DH is OP but so is almost every other elite spec. DH isn’t even the biggest offender in that regard. DH could do with a nerf, but not in a vacuum. Scrapper defense/offense, condi Reaper auto corrupts and chill damage, and some aspects of Druid/pets are even more pressing issues.

If everything is op, wouldn’t that mean there is a balance there? Or rather none of it is op?

What a great solution for a RANGED skill that can be reflected in my face, has a very obvious animation and can just target random crap whenever it feels like it. Gee, we’re so lucky.

Sword #3 can also auto-cancel for several clumsy reasons, be dodged away, and deal no damage against multiple opponents. Did that make sword #3 a terrible skill?

My point is: I know sword #2 has flaws, but don’t judge it solely by its flaws. Stay near your target, just as you would when you are AAing. The perma chill and the 4-5k damage IS nice.

Sword 2 is very unreliable. If it had better tracking I’d say it was a great skill, but it’s not a skill I’d work too hard positioning myself to use. Not worth it.

People gain affection for their favourite builds, so when they see them nerfed, they react very violently against the changes.

But to be honest, revenant’s nerfs were well thought out and all completely logical. Sword and hammer were too spammy because each of them had a single, spammable skill that was overtuned. Glint’s heal was too strong and too flexible, and in order to maintain its power, they had to tone down its flexibility.

And precision strike is a good skill now. Cry at me all you want. Precision strike is pretty decent. It may be clumsy at chasing targets because of how easily avoidable it is, but just ignore that it’s a ranged skill. Use it at melee just as you would with your other sword skills. Precision strike contributes to your burst with a good chunk of damage every 4 seconds and allows you to perma chill your target for no meaningful energy cost.

I main condi necro/ s/d thief, and play condi rev in pvp since HoT drop. Now that we have that out of the way I can get to the point. This balance was bad, they over buffed necro and straight nerf hammered rev. The “changes” were bad, they were not thought out by anyone who plays the game. I’m not sure why anyone would bring a power rev to a match now, it’s a huge handicap.

If sword skills didn’t require energy it would be a different story, but considering that every skill used needs to be used with some thought behind it, the cost of the skill is outweighed by the effect now. If the enemy team has an ele or necro, just switch classes to something useful.

I stopped playing PvP this season when my teams threw matches back to back to back. “Oh we are winning by 150+? let me go guard lord…” Or “We are winning by a good bit, let’s split and send 2 far and 2 home.” Not sure how I got so lucky… Some people got nice teams that amplified their own ability, and were able to make it to legendary, luck of the draw I guess.

Unless they change the way the projectiles work, you won’t be hitting anything or anyone with all 3 unless you’re standing inside of their hitbox. Good luck.

Karl said it would fire all 3 projectiles at the same target if there is only one in the area.

That’s fine, but if they don’t land what’s the point? Anyone strafing will avoid them completely.

Precision strike is being buffed to stupid OP levels. Would be too OP to not nerf 3 with 2’s insane single target damage/chill. Precision strike has 1.0 coefficient per projectile x 3 with chill and 600 range on a 4s cooldown with .5s cast time. You know what else has a 3.0 coefficient? Gravedigger, except that skill is melee, doesn’t chill, has a 1.25s cast time, and has twice the cooldown above 50% health or if it misses. Hundred blades has an 8s cd too, but only has a 5.31 coefficient, and has a longass 3.5s channel. Of course those other skills CAN hit more than one target, which is sort of what a.net was going for, sword being the Shiro/assassin weapon to wreck that single target’s day.

Considering you can dodge through s3 nearly entirely, it chooses the targets for you, is junk in team fights. Gravedigger hits everything around you, heals when traited, spammable, and reliable. S3 doesn’t single targets out, you have to be a distance away from other targets to have it focus, and if the target is MM or ranger, GG the skill is purely defensive now. Play the class.

- PS never makes contact anyway, wasted skill. No one uses it because it misses 9 out of 10.

Not really sure if a build that gets soft countered by just not allowing it to have 1 on 1 fights can ever be competitive, specially when the arguably best overall 1 on 1 skirmisher is a pet class that you don’t single out by default (no nerfs announced so far, although it might be hit hard by amulet changes).

