The ultimate problem is “meta” is a player defined creation.
Sure, changing the game will change the meta, but it has nothing to do with game design.
Players decided they wanted rewards faster, so they could move on to the next dungeon faster, and the best way is to kill faster. Not everyone wishes to partake in that, because getting gold and tokens faster is a valid goal, but it’s not a universal goal. Why should Arenanet change the game based on player goals that they never even intended for? They never decided it was going to be a race. I don’t see a timer. The game doesn’t keep track of times. If you want to, that’s fine, but don’t force them or others to think it is one.
This isn’t player vs player that requires balance.
The zerker meta exists, because it is the collective goal of dedicated players that want to complete the content as efficiently as possible. There is nothing wrong with this, because you can complete the content without following this meta. Anet cannot and should not dictate to the letter how a player should play or what they should find fun, because the collective skill of an entire community is always going to outpace the developers or the mind of a single person. That is why trying to design a new “meta” is simply a foolish aspect. It is no different then trying to whip a strait into obeying you.
Because let’s admit it, a lot of suggestions (including my own) are written from one’s own perspective with one’s own interests in mind. Trying to portray others as selfish (and implying one is on some crusade to make the world better for all— please don’t— a lot of tragedies have been started because of this) is simply dishonest. At least I will admit that when I post, I speak for myself and people that think like me, and do not assume some silent majority is cheering me and treating me as the voice of the unheard(even if they are, duh). One just can’t ignore the impact on others with changes. So, “I play the way I want” until someone interferes with that ability. Until then, I try to respect others as such. Oh, and if the way you want doesn’t happen to be “meta”, well, that’s your own problem if you try to force it into something it was never intended to do.
Instead, game balance needs to be made taking the current meta in concern and finding ways to provide additional challenges. Reinventing the wheel every time a problem is perceived runs is not a good idea.

As someone who’s dealt with business issues a lot, I understand that a good deal of customers are scum, entitled, and think it’s a simple issue when it’s clearly not. And there’s certainly a lot of that here too.
However, that doesn’t really change the nature of my job, as long as they’re paying customers. When demands are unreasonable, then they won’t be met, that’s fine, but the most important part, especially to the customers that are decent human beings and that will stay with you is to be forthright, and to make your words mean something. That means, “We estimate this time frame…” instead of a vague “it’s done when it’s done”. If it’s wrong, then well, it was an estimate, not a guarantee. It doesn’t matter if that customer is screaming, it’s not right for me to dismiss it as “dude, you could live without it for a few more days, couldn’t you?”. It may be right, but it doesn’t matter. The customer’s time is important!
And to be fair, I think the last response about the developers having families and stuff to be a little unprofessional even it were funny, but this isn’t a serious climate so it can pass. Yea, I wish that kind of excuse would work where I was around. It does exhibit a certain attitude though. Well, I don’t care too much, though there are many around here without a sense of humor and that’s hard to account for.
I think both customers and employees of Anet should realize that the customer frustration is directed towards Anet as an entity, not at the employees, necessarily, and it is wrong for angry gamers to shoot the messenger. That is, I understand that well, things are outside your control, but at the same time one can’t take it personally either. Too much.
Ultimately, my point is that it is really wrong to levy attacks on dissatisfied customers because it’s ultimately irrelevant. It doesn’t matter if the item in question is required or not. If I buy a chocolate bar at the grocery store and it turns out to be in terrible safe, you’d bet I’d be complaining, and if they tried to tell me “well, you don’t need chocolate”, that would be a good reason to avoid that store. The unfortunate truth is that if customers put up with the businesses’s negligence, there is no incentive for them to change, really. Though this goes the other around too… if the customer is complaining regardless but still here, then why bother.
Overall, I think this company could have more respect for its customer’s time (hey that search function…) when it comes to issues such as this and bigger ones. If this was an isolated incident, people would most likely be screaming less, but there’s been other fiascos and also lack of communication with other big changes such as megaservers and stuff so this kind of dissastication tends to fester. I mean the product is good but it could definitely be better and improving communication I think will save hassle on all ends. There’s a lot of people out there willing to shell out more money for this game. Give them a reason to I’d say.

