Hey, they’re the ones that make the case for that, not me. How else could you justify wanting to keep things away from people, when it would in no way hurt you for them to have it?

Because as usual you’re misrepresenting what people are saying and it’s plain as day.

Celestial Ascended Armor

Sarrs.4831

what about stats tho ?

Stats will still only be swappable on legendaries and not ascended gear.

My thoughts on the coming ascended account-bound change- Don’t make ascended Celestial. Make Ascended Zerk’s for PvE. For WvW, it can be a bit trickier to pick a set, but I don’t think it’s possible to go wrong with Ascended Soldier’s.

Sarrs.4831

Not awarding any kind of skilled groups or smaller servers or anything.

On the contrary, kill score will be drastically increased in relevance. If a guild group can reliably and efficiently murder zerglings, it can create score swings in the skirmish that would otherwise be irrelevant in the current state of WvW.

Creating advantages for smaller servers is a bizarre idea, but better organized and higher skilled servers will come out of the change better than they were before as the timezones that they can dominate will actually produce real differences.

I think passives like that are there because of massive coordinated burst. A spectator that has no gw2 xp wont be able to follow along when everyone is getting downed 1 after 1.

I can’t even remember what the thief changes are. The only three I remember are the changes to Flanking Strike, the change to Ricochet, and the change to Venomshare which makes its scaling actually make sense.

I don’t want to sound like too much of a negative nancy, but aren’t thieves already quite good?… It feels like only a few days ago people were saying “thief apex predator, not worth running any other roamer”.

[New Effect] Suppressed

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Sarrs.4831

Sarrs.4831

hmmm would you let me try to explain it properly so you might reconsider?

tl; dr
it makes the last applied boon expire much faster.

hmmm i thought the example is being clear enough.
which part of it is confusing?

Okay I’m reading through.

Condition’s design flaws:
1. The condition is self destructing. If you stack it too high, it self destructs. This is really really bad. No boon or condition in the game gets worse if you stack it too high, outside of endangering yourself in boon steal/condition transfer situations.

Seriously if you stack this to 25 it will almost immediately vanish from the target because it will eat boons more quickly than the target could possibly apply them. Stacking something as high as possible is supposed to be rewarding, not punishing.

2. The effect already exists in the game in another form, which is boon stripping. There are no conditions currently existing which are basically another game effect’s “little brother”; they all work differently. Even the cripple/immobilise/chill family has distinct differences between them that make them work very differently from one another, but this one basically just strips boons over time.

3. Condition stacking. The game can only handle so many conditions at the moment before it gets ridiculous. Consider an engineer; they can currently apply almost every single condition in the game in a burst and overload peoples’ abilities to cleanse conditions. How much worse would that get if they had access to another condition? We can already see this in play with Perplexity runes.

Some classes are intended to have strong access to very few conditions. Some classes are intended to have access to many conditions, but their access is limited by cooldowns or resources.

And the one thing relevant to your specific example:
Why do mesmers need more boonstrip? Sword is already one of their best weapons, if not the best.

Redesign - Ranger

Sarrs.4831

There is absolutely no problem with a Class having an Interupt Mechanic on Auto Attack.

I’m not sure whether you’re genuine here? Yes there is a problem with having a class having an interrupt mechanic on auto attack. Saying “no there isn’t a problem” when someone says there’s a problem doesn’t mean that problem goes away.

And yeah, there is. Two problems:
1. Interrupts aren’t supposed to be something you have an infinite supply of. Skewing the balance further towards interrupts seriously affects how the game works.
2. RNG on a clutch play element like an interrupt is bad.

In Fact, anet has had also absolutely no problems with it to put the most strongest punishing negative condtion in regard of this fast paced action and position oriented combat system GW2 has- Torment – into the game and put it on AA for the Mesmer’s Scepter!!

The most punishing conditions in the game are Fear and Immobilize.

Torment is damage. It’s damage that inclines you towards acting in a specific way- not moving- but it’s just damage. Comparing it to an interrupt is apples and oranges.

To come to an end, I just hope, when I put up the complete concept in one go with the data file, that people will just get then a better understanding about how much this class needs some serious changes.

Why do people think that classes need complete overhauls? Why do you think that upon seeing your master plan, everything will be made clear?

Making tiers in Raids like fractals?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Sarrs.4831

Sarrs.4831

Obviously one that will keep raids from dropping from development board by increasing their auditory – a training one. Everything ascended and legendary quest items could be removed from loot table, except maybe shards (or they can even make last wing boss still drop one LI, to motivate experienced guys actually do this mode too).

