I strongly prefer harp playing to PVP content.

I am afraid of most sharks in Gw2 due to a phobia, and because of that avoid the orrian ocean, -especially- where the megalodon spawns. I’ve been forcing myself to deal with them to overcome this.

I hated Turret engie until I stopped playing war for a bit, swapped to thief, and learned that you can harass them very easily.

Now they have my condolences every time a necro or a cluster bomb thief catches their scent.

I’m reluctant to call anything OP now. Whatever seems insurmountable for one playstyle is likely laughably pushover for another.

And that’s okay. cant be good at everything.

Why funny? These people clearly have a passion for the game or they wouldn’t even bother. I think it’s kind of sad… they want the game to go in a good direction and may even want to give anet money, which is why they stick around despite what are arguably terrible changes.

But that is just the thing. They aren’t sticking around. They are coming back as soon as there is a new big thing to hate. When there are no new things to hate on they are very quiet and you more or less never see them post anything at all. But as soon as something controversial turns up they start posting like mad.

Threads like these give players who quit a feeling of solidarity and a platform to voice their concerns which they feel are not being acknowledged.

All fine and good, except more than a few basically agree they left and aren’t coming back, so . . . why bother caring about solidarity or their concerns? They’ve admittedly already left and uninstalled. It’s not about whether or not they have a point, it’s about whether or not they show up just to stir up the pot for their own amusement.

dont worry about them.

There are people with genuine concerns, and then there are trolls that are desperate to feel right about something, so they come back to flaunt supposed correctness when it does absolutely nothing to help the situation, and would only expedite the situation if people listened to them in the first place.

Being right does not make your opinion not worthless. just saying.

Because “Anet are money hungry, dont buy from them” would not make them any less money hungry if people bought less.

Berserker Meta Discussion

Changing the stat combination for zerker won’t spread power across the board. The people playing zerker want the fastest kills at the expense of [insert thing to give up here]. Any stat armor that accomplishes this most efficiently will be the most popular.

Before this becomes 10 pages, I’d like to note that trying to force people skilled enough at the game to not require passive defense to move slower will not be good for anyone. Youll just kitten off the people you’re making slower and force them to make a new meta that is as close to the original as possible.

The game was intended to be played actively. Zerker is prime gear for that. Leave it alone.

Full Zerkers ONLY!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Azure The Heartless.3261

Azure The Heartless.3261

1. A new player likes a build and posts it on the forums. Zerker elitists try to force that player into playing their build.

2. I make a listing in LFG with “All Welcome!” as the title. Zerker player joins and attempts to kick a non-zerk player.

3. Zerker elitists calling someone out in map chat because they like having a set build more than the meta.

All three of these have happened. THAT is the issue.

This is the specific selection of “elitists” that need to be addressed. That being said, there are people that benefit from the meta.

Chalk these up to toxicity and specify that these players alone are the issue whenever talking about “full zerk only for dungeons” or the “meta”, cause these players are not even the majority in those groups. . Full Zerk Build works in organized group or specific dungeon run only. Other than that it is a matter of personal preference. You cant bomb the meta because some pigheaded jerks think “meta” is synonymous with “omnipotent”. That’s why the PVP section is a mess.

More blame lies with the individuals that perpetuate the above quoted mentalities, than with the people who have decided that, due to their experience with a dungeon or event, there is no need for anything but zerker.

There’s a difference between a knight that doesnt carry a shield because it makes him look cooler and a knight that doesnt carry a shield because he doesnt need one. And no matter how hard or convoluted you make a dungeon, eventually someone will do a perfect run and the meta will surface again for people who only want the shiny.

Azure The Heartless.3261

For me this change is unncessary. If anything it makes my gameplay soon worse. There’s a lot of (minor but important) things I like about current tp, and Anet is removed 90% of it. It’s clear from the screenshots alone, that certain things will be much harder to reach in the future.

The new Sell/Buy huge square buttons for instance. Bad bad bad. Sorrie, it may be good for new players but it isn’t for vets. In a split second, i can now without a doubt go from buy listing, sell listing, selling and back again. With new box, misclicking is more warranted if you want to speedclear some actions. And if that happens you gonna have to drag your mouse all to the left and right again to fix it to go to right window. This may sound as crying, but It just baffles me that something that was ‘efficient to use’ will now be ‘less efficient to use’. Taking a step back is never good, and this is going there. You should give player the option to use old trading post, or something similar. I hate the huge new sell/buy tabs.