It’s not 200+ episodes though.
~Elementalists are going heal bot because of the stats like minstrel and nomads allowing them to tank so much why constantly healing with their auras. This is really the most boring and pathetic way to play Elementalists. Elementalists are meant for so much more than just be heal bot.
And yet throughout the entire lifetime of GW2 people have always been like “no trinity, why cant I play healer in GW2 this game suuuuuuuuuuuck!”…
Well, people don’t actually know what they want. No surprise.
With a few changes, this post is true for like every video game released these days. :p
It could be like D3 where there were specific areas for brawling. I really don’t see anything wrong with that.
Another solution is to detatch Obsidian Sanctum from WvW and make it megaserver.
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
Everyone without good stab should party with 1-2 guardians. That’s just how it goes. WvW zergs is a team effort, and trying to cover all corners on your own is gonna fail anyways.
Balance needs to be split 3 way between the 3 modes; the “wvw wasn’t meant to be balanced” crap has led to the current situation, and it’s just silly that pve changes can have such impact in wvw.
It’s time to stop treating wvw as the kitten child of pve.
Hmm, it seems like Auric Basin seems to be the only map to suffer from this.
Hmm, that’s because guilds aren’t important. This game isn’t called… oh crap.
No, but I don’t aim just for rewards for WvW. They are secondary and are earned through playing the game, so as long as I play the game mode, I would have never have given up because I know it is inevitable anyways. I mean there’s no practical value to it. Given that a lot of people turn down character quality in WvW due to performance, it’s likely most people won’t even know what you’re actually wearing. And legendaries themselves don’t really have any useful value more than “I grinded. A lot. Here.” so whether it comes tomorrow or next year is really the same kitten.
Honestly, if you’re not here to come in and out as quickly as possible, I don’t see a problem.
Oh btw, I’ve never finished the diamond chests. If you ask me, I do feel it’s a little steep, but I understand part of it is on me.
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
Because it is war! =p It’s not a duel, a brawl, or a skirmish. It’s 2-3 servers trying to wipe out each other.
Skill lag isn’t usually a problem and it’s not always a given if you’re outnumbered, probably the later is more of an engaging activity. It does lag around SM castle though. I don’t know why.
Personally, I like getting off key reflects/stomps/bursts at an important moment and having these things spell the difference between winning and losing. It’s sorta funny watching a bunch of people explode in either end.
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
I like that particular employee. Even has a habit of targeting our commander and siege burying him. So no, don’t skimp on the blueprints. I’ll remind everyone to throw them in unison.
It’s just a game bro.
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
Now that they dropped the number of targets you can hit with line effect i say they need to make some of the counter play boons a bit weaker. Stab is in a good places but resistances is not. Resistances needs to only work on dmg condition or have a set number that is removed as ppl apply more conditions a lot like stab works for hard cc.
I don’t see how stab is in a good place, you can lose the 10 stacks of stability of armor of earth in less than 1 second in a blob fight. It reduces the viability of smaller groups and of the lightest classes tremendously in large fights.
Uhh, outside of corrupts/boon rip (which was always possible), you can’t lose 10 stacks of stability in a second.
Only one stack of Stability can be removed every .75 seconds.
you can loose it , via boon corruption in a second??
You certainly can. That’s what I said, no? I’ll bold it.
Although the methods of doing it are significantly harder than boon spam. Well of Corruption, the most commonly available method pulses, thus it may not immediately remove stability. Things like Corrupt Boon or nullfication sigils mostly can, but it is single target. Necro also has a few more corruptions here and there. Revs have banish enchantment but none of these are guaranteed to specifically take away stability.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Boon#Traits_that_convert_boons_into_conditions
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Boon#Skills_that_transform_boons_into_conditions
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Boon#Skills_that_remove_boons
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Boon#Traits_that_remove_boons
Of course, while it’s fairly accepted that as a guardian, we will lose our boons, if you’re somehow using Armor of Earth on an ele and that’s still not enough in a zerg, then either you’re the biggest menace to the zerg so that they are targeting you for corrupts or perhaps you don’t have what it takes to run frontline ele/maybe the comp isn’t set up. If you weren’t a frontline ele, then I would suggest you play something more suitable, like Living Story or something.

It’s just silly. The last thing I think of when playing WvW is exploring the map or anything besides attacking the other server.
Fortunately I don’t care about map completion, but really this is heavily dependent on how well your server is doing.
“Hey let’s take that keep deep into enemy territory and jeopardize our position because I need that vista!”
OP, Your concern is appreciated but unfortunately it has to be directed to the right people, and the bug report forum is the best place.
To those that criticized OP, that is fine too, but in the time of arguing one could have done it themselves. This took me about 20 seconds to do:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Enemy-vets-at-friendly-locations-in-wvw
If a mistake is easy to fix, please don’t rub it in and help your fellow, concerned posters out. Fixing bugs benefits us all. Arguing over who’s right only benefits very few. Thanks!

