Reasons for Massive Warrior Nerf.

I think I can.

With the new slew of Elite Specs coming out, people are worried that ANet is just power creeping the new specs, and nerfing the older specs is part of some devious plan to incentivize the newer ones.

While a tiny portion of this fear is legitimate, there’s a more realistic expectation: You see, GW2 was never supposed to be about elite specs being a straight upgrade, but rather a different option for your character to have in a given situation. Berserker, for example, provides lots of stun breaks, decent CC, and some condi-damage support previously lacking on Warrior. Until now, with the way the class worked, Berserker was a 100% upgrade over base Warrior. Now, on the other hand, that is being changed, and you see this across the board: Elementalist’s Tempest elite spec is being driven more towards its support theme, Reaper is being steered away from condi-damage because it was always supposed to be a tanky, melee-oriented power elite, etc.

Basically, what’s happening is that elite specs are being turned into OPTIONS for characters, rather than straight upgrades. Even Spellbreaker is limited to TWO adrenaline bars, which means it STILL won’t have the sustain of three bar bursts. It’s a good direction for the game to take, even if it has immediate consequences that are difficult to predict.

if this was the case they wouldve started these nerfs years ago. not until a few months before their new elite spec came out. they ruined zerker for this.

OP wants an icd on an ability that is another, among many, overly bloated abilities for thief. Spamming dodges to break immobilizes when thieves multiple means to do so is unhealthy for balanced gameplay.

OP doesn’t realize the last 2 balance patches have seen nerfs to Thieves Evades and Endurance regeneration.

It’s funny the complaints are coming from someone that plays a class with on demand access to Resistance Spam which negates all movement impairing effects.

What’s funny is I play every single profession in this game, more than most of you. When classes that have a minimal way of gaining distance from a thief and he just random kittenollolol dodges out of it, you’ll begin to recognize the broken nature of dash. I can be objective in my criticism of abilities.

Also, I don’t know where you’re getting that I play something with on demand resistance spam as my profession.

Bravo! We found a winner! This is what thief should be all about (according to devs) -
run away! Whole reason why they gutted every other aspect if thief to june patch was their idea of thief being decap pet/janitor. Running away is part of that “design”.

Also, why do you have such issue with thief running away in pvp? It would mean you won the fight and point is yours now.

oh i dont. i also dont think we should be nerfing thief. no matter how much people cry and thief players cry thief is neither overpowered or underpowered. it plays its roll correctly and doesnt step out of bounds. if thief started 1v1ing most of the classes while maintaining their movement speed and stealth id have a issue. but we are far from that currently. my comment was just pointing out its to stop thief’s from resetting a fight not mobility, no sense misrepresenting the argument.

im curious how your supposed to survive. if you take that skill and drop unblockable signet your going to get rekt by dh and mesmers. if you get rid of your resistance your going to get rekt by every condi class. if you take it instead of endure pain you no longer have decent sustain against power. so im curious what your going to slot and why? everyone likes to complain as if warrior has all skills active at once.

Which skill? The only one I mentioned was Headbutt plus two traits. Those don’t compete with utility skills

im not in game but you mentioned the 1k toughness stun break skill as if every warrior slots it. so what do you get rid of and still survive in this meta to take that.

Funny enough that headbutt had an in-built nerf by stunning the attacker as well for 1sec. It’s actually the only elite skill that has a real drawback. On the other hand, there seem to be classes that have only lackluster elite skills… okay, I get it

You’re kidding, right? It’s a non existent drawback if you trait to break stun on entering berserk, and it’s an opportunity to get a quick heal and 1k toughness if you trait it with RR. If you use it to break a stun too, there’s 5k healing, toughness bonus, a stunned target, and you ready to unleash holy hell.

(I saw what you did at the end of the quoted bit though, so I know you aren’t QQing yourself)

No, sustain WAS the problem. I’m completely fine with warrior doing insane amounts of damage, just don’t tank everything I have while you’re doing it. Thank god war has to actually play the game now instead of rely on passives.

Sure, how good a class is, is measured by how many buffs/nerfs it received.

Power rev had 25% of it damage removed by removal of proc sigils. We’ll see about condi rev tho.

regardless my opinion on rev this is wrong. a class is not only measured by its buffs and nerfs but by the buffs and nerfs to the classes around it also.

Warrior is directly reflecting this concept in their changes.

The biggest worry is still a generous tilt in the appeal of condi builds, but I think it’s best at this point to wait out the changes and see how we adapt.

Poorly though in my opinion. 10% nerf to passive healing from signet is pretty big superficially, but they are still healing for about 475 health every second if they keep T3 adrenal health up, and that is still absolutely trivial to do since primal burst skills still count as T3 adrenaline skills.