Trade post is something, i’d like to go tru as fast as possible. New trade post UI will prevent that.

Yes, this is all very logical.

The developers make me not want to even continue playing when things like this happen.

Thief doing too much burst from stealth? Okay, lets nerf them. Oh, lets also give the same class that was hurt by the burst the most the very same playstyle.

Thief evading too much? Okay, lets nerf them. Oh, let’s also give a heavy armor tier the same exact playstyle.

Thief stealth has no counterplay? Okay, lets give classes uncounterable ways of revealing them for stupid amounts of time.

Yes, it’s pay to skin. That’s part of how they fund the servers to keep the game running.

You can grind to get anything you want with enough effort though, because gold can be traded for gems.

The fact that you have the opportunity to gain what you want through just playing the game, and are sore about the fact that cosmetic items that have no real bearing on the game and player skill level cannot be obtained extremely quickly without paying is a very shallow and selfish viewpoint, if I can be that frank with you.

Let them ‘cash grab’. if they were offering an easy way for paying players to win against people that put effort into learning game functionality, then this would be an issue. Shinies are not that serious.

While I think personally that the NPE is as much an insult to gamer intelligence as it is a hindrance to fluid progression for new players, I actually havent heard many complaints from brand new players about the experience, and get asked more questions about skills and traits from newer players.

The majority of people that seem to be complaining are players that were here when it wasn’t so gated, and the npe doesnt target them.
GW2 is still an excellent game, and people that didn’t know how it was initially seem to be dealing with it fine.

Elementalists seem pretty broken to me

in Elementalist

Posted by: Azure The Heartless.3261

Azure The Heartless.3261

First of all maybe it is just me and my personal experiences may come down to me being a medicore player.

The Topic:

From what i can see Ele’s are the top profession of any gametype.

In PvE they offer the biggest DPS in the game + soft and hard cc, amazing support lots of fields and lots of finishers. I mean its pretty hard to make an argument for filling the slots with anything non ele when you have a guard already.

In PvP the Celestial varriant can beat about any other class in 1v1 and shrug of conditions as well as direct damage while dealing great damage themselves. Zerker with focus offer allmost no counterplay because all the spells are instant casts with instant procs from fire/air sigill. Even then they get all of that from their weapons and can take all the defensive utility they want.

In WvW they are the main source of Damage and can lay waste to entire Zergs. As well as sustain their own with waterfields and harrass the enemy with static fields. They also make excelent roamers and scouts.

I get that elementalists are supposed to be able to do many things but right now they seem to be the best at everything.

Have you played one? The ele’s have versatility, sure, but the effectiveness of that versatility is directly dependent on how squishy they are. They do get to do many things as a core feature of their class, but the other classes that have a focus on specific kinds of playstyles outperform the ele in their respective aspects.

For example, an ele has control, but not comparable to a warriors.

An ele has burst, but not comparable to a thief, Not to mention that attunements microbalance their effectiveness even further.

Diving goggles level gated?

I remember the first time I saw Diving Goggles, conveniently placed on the precipice of a ledge above some water.

After the initial shock wore off, I stood staring down at them, my mind racing to comprehend their meaning, Literally a couple of possibilities swirled around my tiny brain but it was too much. Exhausted, I logged off.

I went for a walk just to clear my mind. The image of those goggles haunted me as I walked along the path, teasing me with their impenetrable puzzle. I saw the moon and the stars, and it dawned on me. Just like the endless mysteries of the universe, I was not meant to understand. In another life, in another time – maybe.

I had looked upon those goggles on that ledge like a mouse looks upon Michaelangelo’s David. They were simply too huge to comprehend, to hold their full meaning in my head would be like holding the sea in a teacup.

Sometimes I still dream about them, and the ledge. The water below rushes up to meet me, I understand a little bit more – but then I wake up, and the dream, like the answers, fade away.

Azure The Heartless.3261

I don’t get why this had to get to 13 pages.

There are players that have done dungeons hundreds of times, and players that enjoy high risk, high reward, low time playthroughs.

There are players that have not done dungeons before, and players that enjoy high defense, but less quick parties.

There are foulmouthed individuals from both groups that want to impose their playstyle on anyone not matching it. The elitists are not the meta, and the people that demand to be carried are not the majority of those who do not want to play the meta.