“Completely useless” and “not as good” are two terms these forums never manage to separate. There is too much hyperbole and the masses are fickle, the meta and the game changes as the game gets changed.
it is true that in PvE, the necro’s strengths are just not as needed. Bosses are immune largely to control effects and boons reign supreme. You don’t really need condition manipulation. However it doesn’t mean that if you step into a dungeon you will die instantly and do 0 damage. Don’t bother with conditions in PvE; they are broken due to the 25 condi cap. That is an issue to consider.
If you want to grind hundreds of gold in a short amount of time, then don’t roll an necromancer. You would be a little bit slower. But in these cases, you’re not concerned about rolling a class, rather you’re rolling a farmer and there are better classes for this need— it would be redundant to spend all that time and resources to start up and set up a new toon solely for gold gain and in that case you would be better off just sticking with your established ones.
I think in the majority of situations the difference is harder to notice than some profess and frankly, in your situation you should pick the class that is most fun. It doesn’t matter if you pick a class that is 25% faster if playing every moment feels like a chore.
If you have any interest in WvW though, roll a necro.

I like Stormbluff Isle (in Bloodtide coast) It’s good for foraging, lumber, and also has some water sections that aren’t annoying. It’s generally a peaceful part in the south though sometimes the Inquest will present a hilariously ineffective threat.
Go up North and find that silly fisherman that gets chewed up by a Drake daily. There’s also a convenient pack of raptors good for poultry meat. Finally, if you’re into karma to linen, you could head west.
Bloodtide coast remains a favorite, namely because I remember using it to get daily dodger from the slimes in the days of old. As a side note, I just like zones on the borders of chaos since just further south you’ll meet up with Teq and the Risen, but it seems peaceful here until the risen slowly appear as you head south. It’s pretty well designed if you ask me. For all of Gw2’s lackluster storytelling, I think the best storytelling is made in the atmosphere in the world itself and props to the people that did that because these zones have an idendity. Well, if you give a kitten about stuff like that and not just about bonking the next red name you see, hoping it’ll drop something shiny; in that case you should ignore this post and just mutter “how pretentious” and move on. But in any case, I come back to this zone more often than I should from an objective point of view, and I never do Triple Wurm either.
Plus pirates. Everything is better with pirates.

Light* fields wouldn’t blow so hard if the blast finisher was condition cleanse like the other finishers. It still would be inferior to water but at least it would be closer than this brief retaliation garbage. Like we don’t have access to retaliation or something…
*Thanks for catching that

To me, some things demand effort and perhaps even so called “challenge”, even in non-interactive forms of entertainment.
For example, even when watching a movie or story, there may be hidden meanings and messages that take effort to understand. Failing to understand them might be a failing on the creator’s part to make these things enticing enough but if the audience doesn’t put in their end for effort, it’s not always the piece of work’s fault if they choose not to spoonfeed everything.
As for video games, well, I would hope my actions have a meaningful impact on what happens. Otherwise, why bother?
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
You cannot fix a “meta”; it is something designed by players. In this case, it’s the act of focus firing someone down which is a completely legal move that is needed to make combat viable in the first place, especially on a large scale; yes people can be nuked down; that’s just part of it. There is no concept that can be put in place that makes commanders unable to be targeted down- without making weird exceptions- why is the commander getting special privileges that would require 300g to purchase? Any fix would require inconsistencies— such as the very assumption a group even needs a tag.
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
Most of the game is for causal playing; I don’t mind if the more hardcore get their share.
They’ve also made HoT zones a lot more rewarding and a bit easier in some spots, so that seemed to be catering to the casual crowd as well.
We each make individual choices about what we consider essential, useful, or unnecessary. It hardly matters if any of us agree with ArchonWing’s choices, as long as ArchonWing agrees with them.
The question is whether the game needs to support people carrying everything with them or not. Clearly, ANet’s answer is “no” — the game expects us to make choices about skills & traits; this is hardly different.
The follow-up is therefore: how many items should we be able to carry with us? Currently, that limit is 177 = 8 bags of 20 slots + 17 shared inventory slots.
Surely, that’s enough for anyone who doesn’t regularly swap entire sets of armor via their bank.
So we can restate the issue as: should the game make it easy to swap entire sets of armor without the inconvenience of visiting the bank?
Again, I’ll be first in line to purchase more slots; I can always use more space. However, I think the game already has one of the most generous limits, especially considering how convenient it is to get to a bank, merchant and especially since we have salvage-all and deposit-all.
I think nearly everyone who thinks they need more slots would actually be better served by spending a little time learning faster/easier/more-efficient inventory management. Like any other skill, some people pick it up easily and some people need some training.
Well, the way I see it, the game has changed over time, and I don’t think it’s unreasonable to think certain things don’t have to be sacred. I mean, look at bank tabs for example, which have been growing over time. I think they’ve seen a need for people to carry more crap even though I really feel that there’s no real need to store 14 tabs worth of crap unless you’re really into speculating stuff. And even that is dubious in many cases." So I have 10000 mithril that tripled in price! That’s…. 100 more gold. Yea…"
No doubt people would be better off simply learning to play the game, and it’s something I actively encourage instead of , heh, complaining but I do see where people are coming from. Shared Inventory Slots are very expensive, and bag slots being bound to a single character also make it quite the expensive proposition.
And convenience for the sake of a want, not a need, has long been a thing in the gem store. I bought the node pack as it was on sale lately and also got the winterberry bush, so I can easily do the gatherer daily from town. Do I really need that to do a gatherer daily? No, I wouldn’t even recommend doing such a thing to anyone. But it’s just nice to have.
So I think it’s just better to talk in terms of QoL rather than in-game efficiency since while these complaints definitely overlap with these things, there are also situations which it really doesn’t as Tom.6478 has brought up.

