I play power reaper almost exclusively in PvE lately. Obviously not in raids but in fractals where the “meta” isn’t as strongly enforced.

Power reaper is definetly tankier than most builds.

Issue is it being more sustainable has no bearing in raids. So its kind of a mute point. Who cares how tanky a class is if the cost is damage. Thats the mentallity of hte current pve community.

In raids a power reaper is kind of wierd. It can stand in the black during gorsevals aoe’s and keep dpsing. It can survive the damage of sabetha’s final phases with minimal need for aid.

Ironically if a PURE tank was necessary in this game. A power reaper would be one of the best contenders. With access to a large amount of damage reduction, toughness stacking abilities. And abilities that enable a tank style reaper to deal more damage than any other “tank” build in the game currently does.

But none of that MATTERs in the current raid.

For example never losing dps uptime on gorseval doesn’t really matter in part because there are no methods of recording how much damage the reaper can do vs other classes that have to move out of the black. Does being able to stand in seekers and continue dpsing while using shroud to tank the hits close the gap in dps. With no way to actually see it ourselves the only thing we can do is say “well the potential damage of a theif or ele is MUCH higher”.

If an ele goes down they lose alot of dps. Meanwhile the necro is still dpsing just the same through whatever hit took the ele down. Hell the necro is probably the one ressing the ele. How much dmg does the ele really lose compared to the necro in that situation. How much dps gain is the necro responsible for returning to the grp while rezzing that ele in whatever damage field might have killed him.

There just isn’t a way to tell in the current game. So those situations might as well not exist in the current game as far as the playerbase is concerned. Only anet has really any idea what a power reaper ACTUALLY contributes through its large hp pool vs what it costs.

As far as Necro’s gaining group support. Honestly unless said group support was horrendously overpowered who cares? Do you REALLY think any amount of grp support they give a necro is going to outweight the massive damage boosts a druid gives? Or the sheer power of a chrono? Without it being brokenly overpowered?

Fat chance. There’s already a concern among rangers that the next elite spec for them is just going to be flat out ignored because people will still demand they run druid for the heals+buff combo. Making it a dead xpac for them class wise. (Wich sucks for people that don’t enjoy being buff kittenes like the game has forced them to be since release but still enjoy the class)

so a couple things. 1 it isnt just raids we have to think about with balancing. what do you think its going to happen in every other game mode (including fractals) if necro gets just as much dps as ele? in any mode why would we bother bringing ele anymore? why bring any dps besides necro? its tanky it does max damage. they have no place anymore. necro rotation is easy as pie. you spam moves constantly and do dps. ele has to actually think about what they do. does necro need a buff overall? yes. but the op isnt asking for a buff. hes asking to do more dps than any other class for no tradeoff.

Checked all “confusion + ua”, “non-dodge shatters” , “daredevil’s escapist absolution doesn’t work on illusion’s attacks” bugs with friend in spvp (each “bug” was checked multiple times):
1) Confusion + ua bug – doesn’t exist. Inflicted confusion (confusion was inflicted in several ways, UA with/without Enchanted daggers, etc ), then checked damage dealt after only 1 UA. Then did same thing, but with another skill (any other then UA). Damage dealt same: 1 UA = 1 any other skill (+usual conf ticks over time). HP % left equals in all tests (except Enchanted daggers was used ofc = more health left in this casa, still no multiple active confusion procs during UA)
2) Non “evadable” shatters bug – don’t exist. When illusion came close (on shatter distance), friend dodged (towards clone, if u dodge away when illusion haven’t reached shatter distance – most chances u don’t know how shatters works) = no damage dealt
3) Escapist absolution + illusions = seems doesn’t exist. Inflicted ~12sec confusion, summoned phantasmal mage, mage attacked friend, friend dodged phantasm attack = confusion is cleared. I din’t attack (stowed weapon). Din’t check with clones, but I suppose that result wouldd be the same.

The argument that necro has more HP is not so good, because the flat damage rates make it so we die with 2 hits instead of a single one, not much improvement if you ask me. Specially because other classes employ many active defenses (the amount of vigor, dodges and extra blocks/invulns on other classes compared to necro is amazing).

