I understand warriors and theives complaints, but instead or asking for nerfs, why not ask for buffs to your class instead? You must love this class, therefore you must know what it needs best.

Tried that.

Didnt work.

You know what does work?

Asking for other classes to be nerfed when they’re clearly op.

Oh, this was another “(no) expansion” thread. I was hoping it was an actual call to be civil. =P

Oh well, back to reading anti-zerk/pro-mount threads.

Civility beyond this point is an impossibility. The devs keep the obvious trolls to a minimum and everyone else is very articulate, even over what I’d personally consider small matters.

Balance and fun makes an e-sport, not how many times you throw around the buzzword ‘e-sport’ and promote the hell out of it in and out of game. Right now we don’t have balance or fun.

Because League of Legends is such a shining example of a balanced game right?

There’s op specs that arise from time to time because they’re always adding new heroes, but at least they deal with them reasonably quickly.

So for the most part yes. It’s a solid example for GW2 to look to.

The moment a class has a significant and clear advantage over most other classes in a 1v1 setting, it is overpowered.

No one class should be able to dominate several other classes in a game that values balance , in the majority of common settings.

Whether they are random or not, Precursors are not worth any of the time and money required to actively pursue them. None of those actions makes the wielder special. or are hallmarks of the user’s dedication, skill, or overall competence, so it may as well be “some accounts are lucky.”

Full Zerkers ONLY!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Azure The Heartless.3261

TLDR: I want dungeons where the most optimal route is a mix of builds, not optimized purely for group DPS. This will invlove different enemy mechanics as well as different dungeon mechanics as a whole.

You’re asking a difficult thing.

Once people complete the dungeon enough to know where everything happens, the only reason to go back that isnt to help someone who hasnt completed it/nostalgia is for the reward. At that point, you are not playing for the entertainment so much as you are playing for the reward, and the less time you can spend churning through repeat content, the better.

Forcing people to do gated content that they’ve already done numerous times is more annoying than you might be aware of, which could easily lead to more “LFZerkletsgetthisoverwith” parties that know what needs to be done to finish that dungeon as fast as possible.

If it bleeds, you can kill it. If you can kill it, hitting it harder means it dies faster.
In a game centered around “Kill this get reward lol”, People that are already experienced arent going to willingly go slower than they need to.

and again, this “killitfast” only works in specific dungeon groups.

Unless, like…your suggestion is making a dungeon nothing but a jumping puzzle. because if it has even -One- thing you need to kill in it…

Or you put in some kind of Spectral Agony that is specifically made to deter zerkers, at which point you’re just making a change to scold the meta for doing what it should be.

So you want to take away the core mechanic of a class with the lowest defense and hp pool in the game because they don’t sit there and die like good little players, even though all they’re good for at the moment -is- ganking because of the new damage balancing?

Forest of Niflhel kill stealing

in PvP

Posted by: Azure The Heartless.3261

Azure The Heartless.3261

Personally, I’m OK with how boss stealing works.

Just because a creature has spawned doesn’t mean you need to kill it. In fact, in a lot of high level games, you’ll see the creatures up for long amount of time without being attempted. Players understand the value of a kill, but they also appreciate the risk associated with the attempt.

Before you attempt a creature, you should ask yourself the following questions:

  • Where is the enemy team?
    • Talk with your team, or at the very least try to get a rough approximation of enemy player location by reading the mini-map. Also try to be cognizant of enemy respawn timers, as players will often times push to far point off of a respawn, setting themselves up for a perfect boss steal opportunity. On the flip side, watch the NPC mini-map icons for movement – if you see it move at all you know that the enemy team is attempting a kill.
  • Do I have the ability to safely secure this boss kill?
    • Often times you’ll see players with tanky builds or condition-based builds attempting to take creatures by themselves. There’s a good chance that if a burst spec’d enemy player comes across you while you’re fighting an NPC, they’re going to steal the kill.

At the end of the day, it really comes down to map awareness and risk assessment.

One thief can steal every boss waiting around in stealth. One hits the boss, he got it.. and he’s gone…yeah tactical play my kitten .

which is why you have a scout for thieves. you can see them coming if you monitor both avenues leading to chief/svanir while team is doing killing.

Also if you don’t have a visual on a stealth prof like engi Mesmer thief etc. Or know they’re on respawn, then you kitten the risk, if it’s too high then don’t take the boss.

