Dear Lord, people are dumb.

PTR PATCH 2.1.2

- Pets

- Several monster attacks that are intended to be avoided by players that weren’t already dealing reduced damage to pets now deal significantly less damage to pets

At least DEVs in other games have realized, that punishing classes with pets by having bad pet AI is not acceptable.

But no, you will always find people that will defend bad game design, no matter what.

The “find another way” bullkitten talk, “think out of the box” bullkitten talk is totally infantile, as long as other classes can succeed by doing the same old same.

Every zerg event in GW2 nowadays comes down to be a battle vs a timer, which means that it is a DPS race.

It is ANet last staw to make the zerg events sort of challenging. It also kills any variety in matters of builds.

No MMO with a sub would ever let a mess like this go live. They would lose customers.

The fact, that ANet released this abomination of a patch shows, that they do not play in the same league as successful AAA titels.

This is just another F2P game, that thinks its customers will accept anything because it is for “free” anyway.

No pre-purchase but buying expansion

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Kaiyanwan.8521

Kaiyanwan.8521

This is my way of protest for ANets expansion-gate.

I will buy the “expansion” or whatever you want to call it – twice. But I wont pre-purchase it.

There are several reasons for this, but the biggest of them is that I think that ANet got greedy. Therefore not pre-purchasing the game from their store will result in the smallest amount of money they will get from me (unless I wouldn’t buy it at all).

Let me explain:
If you pre-purchase GW2:HoT directly from ANet, they will earn $50 minus taxes (before NCsoft’s share). That is actually what I really like to do for companies I support, financing them directly. I would have done so, if the whole expansion-gate had never happened.
Now if you buy the game from a retailer, the profit for ANet is at max 1/3 of the recommended retail price. That’s just how it works. So by buying a physical or digital copy in a store I will cut ANet’s profit by 2/3.
The funny thing is, that I will have to pay less for the game (around 1/3) from a retailer, as they tend to offer sales at release so more people will buy it in their store (I expect GW2:HoT will be sold as low as $35), which will result in a win/win situation for me.

Sorry ANet. Nowadays it becomes fairly common to treat existing customers worse than new ones (like new contracts being cheaper in the first 24 monthes and stuff) but I am not going to accept that from you.

I will vote with my wallet – and still enjoy GW2:HoT.

Thank you.

Wv3 players want Wv3 on their maps. I think that concept is easy enough to be understood.
Scarlet and LS sound horribly PvE to me, and PvE crowd does not necessarily mix well with Wv3 PvPers.

PvEers will feel ganked and PvPers will feel like the update is not focused on them, even though they waited forever for it to happen. Sounds about right to make everyone unhappy. Good…

The aim of this change is to help Warriors with the brain of a dead horse to not get killed with the speed of a snail by clones around him he can not distinguish from the real mesmer in PvP. Otherwise, ANet will get in trouble with most of their PvP playerbase.

How do people not see the following points is beyond me:

1. The BiS item is only available on the gem store (P2W)
2. All following items on the gem store in this category must have the same effect or better to be attractive to buyers (P2W power creep)
3. Items of this category formerly sold on the gem store are inferior (end of P2C for this item)

This is just the first item in a row of many to come. It is like ascended rings leading to full ascended. It is bad.

And then you tell these 99% that they are selfish and that this is a killjoy threat? People should listen to themselves sometimes.

“Everyone, including casual gamers, by level 80 should have the best statistical loot in the game. We want everyone on an equal power base. The rare stuff becomes the really awesome looking armours. It’s all about collecting the unique looking stuff and collecting all the other rare collectable items in the game: armour pieces, potentially different potions – a lot of that is still up in the air and we’ll finalise a lot of those reward systems as we get closer to release. And those come off of things like the bosses at the end of dungeons – the raids.”

Honestly, while I like the idea of updating my leveling guide, I will be waiting to see how Traits 3.0 are going to work first.

And to be fair about leveling right now, my guide would be like:

Step 1: Create a mesmer.
Step 2: Go to EotM and follow the zerg.
Step 3: Profit.

I realy hope ANet will get the fun back into leveling with Traits 3.0, otherwise I will just delete my guide and write something like:

ANet has no idea how to balance stuff.

They also got their focus wrong: eSports for the win! As if anyone cares. They try so hard to be something they are not that they make GW2 even more of a niche it already is.

Meanwhile in the real world:

B&S drains players for vastly superior PvP. While PvE is a bit old-fashioned, it is at least something new to toy around with.

Black Desert around the corner: Awesome PvE and a home for WvW people.

Other titles in the making (mainly for the WvW and PvP crowd).