So, while we do have the highest HP pool by playing necro (both flat HP and the Shroud bar) it does nothing to actually help us achieve survivability, and it’s only so good during fractals because we can mitigate small damage that would otherwise build over time (something other classes can do with blocks and vigor).

Furthermore, we aren’t even the masters of condition play, because our signets and traits can easily be replaced by support druid and tempest. What amount of conditions we can actually transfer doesn’t add much to our personal damage at all.

A big HP pool should not translate into small damage; hell, there are so many games where the Necromancer/Blood Mage/Dark Arts caster has high HP because his spells actually cost health to use, hence being a fine tradeoff, and it would fit GW2 really well. What we have now is a travesty of a Necro: we’re not doing damage, we’re not being masters of cursing everyone, and we’re not even actually putting our true life force (our HP) to use.

a high hp pool. which lets you survive longer than any other class. and you have to sacrifice nothing to do so. means you should NOT be on par with eles who have half your hp and no shroud.eles risk more. so they earn more. thats how balance works. should necros get the changes reverted? yes they were in a fine spot pre nerf. they didnt deserve the nerf. should they get insanely high dps for nothing? no.

so you just recommend he afk’s in spawn then right? mesmers never stop applying confusion. if you cant clear it (rev cant) your dead.

If you have a large amount of stacks you can kite away and leave the point. On a Rev you have lots of blocks, evades, and other ways to avoid the confusion all together. I personally don’t try to 1v1 a condi mesmer on point though when playing my rev…..that’s just me tho.

Or you know Anet could actually try some QA and fix this bug since it’s right now the only multi hit skill that has this bug…..

His wording is that1 UA attack procs 1 confusion damage. He goes to say that he’s getting hit for 5 confusion procs per UA use. That means he is being penalized for each of the 5 attacks of UA.

WORKING AS INTENDED PEOPLE.

Now if he was getting 10 procs of confusion per 1 UA use THAT would be a bug. This is simple a user error problem not an actual bug

The only class in the game that dosent require dodging and can just spam cooldowns like blocks and invul while standing still and dropping AoE damage. Despite how easy it is to play this class it also too rewarding for the amount of effort required. It also hard counters thief, mes , warrior , necro and invo rev and the other match ups it can stalemate so basically Dh dosent even lose to any class 1v1 ( unless you use some useless build made for 1v1 )

Combine that with the fact that normal games dont have proper class distribution system and even if 2 builds out of dozens are good vs DH you will most likely not have them in your solo Q to counter a stacked Dh trapper team.

Just give me a reason to play any other classs than DH in a normal ranked or unranked game. if I can just stand still and spam AoE damage while blocking half of the time and the other half being invul.

Something needs to be done about DH . Either cut the block duration in half or make it at least weak to condis.

The fact of the matter is a stacked Dh trapper team in solo Q is nearly impossible to beat with pugs so the pro league balance dosent matter to 99% of the player base. DH trapper is very OP in normal games that are not team vs team or the pro league games. Because you cant have an optimal comp and team coordination to take this build down especially when stacked together.

Its also the only class that I see stacked the most. teams with 3 warriors, 3 thieves, 3 mesmers, 3 eles or whatever dosent happen very often compared to teams with 3 DHs. I wonder why so many people play it well I think I know why…

I have tip for you – get to diamond in season 5 and you will discover that DH’s started to mysteriously disappear from most of your matches…wise people say that DH’s are weak to people who dodge.

actually all through season 4 people who were in diamond kept saying there was 4+ dh’s per game. not that i think its op or anything.

Only if they are a bad players.

obviously. but necros can be equally bad and tank like crazy. which is why if you want to do that dps you have to take the same tradeoff. again go play those classes. feel their pain. then come ask for buffs. until then stop trying to be everything in 1.

I’ve seen a lot of posts about Druid condi being one of the best in the games but I really enjoy the DD style more. I have asceneded gear (direct and condi) for both my DD and druid but I’m just no seeing any DD love in raids.

