I used to think (build op, pls nerf) like you, but then I took a nerf to the knee.
The entire interview was Anet refusing to say anything of major significance at all.
I loved the transcript and how every paragraph was about absolutely nothing
Anet, It’s okay to have an “and now, something completely different” moment.
We already do that with WVW and jumping puzzles, are you kitten me

Allow players to choose whether they want “Beginner” or “Veteran” mode upon making a new character.
Keep all the gating behind the “Beginner” mode.
Please? Thanks.
Lol, did he actually try to demand the drop from her?
Gw2 amuses me so.
Ping him 250 packets of salt.
Ladiez and Gentlemenz.
I present to you.
GW2.
Where players will whine to nerf your class into oblivion because they cannot play, and then whine when you still play it in its crippled state because now it negatively effects them by crippling their team instead of being hard to fight.
10/10 rating.
Guild wars 2: “Lol you thought you can eat the cake and still have it?”
Water should be removed from all starter maps grin
stop now before they hear you
Slaughtering bandits is okay but having a verbal insult uttered within earshot is a travesty.
I’m not against being panicked or squicked by anything in game. For instance, I have galeophobia and am panicky when I need to swim anywhere sharks spawn in the game (especially champion ones.)
At the same time, it’s a game. The sharks aren’t real, and I can quit any time I want. The developers spent a lot of time modeling them and they make up a nice part of the underwater scenery. I still dislike them, but I wouldn’t be so audacious and self-serving that I’d ask them to remove them for the sake of people frightened by their very existence.
Your character isn’t talking to you. Get over it or turn your sound off.
There have been pretty much non-stop posts in this thread all day and yet the last “feedback” we got was 19 hours ago. Where are the devs?
Having lunch, duh!
I guess it’s taking a little longer than usual because they only wanted a couple of sandwiches but had to buy 400 of them.
^ —- My day has been made.
Ps. My heart goes out to the devs that knew this was a bad idea but could do nothing to stop it.
What if you took out a mini Jennah, and she took out a mini Logan. A miniature mini. How awesome would that be?
Minception
Sorry, pet peeve time. -gets on apple crate-
That’s not what “inception” was, layers of dreaming. Inception was seeding an idea in a dream so the target would think it was their idea without realizing it was given to them.

What dreadful business < SAB.

Something completely different? WVW.
… Forcibly enticing new players to at least level to 40 before they unlock every slot of their hotbar, and thus giving them more time to become dedicated to/enthralled by the game?
…. BRILLIANT!
Cow entertaining has never been more rewarding!
The problem is it affects people who have already done that
COME ON! I rolled a BEAT, race that is winning wars! Not SKIRT OR RAT!!!!
Please do something about it.
Thank you.
Rolled a bea[s]t, dissatisfied with bea[s]t stance?
Sure. let’s ask the animators and modelers who spent years on their work to alter it just for you.
New Players should be NOT able to kill good Players just because of the build.
Good builds don’t get killed by new players.
You, uh, may be holding that manual upside down. Removing or (nerfing) a build will shift the meta, not halt it completely.
Be careful what you wish for, because at some point your ‘good player’ build will find itself on the chopping block if you cut down enough people you assume to not be trying as hard.
Curious…where are all of the people that blindly defend the questional decisions and direction of this game? Even they must be like “Wow…can’t really defend it here..”
They are here:
Jeezus even Vayne doesnt like it.
I’m almost giggling.

