I used to think (build op, pls nerf) like you, but then I took a nerf to the knee.

I can’t speak for anyone else but what impresses me isn’t a rare or expensive item but a good combination of items and dyes.
You could have the rarest, most expensive, hardest to obtain items in the game but if they make you look like a complete mess then it’s not impressive. On the other hand you could be using low-level crafted gear, common dyes and loot weapons skins but if you put them together in a way that works, with a distinctive theme, it can look amazing.
I agree with this.
I also agree that some people feel like they have garnered some measure of prestige or exclusivity by… well… being in a certain place at a certain time, then I have no reason to take that away from them.
I’m far more impressed with ingenuity/clever usage of existing gear/new spins on items people thought tacky or silly rather than someone running around with [+1 sword of hard-to-get].
saw a greatsaw in WvW. It was neat. <3
saw a good dye job in the mists. It was outstanding.
If you have both aesthetic cunning and a unique item that works with what you’ve put together, then you can usually expect a congratulatory/fawning mail from me.

LUCK.
Don’t you miss walking around the town searching the stores that people create in town and getting all excited when you find a store/shop with amazing item etc etc?
Don’t you miss creating a store/shop before going to sleep? This TP system did bring so much passiveness into the game : (
Huh nostalgia xDI really miss running around the town, and checking out all the sitting players who were selling goodies in their own stores/shops!
Actually we could have this “custom sitting” stores which would avoid taxes.
Nope.
More convenient is more convenient, trading tax keeps the pricing balanced.
I read “double shortbow” and I stood up in my chair and staggered against the wall.
This is either the beginning of madness or the most genius thing I have ever witnessed.
Arena.net DIDN’T get 200 gems profit from you. They got effectively NOTHING from you.
This entire change is all about making the gold to gem conversion process as difficult and irritating as possible. Hell, if it wouldn’t amount to outright revolt, I bet you the gold to gem process would have been gone yesterday.
Because, ya know, as irritating as it is now, you STILL have more options than someone who buys gems with cold, hard cash. And Arena.net wants you doing THAT, because THAT is money.
They’re now targeting the F2P crowd that is well used to this model, and have come to accept it. Because THAT crowd spends money. They spend a LOT of money. And probably far more than everyone complaining in this thread put together.
Sad but true.
As I said before, the only thing that will be lost from a player who decides “hey, I dont want to spend any money on this and get cash shop items for free” and quits because he cant do that is the memory required to render his avatar in the world.
The players in game are just going to fork over 400 gems if they can, and get on with their lives.
It’s really, really bad for players, like myself, who may have leftover gems and want to supplement that with gold conversions, but seeing as how many of the players apparently cannot do math, ignoring the uneven gem balance would probably be less strain on precious brain cells.
“But I’ll tell my friends not to play!!” wont even fly either, because I’m sure those used to the F2P, cash shop model have friends too.
Of course, this is all just assuming you need the gem store at all.
could just pretend the whole thing doesnt exist and leave it as a perk to people who actively and consistently support the game.

Simple question. Why do YOU not run meta, if you do? Are you aware you are crippling your team? Do you think that you are NOT actually crippling your team?
Just a random question, after 3 matches with/against SD engi, Fresh Air eles, GS warrior, healing necros (this one actually surprised me so much I took me more than a few moments to understand it was not a normal necro) ecc.ecc.
There are all kinds of players.
Some are crippling the team, but note that the meta was created by players.
There are people that are trying different builds as well that either could very well be meta quality or are played so well by that particular player that the output quality is the same.
It’s a coin flip.
[If not looking for a genuine answer, Gr8 B8 M8]
[I run partial meta. 3/0/0/5/6 D/P Zerker Thief.]
Welcome to GW2.
Where if your class is reasonably comfortable, people cry until you don’t want to play it anymore.
Reapers are balanced
How dare you use that word in the PvP forum!
I- I’m sorry!
I didn’t know!
What if you took out a mini Jennah, and she took out a mini Logan. A miniature mini. How awesome would that be?
Minception
There is some hard-core drama queen thieves in here. All cranky over a 6 second reveal. But it’s ok, I get it. I mean after all, you thieves ha e literally no idea how to fight an opponent that can see you. ; P
Sure cant. We have the lowest hp pool in the game and everyone got a damage buff.
Our defensive measure is literally only given to us as a trait when we are in stealth. And it was nerfed before we got it, because [reasons].
I don’t see how people can just ignore that. Common sense says that if you increase the dps of every class, and increase all the mitigation availability of said classes, but allow the class with the smallest hp pool to have its defense removed because [reasons], they’re going to be justifiably angry.
My bad guys, the ones no one runs are not telegraphed. You got me.
Who is this no one, and where can I find him.
Better question, what reveals ‘are’ telegraphed? Why is stealthing not okay because [no counterplay], but reveals without counterplay are?