You should honestly be proud! You’ve created such a strong emotional response without doing anything malicious, meaning you’re doing something right.
These pitiful souls are spending time thinking about you and how to defeat this person that wronged them by besting them in a video game, while you probably don’t even know who they are. They’re striving to be better people because as you know if you lose to someone in a video game, your life has no value. Though technically, there is no game mode that consists solely of one person defeating the other in a fight that determines victory or defeat.
Well, no, people like that can’t ever improve because any mistake is pushed onto someone else, instead of like, you know, playing better. Just mail them a packet of salt.
Are you tired of fighting tanky druids that heal all day while their pets kill you?
Are you tired of fighting condi chronophantasm chronomancers that dish out so much condi burst and yet have so much defense?
Are you tired of fighting Adrenal Health pumped berserkers with durability runes?
Are you tired of fighting full evade condi and power daredevils?
Are you tired of fighting high sustain scrappers? This build allows you to take on many of the cheesiest roaming builds in WvW.
It is a variant of the metabattle PvP symbol build.
You also have enough damage to kill non-sustain builds.Warning : It is a super boring build. Against other sustain cheese builds, tank builds, healing builds, you can duel up to an hour with no clear winner. On the up side, with this build, they won’t be able to kill you now.
I dueled a full evade DD for 1 hour yesterday and neither could kill the other. And this was just one of many other similar fights against other sustain builds. Stalemate.
And I am just a new Dragonhunter of about 2 weeks and still learning the class =/If you want more mobility you can
- swop scepter for sword and
- contemplation of purity for judge’s intervention and
- runes of durability for traveler runes
This will allow you to escape most outnumbered situations. You will fare worse against condi enemies though. I will recommend the mobility build if you are running with a party. If you are solo, I will recommend the durability runes build above.
Note: I totally will not want to make this my main roaming build. I will still prefer to go marauder + zerk on my dragonhunter because it is so much more fun. Although not as good against all the sustain cheese in WvW now, but no I will not fight fights that last an hour with no winner.
I’m not tired of any of those things. What I am tired of is all the dueler complaints in this game mode and the many profession threads…
Y’all don’t look at the combat systems and elements as a whole, y’all complain about individual profession builds.
You main a slow as all get out necro that depends on players sticking around to fight, but most aren’t going to stand and fight like an “honorable warrior”. You don’t corner the market on conditions now either… You’re a dueler complaining about 1v1 stuff in an rvr mode, so the logical step would be to go spvp for your 1v1 and small scale fight needs, and leave complaints in that section.
And the “sustain cheese” builds you complain about is pretty common because players are getting blasted with a crap ton of damage and need to survive longer than 3 seconds of combat…
Funny of you to complain about ranger pets, which is a forced class mechanic that accounts for a 3rd of the factored damage, that struggles to hit moving targets in the first place… Maybe move and dodge around a bit instead right?
You want to complain about having access to equal movement skills across professions so you can kite better? Ok
You want to complain about the condi system as a whole? Ok
You want to complain about mid fight stealth mechanics? Ok
You want to come here and give objective, not isolated, feedback about a number of topics? Ok
All ok, but please stop pushing your 1v1 dueling complaints in the mass combat rvr section.
Sorry, I hate to tell you this, but world vs world isn’t just about mass combat, and your rant is largely irrelevant. It doesn’t exclusively have to be about 1v1. It could be any form of small scale combat, including just any time one isn’t with a zerg.
Pray tell, since you seem enlightened about what’s okay to discuss and not discuss, which forum would be most appropriate for “1v1 dueling”? If you say sPvP, you are wrong and would display a complete lack of understanding of both WvW and PvP. I’ll give you a hint though. Go join a ranked PvP game (or unranked for the matter) and find someone to duel, off point, and tell everyone else to back off.
Honestly, I don’t understand the hostility. Getting killed by these folks on your way to the train or something?

