I used to think (build op, pls nerf) like you, but then I took a nerf to the knee.
I love how they call the things legendary, give them effects that belong in visually loud animes and people practically kill themselves trying to get the things.
The illusion of prestige, man. Gets the suckers every time, right square in the wallet and wasted time.
They’ve got you folks pegged. Why should they change anything when many here will complain, but keep throwing cash at gems for gold anyway, or keep throwing loot into the mystic toilet, hoping that today might be their fifteen seconds of ‘glory’.
They haven’t ‘fixed it’ on all these years because our isn’t broken for what they clearly want it to be accomplishing.
Don’t look at what they say or what you think they said – look at what they do, or in this case, don’t do.

I initially wanted twilight, but upon seeing how arduous the quest for a silly paintbrush effect is, I settled for a chaos set when the market was saturated and actually enjoyed the game with the time I would have spent grinding myself into disgust for a fleeting chance at a weapon that really doesn’t say anything about the wielder to begin with.

While I still think there should be some difficulty presented to people looking to tailor LFG that the current system provides, I agree with part of this.
People seem to be missing the fact that “playing how you want” does not automatically include “to the benefit of others.”
Selfish builds exist, but they do not help in dungeons. The whole problem that this “zerker meta waaah” stems from is backlash against players that have not realized the above disconnect between “playing how you want” and “playing to the benefit of others”, join an instance where the latter is top priority, get kicked for not adhering to it, then somehow reason that they should not have been kicked because the game allows them to “play how they want.”
It’s kind of painfully simple when you look at it objectively. All of the threads, the posts, the complaints…. If you are playing a game and someone elses time is invested, do what is beneficial to both of you instead of just thinking about yourself.
And, as an additional note, supporting someone who does not need the support when you could be assisting in a task where help is needed is just as fruitless as not doing anything.
Okay reality check. The people answering this interview are the end game guy and a WvW guy. They probably expected the interview to be about that.
These are the wrong guys for these specific questions. They might not even HAVE the answers and they tried to answer as best they could.
Well right. That’s my point. The whole interview screams, “We are way out of our comfort zone here. Halp.”
Now I feel bad for them, because the whole thing could have easily been them just plopped/ pseudo-strongarmed into an interview and then squirming through it without leaking data that they shouldn’t be.
My viewpoint depends on if they willingly decided to take a genuine shot at that interview and that was the result of careful preparation, or if it was more along the lines of them just doing it because the players say they don’t talk enough.

So letting them play in custom matches where they dont hurt leaderboard is bad for them how?
Not sure I follow. I’d prefer for them to stay out of ranked if they were bad and didnt want to learn.
I began to respond to this thread, but then I realized I do not care about people trying to fail an event on purpose that is tied to completion of the game’s story elements., only to aggressively berate anyone that opposes them

How to play roaming warrior:
1) Engage.
2) pop yours invulnerabilities and spam CC and damage like no tomorrow.
3) invul ending: Are you winning? finish him. Are you losing? Run away and wait for CD.
4) Is he dead? No = repeat.Warrior with IN COMBAT GAP CLOSER mobility is fine, the problem is the GTFO mobility. Anet should fix this like they fix the hammerbow build with that well deserved huge damage nerf.
the problem is being unable to be snagged while gtfo-mobility. You can see the warrior running off, and that is good enough to pre-snag him. obviously he will be coming back unless he gets cold feet, so you may even have multiple opportunities.
The issue comes in where snagging a warrior out of rush or leap becomes impossible due to heavy condi dura – .
could easily be solved by a nerf to food-melandru.
although, judging by how Anet made Rampage pretty much a 30 second gtfo button, it isnt like they’re dropping hints that warriors shouldn’t be able to retreat so easily.
Diving in and gutting warrior mobility will probably make 2v1 fights against warriors almost always losing battles (losing by which I mean the warrior will certainly die).
Can’t punish the whole class cause some have adopted a hit and run strategy.
Thieves do that all the time, by the way. Why can’t warriors?