It obviously is to cater to people who cannot put numbers in the conversion rate boxes and see what currency gets them what equivalent.
Noted, sometimes it was kind of aggravating to not be able to see “how many gems I would get for this amount of gold” and vice versa. That could have been addressed.
What is glaring me in the face is that players that want to exchange gold for gems now have to do it in sets of 400 which heavily gates them from obtaining something that, in the store, costs much less.
Want a key? Grind to 400.
Want a booster? grind to 400.
Want that silly phantom mask that came out that will be gone in two weeks? grind 75 gold or no dice bro.
I mean, they didnt even make any effort to hide it. They could have gone down to exchange rates for 100 and still gotten the same result. Obviously though, they have much more favor on people trading gems to gold. That’s just strikingly apparent now, so claims and arguments of “pay to win/gem shop focused” will have much more weight now.
interesting is, if the players that do exchange gold for gems slow down in buying them and the prices on that UI are influenced by the relative gem pile to the gold pile undergoing conversion, gem prices will go down as gold becomes harder and harder to trade for. This is assuming that those conversion rates are still community influenced though.
Could see gold inflation on the market from this if I’m not having a dunce moment.

Magi.
Crit build Magi.
DO IT.
I think it’s easy to say something is unbalanced at a first glance, but when you really start to see the intricacies of the downed state, you see that it allows for a lot of really cool things. I’d say the only thing I don’t like about the downed state is necro downed state skills and bleeding people out. Otherwise, builds like 100 mines wouldn’t exist (BEST BUILD EVER) because it does way too much damage and it would insta kill people, rather than insta down people.
Not only is downed state not killing PvP, I think it is what defines PvP. How well you handle your team going down changes absolutely everything. A team that was ahead and decides to go for a multi-res could completely wipe, thus turning the game around. Decided between DPSing the enemy down to get a rally, resing an ally or interrupting a stomp is a huge decision and one that takes a lot of understanding of the game and quick thinking.
+1
Glad that some people can see it as another layer of gameplay and not a block to existing gameplay.
Yes and no.
Yes because the elementalist is overpowered with it, no because the elementalist is too frail without it.
+1 for rework. Whoever implemented that trait somehow found the finest line between destruction and invulnerability and seated elementalist right on the middle of it. I’m still trying to figure out if that’s a stroke of genius or just the worst luck in the world. (best luck in the world?)
This is just a whine post about how irritating Perma-Stealth thieves are and how they seem designed for the sole purpose of being annoying and nothing else.
My solutions:
[nerf thieves]
Top kek.
the funny thing is this NPE, to my knowledge, didn’t even bother to tell players that combo fields were a thing.
you are not blamed for not knowing. you essentially have to accidentally discover it, have someone tell you, or read the wiki to even know what they do.
Yes, it’s pay to skin. That’s part of how they fund the servers to keep the game running.
You can grind to get anything you want with enough effort though, because gold can be traded for gems.
The fact that you have the opportunity to gain what you want through just playing the game, and are sore about the fact that cosmetic items that have no real bearing on the game and player skill level cannot be obtained extremely quickly without paying is a very shallow and selfish viewpoint, if I can be that frank with you.
Let them ‘cash grab’. if they were offering an easy way for paying players to win against people that put effort into learning game functionality, then this would be an issue. Shinies are not that serious.
The problem with this is the entire content they are constantly pushing and adding forces more stale, cassually focussed 2 blues and a green farmville style of gameplay. Wich in turn catters to more gemstore purchases because people dont want to farm.
Aka the ‘updates’ we receive are solely created to keep people busy, not for them to have fun. at its core. grind. wich in turn adds gemstore revenue. Thats how guildwars is killing itself. You can see it at every step of the LS.
Content became more shallow over time. Perfect example, the whole scarlett ordeal, very generic style of story telling + updates wich where big but removed every biweek. Versus farmville LS2.0
I hardly see this game as farming. I think that is a viewpoint that can easily be broken if people take the time to do it.
I rarely farm anything. I bum around PVE sometimes, PVP more often, WVW and EoTM pretty often, and sometimes run dungeons with friends.
The game -throws gold- at you for doing pretty much anything. Farming is just an easy way to kill it for yourself.
And regards your above point, RNG not being the master of everything would water down sales for those items, which would drive people to farm something else.
Off on a tangent; maybe, but guaranteed drops won’t stop the farming mentality people have.
The problem is, if newly added content requires you to play the game for 1 hour and then farm for a week. SW, then it IS very much farming.
If the game threw gold at me then why did it take me 4 months to scrape together the fractal backpiece because i didnt understand lucrative farming methods back then for 250 ectos?
Two things, we can address the rest later.
Is there any content right now that -requires- you to farm? Farming is a strategy developed by players.
How should I know. Rare drops are frequent. If you have that goal in mind, there are several avenues that provide salvagable rares for you to achieve it. You dont need to shoehorn yourself into one thing to do it.
I agree that there should be some fixes to RNG, as well as ‘casual’ rewards. The game surely isnt perfect and could use improvement in those areas.
But take note that “Fun” is exactly what you make of it, and it is not a concrete definition Anet can just provide. There’s still lots of ways to have fun -and- make progress/attain shinies that don’t involve throwing money at the game. It just takes a little wit and a determination to not grind yourself into being disgusted with repetition.

