Long Bow Necro? Can It Work?

in Necromancer

Posted by: Sarrs.4831

Sarrs.4831

I would prefer shortbow because the models are nicer!

Really, I don’t have any problem with necromancers getting a weapon that’s used as an actual weapon. Arrows are basically tiny daggers on the ends of pieces of wood, anyway. A bow could fit very well with a ‘spirit’ aesthetic; Spirits are revered by the Norn, Norn use bows, therefore a “traditional” necromancer norn would use a bow. To shoot spooky ghosts at people. But yeah. A 900 or 1200 range power weapon would certainly not be unappreciated in my books; a 900 range shortbow with a set of skills that take inspiration from Ritualist skills and Spectral skills would be pretty cool.

On a Longbow, or any other weapon being a “minion oriented” weapon; for the most part, I don’t think that a build should be locked into a specific weapon, especially not a generalist build like MM. As MM, you can currently work more or less ‘effectively’ using any weapon, because pretty much all of your traits are dedicated towards boosting your minions- The only actual damage increaser that you can afford to get is Spiteful Talisman. I think that if one weapon were introduced that were intended to be the definitive MM weapon, MM would be worse off for it.

If a Necro weapon were built around supporting allies, and in solo play those allies just happened to be minions? I think that would be fine. But that’s a support weapon, not a minion weapon.

It was also stated later on this epilogue would take place in the Death End bar (forgot where) What did you expect?

Wrapping up of loose ends. I can think of at least five.
Mai Trin- Where is she?
Aetherblades- What happens to them?
Molten Alliance- What happens to them?
Toxic Alliance- What happens to them?
Caithe’s secret- What was it and how did Scarlet learn it? Did I miss it or is something actually going on? Come to think of it, since Scarlet’s dead, will the Aetherblade Path in TA change?

Making tiers in Raids like fractals?

Except that monetary statistics says otherwise. Raids ofc turned out to be great quality content by themselves, and 5-3% of constant raiders is probably more then they are expected, but for general game population that focusing on raids turned out to be disastrous.

Focusing on raids ‘turned out to be disastrous’
And the solution…
Is to make more raid content.

I’m not a scientist but you may need to go back to the drawing board. Just a thought.

Personally I think that looking at the cost of crafting is kind of a red herring. Yeah, it isn’t expensive to level the relevant crafting skill, but it doesn’t make a lick of sense at all to need to do that.

“Okay, so I have these goggles… And a mask… But how do I… How do I put them on at the same time? Gosh, maybe if I were better at stitching this would be way easier.”

And yeah, asking Zomorros to help you out doesn’t make a heck of a lot of sense either, but at least it’s the already established way to combine items.

Of course people are going to say that it gives an advantage to others. That’s how they excuse the fact that they aren’t that good. It’s much easier to blame their failures on ascended gear than on lack of skill.

Err.

Wild and crazy theory incoming: maybe people say that it gives people an advantage because it gives people an advantage. It’s right there in the tooltip, it has bigger numbers than Exotic gear. While second-guessing people’s motives is fun, I think you might be setting yourself up a little by second-guessing people’s motives when they’re using basic arithmetic.

At this point is anyone even surprised?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sarrs.4831

Sarrs.4831

Nope I’m saying that the reason companies exist is to make money. People seem to forget this. Now you’d say box sales cover everything. Well no. The game was in development for five years, during which time they paid hundreds of devs, office space, etc. The box sales usually covers the cost of the creation of the game. So where’s the profit.

Companies do not exist to produce a profit. Companies exist to produce a product, and the profits are there to keep the lights open. If you truly believe that a company, and every worker within it is there just to make money and not to provide a service, especially in a luxury industry like video games, then you really should withdraw your patronage of that company.

In a game with monthly fees the profit often comes from monthly fees. In a game without monthly fees, profit generally comes from the cash shop…and that’s not unreasonable.

Now, if Anet wasn’t working on the game at all, and they weren’t still paying programmers, coming out with new dungeon paths and new mini games and new content for free, maybe you’d be right. But considering they’re working on the game, they need to pay programmers and electricity bills and telephone bills and rent, and corporate taxes.

If they had a subscription for the first several months they’d have an influx of coin to pay staff that they don’t have. It’s not unreasonable to think they’d want to make money.