Are DD really that far out of raid meta?

even though DD is useful condi ranger can also be a secondary druid for mirror comp.

I used to QQ so much about dragoncancers that I have salt supply for a lifetime. As a macebow war I just couldn’t win even against bad players, mediocre players were just wiping the floor with me. But after practice and using Signet of Might just for them, I just destroy them. With them, I mean mediocre players and below. Good dragoncancers will still beat me (have to git gud) but at least it will take them some more time than before. Everything is about practice.
Now if only I could find a way to not getting absolutely annihilated by mesmers… and I mean mediocre mesmers. I believe someone like Helseth could kill me with a clone or something…

switch to power. dh still cant kill you and mesmers cant get a shatter off cause your 1 hitting all their clones. its great. just dont get moa’ed

I will have a biased opinion on this because I can’t speak from the perspective of classes other than Druid, but here’s what I think:

Mesmer is not OP at all when it comes to how it performs in teamfights and 1v1s because, like condi warrior or staff theif, Mesmer is one of the classes that tests your ability to dodge. If you have slow reactions and can’t dodge, you will get wrecked but if you know animations and what to dodge, it’s a won 1v1. How all classes should be in my opinion. Dodge the shatters of the Mesmer and especially the moa and you win. If you can’t dodge these with a very high level of consistency, then sorry to say, but you deserve to lose. That is what I always told myself when trying to improve and it applies to everyone else as well. Of course if you play something like necro with limited dodges, this will be hard but like I said, I can only speak from my own experience.

What Mesmer does that keeps it in the meta over other classes is the ability to portal. There is no counter to this when facing on organised team other that run another Mesmer. No other class can teleport and entire team across a map instantly like Mesmer. THAT is what makes it good, but again, not enough to make it OP because it does not over perform in other areas.

in regards to moa. my warrior brings his mace above his head in a slow animation easy to dodge. moa is basically a insta death and animation is a little purple ball at their hands like literally everything else they do. dodging moa isnt skill. its pure luck.

Tonics e.g. trigger weapon swap sigils and reset pet swap cd. These are some examples why they cannot be used in raids.

But don’t most sigils have an internal cooldown that is the length of the weapon swap? So even if you were to able mimic a weapon swap, it would have no effect because the sigil is on cooldown.

I’ve also never heard of tonics resetting pet swap cooldown, and who would want to do that anyways? Seems like a bad idea to even want to do that as you can swap pets as anyways.

resetting my pet swap cd would be INSANELY op in raids. i could provide a ton of CC and full furry uptime the entire fight.

I feel really sad that the super rich lost some gold on their massive ecto investments,
but, when they “do something” I hope it is to expand multi-looting across the game.
It creates a strong motivation to group and provides decent loot for motivating guilds to work together as a guild.

A guardian can use Staff to build near-permanent switftness. The swiftness stack lasts longer than the cooldown on the staff skill. So, each time the staff skill comes off cd, stop and build switfness.

Over time it’s possible to stack an impressive amount of quickness and run far and fast.

i have a friend that farmed sw and had 3 mins of swiftness on guardian constantly.

I would support this with a 3-vote minimum requirement. I’ve seen hardcore comebacks, and I don’t want quitters surrendering the game when there still is a chance. Maybe more than 200 point difference, and opponent has more than 350 points.

as with all of this all we would see is members surrendering and afking from the start. doesnt matter what limitations you put on it. it would be negative.

Quartz crystals, lore wise, are tied to the Zephyrites. They were the sole source and their ship crashed in Dry Top so now quartz is only found in Dry Top, other than what was sold to player’s for their home instance when they were at the Labyrinthine Cliffs. That’s why they are in little pots rather than outcroppings like other ore.

I think that lore is an insufficient justification for mechanics that lead to frustrated gamers. There’s no particular reason why the developers can’t figure out a way for Quartz to pop up somewhere else (the easiest I can think of: Skritt stealing Quartz crystals from the Zephyrite crash site and dropping them near some bloodstone dust, which goes splode-ee-ode-nodey).