They’re in a group called “jerks/kittens” and they dont have a required armor set.

you cannot ascribe negativity to an armor set. I’ve played knight/soldier and full zerker, and have played with stellar groups from both spectrums. They’re different flavors of parties with the same (Core) purpose, but different means of attaining said purpose, and the LFG tool helps you find whichever flavor of player you prefer.

You shouldnt be looking into purchasing armor too seriously until you are level 80.

Until that point, most armor dropped from mobs that fit you will suffice, and if you go too long without finding a specific armor piece from a mob, you can buy it on the Trading post.

Armor, trinket, and ring buying only becomes a chore when you start getting into Exotic, Ascended. until then anything works.

Enjoy the ride. you don’t have to worry about gear until you hit max level. if you want to pay favor to a specific stat on your way, take a look at the

After taking a look at Arche[redacted], Final[Redacted], and some other MMOs that have graced the scene, I always find myself drawn back here, even though there’s nothing significant to do that I haven’t done already (That also I want to do/ can find the party to do) because:

The art is gorgeous.

The music is gorge-ahem

The community in pve generally is sweet and kind (outside of dungeons/farms).

The PVP community is toxic but still accepting enough of valid beatdowns, unlike other places where people refuse to accept they lost much more often

The customer service ISNT !#@$% HUBRIS BROKEN

They deliver on content promises within a year (unlike another game when a promise has gone undelivered for longer even though it was promised 11 months ago.)
Instrument system is nice. (Violin would be neat.)

I’m bored, but its still entertaining to hang around here. Just wanted to note that for a dev/whoever would like to read. Gw2 isnt deep enough to keep me completely enthralled, but I can go do things without worrying about losing out on events running without me and then jump into WVW and join a train/TS like I haven’t missed a beat.

Not being completely enthralled is a good thing for me. In the terms of being a good, even a great game, GW2 hits the mark completely as far as I’m concerned, although I am not entirely sure why.

I think it should be said that “Meta” is not synonymous with “player toxicity.” It may seem that way, but it isnt.

Meta is the widely agreed upon “most efficient way to play the game” but nobody is holding you to that and should not be looking down on you if you decide to explore the less seen builds.

It just so happens that the toxic elitists like to win, so you will find them often using cookie cutter builds because they leave less room for error, but they are NOT the meta population.

Map Completion isn't worth it...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Azure The Heartless.3261

Azure The Heartless.3261

You know, all these ideas don’t matter much, simply because if they were implemented, three months from now someone would start a thread about how these rewards are not enough for the drag that is map completion and there should be more.

Slippery slope fallacy is slippery slope.

But that’s how it works. It was like that with dungeon rewards, champion loot, everything. The rewards at any given time seem to be not enough.

You cannot assume that “we will always need more” is a reasonable justification for not doing something with the current idea, even if you perceive that as always being the case. We are not talking about what we might need three months from now. The current discussion is that map completion rewards seem to be lacking for some, and whether people should be rewarded more for completing map exploration (including K hearts) .

Legendaries would be a good motivation, if the precursors dropped more/werent so stupid hard to get.

Suggestion: Add a 100 Gem option for people who like trading in small increments

Ideal suggestion: Put it back to how it was.

sarcasm detector off
I think arenanet is enough intelligent to know that the player want back the old system.

Obviously not, seeing as how they changed it in the first place and are asking “how can we fix it?”

so you think arenanet is stupid?

…. No?
I’m saying exactly what I mentioned. They determined there was a problem in a system that frankly wasn’t broken, and broke it trying to “fix” it. If they had believe the system was potent enough as it was, they would not have changed it in the first place.

I’m seeing some info about tickets coming in that are to the tune of “cant use gem store halllp” which makes sense somewhat, though.

I beat players with ascended armor in WVW with my meager Exotics.

When I suddenly have the materials I need as a result of playing the game, I will put them into ascended armor as a material sink.

Not needed. Don’t care~

Protip: Forcing yourself to not have fun in a game so you can get the best X in the game by your perception is not a grind. It’s you sucking the fun out of your life.

Quit it. Because when you suck the fun out of your life and have your brand new shiny as a result of churning through all the content, then you suck the fun out of everyone elses life by complaining that there’s nothing to do.

dueling

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Azure The Heartless.3261

They’re not doing it so that they can keep all pvp and those that are competitively inclined in the mists. There is dueling there, that is focused on skill. If you want to use your equips, there is dueling in obsidian sanctum/borderlands.