High level play is merely a competitive level in which inherent class skills and behaviors become the determining factor for matchup. Its a simple way of saying “a theoretical match in which both players of a given class play perfectly.”
Any suggested nerfs to fix imbalance at high level play are saying that “even if class x plays perfectly against class y, the nature of his class by default puts him at a disadvantage.” These people want to balance that so that player of different classes but equal skill levels always draw.
That’s gonna be hard.
Trying to figure out if this is an actual thing or if OP is just too willing to believe that anything done by a player that slightly inconveniences him is done specifically for that purpose.

Thief gets two unblockable hits. If you’re in a situation where venomshare puts you at a disadvantage and you do not have backup, then.. that should be par for the course.
I’ll also humor you once. Assuming that you are 1v1 and not 1vx, where you should lose anyway, you only have two attacks every 40 seconds that are unblockable, which you can dodge, loS, or blink away from, interrupt, spoil via skills like The Prestige, and the like. Most of these options are on a < 40 second cooldown.
Just playing better would remedy this situation, instead of pining over what I assume is the inability to bunker 1v2+. If this is a “I’m scared I’ll be focused” angle, The Prestige works for that too. As does decoy or anything that puts an object between you and your attacker(s).

Boobs n Soul boasts competitive pvp, but I’m not sure there’s any mmo on the market right now so vastly superior to gw2 that it would just steal their whole playerbase.
We did this with Archeage. wait for the playerbase usurping to actually happen rather than predict it, they may launch terribly, who knows?
What is wrong with figuring out that what you want is not in this game, but there are other games that have exactly what you want?
Maybe people like an aspect of a game, but not the game itself, and want to add features from the game they hate to a game with a core they love.

Why do Warrior’s get enough mobility skills so it’s impossible to catch them when my Ranger has ONE leap skill on her GS with a cooldown?
Basically a Warrior can out-run ANY profession without issues because they have far too many leap/rush abilities.
There is a sollution that needs to be implemented to balance this, which is to introduce DR (Deminishing Returns) on their abilities. So if they leap or rush, the next similar ability will not leap/rush if used within 30seconds of the first ability.
Alternatively, if this is too difficult to implement, simply make all these abilities share the same cooldown when triggered, thus preventing these skills being used back to back.
Not only will this help balance Warrior’s in WvW, but PvE also, preventing them from “cheating” their way past tons of mobs in dungeons etc.
New player?
Are you actually complaining about leaps on warrior? There’s 2 in total. One on sword that’s 600 range on 8 sec, and one’s on 25 seconds on GS. Meanwhile you have a longbow with 1500 range specced with traits, that hugely out-distances any skill that warriors can equip.
dang. I thought the leap was 900. in that case, swoop outpaces Leap. 1100 distance on 12s vs 8s on 600?
one leap, one swoop = ranger in lead, 12s cd, warr behind, 8sc cooldown.
in 8 seconds warr ahead by 200, but in 4s Ranger outpaces.

Nothing is wrong with zerker meta – its literally the only logical solution. There is no tanks (ways to pull boss aggro), no healers (everyone heals himself) in this game. Which leaves only 1 role for you – DPS.
I see this being said a lot, and I can’t really see the logic.
Assume Elementalist fighting champ with a charge ability:
Elementalist initiates fight with Fire Attunement meteor shower. (DPS)
Champ starts average attacks
Elementalist switches to Air Attunement and uses a knock back skill to keep the champ far away. (Control/Tank)
Champ charges
Elementalist uses an immobilize skill in Earth Attunement. (Tank/Control)
Immobilize wears off and champ fires off another charge
Elementalist, now at half health, switches to water attunement and fires off the two heal skills and also uses the class heal skill. (Healer/Support)
Champ starts more average attacks
Elementalist switches to Earth Attunement and uses the auto attack to weaken the champ. (Support? Maybe?)
Elementalist switches to Fire Attunement and finishes champ with a Lava Faunt and auto attacks. (DPS)No offense but seems like you never done dungeons in GW2.