I’m pretty sure they didn’t list their company as a non-profit organization.

How stupid do you think I am? Yes, I am aware of the existence of money. I am aware that people need money to survive. I am aware that ANet needs money to keep the lights on. What’s wrong with you?

I’m saying that they already have plenty of mechanics in place to generate money, like character slots and hair stylist kits, which were already in the game, and that forcing people to buy hair stylist kits for new characters is overly ambitious of them and will cause more damage when it comes to their reputation with the community that it will generate cash. 95% of the people using these new hairstyles are already cap level, so you can bet your britches that they paid for those hair stylist kits- so what harm would it be to open the hairstyles up for fresh characters?

And I’m not even suggesting that they give it up for free to everyone! I’m suggesting they offer it as an account-wide unlock, and not for free. If they had it as an 800 gem unlock I would probably cough up the gems as soon as it went live. Chances are, with the current implementation, I will never use these hairstyles on any of my characters unless I manage to pull a hair stylist kit from a Black Lion Chest. Nobody wins there- I don’t get to play around with fancy new hairs, ANet doesn’t get my money.

[Poll] Rate Season 2 (so far)

in Living World

Posted by: Sarrs.4831

Sarrs.4831

Good:
The zone is visually appealing and has a cool mechanic (the sandstorm switchover)
The new story steps are, mechanically, very good
Using zephyrite crystals to ascend a vertical map is a cool gimmick
The characters seem a bit more ‘full’
The zone champions are interesting and threatening

Bad:
Using the JP/aspect mechanics is necessary to enter the zone/story content at all
Characters have too much dialogue (yes you’re hooked up marjory and kasmeer we get it) (yes braham you don’t like scarlet, go outside and let the adults talk)
I don’t really want to look at Scarlet’s finger paints; too much of the story stuff is required reading
The map feels somewhat small- possibly because of the vertical design

Ugly:
I am not sure how the Nomad’s gear will play out
Quicksand is an interesting gimmick but can be kind of annoying
Dust Mite blindspam augh

So I went with “pretty good”, or whatever the 4/5 option was. It’s a solid start, and if this is the low point of the content, then we’ve got good things ahead of us!

Stat Combos

Some stat combos with 4 stats distributed instead of 3
words

I had a thought here. The stat ratios for gear at the moment are something like 4/3/3; for every 4 of the primary stat, there are 3 of each secondary stat.

What if there were stat spreads which had 4 stats, all of which match the secondaries on a 3-stat piece of gear? So, say, an ascended quality chestpiece might look like:

+76 Power
+76 Condition Damage
+76 Precision
+76 Ferocity

Kind of a halfway point between Celestial and a standard set of gear.

The logic of "Defiance"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sarrs.4831

Sarrs.4831

im gonna kind rant aimlessly for a bit

okay so we have like
stacks
and we have things we need to interrupt

and sometimes in a coordinated group at the moment, you will use certain low-CD crowd control abilities like Head Shot to knock down Defiant stacks, so that you’re able to use another crowd control of some kind that you actually want to apply

the most obvious example i can think of is the dude who hides in barrels in Gendarran and you knock down his stacks and then use a knockback/fear/pull to get him out of his puddles so that he’s no longer immune

and that’s pretty cool; you have to break down those defiant stacks so that you can defeat the boss, adding a new demand (in the economic sense) to the fight. instead of just needing damage, you now need damage and enough CC effects to chew through those stacks of defiant

the problem comes in when we add scrubs to the pile and they ruin your perfect defiant churn by going “hi guys do you like fear i am going to ruin your strat by fearing the boss and reapplying those defiant stacks!” and that super sucks

so yeah, defiant would be cool if the open world nature of the content didn’t screw it up

so imho make it so that, in world content, effects will only apply when they’re needed. if you’re fighting the dude in the barrels, and he has no defiant stacks, he’s still immune to controlling effects(and will not generate defiant stacks on CC attempts) BUT if he’s standing in a puddle he’s vulnerable to the appropriate effects. you still have to knock down defiant stacks after successfully pulling him out, and you still need to seal the deal with a good CC, but someone spamming CC will not screw you over completely.

i think control and interrupts are part of a healthy pve ecosphere

Suggestion- Raid Difficulty Settings [Merged]

Sarrs.4831

Of course there is, it would make me happy.