However, there are economic implications of adding new quartz supplies and that might be why ANet is content with the status quo.

Without lore you don’t have world building. Sure, someday we may go to the crystal desert and find fields of quartz to satiate everybody’s desire, but it’s simply a mineral not found around these parts.

ive had games where we most certaintly were going to lose. we had a comp disadvantage we were being outplayed hard our entire team wiping. as the game went on we start forcing them to split up which would allow us to outrotate them and end up winning by very few points. we were a solid 200 points behind. this has happened so many times i cant even count it. and is the reason i vote no for a surrender option. ive also won several games with a teammate dced. some of them were complete faceroll.

I don’t get how that’s obviously not true … If VG was balanced around some optimal comp, how could it be completed with 3 people … player skill is important but the fact is that raids need some minimum DPS to succeed before hitting rage. If Anet is balancing around some minimum amount of damage to ensure challenging raids and the most skilled players are hitting the damage caps for their classes, then obviously raids can’t be balanced around optimal comps if they can be 3 manned.

The only obvious thing here is that if Anet did use the optimal comps to balance raids to make them challenging, they really suck at it if they set the damage threshold so low that 3 people can complete it.

Forget all that … let’s assume you are right and VG is should be balanced around optimal comps … explain to me how a non-optimal comp could complete that raid? Player skill does not make up for damage caps on classes … so where does a non-optimal comp WITH highly skilled players make up its damage before rage hits? As far as I can tell, you just killed raid diversity.

for the most part non optimal comps CANT. you must not pug often. or create your own groups from the bottom of the player pool. the casuals. the new players who have less than 10 LI. i have several times. they barely succeed with optimal comps most of the time. this proves to me that you need to be exceptional to do it.yes i understand my experience may not represent the majority. but the only people i see using non optimal comps successfully are players who have lots of experience or are just really good as a whole. not normal.

Wolf mobs in this game have similar attack patterns across all of them, but different Dragon Minion wolves do different effects with their leaps.

The Icebrood Wolves in particular have a nasty small AoE nuke on their leap, but it has a very long cooldown and most of the time you can catch them around a corner in melee and they won’t immediately leap. I would recommend that when you get close to have a dodge or to put up a block, as the Icebrood Wolves outside of their leap are relatively harmless compared to say the Mordrem Wolves who prefer to flank.

…Oh crap I didn’t follow the script! Cmon you gotta dodge git gud nub.

or make your life much easier by just playing a ranged class. ranger or ele or something. fractals are anti melee pure and simple.

Do you have any proof of this? That seems to be just your assumption. And you try to build everything on that base. Ability to beat the bosses with weird comps doesn’t prove design and balance goals. Just like low-mans.

Whether you acknowledge it or not, that is the proof because if raids were balanced around optimal comps/builds, they couldn’t be done with non-optimal comps/builds. You wouldn’t see minutes left before rage timer. You wouldn’t see lowmanning. This is not a hard concept to understand. You’re not being objective or thinking clearly here. I think at this point, if these simple concepts are beyond comprehension, we should just agree to disagree.

Are we on the same planet? Let me try this again … I’m talking about raid diversity, the topic of the thread and I’m saying it makes no sense for you to claim that the changes are bad based on extreme scenarios you present. It is YOU making these claims, not me.

And you are making opposite claims presenting other extreme scenarios.

The fact that people can complete raids without optimized comps is not a claim, it’s a truth. Limiting your argument to comps that are the optimal or extremely challenging, then saying we don’t have diversity or that changes are bad because you can’t complete extreme conditions is insincere. That claim is built around the fabrication that certain classes are NEEDED for raid success. This is obviously false.

If you decide to not raid outside the optimal comp space, that’s fine, but to turn around and point the finger at Anet that this is a problem that needs to be solved because of ‘reasons’ is nonsense. We have variance, lots of it … enough to prove you don’t need optimal comps to be successful in raids. Don’t confuse challenging for ‘a problem’, then claim it needs fixing. you can also raid with 10 eles right now. you have to balance around the best comp because otherwise you either get faceroll easy bosses or impossible bosses without the best comp. as a pugling im unable to get away with diversified comps. the dps isnt high enough for most people ive ran with as they arent that good. i cant improve them. i can only give us the best chance at succeeding. unless your ok with the devs balancing around 10 man chrono raids stop asking them to balance around any and all comps.