There are already tons of different skins unavailable to WvW/sPvP players who don’t play PvE.
And PvE is already by far the most updated part of GW2.
Can’t see the forest for the trees.
or in this case, can’t see the variety in PVE armor because the newest set was for PVP.
How is Cele signet necros even over powered?
because it [apparently] counters d/d ele.
not overpowered stand-alone though.
And if he tries using SR when he has revealed on him instead of dodging, evading, porting, blinding, interrupting, etc. he made a stupid mistake.
I understand OPs frustration, but gonna have to agree with this. One of the first routines a thief should learn is checking status bar to see if he is currently revealed, which goes doubly so vs either Ranger or Engie.
If you try to SR when revealed that’s a mistake, not overwhelming unfairness, especially in the case of ranger and engie where you can just Dagger storm until not revealed or, in the event that said class is in your face, Black powder/infil arrow/shadow shot or any other port/blind/interrupt until you can stealth.

Functional is better than diverse.
That being said, I’d take 27 possible trait lines per category where all of them provide reasonable benefits instead of the option to spec partially into one trait line in order to get one thing I like.
Everyone thinks thieves ask to be Op in 1v1. All thieves ask for is to actually have some chance vs some classes. Right now as thief gameplay: there is enemy? Run away.
People don’t do pvp to spend entire match running away. Players pvp to experience play vs player COMBAT which developers decided to deny to thieves.
Once HoT comes out, revs will completely shuit down thieves and no sb5 in the world will keep them in pvp. Best part, according to votes on reddit, this class was rated worst in EVERY area of this game.
Yes, thief is playable if you are REALLLLLYYYY good at it and you have REALLLY good team that you can rely on. They don’t have you as thief to help them, they have you as a pet that can help to increase the score difference. That is all. As thief you actually have close to no influence on match outcome if your team is not destroying enemy team already. You think this is fun? Do you really think it is fun to be a worthless pet?
There is one wrong thing in your post which kinda breaks your post whole.
PvP Arenas aren’t about pvping – they’re about holding points for as long as possible.
You don’t have to kill or engage in battle even once, as long as you’ll cap points.
In WvW on the other hand, thieves shine if played well.
Holding points involves fighting off players that come to capture those points, as well as defeating players currently occupying a point.
Both of those situations require battle.
Unless I’m insane, PVP is strictly about pvping.
Wars have too much counter play? Their down states is one of the best in game and almost uncounterable-
Im going to stop you there.
Hammer toss is useless against blind, block, stealth, has a long cast time, and is easily dodgeable.
Even if you get hit by it, you still have enough time to stomp a war before their Vengeance is even usable.
Theres too much counter play. read up on the down state for Wars before thinking they’re remotely useful on the ground if someone is reasonably aware of them being down.
warr has just been spoilt with 100% adr all the time without needing to spend a single utility or trait slot. now you need to devote some part of your build to adr generation.
this is still a far better position than e.g. Eles, who need to devote 4 trait points to both water and arcane plus 1-3 utility slots just to make use of their class mechanic and survive.
Most sane warriors already do this. the problem is they’re being punished for it with the almost instant decay the moment they’re out of combat.
If you paid attention to the SoR change you would see that warrs passively gen adrenaline a bit faster now by just slotting it.
None of that matters when your fight is over and your full bars of adren are gone in 10 seconds.
Tell me more about how Elementalists being pseudo-tanks with heavy might stacks is a worse position though.
Does anyone know what the average time is for gaining 1 bar of adrenaline? What it do people think it should be? … I’m not hearing this information anywhere. It seems quite pertinent to the topic.
Depends on traits, how much you crit, whether you hit at all, burn your heal, etc.. it can be anywhere from “fast-as-balls-” to " ~5 seconds."
We have lots of neatly spread out options for adrenaline gain. the problem is that those traits become useless when we are placed in intermittent combat positions. I’m fine with the drain on miss, that makes warrs think a bit more. Now, we’re exposed to fight resets.
the “instant decay” feature was just added to force warriors to spend adrenaline that might now be compelled to hoard it due to the “you miss, you reset” feature added into a combat situation that prides itself on no hits being guaranteed vs. an opponent that does not want to let them happen.
Not that warriors -won’t- hoard now though. It’s just an all around handicap for warriors that find themselves in an intermittent noncombat situation with low health and lower adrenaline, or players that have to rely on their bursts for significant damage because they run wet-noodle bunker.
instead of simply nerfing the cc Hammer had, which was the overall issue when combined with longbow, or even just the flat damage of the hammer, Anet instead crippled the core class mechanic for the entire profession, affecting the majority of warriors who used it as a primary source of damage.
It was an overreaction to a very specific problem, really. they didn’t want evisc spam, but they didn’t want hoarding either, so wars got shoehorned into a “kitten ed if you do, kitten ed if you dont” situation.