But then instead of switching to earth and other useless shenanigans he continues to spam 1-2 in fire until boss is dead. Add dodges if needed.See how easy it is if you just know how to dodge
Also the main point is to kill the boss very fast – ideally before your groups runs out of dodges/blinds/reflects. Which is usually 5-30 sec depending on boss.

A good elementalist will stack might first.
In case, using staff, Earth 2, Fire 2, 2 blast finishers -> enemy dead.

Sure cant. We have the lowest hp pool in the game and everyone got a damage buff.
Our defensive measure is literally only given to us as a trait when we are in stealth. And it was nerfed before we got it, because [reasons].
I don’t see how people can just ignore that. Common sense says that if you increase the dps of every class, and increase all the mitigation availability of said classes, but allow the class with the smallest hp pool to have its defense removed because [reasons], they’re going to be justifiably angry.

Better question, what reveals ‘are’ telegraphed? Why is stealthing not okay because [no counterplay], but reveals without counterplay are?

This is quite true. That being said, it’s still silly to have an uncounterable debuff be placed on us because stealthing was uncounterable. That isnt fixing the issue, it’s just changing who’s on the losing end of it. Not only that, but revealed affects our status vs all nearby opponents, so it doesnt really matter that it’s a junk utility/trait in most cases, because one person carrying it works for your whole team, and if you’re roaming youll take it because thieves.
There are better issues to talk about, but this is one of them.
No, it isnt rampant, but the fact that certain classes can press a button to strip thieves of most of their defense, their damage potential and their condi purging is a stupid reality. We’re discussing SA and how dumb it is elsewhere I think.

All mechanical issues and imbalances take second priority compared to this. It would be easier to point out valid compints if the first issue was not so pronounced.

Anything that applies a control effect, including daze on steal and stolen skills like mace head crack are options for breakbar depletion.

So if I am following the logic of this post, the OP is offended by the perceived ugliness of the Black Feather Backpack and would like an check-box option to toggle off “show other players black wings”?
I just checked the wiki Backpiece page and it shows roughly 100 different backpieces; is it the OP’s suggestion to have option check boxes for each individual Backpiece option or toggle off everyone’s Back item across the board.
- if you wish each piece individually, that will be a bit of designing for each item in question and leave us with quite the list of check-box options to pick from.
- if you wish to turn them all off, that will certainly be easier from a programming point of view but then that bares the question…Where does it end?
- What if next someone doesn’t like a character’s gaudy helmet and those hideously offensive gloves, do we have check-boxes for them and so on and so on.

It’s not feasible, period. Part of the experience of MMORPGs includes putting up with people that have different tastes, cultures, likes, dislikes, and mentalities than you. If you dont like something they’re wearing but it does not violate ToS, there’s nothing you can do.
But hey, people can turn off their own wings. I bet they’d love you to ask them to do so to appease your sense of fashion, as previously stated.

Excuse for new player (you take months old players for new player it seems but whatever) is just a lie. If a player couldn’t make the old gem store work, it means he couldn’t even power on his computer, and less use it, or use a mouse or a keyboard. He couldn’t even eat or drink alone.

I don’t think anyone here asked for that. At least I for one do not want to need a healer/support. What I would like to see is the ability to have a healer but not need one.
…..That is EXACTLY what you are asking for in an indirect manner. If a healer isn’t needed, then why are they in the party? I get you WANT to play that way, but the other 4 players have every right to ask the question, “why?”, do they not?
The ability for a party to “HAVE” a healer has always been present and what you REALLY want is for the game to be changed so other want them in the party. I hate to break it to you, but that will never happen unless they are “needed”.