. . . I really rankle at the reputation being saddled on the guy. He’s spoken out of a few things (most recently being how Traits are handled) but it gets buried, and forgotten, under how everyone remembers him for defending everything and anything blindly. Not to mention it’s rarely blindly. He does try out things before he passes judgement when it’s possible.
I’m not saying he is blind, I’m mentioning that he puts in significant effort to validate decisions that may otherwise be seen as a kick in the teeth by the majority, but this time is at a complete loss.
Forget whatever reputation people pile on him, the fact that he cannot actively defend this is a strong message.
….I’ve always seen him as a phoenix wright of sorts, don’t take my giggling as condescending or what have you. I actually find it humorous.
Still op though. Guaranteed.
Don’t you also have knockdowns, roots, knockbacks, fears, and other cc right at your fingertips, while [swoop] outranges savage leap by 200, and is under [rush] by 100?
All you need to do is keep LB in range, yes?
isn’t your swoop also on a 12 second cooldown, which is almost twice as quick as a warrior’s untraited rush?
Tl;DR Rangers have a myriad of skills to catch warriors, and if you’re fighting a Sword/GS warrior you should be tipped off from the get go that theyll try to run and lock them down before they start.
If you are not fighting a GS/Sword warrior then [Swoop] is enough to pursue.
if you want to talk about cheating past mobs we can talk about your hunter shot, but as for WvW “imbalance”, I would like to say this is a L2P issue if you have no retort as to why you cannot use your skills to keep up with a warr specced for mobility.

Honestly, and nothing against the op, but [redacted] the community whining that got us here.
Having to eat the cake you baked for yourself is just punishment.
Why do the mordrem husks avoid the Orrian Sea?
They never bring their swimming trunks.

Superior Rune of Aaaargh
1.) – 50 Vitality
2.) – 50 Vitality
3.) -50 Vitality, 50% chance to yell “Aaargh” and gain 3 stacks of Torment when struck (cooldown: 5 seconds)
4.) -50 Vitality
5.) -50 Vitality, 50% chance to gain Aegis every 3 seconds for 15 seconds (Cooldown: 5 seconds)
6.) 6.66% chance for either you or your foe to have all stats set to 0 for 10 seconds and swap positions when struck.

I was significantly moved by the following.
I understand if people think they’re being slighted or if something is too expensive, but I’ll be kitten ed if I’m not ashamed that the portion of the community of which I am a part spitting poison all over what amounts to months, if not years of hard work are depended on in part to pay the people that made the expansion pretty and possible.
Arguments of fairness aside, that kitten aint cool bruh.
To any devs that have the bravery to peruse this amidst the backlash, you guys did excellently.
Because the majority of players that want to play an MMO cannot handle the overwhelming sensory information that is 5 buttons.
enjoy.
Looked good on paper, but the actual patch lacks what it promised to deliver.
TP is okay though.
+1
Even though I have assumed the dev team is uncaring or otherwise occupied with something more important than thief balance and am considering just scrapping the class until they decide to realize something is wrong with it.
Remember when eles got the crap nerfed out of RtL because they could just “RtL out of combat, heal up, and come right back 15-20s later.” Say hello to warrior, everybody…
As a warrior main, I cannot deny that this is hilarious on both avenues.
(Those avenues being hilarious at the double standard, and hilarious in the fact that the disregard of the double standard made half the warrior weapons relevant again)
I will savage leap out of every chill AND break immobilize
I fear NOTHING except maybe medguards
Sure you can.
If you’re in PVP, use basic character models.
If youre in PVE, jump to another map.
If you’re in WVW, server transfer.
I wish I could hide all the asura too, now that you mention it.
(edited by Azure The Heartless.3261)
I will say that I am targeting the inactive people on the map and not the people whom get pulled away from their PC because of life reasons.
If you’re only targeting inactive people, and not “people whom get pulled away from their PC because of life reasons” then wouldn’t the report feature be kind of bad, because how can you distinguish between the two?
The shorter AFK timer sounds more reasonable.
This. Perfectly reasonable to kick people sooner on this map due to the nature of the map itself.
Less so to actually try to get them banned for standing around
Curious…where are all of the people that blindly defend the questional decisions and direction of this game? Even they must be like “Wow…can’t really defend it here..”
I’ll be honest with you and also point out something.
Up until this point, there have been several cases where decisions made by Anet had some form of understandable point. the NPE was one of them, although it was outlandish.
This, I cannot find anything nice to say about. I had something nice to say about commander tags being expensive as kitten. This, nada.
Not blind, just optimistic. That’s run out as far as this conversion goes. They didn’t even mention it was being worked on or whether there was a problem with silly players not being able to figure out what conversion rates were. This whole thing just comes across as “we need money now” thing. which, along with the comparatively nice and new gemstore releases when viewed alongside a halloween event near recycled in its entirety, doesn’t look very good.
What makes me more irritated is this whole stupid controversy could have been avoided by devoting that same effort to polishing the Halloween event at least a little. There was nothing wrong with the kitten conversion rate. They broke it for no reason.