Whatever is decide, bottom line I want that this huge unbreachable gap in dps between ele and other classes be lowered. No one should be capable of 50k dps, ever. I don’t care if it’s exclusive to organized grps or even if they’re downed half the time while managing it, since pugs can’t match it. Even dinosaurs agree this threshold should be group dps, not solo dps.

50k DPS? Noone is capable of doing 50k DPS. Not on the Target Golem with all Buffs or with realistic Buffs. And don’t need to talk about the actual Raid Scenario where Mechanics are lowering your DPS even more.

I think Courtyard would be a huge mistake. After all, a major reason population is low is massive stomps. Courtyard promotes just that.

sometimes you seem like you think things thru, sometimes you jump to conclusions like a wild person. this is the latter

major reason pvp pop is low is partially unbalanced fights and blow outs, another huge part is boredom. i’m bored crazy when i try to pvp these days. after 2 or 3 matches i think, this isn’t fun, i could be playing X instead, i just spent at least 30-45 mins, and i don’t feel like it was worth it

a part of why the imbalance and blow outs turns people away from gw2 pvp is the length of the fights too. after 1 encounter, and looking at the map and seeing how my team is responding, i can 9/10 times tell if its a loss. but even if its a loss i have to stay in this match for at least 5-10 minutes more, it makes you hate yourself and the game.

if some of these suggestions are actually put together, where its best 2 of 3 rounds, or just 1 round no respawn. at least the match is over < 5 mins. at least we can get another round going. i just wanted to pvp. can’t we just fight, win, fight, lose, fight, fight fight.

also pvp feels unrewarding. only good thing is ascended drops and those are the rarest thing in the game (as it should be)

If they nerf the multiloot I´ll be leaving the game. At least in the ML there is communication and you fight things. Only other thing worth doing in the game is silverwastes or farming materials. I´d rather scratch out my eyes than do either of these two activites everydays for hours.

Shall those of us that are losing our enjoyment of the game because the economy is getting destroyed by cheaters hold the door for you?

so you lose enjoyment when people play something you dont enjoy? your enjoyment depends on others doing something they dont enjoy so you can be happy. selfish.

The only thing that I ask for is for the devs to give us an answer on the question that people keeping fighting over:
Do they consider this to be an exploit that needs fixing, an exploit they allow because of the kittenstorm that would cause or if this was actually intented and truly allowed?

they wont because even if they come out and say its not a exploit the kittenstorm wont stop. people will abuse them and non stop spam about how they are mistaken or “just giving in to bad players demands” as theyve been doing to people who defend it repeatedly.

It’s a pretty safe assumption that you’ll need lots and lots of HoT map currencies, mithril, elder wood, and the T6 mats for the various gifts. There might be some T5/T6 leather required, so start hoarding that just in case.

What bothers me with multimap is that you just can’t find a normal squad. Multimap is like the new GW2 cancer. You get kicked without good reason (Yeah, I didn’t know I was waiting in the lobby when I wasn’t supposed to, what a bad player I am, right ?)
Maybe it’s time to get the Dragon’s Stand system in AB. If you didn’t do the meta on an instance, you don’t get the reward.

I make a thread like this every couple months so thank you for beating me to it.

I would like a raid reward track, we have 3 raid wings and a raid reward track could earn you rewards from that raid wing. For instance the Guild Hall trophys for vale,gors,sab.

I have a scribe of like 288 and guild mate has 400 level scribing so it would be nice to make all the trophys since we are a smaller guild.

I would also like a consume all button for the tomes i have collected. I will not double click 2k+ tomes, these would be 2 features i would like to see added.