Lots of PVE players like their world nice and cooperative. Anet doesnt need to add dueling options to that just because other mmos have it.

thing is we DON’T have dueling options in Spvp nor in WvW. We have nice people paying 2000 gems a month to keep an arena up and we have people that decided upon a location in WvW, but there’s no game mechanic, meaning that anyone is free to march in and ruin the fun for others.

It’s not 2000 gems; iirc, its 400 gems currently. 5 bucks a month to keep an arena open.

Just for your info.

And while you are right, people are free to ruin the fun for others, open world dueling would ruin the fun for people that log in simply for pve.

RIght now, competitive player v player play is isolated from those who do not explicitly seek it out. That’s better than the alternative.

Now, if Anet wants to implement an isolated place in the mists where duel requests are allowed, im all for it; but it’s best to leave the open world exactly how it is to save the majority of people who are not interested in pvp at all from having to deal with it and the mentality it draws, whether they be directly exposed to it via PM or taunts or exposed to it indirectly via some braggart on map chat.

Also, for proponents, keep in mind that requesting the majority of people here take active steps to ignore a feature that is desired by a minority (That are not satisfied with the mists) is not easier than leaving the already nonexistent feature out. You should be convincing the players that actively do not want it that they somehow need or would otherwise benefit from something they feel negatively about. Just the suggestion that “it probably wouldnt bug them” is not enough. The most they can get out of it is nothing, and they stand to lose enjoyment of the game.

Are all builds viable in PvE?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Azure The Heartless.3261

Viable yes, optimal no.

Please understand[u] that the pressure to play the meta comes only from the very small fraction of dungeon speedrunners that cannot adapt to dps dips and thus need everyone to run the most efficient build to ensure group survival.

These people make up an infinitesimally small portion of the game compared to its whole, so you should play what you want and Then find people who feel similarly to you about gearing instead of putting the cart before the horse and basing your gear choices on what someone tells you is necessary.

Eventually you can even pick up gear sets if you need to run with these people in a pinch, but this should not be priority.

Have fun. We’re all too kittened off as it is.

Why nerf when you can just apply condibomb before 25%?

Vamp rune mist proc locks you out of all skills and leaves a visible vapor trail. you cant cleanse when you’re in it, and if a user has heal off cooldown you can time interrupts for the moment they peel out of it.

Why this deserves a hard nerf I dont know.

Why Anet doesnt listen to you

in PvP

Azure The Heartless.3261

You know, people come into the forums all the time saying Arenanet knows best and that people should just let them do their job, while conveniently forgetting that there is a board of developers paid to at the very least ensure that the facets of the classes are enjoyable.

They’re paid to do this.

If a developer can, after weeks of extensive polishing, allow, say, DH to ship without thinking that perhaps a player will just stack all of their traps and taking steps to make sure that a person that does that is not rewarded with a free kill for doing so on a mode where players have to move on specific paths to specific locations, and then leave that strategy live for a couple of weeks, then something is wrong.

They should be notified. Of course, people are going to be offended. People are going to be angry, because they come home from a busy day expecting to have some enjoyment and end up being on the receiving end of untelegraphed bombs. But someone should come to the forums and say “this sucks, and this is why”, and people should allow them to do that. Otherwise it’ll just be left as is.

We have no choice but to let the developers do their job. In fact, we cannot even begin to make them change the game, they have to take up that action on their own.

All we can do is whine about x and y and hope they listen, or quit. If they don’t feel like listening, that’s fine. At least we tried.

"Trading 2.0"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Azure The Heartless.3261

Azure The Heartless.3261

since the trading post is web based, most of what you see in there is mostly controlled with javascript and a few HTML Requests here and there. it really isnt that hard to do as you think it is.

As a developer, you should know that assuming a system is simple from the UI and platform alone is silly.

They swapped out the core browser engine and then built the newer TP on top of it.
This, combined with conscientious decision to rebuild the actual post with performance in mind, is much more extensive a task than “javascript and a few HTML requests here and there.”

Then you have testing, reworks, bug fixes. since they built on a new core there were probably modules of their old coding that didn’t work as is.

Take this for instance:

" We were able to gain huge performance improvements by updating the game client so that the embedded browser could access things the game already knows about. There’s no reason we should have to download an icon for an in-game item from the Trading Post servers; it’s already in the game files."

We have no knowledge about how modular this system was initially. Making a change could be easy if the system initially took the fact that the location of these images might change to a local request in the future. If it didn’t, making it so becomes an incredibly tedious project.