We have multiple cases of developers or VIPs on the forums stating that the raids punched above their weight, including “more players raided than we expected” and “raids are helping player retention” and “raids are wildly successful”. The resources that were spent on the initial release seem to have paid off.

With this in mind, why would you draw the conclusion that an increased audience is necessary for the mode to carry its weight?

Feedback/Questions: The Megaserver System: Guilds and the Future

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sarrs.4831

Adding LFR would really undermine the experience of already optional high-coordination fights.

Thats what mega guilds like TTS do, though. You’re essentially teaming up with other like-minded randoms. LFR would streamline this process so the players won’t need to exploit the guild system anymore. Another approach would be to make teq+wurm pug-able

I don’t want to go on too huge of a rant, but there’s a difference between the game finding a group for you, and you finding a group with the game’s help. Experience is more fulfilling when you feel like you’re doing it yourself rather than the game holding your hand.

Do you think Raids in GW2 were a bad idea?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Sarrs.4831

Sarrs.4831

But again, that is an unrealistic goal for this content.

No, it is. It’s not unrealistic for content to expect you to have some friends. It’s an MMO after all.

and an alternative to that IS warranted.

Value judgment which has been dismantled repeatedly before.

Real players have real lives

Implying that people who can raid don’t have real lives. For someone who complains about exclusionary raid groups you sure are quick to bat when you have the opportunity to insult people.

and can’t be responsible to always be available to raid when the other members of their team are. They need the flexibility to come and go without disappointing nine other people. They need the flexibility to be able to raid when it is convenient for them to spend that time and effort.

This is called a bench. If you have a competent raid team, you’ll have one that you can sit on.

Even then, there are better options than what you suggest when a raid member wants to sit out, like a variable raid size.

You can’t simultaneously make the argument that "raids place this, and this, and this, and this burden on the player, " and ALSO “and that’s ok, no alternative to that is necessary.”

Uh, yes I can. I don’t see anything exclusive about those two positions.

Either the one and only version of raids is flexible enough to adapt to a wide range of players, OR there needs to be alternate versions of raids that are more flexible to their varying needs.

But there are already multiple forms of content that aren’t flexible enough to adapt to a wide range of players. There is no structured high-difficulty version of the Vinewrath. Dungeons have fixed difficulty levels. The only case you can make is Fractals, which are completely in the toilet at the moment. How can you make this case when almost every other form of content in the entire game does not have multimodal play, and the one which does is currently public enemy no.1? Spoiler: the answer is self interest

Ascended Weapons and WvW

So how much exactly do we know about the materials required?

A. There are materials which are constructed from other, lower-tier materials. Most crafting mats are obtainable in WvW; the main difficulty is rare crafting mats. PVE does have an advantage, but we don’t know how much by.
B. There are materials which are granted by completing some kind of content on a daily basis, and WvW was explicitly included as an example of this. I don’t know whether we should assume this is “daily per content” so you can get one by JPing, one by wvwing, one by pveing… Or whether it’s “material per day” in which case WvW is enough to get it.

The gambits on the Queens gauntlet is well taken. Still, there was no easy mode liadri.

This is a good point. Gambits always raised the difficulty. Raising the difficulty is a good thing, but gambits are modifiers on a baseline, and if the baseline is junk, the gambit won’t fix it. There were tons of bosses other than Liadri that you could use Gambits on to get your achievements and you’d do something tricky to completely nullify the Gambit. I remember there was a sniper boss in particular that was trivially easy if you had the reflects/aegis to counter it.

Outfits instead of Armours

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Sarrs.4831

Sarrs.4831

I strongly agree.

I think part of this ‘push’ to make outfits rather than armor pieces (if there is such a thing) is because they might be worried about how much stuff they put out.

If they put out a single armor set for one armor class, the other ones will feel left out
If they put out three at a time, that’s three times as much work to do

And if this is an issue, I think it’s an imaginary one, so long as there’s some effort put in to make it ‘fair’. I far prefer individual pieces because they’re just so much more fun to mix and match. Hopefully this is just an imagined trend, and that they’re just putting out outfits atm because it’s a new feature, rather than something that they’re actually going to do.

Do you think Raids in GW2 were a bad idea?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Sarrs.4831

Sarrs.4831

True, but realistically, most people never come back. Some do, I’m sure you have a pocket full of anecdotal people who left and MMO and came back

Speaking of anecdotes, I’m sure you have a bunch of anecdotal people who left and never came back.

But, y’know. It’s been proven that MMOs can pull back players to hit high participation levels after the launch of the expansion purely on the back of advertising. I’ve already told you where this happened.

That’s what I’ve been saying to you this entire thread, and why I’ve been trying to educate you on how it does work very differently than other MMOs you might be used to.