Oh please. Warrior is in a much better state now than it was pre patch and you know it. The amount of personal sustain that it had was beyond broken for how much offensive pressure it could put out.

i think warrior is fine now. but you want to nerf it even more. you want it to be completely useless so you dont have to see it in que anymore.

Considering it took them 2 years, they could have done 2 sets. Or an alternate acquisition methos (as it seems this time it was the graphics, not acquisition mechanics, that slowed them down).

i think people believe they know more about the development process than they actually do and just want to take other peoples toys away because they dont want to earn them. raiding isnt for everyone. pvp isnt for everyone. fractals isnt for everyone. does that mean we should get rid of all the skins exclusive to that content because not everyone wants to do it?

Like The Ascension isn’t tied to PvP and Ad Infinitum isn’t tied to Fractals of the Mists? Both require you to play a LOT in their respective modes.

The point is, I have an option if I want a back item between two very different game modes. Not so for armour.

Here’s little info how much each heals gives

Healing
Comparisons between our heals to show how much hp/min you heal with them:
Healing Signet – 382 hp every 1 sec * 60 = 22,920 hp/min
Mending – 6520hp every 20 sec * 3 = 19,560 hp/min
To the limit– 9100 hp every 30 sec (with full adrenaline) = 18,200 hp/min
Defiant Stance – varies too much(1853 base)
To the limit has little use now due to the fact that adrenaline is lost quickly when not in combat. ]
Hot healing:Blood reckoning 3230hp/20 sec*3= 9260hp/min

Didn’t he stop playing well before HoT during that epic content drought? Something worth noting though is that healing sig scales terribly while both mending and to the limit scale really well with healing power, especially the latter with vigorous shouts. I miss shoutbow.

Well, if you want to use healing for real then you will probably not take the signet as it only heals yourself. This also shows to me that there is something seriously wrong. A signet that heals you all the time without having the possiblity of being interrupted / not timed correctly should never result in more healing than the other available skills. The signet will always give you the maximum amount of healing whereas the other skills can be used too early / too late … which are disadvantages.

Well the counter to healing signet used to be keep poison on the warrior as it reduced the healing by a lot and short of using the signet or using zerker stance the warrior couldn’t do that much about it. Bearing in mind this was before HoT where warrior condition cleansing they had to mostly build for and run weapons that were support and not damage orientated, trooper runes, traited warhorn etc.

What HoT and berserker brought though was incredible condition clearing potential via cleansing ire and the insanely fast recharging of lvl 3 burst skills thus completely negating yet another balancing point.

To add, the advantages of a skill you use to heal is that it lets you wait out poison to heal at full and choose when to heal, this is a trade off for going HS which because of above is no longer a trade off.

Yea, poison doesn’t really work against a class with such ridiculous resistance uptime and condi cleanse at the same time.

that resistance gets cut down by a ton the second we use healing signet. you do realize it doesnt work on cooldown correct? you cant have a passive heal AND have insane resistance.

When I remember those good ol’ days of hangin’ around in Kamadan or LA for hours only to buy this or that and then, as a casual, never knowing if that one person had just put me over the barrel… I’d rather stick with the current system, thank you.

So… exactly like real life? What’s wrong with that? It teaches people to educate themselves before making a purchase or trade.

What’s right with that? This isn’t EVE online — people aren’t here to become shrewd at trading; they came to play an epic RPG and trading is incidental.

It can be fun for a game to copy parts of RL; it’s not fun for it to mimic all aspects .

again with the RPG nonsense, there is no single component of any other RPG in the world that this game has, GW2 is an MMO, not an RPG

halfwrong gw2 is a mmorpg. Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. unless you are actually a hero of tyria and fight dragons irl this is in fact a rpg also. if i wanted absolutely horrible trading that took a entire lifetime to amass wealth i would just do it irl and make tons of money with that gamble. i play games for fun not for a headache of realism.

If you want to dps as a mesmer there are some bosses that you can play as Cond mesmer as matthias or MO or Cairn.
Now as a chrono you dont need to be the tank you can be the second job but your role will not be tanking or dpsing, your goal is to provide 100% uptime of quickness and alacry.

also youll want to learn how to tank and be a support chrono. once you learn both of those positions and get enough experience unlike other classes youll be asked to raid constantly by friends you make. theres tons of ps warriors dps druids etc. theres barely any chronos.