In games where they are optional but not needed to clear content, why use them when you can get by without?
In games where they are needed to clear content, the game cannot progress without them, which means people will wait around until a decent healer shows up.
There’s no middle ground for classes dedicated entirely to healing (when it comes to dungeons, and dungeons specifically). We either need you or we don’t, on any given content.
Making them viable would mean creating content which requires their presence, which would gate that content twice. On the back end, people that want to play that content will need a dedicated healer. On the front end, people that want to play dedicated healer will only be needed on that content.
It makes much more sense to just not force people into roles.
You can’t force the game to consider healing power builds optimal, as it stands now. They will work, youll be able to kill stuff, but on dungeons, and dungeons SPECIFICALLY you will not be optimal, if the party is either speedrunning or knows how to run that dungeon.
Healing specs are welcome in small-and-large scale WVW fights though.

Just posted this in another thread. Can’t agree more.
There needs to be some logic coded in the post game score to penalize those who try vs those who give up. Sure, maybe the game would have ended up a loss anyway even if they tried. But going AFK does impact and it causes frustration for those who are honestly trying. Trying to win, or learn, or get better. Not because they are pro or look at how I did.
Last 4 games for me before stopping are all losses. In each case one or two of our team stopped playing. I know this isn’t unique to GW2 but it sure in the heck is frustrating. And definitely is a buzzkill with regards to the enjoyment of the game. Losing because the other team is better is perfectly fine. Losing to afk is not.
You can’t carry AFK.
Just a tidbit regarding this:
There is an implemented monitoring system to both determine when someone isnt participating long enough to warrant a kick, and one for pve that scales down rewards for people not actively participating, so there is foundation for this kind of solution.
However, I don’t think it is worth the effort. We’ll probably just go from afkers to people using macros or sandbagging to bypass the system once its been released.
It’s an aesthetic money grubber in a game where you can’t actually fly. The irony is that for me personally they represent a huge “I’m a moron” sign over most players heads. I’ve seen a handful of players rocking them that look awesome, it clearly suits that character and theme but for most it’s just a “look at me…I got the new skin” sign.

They’re also part of the old GW1 Raiment of the Lich skin, so this isnt the first time player characters have ever had wings in Guild Wars.

It honestly is the reason I quit. Getting insta gibbed by auto attacks and 4 fire/air sigils in a few seconds EVERY few seconds = no room for skill or counter play. It really is brainless. Unavoidable SPIKE damage. Celestial isn’t even that OP compared to these. I would make the icd 10 seconds for air and fire.
If you’re lasting more than a few seconds and are taking spike damage (that isnt instagib btw), the build they’re hitting you with is glass and you should adjust accordingly.
No pity for someone that lets a fire-air combo hit them on both weapon sets without doing something.

What does ranger pet do? It provides CC, some dmg and rezzes but is absolutely useless by itself.
Rings the bell? Yeah, thief is ranger pet basically. I don’t see how it can be enjoyable to be a pet for other players.

No? Thieves arent asking for anything but the required core tweaking to be competent in 1v1. And frankly, the players that are proclaiming flatly that a classes potential to 1v1 should be inversely proportional to its ability to move around while warrior exists should be ashamed of themselves. I should not be barred from at least speccing into actually fighting because one skill on one of my weapons lets me move a short distance away twice, in exchange for all of my combat potential for a few seconds.

And the viewpoint that “Thieves were once picked by people who played tournaments, so they must be good” is also stupid. The meta has changed. Not every PVP team is tournament-quality, especially in ranked, especially if pug. And that viewpoint fails to take into account that those thieves are part of a rehearsed strategy that is probably constantly reinforced vs teamspeak. It says very little if anything about the thief’s inherent viability. A soldier with a peashooter can be valuable in an army if he has a good team and a specific function.