Add to this the insane corruption capabilities necromancers seem to be getting plus a mercenary amulet which fits them like a glove, and we might easily be saying goodbye to power revenants for a while.

Guess someone play too few games to know that Mallyx/Shiro Revenant can 1v 1 any class, and can eat Druid easily with the OP Banish Enchantment.

AFAIK Mallyx/Shiro builds usually run Vipers and are more focused on condition damage than on direct one, with Sword/Shield being the “defensive” weapon set.
Those are going to be hit far less than power builds, which use the sword as their main damage tool (which is kinda ridiculous btw, since Viper rev is much more present it the meta than power one).

It’s because the sword isn’t actually that useful other than a 1 v 1 burst, while mace/axe has aoe condi pressure as well as a very easy might blast.

I love them, I got all the minions with death and blood magic and enemies never even touch me. Maybe in pvp they suck cuz players are smart enough to ignore the minions but I think its really awesome playing with them

I love necro also… but before we continue, what level are you? You tend not to see the obvious lacking and weaknesses until you’ve played the class for a while, and other clases as well.

I’ve been using GS mainly for AoE blind and LF build up + a pull. I’ve really only used the GS to supplement DS, and it has worked pretty well in my favor. You should really only get off a few skills with GS before going back into shroud imo. When I ran dagger/WH the dps was a LOT higher, and I was adding a lot more pressure, but this new rotation is fun. I’ll admit, most of the fun I’m having is due to it being new. Reaper and GS are pretty underwhelming and a bit boring otherwise. The new shroud skills and look are my favorite part. DS3 particularly.

- Side note: Outside of PvP, I have run into a LOT of survivablity issues using the GS, and on more than a handful of occasions had to switch back to staff/Dagger or axe, and switch out of reaper. It probably should be a tad bit faster with the AA, not by much, but maybe 1/4 of a second faster. I’ve felt like a glass cannon without the cannon when fighting mini bosses or similar. Just my thoughts so far.

It’s pretty good in WvW for catching fleeing enemies or enemies perched on top of towers. It’s certainly one of the more situational Necro utilities, to be sure.

I’ve used it for that as well, but I disengaged to put it on my bar to pull, and would take it back off after the kill.

We are very concerned about reaper because

1. Melee builds need survival tools that the reaper doesnt have

2. Melee builds need chase down tools that the reaper doesn’t have

3. reaper, at least greatsword reaper, may have really poor life force generation. Even if the grandmaster trait makes up for some of this, reaper should get something better from its grandmaster trait than life force to make up for the terrible greatsword life force.

4. Reaper GS chill access depends on a 4 second chain attack all hitting, but the attacks are slow and well telegraphed.

4a. Chill is supposed to be the main control tool of the reaper, but chill got nerfed hard that the condition will not fill this function very well.

5. If reaper damage is not best in the game top notch, then the whole class theme falls apart. Reapers, instead of being feared will be trying to run away from eviscerate warriors for example.

6. Axe and Focus are needed more badly than ever. With Reaper shroud and greatsword both melee, there is a real need for a legitimate power weapon tools (staff doesn’t count). Unfortunately, those two got Dhuumfired in beta and still suck today.

7. What OP said, shout and utilities don’t matter if we are going to be stuck taking (weak) stun breaks for utility.

8. The traits look very weak & boring, here’s what every Pvp & WvW reaper will take: (1) immobilize duration reduction (2) more life force to make up for greatsword life force sucking and (3) more life force to make up for greatsword life force sucking. That is very boring, even if the particular numbers turn out make the traits strong.

9. No scaling defenses for team fights & no team utility for team fights.

1. I always thought necro was pretty survival thanks to the massive health/DS life pool as well as some tools it had. I will not that I rarely do PvP and WvW on necro so I’m coming at it from a PvE aspect, but the high health and standard dodging do well in PvE.

2. They do have spectral pull, but I do agree that it would be hard to catch somebody already at range without that. You can chill them if you pull them in, but using a utility slot for that may not be worth it depending on the situation, so I would agree with you here.