If they used portions of their original system at all.

You cannot trivialize that. It could easily take as long as it did. Assuming otherwise would be unrealistic.

No. If you get one pushed your bad. Yah all you have to do now is reset the fight and GG you beat a warrior.

Still doesn’t explain my question.

cooldowns.

If his utilities were used to stay alive and he exhausted them, a reset would render him a sitting duck.

Thieves can pretty much hard reset fights by pulling away as soon as adrene is full. once it’s insta-decayed, pop back in while utils are on cooldown and warrior is easy bag.

Isn’t devaluation the risk you take investing in something? Why should anyone be entitled to see items grow in value?

thwip

Someone hit a bullseye.

Once you acquire items for future investment, you risk devaluation. Especially if they are seasonal and you hold it for the same season to roll around again.

If you’re complaining about this, then you just suffered a common loss associated with investment.

If you’re complaining because you lost points in “special snowflake” That’s a you problem.

Are all builds viable in PvE?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Azure The Heartless.3261

Azure The Heartless.3261

I been using clerics for uh…2 years on my ele. I try to play a ‘healer’. Suffice to say, getting tags for kills/events is extremely difficult; it’s ineffecient, lowest dps ever, often times frustrating, and I don’t really heal all that well…it is quite possibly the very worst set up in game. My thief on the other hand is full serkers and I never have any issues at all, heck my survivability is just about the same yet I can dish out up to 32k on a single button press lol. Is all builds viable in PvE? Yes, but the meta builds will out perform the ‘bad’ ones by a MASSIVE margin. I had hoped HoT would open it up a bit but that sadly does not look like the case; serker is still king.

W/e. Do not use clerics in PvE…you will get yelled at, called foul names, and or get lots of group kicks if people find out. People around here really hate cleric gear players, that’s for sure lol. I need monk runes too but no one wants me around. Sigh.

I wouldnt mind a cleric player if you’re like, willing to be 90% devoted to getting the downed people up and drop boons like crazy.

There’s people that can work with non dps builds, they’re just not the majority.

The silence is taking a long time. I think there’s only one way to go. I would expect to see a message like this very soon:

“Greetings fellow inhabitants of Tyria,

Earlier this week we opened pre-orders for our exciting new expansion, Heart of Thorns. We are really excited about this expansion – not only does it have the new Elite classes, only a few of which have been fully revealed so far, but it also introduces a whole new world for you to explore. We have many more teasers and spoilers planned over the next few weeks that will let you share our excitement about the expansion.

That said, we here at Anet have been aware of the voice of the community on the pricing or content of the expansion packs we’ve offered. We feel that the prices we listed are appropriate for the content we are releasing, and certainly comparable to the other releases we and other gaming companies are producing these days. We have a fantastic user base, and many of you have been as hyped as us for the expansion. Some of you have been with us from the original Guild Wars, including even some of our beta testers of that game. You veterans form the core of our userbase, and are are often the most vocal supporters for us. Or, in this case, vocal in your discontent. We do want to have you continue your journey with us through Tyria, after all, we have dragons and lore you haven’t even seen yet (are you there, “Bubbles”?).

After a great deal of internal conversation, we’re making the following change to all expansion packs: All packs will now include 800 gems, which is the current cost of a character slot in the game. Are you one of our players who has a maxed character in every slot? You can use these gems to buy yourself a new spot to roll that exciting new Revenant. Are you a newer player and still have open slots? Use these in our Gem Store to buy many quality of life and appearance items – we’re sure you’ll find something you’ll like! For our user base who want to buy the Ultimate Edition, you’ll now get these gems in addition to the ones you already are receiving as part of the package. We expect you to be the snappiest dressed Revenants in Maguuma!

Once again, thank you for your passion around our world. We are on a shared journey and look forward to you joining us in the newest chapter, Heart of Thorns!"

…Can ANet hire you? Seriously, that is the most balanced, mature response I think I’ll ever see to this incident.

I am having a very hard time believing that “entertaining cows” was the proper solution for players that found “pick up food, give to cow” confusing.

As regards the more important level gating, revamped introduction of the downed state, and the other changes made to enhance the feeling of progression, I’m incredibly surprised that the testing revealed so many aspects of the game that were confusing for new players.

Hopefully, once this is settled, it will provide ample incentive for alt creation, or at least not make it more tedious for players looking to entertain themselves while waiting for level 80 content.