10/10 would read again
There will be no dedicated healers in GW2. The game was designed around people being self sufficient, and an inversion of that would be against the core ideas of why the game was devved in the first place.
I’m probably some kind of weird person for thinking for myself, but I came here after hearing that “Guild Wars 2” was the name of a game, checking out the gameplay on youtube, and liking it.
Its not as modern a approach as “doing something because someone says so”, but I feel it has a certain old-world smartness to it that is just lacking in the world today.
c:
If you do not fall into any of these categories Idec if we lose. Usually if team loses it’s because of one or more of these is being done incessantly (obvious pet peeves like “waaah, thief ported” aside) .
(edited by Azure The Heartless.3261)
pve is boring
You’re boring
Yeah, open world content does get a little repetitive.
We absolutely should ask the devs to change things in the world so people dont fall asleep. Kind of like a “living” world, so to speak.
Ah well. one can dream. At least we have the crisp freshness of diverse, balanced pvp.
All colors for free.
Nice save, Anet.
My wish came true!
.the cycle begins. Now that two of my classes are nerfed, I will be making thread about other classes/builds too. What comes around goes around, always remember that!
I’m not calling for nerfs to any particular class. I’d like to see the entirety of the game turned down massively. I know its rare but my wish wasn’t actually to get Mesmers or Revenants nerfed, it was to have greater visibility on upcoming changes.
The trick to be mastered here is tuning everything down so that the game is:
a.) not boring
b.) equally demanding of effort regarding every class.
Fights lasting instants between opponents of near-equal skill = N.G.
Fights lasting years for the same = N.G.
Rofl.
Current gamer generation can’t handle Gw2, too hard pls nerf
Get downed
Tooltip top right pops up
“You’ve been downed! Defeat an enemy before your HP runs out to rally and recover! "
Nothing is wrong with zerker meta – its literally the only logical solution. There is no tanks (ways to pull boss aggro), no healers (everyone heals himself) in this game. Which leaves only 1 role for you – DPS.
You’re trying to apply Holy_Trinity.mmo to a game that doesnt have it.
“Oh, this game doesnt have trinity, so lets all spec into one part of the trin-”
there are no dedicated roles, but you can spec to any stat you want. What’s interesting is that, contrary to popular belief, players with high toughness pull boss aggro, so you can spec to be a tank, provided you can kite. You can heal allies outright or rev them -really- fast if you spec for that. you can spec for quintuple digit crits if you want as well. instead of having dedicated roles, GW2 has every character play a subset of all three roles, and leaves it to the player to decide how they want to balance it.
There are some players, though, that seem to think any kind of balancing attempt that gives any benefit to anything but dps, even in PVE, even outside of dungeons, even without the inclusion of said player into a “LFZerker only” group, is a failed build.
Then when people cave to their heckling, they get slightly more frequent success at the cost of their individuality, get bored when running the same dungeon 500 times cant be borne anymore, and sometimes even quit.
Play how you want. The only thing you need to be concerned about is being good at what you do.