I am literally crying.
This is gold.
Hi all,
I have been told that The Edge of The Mists is the best place to level up a character. Is this correct? Is it recommended that I should continue doing The Edge of The Mists right up to level 80? Is there another strategy? I personally enjoy the PvE activities, but am wondering on the best way to level my character.
I have a level 37 elementalist.
Thanks in advance
Don’t worry about the comment above. Take it with a grain of salt.
Edge of the Mists is decent for leveling, but only if you run with a “Karma train”, that is, a group of people that run around taking objectives in the map for the sole purpose of farming Karma/gold/training.
If you’re on your own, you are at the mercy of any non-AI that catches sight of you.
Thanks for the hard work and the nifty looking revamp. Looking forward to it.
The first time I saw “Thief can +1 the best, so its relevant”, I cringed in disgust.
Glad to see I’m not the only one unwilling to settle to the role of an add.
Somethings wrong with that. Something’s really wrong with it. Especially when, at the same time, getting paired with more than one thief on your team in ranked is a death sentence.
As a ranger, if a thief is:
> not further from you than 800 range
> hitting you up close
and you are
>not running sword/signet of stone and are marauder
Something is wrong, and it isnt the thief.
Sounds like someone had a bad time while playing Thief.
I think that’s most people playing thief right now in PvP, it feels like it’s in a really bad spot with it’s only saving grace being mobility.
This and the fact that we still get some errant whiners complaining that thieves are too hard to hit, and mobility thus needs to be nerfed.
I love how when farmers complain about people ruining their farm, they always end up on the losing side and get their profit vehicles nerfed.
Maybe they should stop whining and farm in silence.
An OP class is a class that, in most general combat situations, outperforms the other classes by a reasonable margin.
So far I do not think we have classes like that.
we have the majority of classes that do well across the board, and then a couple that just dont do much of anything.
Keep it like this Anet, nerfing all because some noobs that complain for everything . . . keep it like that and you will get only The Sims players in your game.
I use to buy at least 800 gems at month to support Anet . . . i will not support a game that encourage noob players to do rule the game.
It’s okay, I’ll buy 800 gems a month to support Anet for realizing that perma-blind is silly.
There seems to be confusion over what a “draw” is.
When dueling certain elementalist builds on my warr, fights sometimes go on so long that we both agree to stop fighting.
that is a draw.
someone actively retreating from you is saying “I admit defeat, but not giving you a bag.”
Thieves do it all the time.
Actively requesting that Warriors should not be able to retreat so rapidly from a fight, with the fact that they are perpetually visible and that their WVW performance outside of silly roaming 1v1s will suffer immensely, is actually quite selfish to request now that I think about it. Especially with the majority of their resistance to snares and cc coming from the food they eat and runes they use which are non inherent features to the class.
That + only guardians have an abysmally low chance of catching = why is this a thing?
It isnt about “distance they can cover is broken”. It is “distance they can cover is incredibly effective in this one situation where I am playing the game 1v1 even though the map is geared for large scale fights, and because of that I cannot kill them.”
GS escapes will rarely work in 1v2s, 1vX, PVP, or any other type of battle scenario where there is more attention to cc.