I know perfectly well how itemization works in GW2, man who does not have any experience with raids.

Stat cap is easy to get. This is what matters. This is what creates the level playing field.
Skins are rewards for doing specific content.

Again, I listen to every word, but listening doesn’t mean agreeing. I listen to you, but you’re still wrong.

yes, repeat the mantras. repeat them i say! if you were wrong, you wouldn’t keep saying you’re right, would you?!

Citation wanted, citation not owed.

lol no, if you want to prove something, you have to
y’know
prove it

That’s not how statistics work. You can’t claim to have a majority of a small subset as a basis to claim that you have any relevance to a larger set, unless the subset is representative of the whole, which this thread is not. You could have a hundred people backing your side in this thread and I could have none, and it would still not mean anything whatsoever in the grander scheme of things, because for all we know those are the only hundred people out of the hundreds of thousands playing the game that agree with you. You should know that already, but at least you do now. Go forth and sin against math no more.

it’s pretty basic math
i have one thing that is of dubious value
you have nothing
it doesn’t matter if my evidence is 1% truthful
you still have nothing

You’ve proposed alternatives that would be worse. They would either have a worse overall outcome, or would take more time and effort to implement than they would be worth, or both.

i’m bored
you can keep saying its better that doesnt make it better

Exactly. Playes looked at the stage one and though “oh, that looks fun, I’ll pursue bits of that as I play!” And then they looked up on wikis and reddit what the final costs involved would be and said “I would never want to spend that much on this, no point bothering with the other stuff.”

or maybe they just DO IT

JUST DO IT
DONT LET YOUR DREAMS BE DREAMS

YOURE GONNA WORK HARD AT IT AND YOURE GONNA WIN COS YOURE NOT GONNA GIVE UP

but nah srs this is nothing beyond anecdotal evidence. i could just as easily say that they do p1 and then chill on p2 like i do

If you could just DO the parts of Legendary Crafting that involve DOING, and the gold costs involved were completely negligible, you’d have a lot more players happily pursuing various legendaries, but they ruined it.

you CAN just DO half the parts THAT NEED DOING
JUST DO IT

Yes, but I never said “I want whatever content you’ve got that is scrub puggable,” that is the role you guys keep insisting I accept. I’ve been aware from the start what content is available, I’ve been playing this game since beta. When I say “I want scrub puggable raids,” the last word in that is not redundant, it’s the object of the sentence. I want scrub puggable RAIDS, as in “not open world, not dungeons, not fractals, not whatever not raids you want to suggest I be doing instead.” If you want to help me achieve that, then climb on board the train. If you don’t, that’s fine too, but stop suggesting alternative activities while knowing full well that alternative activities are not what is being requested in this thread.

you don’t want scrub puggable raids though
you want scrub puggable this raids
if you wanted scrub puggable raids i’ve already said i’d be happy with that, just not these raids

Lol, no. That’s a raider issue, “it’s not challenging enough for me!” No, GW2 players do not care about that even a little. GW2 players aren’t looking for that.

More othering, Ohoni? More deciding that people who want a certain thing aren’t GW2 players? I’m completely serious, it’s incredibly insulting that you constantly do this. Calling people fools, trolls, telling people that their opinions don’t matter, telling people that they aren’t real GW2 players (twice on this page even!).

I know I post in a more jocular manner than you but that you are constantly going out of your way to declare that people who want things that you don’t want are “NOT REAL GW2 PLAYERS” is just disgusting.

So you got nothing. Ok. You had my curiosity on that one, but now you have my contempt.

Now I have your contempt. You’ve already called me a troll, a fool, someone who doesn’t actually play GW2- go on.

Again, if a raid team is so interested in sticking together that it becomes an issue when they can’t stick together later in the week, then that team would coordinate their schedules so that they could stick together.

They do. They organize their runs to happen at the start of the lockout so that people don’t get bored and go pug.

They’d probably be in all the same raid/dungeon runs anyways. If a player is not involved in such a team, however, and is just pugging, then his issue is being able to find random people who are willing to do the same content he wants to do, and that would be easier for raids with a weekly lockout, since there are less potential things to be locked out, than for dungeons with a weekly lockout, since there are more combinations of possible content that could have been locked out earlier in the week.

Simply, no. You haven’t thought this through and you don’t understand the points being made.

You are taking an abundance of content and trying to turn it into a scarcity of content by talking about ‘combinations of possible locked content’ when that doesn’t make any sense. The ‘combinations of locked content’ is based around the group size, not the dungeons. There are 5 combinations of locked content in a dungeon group. There are 10 combinations of locked content in a raid group.

There’s more wrong here but I cbf.