This. most, if not all of the stealth profs are too squishy to take the boss, and rely on you – outright ignoring- them until you’ve done all the work.

Think about it this way:

would you still do it for the loot if those AFKers were not there?

you didn’t do it to help them, you did it so you could get the chest yourself.

some people are jerks and just want to benefit from what they didn’t work for. Other people are late to the party but work hard, and some people have emergencies. some people are probably too weak to stand in damage zone of the boss without wiping.

The loot is there to encourage as many people as possible to at least assist you in some way. punishing people who could not be there for the start or most of the duration will lead people to pass it outright, and you might need them.

Don’t worry about who’s who. Do it for you. Let the jerks deal with being jerks.

Stealth in MMO's will always be overpowered

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Azure The Heartless.3261

Azure The Heartless.3261

Stealth is = but less offensively viable than complete invulnerability, allows you to fight on you’re terms, has no immediate counter skill (no ability to keep someone from stealthing or to reveal stealth players) thus making it one of those abilities thats always safe to use. And as an added bonus- gives you time to think about you’re next move (clockless chess). This is why stealth/invisibility as a mechanic will always be overpowered.

A couple of things.

1) You will need to explain on what terms stealth is “widely accepted as not being see[n] anymore.”

2.) Stealth is not clockless chess in GW2. As was stated above, the traits that favor stealth as a mechanic all sacrifice damage output in exchange for longer duration. Most stealths last less than three seconds unassisted, with the minor outlier having an interruptible cast time and Shadow Refuge essentially marking a wide circle with “here is where the thief is hiding.”

3.) It is not equal to invulnerability in any respect, because stealthed players can be downed, killed, have condis applied, and take damage like regular players.

4.) [Sic em] and [Utility Goggles] are direct counters to stealth. Other less noticible counterplay include using illusionary wave, PBS, or another knockback skill to cripple Shadow Refuge stealth due to the fact that projectiles track if initiated before the target lock is lost.

5.) Stealth is not always safe to use. Feathers cause an effect that show a thief is in the area, as do blinding powder and SR. Hide in shadows does not, but it has a cast time.

6.) Thieves are all about positioning and using circumstance/terrain and strategy to down players. That is an inherent feature of their class, not a symptom of bad design. They cannot facetank much of anything, less so if they are not Shadow Arts Specced. They have no invulns, no blocks. Everything they have as active defense borders on stealth or evades (That cost them initiative, which they also need to attack).

IMO, I don’t think its overpowered at all. I play both a warrior and a thief, and going from a person that only played warrior into thief gave me a newfound respect for all the junk thieves have to put up with to be more than a nuisance, especially against tanky warriors.

Some of my suggestions

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Azure The Heartless.3261

Azure The Heartless.3261

Anet, I’m not an employee or a dev or anything more than a player, but given the current state of the game and living world content progress, I am suggesting the following be implemented:

End game raid content. There are lots of avenues to do this, at the moment:

New Fractals of the Mist. (GW1 Has an expansive history, use more of it! Agony resistance should probably have a rework, special to sporadic or specific fractals, but if not that’s fine.) *Hell, if you fancy, include some of the old GW2 history in the fractals. Reanimate nightmare court. Drop marionette again. Toss Orr back above the waves. Drop SAB in. Toss in Mad King, if he isn’t coming back in october. Include token rewards for the content so players can grind them for gear.

Of course, you also have Dhuum, the Mursaat, the forming of the jade sea, and -many- other features to play around with here. Gw1 lore is -laden- with ideas.

New World Bosses (Wurm was a nice example of what the game could use more of. Tequatl was a nice drop. for the effort put in, they do not drop the correct tier of rewards. Implement more bosses that require organization like wurm, but make the drops worth the challenge.

Greatly improved rewards for Existing world bosses, tied to scale up in difficulty for ‘stackable’ world bosses. (Shatterer now can drop -ascendeds-, but stacking his right claw is no longer possible. Behemoth dtops Rares regularly, but players cannot stand in front of him when his portals go up. If these events fail, all players close to the boss get wiped.)

New Dungeons. Tyria is huge, we can handle going out of our way to the far reaches for some new dungeons/tokens/sets with usable stats. Examine the metrics for underplayed dungeons, find out why they are underplayed, and offer larger rewards for these dungeons. coughhonorofthewavescough.

