Haven’t read through the whole thread but I like the idea of a group of players being able to dismantle the siege.
I think it should work something like this:
- Players should be able to dismantle the siege in pieces, like how we build siege in pieces not the whole siege at a time.
- Each dismantled piece of siege should return supply to the player in the form of “Supply bundle”. This bundle will not be an item in your inventory but more like a “Consumable” buff that should be drained first before being able to consume more. So only one stack of this buff per player at a time.
- Each supply bundle should be able to be donated by players back to Quartermaster NPC that handles upgrades in a structure, who shall accept the bundle and return the supplies to the corresponding structure.
- The supply bundle buff should have a timer (say 15-20mins?). Player should return these supplies to NPC within that timeframe. Once the time is up, supplies should return to the EoTM supply depot by citadel on home BL. This helps in preventing trolls misusing these bundles by dismantling legit siege so any wasted supply is still going back somewhere.
- The supply bundle should not be able to be used for building siege – either it should be donated to NPC or pools back to Citadel EoTM supplies.
I haven’t thought through in detail the repurcussions. There will be a bit of shift in meta for sure but I think it might work. Folks are free to debate on whether this will work.

What OP meant was how did our character just happen to come across the name. People speculated on internet, not in-game. There was zero word on his name within the game. Also this dragon was supposed to be unknown to common populace, given there are zero mentions. OP is talking from in-character perspective.

It is an improvement, you are just focusing on your own side of story. I saw role players for the first time ever last evening on Southsun Cove. Never saw roleplaying there before on AR before the patch. Why is it wrong for me to experience this just because I wasn’t part of the original RP servers? And BTW, until recently TC was full.
So while you complain that you “can’t roleplay anymore” with friends, I saw plenty of opportunities ahead of me. I am not evil or anti TC/PS/RP for pointing this out. True story that made me smile, while many of you were cringing at the changes.

You could’ve experienced the same RP’ers in the past with guesting. But now the tightly knit RP communities are scattered all over the place because guilds and friends can’t enter the same map instance together. Either it isn’t working as intended or it is, as intended by Anet.
Add to that, the 12yr old trolls that get a kick out of being the big bad guys on the internet by griefing RP communities. They were around even with guesting, but the majority of the community would shut them off but now its not possible because every map instance has all kinds of people half of whom don’t really care about the community. I don’t RP but I’ve been on TC since the beginning and enjoy the community as it is. RP servers have a good reputation for a reason, and they are the one’s that keep cities like DR full everyday that I end up in overflow most of the times. This update just kitten on that loyal community who play and spend more than some troll that jumps ship to the next MMO once he reaches max level and farmed to his heart’s content.
They made this change so that maps like Lornar’s pass or Dredgehaunt or Fireheart Rise etc will be more populated. But you know what? Once the map boss event is over these maps will still be empty even now because they are so dead boring that once you get map completion there’s no reason for you to go back to these places again.

Through the logic that a painting of a dragon automatically points to an Elder Dragons, Cantha is already a bastion of Elder Dragon Power for the empire that rules that land is called….The Empire of the Dragon.
(You’re making a joke right? But since I can’t tell) Equating a place that calls itself the “Empire of the Dragon” with Elder Dragons is problematic for couple of reasons.
1. As far as we know there were no humans during the previous Elder Dragon rise which means that Canthan’s had no idea what an Elder Dragon is/was.
2. Cantha was decently populated by Saltspray dragons – we have no idea if they have any relation to Elder Dragons whatsoever – but we do know that they aren’t inherently evil.
3. Dragon does not = Elder Dragon.
That’s what he actually said jokingly, if I understood it right. He said by the logic of “dragon painting = ED”, Cantha should’ve been Empire of ED’s just because it’s called The Empire of the Dragon.
Honestly that dragon painting in Scarlet’s lair, atleast to me, looks more like a grawl painting. It has more “grawl” style to it than any other painting styles we see in-game.
I mean all scribblings, oops sorry I meant paintings, by Scarlet look like something a 3yr old would draw while the dragon painting had more, should I say, flair to it. For all we know Scarlet just drove some grawl out of their caves with the help of her minions and took over the place.
And geez, it’s a game. No need to “lose faith in humanity” over a player’s speculation. I mean I have been hearing “Sylvari are dragon minions” theory for over a year and a lot of regulars must’ve debunked it 1000 times (no. of times they should’ve lost faith in humanity) by now. There’s nothing “inhumane” in speculating over a game’s lore.
My assumptions:

- She still got these groups by their balls with the promises of power & tech,
- What/whoever is behind Scarlet, all these groups know about his/her/its existence and decided to play along rather than be wiped out. Basically sandwiched between choosing death from the Tyrian heroes (or victory over them if successful) and this mysterious being.
I definitely hope it isn’t rebuilt as a full city – maybe convert it into a memorial or Ground Zero kinda thingy but rebuilding the whole city back won’t have the same kind of emotional impact on players as having it as a wasteland reminding all civilized races of a huge loss would.
I’d take it further by keeping LA portals in The Mists intact but throwing an on-screen message that reminds players of where those portals once used to lead to. Let the players feel the loss they felt when Tybalt/Sieran/Forgal died, but this time on a much massive scale.
We could have a LA memorial event every year (similar to Dragon Bash) around this period that would take us to a virtual setting (like fractals?) of the present LA so new players get to see what they have missed and old players can relive their favorite afk-spot for a brief time without actually going afk.
There’s a probe in LA, underwater, south of docks. Not that it adds much except that there’s a high probability that a war could indeed be coming to LA, either from Scarlet’s minions or another bi-product of thumpers, like the new Jungle Wurm.
Heh, I agree that in the past Scarlet had a pathetic delivery as a character. But if we go by the video of her journal (I don’t think the voice is of the uploader. This patch has lots of voiceovers to the regular GW2 NPC dialogue windows), she sounded to be in pain, and insecure.
Slightly off-topic: Does anyone else see the similarities between Scarlet and Person of Interest’s (TV series) character “Root”? Both of them cause chaos, both are psychotic nerds, Scarlet takes instructions from someone while Root “talks” to the machine created by Finch (as in converses with the machine like it is a human being which Finch never managed to do despite being its creator), and both Scarlet and Root’s intentions are unknown. Root warns Finch of a war more dangerous than herself that is gonna come; a lot of NPC’s in-game have been saying the similar thing. Except the machine is (so far) a good entity helping the lead characters while whoever is behind Scarlet doesn’t seem to be so nice. But as a character there are a lot of similarities, just saying!
I like this patch for one main reason – it gives us a confirmation that Scarlet isn’t crazy for the sake of it; something/someone is consuming her mentally. She isn’t at the top of the chain in this chaos after all. I also think Marionette is a way of Scarlet (sub-consciously) showing Tyria what she is – a puppet of destruction. Puppet for who remains to be seen however.
Gonna leave this here for those who haven’t visited Scarlet’s lair already (I haven’t, but I couldn’t hold the excitement and watched the video anyway :P):

They didn’t compare Scarlet to GoT. They even admitted their failure in delivering the story properly. The GoT comparison, as others have said, is about the “speculation part” and trust me, people have been theorising for the past 6 months on Scarlet, her motivations and her background story and her relation to everything that’s happened so far. Trust me, the speculations have been wild – check Lore section of these forums and you’ll know. These ranged from “Scarlet is an idiot” to “Scarlet is trying to kill Elder Dragons” to “Scarlet is an Elder Dragon herself” and Anet accomplished what they claimed to have – get people come up with all sorts of theories and get them to talk.
And yes, GoT is the most recent famous stuff related to entertainment where people are still not sure where the story might end up and keep speculating on the ending. Now they wouldn’t compare it with Harry Potter or Star wars because they had straightforward “Good beats Evil” backdrop. GoT doesn’t, and nobody knows where Scarlet stands among all the chaos, except Anet. They haven’t claimed that Scarlet as a character has been a success, instead they admitted it had a poor delivery, but the overall story has been successful so far because of the speculation part.
And yeah, the title might get you infracted with “how dare you” stuff.

The big difference in those 2 weeks was, last week [BOMB] dont rally at Sunda/Monday when TC made their big big push, so basicly no1 stop them, but this week [BOMB] rally Sunday/Monday and TC cannot do anything, and dont say you dont send you entire forces because i have videos and dont meke me put some over here.
If you say at some moment of the days TC only have 2 commnaders, well FA at some points only has me commanding the 4 maps.