You want raid rewards without doing raids? If you want those trophys then put in the work to kill the raid bosses, they shouldn’t just be handed to you because you don’t like to PvE

Right like Anet making getting to level easier for Pve players in PvP? Like when i had to get 200,000 glory to level and then Anet made it 20,000. There had to of been at least 15+ players in the level 70+. Thousands upon thousands of game played and Anet said what ever everyone is level 80 now. How can you even compare the amount of time/game played to raid kills. Talking about “they shouldn’t just be handed to you because you don’t like to PvE”.

How about the people who didnt finish coliseum or capricorn? They cried hard enough to make them permanent.

I was all for people yelling at Anet for releasing a new map during the PvP season but Anet caves all the time to casual PvE players.

I also thought hot join should be ridden of and many people said hey dont ruin it for casuals. I actually just wanted it made simply, no PvP dailys can be done in hot join.

Ive done W1 of raids and to be honest i dont like looking for a new puig group every week to get me kills. Why shouldnt i be able to get the trophys?

Name 1 decent reason, its not like Anet got rid of leader boards MMR based and gave it to farmers. Or made league a joke, so why is it that Leagues can be made for PvE players who were able to grind legendary wings and i simply cant have trophys?

I dont want the dumb skins, i dont want the minis or kill proof or Legendary insights. I just want to get trophys in a area of the game i still want to play.

Please give 1 real reason WvW and PvP shouldnt get these reward tracks when Anet does everything possible to make WvW and PvP easier for the casual PvE players.

1 reason – those are raid rewards.

Nothing you listed is relevant to the discussion.

  • Anet lowered the glory requirement to get to level 80, guess what you still have to play PvP games to get to lvl 80. It isn’t just handed out to people who play other content
  • ANet made coliseum and capricorn achievements permanent. Guess what, you still have to play PvP to get those achievements. You won’t get them through PvE (and for the record, making them permanent was the right thing to do insofar as this game is sorely lacking for permanent AP, at this point we need as many permanent achievements as possible)

Hot join is even less relevant. Despite whether you like it or not, it is still PvP. Just because ANet has allowed it to devolve to a system where people trade wins for dailies doesn’t mean it isn’t PvP.

Everything you listed requires playing the game mode and the specific content to get the rewards. Everything you listed backs up my argument that raid rewards should remain raid exclusive. If you don’t raid you don’t deserve them, its that simple. You shouldn’t get everything handed to you just because you don’t like to play some content

anyone regardless how little they know about pvp, other classes or the game itself is able to get pvp dailies done, progress pvp reward track, get pvp achievements and even get at least sapphire rank because they will be matched with equally (un)skilled players making their matches as simple as it can be imagined

so how about ill just enter a raid solo like a pvp match, then have it adjusted to my level of knowledge about the raid mechanics and my level of pve skillz then get the same reward as everybody else for clearing it?

bet if raids were updated to be like that you’d be so salty you would even forget about well of precognition

as far as inspection goes you wouldnt get into a raid or fractal group without having full ascended. before you could get away with partially ascended in raids specifically cause the change isnt that much. but it would be if inspection was in.

No they don’t. There is no correlation between condis and high DPS. While some condi classes have exceptional DPS that fact has nothing to do with condis and everything to do with class design.

Necros are balanced with the marks spammings as basis, long range unblockable dmg will always come with a cost, you’re not forced at mele range to deal the bulk of your dmg and that something Anet keeps in mind…fortunately for the rest of use

Necros have 4 marks. Mark#4 and mark#5 are utilities that are not spammed. Mark#2 and mark#3 are the dps marks, and of those two only mark#2 is spammed, since mark#3 is too offensively important to mindlessly use.

Mark#2 however is spammed everywhere since it’s life force (if soul reaping) and it has no other value outside of LF generation so it’s not a loss if it gets wasted.

Please tell me you’re not getting killed by mark#2 spam.

now i see why you think necro sucks so bad. your not even playing it right. i spam 4 and 5 constantly in team fights while we focus a target. esp if they are down and their team is trying to rez.i hide behind my team and dps from range. then i move in and use chilled to the bone and back out. sure if i get focused ill die. but you shouldnt be winning a fight against 4 other people.the sooner you learn this the better off youll be.