What do the GW2 players get again? A patch with minor PvE stuff every three monthes that destroys professions for an unpredictable time every time.

Are you nuts ANet? Do you think people will support this model by buying your next expansion?

This must be the worst business plan in computer gaming history. You must be living in an ivory tower over there…

Sounds like we get very little in matters of new playfields.

They try to avoid answering this question like snails a pile of salt.

On the one hand, they give us a very traditional expansion, they even return to the Personal Story concept, some horizontal progression (like AoC has done too years ago) some new PvP and WvW. A new profession to toy around with.

On the other hand they call it all new and exiting as if they have invented “endgame” expansions and give this as an excuse that the new landmass will be fairly small (at least this is what I get out of the interviews).

Saying that other games have fire and forget zones you leave behind after leveling through and using them as an excuse to produce less zones because you know, reasons, is incredibly irritating.

So ANet only has to produce the small amount of endgame zones other expansions also have and skip the leveling zones because you know, no leveling? What will the players gain from that? If you want to impress players you have to give at least the same amount of zones as the other MMOs and make them endgame, otherwise there is a LOSS for them.

If the new landmass feels any smaller than what other games with a similar approach have done (no leveling, just endgame – like in Rise of the Godslayer for AoC) I will be thoroughly disappointed.

ANet is not the first company to release an expansion with only endgame stuff. HoT will be judged in regard of what people have experienced before.

And I actually like leveling and working my way through zones, so something has to replace that experience anyway. I hope it is not endlessly replaying a zone, to actually level you character (masteries) to replay the zone and see a tiny bit more of it.
Sounds like a chore to me.

Most MMOs avoid one-time events for a reason. Badly executed, they will kitten off all of their customers.

Best example: This event.

Those who participated had to suffer massive lag, endless mobgrinding and many missed the reward.
Those who could not participate feel betrayed by seeing all those shiny items which were given away.

So most of the playerbase is now unhappy – way to go ANet…

Kaiyanwan.8521

The question is, what do you think you will achieve with this move? I still think, this is a bad decision in general.

If you check other games forums with “special” community members, you will see, that the influx on forum communication – after a brief period of excitement – is neglectable.

Most games just got lower DEV or GM forum visit frequency after installing community representatives. I fear it won’t be any different over here.

There is very little to gain with this move, while the risk of unhealty communication is rising. Community representatives are easily manouvered into a defensive position even professionals can’t easily handle. There is a reason, why the profession of a CM is important and challenging. Non-professionals will just end as target dummies, which will burn them out. That will cause a feedback on ANet’s communication in general.

Lose/lose.

So why again would you install community representatives?

Am I the only one being disappointed?

Guild Wars 2 had a really good and promising start.

But then, ANet descided to start a devolution spiral. Now, GW2 is more generic than ever, with more and more replaceable temporary raid content sold as the best thing ever.

It is actually a pain to watch something nice being butchered by the Dev’s for the sake of not having a clue what to do and start copying other MMOs.

You know, the same argument was given for the final of Season 1. Anyone remember the final episode, how it took them one week after releasing it to fix the most gamebreaking bugs.

What I see from ANet is just way too many excuses for not delivering what they advertise.
Great stuff is coming, they say. They just don’t say when for a reason. Because I am fairly convinced that a) they do not know when it will be done if ever or b) they are not even convinced that what they produce right now is great stuff.

Too little too late, as seems to be the whole philosophy of the content updates for GW2.

Problem for me:

PvE is boring. My character does not evolve, it is the same old same since release.
All LS missions are now either: 1. spend hours talking or 2. kill stuff until boss appears and kill boss. Those missions feel repetative and interchangeable.
Played The Dragon’s Reach Pt. 2 for the first time yesterday, finished it in one evening. That’s all? Not enough for me.

The new maps are tiny and get old even faster. Nowadays I save up content for 4 monthes to get enough stuff to actually feel like it is reasonable to log on for a week. And then it lasts for a max of three days. That’s really all this game has to offer? I do not feel like this is worth to invest any money in. Or time.

She killed thousands before, why would two random NPCs make any difference. My friends? Braham? Nope. Marjory? I would sacrifice her every day to hear the whole “masterplan” of Scarlet.

Will Teq Scaling Happen?