Adult concepts do not necessarily make a story “better” just for having them.
Relative to saying “death doesn’t make a story good”. Like I said, that’s not what I’m suggesting. The problem is that GW2 already has adult concepts. They simply haven’t implemented them correctly or at least in a meaningful way.
Your concepts are sound, although the particular suggestion of yours is not really adult storytelling as much as it is “teenage angsty storytelling” which I don’t think is particularly better and I’m afraid it gets confused with so called “mature storytelling”.
That was a very narrow and blunt example. Given appropriate details, it could have far more significance. I suppose something I should have mentioned is how character’s should be dense in their own right.
As it stands, the lot of characters in GW2 are way too versatile. You could pretty much swap them around and nothing much would change. Instead, especially when you have such a vast selection, they all need to be more focused and centered around deeper conditions. So when there’s collision, it provides a powerful event that then leads to further conditioning.
Characters are nothing more than the harbinger for emotive emphasis. Constructing meaningful adult storytelling inevitably means taking advantaged of how far you can push those emotions so that the audience is able to develop better connections for or against; then leading them on a well-rounded path.
Yea I understand, it’s just that there’s a very fine line between these kinds of things.
I think for that to work, they would have to really have to decide on what to focus on. At the moment, I guess they are trying to focus on a few characters, but a lot of it just isn’t being bought though I guess Taimi actually works to some degree taking things into context.
As it is now, I think the writers have to take a step back because the question of “What are we trying to express beyond having stuff to happen?”though I guess that is standard RPG fare.
It’s because of that stupid champion achievement.
Anyhow, It’s only natural people flock to Queensdale. It’s a superior endgame zone than Cursed Shore ever was since it has a large variety of events and beautiful looking terrain and is generally a pleasant place to be. Where else are you gonna go?
Ah yes. Ask for so much, criticize so much, and offersso little..
Commanding is stressful which is why I don’t do it. People busy moaning about the commander but nobody gives a kitten on how the commander’s feelings are. All tbe harassment, sniping, and this.
I will bet 50 gold these people would probably would not last 30 minutes. And then thus thst is why they are reliant on the dorito for a reason. They aten’t doing it so someone has to.
So yes, break the dependence or play along. Either is benificial. You don’t get bags from posting though.

The fact that there needs to be entire discussions about how to do a single daily effectively while most other dailies can be intuitively completed already shows how out of tune it is with everything else.
If people want WvW dailies, it takes me all of 2 minutes to show them. If I don’t have the time I just tell them to get a good dps/stealth class and avoid combat. And guess what? They do it without fail even if they don’t do any form of pvp.
I am someone that hasn’t missed a daily unless I haven’t been able to log on at all for the past year. So yes, I can figure it out on my own. Yet I can understand why people are frustrated even though. Stop patronizing people and assuming they’re just all gold/AP chasers that want to be given it by logging in.
Of course they can complete know how to complete a Central Tyria event, but the daily creates specific situations that may or may not happen when you are around. It doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. Even if it happens around 1/3 of the time, that’s enough for me to seek an alternative.
Hint: If an option is out of whack with the others, then maybe there’s legitimate reasons why it gets unpopular. It’s a simple matter of consistency.
It’s the same reason why I think, say it makes little sense for Daily Land Claimer to consist only of 1 sentry, but Daily Camp is 2 camps! Is it hard to take 2 camps? No, not at all, but it’s an inconsistency worth mentioning.
Personally, I view login rewards as the way to fish people in, and the daily tasks as a thing to keep them going for a bit. As an example of an effective zone completer daily would be one of the HoT ones. There’s no shortage of events and the nature of the map encourages players to further participate in the map. If it’s VB at night and you just got yourself up to 100% participation, it makes little sense to just jet out. Might as well wait a little more for the chest. This does have the effect of having people play the game longer because they’re working towards something that goes beyond a daily.
There’s a big difference between people that came for a daily and now are patting themselves on the back for helping with a meta, and people that came for a daily and their response when finishing is “Thank God it’s Over!” Because it’s a game, not waiting at the DMV.

What’s sadder? People abusing a feature like that or the fact the game can’t even get something as simple as a block system working right in the year 2015.
OP your title made me think no, but after reading your post, I think that’s a good idea. >.>
Also hostile devs sound hilarious. Totally for it.
What’s the point in playing. What’s the point in anything other than to put food into ur stomach and ensure stuff comes out as it should. Sometimes people ask what is the point in that too
I’m sry I don’t mean to be so snide. But it’s hilarious so not!
Nah, I think it’s fine. Existential crises are for the weak minded.
External validation for achievements in a video game are desired but not always mandatory.

