo a champion
Change up roaming vs zerg in WvW or go for specific achiements
Change up your build, gear and weapons from time to time
Play the trading post to try and make gold
Play the mystic forge
Find out where Quagan potions are, or other goofy stuff and go get
Find out where people got that cool weapon/armor piece and go get one
Level a craft to 500
Craft Ascended weapons or gear
Experiment to see if you can make profit on any item in crafting professions
Liquidate some inventory to buy something fun or frivolous off trading post
Run dungeon paths you rarely run
Run for twilight arbor achievements/chests if anyone still runs that
Spectator some PvP when you don’t feel like playing anymore
and the usual… level alts, gear alts, come up with look for alts, more WvW, PvP and PVE, Daily PVE, Daily PVP, Monthly PVE and PVP
I don’t know anything about the guild stuff available but others mentioned.

Item: Hellfire Mantle
Please, can these be reduced in size (bigger than her head) and attach to the shoulders instead of float in mid air?
I did my 20 and probably won’t do anymore. I still like the Halloween puzzle best but removing the people made it a million times easier— almost too easy.
If having trouble, try the gingerbread path. That’s the one I could repeat even if giant characters were hiding my asura. It was easy to memorize and I never ran out of time.
For presents, wait for a fresh batch and make a running jump before the blue presents land. Try to go straight up.
If you get up the presents super fast, you might arrive just as the wind is blowing. Dodge roll across the round peppermint and jump onto candy stick to avoid wind.
Jump immediately on to path after each snowball rolls by, do not hesitate.
When jumping off path toward big box, jump FAST off that first blue box or you will get hit. You can relax after you clear that first box, you have time.
Has this been fixed yet?
My female asura is still making an ugly scream that she never did the first year I played. It’s like she’s being tortured or something. It seemed to come in around the time that the nighmare/hallucination stuff started but it happens no matter what the content, now. Unlike others I can’t pinpoint any spell. It’s more like when she’s taking damage. It started after Liadri and before the new Fractals.
Thanks for all the time on these answers. #2 was really the same question as #1 but in reverse. My team would be on the ground trying to bust into a keep while the enemy is up high, out of range, hitting us with seige.
I wasn’t using Ether to heal so didn’t have the swiftness on the heal and wasn’t using the reverse fire spell which I didn’t even think of. Will do that if I ever go back to staff.
Love the through the door stuff. LOL
Lots of great advice and tips.
In the end I’ve made a D/D build that I really enjoy in any scenario. Thanks so much for the time you took to answer.
Just going by “fun” and “looks” I’d say either Elementalist or Mesmer but these things are so personal. I have the most fun using Dagger/Dagger on the Elementalist, not the staff. Mesmer I swap all the weapons/builds around all the time, no real preference.