The whole rant about how raids don’t have a reward system that will keep people interested in it is also silly. First of all the reward is the content. Raids are designed extremely well, and have a well-written story. Secondly, they offer a good chance each week at getting ascended weapons and trinkets. (My bank is so full of raiddropped ascended weapons i’m running out of space). Besides that they offer cool unique skins and mini’s. And you also have tokens that allow you to buy asc gear, the unique skins, ghostly infusions (worth 200g).

Saying that dungeons are in a good place and the tokens keep the gamemode alive but that raids don’t have anything that will keep people interested is so obviously wrong.

Unfortunately, this kind of inexcusable behavior is commonplace in high level raid pugs, and can even rear its head among good friends.

Not true at all. Go to Dragon’s Stand (I did that constantly over the last 3 weeks) and if one tower is not in line with the others, you’ll have that 2-3 rage kiddies among around 60 players playing quietly, trying to help and coordinate the success.
Same with Silverwastes, Fractals, Dungeons (even those days) and not to mention: PvP.

You experienced a very rare situation in GW2. Such things happen in every video game. If you are really not abusive you don’t have to worry anything. Just block such individuals and go on. No need to pause the game because you met some bad apples. There are enough friendly peeps out there.

dragons stand is a whole new level of toxicity ive never seen in raids. one time a commander was needed for north. had never commanded it before just followed the leader previously. so i took over. told people to focus on targets and keep moving you know the usual for the final boss. i had like 12 people all chewing me out and putting me down for it. ended up leaving and they ended up not taking over and failing horribly.

It allowed certain builds to do massive damage – for example it made it possible to solo bandits from the current event bounties by using it for a massive burst. It has the potential to spoil the fun of anyone who wanted to actually do the event properly. Having seen first-hand the toxicity that has occurred in the past when people have had competing agendas over events (like fail-farming in Orr), then it’s worth fixing this.

Not really, you still occasionally get groups doing it with the event to capture Shank Anchorage at the start of the Gates of Arah chain.

Fail farming Orr and Orr Karma trains were constant back then, no mega servers, so once you were done on one server, you guested to another server who broke the event for more farming or training. Trains would start and finish and restart every 5 minutes.

Long time ago…. prob closer to 5 years now, not sure how you can say “not really”to something that used to happen frequently.

I can say not really to 4 years ago because I’ve seen it happen in the past few weeks – yes it is a lot less frequent now, but it isn’t something that exclusively happened back then, it’s occurred pretty much throughout the game’s existence, and still happens now.

but seeing todays standard and comparing it to back then, today is bugger all. You’d almost say this is a dead game when comparing to back then.

do you have numbers on population to be able to say this like a fact? i havnt seen any yet besides that 16k people use bgdm

if i had a dollar for every time soneone who mains another class and posts on a forum about how they just copy pasted a build on another class and wrecked everyone id be very rich now.

I am not saying warrior isnt strong but ive seen this type of post way too often.

Don’t you think that says something about how poorly class skill level is balanced though? The fact that someone can pick up an entirely new class and copy a build someone else made, without understanding it, and still perform better than on their main?

I can say i picked up an ele now and wrecked everyone with it eventhough its my first time playing,but you just have to take my word for it right.

My point was ive seen players who mained warrior and go on ranger forum and say they wrecked people after playing only a few matches copy pasting metabattle etc. Same with people who say they mained thief and then logged onto a DH and surprise surprise they were wrecking people esp thieves. I personally a couple seasons ago decided to try Scrapper and was amazed at how much survivability i had when i had only a dozen matches under my belt. I literally coudnt die. (of course Scrapper has been nerfed a lot since).

And as Caedmon says there as also been a ton of people who just want the alt class to be nerfed and so they will just post on the forums about how they facerolled. people.

Show us your Warrior matches you have ever played and record a few ranked matches and show us the stats. Otherwise it means nothing, In fact post your API link for pvp. prove it.

my main assumption is when you do better on other classes is that either 1 they needed a break from their main were getting burned out and playing way worse than normal or 2 they got some lucky matches. some nights you get all wins others all losses too variable to draw a conclusion from. at least with a video we could tell what kind of players they went against and whether they were actually being carried or not.

Dear OP, tell me what class/build can deal with warrior without external help and without losing point. According to you it is a l2p issue so teach us, noobs, how to deal with war.

So, from statements you’ve made, I’m guessing you’ve made a few assumptions about the sort of warrior that you’re up against. Aka, likely the metabattles GS Mace/shield build. So, I’ll make my response from that sort of perspective.

You are asking, what class can spend 8 seconds, able to deal no damage, standing right next to a high damage dealing class, and still win in the end. When you think about that, you’re more or less asking what class can play stupidly against a warrior and still win.