In my book, any time our random folks wipe guild groups of T1, that’s a win. We don’t have to beat them in score, we just don’t have those numbers. Not saying it isn’t possible, we have destroyed two servers on their way to T1 in the past. But it came at a cost – many people had to pull long shifts and play extra smart in PPT game to make it possible. I’ve seen what it could do, and it isn’t healthy to the overall community in the long run.
As long as people are having fun while they are playing, and take pride in fighting for The Coast no matter what the odds are, that’s all that matters.
While I love the game and a lot of changes that Anet makes to the game, some of these changes really make me cringe. To prevent a few bots/griefers, Anet takes the easy way out by not rewarding tasks like yak escorting and siege building and everything else that falls under category of “defense” and “logistics” of warfare. If zerging is all that Anet likes, take out the towers and keeps, let us zerg it out in open field forever.
It’s like taking a big dump on some of the selfless people, who are like the backbone of any server in WvW, and to do what? To stop a couple of bots or achievement whores? It’s not just about not communicating to us, it is about not making defense and logistics overall as rewarding as zerging is. While honest players are being taken a crap on, griefers and WXP whores are still wasting supply to build siege endlessly.
The amount of people running around abusing it right now is ridiculous. So many people using Mesmers to abuse chaos storm tons of uplevels running around with it. When I’m getting hit for 40k by one chaos storm with full PTV gear somethings broken.

Anyone with a problem with the mesmer bug is such a carebear. It was a bit of fun for a couple of hours. It was highly amusing to see a guild stack up on a keep then be aerially assaulted by hordes of purple.
If you can’t see the funny side, and are annoyed that your super tank zerg build got instakilled, don’t come into WvW if you’re afraid of dying. After all, it is a PvP zone.
Pls tell me you’re not serious here. There’s a difference between wiping people with skill and tactics, and abusing exploit for easy kills. It isn’t much of being a carebear, but I’d feel real bad for morons exploiting this, because they totally suck at clean play and have a lot of chances for getting banned. Yea WvW is PvP zone, not GvP (God vs Player) zone. From what I understand mesmer just hit the god-mode. Hope a hotfix and bans are in order.
To the [Thai] sylvari guardian that was defending south camp on BGBL on sunday – my asuran mesmer tried waving at you, bowing to you etc trying to get a good duel, and most of the time you were afk, on the job. Seriously? Thank goodness your friend from [PALS](?) came to satisfy my hunger for a duel, which of course didn’t end in his favor. You could’ve engaged me when you were back, but instead you ran away! Atleast I got the camp after you left!
This time I didn’t attack you while you were afk, but next time I won’t be so considerate when the loot bag and the free stomp point looks so tempting. So better watch your back!

I’ve been TC for around 2 months now. Got tired of Mags PVF/QQ’ing and the way people viewed the server as a whole. I came to TC to experience the Dolyak parades and RP, I can say I’m not disappointed.

That hairstyle looks like Canach. And also, he has changed his look in the past based on his mood (like most Sylvari do I believe). Although this version looks to have that “undead”/zombie look.
I haven’t seen a thread on this yet (no not about skills update etc, but about the LS content), and am really curious after watching the image under releases page. I just saw the image and thought that Anet is either playing this close to the chest or there’s no story content planned at all (which seems less likely) or they forgot/not decided the name for the LS :P.
Previous release preview images had the short form of the name of the Living Story (TA for Twilight Assault, QJ for Queen’s Jubilee etc) in the image filename, but this image hasn’t got any such thing. It just mentions the date “10-15” followed by “NextHero” which is commonly used for every LS update.
I gotta agree. I’ve done this new path an hour after the patch with a friend and 3 other folks from an entirely different server (friends of my friend :P). We did die a lot, but it was a great challenging run. Except for the initial ooze run for which my friend checked online guide, we figured almost everything out by ourselves. Nobody quit or anything. We observed why we were wiping each time and improvised. Also, make sure to read the NPC dialogue, like Caithe’s, they carry a lot of hints!