3. This —> much truth.

4. Not necessarily. If your other weapon has chill you can generate it that way and RS 3 and 5 can chill with the right traits. With another trait, you spread chill on each crit. So yes, GS reaper doesn’t have tons of chill potential without aid other than that final AA strike but it’s still there for the reaper in some areas.

6. This —> more than much truth

8. I think the traits have good synergy with vulnerability/chill/crit chance and things like that with some of the other trait lines. Not sure yet whether that’ll be enough to make Reaper viable, but I have some hope.

Although I feel you’re looking at in from a WvW or PvP perspective and I’m thinking PvE. Those are two totally different worlds that require different builds. Like I said, without playing more WvW on my necro, I couldn’t begin to say what it does and doesn’t need for it to function in WvW.

I just want to make a quick response to your points from my perspective with a WvW/PvP focus, as I do not have much of any experience in PvE. So I respect your thoughts in that regard.

1) Necro CAN tank a bit, but it strongly depends on your build(naturally) and is your only option when getting focused regardless. Necros don’t make effective tanks, they are more like forced skill sponges.

2) Spectral pull is really too slow and at least in my experience, is incredibly inconsistent. The only use I’ve found for it, is pulling people out of a group if they don’t see you. Not as useful as other utilities at all.

3) When it is released I’ll make an opinion of it, still too early. Will probably be nerfed pre, then post release anyway.

Those are the only points I wanted to make note of. Necro is a lot of fun in WvW and PvP though, you should give it a run.

Anytime Anet wants to nerf something but doesn’t really have a reason for it, or don’t want to explain the reason they instead label it a “fix”. This has happened with pretty much every balance patch since launch, it’s not like this is some new trick.

For example, they “fixed” signet of vamp to heal for less. Of course it already basically heals for nothing, which is why no one uses it. There is no reason to reduce the healing it does, even if they tripled it, it would still suck. Yet they somehow felt compelled to reduce the healing. It makes no sense, and has no logic, so therefore it is labeled as a “fix” instead of a nerf.

It’s weird then that the other nerfs and buffs isn’t labeled as “fixes”. SOV is basically necromancers answer to the warriors healing signet. They both heal for basically the same amount (+- a 5 or 10 or whatever) and is basically just as effective as each other. They both heal you per second,the only difference being that SOV requires you to get hit for it to heal. And honestly,in a fight,as a warrior you get hit just as much as a necromancer.
So ergo,SOV is as effective as Healing Signet IN COMBAT.

Oh,and couple that passive healing with the blood magic trait line siphons on dagger autos. You pump out much more self healing than a freakin’ warriors healing signet. Plus that extra damage siphons do….

For necro, it’s added toughness in the form of a “heal,” but the toughness has an icd. Warriors already have that toughness and then some, and their heal ticks away regardless…

I can’t really answer your questions at the top, but I will say that I’m actually liking the new necro. I feel a lot more versatile in builds… I’ve been tinkering in curses, blood, and death right now seeing how it is. Imo with the new traits it FEELs more fun, but I’ve only had a couple of matches with it, and it seems strong when played efficiently, probably more so than when I used to run a terror build.

I can’t decide if I feel stronger, the same or weaker in WvW. I’m thinking that conditionmancer is supposed to be more bursty than it is attrition-y. You can’t stack a whole lot of any individual condition but with such high condition damage each individual one hurts like hell. I’m getting 1.6k terror ticks, lol.

I feel like attrition is how the necro was supposed to work, I like this patch a lot right now.

Why? With all the cleansing in PvP, I really don’t see a stack change as anything different. When I play condi, I usually maintain around 12 stacks at any given time… Never seen 25 in pvp.

Power necro is pretty nice in solo, I like to think I do well with it. It is hit or miss though, I very rarely get fights that are drawn out, either I melt the person or I get CCed to death. I started doing a lot better with it once I moved away from the DS LB builds honestly. Just about everything I went after out healed the blasts or just blinded me. For solo, necro away.

Never talked about what Mesmer community desire…I’ve simply stated what should be given, whether you’ll personally like it or not, well surely is none of my concerns.