The simple fact is that some classes have abilities which can force people off of point. Invulnerabilities with good DPS, and high AoE DPS are two of those. DHs for example, are more than capable of forcing entire teams off of point, until the traps are done.
Yes, warriors have long cooldowns which enable them to stand in these… But what forces people off has half the cooldown as the warrior’s abilities to stand in those points.
So, yes. You’re up against the standard meta warrior, and he can almost certainly force you off point, and can decap. But you can force him to burn most, if not all of his long cooldowns. And you’ll be able to engage again, when he doesn’t have those skills available.

In short… If you play like an idiot, the warrior will kill you. So, don’t play like an idiot. When people burn their cooldowns to make it so you can’t stand on point, you don’t stand on point. Especially in the case of the warrior, who’s running all melee. He needs to choose between remaining on the point, and decapping, or leaving point without decapping, to kill you while taking advantage of his invulnerabilities.

EDIT:
But I’ll also list off some of the better counters to warriors. Blind spams, chain CC (that’s only one stack of stability from Eternal Champion. So just double CC.), and evades. Thieves and Mesmers are two classes which are harder for warriors to fight.

So basically give up point and lose match because there is no other way around it. Great solution man. Thanks for calling us idiots for trying to keep point which is what pvp is about.

As far as DHs go, engis and eles can sit on point with DH…

they were probably just incentivizing you to stomp over cleaving. which if the enemy has either 2 engies ranger or 1 ranger and engie then stomping is a smart move as they can outrevive alot of cleave.

Though consistency is nice, it’s a poor argument for insisting Anet expend resources to make it so. Without knowing the reason for the difference, little can be surmised. For all we know, that difference is intended and knowing why has no bearing on whether it should be there or not.

honestly even if anet fixed this the same people would find something else to be “fixed” the forums have proven to me raids are not allowed to have ANYTHING unique to them. skins legendarys xp spirit shards rewards nothing.

We just need to compared the game to before and after the condi buffs:

Before = fun, with build variety
After = not fun / frustrating, with no build variety

there is plenty of build variety. almost every class has at least 2 builds they can use.

Sigil and rune swap are meaningless if you can’t also swap Stat infusions. I suggest you stop thinking of legendaries as the replacement for all your other gear and just look at them as cosmetics with upside when a particular Stat set is no longer meta.

you can take out infusions for a really small price tho.

It’s faster and more convenient to swap to an alternate armor set than to extract infusions and reinstall news ones. If this is supposed to be about convenience this isn’t very convenient.

if you have those infusions in your other armor set yes it is just as easy. or are you comparing apples to oranges? you want to compare apples to apples it costs 75 gold currently to remove a sigil/rune it takes 24 silver to remove a infusion.

And Apparently, all projectiles are now unblockable and can’t be absorbed nor reflected!

Hey don’t joke about that one. That basically happened for a while with lots of new encounters all having un-reflectable projectiles because Anet didn’t know what to do with Wall of Reflection and Feedback.

I cheated on that one. I remember a list of Fractal instabilities in the making involved one where all projectiles had the unblockable descriptor.

reflecting the balls back on the second boss in nightmare fractal and doing both of his phases instantly with 7% hp left was so much fun.

I feel like that of all the youtube videos made for gw2 pvp, 80% of them are thieves and the other 20% are mesmers and rangers.

its because its incredibly fun to watch a thief play. extremely active gameplay.and with the lack of cooldowns a thief can go from 1 fight immediately into another. where other classes might need to wait for cooldowns.

Basically playing against a warrior is unforgiving. Make a mistake and you die or can´t kill him while the warrior has room for errors. I can only beat worriors if i watch their toolbar carefully and am patient in what i do kiting and this needs time. Thers no fast kill against a good warrior. It´s no fun for casuals to fight warriors that are average or better. You need to understand the warrior´s capabilities and actualy pay atention to the small icons … And as mentioned a warrior duo is a killing duo that will burst down annything if coordianted.

What are these points youre making ? oh my kittening god. WOW you have to pay attention to when endure pain or berserk is being used instead of randomly hitting kitten…This kitten is hilarious,i just cant..Lmfao.

I think the point is that warrior himself doesn’t have to watch anything…. and can do a lot of mistakes.

yea, and the reason they are worth more than LI is because
Someone with 50 LI can have never beaten a specific boss
but someone with 15 KP has beaten a specific boss 3 to 15 times (since drop rate is random 1-5)
There is one exception which is the Bandit Triate, which doesn’t drop any KP.
so every boss drops 1LI, and 1-5KP, and the KP part is specific per boss, so it’s a much better measurement of experience. Use them to fill up the lack of LI.