It’s impossible to provide an even match with random people joining and leaving for every match. They could do MMR but that’s pointless for a holiday activity. It’s going to be like this for any PvP activity including the Wintersday one. It’s a bit strange though as the issue is exactly the same for the Wintersday one and yet there are people praising that one over Dragonball. Just saw that in map chat earlier.
In the end, decide whether it’s fun for you or not. If it’s not fun then don’t do it. Pretty simple. If you feel that you have to do it in order to chase some AP, and feel miserable for doing something you don’t enjoy, there’s really only one person to blame.
When the Arena cannot even get a full game at 5:30 PM PST with two tries , then I think the problem isn’t merely imagined. People really don’t like it.
It’s no longer a problem with getting fairly matched games— it’s a problem with getting a game period.
Why…. would they do this? I don’t get it at all.
I would never pick a karma boost anyways, and it’s not like karma does that much anyways, but this is ridiculous.
Ok shield knockback I can see, but the rest? Really? What if a doe just walks into it?
Typical tunnel visioned crap for balance changes just for the sake of it.

I would like to thank Anet for changing the rate of the heroics gained in WvW to be obtainable in 100 world ranks instead of 200. Not a perfect solution and I don’t like the soulbound part but it is definitely something I can manage. Now that I may just not bother unlocking various skills, the number of hero points I need may decrease as well.
Thanks to all the Kaineng and DH that let us jump in that stupid JP in peace though I apologize if an SBI guardian accidentally took a few swings at you as it was making me kinda dizzy and disoriented. (Stupid auto target)

Do people really spend their time on stuff like pvdooring a fortified gate? I can generally think of better things to waste my life on.
Anyhow, the change seems a bit random.
It’s amusing. The other month people were up in arms because Mike O’Brien insinuated that very few people played the WvW game mode exclusively. Now when you ask where all the WvW players are, you’ll be told “they’re in PvE.” Guess he was right afterall.
Heyo! I’d like to introduce you to a guy – me! I am a hardcore WvWer! I exclusively played WvW during its heyday.
Due to a plethora of reasons, I have quit WvW (and thus GW2) in early 2014. I am not the only hardcore/exclusive WvWer who quit. Far from it. Guess who is mostly left now? Non-hardcore players, who only do WvW like 5% of their game time as a novelty thing. Because those who only did WvW have quit long ago because ANet does a p-poor job at WvW.Seriously, you could have arrived at that yourself.
Always anets fault. Never the players. You’re part of the problem in my eyes. You quit close to 2 years ago yet still lurk the forums and spit out your hate towards anet and this game mode. I feel bad for new players that come to these forums. Forum is full of people that don’t even play anymore yet still hate on this game every second they can..
I was fine with this game mode never changing but NOOOOOOOOOO. People wanted changes and now will not adapt to any change. I saw this coming after the few test events we had and that was just temp stuff yet the rage in these forums was real.. Players is what is starting to ruin this game mode for me and nothing else..
The new pve content is actually challenging. Mobs there give me better fights than 99% of the players I run into in wvw. Plus they don’t nike away when they get below 50% health. Its no longer boring stack here and spam 1 to win. You would know all this if you actually still played then you might actually realize why wvw is so empty ATM.
I couldn’t agree more. Seems so odd to me that folks swear up and down that the quit and don’t play, yet post things on the forums, claiming to know what is going on in game.
Not only that, but my experience suggest he is wrong as well. I see literally hundreds of players throughout the week, that are hard core and have been around since release. I am not suggesting things are full, and all is divine. But I certainly do not see the sky falling.
I see very many trickling g back into WvW, but my friends list is full of players doing PvE because it is more effecient for the elite spec.
Don’t forget the insane amount of threats about quitting every time something happens, and then you see the same people threatening to quit for years. This seems to happen a lot in the class specific forums more, and I am like “Wow, have you rerolled or quit yet?”. Heck, I was bitter towards necros for the longest time and would express stuff, but I’ve moved on, and apparently the reaper has finally brought things to a better place.
It’s sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy of some sorts. Basically, one can’t resolve matters and they come back from time to time to go “I told you so!”. This can be seen in a number of posts that are merely to vent and not to give feedback.
There’s just so many examples of myopic vision that centers from within one’s own biases with a number of absolutist statements that have no real way of verifying An example would be with WvW achievements, exclaiming the reduction is a bad idea because it’s apparently too easy but without considering a quick look at other achievements and one could see that it’s more of an issue of consistency and comparability— so it is very hard to take those opinions seriously. From the other extreme, we can see in the 400 vs 250 Hero point for elites debate that some people who don’t play WvW at all just simply argue strictly from a PvE perespective yet pretend WvW doesn’t exist despite the effect it has on it and dismiss any possibility things could possibly be different on this end.
And then this leads to very black and white thinking of defining whoever’s a real WvW’er and who’s not and this rather laughable exaggeration of self-importance. Of course, nobody will doubt the importance of dedicated players, but when it becomes an “us vs them” situation, then I’m certainly very unsympathetic to those with that kind of elitist attitude towards so called non-hardcore players or whatever. and then people complain WvW is empty? Duh….?
Again, this goes beyond agreeing or disagreeing with the state of the quality of the game, and I certainly think there’s any number of issues to discuss, but definitely, I am of the mindset that if one is just here to be salty then they’re just part of the problem— so I agree with Briggah here. I am here because I’m a WvW’er, I like WvW, and like a number of WvW’ers I’m too stupid to quit despite the odds. How many people can have that excuse though?