Feelings are boring. I don’t tell you about my feelings.

Bullkitten. In fact, I can use it more than most, since I’m fairly casual about stats.

I can use a home colonoscopy kit but that doesn’t mean I need one. Being able to use something or being able to use it more than someone else is not a justification for having or getting it.

Again, irrelevant to you, perhaps, not irrelevant to me. Feel free to use that in arguments about why you do not need Legendary armor, but it cannot be applied to arguments about why I don’t need it.

Yes they can, sorry.
You don’t do hard content so you don’t need optimal stats so you don’t need to be able to easily swap to optimal stats.
You don’t do WvW so you don’t need a broad set of stats to adjust to build trends.
You have no need for it. You have want for it, but you don’t need it.
If you need legendary armor to be happy you seem to be a bit beyond the pale.

Before having Legendary armor, I won’t be able to apply the Legendary Armor skins in the wardrobe. After acquiring it, I will be able to. This is the most important thing about Legendary armor.

Yes but as I said skins don’t matter. Nobody needs skins.

If you can suggest an alternative way to unlock the skin in the wardrobe without acquiring the Legendary armor, then go ahead, but otherwise you’re not being helpful.

You could possibly sneak into ANet headquarters and manually grant yourself the legendary skins.

You’ve had 40 pages of help, both in personal suggestions and in suggestions on your ‘easy mode’. You’re not here to be taught, so why would I be trying to teach you.

No, as I said, it should be both. If it’s JUST a training ground, then it will have failed. If it’s JUST a goofy little side option that does not train people in how to do hard mode, then it will be less than it could be. It should be both things.

Why should it train people to do hard modes when you are the target audience and you will never do hard modes?

Sarrs.4831

It’s not a matter of people quitting over it, it’s a matter of whether they are fully satisfying their customers. If they can launch a relatively simple change that would satisfy a lot of players, then they should do so.

So basically instead of using this objective metric (because you know as well as anyone else does that raids are helping with player retention) you want to move to this subjective metric that ultimately doesn’t really have much bearing on anything.

Completely wild presumption; NPCs associated with that story mission will go “oh hey commander how are you” and then you’ll go “hey man can I please have that trait book? i don’t have it” and they’ll go “this won’t end well.”

Alternatively, characters which already exist will have all of the traits they have access to unlocked. Except for the new ones of course but it’s doubtful that they’ll require you to do personal story missions just for the sake of avoiding this problem.

Sorry man but this is just funny.

If you’re wearing Nomad’s gear you do not understand how the game works. You aren’t skilled by any stretch of the imagination.

If you were a zerker player you would need to learn how to dodge, learn how to manipulate projectiles, learn how to manage your boons and weapon skills to survive. As Nomad’s you just kinda stand there and you probably do less damage than a Rifle Turret.

The Vampiric Problem in a Nut Shell.

in Necromancer

Posted by: Sarrs.4831

Sarrs.4831

This… Isn’t really the problem in a nutshell. It’s a nutshell, the bowl around the nutshell, the table the bowl’s on, the room the table’s in and the house the room’s in.

If it was actually in a nutshell, it would be “Vampiric cannot provide strong returns because it procs off literally everything you do”.

Personally? I don’t see that as a problem. Maybe a bit of normalisation so it isn’t so affected by your attack speed, but even that’s unnecessary because it makes weapon selection with Vampiric in mind Actually A Thing. It’s a minor trait; it’s not something that you’re supposed to base your entire build around.

If any change needs to happen to Vampiric, it needs to be given some higher scaling.

Do other changes need to happen to the Blood Magic line in general? Sure, it could use a little shifting about. Do we need more active draining abilities? That’d be pretty cool too, but they won’t happen until we get new weapons, utilities or traits. If you want a discussion on the Blood Magic line, say “yeah this blood magic line it’s pretty rubbish innit” in the subject line.

Thanks for the softcore, by the way.

Bull. A high rank plays for 10 hours and maxes their pips. A new player plays for 10 hours and doesn’t even get half way.

Veteran players should NOT earn more pips per hour simply because they played back when pips were not a thing. They should just be grateful they already meet the rank requirements to purchase any gear or items.

This kind of shortsighted favoritism isn’t going to encourage ANY new players to stay in the game mode.