When i do VG, I rather have someone with 10LI, and 15 Vale Guardian fragments, than someone with 50LI and 0 Vale Guardian Fragments

The problem of insisting on a certain number of KPs would exclude many players. For example I’m one of three ppl raiding in our little guild and we’d like to have all gold statues. This is why I don’t collect them personally rather than spending them to the guild vendor.
Additionally you can buy a single run, get a KP and according to your system, you’ll have the key to every group then. That’s why ppl demand LI + KP because LI show that you have at least dealt with raids. Ofc you have to look at the numbers. 50 LI have almost 0 meanings nowadays while in a group with a requirement of 200+ LI it is more likely that your group will succeed. Exceptions confirm the rule (I by myself saw a group with 100 LI requirement disbanding at Trio last week ^^).

i dislike the amount continuously going up all the time. makes it impossible to catch up.

While not as clean:

Warrior and Ranger can both use Endure Pain and Stone Signet respectively and then follow up with an elite skill to resurrect up to 5 downed allies. Ranger can stack “Guard” with Protection boon for high damage reduction.

Ele (Tempest) can Rebound to counter death.

Engi (Scrapper) can use Bulwark Gyro on top of stacking Protection for huge damage mitigation. That, or core Engi can combo AED with Toss Elixir R similar to how Warrior and Ranger do.

Thief…umm…Resilience of Shadows? Yeah, I got nothing for that class.

Sure, all of the above don’t achieve the same effect as distortion, but they would achieve the goal of being able to withstand boss attacks other than true killshot attacks that not even distorts works on. Granted I don’t have to stack signets nor invest in certain traitlines (well, Tempest I guess is technically a traitline to get Rebound).

are you sure endure pain and signet of stone work on the vale gaurdians green circle burst? if so then id say its kinda balanced. otherwise it is pretty broken. honestly im against being able to skip mechanics like this entirely. if you have good chronos bosses become even bigger jokes. just look at mighty teapots stream kills. its getting a bit out of hand imo. id rather change all of those mechanics that are like that than let 1 go free because all of them can do it also.

Tbh i don’t feel 1 mechanic should negate so terrifying attacks and make mechanics of any fight meaningless.

In that case we’ll need to roll back:

  • Evades (from endurance and skills)
  • Blocks (from aegis and skills)
  • Stability (where encounter mechanics launch you off platforms)
  • Invulnerability skills
  • Stealth (since it breaks aggro)

Joking aside, Mesmer distortion is fine. Each class has a way to keep them in the fight. At the two extremes you have something like Necro/Warrior that are HP sponges vs Teefs that are ping-ponging evades back-to-back……..to-back-to-back-to-back…[one eternity later]….-to-back (I’m exaggerating here, I know).

Chaining distortions on yourself is fine, but like every other class it’s not free to use your defensive mechanic; it generally costs you slotting a skill, trait, or give up up-time on something (damage/boons, primarily).

As far as the timing being “too easy” for team distorts. Well, that depends on the player. Seeing how the game is geared towards more casually players a 1s window may actually be pretty tight. Yes, I realize that this is a case of #GetGud if you can’t nail the 1s team distort window but, then again, I recognize that the skill of the average gamer of GW2 will still find that window a challenge.

Hint: 40 evergreen slivers (I think? whatever the base thing that drops is) will double click their way to the lodestones needed, no crafting involved. I may be off on the number, whether that makes 1 or 5 lodestones. But check your bank for slivers, you may be swimming in them.

You get them by killing Oakhearts. Even in regular Tyria.

you also got a ton of them from running AB which since everyone has stopped doing it the supply has also dropped.

Firstly, that was someone else that said to stack there.

Secondly, I didn’t help because it’s funnier that way. Me joining was entirely just to see what’d happen in one of these “40 FARM ZERKS EXP ONLY” groups. I was honestly expecting to get instantly kicked for playing necro.

Thirdly I could solo it from a fresh start but my lifeforce was too low at that point in the video and my health as well. Not to mention the reset was kind of an utter buzzkill.

Fourthly: I did say slightly, didn’t I? It’s the same fractal level and some of the people are fairly toxic.

i think the key word here is some. the group was bad sure but thats why people want better comps than that. people who seriously do it. if im forming a group and i want specific classes in that group thats my choice. your not allowed to force me to do otherwise. same as i cant stop you from making your own group of random classes and doing what you want. so what is the op asking for? does he want people banned for this? i honestly have no idea.

If you can average 20k while using BGDM on any boss, then you’re better than the vast majority of pugs.

always loved out dpsing dps classes on my ps. was quite sad too.