This Queen Jennah and her anti-shoe agenda.
But I have to laugh. I have seen demands for it in the past, so it’s good it was met I suppose.
Well, they could have just called it “vendor junk” but they needed something that sounded cooler.
To be fair though, if you replaced the names of 90% of my loot with “vendor” junk, nothing would have changed.
It’s indicative a lot of things in wvw. Bascially nobody cares about being kittened as long as they are the ones doing the kittening. Just like how when they blob, it’s a skill group, and when they get blobbed, it’s a bunch of mindless zombies that they would easily beat had they not been playing with their cat on the keyboard.
Throw mine was fun and actually a pretty solid choice but its funny you mention it because the tool belt ability on throw mine will 100-0 kill you faster then nades as far as retal is concerned.. It has happened to me on a couple separate occasions funny as hell . I actually want to try throw mine with with a tool/inv/scrap (mines everywhere!) build but i mite have to bulk up on toughness/vit if im losing ironblood and the occasional adaptive armor
I’m not really sure how mine field, could kill you as fast as nades could considering you can’t spam it at all and you could really just hit the same amount of targets with nades. You’d have to be pretty kitten ed lucky, but TBH the only time I’ve died to retaliation is when I foolishly overload fire on ele (remind me to not do that). But it’s more of the combo of reflects + retaliation— I mean, yea I’ve opened nades in zergs before. I’ve even done FT! But I’m going to tell everyone the risks involved.
You and a couple of others are making the case for Inv/tool like i dont know about it. trust my friends I know all about it. inv/alch/scrap was my first frontline build but like anything else i got a little better at staying alive so now i can trade out some survive -ability for raw damage.
There’s only 6 trees lol, so yes the chance you’ve come across it is high. Of course many of us have played engineer (I sure hope!) and inventions is just one that’s hard to let go. It’s not like any of us introduced firearms right? If you can survive without it, that’s fine. I just don’t like a damage oriented tree because I feel one could just gear more aggressively and since a good chunk of the damage is biased towards explosive, which again, I’ve expressed potential problems with the dps being realized.
lol there it is…. GREN. What is it about this community?
Let me ask are the people who still think GWEN/GREN is the only viable comp the same people voting for trump? Classism? i swear …..
Wah, call me narrow minded or dumb or something. That’s too far man.
But seriously, you really think I told you to go play another class? Why would I even bother commenting on builds and utilities then, or even open this thread beyond “LOLZ PLay A REVEANT”?
What you choose to play is your own decision, but you can’t just ignore the meta because the enemies and some of your allies are most likely following some variant of it so it’s a good idea to know where you stand in it. There’s a reason why your own group consists of 2 guardians and a rev— they’re indispensable, and meanwhile you are competing against eles and warriors for the same spots! This is a fact. If your group is able to accommodate your needs, that is definitely swell, but usually when it comes to this thread, we’re generally talking about giving advice to the general public well.
All I am saying is that it is very hard to compete with these things currently, and (I’m not sure how you didn’t read the last part), that the recent whack to tempests might give scrappers a place to stand more so. So again, where is this classism?
Interestingly enough, metabattle lists scrappers (but not warriors) as part of the wvw meta which brings me a chuckle since metabattle isn’t everything. But it’s still amusing enough to bring up and the general quality of the WvW section has steadily gone up, so….. are there some sick Toss Elixir R scrappers running around or something?

Some more notable changes:
Reduced the health and defense bonuses provided by reinforced and fortified walls and gates at towers.
Updated the Mystic Forge vendor to also sell Siege Masters Guides in quantities of 10.
Why does chilling darkness have a cd? When did this happen?
anet thought it’s too OP with well of darkness, plague, bitter chill and all the chill-related stuff that comes at some day with the reaper. so they made sure noone ever uses it again
I always seem to come in here and find something else that’s unbelievably bad has happened. And that’s sort of why I haven’t touched necro much since the specialization patch.
But this is the trend for necro balance. X being op if A, B, C is taken so that’s taken for granted when nerfs happen to X, screwing over builds that do not use A, B, and C.
Oh yes, that is quite an issue. My server is utterly helpless without a tag and if not for people spending tireless hours commanding it would have easily went under. That has unfortunately led to burnout of many fine wvw’ers who sadly have grown resentful of followers, although this is true of many dedicated wvw’ers who care about winning. In the end this has lead to my server— SBI— being unable to retain serious wvw groups that are willing to uphold this burden on many occasions.
Getting other people to lead is hard because your average pug isn’t going to let you use them as a training exercise. :p And sadly that means they’ll only follow whoever reliably gets them loot and thus new tags often get shunned or shouted out. A pity really. People will cry for tags, and then only want a tag they want.
IMO, the worst aspect of a lot of gw2 gameplay is that it encourages complacency because working harder doesn’t really get rewarded anyways. Adding in to the need for instant gratification that is so prevalent in this day and age means there’s no patience or understanding for others.
So why not just half heartedly set 1 to autoattack and hide in a blob rather than taking initiative and being insulted every time you make a mistake? Plus a lot of people probably don’t want to bother with ordering over voice coms which I feel is sort of needed. In the end, the many in wvw owe a ton to the few, and that leads to burnout.
In any case, I agree with pretty much your entire post.