There is nothing preventing you from reaching the pip rate of a veteran player than the amount of time that you invest in the mode.

God forbid the players who kept the game mode alive get some kind of reward for it. And it’s not even an exclusive reward- you can rank up as well.

in Profession Balance

Sarrs.4831

balancing 1vs1 is the key to balance multiple formats also.
Its way better than balancing around a silly concept like capture the point.

Okay I’ve been playing Hearthstone a bunch and I think this is mildly relevant.

Some decks give certain other decks a really hard time. This is just a fact. You have to deal with it when you’re laddering. But by that very same caveat, your deck kills certain other decks without a problem. You’ll end up with 50/50 wins, and that’s balanced.

I think that it’s really far fetched to expect any game, up to and including MMORPGs, to have meaningful balance on a 1v1 basis. It’s possible to try to perfectly balance a game for 1v1, but for a game of GW2’s size, it would be a project of unimaginably huge scope to balance- if it’s even possible. Being able to reframe the question sidesteps this entirely.

That’s not to say that 1v1 balance isn’t good. It sure is, and if it’s possible to whack a mole, it should be done, but placing perfect 1v1 balance as a realistic ultimate goal is counterproductive.

Also yeah Cleansing Ire should be grandmaster. Maybe swap its place with Spiked Armor.

No new weapons, weap+class combinations, skills, WvW maps, only a few sPvP maps and the last one was released something like four months ago.

Seriously, how many new things have been added to sPvP? 3 maps, a stat gem, a few models that already exist in the game, and the gem store armors and weapons? Nothing that changes the fundamental flow of the game, adds to possible build variety, gives new toys. It is, more or less, the exact same game as it was at release- That’s pretty boring, for a game that’s so proud of offering its fortnightly update schedule.

You really should open your threads with what the problem is, rather than what you’re trying to do so it ends up being like.

problem: signets is boring ey
solution: lets tie them into class mechanics
collateral damage: none cos my changes is sick, innit

Onto actual feedback:
Generally speaking, I don’t think this is a good idea.

Signets being deactivated when they’re on cooldown is meaningless when the skill they’re tied to is on cooldown as well. Right off the bat, Signet of Resolve- It doesn’t matter if it gets deactivated because your Resolve cooldown is longer than your Signet cooldown.

Secondarily, this system would let you double up on the effects of your traits. Consider a necromancer who flips Death Shroud to get boons; at the moment, he can get Retaliation, Fury and Stability if he’s specced fully in that direction. After the change, he’ll get this monster list of effects for pressing a single button:

Retaliation: 3s
Fury: 5s
Stability: 3s
Swiftness: 10s
8% Life Force
Pull 3 Conditions
8% Life Force on DS->Fear
(Minus one of these effects, because he only has 3 signet slots)

And when he leaves:
10s 2xMight
Drain HP on next attack
Cure a condition

All on a 7 second cooldown.

And I don’t even know what problem you’re trying to fix by making these changes. You’ve gone on in your previous threads about how everything should be counterable blah blah blah, when overhauling signets like this completely contradicts that idea by making the use of signets a very easy decision.

This would be nice. While with a lot of practice, you can intuitively ‘feel’ what the cooldowns are, this would take out the guesswork.

Everything ready by the first dungeon!

I think this is a very important point to make and one which I didn’t think of! Excellent example of how changes can have unforeseen negative consequences.

Furthermore it also looks pretty moronic when people defend it on that basis, we are talking a game mode that absolutely hemorrhaged players after HoT to the point you’ve had what are effectively server merges, and still the game (at least on EU) is far less active (comparing gold league), especially outside primeitime, even after those merges, so people standing their with their pants down saying ’look this is what the community wanted", just come across as ridiculous given the state WvW deteriorated to.

There’s something really moronic that’s also going on here; a lot of people are speaking for people who are perfectly capable of speaking for themselves.

If DBL returning were such an issue, they would speak about it, they would’ve voted on the polls. Emails were sent out detailing them.

But no, people are really happy to just make assertions and then, when contradicted by direct polling data, claim that the people polled “are not the real wvw population”.

You cheerleaders don’t quit do you? I see RIGHT through this BS.

It’s called ALT and DUO. I trust not one thing these pro-leaguers say or do.

If DUO is so good, why don’t you do it?