Eliminate boss stacking. (you did it with spider queen, love to see it with shatterer.)

Every once in a while, Rework the WVW maps. Terrain changes on Server vs Server worlds will increase replay value, require re-familiarization with the map, and add another layer of planning to commanders that may be just going through the motions. just leave them long enough to not frustrate commanders with the changes.
They dont even have to be complete reworks. A little touch up to lions arch and some random battlescarring made a huge difference; carry that into WVW.

PVP Maps. Additions to the current map roulette for PVP would be beneficial for the PVP community. Regarding Skyhammer, either remove it, or alter the breakable pane behavior and greatly increase skyhammer cooldown, to prevent domination of the map by a single necro or ranger.

[Something I want personally]

violin and music contests please

Only is probably a bad word to use, because the above entails a lot of work.
there needs to be player retention though; nothing incredibly ‘grindy’, but still holding difficulty. The time limit imposed on the current world bosses is a nice touch.

All of this can be included, slowly, with the living story, if prepared alongside it or during its intermission. Wurm is a prime example of how it could be perfectly handled.

Lmfao rewinding down state?

Here we go

As the F-Skills are locked in downstate I don`t think you can rewind from there, as it is a manual trigger.
there might be a trait, though…

Otherwise it`s a good tactical device, similiar to the death shroud.

It’s not a manual trigger!

When you use Continuum Split .. When this duration is over, they’ll revert back to the location where the skill was first activated.

If that skill continues to be active on down, we’re talking about negating down state.

Edit:

“Here’s where things get fun. Shifting back to the original timeline reverts the chronomancer’s health, endurance, and all cooldowns (yes, even the elite skill)”

Minis are optional items that are often designed to be silly.

I don’t see how someone having one out that happens to mess with the mood of the setting is as weighty an issue as having the player character, which is mandatory, react poorly to the mood of the setting.

I understand the animations need to be fixed, but thats a reallllly huge leap to try to make your point.

No it’s not. It’s exactly the same thing. Whether it’s the silly minis ruining the immersion or a stretch or some tree branch being in the wrong spot. It’s the same thing. The player character did not react poorly to anything, it (just like Kasmeer and other npcs were) was playing out an idle animation while being idle. In a scripted cutscene. That you watch once, maybe twice. Then you are done. Not bothered by it anymore. But you are standing idle elsewhere more often than being in that one particular godkitten ed kittening cutscene.

But if the mini aggravates you, you can turn it off. That’s the difference I’m pointing at.

Then Anet should force minis to be disabled, since they want to be authoritarian about the whole issue of their cinematics. God forbid their “precious” cutscenes be ruined by immersion!

I just find it amateurish that they would remove them without even having a fix planned, especially since it was never game-breaking.

But… the player can do it if it breaks immersion for them.

Why would they force minis to be disabled if the player can do it themselves?

Granted, they should just put it back.

Then, the community of the game forms the consensus that you can’t, in fact, play any way you like, because if you play certain builds, you are a de facto noob.

Yep.

Cant get over Rapid fire being good.
Cant get over stealth.
Cant get over HS.
Cant get over Elementalist heals.
Cant get over Turret engie.
Cant get over perma fear.
Cant get over mediguard.
Cant get over PU mesmer.

Just take note that what you have mentioned here applies to every class, and Anet is listening to the qq for some classes but not others.

That is my only issue with balance for this game. Either you tell everyone or nobody to suck it up. Ranger does not deserve obscure borderline useless play, and neither does anyone else. the community has gotten the idea that some classes should be generally more free kill than others though across the board, due to the nature of their playstyle. .

Yep. It’s a good game, what we have currently is well built, and as a “buy once, play forever” model it’s pretty akin to a stand-alone game. It may not update as fast as some of us want, but what we have at the moment is more than enough to entice players and entertain them for a couple of years. by the time they get bored, others will take their place, while they quit.

It may not be the most entertaining, but having a semi-boring endgame and an interesting playthrough might be keeping their server costs manageable.

How good are warriors now?

in Warrior

Posted by: Azure The Heartless.3261

Azure The Heartless.3261

Well you see, guardians are “in a good place” so let’s just give them tooltip changes and the occasional buff every now and then, but warriors having average DPS is apparently too much and needs to be hit with a sledgehammer.