What do you do when they place that portal on a chest or piece of siege?
Click on the chest or the siege and hit F. It will choose what you have selected over the portal.
I should have explained a little more. Of course if you see a portal you target the chest or siege first but if there is no portal most people just walk up to it and press F. I’ve seen many people get caught because the portal got put down just as they were pressing F.
It takes two skills to activate a portal. The image of the portal entrance will be visible under the chest until the place it leads to is created. That portal entrance has a 60sec life.
The only way to get chest-snatched is to not realize there’s a portal sitting on the chest when you’re opening (which is difficult) or somehow not have the chest opened while a mesmer has time to set up the whole portal trap (which is also difficult.)
You burst any build, vamp proc, and when it finishes teleport away. You had a kill without vamp runes, now you have nothing.
You have a class that cannot come near you for 60(90 is fine) seconds assuming it is a class with a blink off cd, he got the blink off without being stunlocked (mesmer only) -and- did not pick up bleeding/burning/poison/torment.
-and- had terrain suitable to obfuscate pursuit with said blink close enough to get to it with <20% HP remaining.
Those are rare instances. Not impossible instances, but rare.
Any other situation is literally waiting three seconds.

some simple tricks against d/d eles to avoid the burning damage. now this won’t make you win but it makes you last a bit longer:
drake’s breath: don’t dodge it if you can interrupt or block it. if you dodge it a portion of the channel will still be able to hit you.
burning speed: needs to be dodged, usually comes right after attuning to fire OR after drake’s breath. (also possible: drake’s breath -> fire grab -> burning speed)
ring of fire: only dodge out of it or walk out if you have a block up.
cleansing: cleanse after fire, cleansing when the ele is in any other attunement does not give you as much as in fire. this is important for example engis.
cc: if you want to cc an ele, fire is the right moment, you disrupt their gameplay and you take their pressure out for a moment.
burst: after they left water OR you’re sure to take them out.
your stunbreaks: don’t break stun if they don’t follow up with a burst like burning speed. if you want to burst and they have shocking aura, make sure to use stability.
This is stupid and gets under my skin (Which is a hard thing to do).
We’re making strategies for “how to slowly die against a d/d” because winning is not feasible.
Start laughing at them. There’s a difference between inconsiderate behavior and misplaced entitlement.
throw away disables and dps for couple k hp in heals.

so D-tier Damage on low damage weapons. Portable healing tank but nothing else. IF anything it’s unfair to the warrior for being one of the only viable playstyles atm.

Keeping such games on PC dictates a certain demographic of player and quality of game. Imagine….just for a second….console players having access to this game…..
Not all console-only players are bad. Only most of them.
But I don’t think there’s a console out right now that can handle the demands of GW2, and certainly don’t think theres a controller that can accommodate a full skill bar.
Don’t think it would be worth the venture to give players low quality, crippled access to a game that’s already well established on PC.
Phlunt was “mean to Taimi” because she’s a brat with zero sense of responsibility who has yet to learn she can’t do anything she wants without consequence. She’s an entertaining character for sure, but Phlunt’s actions make every sense in the world. I hope they write more characters like him.
Meanwhile Taimi is trying to save the waypoints from mordrem while Phlunt is twiddling his thumbs because he doesn’t think the dragon is an issue for Rata Sum at first, and all she wants is credit for the invention she worked on so vigorously.

1 million copies in a quarter is not tanking.
I’d like to add that thieves are toxic because any mistakes on their part can cause them to lose, and any successes on their part will cause them to be perceived as OP. (which is actually exemplified in the OP’s post). They’re either broken or useless, never seen as balanced (as long as stealth exists).
It’s quite the quandry. You fail and it’s expected, you do well and you’re a tall poppy that needs to be cut down to size so fighting you is fair.
That would make anyone sour over a period of time.
Not to mention that the narrowing ground of being an “average” or “okay” thief is due to the fact that the only thieves that are hard to fight are -really- good, and so their gameplay is setting the bar for nerfs to the class.
(Hell, thieves cant even use SA without being harassed).