This thread is a testament to the laziness and entitlement of MMO players:
Read through it all. Its a list of everything players think they shouldn’t have to do. meanwhile theres a lot of people who are doing Tequatl daily and getting the rewards and having fun doing it. Tequatl is one of the most fun events to do atm.
If it was impossible and noone was doing it…I might agree with you people. But hundreds of people are doing it daily. Many people enjoy it and think its a fun event.
You have 10+ other easy mode world bosses……..you’re losing nothing by not doing Tequatl. Anything he could drop in terms of stats can be had anywhere else. So skip it and forget about it. Those of us willing to do it will continue to do so.
Its a sad topic on an MMO forum when it’s full of crying about having to interact with others in a coordinated effort. Especially when on the same page as this topic is one about Legendaries not being "legendary’ and some things should be challenging to get and make you earn them. Well guess what? We can’t have that kind of content and this topic illustrates why. Too many people cry about having to do anything more than the absolute bare minimum for reward. So you end up with Legendaries that can be bought, Ascended weapons that are a joke to just grind out without doing anything real and temporary content that amounts to fetch and kill missions because noone will do anything beyond the absolute least they have to. Sunless skins as a reward that shows you took the time to kill Tequatl probably many times? No…can’t have that, dumb it down so everyone can have those skins and in 2 months we can all complain about lame it is there’s nothing to earn.

And Kaiyanwan – tequatl doesn’t provide a source for farming Ascended. Get your facts straight. Yes he does have a chance to drop something, but in that time it takes you to get a Sunless weapon, you will likely have farmed out multiple Ascended weapons via the mindless way. Saying Tequatl is the only major source of a 10% power jump is a joke and only shows you are grasping for a reason to hate Tequatl or don’t know how Ascended weapons work.

But this MMOs was promoted for people that do not like MMOs. Yet you list all the things that a classical MMO offers and tell people lazy, when they do not want to do it.

Are you serious? Calling people lazy? For what they were told to expect? Dear heavens.

Will we get any coverage about PvE or WvW balance? Really not trying to be angry here, but the attention such a miniscule game mode is getting at the total expense of any balancing in regards to the two large game modes is really disheartening.

It’s not that the imbalance itself is annoying, but the lack of even acknowledging the issues is. I can do years of waiting. Waited 7 years for some changes in WoW. But at least the devs replied in vanilla-era threads that they’d like to do a change there or here but had no resources for it.

And what are the issues?

How do you want WvW balanced? Balance to roamer vs roamer? balance each profession based on zerg vs zerg fight? balance each profession for assaulting a keep? Balance each profession for defending a keep?

If you are going to claim there are issues, it is perhaps best if you list them. As well, what you claim as issues may be non-issues to the rest of the population.

The only issue I see is that GW2 still wants to be an eSports.

To the leaders of our nations.

It has been over a year since the allied forces of the Pact have defeated Zhaitan, an elder dragon.

But, instead of moving on, the Pact has now been rotting in Fort Trinity for several monthes, short a mission, wasting supplies. Orr is no longer a place for our forces to conquer, the risen armees will diminish over time with Zhaitan gone. Orr is cleansed, others will take it.

We should mobilze the Pact, moving to the deep north or south-east, where the corruption of two elder dragons is still spreading, endangering men, women and children everywhere.

Leave the minor threats like those lousy pirates to the Seraph or any other regional force. The Pact exists to defeat dragons, and we have already waited too long to fulfill our destiny.

We must face the elder dragons, and let them feel the power of our united forces.

You may notice first the awesome shatter/summoning sounds (and Thief pistol sounds!). The Mesmer has Shadow Refuge instead of the Thief, forward Phase Retreat that cause damage (and for some reason cause swiftness to enemy mobs), scepter that sound like a 150mm tank gun, insta-popping of 2 Phantasmal Duelists, Chaos Storm that cause poison, cripple and apparently insanity, instant staff auto-attack on target, commanding phantasms to move to location and omgisthatafreakininstakilllasergreatswordthatsoundlikeafreakinrailgun?!?!

The best part of this trailer is how the mesmer casts two iDuelists at the same time, they kill off two different mobs and he can shatter them on the last.

Nah, they will say, if I don’t like the game, I should play something else. Problem, I like the game somehow, just not the countless flaws. Like why do we not just merge all those empty servers? Because we expect millions of players to come back out of the blue some day?

I do not know.

Why must people keep shouting expansion?

People are shouting for expansions because this game currently has a total lack of content to keep people logging in.

Don’t make ridiculous statements. This game puts out more content that any MMO ever created.

You’re joking, right? You have to be joking…

Yeah, must have been ironic. Noone would seriously think that fluff and recycled zerg stuff is real content, compared to what other games patch in…

1.2 Leveling Guide: Part 2 – Leveling

1.2.1 Leveling 1-20: Me, Myself and I – How to blow up the guy in the mirror.

Here we go, after wasting hours on the character creation screen to find a name that is not taken, you have arrived in the world of Guild Wars 2, Tyria.