Boy don’t we all miss the days when thieves could fight a zerg single handedly?
I mean… all these nerfs are so unjustified.
I spoke about this already but what made you think that posting a video where the first few targeted players did absolutely nothing but keep running as they were getting damaged proved that thieves deserved to be nerfed into what feels like uselessness?
being able to 1vx when your opponents are like that is balance.
We still don’t know thief elite spec so..
we still don’t know if the new thief elite spec brings some balance for as aswell and new mechanic to play with
thief is right now uncompleted imoyeah.. if I have to buy an expansion to have a fair game experience then f*** that, that’s just straight up p2w
This.
It’s gonna be a bad time if we have to pay just to get thieves balanced, instead of merely option addition.
I’m sufficiently amused by how Anet’s resolution to the problem of “stealth has no counterplay” was to introduce a skill that shuts down stealth, but has no counterplay.
Stop defending it because you dont want it to get nerfed.
I’d just like to direct attention to this statement and ask why anyone would defend something if not for that exact reason.
Boy don’t we all miss the days when thieves could fight a zerg single handedly?
I mean… all these nerfs are so unjustified.
A zerg that lets a thief pick off so many people like that without focusing him should be eaten singlehandedly.
The problem is not that there is too much reveal, the problem is we have no decent general purpose solution to conquest and roaming that does not make heavy use of stealth. Stealth is our damage mitigation, our condi cleanse, and our burst at the same time. In that respect, it -can- be called a class mechanic, because our class depends on it for many aspects of general combat.
Giving other classes means to break all of that at once is a kitten shame, sure, but the bigger shame is that we don’t have a decent alternative.
Or, more simply put:
“Experts at stealth and surprise-
Thieves practice an agile, acrobatic fighting style, which can make them very hard to hit."
^ Is a lie.

LMAO OP! Excellent stuff.
Once there was a guy who ran past me without rezzing to a chest, and then left. A later found the same guy dead. I rezzed him to 90% and walked away. lol
Rofl.
I love this.
Since there are very few thieves looking objectively at this thread, I’ll speak up.
Right now, maintaining stealth on blocked attacks is okay.
Once Resilience of shadows and the other thief buffs drop, whiffing or getting a backstab blocked should count as an attack and cause reveal, to counter the damage reduction in stealth.
Don’t be silly. We’re squishy as hell, but once we’re not squishy we need to put some risk somewhere.
There’s no such thing as tons of get out of jail free cards. we have two on demand ports max per weapon set, iirc, and only one of them is a stun break. Initiative is in a comfortable range for me, if that needs to be nerfed or buffed remains to be seen.
But as far as adding reveal to whiffed attacks? We can take that hit with the new changes.
Double revenant.
Anything else is a lie.
I sincerely hope all of the filler words in that interview were not due to anticipating impending disappointment, but more from the attempts of trying to keep a straight face because of its upcoming rerelease.
wishful thinking, I know, but…
To be honest I don’t think the nerfs are unwarranted. A 6/5/0/0/3 Zerk GS Warrior is still going to have personal DPS through the roof in PvE right? You’ll just have to play a bit harder to keep it at an untamed level. I think the changes to SoR will have more of an impact.
For PvP though, Arcing Slice is looking like it will have a taste of what Eviscerate is able to do if it nails someone. A nearly 6k crit on foes with less than 50% health with no might – definitely seems like something you’d want to dodge.
I can almost hear the qq on the wind…
If someone is trying to help you, that should be enough.
You should not attempt to weigh their contribution on a scale and compare it to your own.
If someone is being a dumbkitten and is running around doing nothing, you do not need a dps calculator to establish that.
Being unable to tell when some people are wearing zerker and when they are not should speak a couple of chapters about the significance of that information in the first place.

CONCLUSION : PLEASE UPGRADE THE EVENTS IN FROSTGORGE SOUND THAT REQUIRES MORE TRINITY (NOT MEANING HOLY TRINITY)SO THE PLAYERS WILL DO OTHER THINGS OTHER THAN “CHOO CHEE” ZERGING LIKE A “CHOO CHEE” IDIOTS!
I just play for a few minutes ago and try to do the events that require to knock champion Drake down. I just want to try something so I decide to go into downing state. No one rez me. All they do are nothing but attacking. And it’s not only occur to me, other people who are down in any champion events are rarely being rez. So I think it’s time to upgrade the events in Frostgorge sound so that that place will not become the farming area. People(who in Frostgorge sound) are selfish. (exclude Jormag event.