We want to promote build diversity, so rather than do anything to affect the longbow, hammer or the respective traits most popularly used with them, lets add a 5% nerf to the damage of hundred blades, whirlwind, making arcing slice still suck and let’s just nerf signet of rage for gits and shiggles and buff rampage so that still nobody uses it.

ANET LOGIC AT ITS FINEST.

Oh, and absolutely none of this is PvE balancing but you PvE players are just going to have to suck up and take the changes we do affecting like 2 people who play e$ports because they’re more important than balancing classes around WvW or PvE which are played by more people.

Meanwhile

“Warrior still OP please nerf so it cannot run away even though it hits like a wet noodle and needs to eat damage before it even gets strong enough to fight decently, and if I put two conditions on it or stealth it resets. It’s alright that hambow has been practically untouched, we just want warriors in general to be free kills”

Guardian is stronger in every way but we don’t care, our rears hurt from the buff Warriors got a year ago on February.

Also don’t nerf Ranger; a playstyle is only passive if a warrior is doing it."

If you are ran Physicals, you had 0 chance, so no, it isn’t.

It’s a nerf for the core thief, because core thief has no access to physicals. Their improv recharge type pool got increased by having one useless option added.

Sure, it recharges physical skills now, but it’s only a buff if you actually have daredevil -and- choose to use daredevil, which is a specialization of thief, and not core.

Just in case you’re not pretending that you don’t understand that

Full Zerkers ONLY!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Azure The Heartless.3261

It’s a funny world when people generally get zerker gear and see it as a requirement for group content whereas you can gear stupidly and still beat the same content.

So the game doesn’t require it but the players do. Why? Cause they want to farm fast. Guess that’s all that matters.

See, you’re partially right here. The problem isn’t this two dimensional.

Yes. you can beat the content with any gear.
Zerker is not a requirement for group content.

Some players require it because the “Group content” they are doing they have already done hundreds of times and there is no longer any immersion, any need for cutscenes, any need for group support, or items like that. They’re fast forwarding to get what they want. Namely, tokens (probably to forge swords for a precursor.).

Some players do not require it because there is still a need for immersion, group support, taking their time and enjoying the content to build social links inside of a TV. They play the content for the content, and the reward is a bonus.

The only issue stemming here is when a player from either of the first two groups tries to muscle their way into or imposes their mentality upon the players that belong to the other.

Farming fast is all that matters to Some. not all.

The whole thing would be fixed if people would agree to use the LFG tool properly and stop taking “play how you want” to mean “Force others to play how you want/accept how you play.”

I’m specced in 50% Zerker normally.

Do I join “LFG zerk only” groups with that? No, im not full zerk; I either spec if I want a speed run, or make my own group if I want to help someone who hasnt done it.

It’s not hard.

Isn’t devaluation the risk you take investing in something? Why should anyone be entitled to see items grow in value?

Thing is this is more of a bragging right investment. Since all of this stuff was bound to your account anyway, having it was an investment in collector’s value.
I take this update as a slap into the face to veterans who played since the beginning and as a sign that anet is too lazy to make new rewards despite earning 100m $ a year with the game.

Bragging rights have no monetary value. I agree there should be some new ideas, but just keep that in mind.

Tbh i dont see much people crying about warriors. They are pretty much in a bad place when it comes to pvp right now compared to other classes. If you are crying about warriors then clearly you will cry about every class you will encounter.

I think I love you.

If warrior is supposed to stick where they are, then they need guardian level sustain or ridiculous damage to compensate.

However, builds that enforce the latter are OP, and builds that enforce the former are OP.

Now being able to retreat is OP too?

If you want a free bag, just come out and say it.

I’m okay with the Adrenaline being spent on burst. It’s a bit rough to be able to spam eviscerate until it actually hits.

the only thing youll need to do now is hold off on mindlessly F1ing until you have a clear shot at your opponent. (which will be difficult without setups for mesmers and thieves.)

I’d appreciate if they buffed the damage for -all- the bursts due to the fact that now they aren’t just an addition to our skill bar once we build for them, and are more -sweetspot skills- that do brutal damage at the cost of adren reset.

But, given that people think bursts are too strong already, that may be a silly proposal to most.