My point simply is that we cannot have a burst build with the defensive potential to match a bruiser build or even negate the role thieves excel at, because at that point then I ask for a revamped fresh air build, zerker staff and even d/f zerker

In the end whenever I use a zerker amulet on any other profession…I get hunted by thieves too, I get focused too so if a shatter Mesmer should be buffed, then all other zerker builds should be buffed too and I’m all for it my friend

Most of us were not in favor of the damage on greatsword being buffed over and over. (It’s almost all because of air and fire, by the way. Without those two greatsword’s ranged damage is mediocre).

Whatever else you can say about Mesmer damage, it’s completely predictable. Do you think it’s a coincidence that Mesmers never have trouble with other Mesmers themselves? But it begs the question, doesn’kitten If shatter Mesmer’s so strong and simple to play, why aren’t you out playing it right now?

As a related aside you’re “stating what should be [a] given”, okay, who the hell are you exactly? This is the very reason why message boards are useless.

I don’t pvp or gvg or wvw zerg much so I cant say for those areas.

what i do 99% of the time with my necro is wvw solo roam.
and I must say necro is not weak at all.

I win 99% of the time against builds that I have an advantage against, like against every other condi build, I got a strong advantage even when I played badly. like against every boon stacking build like dd ele if I switch to corrupt boon in time.

Even against professions that I generally am on even ground or even suffer against, it is not a one-sided fight, but a 50-50 fight against like thief and mesmers and guardians.

The only profession/build I really suffer against is a longbow zerker ranger. Almost always a one sided win for the ranger if he knows how to kite well.

So actually I am very happy where necros are right now.

And Nothing Stands In Our Way.

When I solo roam as necro, warrior, thief, mesmer, or ranger, and sometimes guardian, I get the same results. That doesn’t mean necros are in a good spot, that means the average mindless straggler or uplevel, or just PvE’er turned “roamer” isn’t very good. Most people that I’ve come across in WvW have been builds meant for a zerg, not a 1 v 1 – 5 v 5.

I don’t have any issues with thieves when I play Necro.

Then please shed light on what your doing differently. A thief has many ways to reset the fight and remove conditions while stealthing. I usually find them running circles around me as im trying to catch them and if I miss that small window of opportunity of downing them before they restleath, im dead.

Thief is one of those classes where I haven’t had any issues with in a long time. It’s when they engage where I do this… Dagger 3, WH 4, WH 5, WoS, dagger 1 burst, dagger 2, swap to axe, axe 3, DS 5, DS 4. That order because they usually stealth by time I’ve bursted them down with dagger 1, and the rest usually finishes the job. Some thieves are very good at what they do though, and that combo doesn’t always work. It’s the greedy thieves that it kills very fast. If you are using a 6/2/0/0/6 build against a D/P thief… good luck to you. It doesn’t work if they know how to play.

I just lost a game because one of my team mates let me down. How do you deal with such a situation in PvP. I tried to tell him that it was his fault but he got found innocent of blame by our team mates. I was in shock, and this caused the break up of our party.

How should you deal with allocating the blame in pvp?

P.s. I won’t name the player who cost me the game but his initials were P.H.D.

It’s a team effort, if you think assigning blame for every mistake will get you anywhere, you are mistaken. Your attitude is what causes more moral drops than anything. If you saw a flaw in the way he played, point it out tactfully without saying “You made us lose cuz u is bad, gg scrub” and the person will probably listen to what you have to say, assuming you have a corrective action. I’ll give you an example:

Wrong: “U bad nub, fight on point baddy, u make us lose, uninstall gw2 nub. Scrub.”
Right: “Hey dude, try to fight on point next time, we will have an easier time securing a win that way.”

The reason I say this is because it seems almost every other match I watch one negative player bring down the whole team, and kitten everyone on both teams off. The player that makes mistakes doesn’t usually cost as much as the player with a horrible attitude that rages at everyone.

World PvP Tourney = Necros have no place?

I didn’t see the tourney but I play a lot of Pvp.

Necromancers are too slow to do anything other than sit on a point.