The good news is that you are wielding a rusty little sword right now, a formidable choice. Swords will be your friend on your way to 80, so get some practice with it. Do not replace it unless you find a better sword or – even better – a greatsword. Well, you can fool around with other weapons and you should, but for leveling itself everything with the word “sword” in it is your first choice.

The third sword skill will generate an illusion – to be more specific – a clone. There are two kinds of illusions, clones and phantasms.
Clones are as pretty or ugly as you are, doing close to no damage and are as durable as ice cream in a melting pot. Sounds promising? Do not despair, clones are mostly seen as a resources for the Mesmer’s profession skills – aka shatters. More about that in a bit.
Phantasms look like you too – sort of – just without textures and more transparent. They actually do good damage and can take a hit, and they also are a resource for shatter skills.
The maximum amount of illusions you can have at a time is three, if you cast a new illusion with three illusions out, one of four things will happen:

1. If you cast a clone, the oldest clone will be replaced by the new one.
2. If there are three phantasms, the clone will replace your oldest one.
3. If you cast a phantasm, the oldest clone will be replaced by it.
4. If there are three phantasms, the oldest phantasm will be replaced by the new one.

So what to do with all those illusions? The same thing you do with all stuff you no longer need in real life – blow them up! Shatter skills (F1-F5) will cause an effect which will get stronger the more illusions you have available. While you can use all shatter skills without a single illusion, which can be very useful in certain situations, it is more often the wiser choice to cast a full shatter (three illusions) to maximize damage.

Your first shatter skill “Mind Wrack” will unlock at level 5. It is our bread and butter and what else you would put on a bread skill. It will be hard to get enough illusions on the screen below level 10 to cast a full shatter, as the mob will be pretty dead until then anyway. Remember, illusions are bound to the enemy they got cast on and will disappear the moment this enemy dies. It is therefore better to cast a Mind Wrack with only one or two illusions, if the enemy is close to dying anyway.

When you reach level 6, you will get the choice between a greatsword or a torch. This is actually not choice, it is a test. If you pick the greatsword you have been reading the guide carefully up to this point. If you take the torch, god help you. I surely can’t. Only excuse, you found a better greatsword on the way, or on the trading post…
The greatsword is a great weapon. It is ranged, everything hits more than one target and its fourth weapon skill, which gets unlocked conveniently at the very same level as your first phantasm skill, the “Phantasmal Berserker”.

Now that you got your first phantasm, you also got a decision to make every single fight: To shatter the phantasm or not. Sure, while the phantasm is alive, it will cause great damage, but if it dies, you have missed the opportunity of a stronger shatter. If you ask me, and you should, let the phantasm do its job once and then, with some clones around create butterflies – which means use it kittenter fodder. Later on you will get a better feeling for when it is right to wait, but for now, you should get some practice on how to shatter in the first place.

Is "Living Story" interesting?

1) Is Trahearne in it?
2) Does it have legitimately good writing?
3) Does it involve interesting game mechanics?
4) Does it have an enticing story driven by genuinely well written characters?
5) Are the rewards fun? CAVEAT: I don’t want to pay for rewards… I want a good story first and foremost.
6) Is there an actual expansion with game content in the works?
7) Is it worth the money?

1. Trahearne is just a visitor, but he was still better written than any of the characters involved in season two. Did I hate Trahearne? Yes. He had personality though. Do I hate the season 2 characters? No. But the reason is, I do not care about them at all. If they all died tomorrow, I wouldn’t care. It is a result of really terrible character development.

2. The writing is as lame as the characters. It feels like it was done to give a reason to travel through the maps for moving from point A to B. It doesn’t give you the feeling that you are needed there, more like “hey you are done here, go there”. Pretty much like working off quest hubs in other MMOs. There is no real depth, no progression.

3. They went with the old-fashioned dungeon system of older MMOs now. Learn the mechnanics from the trash and use them at the boss. Unfortunately, that is fairly boring for a single player game. Everything becomes very predictable, which gets old fast.

4. As explained in 1. and 2. a clear “NOPE”. The story is so shallow that it hurts. The single episodes are extremly short, so there is actually very litte space to fit story in them, so that might be a reason too.

5. You still get a great amount of trash, which feels as rewarding as a getting a full dust bin for your birthday. At the end of the later episodes, you get a piece of armor only useful for visuals.

6. No official announcement for an expansion, so probably not in the next 12 monthes.

7. I would never pay money for what we got with the LS. But this is your choice.

The characters have at least as much depth as the story.

Seriously.