On topic though, this is the first I’ve ever seen this. interesting.
I’m all for the balance patch, but I’d like to note that it has come to my attention, moreso now than ever, that much of the community doesn’t know what it wants in regards to global, widely-accepted balancing that affects one, several, or the relationships between classes and the cascading changes that those balances make to pvp, pve, and the components thereof.
I don’t know how much of our input the devs value and accept for these changes, or what format this input has to be in to be considered fair and valid (and, perhaps, that could be a topic of discussion so we can tailor our posting regarding this topic appropriately), but I’d rather:
And hope that the patch either provides a happy medium or the beginnings of one with iterations close behind to smoothen the transition.
We only get them twice a year. I can wait longer for one if it gives the game as a whole six months of relative peace between classes.
So yes, we need it. But let’s not hasten it.
(edited by Azure The Heartless.3261)
I don’t think any company that I can think of has explicitly told their consumers that profit is the reason for that sort of system. It’s how companies, on the whole, operate.
Right, but anet has gone a step further — they’re trying to pass this off as new player experience , which seems far-fetched given the 75g minimum.
You expect companies to not mention the motivation, you don’t expect them to fib…
This. I try really hard to think there is good meaning behind most of these updates, but expecting a new player to have 75g when they have a notably intelligent economist on board is just hilarious.
There’s just no way, Anet.
To each their own.
Some people have valid complaints, other people just aren’t capable of being satisfied.
Its up to them whether they are here or not though.
Thank you, devs.
It’s appreciated.
All anet has to do is reward both “win” states (retaking temple, defending temple) with the same drop table/
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Sneak_Gyro
portable stealth for 30 seconds on a 20 second cooldown
vs
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Shadow_Refuge
Stealth for four ten seconds on a 60 second cooldown -unless- revealed, knockbacked, ported, taunted, feared, at which point skill has done nothing useful.
But I’m not salty.
Yours truly,
whatever.

The play your gamestyle thing also means let players rush in full zerk. And people always want the fastest things
This.
Play how you want means “Let people play how they want” as well.
If someone’s trying to catch a TV show or has to get to work so they need four zerkers, let them get the zerkers.
If you want to do a dungeon with a build you like, do it. Only the speedrunners care about full zerk, and some people play the dungeon just to play it.
The funny thing about this is that, while Karl is concern about balance _(not letting Thief be overpowered — which I support)
Nail on the head, but you cant blame him, because the moment thief is competent people will start crying
just accept it. Maybe if we try hard enough we’ll get nerfed again.
Mawdrey was rather disappointing after I made it and realized it had a random daily limit of like 3-4 uses. I been often gathering Bloodstone Dust faster than it can eat. It will take months for it to eat everything. I also rarely get anything of real value from it so I don’t see why the limit is necessary: I want Mawdrey to be a gluttonous pig. We’ve yet to get a Dragonite devourer as well so that will be incredibly backed up the time it happens and take forever to feed upon. These mats are still out of control.
Throw some of it out…?
If all the avenues that generate this for you remain open, there’s no reason to hold onto so much of that stuff.
. So I propose a solution to this problem. In games like smash brothers where mobility was at a point king, the developers decided to introduce a counter to it, where if you continuously dash, you have a chance to slip-
No.
Any random uncontrollable factor that could lead to death or ruin meticulous, skillful play that is built into the game would do nothing but aggravate the player base.
Please do research.
“Many players have cited random tripping as an unnecessary and detrimental addition to the game, since, in their view, it not only adds nothing worthwhile to the game, but introduces a constant element of chance that disrupts gameplay and has the potential to decide a match. Random tripping is also said to harm the metagame of Brawl; it cannot be used as part of any strategy since it is impossible to predict consistently enough.”
It’s not the game’s fault that players can learn boss mechanics well enough to not worry about toughness. It’s not the players fault either. At some point the community that has some kind of hangup with zerker is going to need to bite the bullet and realize that there’s nothing they can do to make toughness oriented gear as viable as damage oriented gear short of forcing people to take damage which is poor game design and would be shunned by non zerker and zerker armored players alike.
To people that see the zerker meta as a problem, literally nobody is forcing you to run it. you can use anything almost anywhere you want The only time this becomes an issue is when someone who does not want to run a dps oriented set tries to join a speedrun (that mentions zerker only in LFG.)
This whole issue is over some players being disallowed in a fraction of dungeon groups looking to speedclear, because they won’t gear for speedclearing.
There’s nothing to fix. People just need to stop joining speedclear dungeon groups if they won’t gear for speedclearing.

Empower us to do it for you…
Since Guild Arenas are a sandbox please allow us to somehow disable certain types of builds so we can balance the game ourselves how we like.
Thank you!!!