A thief Mesmer or elementalist can get from mid point to stillness in 3 seconds by warping to the upstairs bridge. The necromancer in comparison takes about 12 seconds because it has to run the long way across. Ditto for the upstairs points on Kyhlo or the exits of mid point on Foefire. Swiftness doesn’t make up for this disadvantage, and taking swiftness has its own issues.

The necromancer has to talk the long walk around which is a killer defect for a class that already doesn’t kill very quickly and has a skillet suited for a roamer.

The dominance of blinks which looks exploity to a speciator looks like it might be getting fixed, which will help necromancers. The changes to stability could be a buff too, since necromancer transforms may get “pulsing” stability.

Anet may be about to help us.

I wouldn’t hold your breath, but I came back on this hope.

Well, ok. It may be different in NA. I’m telling my experience on EU. It’s rare to see people arguing in chat, language barrier maybe I dunno.

Appart from one certain necro, that most of EU soloq’ers know, there is not alot of flame. Certainly nothing near “blocking 5 players a day”.

I’m on NA, and yeah it’s about 3-5 a day since I’ve been back.

OP, man-up and stop being a crybaby. The world is full of abusive people. YOU can either start learning how to ignore them or fight back. I can be a really rude person but only when triggered, this is both in-game and irl.

Yeah, I recently came back to check things out and the abrasiveness of the population feels like it increased 10 fold from what it was just a year ago. It’s almost as if the average age of the playerbase went down into the single digits. Sad really.

I’ve found that the only way to mitigate the bad AI’s damage to your fights, is to only summon them when you need them, then put them away when the fight’s over(hugely assuming you won, if in wvw).

What Is Life Like For A Necromancer Main?

Hey All!
Did a similar thread in the ele forum and I’m just wondering what it’s like for you to play the game for so long knowing that your main character is the Necromancer class — what your perspective / outlook is on situations, for example what you feel like when you go solo PvEing, solo roaming — or do you depend more on others.
How do you feel maining Necro in comparison to other class mains -
IS it fun? Do you feel useful everywhere? Do you feel outclassed or squishy? Do you feel all-powerful or niche? Does anything seem possible or do you feel like you might need to barely squeeze into something with a lot of effort?
This is kind of a broad open-ended question but I’m just wondering what everyone’s experience is!

I have a lot of fun playing necromancer, and so far sunk about 1k hours into it. There were times where I felt out classed early on, but as I became used to fighting other classes, the balance of power equaled out. Generally I play about 80% of the time in WvW, and feel I’ve made a very positive difference in many skirmishes. Necros can tank pretty well, and using DS and plague correctly can improve your survivability dramatically.

Necro for me is a much more controlled, and unique experience, as opposed to playing my thief/mesmer/warrior/ranger. I started as necro, and continued to main it because of it’s uniqueness, and selfish versatility. There are, of course, many things other classes can do better. I’m less focused on what other classes can do, and more focused on how I can manipulate the outcome of engagements through corruption and fear, or through might stacks and penetrating LB, or through constant mass blindness and bursting dark fields.

I’ve had many gripes with necro as a profession, which to some extent has been resolved, and in other directions has been intensified. Playing as a minion master used to be a lot of fun for me, but the ai completely destroyed that experience. Lately I’ve stuck to the same 3 builds for WvW, and alternate depending on whether I’m roaming or hitching a ride with a zerg, and what the zerg composition is depends on what kind of power build I run.

Roaming as a condition-mancer is a lot of fun, and can be much easier to accomplish minor tasks such as solo capping camps or unguarded towers, than it would be as a power build. It’s hard to sum up my entire experience as necro in one page, but I’ll say that necro is fun, and interesting enough to keep me playing it despite how much easier it is to play other classes. I’ll say one of the biggest drawbacks, is due to the lack of escapes and likelihood of mass conditions, as a necro I’ve been focus fired down in every situation Ive run into where due to topography, I wasn’t able to position myself properly, or was simply ambushed.

As necro, don’t even try to run away. Just do your best to slow them down in that case, which is the only thing you can do. It’s been a fun experience, and I hope the shortcomings are fixed soon.