So what would be the “recommended” specs?
OS: Windows 7 SP1 64-bit or newer
Processor: i3-2100 or better
memory: 6 GB of ram or more
Hard Drive: SSD with 50 GB or more of free space
Video Card (Gee, I don’t know anything about old cards). Gtx 750, HD 7770, or betterwhat your suggesting is something that will not work very long and would only need to be rewrote all over again . thus so this is my idea of new low end specs
OS: Windows 10 64-bit or newer
I-5 Intel Core i5-7600K Kaby Lake Quad-Core 3.8 GHz LGA 1151 91W BX80677I57600K Desktop Processor
or AMD FX-8350 Black Edition Vishera 8-Core 4.0 GHz (4.2 GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 125W FD8350FRHKBOX Desktop Processor
memory 16 gigs of CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 × 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9
hard drive space of 200 gigs or more . same for SSD drives and
MSI GeForce GTX 970 GAMING 4G VR ready
Sorry, that’s not a “low-end” spec list, though to be fair, it’s not even a list for any spec of anyone. Hint: A 7600k with that ram doesn’t even work.
Windows 10, lovely system, but why?
You mention 7600k and FX together. Sorry, lol. Those are not anything resembling equivalent nor do they fit together in a “low” end spec. Or even high end. You could at least mention the upcoming Ryzen 5s Why 7600k? Are you telling someone with a 4690k to ditch it and get kaby lake instead? What if someone sees, yo, I only have a 2500k, let me “upgrade” to a fx-8350.
GTX 970??? So people can buy a GPU fall asleep for Gw2? Now, I only have an old 1680 × 1050 monitor but my 1060 might occasionally approach 1/2 load in the most intensive WvW big fights. Either card is overkill and will always be until they rewrite the game engine. Pro Tip: Don’t buy a new 970
Why 16 GB of ram? Nice to have but Gw2 uses like 2-3. Also, I’m not sure why it is so specific.
You’re going to burn holes in casual players’ wallets. Please do some more research.
The point of recommended specs is to inform people rather if their old computer can play Gw2 and maintain a decent experience (30+ fps at 1080p). Nobody is going to go out and buy a new i3-2100 since anyone with 1 good eye will see they can buy the newer i3s for the same cost. However, they might see that their Core 2 Duo is too old and they can go improve their experience by getting a new i3-7100 or Pentium G4560 and enjoy a new experience for cheap. But someone with an i3-4160 is going to be like “oh, I guess I’ll hang on to this until it breaks”
200 gig space when Gw2 needs 30?
Likewise, someone with a GTX 460 or something is going to go out and pick up a nice little Rx 460 for $80 and enjoy a modern card that can play new games. But someone with a 950 or 1050 can stay put and wait before upgrading.
How does your list help anyone choose anything?
If you desire silky smooth 60 fps at ridiculously high resolutions, then sure get the latest and greatest, but why would Anet here or anyone else need to inform you of that? You’d do it anyways. Yes I know new AAA titles ridiculously bloat their recommended to get you to buy new computers, but this is a 5 year old MMO where accessibility is a priority
In all seriousness, allow me to revise this.
“Power Settings”
Windows 7 64 Bit or Higher
2nd generation Intel I5 or I7 Processor or newer or Ryzen
8 GB of ram
50 GB of Free space, SSD
GTX 760 or R9 270 or better
I mean you could do such a thing, but really, is it worth the effort?
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
Well, that’s the sad thing about gathering raw materials— most of it isn’t usable. You might really just get a single plank out of a tree.
Please, think of the environment.
In b4 global warming event.
Indeed, something is seriously wrong.
I’m afraid it’s user error.
A level 50’ish characater has much more tools at their disposal then a level 13. Use level appropriate gear and consumables. And check out what traits you can use, as well as the various weapons. Or you can complain about it, but that doesn’t do damage.
(edited by ArchonWing.9480)
tl;dr It’s okay to burst down someone, and they shouldn’t complain. But if it happens to you….