Yeah, but again, “but they still come to your shop” is meaningless if they don’t have to actually buy anything. That’s the difference. If it’s a sub-based game, “so long as they keep playing” is a real thing, you do that, you’re fine. With a gem store game, “so long as they keep playing” is next to meaningless. They provide some small benefit, but not any direct profits. what actually matters is “so long as they keep feeling incentive to PAY.”

Think of it like you’re running a coffee shop that offers free wifi. even if you can keep every table packed all day, that’s still a failing business unless those people are also buying food. If you can’t engender enough positive engagement to get them to want to buy your actual products, then it doesn’t matter whether they’re in the store or out of it.

The problems with getting customers to buy HOT is not based around the raids. Raids are probably a reason why people buy HOT.

People don’t want to buy HOT because it’s producing negative reviews because of other places. Legendary weapon development being dropped, not many maps.

This one, Marvel Heroes, and Marvel Future Fight, and Kingdom Hearts Unchained X on the phone. The last MMO before this was Wildstar beta and the first month of ESO, before that was a few months of SWTOR.

Go play SWTOR. They have raids you’d like.
Not even kidding, did EV the other day in a pug.

I’m just not enjoying it as much as I once did, or could.

I want you to do some soulsearching here.

Is it because the expansion launched with little content?
Or is it because other people are getting things that you want for yourself?

If it’s the first, then, well, you know the dance.
If it’s the second… Well, then, you know the dance. Better pull your pants up and get that stuff.

True, but you were the one raising announced developmental shifts as evidence that “raiding is totally doing great!,” when in fact all it is is a lack of evidence that it’s not, and “lack of evidence” is the status quo when it comes to what ANet has in development so that shouldn’t be surprising.

nah dusk just sed it’s doin gr8, all gud

Your top 5 design mistakes in GW2?

No mistakes. Game perfect. Absolute pinnacle of game design. Cannot be matched.w

Seriously though;

1. Overall design of boss fights. This game works well when there are a lot of units on the field. It breaks down when there are less units on the field. A lot of bossfights are you versus one dude. Defiant is an aspect of this failing.
2. Absolute PvE/PvP split. Don’t get me wrong, I think that mostly PvE/PvP split is good, but the game should have launched with more things that cross over. Like leveling up.
3. Facial customisation. I have the prettiest norn face but I have so much eyeshadow it’s ridiculous. I’m a murderhobo not a glam rock star what am I doing with this much makeup on
4. I think crafting kinda sucks. I mean we have the discovery window but it doesn’t really mean much, it’s just a fancy way of learning new patterns, and the discovery window is completely ignored when it comes to new pattern releases.
5. No underwear dying/customisation.

INCREDIBLY VAGUE BECAUSE I CAN’T ACTUALLY THINK OF ANYTHING.COM

My thoughts;

“champ train does not represent the core of the game”; this is true. The game isn’t quite about running around from waypoint to waypoint killing champions. While it’s a way to play the game, it’s not the only one, and a completely new player coming across that train will jump on it and start thinking… “Is this it?” That’s obviously not good. Secondly, there’s a lot of potential negative behavior surrounding these trains; I’ve called champ locations in mapchat and gotten sprayed with vitriol, and if a new player is subjected to that just for trying to help, that’s going to be a huge turnoff.

On the economic impact; there are several champ trains. QD is only one of them. I don’t believe it’s even the must lucrative of them; I’m fairly certain that Frostgorge beats it out. People can still champ train if they want to; they’ll just have to go to a different zone.

On “you can’t do this for xp anymore when levelling alts” yeah that’s true, you won’t get the exact same XP/hr. However, as I understand, the meat of the XP you got was from the events, not from the bosses themselves (except obviously spider). You can still run around, do these events, and get a healthy amount of XP from it- And you’re less dependent on having a zerg with you when you do it, because of the mob downgrade.

The only thing I disagree with is removing the champ centaur from the high-scaled Garrison Defense event, mostly because it’s really really hard to tag mobs with high numbers of players around. I think all events should be trading up from normal→veteran→elite→champion more readily.

They said that they increased BL key drops. There was not even one drop in 4,5 months. NOT EVEN ONE.

Changing the drop rate of bltc keys from 0.0001% to 0.0002% is still an increase!

Does (pve) level affect my loot?

Boxes which contain actual loot items (randomly generated armor and weapons) are generated based on the level of the opening character. For the Arah track, these are the 5/15/25/35 boxes, and all the boxes between.

Arah Weapon Chests, Arah Armor Box and Arah Token Box are not affected by character level, as they always produce specific items of your choice.

Quick unsolicited hint; it can be worthwhile to open your boxes on alts in the 50-65 range, because their salvage will be much more valuable than level 80 salvage.
